Clay Travis Show: 11 College Football Week 1 Picks, LSU-Clemson & the AOC 2028 Threat
About this episode
The Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show is made possible by:
Clay Travis is back with his College Football Week 1 gambling picks, breaking down 11 games and revealing his best bets as the new season gets underway.
Clay explains why he likes Clemson to cover against Lane Kiffin and LSU, why Stanford could keep things closer than expected against Miami, and what he sees in matchups involving Texas, Tennessee, Wisconsin-Notre Dame, Florida State, Ole Miss-Louisville and more.
Then, Clay dives into the massive spotlight surrounding Lane Kiffin at LSU ahead of the Tigers’ showdown with Clemson and reacts to the latest headlines surrounding college football’s most talked-about coach.
Plus, Clay turns to politics and explains why conservatives shouldn’t underestimate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. After watching AOC discuss dating, family, egg freezing and the possibility of having children, Clay argues that her ability to appear relatable and authentic could make her a formidable contender in the 2028 presidential race.
Clay also weighs in on the Lindsey Clancy case, personal accountability, the growing appeal of socialism among younger voters, and why frustration with the economy and modern life could reshape American politics.
It’s college football, politics, culture and more on The Clay Travis Show.

This is bad. Like run for the hills, bad. Do it now. I don't have the money. But I've got some more valuable. You shall know the truth. The truth? Don't make it free. The fix in theaters September 11th. Welcome into the Clay Travis show. I am your fearless leader, Clay Travis. That's my name on the wall. I also have Sport and State. That's my website and also my sports media. Company writ large. And we have had a lot of awesome additions to Sport and State. If you haven't made Sport and State.com, your home online for part of the day. At least then I hope you will consider doing so.
We have a big audience every single day on Twitter. I appreciate that. We are trying to grow a big audience on YouTube. So go into the comments. Make comments there. Click like and subscribe on all of our YouTube channels. You can find us basically everywhere. I do three hours on 550 AMFM stations. You can watch that live on YouTube every day too as a part of the Sport and State Network. At the Clay and Buck show page, we have around 150,000 subscribers there. And you can see me for three hours every single day there. As soon as that show ends, I hop over here. And you can see me hanging out for at least another half hour or so. Live with all of you. And we tend to focus on sports more so on this show. Although I'm going to talk about everything under the sun as I always have. Also, as we get ready to give you the college football week one gambling picks brought to you by Hard Rock Bet,
it is also interesting and important for you to know. It's never happened before in my life. A large media organization has written a positive article about me and about Buck. And about the influence of the show, it mentions the founding of Sport and State. It mentions the cell of outkick. It's going to be in the weekend edition of the Wall Street Journal. I shared the link. I believe we have a couple of pictures of it for all of you to see. Boom. Now, everyone is ridiculing what I look like in the photo. And I will say that there was an experimental aspect to the photo shoot in that we were hanging out with an actual serious photographer and artist as it were. I had no idea what was going to happen. But I was pretty happy with this. And so everybody starts to tee off on me on the picture. Here's what I'll say in general. If the story is kind, I don't care. There I am now playing the flute. If the story is kind, I don't really care what the photo looks like.
If the story is mean, I would at least like to have a nice photo that is taken of it. But in all seriousness, the headline, the minute that it went up, I saw it early this morning when I was getting up, getting ready to take my kid to school. And I knew, hey, this is going to be a good one. I want to make sure that I get the headline right. And as soon as I saw it, I said, okay, maybe this is going to be fair. The headline is the conservative radio host dominating the airwaves. And I think that's accurate. We've signed multi-year extensions. So if you hate me, I'm sorry. You're going to have to be able to listen to me for three plus hours a day every day for the length of time. At least that it's going to take a kid to graduate from college. And that's tough for you. So betting against me has tended to be a losing proposition. But who knows? Maybe you'll be right one day. If you want to take the opposite side of a Clay Travis bet so far, you've had a pretty consistent 22-year rise.
I feel like in some ways we're just getting started. But maybe you're right. Maybe being a Clay Travis hater is actually going to pay off for you. So put your chips in the table. We'll see. I like my hand. And I hope that you will enjoy that Wall Street Journal article. I also shared a piece about all the growth that we're seeing at Sporting State. We're hiring a bunch of writers. We're hiring a bunch of behind-the-scenes people. We are expanding in earnest while also remaining a small business. But today we debuted to bet the board podcast. I believe the team can text me and let me know. I don't think their first show is up yet. But it has been recorded. And I am told that it is real and spectacular. And if you are a fan of College Football or the NFL, I really do believe when I mean this when I say it, Todd Furman and Payne Insider, I believe have the best show for sports gamblers in the entire country.
It's going to be brought to you by Hardrock Bet. And I think you guys are going to absolutely love it. Okay. With all of that in mind, it is Wednesday. Tomorrow, the Sporting State first week, bets begin to be tallied. I am, if we want to bring this up, Hardrock Bet is sponsoring all of this. I'm going to be really simple with you. You can also play in my home state of Tennessee. You can play in Arizona, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, New Jersey, Ohio, and Virginia, as well as my home state of Tennessee. And I'm just giving you $100, which you can use to then put money on these games. So, let's go ahead and start running through them because I am fired up. I've got 11 winners for all of you.
And they start on Thursday night. Here are all my picks. Georgia Tech minus six and a half. Georgia Tech beat Colorado, if you remember last year, Haynes Keane scored a late to give Georgia Tech a 27 to 20 lead. Alberto Mendoza, the younger brother of Fernando, is going to be the new Georgia Tech quarterback. I am taking Georgia Tech minus six and a half in this opening Thursday night game. Then on Friday, this is not going to make everybody happy inside a hard rock. There are a lot of big fans of the U, a lot of big fans of the U inside a hard rock. Here's the problem. Hurricanes are traveling all the way across the country. One of the longest flights truly that you can take in America is Miami to the Bay Area. I think the longest flight you can take, I believe I'm correct in this in the continental United
States that is nonstop is Miami to Seattle. It's a long trip. I know everybody focused on the Southern cowl, the USC Trojan crowd. Did you actually see what the crowd was like for the Stanford game? Now look, I'm in the process right now. I have been. I've been going on college tours. I've got a son who is now a freshman at an SEC school. And we went around and looked all over the place at a bunch of different schools. I've said this before, I think Stanford is for pure campus and surrounding community, probably the best school in the nation. Now Vanderbilt is my favorite school in the nation. I'm biased. I'm an alum, but I really wanted to go to Stanford after I visited that campus back in 2000. I wanted to go to Stanford law school. They didn't let me in. I ended up going to Vanderbilt. Now Vanderbilt has gotten a $10 million donation for me.
And my wife who I met at Vanderbilt law school. So I think I made the right decision. I think it ended up working out well for me. So you don't always get in the school. It gets your top wish when it comes to college or grad school. And oftentimes it ends up working out. I believe in that. I'm an optimist. But I was blown away by Stanford. I was not blown away by Stanford's crowd. I think this is going to have an environment and an atmosphere that is somewhat akin to a low level Friday night high school football game. Not that much energy. I think there are university of Miami practices that will have a higher energy level than what we will see in Stanford in Palo Alto on Friday. This is a Friday game. I'm taking for Miami to win. But I like Stanford plus all the points. I just really feel like Stanford's going to have some success. They put up 37 against Hawaii last weekend with nobody watching.
I don't know. I think probably Miami wins by 14 to 17. So I feel pretty good about the 24 and a half here. All right, Texas State Texas. You guys know I picked Texas to win the national title. But next week is Ohio State. Oftentimes you can have some success betting on a team that has got a monstrous next week opponent. I think Steve Sarkisian is going to get his starters out early. Texas State has jumped to the Pac-12. Their quarterback completed 70% of his passes. These are great research facts from William, who's now on the team. For 3,000 passing yards, 21 touchdowns, just seven picks. Texas State covers as a 29 and a half point underdog. Baylor Auburn. I love, love, love the over here. South Florida transfer by Ram Brown along in that Alex Golesh offense. You remember the Alex Golesh offense? I know Alabama fans do because of all the points that Tennessee hung on to Alabama in that
epic 2022 win. The 11 and 2 University of Tennessee team that performed the best under Josh Hypole so far. That was Alex Golesh. He went to South Florida, went on the road and beat Florida last year. Golesh has had a lot of success. And Baylor, frankly, hasn't been very good offensively under Dave Oranda going forward. The Bullscore 41 last year on average. Tennessee, Ferman. All right, I, Faizan Brandon is starting for Tennessee. He is a true freshman. I think Tennessee believes they have something special with him, but they do not want to overload him or have issues associated with him. Jake Garcia is the quarterback for Ferman. I think we get a late score. By the way, Garcia, welcome to the modern era of college. Football has played for Miami, Missouri, East Carolina and Michigan. This is his fifth different team. I think they cover the 46 and a half. 31 and a half point favorites for Iowa against Northern Illinois.
And I use got a brand new head coach. This is crazy. All right. Iowa should not be favored by 31 and a half points against air. Based on the history of their offense, I'm going with Northern Illinois big game. Tap the veins, boys and girls. Chatchy PT can do more than answer questions. It can help you get real work done. I'm going to talk about Vanity Fair article that is out about Lane Kiffin. There has been so much attention that has been foisted upon LSU. From the moment that Lane Kiffin left Oxford and headed to Baton Rouge, Lane Kiffin, it feels like has been in the news every single day. Lane Kiffin, I think it's fair to say, is now the most hated coach in all of college football. Let me say this, I like Lane. I've always had a pretty good relationship with Lane over the last 10 to 15 years. I think he is a great coach, and I think he does whatever he can
within the rules to win. I think the run that he had at Ole Miss was incredible. I don't begrudge him for deciding to leave, but I do think that it's often the case that the team that dominates the off season doesn't show up and play as well in the actual first game of the season. Got a brand new quarterback who's coming off of a significant injury. You've got a overwhelming home crowd, which sometimes can psych your team out a little bit. Clemson is totally under the radar. Dabo, relatively speaking, has been pretty quiet. I just think that this is going to be a single digit game. I still feel like LSU gets the win, but I think Clemson plus double digits feels too steep for me. UCLA minus one and a half against Cal. You guys know I teed off on Niko a lot last year. I think his new coach, Bob Chesney, that has been inherited by Niko and the rest of the UCLA Bruins is going to be able to be a good fix for his overall offensive skill set.
I'm not sold on Cal. I still believe by the way, this should be a pack 12 rivalry game. I think UCLA gets the win on the road by a touchdown or more. Wisconsin, I'm taking as a big, big underdog in a game in Lambo field. You have got Notre Dame, which has not played since they feel like they were unfairly left out of the college football playoff. Two first round running backs are gone. As good as Marcus Freeman has built this roster, I think CJ Carr right now is a little bit overhyped. It's going to be a tough environment. Wisconsin fans have been drunk since Memorial Day. I like Wisconsin to find a way to cover the 20 and a half. And then this game, Louisville Ole Miss here in my backyard of Tennessee. It's a neutral site game. Both teams are going to be scoring points like crazy. We know what the Ole Miss offense has been capable of doing under Trinidad. Chambliss, I don't think that's going to change. Jeff Brahm is a fantastic coach and has done great for Louisville.
I would expect that this will be a pretty good crowd. Electric lots of fans from both teams. I like the over in this one. And then finally, FSU. I went to two games last year at Doke Campbell Stadium. Went to the opener against Alabama. And then I went to the later season game against Miami. I think that as good as Kevin Jennings is and as much success as he has had, Florida State, this is a statement game. They weren't great last week, but they got some reps in. I think they win outright, but I will take them for three points. All right. Let's talk about Lane Kiffin for a moment. Lane Kiffin, I just said, has been in the news, can't escape. Those are my 11 picks, by the way. There they are, up on the screen. All of them. I'm drinking my Crockett coffee. Crockett coffee, by the way, is the official coffee of all of our friends at Sport and State.
Also happens to be the coffee company that I own. You should go to CrockettCoffee.com. It's named after Davey Crockett, who let's be honest, is flat out amazing. And Davey Crockett, we love American history. We believe America is the greatest country in the history of the world. If you also believe this, then you should sign up and start drinking Crockett coffee. All right. Let's talk Lane Kiffin for a moment. I flagged this. There's another vanity fair article about Lane Kiffin. It's an excerpt. ESPN's Marty Smith reports Saturday season opening game against Clemson. Most media celebrity credentialed game in LSU Tiger Stadium history. LSU specifies this is from Marty Smith, good guy at ESPN, that nearly 900 credentials have been issued for Clemson LSU and college game day will be there. I'm a part of Big Noon on Fox, so I would prefer that you watch that. We will see what ends up happening. There is a Thursday hearing on whether these guys are able to or not able to go from
NFL training camps to college football sidelines. So we will wait to see what happens there. But this is going viral right now. Lane Kiffin, there are a bunch of vanity fair details that are out about Lane Kiffin. And I always say it feels like the media just decides to target you sometimes. And so I have been targeted, you guys know this, by the media before. Here is some of what vanity fair says. They quote, this is for my book. They say that Nick Saban said, you've got to keep Lane away from the girls in college. Just keep him away from the sorority girls. Make sure they've graduated college or are working a job. This is a vanity fair excerpt of a new book that's according to one former coach. And it has all sorts of questions. Some of you remember back in the day, the reports that that Lane Kiffin went by the alias
Joey fresh freshwater when he was out in the Tuscaloosa bars. And there are all sorts of details about him there. Now here is what I would say in general about this. LSU is the perfect place to be if you are doing anything that's a little bit inappropriate. And I'm not accusing Lane of doing anything inappropriate. I'm just saying they don't care. All right. You know what counts as not having an open container in Louisiana at drive up Dacquery stands, a piece of tape over the straw. What was the great quote from the governor back in the day, a team if you can look up who exactly said this. One of Louisiana's governor said the only way I lose this election if they is if they find me in bed with a live boy or a dead girl.
That is an all-time line, right? And I may not have perfectly nailed it, but it summed up Louisiana politics for me quite well. Again, the only way you can lose election if they find him in bed with a live boy or a dead girl. And we just had John Kennedy on Clay and Buck. And let me raise you the John Kennedy quote which got a ton of attention as it pertained to Lane Kiffin. I think he is the senator from Louisiana, but I think it kind of epitomizes what John Kennedy believes. He can go hit on Christy Knowham's husband in a dark cocktail lounge. We don't care as long as he wins, but he better win. That is an amazing quote. Maybe we'll play it for you tomorrow on the program. But I think this feels as if Lane is under siege. If he wins, then that will start to fade away.
But right now it feels like a lot of people are out there digging. I like Lane. I think it makes college football more fun. I would point out, however, that the very baseline here is we need to have some element of rules in place as you have heard me talking about quite a lot. Okay. I want to play this. Yesterday, I got home. Where was I yesterday? I was out and about running all over the place. I get home. I did a sit down interview with the daily wires. Isabel Brown. That's going to be up later this week. I'm not sure exactly when, but I think you're going to enjoy it. It was good. And I like Isabel Brown a lot. She does Gen Z outreach. She's 20 some odd years old, I believe, about to have her second baby. Congratulations to her on boy number two. And we have a collection here of AOC. She was interviewed by TMZ.
And I want to play this for you. I think it's about two minutes. And I want to tell you why I think a lot of people are sleeping on AOC from a political perspective. Play that, please. Could I ask, would you ever date a conservative? Is that anything you'd ever been to? I have to say it's probably not. You didn't date a crusty aisle? No, you know, it's not to, you know, no foul to people who do, but but I think, and of course, how you define that is very different from a person to person, right? But I think a lot of politics sometimes, at least for me, is about values and being aligned with in values, I think, is tremendously important. That makes sense. Would you have children in office? Because, you know, your future is bright. It's bright. And so when is it going to be the right time?
Yeah, you know, I think, well, first of all, one thing that I hear from a lot of parents is that there's never a right time and an effort for a perfect time. I do think that for a very long time, I was very concerned. You know, if you're a working person here, you face a lot of the constraints that a lot of other working people across the country face. And it was very hard for me to imagine very basic things for a very long time. It was very hard for me to imagine being able to have a baby here when childcare is so expensive. And I acknowledge that I'm relative to many Americans. I am in a place of privilege. And even I don't know how it would be possible. But we've seen your books and you're not like loaded or anything. It's not like you've got read it. Right, exactly, exactly. And so I've had that thought. And so I don't know. I have a lot of, you know, I think sometimes these conversations about political speculation happen very too dimensionally, right? Like, is she going to run for this or is she going to run for that?
And for me, I make decisions about my whole life, right? It's not, it's not ever just in a career context. It's about how do I fit all of these things? And I feel like my ambition is not just a career ambition. It's about how do we get to soak up as much of this life as possible? And sometimes that has to do with doing really aspirational things with work. And sometimes it has to do with really big aspirational things with love and family. And I was always raised as a family first kind of person. Okay, I disagree with AOC on basically everything under the sun. She is supremely formidable. She is a legit threat. And I went on Jesse Waters and I talked about this video and what I saw, but I have more thoughts. But I love this guy Clay Travis. He was on Fox News with Jesse Waters.
And this is what that conversation looked like last night. And then I've got more for you. Watch this first. I will say though, Jesse. Yeah. I watched that clip of AOC with TMZ in DC. That's a lot of initials. She was really good. And I think what AOC has mastered that these others haven't. Tallerico Abdul El Sayed. She just came on ABC News said, woke one was crazy, laughed, and washed her hands of every moronic take she's had in her entire political career. And it took because simultaneously she was talking about freezing her eggs and looking for a boyfriend and trying to decide whether to have a kid or not. And if you're just a normal person, which there are not a lot of in politics, AOC seems very normal in that walk. Here's a question for you, Jesse. Sure. Can you imagine if they tried to have Comma will walk in a parking lot and get in interview by TMZ? How awful that would be for her. AOC does it well. I'm telling you, I agree
with you. I think she is preparing herself for a 28 run. Yeah, she's got to look down and she looks happier. Maybe because you cut Lucer fiance, but she definitely seems relaxed. But the whole denouncing woke one that's just to cover up. That's just because she knows it doesn't sell. And so she's like, I'm not going to talk about all this crazy stuff. I'm going to get into power. I'm going to do the crazy stuff. I'm just not going to run on the crazy stuff. She thinks we're stupid. And maybe some of us are. Yes. Yeah, what she's diagnosed Jesse is we're in a post-consequence world. Now, I still think that Kamala Harris is going to be the 2028 Democrat nominee for president. Because if you look at the slots that they have put the primaries in, South Carolina is the very first Democrat primary. Overwhelming numbers of black voters are going to show up there. And I think identity politics remains the foundation of the Democrat party. And so I think what you are
going to see is black voters are going to show up in huge numbers for Kamala because that is the base of the Democrat primary voting electorate. And Kamala's base is stronger than any other candidate's base. But Kamala Harris couldn't do that walking in the parking lot interview that AOC did. She couldn't do it. It doesn't matter what the questions are. She couldn't look normal. She couldn't look authentic. I think the 2028 election Trump is such a hurricane of activity. I think that you often see a swing in a different direction when one president finishes America decides they're ready for a new type of president. It's a little bit like in college football. You ever notice how typically if a defensive head coach gets fired, the next higher is an offensive head coach. And if the offensive head coach gets fired, a lot of times the next higher
is a defensive coach. It might happen in your relationships. If you have one type of girl for end or boyfriend, you break up, you often end up with a different type. It's not usually a subtle variation of the prior. You're trying to go in a different direction. The country might do that. And people out there and I agree and I understand they're going to say, well, what's AOC's wrong on immigration? AOC's wrong on tax policy. Yes, she laughed it all off. She said it was woke one. And she just moved on. She basically just acknowledged that she was wrong on a ton of issues, laughed it off, moved on. And that's that. That's a political skill. Getting interviewed and being normal is a political skill. AOC showed herself freezing her eggs. And then in that interview, she said, I'd like to have a family. Family is very important to me. I'm paraphrasing her. She said, I make a good salary. I understand that I make more than your average person does. I think a Congress person makes around $185,000, which sounds like a lot of money.
But if you are in a big city as some of you are and you're paying 50% tax, money can go away in a hurry and she said, look, I'm privileged compared to a lot of people. But I worry about working in the cost that raising a family might create for me. She is speaking to the women out there that are desperately wanting to have families, but they can't find the right man. They're educated. They're making pretty good salaries, but they're freezing their eggs because they can't find a man to have a family with. That's a huge part of the base of the Democrat party. She is normal in a world where most politicians come off very abnormal. And I think connecting feeling the pain as Bill Clinton used to say of the average voter is more important than nuanced, detailed policy perspectives. And by the way, if you're out there and you're saying, Clay,
you're totally wrong, South Carolina just elected darling Graham to the Senate. And she couldn't even explain what she would do if China invaded Taiwan or why it mattered. People liked her because she seems like what she is a Southern grandma, a Southern mom, who is the sister of Lindsey Graham that was a beloved politician in South Carolina. I've said this before. When I grew, when I was at Vanderbilt Law School, we had something called OCI on campus, on campus interviews. And as part of those on campus interviews, those of us who were not from South Carolina were told, hey, South Carolina is a provincial place. The law firms there like to hire people who have spent long times in South Carolina before. And if you're a South Carolinian who wants to work in Colombia or Charleston or Greenville, you got a real good chance to be hired in South Carolina.
But if you're not from here, even if you're going to schools like Vanderbilt in the South, one of the top institutions in the country, but certainly I would argue in the SEC, in the SEC states, Vanderbilt's by far the best university in the SEC states. You couldn't get hired. A lot of people love South Carolina. It's a beautiful place. I do too. They elected a senator based on the nepotism in many ways, the connection of her to her family. And she wasn't even able to answer questions very well. I'm not saying AOC is going to like the world on fire with her subcontinue knowledge of complex economic issues, but I think she's going to be an effective communicator. And she will be schooled up. And I think she is a formidable foe. And that's even though I think she has been wrong on virtually every major issue that she has faced, I think it's important to recognize what's going on there. And let me add this.

I was just looking to see if I could see my quad box right over here. I don't know whether we're going to get a verdict in the Lindsey Clancy case at all. I think by far the most likely outcome is a mistrial, but I have been writing and talking about this a great deal. There are a lot of angry women in America right now. And their empathy and their emotion, I think, is being channeled in a direction that actually makes their anger worse. You ever notice this? I think it's a good life lesson. And since I'm anunk, let me give you a good life lesson here. It's normal to be angry. It's normal to be frustrated. Heck, it's even normal to be depressed at times.
Oftentimes when you are not in a great emotional state, you diagnose that you are not in a great emotional state. And then you make a decision to try and address that emotional state that actually makes things worse. In other words, I understand people who live in New York City and they say rent is too high. The average one bedroom, I think, in New York City right now costs somewhere around $6,500. New York is the second most expensive city in America after San Francisco. If you are in your 20s or 30s, I understand why you would see those numbers and you would be very, very frustrated. Electing socialists who promise that they're going to freeze rent actually is going to make things economically worse for you. It's like seeing that you are overweight and deciding that you're going to eat an entire pint of ice cream. In the short term, the immediate gratification of doing something that you think is going to make you happier is,
oh, I'm eating ice cream, I'm going to get a sugar rush. This is going to make me feel better. But you're actually making a choice that is counterproductive to your overall health. And when you make counterproductive to your overall health choices, those all add up and leave you in a worse place. Oftentimes, the only real way you get through challenge is just by trying to do things a little bit better every day until those become habits. Now, it's not sexy. It's not sexy to say, hey, if you're overweight, go to the gym every other day. But it makes a big difference. It takes a while to recognize that big difference. A lot of women in particular, I think, are angry at their situation. They say, hey, I went to college, I got a degree. I didn't meet a guy. I'm working really hard at my job. I can't find a guy that's worth
marrying and having a kid with. I was told if I did all these things right, if I went to, got good grades in high school and I got into a good college and I busted my ass in college. And then I got a job. I was told that I would be rewarded and you look around in your 20s and 30s and you say, boy, this doesn't feel very much like a reward. It feels a bit like punishment. And then you look around and you say, maybe the issue is not the choices that I have made. Maybe the issue is just that society is allied against me. I'm angry. That's really what Democrats sell. And they sell it a lot to young women and it's a fertile group to be selling to because, frankly, there are a lot of angry people. The problem is if you are angry and you make poor life choices, you get angrier and things get worse. And I would also point out a lot of people
out there are spending a lot of money on advanced degrees. Right as many people are deciding that advanced degrees aren't that valuable. And so if you spend $150,000 to get a human and organizational development degree and you come out and you're making $43,000 a year and you've got hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt, I understand. And then by the way, eight years later, you're making $48,000 a year. And you've got this huge debt cloud hanging over your head. Really what oftentimes these base Democrat voters are angry about is that capitalism isn't valuing the degrees that they have achieved as highly as they think capitalism should. And so they say, well, maybe socialism is the answer. Again, all of this matters on a big scale, but I think on an individual scale, it can speak to
why the AOCs and the Mamdani's and the L Sayeds and the James Tallerikos of the world right now are popular. They're not selling anything that makes sense, but they're selling something that is new. New is why socialism is popular. New is why communism is popular because a lot of young people weren't around during the Cold War. They don't remember the Berlin Wall falling. And so what they're doing is just saying, we need something new. I'm not being valued. I'm not having the success that I believe I should be having. It's not because of me. It's because of society. And again, it goes to the very base of the Democrat societal perspective, which is you are a victim. Your individual agency and life choices is not the reason why you're where you are. It's larger society. And really, this boils down on the Lindsey Clancy level, right? If you remember, I mean, you'd talk about this
tomorrow because we may get a verdict, but I want to talk about a couple of different cases here that have gotten recent attention. Do you remember Arena Zorutzka? Arena Zorutzka was stabbed on a Charlotte public transit by a guy who had been arrested a ton of times and should have never been on the street. She was the young Ukrainian blonde girl sitting in that seat went from behind. He stabbed her right in the throat. She bled out and died almost instantly, never hardly even aware of what had happened to her. The guy who stabbed her was clearly mentally insane. That doesn't mean that he doesn't deserve to go to prison. Frankly, to me, it doesn't mean that he shouldn't be executed for that crime. In Times Square in the last 48 hours, a young mother was walking through Times Square. She was stabbed to death by a complete stranger in Times Square, who was later shot by police. That young mother died. Using mental insanity as a defense for
Arena Zorutzka's murder or for the woman who was murdered in Times Square, to me, is a copout. Because lots of people are mentally unstable when they commit murders. Lindsey Clancy may well have been mentally unstable. She might have been depressed. She might have had postpartum depression. I do not care. In particular, if you murder children, I believe you should be held accountable. I think you could even examine whether we should have a men's rea component. I'm saying this is a lawyer. In addition to the actous rea component to it, why is insanity a defense when it comes to child murder? Insanity is not a defense when it comes to sleeping with someone who's underage. If we believe that protecting children is important, and I do, how in the world can we ever justify letting people get away with murder? I'll leave you with that dark idea.
