With the NHL today, March 15th, the Anaheim Ducks are pushing to sign defenseman John Carlson

to a contract extension after trading for him at the deadline.

At 36 years old, Carlson brings a wealth of experience from 17 seasons with the Washington

capitals, where he was a top performer.

He's on track for his best point total since 71 points in the 2021-22 season.

Carlson has been sidelined by a lower body injury since before the Olympic break, but

he's set to return soon against the Montreal Canadiens on March 15th.

General manager Pat Verbeek sees him as more than a short-term playoff edition and wants

to lock him in long-term.

Verbeek is a tough negotiator, as seen with players like Trevor Ziegres, but this deal

might hinge mostly on Carlson's interest in staying.

three months after acquiring him.
