The mysterious pillars Boaz and Jachin stand at the entrance of King Solomon’s Temple, but their symbolism stretches far beyond biblical architecture. In Freemasonry, these twin pillars represent strength and establishment, duality, initiation, and the gateway to hidden knowledge.
In this episode we explore the deeper meaning behind the two pillars found in 1 Kings 7, how they became central symbols in Freemasonry, and how the imagery of twin pillars appears throughout ancient mystery traditions, Kabbalah, tarot symbolism, and modern culture.
2 Pillars Freemasonry Notes
Were these pillars merely architectural decoration—or were they symbolic gateways representing the balance between opposing cosmic forces?

What are the two pillars of free masonry?
So to get to what these two pillars represent, we need to look at the modern incarnation of free masonry
which started during the Age of Enlightenment.
That was a period in the history of Europe and Western civilization,
where an intellectual and cultural movement flourished and has started in the 16th century
and bled all the way into the early 18th century.
Now this was characterized by an emphasis on several things.
Reasoning, empirical evidence, and a scientific method.
And it also promoted ideas of individual liberty, religious tolerance, progressiveness, natural rights.
And I have been going into these ideas in depth in my series, Rosicrucian American Order,
which free masonry is blended in with all of that.
And several characters that pop up during this time, or Johannes Kepler, Francis Bacon,
which I've gone into detail with, Isaac Newton, Thomas Hobbes, John Locke,
and many others that were a part of all these different secret societies,
and many of them were free masons as well.
Now it was during this Age of Enlightenment that several symbols surface,
specifically within the second section of the fellow craft degree,
and none were more important than the pillars of Boaz and Joaquin.
So I want to look at first a biblical analysis of where Boaz and Joaquin come from,
because this comes from a biblical place.
They were two pillars within the Temple of Jerusalem that King Solomon had built.
Now we're going to start with first King 7, 13 through 22.
Now King Solomon sent to bring Hurum from Tyre.
He was the son of a widow from the tribe of Nephtali,
and his father was a man of Tyre, a craftsman in bronze.
Hurum had great skill, understanding and knowledge for every kind of bronze work,
so he came to King Solomon and carried out all of his work.
He cast two pillars of bronze, each 18 cubits high in 12 cubits in circumference.
He also made two capitals of cast bronze to set on top of the pillars,
each capital five cubits high.
For the capitals on top of the pillars, he made a network of lattice
with reefs of chain work, seven for each capital.
Likewise, he made the pillars with two rows of pomegranates around each grading
to cover each capital atop the pillars.
And the capitals atop the pillars in the portico were shaped like lilies for cubits high,
on the capitals of both pillars just above the rounded projection next to the network,
where there are 200 pomegranates in rows encircling each capital.
Thus, he set up the pillars at the portico of the Temple,
the pillar to the south he named Joaquin and the pillar to the north he named Boaz,
and the tops of the pillars were shaped like lilies, so the work of the pillars was completed.
Now we're going to look at first Kings 7, 4 through 42.
Additionally, Hurum made the pots, shovels, and sprinkling bowls.
So Hurum finished all the work that he had undertaken for King Solomon in the house of the Lord,
the two pillars, the two bowls shaped capitals atop the pillars,
and the two sets of network covering both bowls of the capitals atop the pillars.
The 400 pomegranates for two sets of network, two rows of pomegranates for each network covering both the bowl-shaped capitals atop the pillars.
So in these two separate passages, this is talking about a Hurum of Tyre,
who is commissioned by King Solomon to come in and build the Temple of Jerusalem to Yahweh, to God.
And two of these pillars are Boaz and Joaquin, which are set at the portico or the front of the Temple in Jerusalem.
So now we're going to jump up further to 2nd Kings 25, 11 through 13, and verse 17,
then Nebazirad and Captain of the Guard carried into exile the people who remained in the city,
along with the deserves who had defected to the King of Babylon and the rest of the population.
But the Captain of the Guard left behind some of the poorest of the land at 10 to the vineyards and fields.
Moreover, the Caldeans broke up the bronze pillars and stands on the bronze sea in the house of the Lord,
and they carried the bronze to the Babylon.
Each pillar was 18 qubits tall.
The bronze capitol top 1 pillar was 3 qubits high with a network of bronze pomegranates all around.
The 2nd pillar with its network was similar.
So this is when the Babylonians captured the Israelites and they are breaking up these 2 pillars.
And now we're going to jump to 2nd Chronicles 3, 15 through 16.
In front of the Temple he made 2 pillars, which together were 35 qubits high, each with a capital on top measuring 5 qubits.
He made inner woven chains and put them on top of the pillars.
He made 100 pomegranates and fastened them into the chain work.
Then he set up the pillars in front of the Temple, one on the south,
the one on the north, the pillar on the south, he named Joaquin.
And the pillar on the north, he named Boaz.
So this is talking about Huram again, but we're not using Huram's name here.
We're just talking about Huram putting these pillars together.
Now in 2nd Chronicles 4, 12 through 13, it also goes into how Huram is building these pillars again.
And Jeremiah 52, 17, 20 through 22, we won't go over this again.
This is talking about the Caldeans and how they are taking these pillars, breaking them up and taking them back to Babylon.
So now we're going to start looking at the Freemasonic breakdown and some of these other esoteric breakdowns of what these pillars represent.
So according to the Freemasons, the pillars were either brass or bronze.
And they came from a combination of sun metal being copper and moon metal, which was either 10 or zinc.
Now the mixture of sun and moon expressed harmony and balance and passing through these pillars represents a chance for a new beginning.
And the pillars were hollow and that represents a person's chance to store their baggage into these hollow pillars.
So when they pass through that they will no longer carry any of their personal baggage as they pass through and transcend.
And so when you become a Freemason that you are now what they call on the level.
So everyone that's a Freemason, once you have passed a third degree and become a master Mason, you are now on the level.
You are equal with everyone else that is a Freemason.
The reason for that you have taken your baggage, you put them in these pillars and you have passed through and they can judge you for nothing that you have done in your past.
So that is the representation, one of them of the pillars of Boaz and Joaquin.
Also the pillars may be seen representing two out of the three pillars of the tree of life.
And this is a Jewish mystic symbol and a lot of Jewish mysticism is tied within Freemasonry.
And the names of the three pillars of the tree of life are often seen as strength and wisdom with the third pillar being harmony place between them.
So the person becomes harmony as it passes through wisdom and strength.
And honestly since the Donna civilization there have been the idea of two pillars that have guarded the entrance of sacred and mysterious places.
We can look through many different cultures, we can even go back to the idea of early Freemasonry and some of the early legends where they talk about how the pillars stored these seven sciences that were then passed on through Egypt and then it trickled down into Greek and then trickled down into Rome and all of these different levels of cultures into what we now know as modern Freemasonry.
Now the concept of the twin pillars standing at the gate of all these sacred places we were talking about can be traced back to ancient civilizations of antiquity.
Now we're going to talk about Greece in particular, we just brought them up and the pillars of Hercules.
And that was the entrance to the Straits of Gibraltar.
Now according to Plato, the lost realm of Atlantis was located beyond the pillars of Hercules, essentially putting them into the realm of the unknown.
The pillars bore the warning neck plus ultra, which meant nothing further beyond and it was a warning to sailors at the time to go no further.
But symbolically speaking, if you go beyond these pillars of Hercules, you leave the fowness of the world behind the material world and you move into a higher enlightenment or transcendence.
I also found something interesting too about plus ultra. I'm a big anime fan and I watch my hero academia and plus ultra is a big part of that.
As a matter of fact, all might who is the original most powerful character before he passes on his powers to a character called Madoria that when a character in the show goes plus ultra,
they move to a place that surpasses their current limitations. So their power levels actually go up.
So I thought that was a very interesting nod to plus ultra, the actual plus ultra of pushing your spiritual essence into another stratosphere.
So just like any type of shows or media, music, anything they draw from a lot of these occult esoteric ideas that have been permeated throughout history.
The pillars also represent a portal to the mysterious.
And according to many ancient esoteric rabbi Solomon was an initiate of the mystery schools and the temple in which he built was actually a house of initiation.
It contained many pagan symbols, philosophic and phallic emblems throughout.
And the pomegranates and the palm headed columns, the pillars before the door coupled with the arrangements of the chambers and draperies all indicate that the temple to have been patterned after sanctuary of Egypt and Atlantis.
Now we're going to get into what I think about that because you may be asking the question as a Christian, well, where is the line being drawn with the temple that was built?
If God commissioned Solomon to build the temple, but Solomon was also as he kept going on throughout life, getting further and further into paganism and all of these different.
What we now know is Freemasonry, but we would consider other types of mystery schools.
How would it be okay for him to implement these symbols and did these symbols mean some people are suggesting specifically Freemasons.
I'm going to get to that in a minute. Now I do want to look at Albert Pike really quick and he was an American author, poet, order, editor, lawyer, jurist and Confederate States Army general.
And he served as an associate justice of the Arkansas Supreme Court in exile from 1864 to 1865.
And he was also one of the foremost Freemasonic minds that has ever been and he wrote a very important book called Morals and Dogma where he said that Lucifer, the lightbringer was actually the God that the Freemasons worshiped.
Now he talks about these pillars and I'm going to quote you entered the lodge between two columns.
They represent the two which stood on the porch of the temple, one on each side of the great Eastern gateway.
These pillars of bronze were four fingers breadth and lit thickness, according to the most accurate account, 18 cubits in height.
The capital of five cubits high, the shaft of each was four cubits in diameter, a cubit being one foot and that is the shaft of each was a little over 30 feet, eight inches in height.
The capital was a little over eight feet six inches in height in the diameter of the shaft six feet, 10 inches.
The capitals were enriched with pomegranates of bronze covered by bronze network and ornamented with raised the bronze and appeared to have imitated the shape of the seed vessel of the lotus of Egyptian lily, a sacred symbol to the Hindus in Egyptians.
Both these columns as you may be aware have a Hebrew translation from the Old Testament.
The etymology can be explained the word yakin and Hebrew was pronounced yakin meaning firm upright or stable bow as on either hand is a buzz meaning power or might the one on the right means he shall establish in the second in its strength.
So that's what these words mean. He shall establish and the second in its strength.
So yakin he shall establish in the second, but bow as in its strength.

We're going to talk about who built these pillars and we're going to talk about Kuram, the Tyrion or Hiram Abiff.
Now what is said that these columns were actually imitations created by Hiram Abiff and that similar columns so that the entrance of a famous temple called the Temple of Melcart.
And it was an ancient tire and it was renowned Venetian sanctuary famous for its two monumental pillars at the entrance, which is described by the historian Herodotus.
And we know Herodotus. He was a Greek historian and a Geographer from the Greek city of Heliconarsis.
And he and I've talked about him a whole lot was considered the father of history and he's got some pretty wild tales when it comes to many of what we consider to be cryptids now or these hybrids.
And he talks about a lot of those in his writings, but he says that he saw these pillars and one was pure gold and one was emerald or green glass that's shown at night.
And the pillar symbolized the entrance to the sacred space, which we'll talk about the portal and we're associated with the deity of the city representing fire and the eternal presence of the God and this God is called Melcart.
And Melcart was the tutelary God of the Phoenician city state of tire and was the major deity in Phoenician and Punic Pantheons.
And he represented very similar to Ta Mous and Adonis, the annual cycle of death and rebirth. So this idea of reincarnation comes specifically with Melcart.
And these supposed pillars that were there because nobody's actually seen them except historians because they're no longer there anymore.
And as a matter of fact, some archaeological findings suggest the columns were repurposed and taken by the crusaders, the Templars.
So that makes a whole lot of sense because the Templars were the precursors to Freemasonry.
So if they snatched up these pillars at this temple of Melcart, then they would have reestablished them.
And I find it interesting that this is again, when we look at Freemasonry and how they try to bow guard something that is good and perfect that they will try to take these things and then say that no, no, these were the ones.
These were the good ones. Well, that's not really true because now you've taken the ones from the temple of Melcart, this pagan God.
And now you are suggesting that these are the ones of Boaz and Joaquin. And we've talked about many of the Freemasonic origin stories.
And we'll talk about more on this channel too, but they tend to have this weird intermingling of what's biblical and then pagan.
And I'll take the pagan and then say that is biblical. Now you may be asking these pillars that were built in Tyre were built before the ones in the temple of Yahweh, which is true.
Historically, what we can look at is true. And if Hiramabith, which by the way, he was never called Hiramabith in anything scriptural, the only thing that we do know is that we have Huram in the Bible.
That's all we know. Huram the Tyrion. Now we know in some texts, he's called Kuram. And then of course the Freemasons call him Hiramabith.
So just know for sure that Hiramabith is not anything scripturally. However, the Freemasons attribute him to Huram the Tyrion.
So did Solomon take these pillars, these pagan pillars and then build them into the Jerusalem temple? Well, a lot of non-Christians will tell you that and they will go down this road.
But what I can tell you is is that the idea of the pillars, the idea of the gateway to God has been something since the dawn of time.
So we know this through many, many different symbols of iconography and we're not talking about just pagan, but Christian as well.
So I would suggest and many other theologians suggest that these pillars were always meant to represent God.
But these other little G gods have taken them throughout history and then tried to change them and morph them into something that they would say was good but was actually evil.
So when God finally commissioned his temple to be built, these pillars were the pillars. These were the ones that were the representation of the true God and these other pillars were not.
Why do you think that the Freemasons took the pillars of Melcart in the first place? Because they wanted to change the narrative. They want to make it to seem like the pillars of Boaz and Joaquin, the ones that represent the one true God are actually the ones that represent Freemasonry.
Now we can start looking at some other places where these pillars show up, not just in Freemasonry, but represent much of the same ideas. We can look at the high priestess of the tarot or the Popeess wearing the papal tiara and she sits between the pillars of Boaz and Joaquin and just like many occult symbols, the twin pillars conceal multiple layers of meaning.
So again, this goes back to what we talk about a lot on the show, the occult blinds and only the initiate is going to be able to understand what is represented in the picture and it could mean several different things depending on the circumstance.
If we're talking about tarot, depending on what other cards are put down with that card and how they are arranged a lot of that has to do and also with who's reading it because they're going to say depending on what they see,
they think those things should mean. Now I thought this was also really interesting. This is that also blending the mixing of what's good and Christian in with Freemasonry and watch how they twist this.
So the door place between Boaz and Joaquin leads to the house of God and standing at the gate to the sanctuary, they were reminded that Jehovah check this out now is both androgynous, both male and female and an anthropomorphic having human qualities deity and the parallel columns also denote the zodiac signs of cancer and capricorn and are formally placed in the chamber of initiation to represent what birth and death and the extreme.
And the extremes of physical light so this reincarnation again now this also ties into the summer and the winter solstices and Freemasonry talk about that as well.
I just find it very interesting that they have found a way to make Jehovah. Androgynous we know that this is just another deception of the enemy to twist what is good and turn it into something that is confusing or confusion.
Now we're just going to look a little bit in pop culture. Now if you're familiar with the Harry Potter books or the movies, you'll know about the first book Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.
And this is the first book where he first discovers that he's a wizard and his initiation is visually portrayed on the cover as him going through what two pillars.
And here's another one, the original name of the book was not Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.
It was actually Harry Potter and the philosopher's stone and we know that the philosopher's stone is an ancient alchemical concept and it represents illumination or the spiritual transcendence.
So just know that you will see these pillars pop up many times in different types of media. In the music world, Kanye West stands in the middle of twin pillars in his music video for power.
And if you ever get a chance just to watch that just to see the symbolism in that, it's absolutely insane. It's one of the most occult music videos I've probably ever seen put together.
I remember when it came out and I was just like, if people can't see it after this, then really they're just choosing not to.
So for even looking at building structures here in the United States, we can look at New Carleton, Maryland and we can look at the IRS building there and there are two pillars there and it is a state of the art facility.
But that's not why people are looking at it with a weird eye and saying there's something really weird going on there.
So there's this crazy esoteric symbolism there. There are two black and white pillars made of the highest quality marble.
And that represents the duality and the idea of the Yin and Yang and you'll see this in the checkerboard on free Masonic floors.
But this is the Masonic duality and that guards the gateway and on top of these are two hands pointing skyward and they're known as the hands of mystery.
And between these two pillars is a dark pyramid with a metallic capstone and on it is written we the people which which people are they talking about they're not talking about the people of the United States and what they're trying to do for us.
No, the IRS is doing everything they can to do what? Keep us under rule and thumb and I find it fascinating that we've got this esoteric symbolism right smack dab in the front of one of the most state of the art IRS buildings in the United States.
Now these two pillars in essence represent great spiritual principles that are the actual basis of all life.
Joaquin typifies the unity resulting from being in Boaz typifies the unity resulting from love.
So again, we're going to get this twisting of this. Oh, yeah, sounds really great. And honestly, the pillars of Boaz and Joaquin at its root core do represent something good.
Do represent something that represents Yahweh represents the God that we worship and to move into the last part.
Freemasons look at these pillars as the dual unity that we find is the key or the evolution of the spirit this transcendence of the spiritual portal the gateway that we walk through to transcend.
Now I would argue that the original pillars represented the gateway to God us meeting us having that relationship with him.
You notice how these pillars have been twisted and all of these different esoteric circles to mean that we ourselves can transcend into somewhat of a Godhood ourselves, which I believe is the greatest slide it's ever been told.
