1:00Sounded really cool when we recorded it three years ago. Now it's a little crazy. That's J.C.C.S of Lockdown Cougars talking all things BYU, Parker Ainsworth, and Lockdown Cougs talking to Houston. Cam Stewart, Lockdown Baylor, Philip Mulford covers the Sun Devils, J.T.W.ist, or so of Lockdown Youth's Christian Rau of Kansas State. We are missing Cody Stovall of Lockdown O. Oh God. Oh, no. No. He has Stovall indeed. He has a pay for bag over his head. If you hit some straws, we all get to keep our jobs. Stovall Cody, Cody, answer me. Because I brought it up a couple of times on my show. Answer me this if you can't. All right. If Tulsa played North Texas last year, the mean green would have won by 28 points. So how does this year's version of North Texas lose to Tulsa by 14 points when the expectations were through the roof? Please give me something. I genuinely think that our coaching staff overlooked this Tulsa team is much if not more so than even the players.

2:03I think you could see that whenever you had some of the rotational components come in, it wasn't based off of anything Tulsa was doing. It was based off of like it was a pre ordained script. And for whatever reason, it seemed like we never got off of that. And we we step kept to the same script in the third quarter when we were down by two touchdowns. And we just didn't have the availability or ability within the coaching staff to make adjustments. That was it. We came in with a very vanilla basic game plan. Our players thought that we were easily going to walk over Tulsa. And our coaches didn't have the ability to make any adjustments. And we just walked our way into a loss. I'm new to the whole big 12, but my new favorite tradition is three years in a row. It's happened now is that Cody hypes up the cowboys just for them to completely fall fat on their face. Hey, Doesn't that sound very familiar? Oh, okay. One year for you, tall. You're doing your one year one year last. As much crap as you want to give a coma state, I will say that we all got a bunch of comments.

3:04I'm sure on our various shows. Hey, make sure you give it to the coma's taken me to get it. And I had not. Why are they so mean to him? He's such a sweet soul. Yes, he's loud, but we need that. But I had no doubt in my mind that Cody would be here to take it all. There was no doubt in my mind. Cody be sitting right here. Yep. Take out the punches. He was the last one in the stream. He was the last one to show up tonight. I couldn't get my son's life in my own. I can't poke myself in the eye. So my apologies for running. Looks like Tally, man. I'm going to be a real. He's making my own questions. Where did the burritos go? Oh, I forgot about the burrito guy. He popped back up on social media the day. So, Yep, $20 burrito. He was ready to do it. I was just speaking up. You know, let's go through some of these. Look, I owed apology to Philip. I thought that for a guy who didn't believe in Cutter Bolly a week ago, my goodness. If you ranked the big 12 quarterbacks just based on week one again, just based on week one,

4:07Cutter Bolly was fantastic. And he played like what one drive into the 30 was incredible. He said he said he taught. He's second most touchdowns in a deep breath and again. I like second most school record. There was a seven guy back in 1984 in the first half. You know, he said he said a school record for the most yards from a quarterback in his first start in the first half. I was alluding to that. They ran a shortened fourth quarter, right? They took. Yes, I didn't know that was a rule. I thought that was a straight ass looking. I thought it was. It's been a roll for a while. Yeah. You can run short and fourth quarters and you can add seconds to clocks. You know, you know, you know, you're not even getting how winning and how this is supposed to go down. They put the time from the arrows on the state game into the Michigan clock. The nobody else gets to see except apparently. You got no. The only thing we don't do like soccer now is promotion relegation. That's right there. It's way. You know the best part about this fourth quarter thing.

5:09By the way, Kenny Delingham didn't know this was a rule. Like Morgan stays on coach, say a runner over to him. He's like, Hey, man, can we like only play 10 minutes? This is pretty rough. Wrap it up. Yeah, I don't like this. And he's like, yeah, I guess we can do that. Is that a rule? I can say. There is something in the NCAA rulebook that the two head coaches agree on it. You can't shorten it, but it does not happen very often. But in the circumstance that Morgan State found themselves in, I completely get it. Yeah, they were. Morgan. I. I'll just like I'll respect to him for coming out here. But Morgan State is not a good football program. And we outtell into them on every side of the way. The comments section is firing right now. I'm like, guys, thank you for like giving us a chance to have another scrimmage. But it was not particularly. It was fun to watch all along pancakes and dudes. But I like to say the word in the year because a lot of us got to exercise our demons against William and Mary and William did not show up this week. And that's the. Exercise the demons.

6:11It gives me even more, even more respect for what Baylor did. Their scrimmage game, their glorified scrimmage was against an SEC team. Baylor's defense looks really solid. I thought Baylor of the teams that lost, sorry Cody, plug your ears. Of the teams that lost, I had more positive takeaways than expected when it came to the Baylor players. They certainly looked better than teams that won. I will give them that. Yeah, with the hurtly we're not laughing at camp Stewart on this squad show. I was impressed by Spavidol. I'm not gonna lie. I was impressed by Spavidol. I really was. He had to get unique. I mean, he had to get unique with DJ Lagley being hurt. I was a client. Was a no. Clanerman. Sorry. Clan, that's. Take Clanerman and Clanerman and combine them. I know I've done that at least once before. Yeah, he was good. I thought Baylor defense was good. This was a different. Baylor look like a better 7 and 5 team than usual. I'm saying. I have seen I have seen bad Baylor teams. Okay. I have seen.

7:11You say this about me. I have seen bad Baylor teams. That did not look like a bad Baylor team. Cam, once through 16 at the end of the season, Baylor's defensive line will be the blank in the big 12. Dude, it's. It's going to be like right up there. Yeah, this defensive line is deep and good. I think it's like the second best of the big 12 and it's best because I don't know. I don't think that might not be an overreaction. Like it was it's legit so good, man. And it's deep like every one of the guys that I knew the name of like made a play. It was on real. Okay, it's like all six of them. So, Cam, can I ask you this? Was that the DJ lagway experience like in a nutshell that entire. Trey gloves answering this question, but I'll take nine plays, right? Yeah, probably. Yeah, you get nine healthy plays. You got two turnovers of the first two drives, nothing after that. I think the completion percentage would probably be better if he had two ankles. Probably be a little bit better than 50%. But I thought like the best throw I saw all weekend on that fourth down.

8:11Like that was an absolute dark, perfectly placed to the smallest guy on the field. So that's that's what he can give you. I want the world to know about Gavin Freeman. I mean, I didn't know about him. I'll be honest. I didn't know. Yeah. But before we before we move on to the next segment where we talk about some of the teams that maybe the West Virginia's the world that didn't that one, but did not meet the expectations. The Houstons could be included in this category. Cody, what is if any, the best case scenario for Oklahoma state at this point? Because we beat Oregon, man, that's the best case. What are you talking about? Yeah. Yeah. I mean, give Cody credit. Oregon did not look like an unstoppable juggernaut against Boise State. They are. They're a lot of Oklahoma state. Many of not look like an unstoppable juggernaut against Tulsa. I think I know.

9:11I think I know how you get done. No, Cody is there was a particular tutor account here. We've got a screenshot of that a blame someone for. Yeah. Yeah. Not putting Esmojo's. I don't know. I was ready to defend having them on my top five preseason of the big 12. I thought then from cook to cold. From from cook to hawkins. I should say the West Virginia's offense was humming and the defense pitched a shutout. But when we came back from the West Virginia's offense was humming. I thought the West Virginia's offense was a shutout. But when we came back from halftime, things changed. And it went from the highest of highs. I saw it on Twitter. The West Virginia fans were perplexed.

12:13How did the second half fall apart and get away from West Virginia so fast? You know what? Rich Rodriguez just completed his radio show at eight o'clock and he took blame for it. He said, look, I was fraud. And I just went off wanting my show over this. So he's not above criticism. Right. I said, look, if Rich Rodriguez does this again, I may not ever forgive him. Because he purposely only ran very few plays in the second half on purpose because he was frustrated with his his response. He said, I was frustrated. I didn't West Virginia kept running into eight nine man fronts on purpose. They ran at 80 to 20. They didn't want to get Virginia anything to look at. And because they were so vanilla, it let coastal get some rhythm and get into that game and almost take it from West Virginia. We had them outtounded at every spot on the field and Rich Rod almost lost his football game because of the way called plays. He went away from my caulkins in the air. He didn't even go there. I mean, one or two plays down the field all day.

13:14My caulkins is one of my biggest bright spots coming out of that game, broke like 13 tackles in that game. Camcook broke nine. And unfortunately, you know, it's a bad. It's the best coaching thing because it's the, you know, it's a bad win if you can ever have one and so coaches can teach off of that. And you can still have you have a one and no record. And I think that's where West Virginia feels like they are, but there are certainly things that have to improve West Virginia bandit its rush lanes in that game and let do Spaley who I think by the end of the year might be one of the best quarterbacks in the Sun belt. He was very impressed with this game. He earned a paycheck. Patrick, the home zest throws all over the field. I was really impressed with him for a guy at his stature. And Rich Rodd was very, very, went right up to him right for the game, you know, I want to apologize. Once we got Borba in here, he was the 10th person of our squad tonight, which is the most he's had in a long time. And officially we have more people in our squad than Houston had on Saturday as their football games and nicely done guys for participation.

14:18As a Baylor guy, I am not one to speak. That's a joke. Sorry Houston fans. It was a hundred ninety three degrees. I understand. I know that's what we the comments. People at that school in Austin passed out where they had taken the hospital. Yeah, they had like a mass casualty event in Austin. But generally multiple ambulances called anyway, I have I have been very nice to Houston all off season. I get one joke. I've paid up on one. Parker. I fully expected Houston to dominate this game. And it looked like going into the third quarter, we were headed in that direction. All right, they got their get back. They're going to coast the rest of the way. And they just didn't. They didn't open well. They didn't close well. Don't love that. I would say they coasted the rest of the way. Actually, I think the problem is that they didn't need to coast. The deal to me is organs. It was 26 to 7. And the next two drives organs. They had this scored Houston dropped picks in both of those drives. The second of which would have been a pick six. And in my end, I'm like, you know, first game catch that pick. It's 40 to 7 or 40 to 14. It's a whole different game, right?

15:18And like, I think those are things to clean up and the things that take on lock down cook this week was like. That just means you have to clean them up now, right? Like you can't say, oh, if only we clean those things up. Like we'd be fine. Like no, you know, I have to go do that. They didn't tackle well. And I actually was going to propose a group like did everyone's team feel they didn't tackle well because it's kind of a trend in cost for more right now. You don't you don't practice tackling the off season. Well, it's not far we tackled ourselves. Love like competition. Yeah, sir. And then the only thing I'll say too. And I don't mean to make Christian change hats a few times here. I I wonder if that's a six and 16. There you go, Christian. Or that's a six and six or seven and five organ state team with a pretty decent young quarterback right now. It was FCS fresh from the year last year. And I thought he was really impressive. If I'm being really honest, he sent this is a completely coaching like that was a good thing. I was like a leader is coaching the right direction for them, but they're not anywhere near there Houston should have beat them a lot better. I'll be honest there and text. Wait a second take their business next week to encore ballads. Cam is that better not be that.

16:19That's your bookie. He's at the door something about Houston and West Virginia. I don't can you get up. What's going on here? 10 bucks to win 600. So I'm not sure what his expression would be in this. But look this edition mid season first and foremost for those who are upset with it. Can you justify it? Oh yeah absolutely. It's way different than the yellow situation. I was very surprised with that response by the way. Oh yeah absolutely well. I mean look if this was a player that had actually been contracted on an NFL team like the others were. He never became an NFL player in a contract. He attended rookie mini camp as a tryout player. Caroline and ever signed him. Never placed him on the roster. He never he was employed under an NFL contract. That's what makes West Virginia different than Lane Kippen and LSU right.

21:26Because Descon right. Xavier Harris signed NFL contracts and participated in training camp as rock. And then the second training camp is rostered professionals. That's what makes this different. This kid literally was like it's almost like hey come have a combine. And our many camp and see if we're going to see if we want to have you or not. That's just way different. Houston's put in a couple of those two and I agree with Paul on this. I think another big difference is that these are kids at greater heights going 22 and 22. And didn't know they were going to have a 50 or they went like they directly declared whatever right. The big deal to me is like across college football. There's a ton of kids older than that playing. That just like either registered here or medical there or like there are kids in high school class of 20 and 21 and still in college. Houston full disclosure has a guy on the roster Brandon Mac who's like in his eighth year of college football. Because of all the medical records from before. I mean he's he was graduating college theoretically when these kids are graduating high school. So yeah, but what I'm concerned with.

22:27Where do we draw the line and I'm not going after Houston or West Virginia here, but it's okay. We don't want training camp players, but we will allow many camp players mean at what point like what is the defi the divider there where you say. Oh, it's way different training camp versus mini camp because even Thomas Castellanos with Texas tech is in the mini camp category. Who's a pro who's not I just want to guess some uniformity on we're all mad at this one thing. But we're not mad at the other thing. I want to make sure on the same page here. I think it's very simple. Your profile you get paid by an NFL team. Yeah, and these guys were not paid by an NFL team. I mean, like for this long as the the standard of amateurism has been a thing. It's you know, if you start making money on this. And you know, we're in a weird spot right now because you're getting paid in college to be not a professional. But again, the set up here is like if you're being paid if you're being paid by a professional organization to play football, that is not college. I guess you are. Yeah, they're having that's the collar Jackson collars situation right like he tried out for the jazz he like can you can you help is the are we talking the same thing.

23:28Collar and then West Virginia here. So with regards to it, Paul time out it's exactly the Jackson collar situation because he went through summer league. You actually never even signed what they call an exhibit 10 deal, which is supposed to tie you to your summer league team. Jackson ever even actually signed that was agreed to in principle. He played summer league under that essentially that deal, whatever you want to call it. And as such, he was eligible to come back now he obviously is still seeking permanent injunction status because there is an appeal on his class of injunctions coming up the end of this month. That could obviously throw his thing into all kinds of chaos. But this is yeah, if you want a basketball and football comparison, what MP is describing is the Jackson collar situation for BYU basketball. And one last one last point quick record drink because these are kids that likely would not have gone this route had the insurgent. Don't not done this so late in the process, right? They would have just went ahead and stayed in college, but they thought it their curve is over so they moved on. I don't like it.

24:28I thought you clearly respected, but I can tell you this after what we just pulled. I want to find Russell Kuhn and Des Bryant and Kindle Hunter and bring him back to the roster tomorrow. Hey, I don't like it. I hate it. What we just witnessed, give me every NFL player that used to wear a cowboy jersey and I will pretend to be okay with. I don't think the NFL or the NBA or any of these pro sports want to compete with college athletics to have them potentially see if they want to come back or not. So I feel like every single one of these professional sports should get in some kind of partnership or agreement with the NCAA and say in all of our contracts, I have wording saying that you legally agree to drop your amateur status. You are now a professional. If you sign a contract and then it's solved. It's over, but they're, but okay, then I'm saying you cannot play in America on a pro contract. But if you're 16 years old in Barcelona, yeah, go play two or three years of pro ball. Then come to the United States because we always let basketball players do this.

25:28Cam. I have a question for the room. Okay. Like what if what if you're out. What if it was really sick next year when a bunch of MLB players go back to college baseball because there's a lockout. Yeah, it would really it would really be sick though, right? Yeah, so I mean, you're an Alvarez. You're just an actor. You're just an ad. Savannah. Savannah. It's hard for us to come and hit bombs at Miller Park and Pro. I'm totally cool. You're an Alvarez already lives in Houston. We'll be okay. We will be okay. MLB is for thing, but but like realistically, this is a this is such a limited trunch of players that like, yeah, and a fell player should be playing college football. NBA players should be playing college basketball, but like this is specifically like a very limited amount of people that are eligible because the NCAA did a horrible job in determining the five on five and the five for five and the grandfather. I don't know why I know right.

26:30Isn't that insane because I never believe that the end. These guys did a tent of pro career. Like unfortunately, they weren't good enough and sometimes you have to accept that it's over. And I think that's the hard part. Like you could say it's not fair because they didn't know the rule, but there are so many people who didn't know that in 2021 that they were going to start paying people so they would have stayed. Next few couple of years, I made a few million bucks. So like you could do the what if game the whole time. I truly believe that if you pursued professional career, you should not be playing college sports right now. Cody accepted its ovaries got a bag on it. I tell you I tell you what honestly the reason that I have such a big issue with some of it is because we have seen. I think all of us have probably at some point in time seen schools manipulate scholarships and telecade congratulations. You're on scholarship and then two days later be like, Oh crap, we didn't count very good. So sorry. You actually don't have a scholarship. So that was already happening. Now you're going to be able to make room for guys that didn't go through spring and fall camp that didn't go through the battles. If you're looking for cohesion and camaraderie and continuity in your roster, I just don't know the adding players this this late is going to be great for the locker room.

27:35But you know, if it's somebody that previously came from the school, right that just wasn't here for spring and fall. Maybe it's a little bit different. I just hate that we all know that players have been screwed out of their scholarships in the last two years. And when these schools are bringing other people in, they're still a limit, right? They're you can only have certain number of players. Yes, there's a little bit of an allotment outside of that. But you're going to have a guy and maybe it's a second stringer that's busted his ass to get some playing time maybe on special teams. And now he's being told, Oh, sorry, you got to go back to third string. But hopefully you provide some scout team looks for us. I don't like that paper back to said asked on the spot. I am a brown back special. All right. At Bourbon. Give your gift, give some final thoughts on this. Yeah, yeah, more, but give some final thoughts on this as well as selling on Colorado. We got a couple of minutes left left here. Yeah. Yeah. So quickly, like Colorado has a guy as a question, son, who they took in from Mexico state. A juco transfer or he started his career at Fresno State and went to the juco, juco around all that. He never pursued a professional career at all. Like he didn't go to the exit. I didn't go to the U of whatever it may be.

28:40He was fully operating under the influence or the assumption, excuse me, that he was going to be able to play called triple, but hasn't got his injunction yet. I think if there's cases like that where these guys were always intent on playing in called triple, they should still be playing called triple, but the guys who attempted to pro career, they should unfortunately hang it up. Right. Texas didn't let there be I play and I don't think he's eligible and I don't think he will be eligible. And I think unfortunately it comes to an end for everyone. So that's life that's unfortunate. But back to Colorado. Yeah. I think they're on a way better trajectory. I did a show earlier this week and I said they're back and when I say they're back, I don't mean they're contending for any national championships, but I do think they're back on a path to where they're a respectable team that could be. Make some noise in the big 12 and I think that's where they should have been after 24 not a dumpster fire that had us all questioning if Deon Sanders really wanted to coach college football. If they don't treat the ball like it's a hot potato next game, they'll be okay. Yeah, I mean, really good defense. I think your defense is way more talented than people thought. I had you guys in my top eight before the year because I did I do deep dive on everything.

29:44I'm really big fan of your defensive line as well. I think it along with Baylor really both really good. Or I will say this. I think Dion nailed both these coordinator hires. Yeah, I think one of the biggest things that he'd heard was higher people who he trusted to do their jobs. Pat Shermer, Deon Sanders, I think had way too much influence over and Colorado sort of became a de facto air raid offense. And it was fine when you had an NFL quarterback throwing to four NFL receivers, but when you had subpar talent, it was like, okay, he kind of sucks. He's a fall guy and then defense coordinator. It was Dion when it really let Robert Livingston call his own defense. But now he sort of taken a back seat. Brendan Marion came on my show in the preseason and the offseason, excuse me, is like, yeah, I take I took this job because I'm running my offense. And he didn't say directly that he wasn't going to take advice or influence, but he doesn't leave a head coaching job to not run things. And so I think he's done a really nice job. I mean, Colorado's offense. I don't think they're passing attack was that impressive and they were still able to hang in. And when that game, but I do think that there's a couple plays where with the what if game comes into play here, it's like they could have won that game by 20 points.
