The primary focus is the assassination of Nitta Yoshioki in 1358 at the Yaguchi Ferry, an event that triggered centuries of onryō (vengeful spirit) management and eventual transformation into goryō (protective deity) worship. These documents trace how this trauma was integrated into Japanese culture through Nitta Shrine, Edo-period puppetry and theater, and the invention of the hamaya (demon-breaking arrow). The collection also analyzes the psychogeography of the Tama River, noting how the transition from ferries to modern bridge infrastructure in 1949 altered the area's ritualistic identity. Ultimately, the text argues that Yaguchi represents one of Japan's most preserved ecological systems of spiritual management, where historical violence was systematically converted into community protection over nearly seven hundred years.
