one overall draft pick.

year.

Fans and analysts are split on this approach.

Some argue for tanking to grab another top prospect, especially since the Devils already

have two number one picks and four top 10 selections from recent years.

But Hughes and others see value in ending strong to carry momentum forward.

Teams like the Philadelphia Flyers are doing the same, going seven wins, two losses, and

one tie in their last 10 games, despite being 11th in the east.

They've rebuilt with high picks before and now prioritize culture over lottery odds.

Look at the Columbus Blue Jackets as an example.

A year ago, they battled to the end from a similar spot, misplayoffs by three points,

but called it a success.
