if you think this brian haze has taken a lot of shots at the sabers over the last

ten years and some of them are deserve it okay

but if we wanted to kind of get involved in the playoff kind of hype and we

wanted to set up overdrive at the sabers first home playoff game

would they say go stuff that you guys were mean to us in the past

they would say come on in and we welcome you do you want front and center in

the atrium we're gonna have you actually it's funny because

one of our you know crew member and um... you know he's he's doing some work with

highlights and and production and all of that um... he texted me and he goes

tell the overdrive voice because he doesn't see you guys all the time

from but it basically said we stick together so that was people from back home like razors from

you know Ontario knows people from this hometown that were like we have your back so they were

trying to show a bad picture of you noodles i thought it was fantastic and they basically were

saying they have razors back but i'll tell you this to come down the buffalo robberay's got some

reinforcement i mean Logan Stanley and razor were you know to get her after the game yesterday

razor had to go on a box to be at you know regular height but they they developed a partnership

now so you may have to talk to Logan Stanley before you get the razor i saw i saw the interview and

i i mean when you look at it like razor is a big dude this Logan Stanley is a is a massive human being

he's huge he's like six what is he six seven six eight i don't know why that six six seven two

thirty and today we talked to him about his family and he said his brother actually played

um rugby with team Canada rugby seven and regular rugby as brother six five two fifty and he goes

you know even though i'm taller there was a point in my life where i stop picking on him because he

would beat the crap out of me so yeah so it's not just Logan Stanley i guess his brother

is a massive human being too oh man i'm already i love i kind of like the guy like if you if you

wanted to get like a prototypical number five in the league i don't know how you can go wrong with

this guy he is going to have certain situations not often for what i've seen the last couple years

where maybe foot speed of decision making but i think he plays tough he can he can jump on the play

the odd time and like like i said in the national hockey league with the salary cap i think he's a

prototypical five and i think he can help a lot i think he can help a lot and we're talking about

his time in winnipeg obviously at one goal one goal one goal one goal and then he's at nine this

year and he said well you know what like one time he broke his ankle then he came back the very

first game he had a high ankle sprain and the next year they had quite a bit of depth on the

fancy because i wasn't in the lineup consistently consistently now this year he's been given an

opportunity with the jets turned that into a move with the sabers and the weight of sabers were

dealing with their group of six defensemen the last few weeks it was never metsa and kessel ring

as a third pair on the ice together at the same time it was always okay we'll put dalline with

metsa we'll put power with kessel ring they were trying to sprinkle them in yesterday

Stanley and kessel ring played together the whole time it was not like oh let's give him

reinforcement Lindy ruff was like this is my third pair they played over you know 11 minutes of

five on five plus some special teams so they were about 14 15 minutes that's a good third pair a

big third pair right now Marty let me ask you this and it might be an easy answer because you might

defer to the gold tender but like other than taged Thompson like what is key for the sabers we

know they're going to make the playoffs now what is the key to success like is it secondary scoring

like a Josh Norris talk like what is the key for them to be the real deal come playoff time

oh the reason they are where they are right now is it there's not one answer to that oh dog but

you you look at their depth on for it right so if you want to go Benson Thompson talk and Norris

with Donan Oslin then Oslin you got this line of zucker McLeod and Quinn and you look at them

last night Quinn as a hat trick zucker as another goal they've been really really good and steady

so it doesn't have to be taged Thompson now he had an 11 game points three going so that's awesome

and Alex Stuck's got a point three going and that's awesome too but you can kind of go in with

your top top nine right your top three lines and at any given night like somebody can step up

and that's right and and on defense the other thing is look Rasmus Dahlene's a stud and I don't

know what Rasmus Dahlene says on the ice to get under the skin of so many opponents but what

Hagel did to him the other day what you know Austin Matthews in the outdoor game in Hamilton the

cross-check in the neck like Matthews is not a guy that gets rattled and Dahlene got him rattled

like I don't know what Dahlene does but he gets people rattled he really does Marty I might

answer my own question I think maybe one of the keys for the team to be real deal Holyfield

if own power can kind of be invested in like get angry and be ready as opposed to a guy that

takes two or three years of playoff hockey to get adjusted to that you know what I mean like if he's

all in and he's cross-checking guys and he's hitting guys and he's like excited to be a part of

the playoffs and maybe it's a difference maker because there's always difference makers in any

series and any playoff run if he can be that guy right away and understand what's coming ahead

because if he's not it might be the difference between winning or losing I'm not putting it all

on one guy but he could be the ultimate difference maker I don't know that I'll ever be that guy

like Chris Brawinger type defenseman but if you're going to to get a puck in the corner and you

just you know stiffen a shoulder into a guy and you come out of the corner with the puck

damn right damn right and he's done that this year he's done that this year and with bow

Byron those two have been really good offensively and transition and so I you know every

check mark that you needed to have this season with certain players they've all been checked

Matthias Samuelson like what a season so they've all been checked and then he mentioned gold ending

I think Alex Lyon is at a fantastic season he's so good with his his positioning his butterfly

he's got such a wide butterfly noodles like it's yeah it's almost envious like he goes

post to post with his his hips and knees and I'm like how does he do it and Luke and in as

so much raw athletic abilities they may be a team that will rotate in the playoffs they may go

Lyon game one Luke and in game two and and keep it going because it's work for them since the start

of December well we were talking about Rob Ray a few moments ago and there's this Twitter account

that plays all these old school clips from like the crazy days with Ray and Brad May and

Barnaby and the clip was going viral recently where Genoa Ojic ran Dominic Aschic and that

Barnaby just literally dropped his gloves and ran at Sean Burke and they were tilled

everywhere. The reason I bring that up is we were talking about the McKinnon play last night on

Ingram and whether there's a you know we haven't talked about the discussion of whether or not

there's a responsibility for the orlers to seek retribution Genoa Ojic and McKinnon are clearly

not the same player but you know the protection of goal tenders in the modern game

it's just it's one of those topics that it you know you don't talk about it every day until it pops

up and you have to you know and I'm curious where you guys stand on it Marty you can jump in

noodles you jump in next but I mean that was pretty vicious last night McKinnon's not a nasty player

but where do you where do you stand on the the evergreen topic of protecting goalies?

So I mean obviously I love the goalies and I want them protected but when I watch that play

live last night I come back after the Sabers game I turn on the TV this game is on him I go this

is excited you know I'm gonna watch it I didn't even think it was a penalty and now McKinnon walks

that fine line and he's reckless at times with the way that Alfase goes but I look at this you

want to give him a minor penalty for goal interference go ahead but the reason why Ingram got hurt and

the reason why the collision was so big is Darryl Nurse pushing just that little touch makes

you look at the the feet of McKinnon they went 12 inches to the right now the center mass it's

Ingram and I think there's a way you can protect the goalies number one call goalie interference

penalties don't just be like oh we'll we'll review it if it goes in or whatever they seem to always

take the approach of unless it's a goal we're not gonna talk about it so you want guys to not

go in the crease really nilly like this call penalties but last night I'm sorry but if Edmonton

wants retribution go to your defenseman and that that made the end it's a hard play for a nurse

he's trying to stop McKinnon but that happened right there yeah he was he was going harder than that

my my whole thing is yes there's contact with nurse but at some point the goalie has to be

protected I was fine with a two-minute penalty I was I was shocked that it was fine like I when I

I was watching it live and I kind of went and grabbed the drink and came back and I was like oh my god

he's getting the game now they took how long was that review was that it like that felt like a 10-minute

review hey it's like I don't know if you're watching it too it was so weird and and but you know the

injury I think factors in and oh you said in our our boy Hastings right is that to who wrote uh

yeah blades his name haste man yeah haste man like you know I think the ref looked at the

factor that ingram was injured on the play he was cut and looks like he probably needed some stitches

and it sounds like he's you know can cost on that so you know I think the injury factors in as well

like he he he was legitimately hurt like that's not a goal tender that's dropping and and and

faking it like that's a that was a massive collision and ultimately McKinnon skates like

an absolute horse and he's a beast and he's a strong man and and there was contact with nurse no

doubt about that but at some point you still have to protect the goal tender so I I was fine with

a two-minute penalty but I saw you know you can see you can make the argument on both sides Jared

Bedner is a you know steaming he was hot obviously they and and and rightfully so he's protecting his

player keep in mind that Nathan McKinnon's not the third line player you arguably the second best

player it's not a good point about the refs throwing him out like should you take that into consideration

right I know they're not supposed to guys there been any I haven't seen an update is there like

further like a meeting that there's nothing like that is there no I don't know I think it's the

game is chronic but it you know I think that you look at it I haven't seen an update on Ingram

other than what Noblok said last night saying that you know he's he was talking about Jari and

probably Jari having to play at least in in the in the next little bit so you know that was that

looked like a massive collision no it was I mean it was hurt like it was a big one he wasn't thinking

I get noodles yeah I get the injury but like was it on McKinnon and then maybe you see McKinnon

was going to go to the crease on his own before the nurse contact but I'm like okay so I took

as a day no chair a slap shot in the forehead one time and it cut me in the forehead through my

mask are we gonna like like give the chair a five minute penalty for having that heart of a shot

like it's like injuries are gonna happen as part of the game I I just think that if we're going to

give five minutes of it okay in two months will be in the playoffs McKinnon goes in game you know

seven whatever and makes that same play gets bumped by the defenseman now all of a sudden we say

oh we have this three of a five minute and given the game to the player I think that's dangerous

the game I thought was but again you look back at what I just think you've got to protect the

gold tender that's their crease like the he has the right to hold his ice McKinnon's whether he's

pushed or not he has to make an effort to get out of the way and he was moving so fast and so

violently and it was a split second thing there was no intention to hurt the gold tender but there

was intention to go hard to the blue paint and that's where I think you have to be responsible for

yourself and and give yourself a little leeway to find a way to get out of the way because

that's the goalie's ice that's the only thing that I would say that's not the goalie behind the

net playing it in in the players area he's in his blue paint and he should be able to be afforded

to make a save and not be run over by an opposing player and that's where I think the the gray area

became last night with the between the two and a five and a game and all of that well let me

let me stay in the paint let me let's let's shift the munchery all here because I want to ask you guys

about their situation I was on TSN 690 today and they're they're referencing 71 and 86 and they're

like it's driving into one to fowler now like fowlers up he's playing tonight Montenbo I think he's

in trouble I think it's going to be dovish and and fowler but Marty when you stand on that and you

think there's a chance that fowlers the man like game one of the playoffs do you think fowler could

be the starter for the habs and if so do you think he stays he stays there like how long would the

rope be for a young kid like that I think there's a chance fowler could be that guy and I think this

may be unfair to Jacob Dolvish's record has been unbelievable he's done everything you ask him to

there's a time to share they ask him do you think you're going to get sent down to let out he's

like you guys talking about him you've seen my record like all he does is win but his stats aren't

great his stats are great but he wins but his stats aren't great and he's still like a little

unorthodox sometimes you're like what are you doing in the in the crease right and fowler is a

stop the fowler um but you sound slow down a little bit he came in like that out of hell and then he

slowed down a little bit so I'm like okay I think they want to they give Montenbo a couple of games

post Olympic break they want to see where it was at it hasn't been good and it's just unfortunately

the guys confidence is completely like out the door so and and you're in tough spot if you're

Montréal like auto is coming back like they're seven points back up Montréal but they're only what

three points out four points out of a playoff spot they're there watching this is there huge

gift so and thrown Fowler in there tells me that they believe the kid could be a factor down

an east or or New York it's a little joint it's awesome across the street there's a place called

Maine and Hamlin it's very much the same so those two are the best for me downtown you got Gabriel's

gate was really good dofs is really good obviously the anchor bar you got to go and try it but

you guys could do a tour like you could go and try people will bring him to you for a test you know

we don't do dofs anymore the guy jammed Hayes up and screwed him over so we don't we don't we don't

don't do that anymore yeah I went in there looking for freebies and he looked at me like he'd never

seen me it was the twin brother that's why I know I think he does actually have a twin
