Former Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback, Darius Slay, has retired from the NFL after a 13-year

career.

The 35-year-old veteran earns six pro-bowl nods with a Detroit Lions and won a Super Bowl

ring with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Slay joined the Steelers this year to bolster the secondary and mentor young talent.

He spent time helping players like Joey Porter Jr. develop into a top cornerback, while

also guiding Corey Trice Jr., Dante Kent and Brandon.

His presence even rubbed off on fellow veterans quickly.

Safety to Sean Elliott, who played just five games alongside him, praised Slay as one

of the realists in the league after the retirement news broke.

Slay's time in Pittsburgh fell short of expectations, though.

Injuries piled up, and he got benched in favor of James Pierre before the team released

him midseason.

In his emotional social media announcement, Slay thanked football for bringing joy, supporting

his family and fulfilling dreams from his days as a kid in Brunswick, Georgia.

Now he's turning the page to a new chapter.
