The end of Mike Gundy's era ended with ZERO Oklahoma State Cowboys taken from the NFL Draft. Eric Morris has a ton of pressure to produce in year one, he could send the right message by how many players get drafted out of the next class. Several Cowboys now have the opportunity to help transform Oklahoma State once again, just like Mike Gundy did all those years ago. Cowboy baseball hammers Texas Tech and then Texas Tech got hammered by Brenden Sorsby.

My gunny help put Oklahoma State on the map and a new era of college football hit a wall
full of NFL successful cowboys who are slightly fitting that the gunny era officially now
ends with zero cowboys drafted.
You are a Lockdown Oklahoma State, your daily podcast on the Oklahoma State Cowboys, part
of the Lockdown Podcast Network, your team every day.
Welcome back to Lockdown Oklahoma State, your top stop for all things, Cowboy and Cowgirl
related.
My name is Cody Stovall, thank you very much for swinging on through to make this year
first.
Listen, today we get to jump right into this conversation of Cowboy football, not having
anybody drafted, basically just puts a bow on the end of a mic gunny era because guys
getting drafted at Oklahoma State before my gunny was very few and far between.
So underneath who has had what over 42 players drafted under his tutelage, that is almost
25% of every player drafted in Oklahoma State history.
So my gunny did usher us into this new era of college football while being relevant in
the transition from the BCS era into the new landscape that we've seen over the last
decade or so.
My gunny put Oklahoma State into a topical conversation all across the country.
The last time Oklahoma State was completely devoid of the draft picks was 2008 before 2020.
In 2008 to 2020, my gunny and Oklahoma State had a player, multiple players drafted every
single year that became an expectation at Oklahoma State.
It became that in recruiting as well that you can, you know, catapult yourself from Oklahoma
State to the NFL.
And we talked about the recent run of linebackers, whether it be, you know, Devon Harper or Malcolm
Rodriguez or this previous season with Nick Martin or Colin Oliver, there's a lot of talent
that has come through Oklahoma State to see the zero Cowboys drafted.
It does basically again, just accentuate the end of an era for Oklahoma State in it opens
a new one.
Congratulations to former Cowboys like John Stribbling, first pick the second round, Kenos Daniels
was able to get drafted.
But now we look forward to a new era, just like my gunny put Oklahoma State on the map
in a time where it wasn't really popular.
Now Eric Morris has an opportunity to do something very, very comparable.
So the last time we had no players drafted was 2024.
Prior to that was 2020, prior to that was 2008.
That's the amount of success that my gunny has had while at Oklahoma State.
So is sad as it is to see the end of the Mike gunny era end this way, it does kind of
feel like a final chapter, right?
It does feel like there's nothing left to be hanging on to, like there's no amount
of fan bases or orange loving fans that can say, well, if my gunny had another couple
of years, maybe this particular group could have X, Y or Z themselves into a different
stratosphere, it is fitting to have zero draft picks.
And Mike on these last year, which is kind of crazy to think of, there's only a handful
of teams in the power four level that had nobody drafted.
Now we did have some unsigned free agents picked up.
So we do got to give some shout out.
So I saw recently, Brent Allen was acquired as an unsigned free agent by the Denver Broncos,
which would be kind of cool for me to see them in action right down the road.
Sam Jackson, the fifth to do it all guy, played wide receiver, played quarterback, played
return man.
He's taking his talents to the New York Jets, then we have Cam Smith corner back that came
back throughout all of the turmoil over the last couple seasons.
So it's nice to see him go to Baltimore to become a raven on the offensive line.
How about Bob Schick?
The big fella gets his opportunity to go rock and roll with the New Orleans Saints.
In addition to that, the Patriots, Patriots went out and got themselves a pretty good defensive
back that might have an opportunity in Ken Harris.
Ken Harris was probably one of the most improved.
How about the UCO dude getting his opportunity last year at Oklahoma State, making the
most of it, Tara Davis is also going to be a Baltimore raven parker Robinson.
Parker Robertson was the guy who we relied on more than we ever thought physically possible.
Parker Robertson is also taking his talents up to the Denver Broncos West Paul number
90 with a boot that dude is going to go become a Cleveland Brown.
Now I don't wish the Cleveland Browns upon anybody.
But I also think that this gives us an opportunity to look forward, right?
We have Millie Charles coming back or there's going to be a lot of conversations about, you
know, Dremes Demaker, which we're going to get to here in segment two.
But lastly, you know, you see the Desjardins dribblings of the world and the Kennel Daniels
of the world.
And right wrong or indifferent, right?
The thought process on my gundy at the end was, you're not getting enough donor buy-in.
And I think this is a good piece that alludes to that.
If we had more donor buy-in under the my gundy era, we could be talking about Desjardins
dribbling, being drafted out of the Oklahoma State Jersey instead of an Ole Miss Jersey.
We could be talking about Kennel Daniels, you know, going through the drafted in the
cowboy jersey instead of that Jersey 71 miles south, we do not speak of.
It's just, it's kind of crazy.
Before my gundy, having very many players drafted, like, yeah, growing up, I remember this
while I loved our Dremes quarter so much, because it'd been a while since I had personally
got to see Cowboys getting drafted.
So growing up, it was once every couple of years, few years, we would have somebody drafted
and then we'd follow their career to the ends of the earth, because we didn't have very
many Cowboys in the NFL, so shout out to my gundy for at least changing that.
At least making it to where there was an expectation almost yearly that you're going to have
guys in the draft.
The millisecond he started getting the Zach Robinson's and the Desjardins of the world,
that changed the trajectory of Oklahoma State, and it at least put us in enough living
rooms and enough recruiting conversations that it is allowed Eric Morris to take this
job, because like Eric Morris has said a thousand times, he grew up watching Oklahoma State
dominate.
He's over inside Boone Picking Stadium.
I think he even said he's over as a coach or a player playing against Oklahoma State
in almost any capacity.
So my gundy definitely set the foundation the right way.
But now Eric Morris has an opportunity to do something even my gundy didn't have a ton
of success doing and that's the exorbitant number of guys going through the draft.
And because of the transfer portal, perhaps that conversation changes soon.
Before we get to that, indeed, you do need indeed, especially when workplaces are chaotic
enough.
You have deadlines stacking up.

We get a roll right in here to the opportunity now for Eric Morris.
The most Oklahoma state draft players in a season was four well five technically if
you go back to 1984, but in the my gun the era.
We had several instances where he had four players drafted four players drafted four players
drafted and some of our most popular cowboys over the years have been undrafted free agents.
But other than 1984 85, it's been we had four players obviously last year we had four
players this pre 2021 we had four players in 2018, which featured James Washington, Mason
Rudolph, Trey Flowers, Marcel Aitman, 2019.
That was Russell O'Koon, Des Bryant, Paris Cox, Kindle Hunter, 2021, Kevin Jenkins, Chuba
Hubbard, Tyler Wallace, and Bredarius Williams.
And then obviously we talked about all the Gordon, Nick Martin, Colin Oliver, and then
we got to throw Cory Black into that draftable conversation from this previous season as
well.
Oklahoma State has had multiple seasons of at least two draft in the first round, 1947,
1989, 2010, 2012 are all years at Oklahoma State has had multiple players drafted in the
first round, the most being two.
And now we get to shift gears here a little bit.
The biggest conversation is going to be Dremestemaker, right?
He is draft eligible because this is technically his third year after a registered year and
the last year's absolute domination is a red shirt freshman.
This is his third year.
So after this season, he will be draft eligible.
If he puts up 4,600 yards again, and he puts up 39 touchdowns again, yeah, he's probably
going to go to the NFL, it would make a ton of sense for him to do so because if you
come up to the big 12 level and you make a pretty miraculous run and you put up those
kind of stats and you prove that what you did at North Texas is applicable no matter where
you go.
There's a possibility that Dremestemaker is an early like first round top three kind
of pick for Oklahoma State, but let's let's go with the older guys, the guys that we
know don't have any more eligibility left.
Those dudes are important.
I think James Williams just come over from Florida State.
He's going to have an opportunity here, not only from his success at Florida State, but
even more so his success that he had in Nebraska before Florida State.
So we get to be a recipient of multiple years of success at this level.
If he has a big season, he could be a draftable cowboy, Justin Bowick.
Justin Bowick is an individual that did have, you know, some film this previous season
and in Illinois, he's been identified as a severe red zone opportunity and a mismatch.
So Justin Bowick has as big of a season upcoming at Oklahoma State that we think he might.
He could be definitely somebody that's in conversations to be drafted, Malik Charles.
That NFL pedigree could have a big opportunity here, him coming back to Oklahoma State to
very big deal.
The beginning is something that we've been a part of for Malik Charles.
So there's no doubt with his size, with his skill, with his pedigree, if he has a pretty
good season, he's somebody that we could be talking about, undraft boards.
No horn coming over from Texas Tech, he has the capability to do so, trip wide.
Is this going to be a big year for him coming over from Ole Miss?
He's going to have multiple years in still order, the understanding, the culture, the camaraderie,
schematics coming over with some of the, the, the North Texas guys should be big for him.
If so, he could be drafted.
How about a ny-wide coming over from Penn State?
He has a body of work that is draftable.
He's the Muslaski.
If you're going off of numbers, production, this is like another Malcolm Regas kind of guy
for the Cowboys, Johnny Dixon coming over from North Texas.
Louis Canepa, last year was a massive addition due to injuries, we really didn't get to
see a lot of them.
And then you have six foot, seven, three hundred, thirty pound, Ash and Aleppo coming from Michigan
State.
If healthy, he's definitely somebody that could find his name being drafted.
Jacob Sexton, another one of those individuals that has a lot of previous success at OU.
So if, if you're looking out all of his film from OU, if he has a big year this year at
Oklahoma State, he could be somebody that we're talking about getting drafted.
Donovan Green, Donovan Green, the one-time five-star big deal at Texas A&M, went to LSU, kind
of got turned into more a blocking tight end, which is good for film if you're trying to
make the leap to the NFL.
So now if he can get back to the production film at Oklahoma State, this is easily somebody
that will definitely be drafted for the Dishon Brown.
He's had a decent amount of success at Oklahoma State, but never a breakout season.
I think you could say the same thing about Jalil Johnson.
He's had a lot of success.
He's seen a lot of growth at his time at Oklahoma State is that massive season going to be
this year.
But most Phillips, I think most Phillips was a massive addition for the defensive backfield.
If he can kind of write the ship a little bit for Oklahoma State and be part of that
opportunistic defense that gets a lot of turnovers, perhaps he could be a draftable individual.
Evan Jackson coming over from North Texas could be a name that we're talking about.
And then you have some other guys, you know, they're juniors, so they're projected to
come back to Oklahoma State or at least to college after this upcoming season.
But if they have all American level years, there's nothing saying that they couldn't
end up in the draft.
And that's guys like Steve Clements or coming up from North Texas.
I say Chisholm coming over from UCLA, Kavion Huddleston coming over from North Texas.
Christian Bowden are I think would potentially be a dude in the back end.
And then of course, Drew Messmaker.
Is it going to take a pretty crazy season in my opinion for Drew Messmaker to enter the
draft?
Yes.
And I think that's also visible by the NIL deal, getting a multiple year deal.
Definitely sends a little bit of a message that the ideas that Drew Messmaker will be
here for multiple seasons at Oklahoma State.
Kav Hawkins, he's another dude that's very, very young.
White young is somebody that I think he's a junior, so I believe he's a draftable individual.
If he has a 1200 yard season, 1,100 yard season, if he does anything close to what he did
in North Texas.
So there are some other names that could easily pop up here, but I wanted to take a peek
at some of the James Williams and the NILites of the world that could easily find themselves
drafted.
And then you have got somebody like Cam Epps.
How cool would that be to see Julie Johnson or to Sean Brown or Cam Epps, you know, go
through this process and get drafted after going through their recruitment when Oklahoma
State was playing for Big 12 titles to the worst years in Oklahoma State's history, probably
two worst years under my gun, the so to see them stick all that out and to see the majority
of their team get pushed off to other places or get told to enter the transfer portal or
pick up agents that had, you know, connections and other places to see those guys get drafted.
I think would actually go kind of towards my gun, the to some degree, would it not?
However, I find it exciting that we have an opportunity here.
If you get five guys drafted this season, then you're talking about 1984 85 territory.
And for the future, if this is to become a destination style of school, which I do think that
it has the capability of being, we have the NIL backing that we did not have before.
We have an energized donor base.
We seem to have a fairly energized fan base, although, yeah, I think attendance on the spring
game leaves a little bit to be desired.
Whenever we as fans show up and show up for this upcoming season,
this is a new era, but when you're looking at some potential draft picks,
it could be a scenario where Eric Morris kicks off his Oklahoma State tenure with more draft picks
than ever before under my gunday. Now, I don't know, times are different with NIL and portal.
So it's a little bit of a different way to kind of scale, but if he gets five, six dudes,
at any time in the next couple of years, he's already doing something technically that my gunday
was unable to do at Oklahoma State.

aka regulator club. Last but not least, cowboy baseball put an absolute weapon on tech.
If you know a rater, your friends will pull the rater, grab them out of the show and say
prayer for them. Get my hug because they're feeling it today. Not only did they get absolutely
eviscerated on the baseball field more often than not. Not only did they allow Oklahoma State to put up
30 some odd runs, they also lost the quarterback. Brennan Sorsby. The fact that Brennan Sorsby,
you know, this and what's crazy about all this is Brennan Sorsby is checking himself to a facility
for like rehab. When it comes to gambling, a gambling addiction, something to that effect,
the craziest part of all of this is Cincinnati knew about this. This is something that stems back
to 2022 when he was at Indiana and he was a red shirt, so he wasn't playing and he was betting on
Indiana winning ball games. I don't, I don't know. I mean, I don't see the massive ordeal here,
but what I do see is it kind of feels like Cincinnati played a dirty game here.
Because since Natties already kind of come out and people have discussed how Cincinnati knew
about all this and because he was a red shirt and he wasn't playing, it didn't really matter.
Well, it sure did matter now, didn't it? And maybe this is a message to any players out there
if you've done anything dumb that your current school knows about.
It maybe makes you a little bit more mindful when you're about to enter the transfer portal.
I mean, I'm not saying that there should be any blackmail type stuff, but it is fair to assume
that since Cincinnati knew about this before they acquired his services and since it didn't
affect anything this previous season, if you would have stayed at Cincinnati, it probably doesn't
affect him this upcoming season. But since Natties decided, yeah, you're going to play hardball
and now we're going to air out your dirty laundry, that may not have happened. However,
it's just the timing of it is very, very odd, especially since Cincinnati knew about this
for quite some time. And since Natties deemed it is not that big of a deal until it came back
around and it does stink for tech a little bit because Will Hammond, who showed a lot of flash,
a lot of problems, he won't even be back healthy for the first few weeks. So thanks for tech,
a little bit. Hey, at least she still got softball, pretty talented and basketball.
And you're still going to be very, very talented in football. It's just going to be interesting.
It'll be crazy to see the former Tulsa quarterback, Francis Kirk Francis, whatever the case may be,
that guy, he seems to be the guy that's likely to take snap for the first few weeks now.
Unless they go pick up another, you know, portal acquisition, which is always a possibility.
However, this does change the quarterback rankings in the big 12. I mean, it just has to.
I think nationally, a lot of people presume that the Brennan-Sorzby was the top edition.
I think Drew Messmaker has a very, very good argument to that, even if this whole nonsense
hasn't had not come down for Brennan-Sorzby. So I don't necessarily envy it because I want to see
the big 12 at full strength. So now anybody that beats Texas Tech at any point in time of the season,
it's going to come with that asterisk or that caveat of, yeah, but I mean, they did it against
X, Y or Z quarterback. They didn't even do it against Brennan-Sorzby. So now, Texas Tech's going to have to,
I don't know, pull a rabbit out of their hats to make something magical happen. And now this will
shuffle some of the quarterback rankings in the big 12 regardless of what service you're looking at.
So maybe tomorrow we should jump in and we should give our run down on the big 12 quarterbacks.
Now that we know that there's some chaos happening down in Taco Tech country.
Anybehoo. I'm going to go. My son has his ACL surgery today, so say a prayer for my little fella as
well. Anybehoo. So we're going to have this one right here. God bless. Go folks. Thank you for
tuning in to make this year for a lesson here in Lucknow. I'm going to state you could be anywhere.
So happy you choose to be here. Do me a favor, hit the like button and you'll like it.
Dislike if you didn't. That's okay. Two more importantly.
