Do some dumb, that's no observation.
See all team make a mead to run.
That's a learned fellow.
And here we are, DNR with you on a Friday.
We wish it was a football Friday.
We got all going on.
It's any St. Patrick's Day that I missed out on?
No, right?
Oh, no, I think today is just a day
to celebrate celebrate wearing green.
Celebrate green.
You know, it's not easy being green.
It's not easy while I'm a Jets fan.
I know, trust me.
Yeah, no, I know, you know, that sounds like
and we're not going to really launch off into here.
Sounds like the Jets, maybe somewhat fascinated
by Ty Simpson.
Maybe while you did T's, you did T's yesterday
that we'll talk about that today.
So there you go.
And there you have it.
So now we talked about that.
We just forgot that's why I'm wearing the green today.
Maybe I was paying off your T's for you.
You know what?
This is why you're the ultimate teammate
and I'm solely the Bozo.
No, maybe that's why.
That ball more than a little NFL
because the Jets are going to have a private workout
with one Ty Simpson.
We're going to do that tomorrow.
And here we are.
Did I pay off my T's?
Yeah, he did.
Right, you can't say I don't pay it off.
Yeah, it's a full day T's.
I love it.
Yeah, I couldn't sleep last night
because the Bozo commentary.
It bothered me.
It bothered you.
It bothered me.
It did, yeah.
So think about how I feel.
We meet with a prospective partner
starting up beautiful partnership
and he calls it all the athlete,
the gorgeous athlete and the Bozo.
I know sometimes they play the athlete and the Bozo.
Our show is getting very upset.
RJ, do you get the sense that maybe
that's what Dave was giving off?
Like he thought that this,
how could he actually ask a question like this?
Maybe this is part of like the Bozo routine that he does?
I think he has a lot of respect for Dave.
No.
And I think the question caught him.
So how would you know you're lying though?
Yeah, the question caught him so often.
You know, you know, you know he doesn't have a lot of respect
to me.
For me, he referred to me as the Bozo.
But I think he thinks to Rick's point,
you're playing the bit.
He's like this man who asked that question.
He just, he's, he's, he's in character.
That's what he believes.
I don't think the question was bad.
Because, because no fully functional person would be like,
hey, how hard is that thing?
How hard is that thing to claim?
No disrespect to him.
I think he's a Bozo.
Why are we doing this right now?
I bet there is, I was going to start the show saying,
there is nothing you could do today
that's going to put me in a bad mood.
Nothing.
I didn't care the mix lost.
What, why not?
I know Ray doesn't.
Ray doesn't think it's a big deal at all.
I, Ray, I asked him earlier,
and he just shrugged it right off.
They made me every excuse in the book.
It doesn't matter to me.
And you know exactly why it doesn't matter to me.
Because I got to listen to these two.
Yesterday, tell me how the Yankees are going to go 162 and 0.
They're all excited.
And then my team comes out against Paul Skins
and got anything less than ending.
No, two thirds of an inning.
Has he raised over 100?
That's what I'm talking about.
That's right.
Oh my God.
So, Peralta, you know, two run homers,
soft two run homer too.
Because when we hit that boy,
like, all right, there we go.
That's one out, leaves the park.
And immediately, my thought is,
oh my God, they're going to lose.
How are you going to score three runs against this guy?
Okay, but here's the thing though.
As excited as we were about Peralta,
the second Lyle hits that home run.
Remember what they said during the broadcast?
What happened to him last opening day?
He was on the mound for the whole torpedo bat thing.
Right.
Yeah, I was like, oh no, it was going to be one of those days.
Right.
Well, they had the same thought.
And then the home run, you're down to nothing.
You start to think, like, it couldn't have gotten off
to a worst start.
No, not against Paul Skins.
Not like that.
You get Paul Skins to run.
He's, if not the best pitcher in baseball,
the second or third best pitcher at all of baseball,
guys in animal, he was great in the world baseball class again.
Against, you know, great competition.
And you know what he's capable of.
And to go out there, and I know that a couple balls
were misplaced in centerfield.
I do.
Oh, still.
O'Neill Cruz is easy.
That's kind of butcherish out there in centerfield.
Throw some sunglasses on, bud.
Oh, he doesn't, he might not like sunglasses.
Well, I mean, I don't like watching you.
I don't like watching you lose balls in the sun.
Well, I don't like, you know, driving through the city
at four o'clock in the morning,
but sometimes you got to do things you don't like to do.
Right.
I like to be in, I like to be in bed right now.
I got to show up and I got to go to work.
Doesn't like, I mean, listen, if you're,
if you're hauling in baseballs across the outfield,
and it's like he doesn't like sunglasses,
okay, I find that to be odd, because it's very sunny.
But if he can make it, you can't do it, buddy.
You're misplaying everything.
I mean, he came in.
Apple was right over his head than the other one.
I mean, he went into the last second to put his glove
over his face.
We could actually see it.
Luckily, I mean, listen, good for us.
But hey, I mean, again, they ended up finally coming up
with a stat as to like, you know,
how bad this was actually for screens
because you've never seen anything like this before.
No, and it's like, wow.
I mean, could this go, could this have gone any better
for why it's essentially a new team, right?
Like, I mean, the nine position players,
there's five new ones, right?
I mean, you got guys you haven't seen, you haven't seen.
The right.
And to have it turned out the way that it turned out,
and then to top it off, kind of like the cherry
on top of it was, we're all excited about Carson Benj.
His first couple of bats, he looked overmatched.
I don't know if he's nervous or whatever it is.
He's a bit understandably so.
Completely, listen, completely.
He ends up hitting a home run.
I mean, I think, and again, you don't know,
I think you're going to fall in love with him.
He seems like the kind of kid
that's going to be really easy to root for.
Yeah, absolutely.
I mean, I watch some of his,
watch some of his games in the spring.
I was excited and he deserved.
Everyone's like, well, what are we waiting for?
And then it turns out we're waiting for it
because we're going to make it a fun story
and everyone to see the K.
I don't know why that turns you off so much.
Well, it doesn't turn, it doesn't turn you off.
I don't know why they're calling them into the clubhouse
or going out to the mound.
Well, no, because now we're doing the one-up thing.
Well, no, because now we're doing the one-up thing.
Now it's like, okay, I'm going to go,
I'm going to come up for a mound visit and tell you
and surprise you on the mound.
What's next?
I don't like these things.
Yeah, but now we're doing like,
let's find a better moment.
Next thing you know it, there's a hand on a skateboard
that's coming out to announce that you're...
No, I don't like that.
I don't know.
I want that Burj Kretschmer guy.
I don't want that.
I don't need any of that stuff.
But I like those when it's like,
they tell you that you made the team
or they tell you in some special way.
Or RJ Ray, are you guys anti-erpro
like that fun way of telling kids that they made the team?
I like it.
I don't mind it at all.
Right, see, Ray, you know what you are?
You're the Grinch.
Who is?
What?
You said Ray.
No, I'm at Rick.
I'm not the Grinch.
I'm not the Grinch.
I'm not the Grinch.
I'm not the Grinch.
No, I'm not the Grinch at all.
I think that we're all trying to figure out
what the hell is going on.
Why have they announced that Carson Benj is on the team yet?
Because they want to have the fun moment.
Because they wanted to have the fun moment.
Yeah.
Is that for his benefit?
Is it for their own social media benefit?
Well, which one?
I don't know, maybe both.
Probably both.
OK, so what's wrong with that, though?
There's nothing wrong with it.
I don't need you going out to the mound, though,
and doing it.
I think that's a great story.
Stop it, please.
I think you're in the minority.
That's fine.
I don't care.
OK, that doesn't bother me.
OK, I mean, that's a forever moment now.
When you tell your kid, hey, they called me and said,
you made the team.
Right.
Call someone into the office and telling them
and filming it is that's great.
Right?
It's a moment half of the rest of your life.
But now it's turn to, hey, how can we,
how can we one up this one?
Let's walk out to the mound and tell them.
I don't have a problem with it at all.
Well, I think it's an extra special moment.
I think I actually, when I saw that, it's contrived.
It's a fake moment.
I don't think so.
You're doing it because you want to try to one up with it.
I don't think so.
And when I saw it the other day with you,
I don't think so.
I was like, oh, this is really cool.
You don't think so.
You don't think that was the thought.
I didn't think so.
I didn't think so.
OK.
That was just in that, that just in the moment
was like, you know what you should do right here?
No, I'm not saying that you didn't have it on the mind.
But, but so what if it's planned?
It's a nice moment.
It's a cool moment.
It's a forever moment.
I'm not saying it wasn't scripted,
but why is it such a bad thing even if it was scripted like that?
I don't think it's a bad thing.
I mean, I, I'm not saying it's a bad thing.
It's great for the kid.
It's awesome.
OK, it's just, I mean, it's, I know why they're doing it.
We understand why they're doing it.
It's not because they're like super excited
to make this great moment.
Yeah, it's very self-serving.
I think it's, I think it's self-serving.
And I also think it's, it's to make the moment
special for the person.
I think it's, I think it's, it's some of that
with a lot more of, hey, let's, let's really make a moment
here.
You're not so cynical.
I've also been, I've also been in the business.
So you would have hated that.
No, I would have been, I would have been pumped
and I made the team.
Also, I mean, I don't need to be used as a prop.
Like, this is my, it's my moment.
Like, this is like, this is the biggest day of my life.
I don't need you to, to, to use it to prop up
how great you guys are.
Look at how awesome we are.
I don't, I don't think it's propping up how great we are.
It's, look at how special we made this.
It's exactly what it is.
I don't see it like that.
It's the same thing as all these parents
like that have their kids do stuff on video.
Oh, great.
My kid is, a great parent I am.
That's what it is, man.
I don't see it like that.
I don't know how you, I don't know how else you could see it.
I, Ray, do you see it like that?
It's a great moment, they don't need to,
they don't need to play, they don't need to,
there's no reason outside of search, like the self-serving
thing like, hey, look at how awesome we are is to,
to film me getting told I made the team.
Well, I think you make it more memorable.
It sounded like you were going to say something
else there for a second.
How about this, film it and give it to me.
No one else needs to see it.
It's my moment.
I get where Rick's coming from.
I just, here we go.
No, no, no, no, because I agree with you.
I like the moment.
You can't be stupid.
I like it.
I like the moment.
I like the moment and I think Rick does too,
but Rick clearly Rick feels that the whole thing is contrived
and it's all for show and it's not really for a club.
They don't care about you.
It's not actually for the players where it's for them,
because they don't care about you.
There'll be the first ones to cut you in the struggle.
You think you would get it with, with Volpy,
just all about Aaron Moon.
Yeah, but it was more private, you know, like filmed,
it was filmed, but like the actual like thing
was done in private.
Again, I don't mind it, but I like it.
I like it.
I like it.
I like it.
I like it.
I like it.
I like it.
I like it.
I like it.
I like it.
I like it.
I like it.
I like it.
I like it.
I like it.
I like it.
I like it.
I like it.
To be clear, I'm telling you, it doesn't bother me.
I like it.
You guys have also not been in those situations where you've been
called into the office and told the other side of this,
or told, hey, we love you so much and you're great,
and you made it and then turn around and set me down.
You know what this is?
Like your piece of garbage with you.
No, but this is the reality.
Like, then this is fun now.
It's awesome.
Hey, they must really love me until they don't,
they told his business now and they don't.
Like, say Quan Barkley realized, this is business.
They're all full of bleep.
I may have some good relationships,
but like when push comes to shove,
this whole relationship is transactional.
And the second I can't help them, they're done with me.
That's what bothers me about it.
All right, they partake in my moment
and then they'll be the first one.
They then they'll be the first ones
to give me the other side of that moment
whenever it suits them best.
That's business.
That's what it is though.
That's what it is because it's business.
Okay.
So don't make how this though.
Don't make this big thing where it's so it's all,
hey, we're so sensitive.
We love you.
This is great, huh?
And then because that's all what it is.
Let's make believe.
All right.
Well, I like it.
You're a little turned off by it.
Guys seem to be.
I'm not saying that I don't,
I don't feel one way.
Like I'm not turned off by it.
I just, I mean, you need to recognize why they're doing it.
They're doing this is, this is for their benefit.
This is to create traffic to their social media.
It's not because it's your moment.
It's because it gives them content to post.
Okay.
But that's what it's about.
I think it's cool.
I think it's nice.
I think it's a great moment for these players
that are finding out that that's the way they make the team.
Well, how else do you think they find out by like carrier pigeon?
This is how you find out.
This is not, this is not new.
You just get to see it now.
They, they typically don't go out to the mount until guy.
Well, that's because now it's a fun game.
How can we do it?
I don't know.
I like it.
Maybe we'll have to, there's someone jump out of the helicopter plane
and deliver the message.
All right.
Let's, let's talk about the mess.
Grrrr.
And, and when we talk about the mess, here's the thing that I know.
And again, it's one game.
You're crazy.
It's great.
It's awful.
It's brutal.
Whatever.
It's beautiful.
This lineup has the potential to be a real problem.
A real problem.
All right, there's more athleticism here.
The bot, you have Alvarez hitting ninth in this lineup.
And again, I know he had a good game yesterday.
You don't know that's going to hold every single night,
every single day.
But I'm just saying first glance, my initial reaction
with this team is this lineup has a chance to be really,
really special.
I don't disagree with you.
I think that the thing we focused on the most
and it may be part of it was the emotions involved in it,
was what you were losing with Pete.
Like the power, like the home runs
that you get to lose with Pete.
And then you look at some of, I mean,
what Palanco did in the combination of him and Bishet.
I mean, it's different.
It's definitely a different lineup.
It's going to make you work.
It's more of a bat the ball.
It forget, I mean, Alvarez batten nine.
That was semi and batten seventh.
That's amazing.
Right?
I mean, if it was semi and seventh, if Buster had what?
Did Buster have Carson Benj be in the MVP?
Rookie of the year, yeah.
You got that and then you have Alvarez if he stays healthy?
Right.
You have Alvarez.
79th.
I have a feeling.
And again, I know it's your initial like for eight inches.
I have a feeling people, if he stays healthy,
are going to really like Lewis Robert or Luis Robert.
Yeah.
I think they're going to like him very much.
Bishet, that at bat was unbelievable.
I know it ended in a strikeout,
but I mean, he just, you couldn't,
you couldn't get to him in that at bat.
He's going to make you work like you mentioned.
Palanco in the cleanup spot.
I don't think it's like your typical cleanup guy.
We're like, oh God, hey, everyone getting the room quickly.
Palanco's up.
But I just think he's a good, solid batter.
And you're not going to have that kind of start this year
from Soto.
He's going to start in a much different way.
You got Lindor was on base every time yesterday.
I just, my first reaction to that Metz game was,
this is going to be, this is going to be a good lineup.
What do you mean Soto?
It's not going to get off that kind of start.
Did you mean Soto when you said that?
Last year, he was awful.
Oh, last year, he was awful.
Yeah.
That's how you mean yes, I thought you meant the game yesterday.
No, no, no, last year, he got to get it off to the same kind
of start that he did last year, this year.
I don't think so.
Right.
I got to believe that that was locked in.
I mean, just new scenery for that.
Right.
So I'm not worried about that.
I, Lindor, you know, that's what you want for me to lead off guy
is just to be on base.
And he was on base.
And he was on base constantly yesterday.
A lot of traffic on the base pass.
So, you know, again, it's hard to sit here and analyze one
baseball game unless it has massive meaning.
But one game, one start, got to one of the best pictures
in baseball and met her want to know.
Oh, well, I mean, listen, it's not, it's one game of 162.
But I think that when you go into, and I don't care what the sport is,
when you go into, you know, the first game of the season,
and you watch the team throughout the spring or preseason
and have some questions.
And those, and those questions are a problem in the first game.
I think there's reason, I think you're well within you right
to be like, oh, I don't know if I love this.
Like if, and it wasn't, it wasn't pretty.
The throw over for the from Bichette to Polonko,
but Polonko came off, made the tag.
That was not pretty.
It wasn't great.
But he got the job done.
Like if he's booting the ball around a third
or Polonko's booting the ball around at first,
like things that you thought could be a problem.
If that game's close and Devon Williams comes in and blows a save.
Like then they'd be like, oh, like, I, hmm.
Yeah, this was my fear now.
It's, it's, you know, showing itself in game one.
I'll tell you what I did what of all the analysis
and lot of positivity and, and all that.
Polonko at first looks a little,
I mean, on the ground balls,
he was kind of booting those all over.
Now he made the plays, but it didn't look easy
and it didn't look seamless.
No, I don't think it did either.
But, and you said this yesterday, you have,
you have Brett Beatty who's taken a lot about,
he's done a lot of work at first,
done a lot of work in the L field
and then third basis is natural position.
Right, so if Polonko does struggle at first base,
I mean, just naturally you would have Polonko as a,
you know, D.H., and then you could have Beatty at first.
Who's better defensively?
I mean, Beatty's not a D.H.
Beatty, no, Beatty's a good fielder.
Right.
If he's not that good, you would,
you would want to find a way to get Beatty onto the field.
Right, I just think that it was, I mean, it's game one.
You brought Polonko in to be a first baseman, right?
But Shets, I think there's a better chance
that Beatty plays first in Polonko is your D.H.
And Shets, those are the third.
I, listen, after one, and it can, it's one game,
I don't think that would bother me.
It's one of the four works.
It never matters.
I don't care the, the way you get to the finish line,
just get to the finish line.
Well, no, but it's just a bit, it's,
it's not as easy as everyone makes it fit.
It's like, hey, just put the guy who's the worst,
like the best bat, but the worst fielder at first base.
It's not that easy.
You can hide guys a little bit.
You, you really can't hide guys now.
You put, I'll just put, put the guy
that can't catch the ball in right field.
Well, no, that's going to catch up to you.
That's why they can't play Jason Dominguez
in the major leagues, right?
Like, I'll just put, he's not a good fielder.
Stick it in first.
Well, but that's, but that's because Jason Dominguez
didn't hit well enough to deal with them.
Well, enough to, to make sense to play a guy
with a bad bat, right?
I mean, a bad glove.
Right, so I put, I mean, you have options, which is good.
I mean, Brett Beatty's a nice piece to have.
If Brett Beatty hits, and you have the ability
to move him around, it's great.
And they sent Tommy Fan before the game yesterday.
I don't know.
I saw that left.
You better watch out.
Fantasy football.
I know.
You ready?
We should get him into our league.
I don't want you to reach out.
You couldn't handle him in your league.
Why not?
I slapped him right in the face.
You didn't need to slap someone in the face
because there wasn't a payment?
Yeah.
Well, I'm very, yeah, on time with my payments.
Well, not everybody, not everybody,
the stationer who's worked at the station
is good with payments.
Right.
Well, he would play slap that when he slapped me.
Oh, maybe you do is forget them.
We said we send him as a collector.
Maybe you hire him for your pool.
Yeah.
That could be dangerous for people.
Yeah.
I, I, I, uh, uh, Shary sent me a list last night
of people that haven't paid.
Is it long?
Hey, this day and age.
Is it long?
Um, the, the list?
Yeah.
Um, yeah, 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 16,
people haven't paid.
But we're,
we're halfway through the switch 16.
Now what do we do?
Listen, I understand!
I understand I'll tell you what to the benefit of Tommy fam is I'm sure there's a lot of people
of those what is those 12 people you just mentioned 16 on 16 people mostly they got to be sports
fans right most of them yeah I don't know well let's just assume that the sports fans Tommy fam
rings your doorbell you open it up you're like we'll actually put him in his uniform too he's in
his match uniform yeah yeah oh crap that's Tommy fam and then what well well do you think you
send him to the house you open the door and he says excuse me you haven't paid he gives you
like the it's gonna or you open the door and he just whop yeah laps you whop this college basketball

cjj weather halt with a solar home run yesterday i did say that uh-huh nice call well it's one game
but yeah magonglot a nice day too for it but that's why i don't like doing these because i'm sick
in the head too i'm like oh good character shake a character sharing nice night yeah
you did eat pitch real well and then school was a little better but yeah
yeah that's it there's too much there's too much baseball left to be doing this every single night
well welcome to the world of uh competition yeah welcome to the world of Dave loves making picks
is what it is that's fine i'll play your games i don't know why you're so anti-picks i just don't
like them i'll play your games though okay all right listen you you i don't know where you want
a free breakfast yesterday uh well again i mean i don't know where that you decided you wanted to
make a bet about it you were so confident i still can't believe that he's that heavy
well we don't even know how actually like how heavy he actually is yeah he never responded with
the actual weight but he's like yeah i'm over over two hundred pounds yeah over two hundred
i mean rj similar similar height rj you got to be what 30 pounds less than him um one
one fifty you're one fifty yeah you're 50 pounds less than Rosenberg i suppose wow
well are you guys actually it might be the same height i don't think they call it more
weirdly now though this again you might be like an inch taller than me maybe wow rj 2212
isn't Alejandro Kirk that was not nice rj's put together nice though beautiful rj's got a nice build on
him i think so i i think that especially i have to listen to uh because we we asked brownie what he
weighed yesterday and you were startled by his weight but then you look from the way rachel
carries it very well well because you look from the waist down like he's got a thinner looking
upper body but then once you hit the like once you hit waistline down you can see that we're
where the weights coming that's where it carries the weight well if you carry the weight you'd
prefer it to be in the bottom half right i did depends yeah i mean rather than like your face or
you're all right but if you got i mean if if you're in shorts and you got a big giant
give me big giant cancels i mean you don't want that either i guess but i think that's less
less of an impediment than just having a huge stomach i you'd rather have fat legs in a fat
face he said the tough part about brown sugar yesterday is one of you had said that
he has childbearing hips i said that well that wasn't me and Anthony walked around the corner
because he heard it and i don't even know if you guys know this Anthony said because this is
something michael kayo he says to him at least it didn't tell you your melted candle
so he was just taking it from all angles yesterday wow poor bag he's the great
who's been called the melted candle brown sugar by michael oh boy many times that's not nice
so he just poor guy just sitting in a studio and that's what he he wasn't just sitting in a studio
he was out in the world he was out by the by the call from machine i don't think he was looking to be
you know shaking down on his way probably now it feels like there's don't don't give us the
giant choice of words mining his own business in a studio yeah he wanted to be in the mix rj
yeah well there there i mean he wants to be in the locker room it does make sense because they were
they were starting to unpack the food calendars yesterday oh that's why he was there oh people
start circling you know i'm glad you brought this up why do they always bring all the good stuff when
we're not there what's lunch for a morning show Dave okay and got and and god forbid they bring any
food in like the nine o'clock hour well what are you gonna eat no one's i mean what's at the point
trade i want to be invited to the party when when when do you think those people get to work Dave
okay right i'm not looking for you to all of a sudden play johnny let me practically look
at this thing it's very hurtful that every time they bring food they make sure it's not us
they're sponsoring the couch cast all right but we're not a show that like is going to indulge
during they during the show i mean we don't like we're not in that group of people of the second we
get to the office we feel like we need to eat breakfast it's quick i mean you have a couple eggs
i'll sprinkle an approach bar that's it i mean if i'm gonna bring food to anybody i mean a
bark eats full meals on the show like you'll have pork chops and and some mashed potatoes right
full meals or show up or show up just as a show is starting and then have like a three minute conversation
hey he's a he's a special treat um so last night the nicks yeah they here's what bothered me
and we've talked about this all year there was no sense of urgency they got beat up by and this
is an up and coming team i i like to see them a lot they have some really young solid talented
players you got crushed on the glass yeah and it just looked like to me i don't know how you feel
like the nicks were going through the motions for a lot of that game last night yeah i don't know
if it's necessarily going through the motions as it is is one of the again is this one of those
teams that just stylistically is not a great is not a great match up for the nicks it feels like
anytime we play a team that's young that's athletic that gets up and down the floor it's not great for
us now maybe that's part of it i mean one seven straight but this again i mean this starts the
the little run of games here after playing a bunch of teams that are under 500 that are actually
good teams and let's not again don't use what the Charlotte Hornets have done in the past to
to make you feel like oh hey it's the Charlotte Hornets they've won 13 to last 16 games
no they're one of the teams the NBA right now that's like that's and i was just telling array
like the the seven eight spots in that eastern conference those are not layups in the postseason
this year well no i mean that's if i mean that's if again look where i want to put themselves and
they get land as up to five now i mean there's a chance that the way Charlotte's playing they end
up in i mean they could be the six who knows well they're a real problem yeah they're a real problem
conk nipples a real problem he's going to i mean how old is he too he had one year of Duke he's
what 19 years old i think he's 20 years old yeah so he's 20 years old so he's a i mean millers
a real good player they have a lot of talent on that team cannibal is shooting almost 44% from three
he's he's he's absolutely terrific yeah the jarring number is the 24 rebounds i think i saw
that rebounded by 19 i saw that this morning that's the fewest rebounds in a game the the mix of
hadn't since 2013 really so so so of like a decade plus since they've had that fewer well that's
that's i mean you're grabbing six rebounds of quarters what the next did last night right
and you were out done by what night you were minus 19 on the glass and you can't say well well
you didn't have carl into the town's will you did well you didn't have Mitchell Robinson will you
did like there's no excuse you got humbled but i know what what what people are going to say
it well you know what let me know when it's the postseason so i can't be upset i can't be bothered
i can't be annoyed like i'm allowed to feel the way i feel right i mean you're allowed to feel the
way you feel again i just it feels like it feels like you're banging your head against the wall though
because until they show you i mean until you see this or a matchup like this that is ends up being
our downfall then you'll be justified well hopefully i don't see it hopefully this you know i see
in the regular season i hope to god they get to about three weeks from now flip the switch and
they get to the postseason and they take on you know and Atlanta Charlotte uh whoever and it's like oh
no no problem i i i have real reservations i don't think getting through this eastern conference
is gonna be nearly as easy as a lot of people well here's the problem for you okay if i mean in
not a problem from ray because ray you know said what he said he believes the next coming out of
the eastern gonna be in the NBA finals i think your problem becomes that the same conversations that
we're having right now and they're probably even i think there was even more room going on last
year we're having about the Celtics we're having about the Cavaliers and then we go into the series
against the Celtics and we win the series right with with this same foundation with the same
core players plus a deeper bench like in theory we're a better team this year i and get it
like it is Detroit a better team this year yeah i think Detroit's a better team and then i mean
part of the reason we were so confident going to this year is because we thought that the
Swiss as Alan would put it a gap year for the Celtics and that's not the case that's not the case
so and we want the two seed right like like that's something we've discussed like we really want
the two seed well you made it a lot harder after last night now and right now is it Oklahoma City
on Sunday right now the Celtics just beat Oklahoma City right they did but you don't you don't love
your chances to win that game and then I think after that you go to Houston so this idea that the
next you're going to find that that game against Boston is going to be a massive basketball game
i just think that the disconnect for you and i don't think i'm i'm at at your level but i'm
somewhere between you and Ray maybe a little bit closer to you is i don't understand the mindset
of having this unbelievable opportunity right and you haven't won anything right you weren't in the
NBA fine like you do you lost to you lost to indy last year you have this unbelievable opportunity
where indy's they're done they're out right how Burton blows as a kill these they've just they
they're done for the season you got Boston trying to figure things out with with Tatum
we all believe that tatum's going to figure it out they're going to be a real problem
but the east is is wide open right i mean every week it feels like or every game it feels like a
you know espn a little espn analytics or the the odds are keep changing every you know every day it
seems like so this is it's open the east is open this is a great opportunity and let's face it
these guys are smart enough to recognize this may be the only opportunity for this group
to get to the NBA finals because if they don't there's a real chance things change for them
i don't know how you could especially at this point of the season where you're not
like fully ratchet it up well you're not in the dungeons of the season right this is not the
baseline for this is not game 49 where it's all right let's see here we have 30 plus games to go
we know we're near no you're now at the finish line this is what i would think
this is when you want to be playing your best basketball and last night and i mean the gaming
against New Orleans the gaming against the nets i know they're winning a bulk of these games then
not playing great basketball and you could have the mindset like right and i'm not calling you
out Rayleigh the mindset of Ray is i don't i don't care right like just get me to the post season
and i believe they will answer the bell and that's fine but i see it differently and i don't
love what i'm seeing right now now you get to game one you destroy whoever you play you win that
series handily and you do that a couple more times and then i'll apologize i'll shut up i'll be
thrilled i just have reservations that's what i'm saying is that i am aware of how you know
it looks like they're going through the motions right now yeah i don't know if it's necessarily
going through the motions i know what you're saying just because you played a bunch bad teams and
they weren't impressive wins and now you hit this you know this little stretch where you're playing
some good teams okay all right now now let's we got i mean after to the after last night we have
nine games left yeah there's not a lot you're you're at the finish line so we want to be at our
very best and i really i really truly genuinely i want the two seed i don't know how you couldn't
want the two seed well did they play last night like they wanted the two seed again i don't know
if it's that or if it's because jalen brunson came out ready right i mean jalen brunson was good
to start like so i mean there was definitely like a hey right i think we all we were all paying
attention we all get the you know we all when you go into a locker and you have the you know
the the whatever you want to call it the clippings of all everything's going on in the NBA who's
winning what the record is what you know what charles done recently and they're all seeing the
same things that we're seeing like this team is playing really good basketball right now
this team is young this team is athletic they're going to go up and down they're going to shoot
threes they're going to get a shoot almost 44% from three like we got it we don't necessarily defend
the three well like hey let's be ready for this because we are getting to the end
and we haven't i mean and we're not we're not Oklahoma city no right that's not who we are and
we haven't done that yet well what have they done um i mean they made it to a conference finals
right which is which is great and what you're excited about and which you'll remember for a long
time coming back and and and winning that series against Boston down those 20 point deficits but
i i i need more i i need this to be a successful postseason run well forget you they they
need it to be well they need a desperate but but from for me from my own like fandom and my own
okay heading in the right direction i need this to be a really good postseason run
and then i got like right say what they're going to go to the NBA fine okay i hope you're right
i really do well someone's going to be right but i don't want to be right so now they put me in a
really weird position uh yeah but i mean i would i wouldn't want to do a show with you if you're
just gonna well i wouldn't do that brush things off like hey this doesn't bother me or this doesn't
make me nervous it does and you know what he's not bothers you too last night's game bothers you
it does bother me i mean being being down with it on 18 after three yes right that bothers me getting
out rebounded the way they got out rebounded bothers me but i mean in the grand scheme of things
outside of it being a loss and not helping our cause to get the two seed right it doesn't
it's not going to ultimately matter like we're not going to go into this you're you're right so
okay but let me ask you this then then why do we even talk about the next well no because i'm
with you and i think we should talk about the next but i think that people a lot of people now
since we're i mean nine games away from the playoffs starting like okay there's nothing that they're
going to do they go out and blow out Charlotte it's not going to change my opinion of what they're
going to do in the postseason we've seen a large enough sample size to know what their flaws are
and to know whether or not we like we truly feel if they're a championship team or not and i think
but part of the reason why you tend to be a little bit more critical is because i think deep down
in your heart you don't feel though i know you don't feel the way ray feels i don't and that's
what i mean but ray feels the opposite okay good i hope he's right i hope he's right too i just
in i think so so so magnetically are you more pulled in the ray direction or the day of direction
i'm more i'm more in your direction because i just think that there are the championship teams
have a certain mentality that i don't necessarily know if fix this next team has and that mentality
would start to show itself late in the season where you're really trying to make sure that you're
put yourself in the best spot right because the two sheet the two seed matters should should matter
to you because you have like i said you haven't you didn't win the championship last year you didn't
you know i mean like you didn't run through the playoffs so it's i think having you know having

i couldn't hear what he said but i'm just like like he believes it's it's a within a seven point
game which is good it's great i mean it's not going to matter if you don't win how close it is
no but at and he also likes u-con minus the one and a half against Michigan State
right but you know what people think that listen to this show what they talk college basketball
they want to know what Dave Rothenberg thinks about college basketball and you took Duke already
i think duke will win the game all right but you also had Houston in your final four right i'm not
perfect i know i know a lot but i i mean i'm wrong all the time well listen i mean it's it's
no it's no exact science obviously it's the fun of it and it used to be a lot more fun when you
would give us fun little commentary yeah next year maybe there's not a next year maybe our
justice you know what do you think the world's going to end by next year no but i think you put
it you left a real bad taste in our game absence makes the heart grow funder now so you don't
have it this year the way you like it next year boom it's back um tie simpson so the jets
brass mougie glenn rike muskray they all go to Tuscaloosa they have a big fancy dinner with
tie simpson last night the working amount of private workout today this this and there's
people this is a great smoke screen really there's no way this is a smoke screen there's clearly
interest in the jets and tie simpson yeah i think i mean just if you're a if you're a properly
properly run franchise until you do diligence right and you need a quarterback right you take
advantage of this opportunity i'd like to get to know the kid i want to see him work out for me
i mean this is it you could be like you could be shocked right outside of the tape you sit down
with them get to know him as a person what kind of leader he's going to be and be like you know what
we were you know we're hesitant at first but now we got a chance to to meet him know the person
and we feel more comfortable or it's like hey you know what this is just not the time for us to do it
but he's the second i mean he's the second rated quarterback right now depending on who you ask
but it sounds like when those are going one right you have those are going one right you got the second
overall pick and you got the 16th pick and you also got you know the first pick of the second
round and the 44th pick right and you need a quarterback you need to draft a quarterback now if
you have a conviction conviction with this kid you take him if you think he's going to be a big
time NFL quarterback you take him i understand your point of maybe we're not ready and maybe you're
not but you don't know what next year is going to bring if you believe he's the a future stud quarterback
in this league and that is your true belief then you take him now i don't think so i don't i don't
look at him and say that's going to be a great quarterback but they're deeper in the in the weeds
than i am and they know no more than me and they're gonna sit there going to talk with them
watch him make the throws and they'll get a better feel of what they think about him
right but what hurts the jets for me is just there's no track record of them actually know what
they're doing with this and also i why ever take a quarterback well they're going to take a quarterback
at some point i mean i again is this the year i don't know draft next year is supposed to be i
mean again i'm going off what you know NFL experts are telling you where if archmaning was in this
years draft he'd be the he'd be the first overall and what was this year's
draft supposed to be no I understand that but archmaning it wasn't like
archmaning had this unbelievable season this year either right the thought is
that archmaning is going to be a franchise like that right that's all
projection right he he was bad and then he was much better as the season went on
but it's all projection it's all speculation so you're speculating that he's
gonna turn into a great NFL quarterback and then you're also speculating that
you're gonna be able to get him right but I'm also I'm also speculating that
Dante Moore if he came out this year would have been the second quarterback
taken he'll also be available next year he would have right so I mean do we
do we decide we want to take Tyson's and now I also heard Mel yesterday lose
his mind because he thinks the door Sanders is a better quarterback that
Tyson say that so am I taking that with the 16th overall pick with a coach I
don't even know you meaning the jets are gonna have to come to that decision
right but moushe is also gonna have to come to the decision whether or not he
like is Aaron Glenn gonna be my coach him moving forward also like why do I
feel about that I think you have to factor that in like if you're moushe and
moushe and you look at Aaron Glenn and you said this guy didn't want this guy
getting his hands on a young quarterback now I think you trust Frank Reich but I
don't I don't want Aaron Glenn to ruin him so I'm gonna you know right but I
don't even I don't even know if it's I don't even think it's so I'm not saying
ruin him I'm saying like if there's the thought that this doesn't like that
Aaron Glenn isn't gonna do enough this year to prove to you that he's gonna be
your coach after this season am I gonna use one of these premium picks
on a quarterback when I'm gonna have to hire a new coach who may not like the
quarterback he may not so why would I why would I do it but if you fit but if
you're moushe and you and again I don't know and you look at sims you're like
stunned right but this is a great NFL quarterback you would be hard pressed
after only a half the kid start 15 games to like to have that much conviction I
think where it's like hey we're a team that won three games we led for 60
stick it was 66 offensive snaps the entire season jarring that this is the
place to put a kid that's only at 15 starts and he's gonna be great with a
coach that could potentially stink and an offensive coordinator who's who's
good but it's not like you know there were a bunch of teams that were desperate
to get him on their staff I understand your point but if you look at him and
you love him if you if you're moushe and you're Glenn and you love Glenn is still
the coach right if you if you didn't want Glenn involved in any decisions what
so ever you shouldn't have him as the coach but what is that okay that's fine
and you're right but what if that that doesn't make me feel better about it but
what's gonna ever make you feel better until I see the kid play and he's really
good that's it right so you're you're gonna have everything with the grand
assault well no or if you have a coach that has a history of working well with
quarterbacks that doesn't well what happens if they move on from this guy from
Aaron Glenn and they bring in another guy with no experience or another coach
you look at it's a real fault really it's a real fault then I mean that could
easily happen it happens every time they hire a coach they just did it they just
did it they do it every time okay so what what do you want me to tell you that I
have all this confidence that they're gonna make the right decision that them
falling in the falling in love with Thai Simpson makes me believe that I should
fall in love with Thai Simpson no I don't think you should I'm just saying my
point is if you love him you should take him and if you don't then you shouldn't
but I don't think this is a smokescreen that's my whole point I don't think you
have an entire organization go to Tuscaloosa in the hopes that someone's gonna
trade up to 16 to give you more ammunition later in the draft no I think that
if that happens because you're putting all this work and time at the Thai Simpson
and someone else likes him and wants to trade up like I mean the guy and you
don't want to take him that would be a good thing otherwise you need a
quarterback he's the second best quarterback in this draft of course you should
go work him out and get a chance to meet him right you you dot the eyes and
cross the T's thanks for listening to my D.P.H. Rowan
Rothenburg podcast looking for more access to the show why cuz you know why
follow us on Twitter Instagram and Facebook and D.R. on ESPN just a good
morning you're on ESPN New York morning gentleman I really need a hammer the
table on this I don't know listen I don't have as great a football mind as
you guys but I think sitting on the couch it's pretty clear the jets cannot
develop a quarterback that they will not they cannot do not try to draft the
quarterback definitely not at 16 if Thai Simpson's as good as everybody sees I
mean you their organizations that definitely use better metrics than the
jets if they see something they will take him before our our third pick so
there's no reason not less than ever even be considering it so this is more
of you have no faith whatsoever in the jets right no no it's not it's not
that listen the jets if you look at what they did in 2022 with the whole team
around Zach Wilson signing Aaron Rogers right if you do that with another
quarterback that comes do their contract comes do that isn't 42 years old that
plan works to a tee you've got all young guys you drafted the rookie of the
year for offense rookie of the year for defense the year before you drafted
well you had a good old or decent online you had you know good defense everything
was in place all you have to do is sign a good quarterback overpay for the
quarterback that you know is good we are not going to take young talent ever I
don't know why there's a single jet span in the entire universe that things
that we can draft somebody and develop him stand on or just want to
super well is asking me to say thank you just you cannot go through life as a
team and and have a game plan if we're never going to draft a quarterback if we
were number one pick I would say do not take Mendoza besides the fact that he
screams bust that kid in New Jersey would be so so ungodly bad it's not even
funny damn Darnell this is the last thing I was a he he was you know seeing ghosts
everybody knows what he was like I heard some jet span saying like oh we should
have kept him no he had no idea what's going on there's a quote from him he said
until I went to the 49ers I never felt like I actually got coach okay there's
a reason Shanahan does what he does okay good let take a take a quarterback like
Mac Jones all right overpay for him do something find one of these guys and
read he took right but you're also okay but you're also you're also trying to
pretend like us taking Mac Jones from what Kyle Shanahan is doing in San
Francisco is guaranteed to work I mean Sam Darnell went to a great situation in
Minnesota with Kevin O'Connell who's considered one of the best offensive
minds in the sport not to mention the fact that he's got talent all around him
has success then he goes to Seattle where he's got on the defensive side of the
ball like the equivalent to Sean McVeigh and oh by the way the guy who's not
the head coach of the Raiders I thought that the jets don't have that so just
the call just so just a guarantee that going overpay for like a Mac Jones is
gonna make us like at some point we're gonna have to figure it out I know I don't
trust it and you don't trust it but at some point that has to change I said
it's time to you cannot say I'm when we can't develop a quarterback I'm we're
never taking one you can't you can't do it if you don't want Simpson fine this
guy saying under no circumstance can we ever draft and develop a quarterback
right but I'm sure they're saying the same thing or we're saying the same thing
in Cincinnati now Cincinnati has had some good quarterbacks like they've
drafted some good quarterbacks and had success but it takes I mean it's gonna
take a guy that is like undeniably right that's gonna take a guy that is just
he's so good that he wins right spite of what the jets in Thai in Thai
Simpson's not that is my point I don't I don't even think he's gonna be very good
on where everyone's up I'm not a Thai Simpson fan okay so but that's you take
him right but I know you say that but even like I don't think you understand what
that sounds like the jets fans like you saying that if the jets love them they
should take them almost as a jets fan makes you feel like well if they love
them it means he's not gonna be good you know I'm saying I don't know how to
like counteract that your friends think about what the jets have done
no broken right but think about some of the decisions and I remember talking
about it at the time like you know you have probably the most important year in
Sam Donald's development and we're going into year two and what happens what he
Johnson takes off to go be the ambassador leaves his brother who's never run a
franchise in his entire life in charge and then his brother decides not to go
with the GM's recommendation for the coach and hire Mike McCarthy he decides he
wants to go with Adam Gase that's right and we also how that worked out and then
McCagman runs the whole draft all the free agency the war and they and they
gas him you allow a GM to run a full draft and then you fire him right after it's
a comedy of ours I'm just saying like you you can't have this mindset of it's
never worked so we're not gonna try anymore no but that's you that right but that's
why you almost want to get to a point where it becomes it almost impossible to
mess it up and having right having four picks in the top forty four this year
with a GM that you feel like knows what he's doing and now have three picks in
the in the first round of a again I don't know because it feels like we say
this every year but what's supposed to be an unbelievable quarterback draft right
could that be enough that even the jets couldn't screw it up where you do
become attractive enough to get one of these to get a coach that can figure it
out that and that's the thing why am I 65 or sooner I like Jackson Dart because
a harbour you need your john harbour is what you need and then I think you'd
feel very differently
thanks for listening to my dp atro and rathan berg podcast looking for more
access to the show why cuz you know why follow us on Twitter Instagram and
Facebook at dr on espn in an hour and ten minutes right now I'm gonna be on the
pickable courts of west jester all baby have you played this game that's
apparently sweeping the um the country now pedale have you heard of that I have
five heard of it I've never played television I have not played it yet does
does it look appealing to you it does yeah I'd like to try it as well yeah we
just had so we're my low practices they just put uh... three three or four
courts for pedale three or four for pedalia now that's like you can use the
back wall kind of yeah it's almost like it feels like it's got a mix of
racquetball it's like a racquetball tennis combination yeah I like it I like
the sound of that like I've watched like the pros play like you can also like
they've seen them they go outside like out the door and hit it it's wild
but they got the door it's crazy yeah how could you do that how could you
open a door it's an opening and they go well hit it back in all right sounds
good all right I don't think anybody loves plays the week as much as I do I
love it I mean Ray and I we discussed it during the commercial break and right
now we will hear Raymond's latest edition of plays of the week Raymond get
to organ again into on the other side on the plays I want you to guess and
specifically the mix that's right you're good you win a prize today the
laugh gets me every time you ask a question yes I have my hand up try to be
respectful why why we have plays of the week yeah beautiful oh I'm sorry is
the chair that you got what was the question going to be what is the chair
there on the right side if for is that for zipper crew to the chair I assume
well because it says zipper crew to next one but then we got DR and then we
just have a chair I don't know I didn't make the graphic the graphic you know I'm
saying yeah that's a good start seems interesting as we said they are brought to
you by zipper crew to the plays of the week reacting to pickleball they've
thought he was gonna get sick there was a moment I thought I was gonna vomit
actually and I said that to somebody after like how great would that have been
you could have gone viral you would have gone viral if you just vomit it on the
court of like that would have been embarrassing and horrible but listen showing
out every great great showing at the Rickleball madness and I wish the video had
stayed up but apparently it's not very clean but people are very impressed with
you guys some people are very impressed by Arche as I was there I saw man standing
quite frankly he was beautiful tanned handsome something out of a Greek mythology it was Arche
what you say about him doesn't do justice he is without a doubt the best looking man at that station
just a fiends a big fan Arche's face should be displayed in a museum it's a sin he's not a model
gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous is Arche
uh not so gorgeous is Dave's little setup in his room over there what exactly you see the size of
that room does that the little square of soundproofing do in the room you know I've always thought
that I was gonna be the one and you know what this is the same by the bell conversation
and we're all ignorant Mrs. We don't understand the soundproofing in that room if I was in here
without the soundproofing it would sound oh echoey and tinny tinny and awful and it's sound but may
not look great with you obnoxious people but it sounds phenomenal I mean they put only a little
bit to absorb I just sound I'd ask you to turn the camera around the chair I'll never get it back
to where exactly exactly yeah you will never get the shot back there's a lot going on congratulations
to St. John's they are playing Duke later today we are rooting for them great shot I don't not
I'm a for Duke oh sorry can you imagine if him and Randy Johnson were on the same team you got the big
unit Ann Bells yeah big bells at Dylan darling I'd a bar mitzvah Saturday night oh I'd have the
they they admonished me at the bar mitzvah oh no because you were watching Duke I had the Duke
game on my phone what it was tied it was 15 minutes ago okay and a gentleman came over and he's
like um excuse me what are you doing I was like what do you mean he's like you're you're watching
basket balls like right he's like I don't know that that's appropriate and I was like I don't know
that it's not listen this is the story of Dave Rothenberg way if you invite him to events we're
sporting events are going on you're not going to get his full attention just like you're not going
to get his full attention with the clock sometimes all right so here's what's happened I killed the
clock and now you're murdering a dead clock no no no we're at the reading north service clock is dead
does this clock have a real life and it passes and parishes doesn't really matter all that much
and sometimes when you break the clock you break your brain and you can't tease properly let's
take a break we'll come back on the other side and what we have planned you you will blow your mind
blows my mind is that we can't get a deal done without Dave Rothenberg big meetings this week
the place we're meeting with tomorrow's like without Dave there is no deal no no no yeah oh yes
sometimes you need to be incentivized we recognize that Dave is only incentivized by money
so we have no other choice well what are you incentivized by red crumbs what are you looking for
copies yeah that's right RG you know what he is what's that he's a company that's what he is
sometimes you take issue with questions to buster only another recovering from injury but like
you're gonna get to october and their arms and theory should be much fresher than if they go
through the entire season right and that's the blue front of the Dodgers right last first day yeah
yeah buster I mean I'm sorry for that question yeah Rick wanted you to do something with that
question I was trying to think the question put it back in your mouth it was if I sort of
grabbed the question and stuck it right back in your mouth another co-host would have urinated on
you not you though not you we're locked in on pigs baseball pigs we all have a lot of the same
ones but it's okay we already have our picks on we got that's great and we locked in in like two
minutes you know it's amazing for you guys you also lost last year very well okay I honestly I don't
like you right now I knew that she's not he's not Rick is well it looked like he was growing the
mustache now it seems like the beard is kind of coming back inside on the the mustache doesn't look
as prominent to me right now Rick but I'm putting on the gauntlet all right you're laying it down
with a mustache like this uh I got some things to say I've been trying to get fired here they won't do it
yeah well with that mustache maybe they will I don't know who knows oh you are pushing parents
of split and once having another baby I think that's probably harder than dads you know
s**t about you young celebrity Tom Brady leaving alone what that's what he's doing they're not
dating I mean why we can't tell the truth that's what he's doing we're getting in big trouble around
here uh there's emails floating around about how some of the things were staying some things that
may have been inappropriate oh really yeah I'm just pushing past it right there's already a long
wish of things we're in trouble for today the devil you're actually the devil you are the devil
Dave though you want Don and Peter to fight maybe they should fight how do you think that would
well like let's let's get some big like like 16 ounce boxing gloves and just let them go at it
one problem they may not be in the same weight class I think weight wise they're probably close
no yeah no you think Peter I think Peter's over 200 pounds no way yeah no no way yes no way let's
wait you right now Peter did confirm no way Peter wrote back what do you say I'm right that I haven't
looked lately because I'm fat but I'm confident I'm at least 200 pounds yes he's probably massively obese
I'm not kidding I thought he was a skinny man I didn't realize he was massively obese I think
that's a bit much Peter might be morbid loop I don't think they call it morbidly not this again
five eight to twelve is like Alejandro Kirk we'll wrap it up with the description of the meeting
this week he said I know sometimes they play the athlete and the bozo suppose it was getting very upset
extremely so you'll have a different bozo same bozo same Rick hey different RJ and Rick
all of us will be back here same Rick same bozo same RJ same Ray I love how we try to
quite clean up the he's massively obese till he's morbidly I changed it up because that's so much
better those are the plays of the week powered by zippercrooter when you're hiring never miss out on
