This is the Lockdown Podcast Network celebrating 10 years of your team every day. A wild week one. What could week two possibly have in store? Let's find out on the Big Ten Squad. You're talking ball with the Big Ten Squad. From USC to Ohio State, from Michigan to Oregon, from Nebraska to Washington, it's the local experts of the Lockdown Podcast Network, bringing you scoops, breakdowns, and the most comprehensive preview of the upcoming Big Ten weekend. No hurt feelings and thin skin allowed. Squad up, you're part of the Big Ten Squad. Happy Thursday, everybody. Welcome to this week's Lockdown Big Ten Squad. I'm your host, Spencer McLaughlin, neutral arbiter of all things college football. We have Jacob Goen's Lockdown Hoosiers, Isaiah Hoel, Lockdown Wolverines, Zach Gannerson-Yawksheimer, Lockdown UCLA who took down my Bears this weekend. Trent Condon, Lockdown Hawkeyes,

Roman Tomashov, Lockdown Huskies, and Ryan Harrings, Lockdown Badgers, who actually said he wanted to talk about football coming into this squad. I mean, it's a first thing. We have a couple of firsts. Ryan wants to talk about football. Roman isn't in the last position. I mean, all sorts of just wild and crazy things are happening, most notably Michigan has officially been declared the winner of the game on Saturday. Now, Goen's, you and I watched the game. Everybody here watched the game in the final sequence. We all know that's what didn't happen, and yet here we are. Yes, on paper, Michigan gets the win. My question will be this, does the college football playoff committee keep that in mind, come October and November? I'm sure that they will because they have proven that they cannot be given responsibility without holding somebody accountable for something, whether it was in their,

you know, in their favor or was there fault or not. But yeah, that is one of the most depressing endings. I've seen for any team in particular named Western Michigan. I mean, look, Michigan won the game. It is what it is. But to see a team win, celebrate, broadcasters call it and then get it taken away from them on a Hail Mary with not. I mean, yeah, that was one of the craziest, most depressing endings I've ever seen for a team like Western Michigan. I feel for my really do storm the field. Isaiah, after the upset of knocking off the the might, hey, that's the reigning Mac champion Western Michigan Broncos for those out there that don't know. So you beat a reigning conference champ. Michigan hasn't won a conference championships in 2023. So maybe it was cause for celebration. Isaiah, it was not at someone. I don't know how many of you are ever on the field. I am, right? Like I'm on the field for games. I'm cool. I just I have a reason that says yeah, I screw you.

It sucks to be on the field for a field rush. I always try to. Because it's like, you just keep in mind, I have thousands of dollars worth of equipment on me, all this kind of stuff. But like it just gets dangerous in a hurry for everybody. And it was stupid. Because why are you rushing the field for Western? I don't care how the game ended. What have you? I'll say two things here. Michigan number one did deserve to lose. Number two, as far as the on on field scenario, there's two parts to it, right? Like no one in the bowl of the stadium thought that the time had expired. Now NBC people, some people in the press box, I talked to they believed that it had no one on the field that believed time had expired. For the you know, Western was rushing the field. They were pushed back immediately by the the officiating crew. And at the end, it's like, okay, well, you have to defend that final play. Michigan still made that final play. And we can get into all the nitpicking. You see people saying Michigan cheated. I don't know how Michigan itself had anything to do with it.

It's gotten kind of just haven't told us. Yeah, exactly. You know, whole new coaching staff apparently just went into they contacted Conor, you know, and Conor's figure. What to do? Well, you know, they became men of Michigan on Saturday is probably what what some folks would say. Isn't that right? Zach, that's just that's just how Michigan's going to get labeled now, whether you think it's fair or not. I mean, it's not like they're riding on the stallions back this time, but you know, helping out with the officials. All I'm going to say is I was watching the real football game UCLA take down. Yeah, you were. Yeah. Was my broadcast also delayed a minute because we're watching the end of some beat down that I should have been watching the end of Michigan Western Michigan. Yeah, so I was a little disappointed. I missed that, but a lot of controversy. I'm just glad I watched a real end to a football game. Hmm. Trent, what did you think of the Michigan debacle? I'm already excited for this answer. Well, as somebody that is the elder statesman out of this group, I can tell you that I'm used to this somebody that's been watching Big Ten football for 46 years.

We're used to this 2005. I got absolutely robbed at home against the Wolverines on ridiculous bad calls where you stood it. It's Michigan. They always get the benefit of the doubt. Nobody is surprised. This is a way of played out. If it was their neighbors up and he's dancing. They want to got that second. If it would have been Northwestern, they wouldn't have got that second. Michigan, though, for whatever reason, always gets the benefit of the doubt. I got you. 2001 JT was short. Yeah, with Michigan always gets it always. Anybody get that reference? I'm drawn a blank 2001 with a lot of rock. 2001 Michigan state put in the clock after it seemed at the time it expired. And they. I'm sure my parents had that game on as they fed me a bottle at what they write. Listen, Trent and I get it. We're old. We're old. Yeah, where's Craig's team and when you need him? Wait, wait, hold on. Ryan's old Ryan. You were there for that, right? Really? You want to hear a funny old Ryan's old story? Yes. Every way. Yes.

I'll make this 10 seconds. I promise. So I told you guys was recently for the Notre Dame game Captain Morton reached out there. Like we want you to be our Wisconsin spokesman. And we did the interview and it was great. And they were like, yes, you're the person. How old are you? I said on 43 and they're like, you're too old. I said, wait a second. I did the interview. Yes, like me. I said, yeah, but that's before we thought you thought you were like 36. That is great. I got three years on your I and I am the spokesman for Iowa and Captain Morgan, but they didn't know my age. That is absolutely perfect. They're coming to you next week. Right? Let's go. Oh, yes. Don't disclose that information. Right, Craig? Don't tell people how old we are. It's very much that you mean. I'm sure I fell. I fell. I'm just sad. I jumped into the middle of the beginning of another Ryan. Herring's tail. I'm sure it was a classic. Yeah, Ryan, just know on this show, anytime you jump in and say, do you guys want to hear? We're all saying yes. I don't care what it is. It's always always going to be a yes. So the, oh, Roman. Yes.

I, I, oh, yeah. Hey, yeah, I'm here. Ordering the order. Got shut. You know what? Get, you know, I mean, have a better internet connection. Maybe I'll remember that you haven't had a chance to even know what's going on with that. On the controversy. You know what? I, I can see that you don't know things, but go ahead. Yeah, go ahead. Oh, you know, Spencer, one thing I do know is that one of the four field starvings. I've been a part of to, you know, piggyback on what I say was saying was 0.23 when Washington beat Oregon. I know you have no recollection of that either. But, you know, yeah, that's what I thought. Good. I hope to be more and since they've been outscored by 40 points. Good. That's not true because they beat him later that year. But this, no, the, the whole in that game was absolutely wild where I actually turned it off and I was ready to go watch cow UCLA. And then I get a text two minutes later to like, that was absolutely wild. I was like, wait, what happened and turned it back over and saw everyone rushing the field in my first thought was, man, I hope I say it got out of the way for all of that. But that was, that was one of the things where seeing the big 10 statement that looked like an 80s like mystery novel that came out that that thought was, I feel like that didn't necessarily help a lot of things either.

I agree because it didn't actually, you know, address the questions that everybody had. We're wondering how the clocks aren't synced and they say, here's our process. We sync the clocks. Like, okay, thanks. Did you want to tell us what we actually want to know or were you just going to keep trying to play Kate us in the meantime. Craig is Michigan's win legitimate, not legitimate. How do you see it? I think they should vacate it. I mean, Western Michigan won in 60 minutes and the whole thing was goofy. And of course, we don't storm the field memo to all big 10 teams. We don't storm the field for beating Western Michigan. I didn't like that. I didn't like how the fans were on their celebrating unaware what millions of us were watching in real time on TV with this clock, the buckle, clock gate, whatever you want to call it. And then the statement from the big 10 that you all just reference how they say they sync the clocks, but oh, we don't use that we got a double secret clock and the basement somewhere of the big 10 headquarters that we're going to pull out this one time and one time only. I don't like all of it. I feel bad. Obviously, I root for Michigan and all big 10 teams and it was just a bad look all the way around, but I put more of the blame on the big 10 here than I do Michigan.

Maybe we should just ponder the SEC route and say, you know what, we might just kick them out. Well, I just say we're done. We're done. Get them. Get them. Get them. Unless you and Notre Dame can go start their own conference because you know it's pretty good when you start conference. Quite frankly. I'm going to have that much bonus number. I'll come right. I'm going right now. Yeah, we're going to talk about the games coming up here in week two because there is some big opportunities in the big 10. That's next. You're in the lock down big 10 squad. Going. Hoosiers and bison baby it's meant to be we literally have Hoosier the bison tell me that that's not a match made in heaven. Come on. Who's who's who's who's who's the what's the mascot come on he's the one that drives the rally car you don't know this.

Come on. No, actually I didn't call it. I didn't call or whatever do get out of here. Hold on. Hold on. Hold on. Who's your who's your the bison is that yeah. Is that the is that Indiana's mascot. It's not a bit too. Yeah, he's the physical like in person mascot. It's the name is who's your yeah. Look it up. Okay. Yeah. They just brought in. I know the name was all around that like I was pretty cool. I saw that. Yeah. I'm ready for Roman to take over as the host of locked on college. Yeah. Indiana. Indiana I think is the biggest favorite of the weekend in college football which goes to show just how good. Oh my gosh. Nothing to do with Howard at all. They're a really good team. They're quarterback is not also their leading rusher and they haven't given up eight sacks in the first two games that they played Indiana. It's just that Alabama and M they won 31 24. They lost a Richmond 28 21. Yes. The spite is the spite is the spider. That is that is correct.

I'm saying man. We talk about Indiana all day if we want. Yeah. We could or we could focus on games that are actually interesting Ohio State and Texas this week. Number one against number four Texas a slight favorite according to our friends at Fandall by one and a half points going. You can pick the buck eyes if you'd like or you can talk about Indiana which one do you want to do. This is the big 10 squad after all. So I'm not allowed to pick Texas. I have to either talk Indiana or talk Ohio State. Well, that's kind of what we were going for. Yeah. I mean, look, if we're if we're going to be representing the best conference in college football, we might as well go full home or propaganda. I mean, did you guys know the SEC went 16 and 0 in week one of college football? They had some heavy hitting matchups in there. I mean, I think the max look pretty good from our perspective. This is a max looking max looking strong. No, go on Ohio State Texas. Who you got? Yeah, it's going to be an awesome game.

I mean, you're talking about probably I mean, one of the best quarterback receiver duo matchups that we're going to see all season long. Archman and Cam Coleman on one side, Julian, say and Jeremiah Smith on the other. I think Ohio State's the better team. I think they're more talented coaching wise. Look, Ryan Day has been there. Done that. Sarc is trying to be there and do that. So I'm going to pick Ohio State until Texas proves to me that they can truly get over the home beat a team like this. It is an Austin. That'll help them. But yeah, give me the buck eyes until proven otherwise. Craig Houdio like long horns or buck eyes. I think the buck eyes are going to blow them out. And by blow out, I mean, by a couple scores. I really do. I mean, first of all, maybe it's the ice cold tick. I'm not on the archmaning bandwagon. Everybody says he's the best thing ever. Highsman going to win it all. They said that last year. You know, for two years, he couldn't beat Quinn. You were out for a job. I'm like, show me first. I was a reason Julian saying was a finalist for the highsman and arch wasn't.

Sarc can't win the big game. He's come close. He can't do it. Ryan Day has already been there. Done that. It's time for the graphics masters now for extra Glue. I think this will be in wind. I kind of think you know whenennial state team. Their fourth stringers can't get on the field. It would start on most other teams in the country both that running back and wide receiver right now. I think Bryan Days locked in. I think the team's focus. And I hope they represent the Big10 Whole go down there on Austin and smoke those guys. bakedaro fans all. Live dude. You go the pride of The Mason blue. Or the pride of the big 10 conference that I know so much. Yes. I am going to take Texas in this game. Yes, I'm biased, but I just think that when I look back at last year, I understand it was first game for both Archmating and Julian Sain 14 to 7. I think Texas's defense shows up in this one. I don't have the lot of faith in Arch. He looks really good intermittently. And I'm just curious to see because we see like Julian Sain when he gets off of his spot. He becomes a completely different

quarterback. There seems to be a team in the Big 10 championship that showed that. I'm just thinking that Texas with being playing at home that they're going to be able to to be able to get a little bit of pressure on them, create a few mistakes. But I'm probably very wrong and probably be living the nightmare of watching Ohio State beat Texas. Trent, there will be an opportunity for the Hawkeyes to beat the Buck guys in just a few weeks. Will they have a loss when that game is played? They will. This is a game. I think is a coin flip. It's going to come down to the end. I don't trust either quarterback at this point. As Craig said, I think said I think both of them need to prove something in a moment like this. And we'll see who is going to step up here. I just this small advantage for home field, I guess is enough. I think it's going to be a great game down to the wire. But I got Texas pulling it out by a field goal. Roman who you got? Give me Ohio State. I just think that both of these teams certainly are as even as it's going to get town wise. But I just I can't bet on archbanding or

Steve Sarcusian. So give me a text because I think it'll be close though. Oh really? You're not going to you're going to ride with Steve Sarcusian there? No. I'm not. No. No. I'm not. I'm not. I'm not. Not thanking him for the ice. What's fun of time? I mean, you know, he build things back up. He established. He reestablished the floor. He did. He got you at Thompson. Yeah. Yeah. Exactly. He did. He did some things. By the way, Roman and Jacob, I feel a crack. I'll include you in this too since you're an Indiana guy. This matchup is called a non-conference game between power four schools. Yeah. So what's it's not too packed? Well, two times schedule. Excuse you. Right. Right. That's an elite group of six league. No question. When is a wind of the bad? Who is it? A power four school is elite. He should know after the boys. Um, as in either the big 12, the ACC, the big 10 or the SEC. And sometimes they get together before league play begins and they play, they play one another. Yeah. Yeah. Have you

got any of this before? I know it's not. Yes. Have you heard of Virginia? Have you heard of a national championship? Can you see that over there? Have you heard of a national championship? Michigan has. Ryan. That's it. Uh, Ryan, I'm going to get. I was got four. Come on. To talk about Wisconsin's first half against uh, Notre Dame. Are we extending Luke fickle yet? Yeah. Speaking of playing some real teams in conference, right? Wisconsin, you know, had a real team. And while Michigan was finding ways to add time on the clock, we were begging for the conference to take some time off. You know, take what? We were begging for the conference to take a couple. Yeah. Yeah. A couple of six. Very fine. Oh, I'll say it's like I think Texas wins. It's in Austin that it matters. You get big calls at home. We've learned this. Um, but I since it didn't really get to myself or Zach on the first round through here. I don't know who's hosting it. We didn't really get a chance to opine in on what you're talking about. You both talked about the Michigan thing. Zach deflected and you chimed it. You got

to talk before Roman. You asked me about my age. Like, then you took it all talks. I just want to see what he's talking about when he asks me things all the time too. Don't take it personally. I just want to say one thing. Field storms are amazing and they're great. And I don't care about the opponent. I care about moments in life because he only gets so many. If you went on a hill where you go storm the crowd. You go storm the field. You do it because it's fun. And the next time I'm going to be watching a storm feel I'm going to look for like the random guy with a bunch of equipment like swatting people away. I'm just going to like know that's I say in that moment. I will feel for him. I don't want him to be on safe, but like field storms are amazing. And you should do more amazing things in life. So I would say embrace it. Oh, yeah. I love you Ryan Herring. You're so awesome. I love you. Have a dare. Do you guys remember from last year the which McCut the Virginia field storming when they beat Florida state who was ranked after they went over Alabama was like the quickest cleanest field storm of all time and the players were still on the field.

It was not what are the ones where they like it's is it Vanderbilt that did the controlled field storming one time where they had them like single file going down the stairs and they like all I think it was Vandy because their stadium was under construction. I think that's a classic. That's a good one. I think that was it. All right, Zach, bring us home on the game of the Week in College football, Ohio State or Texas. Pretty sure the billboard top 100 number one song is Ella Langley's choosing Texas. That's simple. That was like a hey, we got a we're up against the clock on game day here. We got to get through these because kickoff is in two minutes. That was good. Yacht Simon just bringing it home. He really wants to watch the CX in Patriots plot and stuff. Definitely not my motivation here. But there's another game in the week. We'll Michigan get what many field they deserve a loss on their schedule. That's coming up next. week in college football Michigan hosting Oklahoma Isaiah you're going to kick us off on this one. Can the Wolverines bounce back? And by the way, is Tommy Car getting in the game because Kyle Wittingham isn't really feeling it with Bryce Underwood right now? I don't think you're going to see Tommy Car in this one. I mean, it's really do you want to throw another freshman to the wolves especially against a Brent Venables defense that might have been part of the turning point for Bryce even last year when he started getting happy feet that he didn't have in week one. I mean, obviously I can't pick Michigan to win this one. Could it go different if you're not turning the ball over three times? Absolutely. I think the Michigan's defense is going to at least keep them in it. We saw some smart things from Jay Hill this past week against Western Michigan. But offensively, I just don't know how Michigan gets much of anything unless suddenly the offensive line plays better. The running backs play better. Really Bryce Underwood is going to have to be a completely different guy

than what we've seen so far. So give me the Sooners on Saturday. Or suddenly there's a change at quarterback and Tommy Car is in there. You never know. Never know. Going like the Wolverines or are you going with the Sooners? I hate to be just like pick the easy way out, but God, Oklahoma, I think they're still underrated on the the national landscape and after Michigan's performance, you just can't pick them. You can't trust that. If they come out and prove us wrong, great, but yeah, I got Oklahoma winning. And sure the Michigan home crowd will keep keep the Wolverines in it. I just think Oklahoma is the much better team. Give me the Sooners and it could get ugly down the stretch. Craig OU or UM? Well, as a saying and and football that you see your greatest amount of improvement between week one and week two. That'll blow well for Michigan, but I just think there was just too much to clean up bad offensive line, bad quarterback. Running game wasn't working. They couldn't really stop anything on the ground. So take your pick. I you know, I did also

saw Kyle Winningham's comments about how this starting job is not underwoods indefinitely. I agree with Isaiah. You don't make that move here in this game. This could be the best defense that Oklahoma's ever had is what they're saying. So if Western Michigan was going to stop the Michigan offense, I hate to see what Oklahoma's defense will do. However, I will say I think Tommy Carr is on the table for next week against you, Tim. Hmm. Trent. Who you got? So I am a baffled. We're not talking about side hockey here, but hopefully we'll get to that at the end neutral arbiter. My betting mind though, and that's what I am. I am not only the representative for Captain Morgan in the state of Iowa. I'm also the true degenerate of the state of Iowa. And because of that, my betting mind says you got to take the Wolverines. It doesn't make any sense. Nobody's going to want to bet him this weekend. Give me the Wolverines and the points. Oh, and the points. What do you think they win the game outright? Give me the Wolverines and the points. Oh, Trent. Oh, Trent, you've been with Zinghamton. My eyes. Trent was some big 10 pride.

I will add Sihock to the end with our rapid fire picks. But Roman, does the big 10 get what would be, I mean, a huge quite frankly, with the way Michigan played last week, this would be a huge win for the big 10 because now Oklahoma should win the game. And if Michigan wins, everyone will look around and go, boy, you guys are just not not on the same level. You can't even be Michigan with a playoff team. Come on, man. As much as I want to be the conference guy and puff my chest and do that, I saw Isaiah's face when he said, or when Trent said that he was going to pick Michigan, I can't do it. Give me a call with this guy. Ryan, who do you like? You feeling affinity towards another school that wears red? I am not. I think he's closer. I think it's closer to people think though. I think it's closer for longer than people think. Weird things happening, college football. And there will be this massive overreaction to week one. I think it's closer people think like Trent, give me Oklahoma, but in a very tight, kind of close, weird, lovely, low scoring game. Yaksa, I'm her.

Who do you like? Pretty sure, Fendell has this game, Oklahoma minus five and a half. I'm going to take Michigan plus five and a half Oklahoma to win. The best game that gets played in the big 10 this week against the SEC might actually be Minnesota against Mississippi State. Illinois hosting Duke, also pretty good game. Obviously an ACC match up there. Then you have Sihock Iowa State and Iowa. So it's everybody fly around, rapid-fired to a rap to show and make your picks on those games. I'll take Minnesota, Illinois, Iowa, clean sweep in the big 10 for those games. Oh gosh. Do we have Craig? You're the big 10 guy, man. Can you just represent us all and pick these for us? Thanks. Well, first of all, yeah, we're going to all jump on Minnesota. They're going to represent the big 10 over the SEC this weekend. We'll just forget about the rest of those games. Camario Taylor will have 400 all-purpose yards against Minnesota. That's going to get ugly. The Sihock, let's go with Iowa Hawkeyes because the entire Iowa State team is playing at Beaver Stadium now. So there's nothing left.

And what was it? Illinois over Duke, let's go with the fighting line. Isaiah, who do you like? All big 10 and all of them in Iowa. This is not just because I'm, you know, I'm great-chaying myself to Trent now. We're using great-chating himself to me, but 40 points for the Hawkeyes last week. 33 in the first half. 500 yards of offense. Look out. 570, I actually get to 500. I think a receiver caught a touchdown. When was the, when, oh, that's a period of a bet that didn't happen. No, I did. It did. Yes, Tony Diaz, Alabama wanted him, but he's in Iowa City. Let's go. Look out. He's probably a tie-dent. He's hit. No, come on. He's a tie-dent. He's a tie-dent. He's got to be. He's got to be. He's a tie-dent. He's a tie-dent. He's a tie-dent. Why Oregon doesn't play Iowa this year? They already beat him in Iowa City. They already beat him last year. Oh, in the Big Ten Champions. Iowa is my dark horse contender in the Big Ten. So, huh? Yeah. Uh, you never know. Do you think it's going to be a quick, quick one on Syhawk? Iowa, two touchdown favorite, big favorite. This one. Kirk Farritz has lost three times.

I was state as a double digit favorite. So just be careful on that front. I was probably going to ugly it up here and sneak out of there with like a 23 to 9 win. You think Illinois or Minnesota go down, hosting a non-conference foes? This will be the only time I will ever cheer for Phil Flek. Get it done, PJ. He get it done. There it is. The nicest thing he's ever said about PJ Flek. Roman, rapid fire picks on the games. I'll take the Big Ten sweep. Big Ten sweep, Ryan. Yeah, Wisconsin bounces back against Western Illinois. The Leatherneck. Leatherneck's coming off a 41 to 10 loss to Illinois state. I think Wisconsin opens up at home and they pull out a nice victory here and a nice bounce back effort. And Minnesota, I'm never going to cheer for them. It is what it is. Alrighty. Yaksa, I'm going to take us home with these picks. By the way, don't forget everyone. Ruckers looks to bounce back against Boston College in the battle for who's the worst power for team in the country this year. That's on Friday night. Well, that's too many games to pick. You're talking about spits. All I'm going to say is Bob Chesney's home opener

is the UCLA head coach over under 47,000 fans. We'll see what you guys pick. Under you recap this. People say under I'm going over to UCLA. I'm actually going over. I'm going over on that one. You have insider information on that for an Yaksa. Nope. Okay, go in that defeats the purpose of being asked to make a pick. Like someone asked you, hey, make a pick on this game. Can someone get me illegal information? Before I make my decision, I really want to know. It helps. It helps. Hey, where's he can do it? It's very helpful. I mean, all right. Well, I say he can help you out with some illegal information. It's all on the local corner. He's probably he probably made it. Yeah, he's on it. Yeah, he's he's on it. All right, Jacob Cohen's locked on Hoosiers. Craig Scheman locked on Big Ten as they all locked on Wolverines. Trent Condon locked on Hawkeyes. Roman Tom and Schaf locked on Huskies. Ryan Herring's locked on Badgers and Zach Anderson. Hawke's hammer locked on UCLA. I'm Spencer McLaughlin. We appreciate everyone listening. We'll see you next time until then. Hope you have a wonderful rest of your day.
