How to Build Teams That Actually Flourish (with Daniel Coyle)

About this episode

While the podcast team is taking a Radical Sabbatical, Kim is interviewing authors of the books that have had a big impact on her in the past two years. In this episode, she’s speaking with Daniel Coyle about his new book, Flourish, The Art of Building Meaning, Joy and Fulfillment.  What is a meaningful life, and how do we make one? How do certain communities foster closeness, fulfillment, happiness, and energy?  Daniel Coyle has spent the last few years trying to crack this code.  He talks about the transformation that happened during the famous story of the 33 miners trapped 2000 feet underground in a mine in Chile.  It turns that the key to survival was a leader who was willing to let go of control.  You can’t command and control your way to flourishing--or surviving in a crisis.  Background on Daniel Coyle: Daniel is the New York Times bestselling author of The Culture Code, which was named Best Business Book of the Year by Bloomberg, BookPal, and Business Insider. Coyle has served as an advisor to many high-performing organizations, including the Navy SEALs, Microsoft, Google, and the Cleveland Guardians. His other books include The Talent Code, The Secret Race, The Little Book of Talent, and Hardball: A Season in the Projects, which was made into a movie starring Keanu Reeves. Coyle was raised in Anchorage, Alaska, and now lives in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, during the school year and in Homer, Alaska, during the summer with his wife, Jenny, and their four children.
