Well, it's not Massamba Diop, but it is still a very skilled seven-footer.
But first, Brennan Soresby is no longer the number one ranked quarterback in the Big
12.
You are a Lockdown Oklahoma State, your daily podcast on the Oklahoma State Cowboys,
part of the Lockdown Podcast Network, your team every day.
Welcome back to Lockdown, Oklahoma State, your top stop for all things, Cowboy and Cowgirl
related.
My name is Cody Stovall.
I want to thank you kindly for swinging on through to make this your first listen.
We get to jump right into this headline, grabbing story, Brennan Soresby is no longer the
top ranked quarterback in the Big 12 and Texas Tech took a massive slide.
So let's pull up the rankings for the new list of the top quarterbacks in the Big 12
now that Brennan Soresby is going to be out for the season.
It starts off with likely the next Texas Tech quarterback to slide in here.
I think it should be former Tulsa QB coming in at number 16, Kirk Francis, who has at
3,045 yards at Tulsa, 18 touchdowns to 13 interceptions at 58.4% completion percentage
he might be passed up by Jones, the guy who registered it last year, 6,4, 215 pounder,
but it would be pretty cool to have a Tulsa quarterback take the first few week snaps
for Texas Tech.
Next I have KU's cold baller at number 15, pretty cool story, especially with his dad
being a GM in the NFL.
He comes in with only 445 yards to his name, three touchdowns to four interceptions at 54.7%
completion percentage, but as weighted as turn, it would be a really cool story.
He could have a big year because he hasn't entered the transfer portal.
He stayed loyal to KU this entire time and a couple of years ago when they had some
quarterback injuries, he did average 8.4 yards per carry.
So there's some hope there number 14.
I have JC French JC French now has to take over for Brennan Soresby at Cincinnati coming
in with 2,929 yards, 20 touchdowns to eight interceptions.
He had a 63.8% completion percentage to go alongside with six, six rushing touchdowns.
Number 13, I have Alonza Barnett coming over from JMU 2,866 yards, 23 touchdowns, eight
picks, 58.4% completion percentage with 15 rushing touchdowns.
That's pretty crazy.
And not a lot of people have the West Virginia quarterback room this high, but I do have
Michael Hawkins already up here at number 12 in the conference after the spring game.
950 yards at OU six touchdowns, two interceptions, 61.9% completion percentage.
He did also factor in with a couple of rushing touchdowns through nine games at OU.
And there are reports that he did just clock a 42940 at practice for West Virginia the
other day.
We have all seen the speed like that with somebody like a Hoss Haney can completely
change the game.
So if Michael Hawkins has some of the success that he had at OU with this speed at West
Virginia with that system, he could be very problematic in the big 12 moving forward.
Next I have number 11 cutter bowling going from Kentucky to Arizona State, bringing in
his 2,160 yards, 15 touchdowns, 12 interceptions, obviously that number is too close to each
other.
He's got to work on that.
But he does come in with a fairly impressive 65.8% completion percentage and a couple of
rushing TDs to go alongside of it.
How about another dude that likes to get mobile agile, hostile Jalen Rainer coming over
from Arkansas State to Iowa State to replace Rocco Becht, bringing in his 3,300
61 yards 19 touchdowns to the air 11 interceptions needs to be cleaned up at 66.5% completion
percentage and seven rushing touchdowns is definitely something to be excited about.
I went back and forth here.
I maybe could have put Jalen Rainer above Julian Lewis.
But I do have Julian Lewis cracking cracking the top 10 in the big 12, even though he
only comes in with 589 yards for touchdowns 55.3% completion percentage.
He is still that 5 star talent that had almost 3,500 yards passing in high school this
scenery season to go alongside 46 touchdowns.
His offensive line is pretty abysmal, which is one of the few reasons he probably won't
end up on this list postseason this high.
But I think talent wise, Julian Lewis deserves to be a top 10 quarterback post spring in
the big 12 next to have a number 8 DJ lagway just off of talent, not necessarily off of
production.
His previous season at Florida, he had 2,264 yards, 16 touchdowns, 14 interceptions
obviously that that's not very good.
But he did have a 63.2% completion percentage, which is not too bad.
And he had a rushing touchdown athletically, he brings a lot of things.
I don't know how much you put into spring, but there was a quite a few clips of DJ lagway
throwing absolute massive dead ducks repeatedly in practice.
So he cleans that up because athletically he has a lot of talent.
Number 7, I have the Harvard transfer, Jaden Craig going to TCU bringing in his 2869 yards
from this previous season alongside 25 touchdowns through the air to 7 interceptions at 61.5
percent completion percentage.
He also had a few rushing touchdowns as well.
Sonny Dykes has already kind of poked some fun at Josh Hoover for having too many interceptions.
Jaden Craig is the exact opposite with I think only one interception in this previous
or seven interceptions as this previous season compared to what Josh Hoover was doing.
It's pretty, pretty impressive.
Number 6, I have a bear, Bach Meyer from BYU, the first BYU true freshman to start the
season or second and BYU's history had 3,33 passing yards, 15 passing touchdowns, seven
interceptions, 64.9% completion percentage, and 11 rushing touchdowns is definitely impressive.
I probably could have or should have put bear Bach Meyer ahead of every Johnson at number
5, but I think the combination of Colin Klein and every Johnson is going to be very effective.
I'm a little concerned about what they could do together because I think every Johnson
and Marcel Reed have a ton of commonality and they can to state does have a comparable talent
to some of the pieces at Texas A&M with Colin Klein.
This could be a marriage that we're all concerned about.
He brings in 2,385 yards, 18 touchdowns, six interceptions this previous season at 59.8% completion
percentage and his speed is obviously evident with eight rushing touchdowns.
Number 4, begrudgingly, I have Utah's Devon Damp here.
I hate giving Utah props with films film and talent doesn't typically lie.
And Devon Damp here had 2,490 yards last year at Utah with 24 throwing touchdowns to only
5 interceptions at 63.5% completion percentage and his 10 rushing touchdowns prove that from
a two way capability is pretty, pretty rare.
Now we get to have some fun here.
Drum roll top three.
I did go back and forth here, but I had to give number three to Connor Wegman.
If he hadn't missed a couple games last year due to injury, perhaps this changes the story here,
but his 2,705 yards, 25 touchdowns throwing nine interceptions at 65.2% completion percentage
and his Texas pole MVP were not quiet enough.
In my opinion, to clip number two, no, for feet at 3,228 yards this previous season at Arizona 29
touchdowns through the year, six picks at 64.3% completion percentage.
He had a few rushing touchdowns as well, which equals Drew Mastamaker as number one.
Can you call this a homer pick?
Sure.
However, I would have had him blowbred in Soresby before this Brennan Soresby news came
to fruition.
Now that it has, it's hard to look at his 4,379 yards, 34 touchdowns through the year,
nine picks at 68.9% completion percentage and a handful of rushing touchdowns.
I don't know how you look at that with a six foot five, 220 pound frame and not view him as
the top quarterback in the conference is 4,400 yards in the G5.
The same in the big 12, absolutely not.
So let's say you cut out a thousand yards.
He would still be the number one quarterback in the big 12 from a production standpoint.
And his 34 touchdowns through the year would still be number one in the big 12th.
I understand that there is a discrepancy between G5 and big 12, but I think with his
foundational abilities to not let the ball hit the ground as we had heard ad nauseam going
back with Jeff Christensen is the reason he was telling coaches you got to get eyes on this
kids because the ball doesn't touch the ground.
Drew Messmaker throws catchable balls at an unprecedented clip.
So not only does he have the yards, he has the touchdowns, he has the rushing capabilities,
he has the prototypical size frame skills, but that ability to get the most out of your wide
receivers is why he has those yards.
It's not just a G5 thing per se.
It's because he puts the ball in a place where his wide receivers can catch it on the run and
keep on trucking. That is an area of expertise that Drew Messmaker has that I don't think everyone
in this conference does. That is precisely why you can call it a homer pick if you'd like to,
but I do think that now Brennan Soarsby is out and he has entered this gambling rehab.
It does open the door for a numerous amount of these guys, but I think Drew Messmaker has the
most talent and the best foundation to have the most success.
Year one in the big 12, the proof will be in the pudding as they say though.

massive addition for Oklahoma state. We needed this interior help and now we have got it, especially
still in somewhere from Georgetown. Pretty big deal. Julius Halifinow is an Oklahoma state cowboy.
This seven footer comes in with a seven point one seven five arm linked wing span has a nine point
three two five inch reach standing. He has a 28 inch vertical. He had nine point five points
of game just under 10 this previous season. There's a sophomore at Georgetown while playing
in 32 games. He had four point four rebounds a game. One point three block shots a game.
And then at Georgetown is a true freshman. He was able to chip in with three points a game
just under a rebound a game just under an assist a game before coming to Georgetown.
At the FIBA U19 World Cup, he averaged 10 point five points a game, five point four rebounds a
little over two assist a game just under two block shots per game. And then in the NBA global
academy games, he averaged 12 point eight points a game while shooting 57% from the floor.
He helped his team to a silver medal at the oceanic championships where he averaged nine points
a game, little over five rebounds a game in the U16 Asia championship. He averaged another
12 point eight points a game over nine and a half rebounds a game. Let his team to a silver medal.
He's won the U.S. Ambassador Award for the male junior player of the year in 2024.
He helped his team in New Zealand also get to a silver medal at the 2023 FIBA U17 championship.
This is a dude that can run the floor. This is a dude that fits into the Steve Lutts style of system.
And we all know that he likes to work at least to some degree from inside out. You go look at a
boo small or you go look at parsofala. We are a team that is designed to run from the interior.
You know you got bin on med coming back. You know you got macaque raglan coming back. And those
were two guys that were forced into roles last season that they likely were not prepared for.
I don't think that Steve Lutts or themselves went into the season thinking that bin on med and macaque
raglan were going to get a bunch of time. Like bin on med was coming off of a surgery. And if I
recall correctly macaque raglan missed a decent amount of a senior year of high school as well
with an injury. So both of these guys were not coming in 100% yet they were thrust into a role
and they ended up performing it fairly admirably. One of the biggest reasons I think they were
capable of doing that was because of the emergence of Kanye Clary. The back and forth between
Kanye Clary and Jalen Clary and even Daniel Guetta to some degree at the beginning of the season
was a little confusing. It felt like Jalen Clary had his own role and Kanye Clary has his own role.
But as the season progressed we saw Kanye Clary gain that confidence that he had at Penn State
as a true freshman. We re averaged 16.7 points a game. We saw his ability to facilitate,
get better as a feeling ability to drive the lane and get in on the scoring. It increased as
the season progressed. And I also think that that emergence from Kanye Clary is why we saw bin on
med macaque raglan look as adequate as they did. Perhaps in situations that they weren't exactly
100% ready for and you look at Andreja Bukovic. We now know coming into the season he already had
two bum knees. That was likely one of the reasons he probably wasn't going to play this year's
because he was having some knee troubles. He decided to man up as they say, play anyways.
And even on two bum knees he had some massive moments that got Oklahoma State some big time W's
that helped get us into some semblance of postseason play. I think a lot of that development was
because of Kanye Clary. I think Kanye Clary made macaque raglan and bin on med look even better
at times because of the situational awareness. The same can be said about Andreja Bukovic.
Kanye Clary learned and he adapted to the limitations of Bukovic and he found ways to get him more
involved. He found ways to make him an integral part of getting massive W's. So now if you make
that applicable to this class that it's top 15 according to one. I think on three and the number
28 top 30 according to four seven. But when you look at it when you combine the high school with
this portal class Steve Lutz has done something. I don't want to say miraculous but maybe spectacular
is an applicable word to use. So of course you have the trail. All men coming in. This is
all American McDonald's all American. We got to watch him in McDonald's all American game.
You know that defensively he's going to bring something to the table. You know that he can score
35 40 points on a fairly regular basis. This is a 97 overall consensus four star all American.
Then you have Anthony Flesi coming in and you Flesi is another four star no more on ranked
player in the state of Utah number 35 nationally and a 95 overall rating. Then you have Jalen Mountain
6785 pound legacy that we have watched drop 40 45 46 47 on a fairly consistent basis both in high
school and out and out on the travel circuit. He comes in with a four star 90 overall rating.
Then you have Parker Robinson another six foot four 205 pound three point shooting specialist that
does have some capabilities defensively. He comes in number eight in the state number 22 nationally
and another 90 overall ranking. Then you go to the portal and we just picked up again Julius
Halfinale the seven footer coming from Georgetown that average just under 10 points of game
was number 56 right player in the entire portal which gave him a 93 overall four star rating.
Then you get a Luca Bocava Luca Bocava coming over from North Carolina. Another one of these high
four star 91 overall rated dudes and you got Andreja Gorbovich from Arizona state.
Another four star 90 overall rating in the portal. You go get three star Jacob Walker 87 overall
rating who drops 17 points on Oklahoma state inside Galgraiba arena. You go out and get the
defense specialist and cashew not which is precisely what we needed. We needed another Otero Dean kind
of guy. Cashew brings that to Oklahoma state and I think that when you look at this collectively
this 6.11 seven foot 6.10 we brought in a couple four was we brought in a tried and true center now
we brought in a couple defensive specials we still got some feelers out there like me. I've
talked to a couple donors that were personally involved in the Missama Dioff sweepstakes and they
were very confident that they had reached a number with Missamba that was going to either get him to
be an Oklahoma state cowboy if he wasn't going to get a top 15 top 20 guarantee from the NBA draft.
Perhaps maybe he got that number that he was looking for or perhaps maybe somebody did slide in
and financially give him top 15 NIL that would be equivalent to the NBA draft which I would assume
Oklahoma state wasn't quite willing to do because he's not quite in top 15 top 20 guy right this
minute. So you know maybe we're not going to overpay from Missamba so we go out and we get this
seven footer that is you know top 55 top 56 in the country when it comes to the transfer portal
dudes and I think this allows guys like Ryan Crottie to get a little bit closer to what they were
supposed to do Ryan Crottie came in shooting what 42.9% from three point range coming out of high
school he shot like 41% from three point range in the YBL circuit as well yet at Oklahoma state he
was asked to perform a little bit of a different role he had to play a little bit more defense he had
to get down low and bang a little bit more than we probably intended for him to do I don't think
that Ryan Crottie and Kyraggle and Ben Ahmed I don't think any one of those three were athletically
in big 12 shape yet they all three were put into positions where we needed them and a decent amount
of time all three of them performed now you have guys who've already performed at the ACC level
or the big East level you have guys that have come into Galgur Iba and been successful on the same
very floor that we're not going to ask them to be the defensive juggernauts that we know they can be
you've got three big guys now that can run the floor that can all three shoot that can all three
defend that all three have a little bit of eligibility to go alongside you returning guys I think
this is a team that has already been put together right here now that is good enough to win a game
in the NCAA tournament now if you go out and get Frank Keppnong or something to that effect
or go get the kernel right defensive player of the year if you go get one of those dudes now you're
talking about a team that can make a little bit of a run in the big 12 tournament you now you're
talking about a team that could make a top four if run in the big 12 I firmly believe that you
know this piece right here is the piece that we needed to get it in that top six top seven
conversation for the conference this edition is edition that is good enough to get us into the
NCAA tournament maybe even win a game so now we're just missing maybe one or two more pieces
for this being a deep run conversation that we're now having in Stillwater America

regulators come on down
all right last but not least uh kobi merrill that's taking down gracious on Ross
now he did it utilizing his physique now the difference between kobi and his brother kodi merrill
the kung fu panda and store america himself is the younger merrill is a massive individual like a
white hendrickson almost sized individual speaking of why it did secure himself a title land robadu
got himself a w for the u-20s which puts him in in a position to wrestle wrestle the world team
trials run your merres had a top three finish kodi ruttledge i think at a top five finish we had a
couple upcoming commits that had top three top top eight style performances as well so it was a
decent showing by ukulele mistake uh i just implied in a getting second however
ration on Ross is the story here now it's not worth completely freaking out over that kobi
merrill got the upset over number one ranked ration on Ross because as we've talked about was
xaco on on you know the crossovers pin state is ration on rosh has been so talented has been so
athletically dominant that he's never really spent much time on bottom because there's nobody really
good enough to keep him on bottom and even kobi does some degree it wasn't necessarily keeping him
on bottom but he was able to bowl in the ring his way to a lot of points kobi merrill was big enough
and strong enough to push ration on Ross out of the the map over and over and in freestyle that's
a point i think to some degree that it should be looked at as a point in in folk style as well but nonetheless
all he had to do was continuously keep pushing dration out of the the ring the mat to get points
and then dration made a wild run at the end to get it really close so maybe if there was another round
or another two minutes dration might have gotten the w but it's a learning moment now it is
going to be different because kobi merrill cannot acquire a bunch of points by simply pushing somebody
out of bounds um but yeah the other younger merrill is going to be a problem that i would state now
again i do think that that ration on rosh will still hold the advantage when it comes to folk style
over freestyle because of that that capability to to for merrill to use his size to just keep pushing
for a point at a time but it does make it more intriguing it does make it more interesting and i did
see some people say well when you when you get dration on rosh there's nothing for kobi merrill to do
other than you go somewhere where he can wrestle immediately and i get it but at the same point in
time if we're going to be a team that's taking down the pen states of the world why can't we have
the top two heavyweights in the country on the same rosh i mean i know it's
asking a lot of one of them to do a lesson to perform a lesser role that they're too good to do i
kind of get it but it does feel like pin state oftentimes has the ability to convince some of their
heavy hitters to stay here but take a year off and maybe we could have had something like that
in store with the combination of merrill and rosh but these are likely the best two heavyweights in
the country so it sets up a lot of fun moments for oculum estate versus i was state wrestling moving
forward especially with these two particular dudes and lastly put a ribbon on this show
so yesterday's episode we were talking you know a little bit about oculum estate not having anybody
drafted and it's only like the third time since 2008 that's been a thing and we talked a little bit
about it changing the upcoming season well somebody sent me like a nine minute clip of
the jb show and it was of them talking about there's three hosts and one of them was sean king
a lot of us remember sean king from his NFL days playing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers
sean king when the box popped up of the power four teams that had zero draft picks of course
oculum state and west regina were up there there might have been another big 12 team if i
recall correctly but any of who oculum estate was up there west regina was up there as two powerful
programs with zero draft picks and the first thing out of sean king's mouth is that team he didn't
even call us oculum estate he called us the wrong name at first but he got corrected and he was
like yeah oculum estate they don't even belong in the power four they don't deserve to be a power
four team so it's kind of pointless that they're even in this conversation and i was very confused
because sean king is an expert when it comes to the game of football yet i vaguely remember and
somebody correct me down the comment section if i'm wrong but i thought i saw some clips of that
same very show during the cfp playoffs that sean king talking about how to lane had earned the right
to be there they deserve the right to be there they were better than a lot of power four teams
and to lane was good enough to be in a power four to lane could go win the acc etc i thought i heard
sean king saying the same things so for him to say the oculum estate doesn't deserve to be a power
four team is an absolutely asinine statement for somebody that claims to be an expert when it comes
to a college football because in the years for 15 16 years my gunny was winning eight games nine games
10 games 11 games 12 games two lane was winning two games three games four games and yes i did go
back and look from like oh five all the way up to the early 20s two lane and oculum estate were not
even in the same hemisphere so for him to sit here pretend that two lanes are earned the right day
deserve the right are good enough to be a power four team but somehow magically oculum estate is not
because they've been bad for two flipping years is absolute insanity to me so i just wanted to kind
of add that little touch at the end here that i think it's it's crazy if you wanted to say you know
what i don't follow big 12 i don't know a lot about the big 12 i probably should just stay in my
lane that would have been understandable but to pretend that two lane and oculum estate are even
in the same hemisphere is preposterous so i just wanted to uh yeah throw that fun little tidbit at
the end here because i couldn't believe i heard that it's like this is a two lane alarm
acting like oculum estate has been what we were last year for the last 30 years like come on man
anybody who that's all we're gonna have this one right share as always you know i love you god bless
