EMERGENCY EPISODE: Carolina Panthers release Jadeveon Clowney, Jonathon Brooks out for the 2025 season

According to reports on Thursday afternoon, the Carolina Panthers released veteran edge rusher Jadeveon Clowney after one season with his hometown team. This release was part of several post-draft cuts made by the team, but it was undoubtedly the most notable, as the Panthers signed Clowney to a two-year, $20 million deal just a year ago. Did this decision come as a surprise? Following the Panthers' selection of two pass rushers on Day 2 of the 2025 NFL Draft, GM Dan Morgan was noncommittal about Clowney's future when asked how the draft picks impacted Clowney and other reports suggesting the Panthers were shopping the former number one overall pick.
