2:03Yes, Alan Bowman conversation. Wherever you look back at the last toe year and a half or so in conjunction with the Tulsa game, maybe we talked a little nonsensical at times about Alan Bowman. So I would like to retract the Alan Crawdaddy Bowman terminology that I definitely used to use a lot. Now, did he bail in the backfield? Yes. But the more you look at the offensive line, woes and still order, the more you realize, the Alan Bowman was Crawdaddy and himself backwards for a pretty logical reason. Now don't get it twisted. Even though the Tulsa game did not go right and we have to look back and realize that Alan Bowman was probably a lot better than some of us like myself gave him credit for Drew Messmaker still has all of the intangibles, all of the tools, all of the athletic abilities to turn in a masterful season. No matter what level putting up 4,400 yards is very hard to do. I mean, heck, it's hard to do on air at practice.

3:06So I still think that Drew Messmaker is a first round NFL level talent that just had a bad first game. But again, the more you look at it and the more you talk about last season with Oregon fans, the more you realize that some of us had disillusioned ourselves enough to believe that the next round of quarterbacks at Oklahoma State was going to be the best kept secret. Well, as we saw last year going one and 11, a large portion of our struggles were at the quarterback position. And whenever you do have a little bit of a rotating door of quarterbacks per se, it's going to be a little bit of a hindrance. When you have a major injury pop up in the first game of the season, it's going to be a little bit of a hindrance. You have to convert a former quarterback who've been playing wide receiver for a few years back to quarterback out of necessity. Yeah, definitely a bit of a hindrance. And all of that allows us to look back and remember that Alan Bowman is the dude who won

4:06the 20-23, he is the dude that did get us to the big 12 championship game against Texas. Were we outmatched in that ball game for sure? But the more I realize that these clips of Alan Bowman being synonymous with the last Bedlam W, they're never going to go away and nor should they. Before the Tulsa game, I think some of us, okay, I'll speak for myself, I think I thought that maybe perhaps he would just be remembered as the Bedlam winning quarterback and rightfully so. But maybe we should remember him as the quarterback who passed for over 11,000 yards at Texas Tech and Oklahoma State. He did have a brief stop in Michigan along the way, but the dude did a lot for Oklahoma State. His first year, just around 60% completion percentage, throws for almost 3500 yards, 15 TDs,

5:08and he put Oklahoma State into position to absolutely improve. The next year, obviously, it didn't go as swimmingly as any of us thought that it was going to, but while kind of splitting sometime at times with some other quarterbacks, he was still able to put up almost 2,500 yards and another 16 touchdowns. So it's kind of crazy that we can now look back and have all of these 20-23 memories and even to some degree now, 2024, but Alan Bowman, we got spools for a long time, brother man. We grew up getting to watch Zach Robinson and then Brandon Whedon and then you got to see Clint Schelf and J.W. Walsh and Mason Rudolph and Taylor Cornelius and Alan Bowman. He did perform very adequately, admirably, so much so that I gave him too much crap. And now we look back at all of it with a more bigger realization and understanding that

6:12the Alan Bowman is probably pretty darn good. And if you had Alan Bowman this previous season, we probably don't go one in 11, but after the year before, where we only win a few ball games, that was the worst experience we've had as Oklahoma State fans in almost two decades. So in our eyes at that time, Alan Bowman didn't look like he was going to be a Taylor Cornelius or Mason Rudolph or Brandon Whedon or Clint Schelf or Zach Robinson. But maybe the supporting cast became a little dicey. I mean, just on strivelling, he left for a reason and seemingly that reason probably was he knew with Alan Bowman getting his way out the door that the prospects for him getting himself into that first round NFL draft conversation were going to be pretty difficult with some

7:14of the times that were to come. So Alan Bowman is better than I think a lot of us gave him credit for. He's better than I absolutely gave him credit for because when you go from winning 7, 8, 10, 11, 8, 8, 7, 10, 9, 8, 10, 7, and then you go through a three win four win style of conversation. The blame typically does go in the quarterback and sometimes the idea that he was running for his life unnecessarily, the more you look back, it probably was necessary. It probably was a necessity. So my apologies, Mr Bowman, you are not only the Bedlam winning quarterback that got us to the big 12 championship game, the last Bedlam winning quarterback might we add.

8:16But you have also now allowed us to see that having a three to four win conversation is dramatically different than a one win conversation. And it's also a dramatically different conversation even now after losing the Tulsa two years in a row. And again, I am paying attention to the comments, especially recently. So congratulations to you guys because you were right. I did give Alan Bowman too much grief. We can all look back now and realize that Alan Bowman was significantly more of a polished crew quarterback than a lot of us gave him credit for it. But all I can ask Alan Bowman is to realize that we just we got so spoiled for so long that even having a three to four win conversation just never seemed remotely possible or plausible. But it happened and then it got worse. And then we lost the Tulsa twice. So just like the comments were saying, Alan Bowman, for whatever people want to say about

9:21he didn't ever lose the Tulsa. So there is that. And they all right. And you go back and look at the highlights from 2023 and it makes you understand and appreciate more and more and more that people like my lab face underestimated what we had quarterback at the time. And I think through to Messmaker is still a dude. He's a dog. He's about to be a problem for everybody in the country. All right, we're going to cruise through this one right here. A wise man once said, be careful what you wish for. Oh, money. Oh, probably. And that seems to be where Oklahoma State is currently sitting at the moment. My gun, the pissed off day and landing last year for having the audacity to bring up the fact that from a financial compensation perspective, there was going to be a major difference between Oklahoma State and Oregon. Now why that got Dan landing in his feather's all ruffled, who knows?

14:26But this year, it's almost the exact opposite conversation. Eric Morris was able to get what 12, 13 million more than my gun. He got this previous season and don't get me wrong. Like there is something to be said about that going to bank what's going to dinners and going to tournaments and going to golf and hitting the range and going to skeet shooting and shaking hands kissing babies, meeting all the donors. There is something to that that my gun, he didn't necessarily want to do a lot of at least seemingly towards the latter half of his tenure at Oklahoma State. And that is part of the gig, right? When you're trying to get money in this era, you've got to not necessarily make concessions, but you at least have to put on your sales breaches. And you have to go meet these people where they are to try to get them to help your university. Well, seemingly there were some donors that didn't like some of the things that were transpiring and they didn't like the idea of potentially possibly giving my gun to a bunch of money without all the shaking hands and kissing babies aspect.

15:30But they showed up for Eric Morris. They showed up for your mastermaker. And yes, there seems to be some stuff online on campus in regards to did we overpay our $7.5 million quarter back based off of one ball game? Yeah, wholeheartedly. But the beauty of that is I personally believe that Drew Mestemaker is the type of dude that if you were to come to him, I know it's not possible. But if you were to go to Drew Mestemaker and say, listen man, you're making almost $4 million this year. And that performance is not worth a whole heck of a lot in that $4 million category. So wouldn't it be fair to maybe not get paid for the Tulsa game? I feel like maybe I'm crazy. The Drew Mestemaker might be the type of kid that would say, you know what? You might be right. All right, just give me enough to pay my bills and have a little fun. But maybe I don't deserve all of it.

16:33Maybe Drew Mestemaker would legitimately feel that way and say that. He has been saying a lot of the right things since the loss to Tulsa. But this idea that I also wholeheartedly bought into that if we can go from $12 million to $24.25 million and then I L, it's sort of a lot of these things out. But as we did see last year, if you have $12, 13 ish million and you just so happen to spend the bulk of it on the wrong dudes who don't want to really buy into the cowboy culture and Oklahoma state and being in still order in the orange and black in that community. If you had some of those dudes, it doesn't matter how much they're getting paid, the love of the game aspect was always going to suffer at least to some degree. This year we got a bunch of dudes paid and we got a bunch of dudes from all over the country to come in. Of course, I harp on the fact that what is a 13.8% of this roster is North Texas players

17:36that came with Cochimau. But it's a hard sell after the Tulsa game. It's a hard sell to say, you know what? We went and got most Phillips from Mizzou. We went and got Vincent Holmes from Washington and Marquith Williams from Miami and then I White from Penn State and I say, it's from UCLA and Jerry Lawson from Louisville and Justin Boat from Illinois. Like we can have all of these fun tangible conversations about how amazing it was to go get all of this power for talent. And a decent number of them like Jacob Sexton even had a ton of snaps and a significant number of starts at big time programs. But they didn't play like it. At least not against Tulsa. Unfortunately, we played like some of the doubters and the haters that want to act like we've got 85 North Texas players. While that still may not be anywhere in the right hemisphere of accuracy, we did play

18:41like a mid tier G6 program against Tulsa. So all we did was strengthen the argument for those individuals that want to continuously run around saying, Oklahoma State is just a G6 program and a new uniform. So we got the money. When is it going to be able to be physically worth it? Because as we've talked about even in the preseason, when we were talking about winning eight games, baby, hey, still possibility, right? We're only one game into the season. But even when we were having those discussions and conversations, there was always a little bit of a concern in regards to whether all of this staff can come up to this level and be able to take this money and institute it properly and get everybody's buy in up enough for Oklahoma State to make a run in this upcoming season.

19:44No money doesn't mean everything miraculously does get better, but you have to have enough money to be competitive, right? So it's definitely a balancing act. I don't know about you guys, but I still do feel like Eric Morris is the guy that can get us back on track. We shall see time.
