Your Lockdown Golden Knights, your daily podcast on the Vegas Golden Knights, part of the
Lockdown Podcast Network, your team every day.
Hello everybody.
This is Lockdown Vegas Golden Knights, the longest daily running Golden Knights podcast.
That's Tony Kordasco.
He's a play-by-play dude, he's a marketing dude, and he's the host of the Believe in Vegas
podcast.
I'm Chris Golic, a day one VGK and HSK season ticket holder, hockey coach, hockey sports
card breaker, hockey, hockey, hockey.
This is our yo-eleven minutes bonus episode of Lockdown Golden Knights.
I like it.
I like it.
I like it.
We're off to a good start.
We're going to talk about the Golden Knights, should be buyers or sellers at the Deadline.
What the current cap situation is, and it may surprise you, and what we feel the Golden
Knights biggest needs are, make sure to check us out daily on the Silver State Sports
and Entertainment Network at 1pm, Cox Channel 77, and YouTube TV.
All right.
It's a rough weekend for the Vegas Golden Knights.
The trade deadline is right on top of us, Tony, are the Golden Knights buyers or sellers
at the Deadline?
Well, first of all, are we overreacting because they come out of the shoot, they're one
and two, and we remember what happened with the Edmonton Oilers last year, after they
came out of the four nations and they had to be on the road, they kind of got screwed
again because they went on the road again.
But yeah, you don't have your legs underneath you, lot happening.
This I think was a more difficult experience, but to answer your question, they have to
be both buyers and sellers because there still are a ton of needs with this team.
They are, again, like we've talked about on this show, they have like superstars and
then they have complimentary players.
And there's a pretty big gap in between, they need to close that gap.
If it's possible, I don't want to hear Kelly McCrimmon coming up on Friday at his press
or saying, well, we did everything in advance.
And the one thing that really stands out to me, Chris, is just the fact that we don't see
anything about the Golden Knights where teams and reporters are saying we see scout
here at tonight's game from all these teams.
It's void of the Golden Knights.
So what are they going to do?
I think they need to buy, get some positional needs, fill some positions, use their assets,
they have a lot of players.
I think that are coveted there with the Silver Knights organization.
And so yeah, I think they should do both buy and sell.
And I think that they can't just stand pat.
I think we've talked about this before.
And wondering recent memory, what teams that were perennial cup contenders, whether self
admittedly or bonafide cup contenders, are able to do both to prepare for the future
at the deadline and also load up to make a run in that moment.
So that's what concerns me.
I think the Golden Knights need to pick a lane.
And it's a fair question.
Is this no other reaction?
So let's look at what's happening in the Western conference right now.
Dallas stars winners of their last eight games and a Heimducks winners of their last five
games.
Those are the two teams really crushing it as far as coming back from this Olympic break
and really, really doing well, looking over on the east you have the Hurricanes winners
of their last five Islanders winners of their last five sabers on a three game winning streak.
So, but you don't see a lot of streaks like that.
So you can argue that maybe a lot of teams are a little sluggish.
The Golden Knights do have the Olympic hangover, which is stronger than the Vegas flu on its
most, what's the word I'm looking for when you can catch a sickness from somebody.
And it's most contagious and it's most contagious moment right now.
So maybe, I mean, when Tony's the calming influence on this show, folks, maybe it's really
not that bad because I'm usually the one, OK, well, here's a valid question.
Was that a guilty game, maybe on Friday, a potential hangover game, another hangover
game on Sunday for the Golden Knights?
I think that's something I think that could be regarded.
You know, a lot of guilty games, a lot of, a lot of, a lot of Muslims flying away.
We did have players that came back that were sick.
So there was some sort of a virus that was going around, not only for the Golden Knights.
No, no, no.
But I'm wondering if the Golden Knights held out those three players from Team Canada,
this losing team had to point that out.
The team Canada guys, if, you know, they were feeling not only worn out from jet lag,
but also maybe feeling a touch of what was going around.
So maybe that's why they gave them the extra time.
But then Cassidy kind of holds it over them.
And we even gave you guys like the extra time to get into it.
Yeah, no, that's not bad.
I mean, it's trying to figure out what's happening.
No, it's man.
It is.
And I know I see it's a good napkin napkin.
We're ready, man.
It's good napkin.
I got it.
I got a sticky note.
And then my notes are already done.
I got the intro down.
So I'm done with that.
Let's talk about the cap situation.
This is some that's not getting talked about enough.
Right now, today, March the second when this airs.
Golden Knights have $5.5 million of cap space.
They can use to improve this team right now.
However, William Carlson, $5.9 million on LTIR.
Bret Howden, $2.5 million on LTIR.
Carter Hart, $2 million on LTIR.
$5.9 plus $2.5 carry the one.
OK, Rhett, $8.4.
Add $2 million.
We're at $10.4 million.
Should all three of those players return.
OK, $10.4 is not $5.5.
So the gold Knights would have to make roughly $4.9 million
out of thin air to activate all three of these players.
The only players that can go down.
Brain Bowman, $837,000.
Jonas Rhyme, $775,000.
Are they going to make this cap space up here?
How are they going to do that?
They're basically a $5 million player away from being cap compliant.
Ivan Barbershoff comes to mind $5 million just throwing a name out there.
So with the cap situation in Tony,
let's ask the question again.
Buyers or sellers?
They're going to have to move around a lot of pieces.
And hey, they had David Blaine.
They're working right with the cap the other day.
He's working out some things there for this team.
Do you want to know what I have here?
Flip Rasmussen.
Flip Rasmussen Anderson.
Flip him.
I don't know.
Maybe you know what?
Maybe he's just not the same player who was before.
And they knew it was the right time to get rid of them, you know?
It would, I mean, what happened with the White Cloud?
What do you think?
No, I don't know.
Would it be, would that be compliant?
They trade back for White Cloud?
And somehow Calgary, Calgary, sorry.
I'm like, do it now.
Do it now.
Do it now.
Do it now.
Do it now.
With Rasmussen Anderson.
Because he doesn't even know where he's at.
Like, instead of coming back to Vegas, send him to wherever.
Stone to LTIR.
That'll save some.
They'll save everything.
Bring Lizinski up.
Need Marner now in the wing.
You're going to need Marner on the wing, folks, because if Mark
Stones out for any extended period of time.
Oh, no, I'm sorry, man.
He's Mr. face off now.
You can't do that.
What are you talking about?
Marner.
No, no, no.
Marner is the face off.
Stone is just saying.
No, I'm saying that's what I'm talking about is Marner.
You can't do that.
You can't move him back to the wing.
We need him in the face off circle.
Well, Lizinski's really done well in Henderson.
And he continues to do well.
And he maybe he's finally coming of age.
It's on a repetition.
I mean, I like to see the bigger sample size.
So on that note here, yes, we have some Henderson reinforcements that have been helping.
Bowman's been a nice story.
Lindbaum.
You know, Lindbaum showed something.
And you've seen a few others kind of bounce around.
Kai Euches.
You've got a little, you know, a cup of coffee kind of seeing what he's made of and everything.
But yeah, what are the biggest needs right now for this team?
What is so they do?
Yeah.
I'm sorry to cut you.
That was it.
That's.
I'm the biggest.
Well, first of all, fire Sean Burke.
That's a big.
That's a big need.
They need to fire Sean.
And they need a gold tender.
What about the broski here?
What if things don't work out in Florida and he wants out and you can get him as a rental?
He's a $10 million goalie, even if they take that's $5 million and I mean,
there's no, I don't think there's a world that exists where this team does anything with the goalies.
I mean, they've, they've made their bed and they're going to win.
They're not going to win.
If it's the same way.
And again, they would help.
Hill, what was he doing during the break?
He's, he's actually gotten worse than right before the break.
Like, what was he doing?
Oh, we're going to get him a ton of repetitions.
Where?
Pretty good.
Um, for me, I mean, I think we agree, Martyrs.
I'll always Mr.
Although Martyrs, Mr.
Faceoff, I think this team like many teams is in desperate need of a center.
Ryan O'Reilly comes to mind.
Inexpensive rental at $4 million in change would be very good for this golden night team.
And then win winner.
If if and when bread, how and gets back into the fold.
Now you got a nice, you know, one, two, three, four punch down the middle right there.
With some depth with the ability to move some players around.
Yeah.
What happens with sissons now, you know, well,
sissons has a spot cemented.
Okay.
They were going after him in the penguin game.
That was pretty interesting is though he's like the strength of the team.
But he is good allegedly in the face off circle.
And I did see some jump in his game when they came back from the break.
So hopefully, you know, he'll be more than serviceable for this team.
But, you know, and you can't have smith and sod in the lineup at the same time.
I'm sorry.
I'm just so sorry, but you just can't.
That's not chemistry.
That's not.
It's not.
Unless you're playing St. Louis, you know, every single.
And the tough thing is you're not going to trade for a deaf piece at this point.
You need a difference maker.
And really a center is about the only place that comes to mind.
So that's it.
That's what we got time for.
