The End Mainstream media has betrayed our trust. Rather than tell us the whole story about the important issues of the day, they tell us only what they want us to hear. Your hosts, Tom Harris and Todd Royal will bring you the other side of the story. I received an email last week from Paul Driesen, senior policy analyst for the Committee for Constructive Tomorrow or CFAC, and the email started as follows. Swedish activist Greta, quote, doom pixie, unquote, Thunberg famously ranted at the United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guitares and other dignitaries in the UN General Assembly Hall, quote, you've stalled in my dreams, my childhood with your empty words, people are suffering, people are dying, entire ecosystems are collapsing. We are in the beginning of a mass extinction.
How dare you? They applauded her passion and redoubled their efforts to impose eco-imperialist climate, energy, and agricultural dictates on people across the globe. Paul continues, my article sends Ms Thunberg's demands right back after, and her fellow travelers, I ask how dare you demand that we shut down the energy and economic systems that make our lives, health, and living standards possible, because you insist on forcing us to eliminate those that work and replace them with substance that bring blackouts, poverty, disease, deprivation, joblessness, and shortened lives. Wow, talk about hitting the nail in the head, Thunberg's demands, if actually followed, would indeed ruin our civilization. To help us understand why, I've invited the author, Paul Dresen, of CFACC, to be my guest today. I hope we will also get into how climate policies are hurting the poorest people in the world, especially in Africa.
My co-host Todd Royl, who's an expert on these issues himself, he's away from the show on business. Besides his work at CFACC, which publishes article challenging Thunberg on their site, Paul is author of eco-imperialism, green power, black death, one of the most important books about the disastrous impact of so-called green policies on Africa. He's also co-author of the 2018 book, Cracking Big Green, to save the world from the Save the Earth money machine. Oh wow, Paul also worked with other public policy institutes that promote environmental stewardship, enhanced human health and welfare, and personal liberties and civil rights. He's been published thousands of times in media across the world, and will be including links to some of his more recent writings when this episode goes to podcast on Monday. Paul received his BA in geology and field ecology from Lawrence University in Wisconsin, and he also received a Doctor of Law degree from the University of Denver.
He was last on the program in April of last year, so welcome back to the show, Paul. Thanks for having me again, Tom. Yeah, you're always a great guest. So in the article that I referenced in the introduction, you turned the tables on, Greta Thunberg, and asked her, how dare you? What do you mean by that? No, I didn't ask her, how dare you? I asked her, how dare you? Yeah, this is on her. And I meant she is constantly or was constantly until she shifted gears a bit using climate scares and all kinds of rants to vilify possible fuels production and producers and users. And to push costly unreliable wind and solar that cannot possibly power a modern economy or society and will lead to significant disastrous decay, lost jobs, blackouts, hospitals and schools not functioning.
The whole system that we rely on, which is hugely electricity based today, it will bring that all tumbling down if we try to go that path and it will cost trillions and trillions of dollars to go there. And it will mean tens of thousands of extra people die needlessly because they can't get proper heat, proper air conditioning, proper medical care on and on and on. She totally glosses over that. I don't think it ever even occurred to her. She just is this. Oh, I want she was doing a lot of her climate stuff, still a teenager, but she thought she knew everything. And she thinks anybody that opposes her is essentially not just wrong, but they're evil, they're hateful, and they need to be silenced. This is kind of what she took to the UN a few years back. Yeah, it reminds me of something called the Dunning Kruger effect. And you know, it's interesting. These two researchers, their social scientists, they studied how confident people were in their point of view and then evaluated how much they actually knew about the topics they were confident about.
And what they found was that people who were the least knowledgeable were the most confident. And the people who knew the most actually recognized that they knew very little and were less confident. So I mean, is this what's going on like she doesn't know enough to realize she doesn't know enough. Well, I don't think she recognizes that, but clearly that is the case. I think she was spoon fed a lot of stuff, probably given a lot of scripts to memorize by her parents and other people around her. And you're your comment just now reminded me of a survey that was taking. I don't know, five, 10 years ago. Schools around the country, they queried students. Are you really confident in XYZ skills and an example was math skills. The students in Washington DC schools came in almost number one in their confidence about their math skills. And they came in dead last in their actual accomplishments and skills in the math arena. So same thing, but you know, this is this case with so many people, I think on the left, they substitute slogans and screaming for any real knowledge comprehension.
Grass of the overall implications of what they're promoting. And they don't want to know about it. They don't want to have a discussion. They certainly go on to engage in a debate. They just want to ram through their slogans and their policies. I think they're essentially anarchists. They simply push it through. They don't have an actual plan for what's going to replace what they destroy. But let the chips fall where they may is their attitude and the chips generally don't fall on them. They're the upper crusts. They're the politicians, the university folks and so on. It's the people in the working classes, the poor and middle classes that really take the brunt of the the hitting. Yeah, well, it's sad because our politicians should be mature enough to not take them seriously, but they really do. You know, they're pushed into these things partly because the media gives lots of coverage to the red of thumbbergs. And you know, here in Ottawa, we have something called delegations where for five minutes, you can speak to the climate change and environment committee.
And the city unfortunately takes these people really seriously and yet none of them have any training and anything related to what they're talking about. I mean, they're usually graduate some history or arts or whatever. English law degrees. Yeah, like Chuck Schumer got out of law school and he was immediately in the Congress. It's all that's ever done his entire life. They have not had any experience in that real world out there. They have no engineering, geological, you know, economic, etc. experience. But as you said, they just get up there and act like they really know what's going on and they're listening to the loudest voices, the ones that will get in their faces the most. They're listening to the journalists who are also activists more than their journalists. And they ride the crest of the leftist wave that is crashing in on us like a tsunami because they're so well organized and they've got so many billions of dollars behind them, not just from member dues, which are minimal compared to what they get elsewhere, but all kinds of foundations, individuals, corporations and government entities.
Billions of dollars every year. Yeah, it's interesting. The Climate Policy Initiative out of San Francisco, they track where what they call climate finances being spent. And most of it is being spent actually on wind and solar power. And the number they have most recently is five billion US dollars a day. They see that again, five billion US dollars a day is being spent on climate finance around the world. And that's only what they can track is probably lost more. Yeah, it's around $2 trillion a year. Yeah, it's more than five billion because it's approaching to trillion. And you know, the trouble is just like you said, you don't see engineers in these environmental groups because they would know that the whole thing is nonsense. My dad used to say about most of the protesters. He said, well, if they spent a little more time in the library, they wouldn't be protesting. Yeah, absolutely right. Now, you've listed a number of how dare you's in your article.
And I hope you can go through them one by one for our listeners and expand on them because the articles great, but of course you have a word limit there. So I'd love to hear a little more about each of these. How dare you? Yeah, I'm just going to read what I wrote and then we can talk about ways to expand on the point. The first one is how dare you employ bogus scares based on computer models that can't even create, recreate past climates and climate changes much less predict future climate and weather. And how dare you turn every temperature and weather event flood drought forest fire into assertions that wildlife humanity and planet face imminent demise from the use of fossil fuels and modern agriculture. Yeah, well, that's perfect. So I mean, it's perfectly wrong. I mean, right that you wrote that, but wrong that they're using the models. So I mean, are the models even capable of forecasting accurately, let's say 20 years in the future? Well, figure this one point, the models emphasize carbon dioxide and greenhouse gases as the primary driver of climate change.
The primary greenhouse gases water vapor, they don't include that by except to a very minimal extent because that's one they can't control. They can control the various effluence that come from fossil fuel use or agriculture and use that as a pretext for controlling fossil fuel use and agriculture and controlling our lives because 80% of our energy still comes from fossil fuels. 100% of all these petrochemical products, 6000 plus of them, including pharmaceuticals, paints, plastics of every description, fertilizers, all kinds of things without which we could not continue to exist. These are all fossil fuel based. And then the other point I always bring up is what are China and India, Vietnam, all these other developing countries, some of which are way past developing countries. They're into the solidly emerging or emerged economies. They're still burning coal more than anything else. It may be true that China has more solar power going or one of the biggest solar use wind power users.
But when you look at that as a percentage of their overall electricity generation, it's pitiful. And again, they are also using petrochemicals for all these petrochemical products. You cannot get those with wind and solar. You only can get them from oil and natural gas. So you shut down all those wells, you give up all those things including credittonberg's, I've paid iPhone, her computer, her megaphone, anything she's using, most of her clothing is at least partially synthetic. And the rest of it that's cotton is harvested, planted, tilled, and so forth with tractors and other equipment that also use fossil fuels, gasoline or diesel. So they don't have a clue what they're really talking about. And yet they never stop screaming in our faces and refusing to answer any of our questions or address any of the points like the ones I just made.
That is beyond their kin. It's beyond anything they are willing to do because all they want is screaming holler and destroy what we have with no plan once again to how they're going to replace what we have now. And I think a lot of them are happy to go back 100, 200 years in their living standards. I am not, I'm not planning to do so. And I think their attitude toward the developing world in Africa, for example, much of South America, much of Asia is the same. You do not need to have modern living standards. You don't need lighting computers, refrigerators. Yeah, we'll give you a solar panel and you can run a one cubic foot refrigerator in your grass and mud hut, or you can have a light bulb so you can keep reading at night. You can have a little solar panel phone charger. Those are the things these lefties and the tonnebergs of the world are accepting thing are willing to accept the poor countries having.
Even her boats that she takes on these various excursions are fiberglass. Where does she think fiberglass comes from? How do you think she gets the mast? It's steel or aluminum? What does she think that comes from but mining fast amounts of rock to crush and turn into steel eventually using fossil fuels? It's just maddening to deal with these folks. Well, yeah, before you go on to the next how dare you at the point I make is that I think a lot of them actually believe what they're saying, but I think there are some that are very smart that actually have a different goal in mind. So I mean, could you talk about that because if you're going to destroy society and you know you're going to destroy society, then your goal is is obviously not the betterment of human kind. So I mean, these more evil people and I think a lot of them are just naive, but the more evil directed ones, what do you think their goals are? Well, I'm always reminded I'd never remember who said this, but it's the well-intended, but ill informed being led around by the nose, nose by the ill intended, but well informed.
Yeah, this is what we're dealing with. We do have a whole codery of people who want to bring Western society down a peg or two and keep developing countries where they are today. John Holdren, I mentioned him and repeatedly in my articles, he came along during the Obama years and he was the science advisor for Obama and company. Long before that, he and Paul Ehrlich and various other folks wrote a book and one of the key things they said in that is that they wanted to first de-develop the United States and other developed countries. Take them down a substantial amount and then once we were de-developed, they would determine and mandate how far underdeveloped countries could develop from where they are today on the basis of what is ecologically feasible development. And they get to define that and again, you get into all of this clean, green, renewable, sustainable, wind and solar. It is anything but for a whole lot of reasons and we can get into that in a little bit because it's not clean or green or renewable or sustainable on any level.
Well, you're right. If we did go back a couple of hundred years, we have to say, well, we have ten times the population of 200 years ago. So sure, maybe you could support 40 million Americans with wind and solar in a sort of poor way. And old-style agriculture, don't forget that. Yeah, that's right. So then the question becomes, well, then what would happen if you have a population of 400 million and you try to run it the way we ran society when there was only 40 million, I suspect there would be mass starvation. Well, the Russians and the Chinese Communist proved that. They took away the wherewithal to plant and grow in harvest food. They took away the options to import it and they killed overall 100 million people. In just a few years when we talk about Hitler, but they were far worse than Hitler. You add up all the deaths from World War II and it's still a fraction of the deaths under Stalin, Lenin, Pol Pot, Mao.
Mao is really the worst. Mao especially, yeah. Mao the greatest. All the time. Was it Piker that came, gave a speech a few weeks back wearing a Mao suit? Yeah, biggest slaughters and butchers of all time. Yeah, part of the way he controlled the country was literally starving complete regions until they complied until they complied. So let's go on to your next, how dare you. So how dare you claim plant fertilizing, planet greening, life sustaining carbon dioxide from fuels, manufacturing and agriculture, somehow endangers our human health and welfare. Carbon dioxide is the key to our human health and welfare. It as I just said, it helps plants grow better, faster and with less water. The more carbon dioxide we have in the air, the better they grow. And whether it's wildlife habitat, land, grassland, forestland, or it's the crops and even just the flowers and things in our flower beds, but our berries, our corn, our wheat, everything grows better with more carbon dioxide and a little bit more warmth in the air.
So you take that stuff away with all these fear, this fear mongering and we go back to what carbon dioxide levels were shortly after the last ice age. We would again, first of all, and, and suppose in the same fell swoop at carbon dioxide really does play any kind of role in planet warming. Suppose we take it out of the atmosphere and the earth cools a degree or two we're going to have far smaller, arable lands, Canada wouldn't be able to grow much of anything, including wheat or canola. We would have far shorter growing seasons. And again, we're right back to where we were just talking about it. Take things away, deprive people of exports and imports and millions, hundreds of millions will die, billions will die from that because the planet will die. Because the planet will not be able to support the number of people we have today. And of course, even Jacques Cousteau was saying 30 years, 40 years ago, that as terrible as it is to say it, he said, we have to find a way to get rid of 350 million people a day.
Oh my God. And so this is an empty populations way back when now it's closer to 500 million people of a day that we have to get rid of in order to have a Jacques Cousteau sustainable planet. Yeah, you have some limited number of people, maybe 500 million left. Yeah, well, it's interesting. J. Lair who was my co-host until sadly he passed away a couple years ago. He said that we have conquered the population explosion. And that the forecast of 12 billion are no longer going to be even remotely feasible. He says he used to say what we're going to be capping around 9 billion and that the earth is plenty capable of supporting that number of people. I mean, do you agree with that? As long as we continue with the modern technologies we have instead of destroying them. But that's good news in the media doesn't like to give us good news. Absolutely. It is absolutely good news. And the biggest problem we'll face in the future is what Japan and China and other countries are already facing, which is not enough people working and growing things, manufacturing things to support the far larger populations that are in those countries now.
And we're seeing this happen further and further across the globe who are retired or too young to work and they're living longer. They expect nice things in their retirement. And the money is not going to be there because not enough people are putting money into social security or are there a retirement programs, government programs. They're not growing enough, they're not manufacturing enough, not developing enough energy and so forth on and on and on and on. And the problem we will have in the future is too few people. Well, I'm going to have to be told, well, you know, you're 70 years old, five more years you can retire. And then you got to be out there working, earning money and we're going to tax you and hit you with bigger and bigger social security payments, for example. It's untenable. Nobody in politics, nobody in power, nobody in these radical groups has any desire to address that stuff. I don't have a solution, Tom.
Yeah. Well, we need to have more children and the families that have enough money and welfare to actually educate their children so they can work to solve the problem. But what we're finding actually in Canada anyways is the average woman, the average, you know, native Canadian person is born here. They're only getting something like 1.2 children per woman and you have these other countries which are very poor and cannot educate their children properly. They're averaging like four or five children per woman. I mean, I think part of the problem is that people that are well educated are not having enough children. And you know, in Europe, it's interesting because they're raising their retirement age more and more and more and more. They've raised, for example, in Germany, I believe it is, 67 now, it's said, 65 and the excuse they have is the same as what you're saying. But the target is to make the retirement age 70. And so here you are, you start your career. They say that people starting their career now in much of Europe will not have retirement until 70.
And you know, so I mean, that's okay in a way because they understand that from the beginning of their career. But for people that are approaching retirement, suddenly the government says, okay, you can't retire when you've been paying into the system for 40 years. You can't retire for two extra years. So I mean, they're really getting cheated, aren't they? Yeah, absolutely. I mean, I love this example. Navy SEAL training. They are sent out there day after day to run five miles and they see the finish line up ahead. And then one day and they really do this, all of a sudden they hit the finish line and they're told you got two more miles to go. Oh, yeah. And if you're a Navy SEAL, you can dig down deep and you can make yourself go that extra two miles. How many people in the woke generations are able to do something like that much less try to live and work another couple of years? There are two other problems here.
One is the educational system is set up in a way that the longer you're in the quote, quote, quote educational system into college and graduate school. The more your spoon fed all this garbage about global warming and sustainability from the left wing perspective and on and on and on. And people out of high school into the working classes, they understand how the world really works. They're not in some ivory tower somewhere. They are actually doing it. And when you look out there in Europe, it's not just they're raising the retirement age. Well, bully. But you are not allowed to work more than 40 hours a week or now maybe 35. And if you do your boss gets fined. Yeah. And you're allowed to hold two jobs because other people need that other job, even though they don't really want that job and they're living on welfare. There's another component of this that I would bring up and that is the people having the most kids in Europe.
And maybe it's also true here in this country. Let me jump backward. What is the most popular new child's boys, new boys name in Britain and Ireland? Probably Ahmed or something. Well, Ahmed. Well, Ahmed. Okay. So they're the ones having all the joke. And that's not a joke. So the Islamists are the ones who are having the most kids. They come in illegally or they get swept in by idiots like Paris in Spain. Open our gates, open our borders like Bob. Oh, lovely. But in Europe, it's a massive problem. And they're reaching five to ten and more percent of the population and they are in your face. They demand what they want. They intend to take over on the cultural themes and the religious and shut everybody down on that. Who knows where they'll stand in terms of energy development or anything that sustains a modern lifestyle.
But this is another problem. So Europe's going to raise the retirement age to 70 and they don't want to touch any of these other issues. Here in Ottawa, Canada, we have 10 percent Muslim. Okay, and I have a friend who's Muslim. So I have nothing against them in particular. But the thing I find different though about these immigrants is unlike Chinese or Indians or others who generally speaking assimilate into our society and they get ahead by getting degrees and doing hard work. Islamists at least their leaders want to change our society. And I'm concerned about that because especially in England, they were interviewing on a number of these television shows, some of these Sharia police who have a foot patrol around different London cities or different bridge cities. And they're saying point blank. They want Sharia law in the UK. You know, the thing that they said in that sentence, they told the lady reporter and you should cover your hair. So this to me is what's very different about this kind of immigrant is that they want to change our society.
And I was told recently that part of the faith of Islam is that when you move to a new nation that's not Islamic, your responsibility is to try to change it to be Islamic. And I think we have to be very careful about this because you know, there's an example in Dearborn, Michigan. I don't know if you heard about this where they have a majority Muslim population, a 53% and they elected all Muslim counselors and a Muslim mayor and they were going to name a street after somebody who had said very strongly that he supported Hamas. And they had a public meeting in which a white pastor got to the microphone and said, look, I don't want my streets named after Hamas supporters. And the mayor said, and this was reported in the Detroit free press and in quite a few other media, you are the minority in the country in the city. Now, you know, I'll hold a parade today. You leave. So the trouble is when these groups are in the minority, they expect us to respect their rights. And that's fine. I understand that.
But when they're in majority, will they? If you look at it, it's interesting because I interviewed Joseph Ben-Amy who worked with Ben-A Brith. And he pointed out to me that in the Middle East, you have Palestinians, a lot of them in Israel, even in the Israeli defense force fighting for Israel. He said, you have virtually no Jews in these Arabic countries because while they publicize the, you know, the takeover of the Palestinian area, which was also a Jewish area, if you look at history and you know this far better than I do, they also expelled Jews from most of these Arab countries. So there's virtually none in the Arab countries. So I don't know. I'm not at all happy about the idea of them becoming the majority the way they are in Dearborn. What do you think about what do you think about that? Are they going to be tolerant? Are they going to be tolerant of alternative points of view? Let me start back with my future son-in-law who's essentially my son-in-law already. He is part of the Hazara community of Afghanistan. It is a Shiite minority and they have been persecuted forever because they aren't the mainstream of Shi'a or Sunni.
60% of the Hazaras were murdered in 1888 to 1892. They have never recovered from that any more than the Jews have recovered from the European Holocaust. So there are, and these people strongly believe in equality of the sexes, women being in the workforce, women getting their degrees, women being part of the family and not just subjugated to the husband. It's a totally different mindset from what you're dealing with with ISIS and what you have in Iran and so forth across much of the Middle East. And then let me jump to another aspect of this. Jews being driven out. There is one Jew left in Afghanistan. There are pockets of Jews in other places just as there's pockets of Jews in some Romanian cities that used to have thousands or Germans all the way across Europe.
And a lot of the Jews were driven out in 1948. You hear all this about 700,000 Palestinians lost their homes. Most of them were told by their Arab sponsors and piles. We're going to slaughter the Jews and we're going to drive them back into the sea and you can come back to your homes in a few weeks, the war will be over. We're going to take Israel over. And it didn't work out that way. So many of those people, they were allowed to come back if they wanted to. Most of them didn't and most of the ones that didn't right away ended up in refugee camps because no Arab country would take them. That's important. Trouble makers and they didn't want. They had a huge number of them in Jordan. First thing they did a year after they took a fair amount of power. They tried to assassinate the king. So can you say that type of Muslim again, please? Because it sounds like there's a huge difference between them and the Sunnis, for example.
And the Shiites for the most part. Yeah, Hazara, H.A.R.A. H.A. said Z.A.R.A. Okay. So in other words, they will integrate and become. It's amazing. My son and my son and laws got in his degree as bachelor's and as masters in civil engineering, his physicians assistant, another one's going to law school. They're all really hard working. And they contribute to the society. Two of his brothers are ones engaged ones just still dating Christian girls. The family is just amazing, wonderful family. And I really like all of them. I treasure my son and law. But you get to these other places. The minorities have never had equal rights. They are dimmy. If they want to stay there, they subjugate themselves and they pay big taxes to the ruling classes. And if they get out of line at all, they get killed just like 100 killings of a child, a woman who decides she wants to marry a Christian or something like that outside their tribe.
If that's the parents or the brothers feel offended, they just go and murder her. This is real. Yeah, this is really important. Back up again. So we have to go after go for break. You got to hold that slot. Okay. Hold that thought we'll bring it right back after the break. So this is Paul Grayson. I guess today stay tuned. We got some interesting stuff ahead. That's for sure. Successful weight loss is about changing the gut brain relationship with food. I'm Dr. Kelly Victory with the wellness company. If you don't like needles, you'll love oral dissolving, Terzepetide RX. This doctor design solution works by targeting the GLP1 and GIP receptors that influence appetite and metabolism. Terzepetide helps with food portion reduction and satiety while changing how the brain responds to engineered sugars and unhealthy fats. America out loud loud.news is the antidote to these poisonisms. America out loud.news is that place to awaken your heart, soul and mind to the out loud truth. So I'm back with Paul Drieson, senior policy analyst for committee for a constructive tomorrow or cfacad.org. So Paul, continue your thought. You're talking about 700,000 something around there. And this is very interesting, a little different from the fact. Yeah, so 700,000 Palestinians, many of them willingly, but under misperceptions about how the 1948 war against Israel was going to go because the Egyptians, the Georgians, the Syrians, the Lebanese, they were all ganging up on Israel and the chances of Israel winning that war were slim to none. So it didn't work out for the Arabs and they lost the war, but in the wake of that war, over 800,000 Jews were driven out of Arab and other Muslim lands from Morocco all the way through Afghanistan.
And there are very few pockets here and there left. So instead of 700,000 stateless Palestinians that were rejected by every Arab country because they wanted to have a political statement and a political pawn to play against Israel in the UN forever and ever. And there are still tons of them in basically refugee camps and not welcome anywhere. You had 800,000 Jews who left their countries because they were driven out and some of them had been there a thousand 2000 years. So it's not like they had just arrived. The colonialists were the Arabs that came across out of Saudi Arabia and conquered all those lands by bloods, blood and violence, rape, slaughter, killing off thousands of communities as they went around and then forced, uh, convert forcefully converting the ones they didn't kill.
But bottom line is those 800,000 Jews went someplace. They didn't become refugees. They were refugees for a few months, a year, a big portion of them ended up in Israel. Others went to the United States. They went to South America. They went to Europe, some even to South Africa, other parts of Africa to Asia. But they were not stateless for very long. And the attitudes and the treatment at the Arab side as to the Palestinians, their key desire is to drive out the Jews first. And then the Christians, then the Jews, then the Bahá'í. So, the Jews, all these people who have made a home in Israel, when you hear from the river to the sea, that means no Jews, no non-Muslims, from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea. When you hear globalizing in Tafada, that means slaughter the Jews, the Christians and everybody else.
It's sad our media don't really mention this. I mean, there's a huge amount of anti-Semitism or pro-Suni and the other kinds of Muslims in our press. And I don't think they really understand what they're talking about. I mean, in Ontario, for example, there was actually a proposal to have Sharia law in part of the province. That was our premier, premier Dalton McGinty, he was going to accept that. And you know, the person who spoke out against it strongest and led the campaign against it, and actually won, she was a Somali Muslim. She said, look, I lived under Sharia law. The last thing I want to have is happened here. So, I mean, those people who actually have experienced it firsthand, experienced the prejudice against Jews, et cetera, they don't want it. So, I mean, what the heck is going on with this anti-Semitism? You know, I'll ask you one quick question, because this is totally off-tropic, but you're a good person to ask because you seem to know a lot about it. They did an assessment of what country had the most anti-Semitic incidents in the Western world. It's Canada. Canada has huge anti-Semitism.
Now, what's going on? I mean, is it our massive immigration of intolerant people like what's going on? That's an incredibly good question, and I don't have an answer because you start with France and Germany and Ireland and England. For example, the anti-Semitism runs rampant even today. Germany probably less than those other countries I just mentioned. You look at Australia, Bondi Beach. The police were sort of there, but they didn't even bother responding for a long time until one Arab guy, an immigrant, took down one of the gunmen, and they managed to shoot the other guy. Oh, wow. It's crazy. Explaining anti-Semitism is really difficult. It goes back thousands of years. The Romans hated the Jews. A lot of other people did. The Romans destroyed Jerusalem in 70 AD and put down another revolt a few years later, and at that point just chased 95% of the Jews out of Israel, out of what was then, as they called it, Syria, Palestine.
Because the Palestinians or the Palestinians in Latin were the dire enemy of the Jews, of the Israelites, way back in history. So that's where that name comes from. I don't want to dwell on this, but it's a fascinating topic, and I have written about this multiple times. You can find all those articles I've written on the regional history and politics and the mass and so forth on town hall.com under my name is a columnist. Yeah, you know, I just just end off with one quick statement on that. I suspect that a lot of it is envy. And the reason I say that is because, you know, within the Jewish culture, learning has a extremely high priority, even into old age. You know, I spoke at a Jewish nursing home here in Ottawa. And these were people who physically were quite disabled, you know, but they understood my presentation perfectly. And I was speaking to the coordinator afterwards and she said, well, you know, they're always in our library. So I mean, and as a consequence, you know, we see huge numbers of Jewish people with Nobel prizes and the sciences, et cetera. Einstein.
I mean, you know, the most famous scientists of all time, you know, so I think a lot of its envy that they're so successful. Is that possibly part of it? Oh, absolutely is. And there's some funny aspects of that because back in medieval feudal times and beyond, if you went to Germany, I'm just throwing names out. If you were in Germany, you couldn't be a goldsmith. You could be a carpenter, but you could not be a gold or silversmith. If you were in, we mean if you were Jewish, yeah, if you were Jewish, if you were in France, you could be a carpenter, but you couldn't be a goldsmith. And then periodically, what happened was the Jews became very good in things that they could take with them in their head and in a satchel. Oh, yeah. When they were driven out of places, which happened on a very frequent basis from the crusades and beyond the authorities let them take what they could put in a suitcase.
I mean, some of their gold and some of their precious menoras and things that are symbols of their faith, some clothing and maybe their medical kit. So they became very good in law, politics, things that are intellectual medicine, economics, banking, things that they could just they knew how to make things happen. They became excellent merchants because they understood the trades of goods. So there is that whole part of it, but wherever they went, they said, okay, we've been kicked out. Now we are here. Now we are going to make the best of the situation we have. We are going to succeed here. Our children will be educated in Hebrew and Yiddish and whatever language was the native tongue, they will learn the trades at the areas, all these various skill sets that they could learn and take a must of what they learned in their hands, in their heads, even if it was goldsmithing.
So there are a few tools and the knowledge of how to do it and you could set up shops on place else. So there's the ultimate survivors, that's for sure. On the other hand, the Arab attitude is once this is Muslim territory, it will always be Muslim territory. We do not surrender our title to the lands we have conquered. And if people are driven out, the most important thing is to drive out the people that drove them out. And once we've done that, we subjugate everybody in the lands we are now in. We have so much to cover that we have to change topics unfortunately. I'm wondering, you know, since we're only going to scratch the surface for the topics for this week, would you come back next week or the week after or soon be happy to let me just add one other thing in this to this. Yeah, red a tonberg did her bit on climate change and all of a sudden she's a Hamas supporter has bought us a word.
What's going on there? Yeah, I was the intifada and she is she's still outsoft from time to time about climate change, but she's just decided to take sides on behalf of the Arabs, the Palestinians, so called who never had a country. They were never an independent entity. They were under the Byzantine Empire, they were under the Turkish Empire. They were not in a Roman, everything else. All the way to Roman times, they never had a separate entity country or religion or anything like that. The Jews have been in that area 3,500 years. Uh-huh. And the point that you made in Joseph made the same point is that the countries they have gone into have not done very well with them, you know, like trying to assassinate the king of Jordan and say, you're a right way to make yourself welcome in a new country, a trying kill the king, trying kill the king.
In black October, you hear about black October, that's when the Jordanian government wiped out thousands of Palestinians. Oh, is that right? We are done with you people. You are not going to be having any major role in our country again. Yeah, nobody ever talks about the thousands and thousands of Palestinians that were massacred during that time and that they were not just the warriors, the soldiers, so called that were trying to overthrow the Jordanian government. It was families and beyond and beyond. Well, that kind of genocide never undermined it. Yeah, you know, it's sad because with so often, you know, it's so often the case that you may meet a Palestinian, they might be a very nice person, but they can't seem to control the more violent elements of their population. So I mean, if you, as I say, if you looked at the average Palestinian and you were speaking to him right now or her, you'd probably find they're perfectly nice person, but there's a high fraction of people that are not within the group.
Somehow, somehow they're on. In fact, that's in that's the case in general in the Arab world that they're not able, they're not able to control the crazies within their population. And they just such a shame, such a shame. And a lot of them don't want to control the crazies because that keeps them in power. And there's that you have to have these other enemies beyond your border, the United States, Israel and a few other places. But beyond that, you've got a problem with 75% of the gazon population still supporting what Hamas did on October 7th three years ago. They want Hamas in power and their goal and Hamas's charter as an organization says the Jews must be gone. Israel must be wiped out. River to the sea. None of them can be left behind. And after we get the Saturday people, then we go for the Sunday people. Yeah, yeah, what a shame. Anyway, just stand off today's. Yeah, it's a very interesting topic. That's for sure. And I'm sure our listeners are probably glad that we.
Bridge to something a little different, but now I'd like to end off with talking about what's going on in California because sadly, I mean California, the golden state, you know, I went there in 1981 and I stayed for a summer in San Diego. It was wonderful, but things are different now in California. I understand. So what's going on in the golden state? Are they following sunberg's rents? Well, they predate toonberg by decades in terms of climate obsession and their hatred of fossil fuels. Most of this stuff stop oil and so forth began in California and spread elsewhere. But here they've gone over the last bunch of years, decades, shutting down oil and gas drilling and production, shutting down refineries, closing all the coal, power plants, the gas, power plants, the nuclear power plants, and even some of the hydroelectric plants, they have just shut them all down.
And now surprise, surprise, they have the highest electricity and gasoline prices in the continental United States. Oh, and there's a, it's because they're trying to force feed everybody on wind and solar and batteries and they've had massive battery fires, not just in testless or other electric vehicles, but in these grid system battery complexes in San Francisco area, massive fires that they cannot put out. They just have to let them burn out pretty much. And all of a sudden here comes, I guess it's a transportation department of California and they're going to help motorists shave a few cents per gallon off their gas, a lean prices. And how are they going to do that? They're going to mandate tire efficiency. Allow the sale only of tires that glide across the roads with the least resistance. So all season 65,000 mile US tires have to be replaced by European style tires that get less than half that mileage.
It means you're going to double your costs of replacing tires because you have to replace them twice as often and they all have to come from Europe. And then because these glide faster and smoother more efficiently on road surfaces, that means when the roads are slippery, they're going to glide even more efficiently, meaning you're stopping time in a sudden traffic jam or accident is going to double basically. Oh, wow. The car is going to go slamming into other cars. So you're going to have more accidents, more injuries, more paralysis, more amputated limbs and more dead people on the highways and roadways of California because the kind bureaucrats having created this gasoline price problem and access. Oh, that's right. I'm going to help you a little bit by forcing you to buy these special tires. Yeah. It's hilarious in a sad way.
Ironic is probably more like it that they're causing through their policies of getting rid of solid dependable inexpensive energy sources. They're causing the price of gasoline to be much higher. And then they respond by bringing in these use, you know, very poor tires from home. And Tom, here's the other part of that. They will never admit that they were wrong about climate change, about ending fossil fuel use shutting down nuclear cold gas, hydroelectric power plants. And all they have is an answer is more regulations on something else because they want their power. They want their control. They want their nice annual salaries, their pensions and so forth. And they're not going to give the story saps that just want to live and work basic jobs and so forth or go on a vacation, fly or drive on a vacation. They're not going to give any of those people an even break. So you are and you've got these insane policies and all they've got as an answer is some other insane policies.
Yeah, well, of course, they're stopping climate change. Oh my God, you know, I haven't cousin that lives in Mill Valley, North of San Francisco. And he's a big guy, you know, I'm six foot. He's a little bigger than me. And he says there's now parts of San Francisco that he won't go in by himself. And I get the impression that the California I knew in 1981, you know, with you know, our old Swartz and Hager on the beach and all that, that California is a part of history now. It's not the way it is now. I mean, is it true that across California, we're seeing the consequences of these crazy policies is really not the 1981 California I knew. Well, it absolutely isn't. And basically you can call California has got one of the biggest economies in the world, bigger than 80, 90% of all the countries in the world, because it's so powerful and so endowed in natural resources, many of which they don't even want to touch anymore. But you have a basically a failed state. If you call California a state as a nation rather than as a state of the United States, they are a failed failed state that I know how they're going to climb out of this.
I'm hoping they're going to have a Republican governor for the first time since Schwarzenegger. Yeah, who was who didn't really behavior as a Republican did he? I mean, he actually started on. He was the he was the origin of the craziest climate stuff. You know, we have to end now, Paul, unfortunately, is lots more I want to talk with you. Can you come on next week? Sure. Yeah, because we got lots more discuss you know this regional greenhouse gas initiative, you know, all sorts of neat things are neat in a negative way. We've got to talk about that. So my guest today is being Paul Dreson, senior policy analyst for the committee for constructive tomorrow. You can check it out at cfact.org and the article about the Greta Thunberg, you know, rant and how it's in fact it's being turned on his head by Paul and showing how she's the one that is actually damaging the children. That's on the cfact.org website. Also, you should check out the town hall website because Paul has written quite a lot on this situation in the Middle East and anti-Semitism and all that sort of thing. So that I mean is extremely interesting. So thanks for being my guest today, Paul.
Thanks for having me, Tom. And I'll mention that my articles on town hall go back about 20 years. Oh, so cover all kinds of topics, fascinating issues. And they also get my book still eco imperialism green power back black death. So we'll talk about all that next week. Yeah, especially your book because that is a real heavyweight. That is an important book. Okay, thanks, Paul. This is Tom Harris in my guest Paul Grayson signing out from the other side of the story.
