Hello everybody and welcome to the P H L Y Eagles podcast on Thursday afternoon a football Thursday live from the Xfinity studio and presented by Ashley Bow Wolf, the great friend Duffy, the great E J Smith, the three headed monster of swooper, so we're casting is here. Hey, guys doing great. This is, you know what? This is it now. This is the start now the season has started prologue before now. Now we're in it dust off the abacus. Oh, yeah, I will have it by the time we get to swooper. Okay. I do it nearby. You know, I keep that thing on me. You're done. I'm strictly speaking. I do not. I'm doing great. You know, full
access at the no at the Jefferson health complex yesterday. I got a full notebook. You can see it right here. I'm excited. Yeah, I'm excited to talk some Eagles excited to talk about a football game that is imminent now. We are closing it. And so much of the, you know, Nick Cereonis, he won't he won't dare tell you who back of quarterback is because there's a game theory there's there's gamesmanship. All of that stuff. Who's going to be, you know, the third tight end, like what kind of stuff are they really going to do? No more lying on Sunday, we get the truth. The truth comes out. Yeah, you know, that what did Nate, what did Jalen hurts saying that GQ article, he said, Nick Sabin told him that your action speaks so loud. I can't hear you. That's what this Sunday is going to be. Yeah, the actions will speak so loud the obfuf's obfuf's obfufcation close obfufcation. I know you went the wrong direction obfufcation. Right? No. This is a bad start. Just do it so we can move on obfufcation obfufcation. There's no edge. You're throwing an S in there obfufcation.
Yes. Obfuf. Whatever you got there. All of it's going to be out the window. I want to use that word on a podcast ever again. Here's how I feel. You would think that, you know, you have so much time to prepare for week one that like week one is smooth. It's like when you get to week two that you get a little bit frenzied. I have not felt that to be the case. You know, we there was no show Monday. Got show Tuesday. Got BG on Wednesday. We got a throw in an extra show. We got all this. I'm with week one and my head is already swimming. I'm like, I, I, it's, I'm already caught off guard. I'm like, you know what? Bad job by me. But then I watched the press conferences. Yeah. Vic Fangeau looks like he just woke up off of like a two bottles of red bender last night. And you know, his hair is all over the place. Jaylin needs to touch up everybody. Everybody in that building is feeling the same thing. Like, oh, wait a second. We did it. We do not use the summer to prepare for week one. Now we're in week one and we are already in it.
Yes. We're all swimming. Yeah. I need I need to shape up to. So, you know, Jaylin's not the only one. We're the, you know, it's week one for everybody. I got the Friday morning cuts. Nice. I'm going to get a morning. We're ready to go for Sunday. All right. We got a lot to get to. We're going to talk about this match up. We are of course going to have super sore casting for you. A little bit of a little bit of a tweak to the format. Oh, super. That we're excited about. Just just moving things along a little bit. Yeah, we'll be quick. That's all. Yeah. But we got to start with the news because all of the availability of the Eagles facility yesterday was quite late. We have not talked to you since then, EJ. Give us the update as the stone cold newsman as it were. All right. We're going to try and go inverted pyramid here, like the most important things and things that are going to move the needle the most and then we're going to kind of filter it down into some stuff that maybe I find more interesting. But maybe he doesn't have as much of a bottom line impact on the on what things will look like on Sunday. The biggest thing is that Jonathan Grenard is back at practice. He was a limited participant. It's his first time at practice. You know, he missed all of training camp with the pectoral injury. Vic Fangio said a little bit earlier today that he's day to day. So it's a we'll see type situation on
if we'll play. My guess is a play. My guess is we won't play very much. I think I mean, I think he will be active. If I had to really I think it'll be active. I don't think he's going to play a lot limited on Wednesday. Hasn't practiced a single time. But he's the all summer. If he's if he's healthy, he's probably up. Oh, man. You think he's going to be an active. I feel like an active. I do. Okay. Well, I'd be my gut. Didn't they listen to Lenin Dickerson up on the podium this summer saying he rushed back too quickly. Yeah, but I don't know if that's I don't I don't know if that's the case with Jonathan Grenard. Of course not. So if he I mean, I if what I'm saying is that if he is up, he's not going to play very much. I think he will be in a rotation at the very at the at the most going into week. I mean, listen, I know that he is he's expected to be their top passfusher. But there's nobody else injured, right? Like there those other guys on the edge have looked good. You're playing against a bad offensive line. I would I would lean towards being cautious here. Yeah, it depends on how how how much the rushing back aspect
is a play here. If he is like 80%. Yeah, you're not going to play him. But if he's a full participant by the end of the week, he's a veteran player. I would expect them to have him up. But I could be wrong. I could be wrong. The other injury updates I have for you. Eli Stowers was a limited participant with a hamstring injury. But again, back from the injury. Yeah. And Mark Helbell was a full participant. And it was on field goal. Field goal, the protection unit. Okay. Field goal unit. So, you know, a full participant for him, I think is a big deal as he tried to figure out who's going to be up on game day. Okay. So you think Grenard is going to be up? I mean, yeah. I'd not say I would put 60 turkeys on it. I'm not saying I think for sure. Yeah. Not reporting these up. But no, I'm not reporting this. I think, yeah, we expect Eli Stowers will be down. I would be shocked. Yeah, especially when you go through the inactive. It's like, they got it. They got it. They have lots of injuries. A lot of guys. So, we're going to be in it. Do you think that Mark Helbell will be the like what offensive lineman do you think will be active? Who's going to be down? Mike Amoris will be down. Yes, is that they're going to go heavier at all. Oh, line. And probably borrow elsewhere. I actually
like struggled more like Ty Robinson, for example. Yeah. But I think Mark Helbell, honestly, I could see Fred being up to. It depends if you want to have the two tackles because none of the guys on the inside have the versatility to bump out. I think Willie Lamm can's going to be up. I really do. Okay. I think he's going to be up. And I think Drew Kendo will be up. So it's Mike Amoris. He'll be down. He don't you they it's extremely rare to carry four backs. So you think Drew Kendo's going to be down. I think we like I think Willie Lamm will be down. Yeah, I think okay. So Fred probably would be down if I had to guess. And if Fred is down, then he's the 53rd guy on the roster. We're close to it. Yeah. Yeah. Right. Yeah. Validates for us. Right. The real question now. Do you think they will elevate anybody? I think they'll elevate Britain. Covey. Okay. You think it will be Covey. Gabe Hall is the one that I'm not sure about. Gabe Hall. I can't I won't too much more into that. But I'm not sure. I I put 35 turkeys on it. Wow. Base off for me. Just something I can't explain right now. Yeah. Hmm. I've defensive. I put 90 turkeys on Covey getting elevated. I know that there was like some
discussion about McCye lemon being the punt returner. I think Covey will be the punt returner. We've seen this year's early years now. Yeah. Um, they they sorry about practice squad and they call him up to return punts. I think they just they trust him more back there than they will McCye lemon. I think they'll want him to get more reps. So yeah, I think that Covey will get elevated. Gabe Hall is the only other one on the practice. Yeah. And I promise that's not out of nowhere. I just I don't I can't talk about it. That was item number one. The injury update. What's item number two? I don't know. Number two. Sean Manion calling games from the booth. Hmm. Nick Seriani again. I like to dive old much. But at the end of his press conference, he's like, you know what? I'll tell you guys. I don't know how I can get a competitive advantage. I got to tell you he's going to be. I thought this was very funny by Nick. It was funny because he started like lie. He's like, you know, we're still working through that. We got some time to decide. He's like, actually, I don't really know why. He's like, you gave it a shot. I think it's I thought that was actually pretty funny. They're all my bone. I mean, I appreciate the the the the the forthcoming approach. Yeah. From Nick at the podium. Yeah. Sean Manion, obviously, experimented calling games from the booth
and from the sideline during the preseason. Set on the booth. Yeah. Wonder if he surprised himself with that. I will be excited to hear from him. And a few hours about that. My wonder is if Vic Fangio had any influence on it. Obviously, Vic is one of the best play callers in the NFL, not just offensive or defensive, just generally. And he calls games from the booth. I think he benefits from that vantage point. I think it makes sense from like a layman's perspective, like being able to see a lot more from that vantage point. The communication aspect with Jalen is the the catching point. If you're going to be up in the booth though. Yeah. I mean, I have never understood the the brainpower to be able to call a game. Like like what Mike McDonald does, right? To be the head coach. Yeah. And calling the game defensively given everything you have to think about and you're you're viewing it from the side. To me, that's like that is nuts. I'm so impressed by that. To me, I would yeah, you got so much to think about. I would want to be in this the sterile environment and not have, you know, Devon take him over and be like come get me the ball right now. Like, you know, like that's a yeah. But, you know, obviously there are
pluses of minuses. What are you smiling at? You're you're how much I love. Yeah, you love. I've loved him for years. You love Mike McDonald. That's not true. That is true. It's just not a new thing. It's just I've been proven right. Bear rewind the tape. I don't know. Go back, go back to the athletics power rankings, talking about Raven's defensive coordinator, Mike McDonald's going to become a great head coach. I think of like, you know, Bose Dubbirds from 2025. He was on the I think of yeah, who did the nominations? I could think of other people that came up more often than please. You love more. I'm starting to see for a Ryan's. A certain free agent wide receiver right now is coming off a big injury that is really fast. Mike McDonald or Demiko Rines. Oh, who do I think is a better coach or who is more handsome? Just who do you like more? It's all it makes all of that in. Demiko. Hard once what a once. Yeah. I'm not always thinking with my brain. Last thing I wanted to say about
Sean Mann and Colin Games from the box is Jalen Hertz. Yeah, interesting answer about this. Yeah, he he acknowledged that he hasn't experienced that. He hasn't had a play collar in offensive coordinator in the box since he was in college. And yeah, he had an interesting answer. I don't want to like do too much like Tlee, freeing with this because honestly, I'd like to like learn more about what he means. But he said he came into the season thinking about breaking down walls of communication and talked about the fact that with Sean Mann, you know, in the booth, there is a physical wall between him and Sean Mann gets communication. But he said it's part of the process. It's like, you know, it's going to be about picking up. He said the red phone, which I appreciated the the description there. You know, pick pick up the red phone and call on between series and, you know, talk about what he's seeing and, you know, what he is kind of like what's on his mind with the game plan. So yeah, he wasn't negative about it. But he did acknowledge that this is part of a big transition overall that he's been going through. He mentioned that, you know, Tuesdays in the past, he'd meet with Jeff Stoutland basically at the beginning of every game planning week.
And, you know, he's realizing how much of an evolution he has to go through with this whole new coaching staff. And he did acknowledge, like he said, I met with Stout. And then he later said, like, we've got great resources on the staff now that, you know, I'm sure we'll pick up on those things and, you know, pick up the where where the void was. But yeah, he acknowledged it's it's going to be a learning curve. He also talked about in conjunction with that, you know, he's always asked about his running. And it's just, you know, it's yeah, every every week he's going to be asked about this. And it's not always a topic that he embraces. But the one thing he said was a thing we've talked about is that this offense, traditionally does not really incorporate it has not usually had a quarterback with a running dynamic. And even the fact that he's vocalizing that is interesting to me. I don't know if that means, you know, oh, we're going to revolutionize it. And I'm going to lean into it. Or like it's a it's a getting ahead of the fact that, well, yeah, that's not just not what this offense does. I'm sure that it will change week to week. And I'm sure that it will be just a handful of plays every week that that swing this. But I just thought it was interesting that he mentioned
that. Yeah, it definitely is. I'm a little bit like scarred from last year hearing Jalen's answers about whether, you know, the lack of him running was something he wanted, something that coaching staff was pushing something else. So I'm just that's another one where it's like your actions will speak louder than your words. I'll be curious what it looks like. I know that that was a topic of conversation all throughout the spring is like how much of the stuff from the previous iterations of this offense that really worked well can fit in this new scheme. And I think it's fair to wonder. I think he's probably even wondering how much of that will carry over into this new system. Okay, what's item number three? All right, so this one might not actually have a tangible effect other than the inactive's list. There's still like real uncertainty about the back of quarter back spot. Like the number two quarterback Nick Sireani wouldn't say who it was. It's not just obfuscation. It is not just obfuscation. Obfuscation. It's a weird word. The check in fact, me have it's a weird word. It's definitely not just Nick Sireani not wanting to say for competitive advantage. We talked watching when we're not live comment below spell the words. See if you can get
it right. Well spelling it's different than saying it. There's not many words that are obf. That's that's just what it is. You know, anyway, we know the key of harvorn on this. So we heard from tandem key and any dog yesterday neither of them they both they're both like nice guys. I think that's the first thing that we should say and they're both like this isn't me like trying to hide this. This is me telling you like I don't know who the number two quarterback is. Like Andy Dalton said they're handling it the same way they did during camp. They don't know who's going to be up every day when the two go up. They make jokes about it. He said they joke like I'm maybe it'll be you today. Maybe it'll be me. I thought it was very telling the Andy Dalton said that they're in good spirits about it. Because that's what you would say if you're in good spirits about it. I think like this is astonine. They don't know they I can promise you I don't want to get into like too far into it, but I can promise you they do not know if jalen hurts, you know knock on wood Eagles fans like if jalen hurts gets injured on Sunday, they are not sure who it's going to be right now.
I got nothing. I mean, obviously this this it is ridiculous and it seems like like really one of the stupidest things that I can remember having covered this team for almost two decades. I'm trying to figure out why they're still doing this and I can't get there. What's the benefit? Just one more day of practices information. I think it's gonna help you. It probably has to be one more day of like trade. She canary like I can't imagine it's I mean there was like a lot of the buzz now it's actually hurt and I go is how are you going to be able to trade one of these guys to the sea hawks? It's like I don't think so. Nothing that we've seen from these guys in the summer would suggest that they have trade value. If they did, our trade trade by the way. Yeah, I love a tree lock. I love that guy. Charmless charm is at the Super Bowl. Yeah, if I bike a dot, I'll do a talk about it. Talk about some minutes. Have you ball? Yeah, he's got every ball now. I don't know. So I don't know. I don't think they said it's now
getting to the point where it is actually negatively affecting them on a very small margin and hopefully the back of quarterback doesn't get in this game. But that backup quarterback is getting whoever it is is getting fewer reps than he should. And they're obviously pissing both of those guys. Yeah, I don't I don't understand the approach. It makes me wonder if both of them will be up. I don't know if one of them will be like designated as the emergency quarterback for this reason. Maybe at some point we do just need to acknowledge it could just be because they don't have confidence in either of them seeing out an entire game. But it's not an ideal scenario. It's the only thing I can think of is it's like they are the boyfriend who is too scared to break up with the girlfriend or vice versa, whatever it is. And so they're just they're just they're just treating them so badly, hoping that one of these two guys is just going to quit. And if Andy Dahlene retires, they don't owe him his money. Right. Is maybe maybe that if they can piss him off just enough, they'll claw back that that
million dollars of guarantee. But then the way to do that is just make a fourth string. Like holding the carrot up saying that he's the second like you're the other backup. Yeah, but the way to really piss him off is to make him think he might be the two. He just keeps the carrot in front of him there. Yeah, that's really bizarre stuff. That's my update. Again, as we talk about in active. I think they're going to have both of those guys up. No, that's my guess. You have two quarterbacks active. Come on. I'm telling you. That's that. That's we'll see. Bring back DTR. Ethan says in the chat. I agree with that. If they win this game on Sunday by 30 points and have two quarterbacks active, we're starting the post game show. Talks about that. That would be crazy. That would be on brand for I do not miss the post game show on Sunday. Brandon Graham in studio. Brandon Lee Gountain joins us. Miles Johnson is involved. Brand Duffy breaking things down. EJ.
Whoo. Great stuff. Vinnie Curry will join us as the season goes on. All kinds of good stuff. Time for us to take our first break on the other side. We get into this matchup. We're going to the things that we are excited to see when the Eagles have to tell the truth on Sunday. Stay with us. Elkins Chevrolet run by three brothers, real brothers, local guys. And right now they're going all in. Check out their inventory of Chevy trucks and SUVs. The ones people actually want priced to move. Best. Silverado Equinox tracks trailblazer. And the difference at Elkins is no run around, no back and forth, no games. Just real brothers making real deals every
single day. Elkins Chevrolet, real brothers, real deals and a whole out of honking good service, Route 73 South in Marlton. However, two first time coordinators makes it tough for the commanders. How do you how do you go about things? I try, especially now, I try not to get too, because you can go, you can get really deep into the weeds and try and figure out like all the different minutia when it comes into like both sides of the ball. What could it look like? You just kind of have to wait and see. You know, like broad strokes, what to expect. I've talked with multiple beatwriters from Washington, just to kind of like, what did you see during camp and those kinds of things, but yeah, you can really get into into the weeds and trying to figure out like, what are you expecting to see trying to project that forward? It's no different though. Then like, you know, we have an idea of what to expect with Sean Manion, but we don't really know until Sunday. Yeah. Which side of the ball is more interesting to you?
I mean, the offense is the bigger story, but I'm more interested from an ex and O standpoint in the defensive side because we I've known of Dorante Jones since he got called up or called up since he got hired from college from LSU to Minnesota. And then we haven't really seen a lot of people from the Brian Florets tree. So I'm interested to see like what that looks like. Yeah. So yeah, is is Brian Florets truly one of a kind or is this guy going to try to do some Brian Florets stuff? What are your expectations? And let's let's start on that side of the ball and go to that side. Go a little bit through, you know, how many times is Frankie Luvoo going to jump off size? Well, that's say, yeah, that that one will be interesting. I'm just going to read just some of my notes. Please do it that way. All right. So I am really interested in this marriage between Dan Quinn and Dorante Jones because I think we think collectively of Dan Quinn is like, oh, like, Legion of Boom, couple of three, like, but he really has not been that for the last couple stops. Like when you go back to Dallas and then even in Washington, this was a defense that was,
you know, very aggressive. It's very easy pressure coach. That's going to blitz. A lot of mug looks, blitzing linebackers. We think of how they use Bobby Wagner, how they use Frankie Luvoo. They play aggressive man-to-man coverage, cover two mixed in. Now you bring in Dorante Jones, who again comes from Brian Flores. Oh, like, one of the typically when I, when I keep my notes on coaches and schemes, I'll try and find a couple of like quotes from those coaches that kind of, you know, embody what they're all about with Brian Flores. It's like, solve your problems with aggression. And so like, that's something that, you know, Dorante Jones in theory, like, could be bringing to the table here. He's got that LSU background and LSU, like, a lot of aggressive, press man-man-to-man, so that's kind of what I expect here. I think it could be very fun, like, schematically and ideologically. It is if it is just to quickly pause, completely cut you off. That's a good footballism that should not apply to real life. Yeah, yeah. You got that frog shaking it's boots over there.
We got important. Yeah, what's the vol update? Oh, so not a vol. Went back and it was still in the same spot that I left it in, oh, when I came here yesterday. And I'm taking a look at it. I'm like, that doesn't look like a vol. So I started looking on like, all right, like, what are the animals that could be? I said, I don't know, baby squirrel, infant newborn squirrel. I'm like, where I found it? Probably fell out of the tree. I ended in the driveway. So I'm like, all right, what do I do with a baby squirrel? And it's like, don't feed it. Don't think I'm like, yeah, I'm not doing any of that. So it's like, put it in something like where it can kind of like stay isolated and put it under the tree that you think it fell out of and then the model will come and grab it. So I'm like, all right, so I go get the shovel and go get the shovel. By the way, I had people in this cord who thought when I started telling the story yesterday, I was like, oh, I went and got my shovel that I was going to kill the thing in the driveway. I was like, no, come on. So I went and got the shovel scooting. It's very validating that you're also like a handle an animal with a shovel man because that's me. You know, and I sometimes don't feel like a real
like, you know, outdoorsman. If I'm not willing to pick the animal up, but I like a shovel. There are some things where I'm like, all right, like I got a bird got into the house. I went and I got gloves on and I grabbed the bird. I'm not getting that with a shovel. So there's I'm not touching any any part of that. I'm out. I'll catch a frog. I'll go get. Oh, no, I like to scroll though. I like to scroll. All right. So I go and I get the shovel and I scoop it into the box. I cover it up with some leaves. I push it up against the tree. Like because they need to they need warm because they don't have fur when they're that small. So that's something to keep it warm. We went to back to school night. I came back. He was already gone. And like, no, I searched the area he was gone. So the mom, I think, like, he down grabbed it. He saved it. Happy. Now, and friends, well, here's the thing. Francis is very skeptical that this was a happy ending. He was like a fox definitely ate it. I was like, oh, it's a little early for the fox. And then he was like, we see foxes like at this time of day all the time. And I was like, do I have to either save it or put it up on a platter. Well, so have a kid that gets watched hoppers. No, not yet. So there's a push line in there that's like
circle of life. Kind of idea about pond rules. So it's like, oh, like, yeah, like if an animal's got to eat, it's got to eat. And that's so Francis always who's like, yep, pond rules like, fox got to eat. Okay. That's what I was gonna say. Like a meeting that I was like, oh, something ate it. Yeah, that's Francis is smart. It's possible. But I think, I think the mommy squirrel, the irony is, is like, people think of voles as like a garden pest. And I'm like, yeah, do people think of voles? Well, yeah, if you know, if you, if you're aware of voles, it's like, yeah, on garden pest. I don't mind a vol. I hate art, the squirrels. And I'm constantly because they go into my raspberry bush and take their raspberries, they take the charting tomatoes, they take the strawberries, like me and the squirrels, but you know, it's a rabbit and deer around my house. Rabbits and deer around my house that drive me crazy. They eat all the plants, they're everywhere. Rabbits, especially. South problems with aggression. You're hard to get, hard to get mad at deer. I feel like a deer. And wait till they eat your entire garden. Yeah, that's what I'm worried about. There's a baby one stuck in the yard this weekend. And I'm just like,
all right, like I know that we have like, we have a six foot fence. So most deer can clear it, but the baby couldn't clear it. So he just full set. He was like right into the fence. So it's like somehow like I'm just like, I'm just like, I look at this thing like, come on, I left the door open, just walk over there and walk out and finally made it's way out. That's very funny. All right, back to the commander's defense. One gap defensive system upfront. Like it's going to be upfield rush. Now they completely remade that defensive front. A lot of new additions from a person else standpoint. So they go and they give a big money contract to a Daffy Oway. They go and they give money to Caleb on chase on. They bring in Charles Omenahoo. They bring back Tim Settle, who some they got settled back. They got like right up there with Aaron Donald's returning like Tim Settle. You know, this is a huge return here for the former day three pick. But when you look at the right, so a bunch of new bodies and defensive line, they go in. They get sunny styles in the top 10 in the draft, who's got the ability to be a really, really good player. And I feel like there's a lot of faith that he'll be able to reach his ceiling. Uh, problem is they've been really banged up already on this on the end. Not we won't even we're not even talking about the offensive side.
Just defensively, uh, Oway missed the last couple of weeks of practice of training camp with an injury. He just returned to practice yesterday. Chase on missed the last couple of weeks. He just returned to practice on Friday. So guys, they have not been 100% over the last couple of weeks. They're missing their number one corner in tray. Amos. He's been out. Uh, so they they've and their other pass rusher Doran's Armstrong. He's suspended for week one. So they are very, very short handed on that side of the football. That's where like the scheme comes into play. And that's what I'll be fascinated to see like, are they going to do a lot of the Brian Flora stuff where it's a lot of, you know, lighter bodies up on the line of scrimmage and trying to keep you guessing. Is it going to be a three man rush? Is it going to be a six man rush? And they're what are they playing behind it? Is it going to be man to man like straight cover zero? Is it going to be some kind of zone? Cause you did, they did all kinds of stuff. They like to get freaky up front in the Brian Flora scheme. So, um, no, I, I'm interested to see the scheme, but they just, to me, like, they don't have the dogs to be able to play like right now. I think they're going to struggle.
Some talk and talk with me about it yesterday about how as sunny styles people were sort of picking on him on the preseason film. You think unfair? Uh, unfair. I think that that that that was like a, um, you know, a classic like someone who doesn't know what they're talking about. A lot of people don't know. They're talking about like, oh, like, what's he doing? It's like, yeah, like it's a rookie linebacker playing his first game. You know, yeah, that's kind of how it goes. Yeah. Um, yeah. I know. I thought it looked fine, but they're getting him early. Yeah. And I do think it's like one of my notes in there is I do think like I throw a bunch of, I can't be at him and throw a bunch of motions and, and make him sort through that. Because I do think there's going to be inconsistencies there. That's always been, that's a bit of drawback on Frankie Lovoo. Like I'd be throwing all that stuff at those guys, to try and take advantage. So I would expect to see a lot of that from the Eagles in this game. So let me ask you, given all of the new things that the Eagles have to incorporate on this offensive game and totally different thing and all the moving parts and the motion and all of that. And then the same thing on Washington, whatever tree of blind Brian Flores, this might be with,
with Dan Quinn, but like these guys moving concert, who do you think it benefits to get this game schematically before they know who the other is? Good question. I think it probably benefits the defense more. That's just difficult. Only because I think they can, they can kind of expect what this offense is going to. I think there's a little bit more mystery with them. What does make this theory? Yeah. This is about the thing that the offensive line has talked about where we are no longer playing defense before the snap. I agree. We are dictating terms. Yes. I think that's in theory. Yeah. And that's why I like it's not like I would look at this and say like, oh man, like they're in trouble because they don't know what's coming. I think that this is, and I said this with cars earlier this week, like, this is you go into this game for the Eagles and it's like, yeah, like, we're not 100. We don't can't say with 100% certainty what we're going to see schematically. Go out, run the ball, stay ahead of the sticks, get the play action game rolling. Like this should be like the day one, in saw this is their preseason. Yeah. Eventually like four, four of the ones is let's iron out,
you know, get the wrinkles out. Let's just do what we do. And you know, I think they should be able to out execute this game. No, no, not Jalen Hertz was asked about the fact that I think they're five and oh, in week one with him as a starter. Correct. And he mentioned, you know, he answered it very on brand saying by keeping the main thing the main thing is how they've managed that. But also mentioned the fact that there's like a conviction of what they're going to do entering week one, like a vision for what it's going to look like and a belief in that vision. And he said, like, that's something that they sometimes lose throughout the season, which I found very interesting. Like, you know, as a transition into this game plan week, it's like, this is who we want to be this week. It's maybe a little harder to do that week in a week out when you know, like, how it worked and you know, in games previous and all the and everything starts to change. But I think, yeah, it was like a conviction of what they're going to do. If I remember right, because I think of a lot of the battles that the Eagles, Jalen Hertz, Nick Serionny have had against Brian Flores. They played Minnesota decent amount over the last few years. I go back to the one, I guess this would have been the 2023 season. Brian Johnson, it was like week two Monday night football. I think I
had home in the link. Was that am I right on that? Or is it a football maybe? It was a prime time game. Devon Tase Smith had the deep ball touchdown. 2023. This is this was decided. This was a little bit more middle of the season dolphins were. Oh, no, 23 was was McDaniel. No, I'm thinking for so the. Yes, that's right. That's right. That's right. That's right. That's right. That's right. That's right. Yes. So I in that one, I remember after the game, I just out on the trip ran for like 180 yards. And so that I remember there was a sequence where they ran the same play like five times in a row or something like that. That's right. And Jeff Stoutland came in studio and like praised Brian Johnson. It's like, yeah, like I give Brian's, you know, first time play collar, like I give him a lot of credit for like saying like this is working. We're sticking with it. Yeah. And then I go back to last year and they played week seven last year. And they came out in that game. And this was one of the big like under center play action games. This was the beginning of this transition. Right. But it's quote unquote like because it was like, I think it was like four dropbacks of under center play action. I was like, oh my god. Like, you know, anything. I always feel like pass or anything. Well, yeah. I mean, a huge, huge place might
be breaking one down later this week. But what you're going to see from, you know, from the Eagles, I think in this one is okay. If they want to come out and they want to do all these different, like funky looks and all that stuff. And they want to stand everybody up on the line of screenage and, you know, it's case on and it's in its own way. And you've got to run pain. And we're going to move, you know, move all these guys around. We saw our problems with aggression. We're going to run the ball. We're going to run you out of those looks. And so that's why I hear Jalen hurts say that too. Like that's my guess is that they're going to come out. They're going to run the ball. They're going to give them a heavy dose of sake, Juan Barclay. That's that's my assumption. It is funny. Like you envision Jalen hurts his struggles against the blitz. But specifically against Brian Flores influence defense. It seems like he's better against those exotic pressure packages. It's more like the bulls tree that is gaming in trouble. Well, what's interesting is like because I've thought about it with a couple of these games, his numbers have never been I've been like, you know, I didn't like go to like deep dive, like number, you know, searching through this. But the numbers were never like great. But he had
like big plays in two moments. Like I thought of that. The, the, the, the deep post of Devante back in 23. There was obviously a couple big ones last year as well. There was the one to AJ Brown early in the game that was outside of structure. But like he's come up with big plays. But like the, it was like a bad success rate in the game. Yeah. Yeah. Like a high EPA low success rate type of operation, typically against this defense. All right. I'm going to take a quick break back in two minutes with a little bit more on this side of the ball. And then we'll talk about Daniels and what looks like a Garbanzo beans offensive line. We are so excited at PHOI to welcome our newest sponsor, DraftKings to the family. And guys, the weight is over. You know, I did poo poo the bat conversation about, you know, that the scariest thing out in the wild. I went to the zoo the other day when you see those those bats up close. Those are not really. The early. Yeah. We get free bats. Yeah. Yeah. Those are cute ones. They're like, what? Those are mutants. They're like, they got like a face like a dog. Oh, you got. Those things moving around. This is the bow dog hatred. Yeah,
yeah. No, no, it's not about their face. It's about the way they're like going just home. And then when they open up their wings, oh, no, yeah, it's the little ones that I don't like. Oh, those three geeky stuff. Little bats. This, this bat looks like a baby bear almost. Yeah, those guys are. There's another one. There's another because there's a few in there. Yeah. A few different kinds. There's another one that is. I mean, when you see it going well, all right. Really nasty stuff. Your bat radar is just way off my bat radar. Yeah, your bat radar. This is like, I can't tell if I'm near Batman or not. No, you just the bats you like are terrible and the bats you hate are great. Couldn't be more opposed on the way that you feel about bats. You're worstick. That's not true. No, that's not true. The hand or dealt is done to buy our friends at parks. Casino, and here's my question for you. We know that Devonte is going to be the number one receiver.
Today, Wix, we expect is going to be pretty consistent with the number two receiver. Okay, Dallas guy. It's going to be out there. After those top three guys, who plays the most snaps on Sunday? Just Sunday. Is it Johnny month? And they're living in 12 personnel? Is it Mackayle lemon? And they're hot shotting him into the roster as the full time 11 personnel slot guy or is it Hollywood brown? Who is the receiver or tight end who plays the most snaps just on Sunday? Well, this is tough. Under one, two, three. Yeah, let's do it. All right, ready? One, two, three. You said month and we both said 11. Yeah. I feel like there's a chance that Mackayle lemon and Hollywood brown will steal from you. Other staff. Okay. And that Johnny month conversely might even get some of Dallas Goddard snaps out of 11. Yeah, it's possible, which is why I'm going to go with Johnny month. Mostly a non-answer on the receivers from here. Yeah, I think you could be someone in the field. It could have been Willie Lampkin.
If it's someone in the field, Darious Cooper is I guess probably the answer. I don't think but I don't think it's going to be Darious Cooper. Yeah. Um, Nick Siriani was asked about Mackayle lemon yesterday. This was the question from Dave Zanger. I'll shout out today with how much time Mackayle lemon is in training camp? Did he get enough or did they get enough time to see him and evaluate him and feel comfortable playing him in week one? Nick said everyone is in a different spot when you go through an injury. He he maybe hasn't had as many reps. I'm really confident in that room. All the guys in that room, including Mackayne excited about that room and the things that they will bring to our football team. That doesn't sound to me. Nick Siriani tries not to say anything. That doesn't sound to me like a vote of confidence in Mackayle lemon having a huge role in week one. Let me ask you, we can close the book on the hand your dealt presented by parks. Because you know, the first dropback. Okay. You know, they're calling it to get somebody to the ball. Yeah. Is it is a Devonte? It's Devonte. It's a quick throw to Devonte. I bet I could see. I could
truly see we're just getting Mackayle lemon to ball to make him feel good. No, I think I can say opening drive. I think first snap is like a Devonte Smith lined up inside like reduced split running a quick out route to the sideline. And it's like a five. You're going to be like a deep shot. No, five yard deep. Pleasure. Five yard completion in Devonte. That's more that's more Andy thinking. I think Nick thinking is yeah, you get. Yeah. Okay. First play is going to be stretch sauce. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. No doubt it's like first dropback. First dropback is going to unless it's starting long. Yeah. I think I think it's going to be it's going to go stretch on first down. Play action on second down quick to quick to Devonte. And then you see if you get the first down or we got to make sure we clip this because it's probably like that on. All right. What else about the commanders secondary that you want to talk about because you know, as we as as caught the world by storm, the Josh Job Mac home ending of last night's game.
Good stuff. We've got Rasool Douglas and Jeremy Reeves ready to start for the commanders. Jeremy Reeves. I mean, he was with the Eagles in 2018 training camp. The Eagles wave him at the end of the summer. He gets picked up by Washington. Sticks as a reserve grows as a special teamer makes a probe. Robulous. Special teamer as a special teamer and now earns a starting job under a new defensive staff here this year as a starting safety. So shout out to Jeremy Reeves. Starting opposite Nick Cross, who was another high price free agent that they brought over from Indianapolis, which of course we broke on this show. That's right. That's a good call. I forgot about that. In the comments. Nick Cross getting on Raya. Now only three corners on the 53 on the initial 53. Then they brought back Fabian Moro as the fourth. So they've got four corners active with Amos on injured reserve to start the season. Amos, by the way, these were broken leg at the end of last year. Lasted through the off season came back practice once and hurt his ankle. It was like, yeah, that's just kind of rough for a trade. Amos. So Mikey Sanders still in a
meek Robertson are the two starting corners and they're going to play outside in base. That would probably be this I would guess probably the smallest starting corner tandem in football would be my understood would be my guess. Just, you know, but looking at center still is 510-182 and that's probably stretch even and then Robertson 59-183. So two guys that, you know, don't have outstanding size have inside outside flexibility. Rasool Douglas is the third corner. I'll be interested to see who kicks inside in nickel. The thing though that I'm, you know, interested to see with this Washington defense though is Dorante Jones when they were in Minnesota, they did a lot of like three safety nickel where Josh Mattellis would come down and play like in the in the slot in the box. So who would that be for Washington? I kind of think it could be Juan Markroom. There's a second year guy Tyler Owens who has gotten some buzz at safety. So what the rotation looks like in the in the secondary for Washington will be interesting. But again, I don't think any of these like it shouldn't be one where like all the Eagles are worried about some of these matchups. I think it's a good week one draw for this off. No doubt about it. Yes.
Okay. Let's flip sounds to the ball. Yep. It's also kind of a good week one draw for the Eagles defense given how beleaguered the offensive line is in Washington. Yeah. I mean, look, tell me if this sounds familiar. You have a new new offensive coordinator hire who is fresh from being a long time back up in the NFL has only been coaching for a couple of years. And now they want to incorporate more under center, more play action, more motion. They're going to move guys around. It's not going to be a static and stale is what they've seen there the last couple of years, more run game, more multiple tight end sets. That's everything out of Washington. That's what it sounds like. So David Blau is the new offensive coordinator and play caller. And he's gotten grave reviews from Dan Quinn. That it sounds like everything's been like hunky Dory all summer. Now the big thing with them is they lose Larry Tonsel who some might believe is the most employer and player in the entire NFL. That is such a ridiculous refraining of what happened there. But hey, go ahead.
Yeah. I'm fine with it. So they lose Larry Tonsel. He's out for the year. So they're going to move Brandon Coleman who has started for the commanders. Actually, the last time these two teams, the last time, Jatin Daniels faced against the Eagles, Brandon Coleman was the starting left tackle. And that was in the 2024 NFC or NFC championship game. So Coleman slides back out to left tackle. What that looks like for the rest of the offensive line, you're going to have, they got rid of their starting center. So Nick Allegretti's the starting center. You have Chris Paul left guard. Good. Thanks. Sam Cosme at right guard and Josh Connerley at right tackle. This could be one of the worst offensive lines in the league this year. Depending on how some of these, look, young pieces like I think Coleman's got some ability. Connerley has ability, but was up and down last year. You know, I think could continue to be up and down. I the reviews from camp weren't like, you know, Sterling from him on that side of it. Chris Paul, one of the lowest grade lowest rated or lowest paid. Sorry, starting guards and football. Sam Cosme is a good player. So I think that when
you're looking at the rest of that group, like it's hard to feel like overly inspired. Apparently the center spot has been a source spot for them here this summer. It's now you're going up against Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis tomorrow. Ojomo like Jalex Hunt going up against Brandon Coleman. I think that's a match up you circle. If you're if you're a Vic Fangio and Jeremiah Wasperan. Yeah, I feel good about this match up. The defensive line really to eat. Yeah, I mean, some of us think more of a Jomo can have another big season. I don't even remember what you're referencing. What we did the bold predictions. I took more with Jomo having more Saxon Jalen Carter. I didn't necessarily like feel convicted in it. Was that one of the ones that you like started and then bow like pushed you to be more bold and then you said, like, Oh, okay, I guess I'll do that. No, he picked Jalen Carter. I was like, I'll take the other side of that. God, I mean, yes, some of us had bold predictions. Okay. I've wide receiver. This is another big one. So Terry McClaren is back. Now McClaren is coming off the the worst season of his career last year. Now remember, he held out for most of most
training camp last year with the contract negotiation comes back. Emileigh Hertz is quad. So he has career lows and yards per game touchdowns and games flayed miss seven games with that quad injury. Good player went healthy. He's been the only 1,000 yard receiver they've had in the last decade, you know, for for that team. They went and they signed to find digs. Now digs, you had to get a pretty good year last year. There was a number I pulled from, I think this is from next gen. You had 83.3% catch rate last year, which was actually the best of any receiver that had at least 40 targets. Seven of his eight seasons have ended with a thousand yards. So that includes last year when he was in Houston. It includes his year, you know, with New England, rather. So you're looking at his even as he's got no other like he still found ways to be productive. We'll see at tight end, they want to lean into being more heavy personnel focus. So take a conqueau. They signed EJs. They signed in from Tennessee. John Bates has been there for the last couple of years. My guess is based off the way they want to play that John Bates will actually get the lion share of reps and kind of be the starter and then Chig will kind of get
worked in just because he's more like past first and maybe pass only at time. So let me just see how that shakes out. But Bill Croskey Merritt Merritt is the starting running back. He showed up on the injury report. He was limited yesterday. So we'll see how healthy he is. It's not a great running back group overall. The ex-hiders J Nengels like have you told Lindsey the name of their other tight end? No. Though, well, there's Ben Sinett. I don't think that's who you're talking about. Yeah, that's not even stock about. Yeah. Colson Yankoff. Oh, Lindsey didn't like that one. Too much build up. Yeah, where are you at with J Nengels? Look, he was awesome. His rook year. He was awesome. But the question is how much can he sustain that? How much of that was like a high wire act in terms of the way that he was performing? I thought he was really decisive. We know about the athleticism. We know about the arm talent. But can he keep himself healthy? Keep himself healthy? That's been a big discussion point there
in that like all the players like talking about it and things like that over the course of the summer is like, yeah, like he's got to learn how to slide. And that's all of that stuff has been talked about ad nauseam for the last 12 months. And so he's got great ability. How does he adjust to the new scheme? I know there's already like rumors about like what is the contract status with him? When are they going to be able to sign him to this extension? He's ineligible now, but like he will be here a year from now. What is that going to look like? This is kind of a big year for J Nengels. So yeah, it's he's got a lot of talent and he could be an X factor. So we'll see how it goes. Do you think that this is a week where Vic plays it down the middle or gets a little freaky himself? I would think they'll play this down the middle. Yeah, that would be my guest. I think this is like let's let's contain Daniels. You know, let's not I think we'll we saw that from them in 2024 is the they're going to play a little bit of the contain stuff in terms of like rush and being disciplined with the rush lanes. We should be able to stop the run against them. We
should be able to shut down McLaren like a McLaren and Quinyan had a really good match. I remember he was primarily the left receiver. Yeah, I was the right corner. They're going to move McLaren around more. That will be fascinating to kind of track. Like what are the Eagles do to combat that? Are they okay with him getting matched up on a rewollen at times? So that's that'll be something to track as the game goes on. I think this is a let's go out do what we do out execute since we're talking defense two notes from Vic Van Joess press conference. He confirmed that Marcus Epps is going to be the starting state. Yeah, I'm saying Andrew McCuba not surprising, but yeah, important. And he was asked about how they've handled mobile quarterbacks and how they didn't apparently struggled with it last year. And Vic says I don't know how we would rate on that. Maybe PFF has some phone. He's that that you can look up. I love that guy. He's great. He's a call machine. So many made a very good joke. Good good chance to Vic thinks one of the F's and PFF stands for Fauci. Which F? Probably the second one. I would think so.
It's very good. He said something else that maybe laugh in his press conference too, but I forget what it was. I was talking about hating describing players as pieces. These are human beings. Oh, that's a little off brand frame. I feel like you think he doesn't think of his players as humans. No, I don't think that. I just, you know, he doesn't seem like a guy who would like humanize like the role of a football player. You know, he had a funny quote about a jihad camp. He said he's good in the open field. He's athletic. He can run. I feel good about him. I don't want to give the wrong impression here. I got spoiled earlier in my career. You ever hear of the dome patrol? So the bar is high for me. Jed York's operating procedure on a road trip, what is dome patrol? That's going anywhere near that dome patrol. The according to mario, you'll get arrested. It was the linebacking court for the New Orleans Saints during the late 1980s and early 1990s under Jim Mora. Sean Othodamo. With Sam Sam Mills. Yes. Ricky Jackson, Von Johnson, not the inquiries Von Johnson, former lay of the eagles. Sam Mills and Pat Swilling. Did you know that off the top of your head? Yeah, the dome patrol. I didn't know that. I thought my. So why did he get burned? Because he said they were good before they were. No, it's like I had greatness early in my career. So it's a high. Yeah, I think he maybe was a little tepid on an answer about your hot Campbell earlier. And that's probably why he's got high standards for linebackers. It's developed some good linebackers and some good ones in San Francisco. Yeah, some good ones. Chicago. You asked Fran, do you know off the top of your head? I feel like off the top of your dome.
It was like layup there. Well played. That's a bad bad podcasting by me. Good job, I lensi. You're going to see even better job by lensi coming up. All right, anything else before we get to swoop her on. I didn't even think about it. Dare you. I swear to God. No, it wasn't me. That's what it was. I didn't think about it at all. I was just I was excited, you know. I dare you. Yeah. Oh, yeah, they are going to do more zone running and Washington this year. Bill Croskey married. They really like him as a one cut runner. And so the thought is, all right, we're going to do more like stretch zone. It does feel like they're going to do less. And this is all goes to like protecting Jaden Daniels more or less designed. QB runs less designed like the option plays. Like it seems like they're taking a lot of that out.
Which goes to Jalen Hertz's point that this type of offense to Billy hasn't had like that running threat. Now he also speaking of Jaden Daniels scrambled at one of the highest rates we've seen back in that 2024 season. Last year was basically a throw a year. He played, yeah, 38% of the available snaps for them. He had seven starts. He only finished four games. So it's really what I'm like thinking of my thoughts on Jaden Nana. He really goes back to that 2024 year. But he scrambled at a really high rate. And that's kind of what I was saying earlier. It was such a high wire act that it's hard to sustain that over the course of time. So yeah, we'll be interested to see. Super chat from drips and say, how many turkeys would you put on Devonte Smith having more receiving yarns than AJ Brown and weeks for just week one season. So AJ's reported that this couple weeks. Probably a season. I got the highest high ankle spray. Yeah. So let's do well, this weekend, I would put a hundred turkeys on it. Yeah, AJ had 26 or 26 receiving yarns.
Oh, you both had it on the whole season. At this point, not knowing anything. I would put it 68 turkeys on 68. Okay. I was going to say before AJ got hurt before the season started. I would have been 40 or something. Yeah, I would have probably put it at 43 before the season started. Now I'm probably at 57. Okay. You don't feel so sure. I'm on. I would have probably gone. I actually think I'd go higher. I'm both. That I would have taken the over on Devonte. I have more. You would have thought you would have over 50 before the season started. Yeah. I think really. Yeah. Interesting. No way to prove that you actually believe that and you're not just trying to look smart. You're right. Now we don't we don't as objective observers. We don't are taking hate watches, but I do want to like give a hat tip to all the Eagles fans out there. That must have been an incredible hate watch last night. Yeah.
Like that has got to be a generational hate watch and injury aside, of course. But just the way that the Patriots offense looked that happened. It is also just a it's a funny Drake May like. Okay. He had this great season. But man was he in hell in the Super Bowl. Let's just throw him right in the pool and re-traumatize him right on. Like week one is just how like he doesn't he does not get to get over that. He's just right back into it. And now he's going to have these ghosts in the set. I'll see you in a long. And then of course next year is when they you get the rooting for another team to lose your title. You're right for them to lose this year because that slot. What is it? What was the fifth round or the fifth round of this year? Oh, something like that. But really, it's next year for that pick. You're going to be rooting for the lose every single week. Yeah. You don't want them to be too bad this year because I'm like an easy schedule next year. Right. But you want one more quick super chat. Dinkleberg, our old friend. The dink man. The dinker says local man now hero saves squirrel. Four to eleven. Wow. I agree with all those descriptors for friend. He is local and easy and local. And there he does have more to eleven. Well, I think the
dink man has more to eleven to be the exact. All right. It's time for the debut of Swoper. But first it's overtime. And on the other side of overtime, you get to see what I meant when I was talking about Lindsey making big plays on the show. It's time to start Swoper. Oh, this is a bidding game. There will be twelve items. And I blew turkeys in that one, which then affects me the next what? I didn't get it. And there you go. I need help. Is anyone else as excited as I am? There's like one item a week for you just sound so like smug and unbelievable loss for me. Although feeling good because the vapors come in office. Maybe this is what you need to turn around and clupper. Yeah. It's a backup. Oh, Davis. I don't think you know you know
get to the reason. So wouldn't be spooker if I got the order right the entire time. Beautiful stuff. Beautiful stuff. Lindsey fantastic. Like the well. Like the video. Everybody just for that. You the next season of Swoper Swartcasting. I'm your defending champion. I was also your defending champion last year. No big deal to me. We'll move forward. Here's the deal. We will have twelve different items that we will submit for bidding that are related to things that can happen in the next Eagles game. This year we are speeding things up a little bit. We're going to have a 42nd play clock just like you know Jalen and the offense have to work on getting things in on time. We're going to have ourselves a 42nd shot clock play clock to bid on the item. We all start every week with 24 turkeys but you are allowed to carry over turkeys. Turkeys are what we used to bid. And if your item hits whoever
owns the most items that end up hitting during the game wins that week. You're going to point for a win at the end of the season. Whoever has the most winning weeks wins the game. Are we all settled on how we're doing here? Let's do it. All right. The order. We will start with our defending champion. As I said before that is me. I'm going to go me, Fran, EJ, the professor will have some items for us as well. We begin with item number one, the first item of the super year. A classic one, two or three of the following things will happen during the game on Sunday. There are five items here. One, two or three of them will hit a. A, a commander's linebacker is flag for off-science or encroachment. Obviously this is a callback to the Frankie Luvu situation from the NFC championship game, but it could be styles. It could be anybody else. Okay. So it's not an outside linebacker guy. Look at their depth chart. Do they list like, uh, Daffy always an outside
line. I will not count that. No. No. This is a cure like inside of the. What if they're listed that way? It's one of the way. Is this enough outside? I would not count it. All right. Just want to make sure. No, but that's a good, that's a good shout. Uh, and they got to be flagged for it. Yep. B, Darius Cooper, record to catch. See, a kick or a punt. It's an upright or the crossbar. This includes kickoffs. D, sake one, Barkley, who we've wondered is he going to be involved more in the passing game, hatches a pass at least eight yards beyond the line of scrimmage. Beyond the line of scrimmage. Okay. And E, Jalen hurts throws an interception. One, two or three of those things happen. The clock will begin once I give you the opening bid. I will start debating at two. Lindsay will let us know as the clock goes. Great.
Oh, look at me. I will say four. Five. Where are we at? You got 10 seconds. Six on this. I will go six. Three, two. Got it for six. It's all to the handsome defending champion. Okay, a lot to platter. We start with 30. Okay, start with 24. Like 24. Sorry, sorry. Yes. Okay. Hi, my first one. Jalen hurts. Scores a rushing touchdown in the game. I thought I had some numbers on that.
The commanders allowed just one rushing touchdown to quarterbacks all of last season, tied for fewest in the NFL. And obviously we know about the talk around Jalen and his rushing effectiveness in this offense. We will start the bidding at three or five. Six. Six going once. Six going twice. So how are you, Jay? Are we just removing the clock? If we if you can if we finish before the clock, we don't we can get the play off. So that was six for EJ. Six for Maddie. Yep. All right, ready for my first hurts my TD. I alluded to this earlier on the show. Cole Peyton is the only quarterback on the inactive's list. Obviously again, don't know with Andy Dalton and Tanner McKee, who is even the number two.
I'm going to start the bidding. I'm worried this is trading on inside. I know I my first thought if they don't know then how would I know? I don't have any inside information here. And I'm going to start the bidding. We're playing with fire the first entry. I'm going to start unbelievable. I'm going to start the season this way. I don't know. I mean, I appreciate that you consider me such an insider that I know things that the guys that are involved on now. No, I'm not saying you know who's number two, but you're you're you're clearly working off information to think that they're both going to be up. No, it's it's the information I just gave you. I told you that's all the information. I'm going to start the bidding at two. It is so funny that they're they're dalliance with Colt Payton playing special teams as if like, okay, maybe we could have a maybe we could have a third quarterback active and have them play special teams and they would have three guys and it wouldn't be him. 25 seconds. We'll start the bidding at two. Colt Payton is the only in active quarterback. 15 seconds.
It's too stupid. It's too stupid for me to want this to happen. No. 10. Yeah, that's you. It's good value right there. Maybe. All right, the professor. Professor. You want me to read it? All right, item four from the professor. His boy, Tim Settle. Tim Settle does not record an official stat on defense based on the NFL gamebook. So this is tackles, sacks, past defense, anything like that. Tim Settle does not record an official stat on defense. He is there to what DT four. Yeah, give or take. Okay, I'll start the bidding at one. Two.
Three. Three going once. Three going twice. Hmm. I get it. I'm serious. Sold. No, so. I agree. Down to 15 turkeys for your boy. Brands got all 24. EJ is at 16. Over to me. An eagle records as many catches as this item sells for. So any eagle has as many catches as this item sells for. I will start the bidding. I'll be generous. I'll start the bidding at three. Hmm. Four. Five. It's going to be the exact number, right? The exact number. Hmm.
But I'm going once. I think that's the number. It's a good one. It's great. But I'm going twice. Oh, sold. That's a good. That was it. I was going to. I was going to start. I'm starting. Yeah. That's right. I wanted to be a little bit more generous. I thought you were going to do that. Yeah. I started it. I got that. You got that. I did. You got that. I got a friend. Yeah. It was a good number. And jealous. Okay. Over to you, friend. The Eagles have more 20 plus yard completions from under center than they do three and outs on offense. Eagles leading the league in three and outs last year. Obviously not a lot of 20 plus yard completions from under center. We will start the bidding at three. Got it. It's hard. 30 seconds. Explosives.
I think I'm out of this one. Yeah, you can have it. I'll take it for three. All right. All right. I got a similar one for you here. Jalen Hertz has over 100 passing yards off of play action. Tracked by next chance. This is something that we can find in Trimedia a couple days after the game. A little bit of context. It only happened once last season. Week 17 against the Buffalo Bills. But leave why. You didn't have it. That Minnesota game. I didn't have it. It's 79 on the one. You made off the play actions specifically. So yeah. That's right. I mean, you got 79 off just got one to want to play. It happened 97 times league wide. So it's not a rare thing. But for this offense, well, previous iterations of this offense. If that's where I will start the bidding at three. It's four. Five. Well, he's decisive with this one. He's really feeling it. Five going once. He's really really.
I mean, that gave you all the information I have again. I got one to be better. Going twice. Go ahead. Gold. All right. Okay. Item number eight. As we see, EJ's going to 11 turkeys left. France got six. I've got 15 item eight. Jalen Hertz sets new career highs in both under center completions and under center attempts. His current under center completion record is four set against both the Vikings and Raiders last year. His under center attempt record is six set against the bills last year. And this is a Dutch auction start at 15 turkeys and slowly count down until somebody yells. Swooper Lindsay. Are you ready to do the countdown? I believe I can do it. You guys are already. Can you just walk me through the rules for the countdown one more time? You should count down whatever number you are willing to bid. Whenever you get to that number, you yell swoop or you get access to shout it. All right.
Ready? Four and six completions and attempts. He has to do both of them. Here we go. 15. 14. 13. 12. 11. 10. 9. Who's first? Who's first? Who's first? Who's first? No, no, no, no. I heard friend first. Yeah. I was we all three yelled at that. We all three have nine. Yeah, I think I heard friend. I absolutely can't back me up. We'll go to the tape. I mean, I would like to say that was me. It's just on 10. Hold on. It's a good one. I got 14. 14. 12. 11. 10. 9. He's here. He's close to the top. He's close to the top. I think that was me. I think that was me. I'm just saying. Wow. Two to two.
11. 10. Come on. I think it's me. No, that was me. That was me. Get out of here. That was me. That was definitely. I don't know. I think this I think. This is like all fault. I'll listen to you both get it for half the price and only half the points. Both get. I forget a half point. Or could we just bid now? This is one of those things where you suggest it. No, you're probably right. You're probably right. The better way to do it is to now open the building because we all bid. Right. Not racks. Yeah. So is anybody willing to pay 10? Wait, are we doing this like? Yeah. I don't like going back up. I'm going back up. But it's a normal auction now. It becomes a normal auction. That's the that's the matter. I think we said this last year. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. Are you fran? Yeah, I'll take it for 10. I'll take it for 11. Okay. Could I just bid to 11? I guess I could have just done that. Yes.
Yes. All right. 11 going once. 11 going twice. Go ahead. You can have it for 11. All right. EJ is out of Turkey. That was fun. It was. I lose a lot of face off. You're out. So you're out here before out of Turkey. Friends got 16. That's 15 item number nine. The yards from scrimmage. Him bind for everybody on the Eagles offense. Aside from Sequan, Jalen and Devante. Is greater than the number of times EJ uses the word the in his post game story on all PHOI.com. Hold on. Can you put that back up one more time? Right here. So the yards from scrimmage. Yeah. Yeah. For every eagle, not aside from Jalen Hertz, Sequan, Barclay and Devante Smith. That number is greater than the amount of times
that EJ uses the word the in his post game story. That's the starting. The already somewhere is greater than the yes. Okay. Okay. I'll use the word the. No. It was starting to be in three. Four. Five. Six. Seven. Nine. I should have had got it in there. And I didn't. Yeah. I'll say ten. Eleven. Twelve. 13. You got it for 13. What's the stop me from just putting that in my article? Nothing. I'm at the bottom. Nothing. Journalistic integrity. I mean, that's not journalistic integrity. You're going to have a guy's. You get to get a shitty story up there. You can tell it.
I can write my normal story. You get to handle that. However you. No. No. It's interesting. It's an interesting proposition there. Let's take a quick look. I hope everybody read EJ's Devante Smith story. If you are a die hard, great time to become a die hard. Very good insight into Devante Smith. You wrote the word the. 137 times that appear. And although that actually might not be. I'm sure you've done them and they. Yeah. Hold on. No, the word the 106 times. Okay. Including the headline and including captions. This is what games were last year though. I tried. I was having a little trouble finding. Got it. Okay. For reasons I don't need that. That's pretty good line. Yeah. That's a good line. All right. Over you, Fran. I've got three turkeys left. Right? Yes. Okay. All right. My last one. Willie Lampkin plays at least three offensive snaps. Start the bidding at three.
Here to take this. I also had a submission like this and had to resubmit. Ranpeamy beat me to it. I'm actually going to let you have this. Thank you. Freeze a lot. I only went one. Yeah. How many? It was you. How many did he? He got it for three. So the two of them both have. I really want your days left at the end of the day. I just really wanted something you want to roof. Yeah. Yeah. Alrighty. Jay, let's read yours that I'm going to get for one turkey. Yep. All right. It is the Vante Smith leads both teams and receiving you. Oh, thrilled to have that for a turkey. Yeah. It's good value. Okay. And now we get a professor's final submission. The professor presumably. Turkey borrowing is allowed. Normal auction, but may borrow from turkeys for next week. The Eagles win the game while allowing fewer points than the number of turkeys or which this item is sold.
We understand. Eagles win. Eagles have to win and allow fewer points than the number for which this item is sold. So you're incentivized if you want to win, to bid it up higher. Right. I will start the bidding. At six. Eight. What is the line? I think it was seven and a half. I'm on it. Five and a half. Five and a half. Five and a half. Five and a half. From our friends, you were the eight points. Nine. Nine. Now you want to go high. Nine going once.
Nine going twice. Lock is ticking. Three. Two. One. EJs for nine. Should I have just gone for 11? Like just to give myself a little bit of an answer. That's fair. I thought about it, but Eagles win and allow fewer than eight or fewer points. Okay. It's tough. Week one. EJ exits with all three of the top quarterbacks are active in this game. Jalen Hertz scores a rushing touchdown. Jalen Hertz has over a hundred yards from play action. Jalen has those highs and under center. So he has at least five completions from under center and seven attempts. And the Eagles win and allow eight or fewer points. Fran. Yeah. Someone on the team has five catches. The 20 yarn completions from under center are greater than the Eagles number three and outs. The combined yards from scrimmage from the Eagles non.
Sequan Devante and Jalen is greater than the times that EJ uses the word the and also Willie Lankin plays three snaps. And I have the poo poo platter of uh Sequan catch John Field, Jalen throws an interception, kick hits the uprights. I have a team settled is not recorded a stat and Devante leads both teams in receiving. It's pretty well. I've got 14 turkeys left. You've got none. You're down nine. I like the uh like the spread here. Yeah. I tried to load up. I don't know if I really achieved it. Yeah, I got the most. I feel like this was one of our uh this was a good start in terms of like these items off. I feel like they're going to hit. We've had some weeks where like uh doesn't feel like that's going to hit or that's going to hit. These are attainable I think. I tried to be tried to be a little bit nicer. And I'm not sure about Mr. Instead of trading. I agree with that. I don't know. One, but all of the information as far as we know, no, I can assure you.
If you listen to the show, then you know everything that I know. Super. Couple of them for a little miss run the ball. Hmm. Brand is right and bats are awesome. Agreed. SRG. Awesome might be strong. Var is ruining super. Shaking my damn head. You go var. I go VAR. I don't feel strongly about it. VAR. Not my favorite thing. And then we had to bust it out. I guess we could have gone straight to the good, but okay. Good stuff. Yeah. I'm still I'm still buzzing from that that teaser video. I mean, it's incredible. The nominal. Great job. Is that going to be the is that the intro every week? I think it's going to be. I like it because people will be able to find Swooper. Not to say you should be skipping around in the show. Hmm. Listen, you should be watching the listen to the whole show. But if you wanted to rewatch Super Swooper or get to Swooper, you can find it. I like that. Or you could look at the time code in the description of the video. Yeah. All over it. But some people are like, I'm chaotic. I'm like,
mashing that 15 second button. Okay. Yeah. Obfuscation. Close. Hey, there's the other. I'm going to say, oh, like that was all right. Yeah. Don't patrol. All that note. All right. Good stuff on Swooper. Thank you, friend. We will see you Sunday. Sunday. The kickoff show with a little breakdown. Yeah. And of course on the post game show. Tomorrow to a clock. The professor and Brennelly Gouton joined me. Our new Friday, Alina. Gonna be very exciting. EJ will have news from the Eagles complex as well. On we roll, baby. All in anticipation of 425 on Sunday when the Eagles take on the Washington Commanders led by the guy who we didn't even mention on the show today.
Yeah, man. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Did someone of these I don't patrol. Oh, jeez. Oh, my God. Is there an island we can go now? All right. That'll do it for this episode of the P.H.O. by Eagles podcast for friend and EJ and Lindsay. We thank you for watching and listening. We'll talk to you tomorrow to a clock. And as always, we love you. You're all sitting like the mayor.
