Everyone in the YouTube chat, if you have some inbox questions for us,
you can drop those in Jason Gregor from the DFO run down in the Jason Gregor show.
In Edmonton is going to join us.
We're going to talk some oilers.
No more Leon drives it.
At least for the rest of the regular season out in Edmonton.
So we'll save that conversation for a little bit later on with Greg's.
But Hutz, let's kick things off.
And we're going to go to a couple different areas.
But let's start with last night.
Another win for the New York Islanders.
Back to back wins for them.
And the Eastern Conference is just so wildly competitive right now.
We spoke about this with Brent Wallace earlier in the week with the Senators team.
That's just scratching clawing.
They're getting points in nine of 10 games and not gaining ground.
That's something Patrick Waw talked about last night after the Islanders win.
He was asked about teams like Pittsburgh Columbus and Ottawa
who continue to pick up wins.
And he said, quote, I think they see us winning every night too.
That's the way it is.
And yeah, Hutz, you look at this Eastern Conference playoff picture.
No one's really losing hockey games.
No, and that's the biggest issue here too.
And that's why it is so important to keep pace.
And I remember being on a national pro-writers team that we were sitting in like 10th spot,
maybe two back my first year full season in NHL.
And we go like four and one.
And then you look at the standings, be like, we didn't even move.
Like it's insane how many teams just find ways to win.
And right now in the east, it seems like nobody wants to blink, right?
You look at Montreal picking up a big win last night.
The Islanders having their big win on St. Paddy's Day in Toronto.
It's always a big game in that market for a team that isn't done well.
But that being said, it's going to be a dogfight, right?
There's some games now when we're at 66.
Paddy and I were talking this pre-show kind of chat was,
it feels like there's some must-win hockey going on right now.
Like you can't wait until later in the year.
You can't wait till game 80.
Your desperation level needs to be ultra high right now,
because the competitiveness of this division and this conference and where it's at
is going to be, I think, come right down to the wire.
Yeah, and I think you're seeing that a little bit with the Islanders.
I mean, I mean, he's probably going to get close to every single start down the stretch.
He's been absolutely unbelievable for this Islanders team.
He already has six shutouts.
He's the odds on favorite to win the Besnitrophy this year.
Like a 914 save percentage in a season where league average is 896.
I think going into last night, that is absolutely remarkable.
And another guy who's always worth having a conversation about when you talk
Islanders is Matthew Schaefer.
And I think again, talking about just getting into that every game is big mode.
You're starting to see it in the way Patrick was using him.
Since the return from the Olympic break, he's fourth in time on ice per game in the NHL.
The only players averaging more time on ice per game since the return from the break.
Quinn Hughes, Zach Werenzky and Roman Josie.
Then it's Matthew Schaefer.
Like again, Patrick Waw, you can tell this Islanders team,
they're trying to click into that playoff mode here.
And Patrick Waw is coaching with all,
I'll even say a little bit of desperation.
Yeah, and he has to, right?
And again, I think probably going into this year,
if you were trying to draw a roadmap of what Matthew Schaevers,
rookie season looked like in the NHL,
I don't know if you would anyone would have predicted this or the fact that it's
got to the point where we need to flog him.
And he needs to play minutes and he needs to help us win.
But this feels like a team that kind of controls its own fate.
I don't know if it's possible.
But if you look through what their schedule is coming up,
you know, you have Pittsburgh once you got Ottawa twice, Montreal twice,
Carolina, you have some very important head-to-head matchups,
where if you can find ways to win in regulation and get those points,
you're setting yourself up to have really good success to be in the playoffs
and be a team that, you know, maybe can make a little bit of noise,
but they're holding on for dear life here.
And they are, like you look at their remaining games here,
and it's not, it's definitely not an easy schedule for the New York Islanders.
They still have to play, you know, a team like the Ottawa Senators twice on their schedule.
Those head-to-head games could very well determine
if you're going to make the playoffs or not.
The Islanders still have to play Carolina a couple more times this season.
They still play Montreal two more times.
Like, man, that's a gauntlet of a schedule in your final 14 games.
And that's kind of why, again, I love that they play with that passion and that desperation.
You see the way they celebrate goals.
Like they really have been playing for a while now.
Every game, like it's a playoff game, and Sorokin's good,
and I think they're coached well.
But I also think there are some concerning signs,
even in a stretch where they go 7-3-0 in 10 games.
You know, a lot of teams who aren't in the playoff mix,
they get a lot of A-plus performances from Ilyas Sorokin,
which again, the goalie is a part of the team.
I'm not trying to dismiss his contributions at all,
but if they don't get Vesna Calibre goal-tending,
what's going to happen to this team?
And there's also a key number that I kind of look at.
And it's win percentage by goal margin.
They're the second best team in the NHL when it comes to winning one goal games, Hots.
They have a 694 win percentage in one goal game.
Second in the league, look at how that drops when it gets to two goal games,
and then look at how that drops when it gets to three goal games.
They basically never win in blowout fashion.
If the game's not close, they lose way more often than not.
And what's really interesting when you look at these numbers too
is go back through previous seasons.
The teams who are usually close to the top in one goal games.
The next season, they're usually due for a pretty big fall off.
This is the top five from last season.
Toronto went from being one of the best one goal game teams last year.
Big fall off this year.
Winnipeg, top of the Central Division last year,
you lose a little bit of luck in those one goal games.
Crater, Florida, Crater, although other factors that play Ottawa,
lock of a playoff team at this point last year.
Now sitting there, fighting to get in.
Like Minnesota is the one, I guess, anomaly in this group.
But this is a trend that actually you can go back through other years and see,
like the teams were good in one goal games.
It's almost a little bit of a measure of luck
as much as it's a measure of being able to play tight hockey.
That's a great stat.
I didn't even know you're going to hit me with that this morning.
Usually you prep me a little bit for what's coming.
I appreciate that.
And then what I love about that too is like,
I wonder if you're an organization.
Do you take a stand back when you go into this free agency
and you go into next season and look at where you're at?
And for the team like the islanders,
like what they added,
they really make themselves that much better for the future, right?
It will be a reconstruction because Matt Schafer's very good.
Sierokin's good.
But like Bradenshens, better days are behind him, right?
These are some of the ads that you've got.
Now where do you build upon that?
And I mean, when you look at that team,
there was always that conversation.
I remember that last year with Toronto a ton.
And Winnipeg,
like, well, they just never really win in regulation.
Are they struggle just blowing out teams?
Like, how good can they really be?
And then you see that setback.
It is concerning.
I think if you are a New York Islanders fan,
but right now, I think you're trying to live in the moment.
You're trying to get some playoff hockey.
What I do love about their schedule is
their last four games are at home.
So it feels like they're going to have control of their destiny.
I think being at home is such an important factor.
In this time of year when the games are tighter,
it's everyone's playing for your life.
Having that home ice advantage at a rink, that will be rocking.
That's a fair point.
So if there's my little rant on the islanders yesterday,
I know I called the LA Kingsfords.
I won't go full F word on the New York Islanders,
but I think they might be on my watch list a little bit.
Another big story from last night,
40 goal, Cole, Cole Coffield with an OT winner for the Montreal Canadians.
And listen, it's a Habs team who's basically been in a playoff spot all year.
But again, the Columbus Bluejack,
it's only three points back of them.
The Habs have to play the Islanders a few times.
They play Tampa twice, Carolina twice.
Columbus tries like it's not a guarantee that the Habs get in,
which makes what Cole Coffield's done this season.
All the more impressive and all the more important.
And over time, winner, his fifth OT winner of the year
leads the entire NHL.
And Hots, this is a crazy stat.
He's the first Montreal Canadian in 32 years
to hit the 40 goal mark.
And that fan base was understandably going nuts for him last night.
Yeah, it was awesome to watch too.
And I love his composure in his interview after when they asked him,
you know, you hit 40, 50s next and he said, no, 41s next.
And I think he's living in the moment.
I think this is part of his growth as a player, right?
He has been able to do it every which way.
I think Martin St. Louis, if we look back at the transition
of what Cole Coffield has become,
this goal score, this dynamic player all around the rink,
I think Martin St. Louis has a big,
has a big fingerprint on Cole Coffield and what he's done.
Not to take away from his success,
but that being said,
having a player so close to the game,
barely removed from a smaller guy as your head coach,
I think it's been huge.
I think for Montreal, it's a lot of confidence, right?
Being able to see a player like him and then you play in those tight games,
you almost feel confident going over time when you have players like that.
You watch Hudson dancing around and over time,
Coffield.
And last night was one where it wasn't necessarily him that made the play.
He's just backdoor.
He's Johnny on the spot, but it's a good read.
And I think for Montreal,
if they can get a save here and there,
they're going to be a dangerous team.
Oh, well, that's definitely going to be the big part for them.
And obviously Jacob Fowler getting the crease last week
and kind of running with it a little bit here.
They win three, two yesterday.
So they do get the stops in that game last night.
And it was Dobish actually who put up a 929 just quickly on Coffield.
Again, 40 goals.
Just the second player this season in the NHL to hit that mark.
32 of his 40 coming at even strength as well.
He has nine game winners on the year.
The second on the halves is only three.
Like no one's doing a cool Coffield for MVP thing.
It's McKinnon.
It's Celebrini if the sharks get in.
It's maybe Kutcherov who's going to get a lot of votes.
Conor McDavid will scrape up a few as he always does.
But like the fact there's been no conversation about it.
Again, he wouldn't be one, two or three on on my ballot.
He might he might be four or five on my ballot.
When you look at the fact that again,
he scored at the rate he has and the gap between him
and the second highest goal score on this Habs team is so distant.
Like he has 16 more goals than any other player on that Canadian's team.
And it's a team that's needed offense to win
because of their goal-tending issues.
He has like a sneaky case to be on some MVP ballots.
Yeah, he could be two at 40 and see how this push goes down the stretch.
An interesting staff for me is with 353 games in his career play.
He's at 13 overtime goals.
The closest to that is Caprice Off who's got 388 and 14.
Everybody else on this list is in the 700s.
And then you talk about 1500s and where it goes.
So like where does this go in his career for his overtime success
and how big of a difference maker he is every single night.
And again, we circle back to this lots,
but like this contract structure of these younger players in Montreal,
like this is a good time to be a Habs fan because the future looks bright
and it looks like they're going to continue to be this dynamic team,
which tends to win in the NHL right now,
especially in the regular season.
If you can play this dynamic hockey,
you find ways to win hockey games.
All right, Hutz.
Let's catch you up on a few more things you missed over the last week.
While you've been gone,
I got a few filling the blank questions.
We look in the east where again, Ottawa Columbus,
they keep finding ways to win the islanders,
the penguins of one back-to-back games.
And then you look and Boston Detroit are just barely hanging on.
They're scraping up loser points.
It's keeping them somewhat in the mix,
but I think the big concern comes with the Detroit Red Wings.
So let me ask you,
they are out of a playoff spot right now.
If you sort by points percentage because if Columbus wins the game in hand,
though leapfrogum,
the Detroit Red Wings have a blank percent chance of missing the playoffs.
Oh jeez, that's a tricky question.
I think I'm going to go like 35 percent somewhere in the middle
because I'm not totally confident on the wings.
And again, I look back to,
I know Stevie Y didn't want a mortgages future
and he wanted to have the build that he wanted,
but they didn't really add anyone like,
like Falc said, edition, Peron,
I just think this team is concerning, right?
When you look at them and I think how good John Gibson has been,
like, you know, is the pixie dust going to rub off a little bit.
He's just a goalie that I think times when the game gets more traffic
and tighter and areas.
Similar corner, hella block where they're so patient
and let the game come to them.
But then sometimes in these chaotic games and playoffs
when there's more tips, more traffic,
you have to fight for that space.
It gets a little harder for a goalie
who kind of plays in slow motion.
So for the wings, it is concerning.
And if they miss this year, Ty,
like, like, is this, is this the leash?
Is it run out?
Like, where do they go from here?
Oh yeah.
I think it has a seventh hardest schedule
according to Tankathon down the stretch.
The only saving grace.
They, for some reason, still have to play the Philadelphia Flyers three times
in their final 14 games.
They better win those games, I guess,
because the rest of them are pretty tough.
Next one I got for you.
The Dallas stars continued their Red Hot Play while you were gone.
They've lost like once in regulation in the last basically two months now
that dates back to January 22nd.
But the Colorado avalanche still holds strong
at that number one spot in the West.
If the, I have the number one cup favorite.
Who's number two?
Is it Dallas Hudson?
Or would you go somewhere else?
You know what?
Okay.
I think on paper and the way this team is playing
without ropey hints, without meco rent.
And then, you know, you got to talk about the Dallas stars.
Now, good.
They are my concern if I'm actually trying to pick a cup favorite is
they got to run through the central gauntlet to try to get there.
So I'm going to go out and I'm going to go with Tampa Bay as the second best team.
Because I just think what the way the East is,
I do like Tampa Bay.
And I think they will peak at the right time because of veteran leadership.
And I do love the fact that Kutcheroff, Vasil Eski,
these players that are key pieces for them, how to big break too.
Like I feel like Vasil is going to be ready to rock.
He played well last night.
He wasn't really challenged, but that being said,
I think their leadership and this rest is going to peak well for them in the East
where it seems like it's anyone's to win.
And then one more for you before we get to Gregor because we're going to talk
oilers with him, the Pacific division still wide open with well anywhere from
13 to 15 games to go depending on the team.
77 points for Anaheim, 77 points for Edmonton, 76 points for Vegas.
They've all played different amounts of games,
but the winner of the Pacific division will be blank cuts.
Oh, I'm going to go with the Edmonton Oilers.
I still think that dynamic too.
I don't know about dry side of being out.
I think that's a factor of like next man up, right?
There's going to be more guys, you know, stepping up plain in a better role.
And I think they get to a point where hopefully they can find some ways to peak at the right time.
Something that I've never really had the factor of betting against Edmonton during this run of
these teams, but it is while looking at the standings when you talk about Anaheim Edmonton
and Vegas at 77 to 76 points would put them tied with Ottawa on the Eastern conference.
And I can't think back to remembering when there was a division that was this week
and a division so strong.
So it will be a bit of a dog fight.
And you look at the teams that are in there.
I guess it's just a team for me that I struggle with.
I don't know what they are or what they've become.
I think they're goal-tending has struggled so much.
And nothing that you're uncommon to an entity with the lack of goal-telling you've been getting.
Yep, that's fair.
Last night, it wasn't really the goal-tending that sunk the Golden Knights,
though, is Buffalo beat them up or beat them to nothing.
It was a tight, low scoring game.
But on that note, let's get out to the Pacific division.
Let's get out to Edmonton bringing our friend Jason Greger.

Greggs appreciate you popping on and giving us some time.
Let's start with the big story that is the Leon Dry Sidel injury.
It's been, I mean, listen, yesterday and the morning,
Nobblox said, hey, we'll have a better idea on his timeline by later on tonight
than its rest of the regular season.
Then Nobblox quote after the game,
I think kind of had Euler's fans feeling uneasy.
This morning, Bowman came out and said something I think more reassuring for Euler's fans.
What have you made of kind of the messaging around this Dry Sidel injury?
I don't have a problem with it.
I think people are reading into everything.
It's kind of stupid.
Like they complain in wine when Nobblox tries to give a timeline.
Then they complain in wine when he doesn't.
Like there's, you can't give exact timelines on a player.
They said he's out for the rest of the regular season.
They didn't say he was out for the playoffs.
They said he was out for the rest of the regular season.
So, you know what, no surgery,
Gordon Stan Bowman, he feels that, you know,
if everything goes to plan, you know,
that he would be, he could be ready for the playoffs,
which would be a big news.
Like Dry Sidel's, you know, up until missing last night,
had only missed 18 games in his career.
Like everybody knows how he played on basically one leg.
He's obviously got a high pain threshold.
And in fact, it doesn't need surgery.
It's just something you can heal.
I still think it's his left knee.
I know lots of people think it's a hit point
or it might be, but I think it's his left knee.
If you watch on the hit,
watch his left knee kind of buckle before the contact.
And, and then there's a contact.
And so that's, that's what I think it is.
So we'll see.
But, you know what, teams win without one good player.
You're not a good team if you can't win without.
Look at the Dallas stars.
Dallas stars just win.
14-0 and 1 and rancidant and Rupé Hens two
they're taught probably four players.
We're out for half of that.
So I think Emmington should be able to do it.
You know, obviously they're going to miss dry settle at times.
Like, you know, I say this somewhat facetiously.
But for one game, Newgen Hopkins replaced him as a one-timer.
But I'm not sure he's going to do it every game.
But on the power play, that is.
So, you know, it's good news.
The Otter still got the best player in the world.
The McDavid.
So, you know, if the Pittsburgh Penguins
can stay in the hunt without Sydney Crosby
for what's now three weeks,
there's no reason they haven't denoners camp.
No, and I'm with you there, Gregor.
I think of the fact, too, sometimes when, you know,
teams that I played on, you'd lose a guy.
It's almost like, instead of expecting dry settle,
get the job done for you.
Everyone else takes more accountability.
And that's where I think you grow as a team.
And I think this could be really good for the Edmontoners.
But who that they've added from the deadline
has been like a good fit so far.
Like, I saw Dickinson had a tough turn over last night
in the neutral zone.
Like, where are they at right now
with like developing this team to be like a wagon
and come playoff time to peak at the right time?
Well, actually, Dickinson's been really good.
Like he, you know what, that's a pass he probably could make.
You know, if he makes it, they're on an odd man,
rush the other way and it's kind of a rare turnover.
Him and Murphy have been like,
Conor Murphy's been excellent, I think, for defensively.
You know, he scores a goal.
I was like, it went a guy who doesn't score very often
gets fired up when he scores a goal and as the bench does.
So I think those two have done a very good job.
And on a lower level, Max Jones has given the orders way more
than Yan Mark was given them, right?
As far as production, you know, speed, he,
you know, he's a big body who can forecheck.
No, he doesn't kill penalties like Yan Mark,
but they've got enough penalty killers.
You know, they brought in Dickinson.
He's a really good penalty killer happening now that he's healthy.
If he stays healthy, he can kill penalties.
So, you know, probably lower is a little bit of the time
you have to see McDavid on the pk.
But Dickinson and Murphy, like I said it at the time.
I was kind of surprised the reaction from around the league of people.
Like, oh, you know, you're filling two glaring needs.
You know, a third line center spot when dry side is healthy
and a second pair right defense, which is what they desperately needed.
So I've liked it.
And I actually think they missed tie Emerson very quietly on their third pair.
I think he's, he's a better defenseman right now, more natural than, than
stash me.
And I think when he comes back, which probably will be till April,
that, that that's going to help them too.
So, you know, if you can get through the regular season,
and I heard you before I came on, you know,
I think Emerton has a good chance to win the division.
If they finish first and then you get dry subtle back,
like that's just a massive boost to your team.
Yeah, I think that's a great point.
You talked about Newgen Hopkins last night.
He stayed on the left side of that second line with Dickinson and Rosalovic.
Samansky, the rookie that they called up from Bakersfield signed from Germany in the summer.
He's down as that three C right now.
Actually, Adam Henryk was really good last night as well.
But do you think it's sustainable?
They got to go whatever it is.
14 games here without dry side.
I don't, is it sustainable to keep new John the Wing?
Or do you think eventually they got to run with McDavid Dickinson and new jaw
centering their own lines?
I think in certain matchups, you could.
And I really like Nob Locke's honesty where I said,
Hey, without Leon, we're probably going to match lines maybe more than I do on whole mice.
Because when you have those two lines and you could just run them out,
like you're not scared of anybody, right?
So, you know, now Florida comes in here.
They're really banged up.
I'm not sure that's a team, but Tampa Bay on Saturday night.
That's a team that when you have last change,
you'll probably look for some other matchups.
And if you noticed last night, like they did have Samansky,
you know, they switched up, you know, at times, different combinations.
Adam Henryk, that was, that was his best game in a while.
And actually, I'd actually think that that line him,
Frederick and Jones, really going back to the St. Louis game,
have been really good.
They've had some unlucky breaks.
Like even last night, like Henryk wins a draw cleanly.
And then Darnell Nurse for terrible angle,
and he fires the puck five feet over the net.
And then it bounces over Murphy.
Like when you want to draw that cleanly,
the puck shouldn't be a breakaway three seconds later, the other way.
Like, you know, so that's kind of an unlucky one for Henryk.
I really like this game.
Him, Frederick and Jones, it's a very simple,
straightforward line, but come playoff time, guys.
We see those guys who can just go up and down who can forecheck
and just do the same thing over and over, dump it in, hit you.
It becomes annoying for the opposition.
And Jones' speed really helps on that line.
Yeah. And I always think back to that Paul Maurice quote,
when he's yelling at his bench in Florida,
like talking about just hammering him, hammering him,
because it doesn't matter right now.
It matters in game seven.
It matters wearing him down.
And that's something I feel like dealing with these teams
as a goalie where constant heckle,
like being in your face hockey.
Now, now the transition, like,
Jari comes in, he's supposed to be the guy.
It hasn't gone well.
It's been ugly.
Ingram has kind of taken the crease over.
Like, is it sustainable?
Connor Ingram being your game one starter,
come playoff time?
Like he's, I think he's 501 in the month of March.
Numbers aren't great.
Body's finding ways to win hockey games.
And that's what matters.
Yeah, the orders usually don't give up a ton of shots.
So if you just look at say percentage,
it's never going to look great.
I don't think, you know,
goals saved above expected is probably a better stat to use for him.
I think Connor Ingram,
when the orders decide to play team defense,
which they have here, other than the Dallas game.
And, you know, sadly for Tristan Jari,
like it's funny against Colorado,
he came in relief and looked really good.
And you're like, hey, but then against Dallas,
the team was junk.
Now, I still think you should have made,
either the first or the third goal save.
So he's now you're back up.
And I'm, I'm one who, and well,
hey, Carter, you played the position.
It's, it's a tough position, man.
Outside of maybe top five or seven goalies from year to year,
we see guys like even Jacob Marx,
from will go from a 918 to an 898 back to a 917.
Like it seems to be difficult to,
to maintain it all the time.
So, you know, Can Ingram be the guy?
Probably, I don't see why not.
If, you know, the order schedule isn't
overbearing here at all.
Like it's actually really favorable.
Like they get every second day at home,
no travel, then they got two days off.
You got a short road trip,
then you come home again more two days off.
So I think you could, they'll have to get Jari in
at some point here.
And I think I'll probably be on that road trip
next week, one of those two games.
And I think he's just, he's got to start in practice.
Like I watched a practice last week.
And I talked about on my show and then,
I think some stories probably got overblown
on all the orders.
Don't like Jari.
I don't think that's the case.
Look, I know that it's only in practice.
But I'd never seen a goalie get beat.
That many shots in a row in practice in my life.
I was just like, what the hell's going on here?
Like guys are coming in boo.
And I, you know, some nice shots don't get me wrong.
But as a goalie, you're, I talk to some goalies,
like they hate getting scored on.
They're like, I'm here in practice.
I want to make some saves.
And it wasn't like, you know,
Deek, Deek, Deek, Deek to unhose.
I'm talking to those guys coming down the wing,
one on one and scoring from the top of the circle repeatedly.
So I do think Jari's probably going to have to iron out his game
in practice before you can rely on it.
What I, what I do things for you,
sure, know like, I guess my perspective of Jari.
And some I've dealt with because Gregor,
I've been that goalie in practice where it's like the,
you know, it looks like a pee and you can't save anything.
Then there's times where it's like, you know,
everything is just flowing.
It's so wild how between your ears is,
is so powerful when it comes to goal tending.
But I think for Jari, which hopefully will tend well,
is he's been through this before.
He's been shipped to the minors.
He's been written off and pitched and he's gone through it.
So if he, if there is an extended amount of time
where maybe you have that one to punch and Jari has a sit out for a bit,
hopefully he can bounce back.
And I think that's something that everyone in Edmonton is hoping for.
Well, I think that people in Edmonton, a lot of them,
because I was not one who was like,
Stu Skinner's terrible.
I'm Stu Skinner would have a few bad games.
But Stu Skinner is one of his best abilities
was he would bounce back and play great.
Like you look at last year.
So he gets pulled after the first two games.
Then he comes back in and dominates Vegas and Dallas and pitches three
shutouts and is playing great.
And he did it the year before.
And so I haven't seen that yet from Jari.
I thought the Colorado game was going to be a springboard.
I was like, he comes in and he actually looked really confident
in the third period I found.
He was, he was just how he was facing shots and making
saves, look control.
And I'm like, you know what?
Who knows?
Maybe it was just him had no time to think.
He comes in after Ingram gets ran over and Boone has got to play.
And he made a huge stop late in that second period.
In a close game.
And I was thinking, hey, that might be the turning point.
But then they went to Dallas and it wasn't.
So I think when he gets in, he doesn't have to be great.
Edmonton's figured out that, oh, you know what?
We actually do have to play defense.
It's not just goal 10 in.
And they've limited the high danger chances a lot.
They've changed their defensive structure a bit
to be a more packed house.
But more so, I just think they're effort.
They're blocking more shots.
They're backpressures better.
It makes goalies life easier.
All right.
Like Tristan Jari's not baseless skier,
Sirokin, who can just steal you a lot of games, right?
Like very few guys are.
So if you play a controlled environment,
I think he can be better.
But it is, I think, between his ears a little bit.
And Kevin Woodley, who I learned a lot about the goal
to any position, he has a checklist that he talked about.
And he goes, you know what?
I didn't go in deep in and he talked about,
okay, goalies who get traded first time.
You know, goalie, you know, gets traded to a new team.
Like all those things that add up to,
and I'm like, I go back to Dwayne Rollsson.
Last goalie that kind of got acquired by the orders and season.
He wasn't good until the playoffs, right?
It wasn't like his, he came in and all of a sudden
was f**k or save and two bad stats and playing great.
Like he wasn't good.
And then all of a sudden it was like six weeks later,
he got in the playoffs and he was on fire.
So we've seen this from goalies like, look at Aiden Hill.
Like who thought Aiden Hill was going to be any good
when they won the cup, right?
Like he came out of nowhere and he only got in
because per swap got hurt.
So I think Jari just needs to mentally get himself in a position
that he feels good about his game.
And when he comes in, if the team is playing better,
then maybe he can help.
Greg, I appreciate your time.
Thanks for popping on and I'll catch you on the next EFO rundown on Friday.
That's your boys. Have a good one.
EFO rundown with Gregor, Mike Rupp, Jeff Merrick.
Drops twice a week right here on the daily face of YouTube,
or wherever you get your podcasts from Hots.
Do you remember, do you ever think of like when Greg's is talking about
Jari getting lit up in practice?
Is there one that stands out to you
or you just like could not make a stop in practice?
Oh, man, I was not one.
And there's numerous times.
I remember, I remember one time a game that distinctly stands out for me
is we were playing Calgary at home in Buffalo
and I remember Andrew Allen was my goalie coach.
And I was like, Ali, like what the hell's going on with you, man?
I can't stop a beach ball.
I was brutal and then I played that night against the flames
and I ended up being unbelievable.
Even in warmups, I couldn't stop a beach ball.
It just goes to show you that it's like so fragile
and like when you get in a moment
and something that I even tell younger boys at this age
is there's only one puck in a hockey game.
Like there's one puck that's all you got to worry about
because sometimes in practice when you're the back up
or you're not playing, it's like flow drill shot, shot, shot.
So you never have a chance to really catch yourself
if you're struggling.
But man, you get to a game, anything can happen.
It just goes to show you man a little bit of self-talk
and convincing yourself you're good even when you know your shit.
I love that.
Oh, there was one.
That's what I wanted to ask you earlier about Matt Schaefer.
He had a quote and again, I know he's just,
he's just being a little bit, he's exaggerating a bit
but he said he's going to have a thousand people
in attendance for his first game in Toronto.
And I was like, God damn, hopefully he's not buying them all tickets.
Even if it's 100 people, did you ever have like a game
where like the requests were insane?
Or did you ever have a teammate who was like scrambling?
You're like, I got to get like 200 tickets for this game.
Yeah, there'd always be some times
where you would travel somewhere.
And that's always where the money on the board came up
but for local guys.
And for me, I think any time that I had lots of people,
I always think back to the winter classic.
I played in that winter classic and I had so many people.
So it was like, it would be an expensive tab for sure
and anything about those guys that live in Toronto
or major hubs your first game.
They're going to come out anywhere.
That was when I first got rid of Facebook
because I'd get reached like,
hey, I was in your 10th grade math class.
Can you get me tickets to a game?
I'd be like, yeah, no problems.
I mean, your credit card.
Then all of a sudden they could make the game.
That's a good way to reply to it.
Let's get to our daily bets for bet three six five.
There are a few things more stressful.
Then a close hockey game.
One late back check could make all the difference
between a chance at playoff glory
or an early spring T time.
That's why bet three six five
and official partner of the NHL
is offering the three goal early payout.
If the team you're riding goes up three goals
at any point in the game,
they'll pay your bet out early hockey fans.
Have enough things to stress about
with three goal early payout.
Now your bets don't have to be one
of them bet three six five download the app today.
Must be 19 or older.
Please play responsibly an X for me
missed on two shots by Matt barzel
and oh man, Pat, I cannot believe economy.
They had the net empty too and they couldn't get it done.
I was in theoryating.
I know, two points isn't even that crazy for McDavid,
but it was only plus two 50.
I was just happy that Buffalo won as an
other fan over Vegas and Seattle lost as well.
So I might have lost on the daily bets,
but I think we won in the standings last night.
You know what's great is I take a week off
and I caught ground on you patty.
This is perfect.
I might just can I just sit out moving forward and I might get the lead.
Yeah, picks for tonight.
I am going with two overs on tonight's
slight. The first one Devils Rangers Devils
have seen the over hit in three straight
and four of their last five.
It's Jonathan quick between the pipes,
not Igor Shesterken.
So I love this over and then ducks and flyers.
Ducks have been struggling to keep pucks
out of their net as of late as well.
Philly hasn't been on a great run as of late.
Like these two teams and their last 10 games
have just quite frankly been bleeding goals
against. So I have no problem here going
with two overs. What do you got, Pat?
Well, I was going to copy you for the over on New Jersey
and the Rangers, but I decided instead
I'm just going to pick New Jersey
over the Rangers on the money line.
And I'm going to take the under on Dallas
versus Colorado under six.
That is two big teams, two goal tenders
that are playing well.
And I just see this being a tight checking
low scoring game.
So plus two 66.
Hopefully I can get back on the board.
What about you?
That's
hurricanes, sends,
abs, all money line here.
I just think teams that need to win.
I think Colorado's got to flex a little bit
of its muscle tonight against Dallas.
They're coming off a loss,
but it should be a great game either way.
So I'm just taking three money lines here
plus 391 just to try to.
If I think if I win that,
I'm almost in the green.
So fingers crossed here.
And big swing there.
I'll wrap it up the show with a little bit
of garbage time.
There's a quote that popped up yesterday
that I think is kind of getting taken
in some weird ways.
But Jack Hughes basically saying
that he doesn't quite understand
why the puck from the golden goal
in the Olympics is in the hockey hall of fame.
He wants it.
He said he wants to give it to his dad.
I mean, it's a piece of hockey history.
Like this isn't an uncommon thing.
When a guy sets a record,
it's his gloves, it's his stick.
I think you can go back
to the golden goal Sydney Crosby scored.
And it's the net the stick.
I think the puck as well.
It is all sitting there in the hockey hall of fame.
I thought it was and maybe it's because
the hockey alfams in Toronto.
Maybe that's why he's feeling a certain type of way about it.
But I just felt like it was a bit of a weird thing
to bitch about to be like,
they took the puck away from me.
Yeah, man, I mean, you have your jersey.
You have your stick.
You have a whole bunch of shit
that you scored the golden goal with.
To me doing the winding of the puck
just because what hockey alfams in Toronto.
I felt like it was weird.
Yeah, I guess not.
I can't get see why he wants it.
But like it's not your puck at the end of the day.
Like it's you shot it in the net,
but still not your pocket.
And I think it goes like more,
it's better for the game if more people get to see it,
get to experience, get to be around it
and understand that that was the goal that wanted.
It's part of hockey history.
And I think that's something where Jack Hughes,
maybe that's immature.
You're just in the moment.
I think he's got to understand that.
It's not going anywhere.
It's still going to be there.
It reminds me.
So I actually got asked.
This is a funny segue here.
But when I was playing in the winter classic,
my helmet that I had made,
it was honoring the St. Louis Blues and the St. Louis Cardinals.
And the baseball hall of fame actually sent the blues a letter to me
if they wanted it for the baseball hall of fame.
And I opted to say no,
because I was like, well, if I give it up,
I'm never going to get it back.
And that's so I get the theory.
But mine was just a helmet that I personally
wore, not the puck that changed hockey future forever.
Yeah, that's a good point too.
Like again, if it was his jersey,
and he was like, no, no, it's like it's my jersey.
I want to keep it.
I'd get it a little bit more,
but probably small potatoes at the end of the day.
Tomorrow, Dave Penn Yoda is our guest.
He'll stop by.
We'll go around the NHL with him.
And we'll talk about what should be a good night in the NHL.
How many games on tap tonight?
I think it's another solid one.
Six games on tap in the NHL.
Penn's taking on the hurricane stars and abs.
So a couple of bangers tonight.
Everybody in the YouTube chat.
Enjoy your evening.
Enjoy the hockey.
And we'll see you right back here tomorrow at Noon Eastern.
