Reality Steve Podcast is made possible by:
This week we get our annual visit from expert Big Brother recapper Taran Armstrong. Even though this was recorded on Monday and airing Thursday to the public, good thing is that we pretty much know going into Thursday night's live eviction that one of the icons is going home. There isn't much mystery. But I spent a good amount of time recapping all the major storylines of the season with Taran from the Icons, to Yash's 180 from beginning of game til now, the showmance of Drew/Melody, my rule changes I'd be interested in seeing, and much, much more.

But one thing about to say about taren that maybe you do know or you don't know he isn't author now has a very excellent book out called Behind the Mirror inside the world of Big Brother came out of the end of last year. You can purchase it kindle audible wherever you get your books. On you can go purchase that behind the mirror inside the world of Big Brother written by Taren Armstrong. It's just a deep dive into the Big Brother franchise. So if you are a huge Big Brother fan. Yeah, this is the book for you.
This is the book you need and especially if you are someone who is watched from the beginning. Taren goes inside about his inside as you can get when it comes to this franchise not to mention his coverage of it. So again, I recorded this podcast with Taren on Monday. So the things that we talk about we pretty much know that yash at least when I recorded this did not use the power of veto. I don't see why he would have. So we assume devins Angela or Dia is going home tonight. Again, you would think it would be the whoever doesn't win blockbuster between D and devins. I mean, I guess Angela has a shot to win blockbuster. It's the only thing she has won this year. But you would think dear Devins is going to win and the loser is going to go home because why would anybody say Angela home she's not a threat to win this game. But we have a lot of stuff to talk about with Taren on today's podcast about the season.
I want to throw a couple of my theories out at him. See what he thinks because if I'm going to talk to an expert on this show, this is the guy to talk to and I just want to see what he thinks of my particular theories that I've thrown out this year. And I want to defend myself if he doesn't like them or he's like, maybe not. I want to I want to plead my case, so to speak. But we're going to talk about everything going on this season. We talk about well, the fact that we've had two seasons in a row now where big brother has seemingly straight away from the big brother game, meaning it's back to back seasons. We've had someone eliminated without being voted off by the house guests. I know this is something that Taren doesn't like. I don't like it. It's not big brother to me and you're putting too much stock into competitions. Yes. Last season Rachel Riley only had one chance. She had to beat that puzzle in a certain amount of time. Hailey had three different chances to win a competition and she didn't.
So she has no one to blame but herself. But if you were mad at the twist for Rachel right of the last season, regardless of how you feel about Hailey, it wasn't right for her to go out that way too. And seemingly this is what we're going to get going forward. I guess every season the twist is going to be, hey, by the way, somebody will be eliminated without being voted off by their house guests. And frankly, I just think it's wrong. Anyway, on the daily roundup earlier this morning is an interview with Andrew Wheeler from Age of Attraction. If you want to go check that out, I guess that I'm on vacation. I don't like to record stuff when I'm on vacation because I don't have to want to have to worry about possibly any audio issues using hotel Wi-Fi, all that stuff. So I like to have pre-recorded interviews when I go on vacation. But the daily roundup tomorrow is going to be a pre-recorded interview with Stephanie Parker from She's All Batch. But on Monday, it will be a new episode. I'm going to record it on Sunday night at the hotel and same with my sports daily.
So your Monday episodes will be brand new. But everything else on Thursday today and on your sports daily today and sports daily tomorrow and daily roundup today and daily roundup tomorrow, all pre-recorded interviews. I hope you understand why I do that. Nobody wants to have to do some work when I'm on the road. If anything, maybe you'll get some social media videos. But again, those are a lot quicker than they take me about, you know, 90 seconds to two minutes to record. So just know that's the schedule for today and tomorrow. Podcast number 512. All right. Let's bring them in. He is the foremost big brother recapper on the internet. Nobody puts in more time than this guy. He's an author last year. He released a book called Behind the Mirror Inside the World of Big Brother. He joins us for his annual visit on the podcast. Once we've pretty much made it to the jury portion of the show, it is Terran Armstrong. Terran, how you doing? I'm doing well.
How are you? I'm good. Quite a season of Big Brother. There's so much to talk about. We will save like tonight's eviction for the end because there's so many things that I want to talk to you about in regards to this season. So first off, I want to start with this. The return of the returning player and two players from another show. Again, just like anything on the internet, it's mixed. Some people hate icons, some people love the icons or whatever. But what has been your overall sense? And I guess just for you personally, do you like a returning big brother player and be do you like the fact that they brought in somebody from another CBS show or two people from a CBS show? Yeah, it's definitely mixed, but I think that's what I've enjoyed about the last couple of seasons because obviously last season we saw Rachel come back. Just bringing back one player, I think from Big Brother can work in a way as long as you
don't give them too many advantages to start. That's what we saw with Rachel. She was really like fighting tooth and nail all season long just to stay alive in the game. Whereas this season, they were kind of three veteran players and they were basically gifted powers in the first three weeks, which I thought was kind of overkill. Not to mention the fact that they were guaranteed that first HOH. So I don't like that aspect of it. I don't like giving them these advantages. It's very reminiscent of Paul in season 19 when the friendship bracelets and all the stuff that Paul got. But I do like having returning players, especially players like Rachel and Angela who are known as quantities who are going to bring drama and good television, whether you hate them or you love them, they're going to make you feel something. And I also like bringing in the survivor players. I think it pulls in fans from survivor who are very, you know, share a kinship with
the Big Brother fans. And it brings a new and sort of more fast paced element to the show. The survivor players really, they really play hard and fast because they're used to playing with a fourth of the time that the Big Brother lasts. So I like it. In general, I just wish maybe we didn't give them so much. Were you a D and Devons? Were you aware of their gameplay in the survivor world before they came into this? Yes. I'd watched all of their seasons. D is, I think, pretty widely considered to be one of the more dominant new era winners. Having run kind of the game to the end with one alliance that she was at the heart of, which I thought was very uniquely suited for Big Brother. But even still, she plays so hard and fast because of the survivor, I think DNA, that it has clashed at times with the slower Big Brother gameplay. And then there's Devons, who's known for his like trickery, winning immunities and playing
idols, which also like very not Big Brother. Like you don't really usually get to have a lot of trinkets on Big Brother. Of course he ends up getting a time in power or veto. But it's been interesting to see how weirdly suited he has seemed to be for the game, at least while he was in power, which is something that we didn't expect. He's used to not being in power, but turns out he was pretty good when he was in power. So it's been so fun to see people who you see on survivors, you see their edited sort of personalities and gameplay on the live feeds and you totally see a new angle of them. Yeah, you know, this is a hypothetical, but obviously we can't know it's a thing. Well, actually, I'll get to that later. Anyway, but I guess we can get you to it now. It's a hypothetical, but we can't really quantify it because it did not happen. But to me, D and Devons are the best game players this season.
Like I want to say, like, if we just take them off the show, that's the hypothetical. And we only went with 15 to start the show. Is there anybody who played Big Brother well, Game wise this season? You can talk about social game. I'm talking about everything. I just don't feel like anybody is playing the game outside of D and Devons. Yeah, you know what? I think that it, I think that what the show that season probably would have ended up looking like, I think Rome probably wouldn't have been taken out so early. But ultimately, I think Kamu was the guy who really had the chops to run this game and ultimately got sucked in by the icons and then taken out by a diamond power of veto. He was really good at competitions. And even though he slipped up here and there, he clearly knew the direction he needed to go in the game was able to talk his way out of a failed blown up alliance that the vets decided to destroy the red corner of the tool shed into a whole new section of the game
with Lala and Yash and Taylor. And I think that would have, I think that like had had it not been for the diamond power of veto, even with the vets in the game, Yash and Kamu might have just run this thing down. Yash having won nearly every competition. He's tried to win since his HOH reign like five weeks ago. If Kamu was still around, he'd probably be picking up those extra spots. I think that really those are the two you're looking at Kamu and Yash who probably would have been running this game down if not for the icon involvement. I think what's interesting and we'll find out at the end of the season is I think we all know that Yash was basically an alternate. And if you look at the early season, like I think in those first few days, I think a lot of us sat here and thought, gosh, just this guy isn't long for the game. I think they want him out. And if you would have asked me one week into the season, if Yash would still be around, I would have been like, no way.
And now he's kind of running the majority alliance in this thing. And it is, it is kind of surprising to say the least because I guarantee most people have the same thought process about this guy early on. Even if people that didn't know that he was an alternate. I think that he just came across as just a bro guy, growing out, didn't care to play the game. We didn't even know if he knew anything about this game. And here he is with a very good shot to get to the end now. Absolutely. You know, he went undrafted in our draft. We had to leave two people undrafted. And he was one of them. And, and, you know, for good reason, right? Like he was on the block in the first week. He very easily could have gone home. And his that archetype has been like Matt and Zay were the first two people out in 25 and 26. And what was like, here we go. Yash is going to be that guy. He won that blockbuster. He did a good job of integrating himself into the house. And I think most importantly, he really started to learn the game.
And he so clearly improved week after week that he would get caught in a couple things. He would learn from it. And then he would be better the next time. And, and his, his charisma and his compability have really won him a place in here. Then they were so scared of him. They decided to bribe him instead of trying to take a shot at him, which has really worked out in his favor more than it's hurt him at this point. And speaking of Paul, it's very reminiscent to me of Paul in season 18, who came into the game not really knowing what he was doing until slowly Paul started to learn the ways of the game. And, you know, by 19 was was running a whole packet of new players. So it's been interesting to see from Yash. And I really do think that he is probably right now the front runner to win. You know what's interesting is when the bribe was first brought up and we found out that do you want it. I was very vocal online about this is nothing $5,000 after taxes, you're getting about 3,300.
This isn't an enticement for anybody. Maybe get up to 10 or 15 and now we're talking. But now the bribe has turned into way more than you know what it isn't about the money. It's actually about the power behind this thing. And I don't know if CBS has done a really good job of explaining this bribe. And you know, I only go back to season 21. So I think the bribe was used before season 21 in the past. But taking a screenshot of what D had to read when she won that bribe and then everything that happened on Sunday night episode in regards to Angela calling Yash out saying, you're a liar. You agreed that that is a binding agreement that the next time you win HOH, you can't put up any of us icons and Yash is like, no, it's only D. But then he's saying in the confessional. So yeah, I'm lying to them. And I hope they believe my lie. I still don't really know. And I don't know if CBS is clarified it. But I guess we got to go with what the show was telling us in that the next time Yash wins HOH, he cannot put up any of the icons, even if and we know one of them is leaving tonight.
Angela D or Devons is gone after tonight. And if it is D, if he wins the next HOH or any HOH, he can't put up assuming D leaves tonight. He can't put up Devons or Angela or Devons leaves tonight. He cannot put up D or Angela the next time he wins HOH. Yes, that is our understanding of it. It is unfortunately like pretty complicated. And I feel like production has not done a good job of making it clear exactly what the limitations of the bribe were in the first place. Exactly who's allowed to lie about it and who's not allowed to lie about it because it's a rule on big brother that you're not allowed to use production as a strategy, which means if you have a power, you can't lie about what it does. And so D has interpreted this as did we that she's not allowed to lie about her power or how it was used. However, and this was in the episode on Sunday that they showed this house meeting where they exposed the bribe, they cut around that house meeting a ton in the episode because
they had to cut around the fact that D kept saying, I can't lie about this. Yash took the bribe. It's binding for all three. I'm not allowed to lie except bear it afterward when to the diary room and they told him she can lie about what the bribe offer was. She can't lie about what the bribe tower is. And she didn't know that and they didn't know that and we didn't know that. And so it's just it's so it's been very confusing about like what does it do? And then yes, we've also been wondering what happens if D leaves does that mean the bribe is done or does the bribe hold? And D has said that the bribe should hold which should be how the power works, which means if she was wrong or lying, production should have corrected her. So we believe that to be true. She has also said that it lasts up through the final three. So if say the final three were Yash Taylor and D and Yash wins the final three HOH and it's his first HOH since taking the bribe, he would be forced to take D to the final
two over Taylor no matter what he wanted to do. She said that on the feeds that also was not corrected by production. So theoretically that should be true. But I think the reality is that production's been really like fine by the sea of their pants on this one. And I just like, yeah, that makes sense. We'll do this. Oh, then another thing comes up. Yeah, we'd like for them to argue about what's the truth and what's not the truth. So we'll allow the life here, even though we wouldn't allow it here. And it's just been, it's been interesting. I've been kind of interested in following along the intricacies of like how you can use a contract in a game like this. I think that's been fun. But I do think that production needs to have been much more clear about exactly how it works ahead of time. Yeah. Yeah, no, for sure. It's been very, very confusing and still to this day we don't really know because like you said, there are things being said on the live feeds that you follow versus stuff that's being edited out of the CBS version. So we don't know what is true or what it's not. But that was going to be my next question was seemingly.
And I don't think it'll happen because I do think Yash will win an HOH before the final HOH of the season. But that was the talk online is what if he doesn't win an HOH all the rest of the season, and he gets to the final HOH and he wins that. And one of the icons is still around. Does he have to take them to the final two and the answer seems to be yes. And that just seems like an unbelievable power that almost is too much power given in this game. Right. I mean, it is incredibly powerful and it's why D and the rest of the icons have felt incentivized to keep Yash around. He's afraid of winning an HOH because he can't target them. In the second he wins it. He can't compete in the following one and they will have no more incentive to keep him around anymore. So they'll probably target him. Now obviously with one of them leaving tonight, that'll be less of a threat. But he's still now he's been lying about it. He's still bound by it with the other two.
And so it is a tricky spot for him. But I do still feel that in some ways it's helped more than it's hurt just because it's protected him. In other ways, it hasn't even mattered because even though he's throwing all the HOHs, he's winning all the videos. It doesn't need the HOHs because he's been so cleanly just cleaning up the the video competition. So it might he might get to a place where he's just like winning every competition that he that he tries to play down the road. And it's just been made a little more interesting by the fact that he's not able to win the HOHs as much. But there is an HOH that he absolutely should try to win. It's the best HOH for Yash to win if he doesn't win one up until this point is the final 4 HOH because at the final four, you have no power. You can you he would be forced to nominate whoever, but the nominations don't matter. It's just about who wins the video. Now during that HOH, if he were to win the video, he would have to keep one of the vets
safe. That's a lot less dangerous than having to nominate somebody in the way that he would if he were HOH before that. But if the bribe says the next HOH he wins, he can't put up an icon and he say he wins final four HOH and there's only three people left and one of them happens to be an icon. Then it becomes not all in void, I guess, as long as it makes mathematical sense was part of the official wording. So if he's forced to nominate an icon, then he has free reign. Just had a curiosity, where is this official wording? I thought I had a screenshot of what D. Redd and I didn't see it on there that said. That official wording was in the episode. When they made the deal, they repeated these words. And again, they made it seem like it was just a talk between them, but very clearly production was involved in this negotiation. And they made it clear when they said that his offer was that he was going to keep all three of them safe the next time he won HOH for the whole week, as long as it made mathematical sense, which I'm sure was a caveat that production made them include because of course, what
would he do if he had no choice? Then it then he's free of it. I thought I read something on social media that said it was after Barrett won HOH and put up the icons. And essentially there was this talk of, well, maybe he should only put up two or three of the icons and try and backdoor Yash and then he's like, no, my thought process is, if I put up all three icons, that guarantees one of them is going home because even if one of them wins Power of Edo and one of them wins Blockbuster, that means that what or at least one of them is still going to be on the block on Thursday night. So the thought process was why didn't one of the icons, I guess, I'm trying to flesh this out as I think about it, why didn't one of the icons tell everybody in the house, hey, and I guess they did because they're saying he has to put up one of us. So you guys, you guys are all going up next week, you know, or basically going to Barrett
and saying, don't put us up because Barrett, you're going up next week just based on the numbers if Yash wins an HOH because it can't be any of us and there's only four of you. I give Barrett if that were the case, why are you doing it? Am I saying that right? Should they completely? Yeah. And said you guys were to Barrett, if you put us up, hey, everyone else, you're going up the next time he wins. Yeah, you're completely correct. And that is exactly what they tried to do with that house meeting. They were basically like, hey, just so you know, you can come after us all you want. But if, and this is what Devon says, he said, if I win an HOH, I can choose who I want to nominate, whether it's going to be a retaliation against you or somebody else. If Yash wins HOH, he has no choice. He has to nominate you because he won't have another option. And that is true. Now the tricky part is Yash denied that. He said, no, I only made the deal with D and Barrett believes Yash, even though Yash is
lying. Now Barrett is the only one that believes Yash. The rest of the house all believes that Yash is lying, but Barrett's the one in charge. And so even if that was like, okay, even if he believed him and then was like, okay, now I need to think about this. What's more threatening a trio of three people who are now potentially going to come after me or Yash who is forced to come after me. Even if he wanted to have that thought process, he still hasn't because he doesn't believe that it's a true fact. Now that doesn't really change much in the first place. His renom would have been Yash because he is still looking at Yash as a threat in the game. He's winning all these competitions. But in his mind, he needs to take down a couple of the icons before he can look at Yash, which is probably on the stake. He should probably look at Yash, maybe one icon and then Yash, but who knows? So I want to talk about something. I think both of you, both of us agree on it. And that is for the last two seasons, the twist of the summer.
Last season it was white-locust and Rachel Riley was eliminated by not winning a competition. She was not eliminated by pretty much how everybody in the history of the show has been eliminated, voted on by your house guests. This season they bring back the twist of the summer and it's this kind of the same thing, but kind of not because Hayley, you know, Rachel only had one chance. She had to finish that circle puzzle in a certain amount of time she didn't, she was gone. Hayley had at least three chances. She has really nobody to blame but herself. Yet, as I said on social media, if you were upset how Rachel Riley got eliminated, regardless of how you feel about Hayley as a person, a lot of people have opinions about her, you should still feel bothered by the fact that again, for the second season in a row, this show has strayed from their norm of eliminated by your house guests. And I'm just wondering, and I guess we won't know until next summer, are we going to get a third season in a row next summer of at least one person every season now
is just going to be stuck with right around jury time, right around halfway through the season. We're going to have this. Oh, yeah, by the way, you didn't finish this competition in time or you didn't win in a, in a chance to save yourself. You're going to be eliminated because you couldn't perform in a comp versus eliminated by your house guests. I don't like it. It's not big brother to me. I know you don't like it either, but explain and expand on it even more about what your issue is with it. Yeah, I mean, I sure hope we don't. It number one, I just find it boring. Number two, they completely screwed it up this year. They couldn't even fit it into one episode and ended it on cliffhanger, which was just a monstrous screw up in my opinion. And number three, it's not big brother. Like it's not, it's not interesting to watch a bunch of like little carnival games in a row. In my opinion, I think that there are much more interesting ways they could go about this. They could make, they could implement a lot more social strategy elements.
They could really pit people against each other and cause more arguments and debates and all kinds of like fun, tension building stuff, I think rather than just like, you know, I'm going to have to pick my ally here. I'm going to have to pick my enemy here. And then you guys go out and walk in a balance beam for two hours. It's just like, come on. So it's frustrating and it doesn't feel good to watch. I wasn't Haley's biggest fan. I thought, in fact, Haley was probably like the best case scenario in terms of a player to leave. Sorry to Haley, but like she was somebody who was not super likely to have left otherwise and was just a number for the icons at that point. Her leaving really opened up the game in an interesting way. And I think we're seeing that play out right now, which is, which is nice. But it still didn't feel good to watch her leave like that. It still didn't feel like big brother. It felt like I was watching the challenge or something, which I don't, I don't really like the challenge like that. That said, I do think we're probably going to see it again.
My, my theory at least is that they've implemented this blockbuster twist. And I like the blockbuster twist. I think it's a good one. I think it's improved a lot of things in the, in the sort of structure and the pacing of the show. But they often make the blockbuster, I think last too long. And because the blockbuster goes on for so long, there's usually a spot where they would do a double eviction. And we love our double evictions. Two people evicted in one week. It's usually a part of their schedule. They like to have a lot of players. And so they got to get rid of those players. But you can't do a double eviction with the blockbuster in play because you have to do a blockbuster at the start of the episode. And then you have to do three knobs, Vito and another blockbuster. That's way too many competitions smudged into one live episode. And so I think, and now obviously you could, if you wanted to, if you really wanted to make it happen, you could just eliminate the blockbuster for the double eviction only and then bring it back if you wanted to. But I think their thought process was, let's find something else to do instead of a double eviction while we run the blockbuster.
And this is what they came up with. They they reached into reindeer games and they came up with a hamster wheel twist, which obviously didn't work for many reasons. And so then they tried to improve it. And I thought it was slightly improved for what it's worth with the contest thing, but still very bad. And I think that they really want to keep trying to iterate on this as like a replacement for the double eviction in the blockbuster era, which is not to say that they won't still have double evictions once the blockbuster ends. But that's my theory as to why we will likely keep seeing it, even though I don't think most of us love it much. So I think last week or maybe end of last week CBS released their schedule for the rest of the season, I think next Thursday. Yeah, is a two hour show. So maybe we do get a live eviction double eviction next Thursday, just because we've got two hours. They can fit all those comps into into one. So they have an officially said next Thursday is a live a double eviction, but we know it's two hours. So that is the theory.
Yeah, last season the blockbuster ended up after the final seven round. Next week will be the final seven. I think we'll do one final blockbuster. It will start that Thursday episode. Then we'll go into a double eviction blockbuster will be over the final six round will be all during that two hour episode. And then after that Thursday night, we'll like to be down to the final five. Okay, so let's say that two icons are not sitting in the final two chairs. Now, let's just say. I don't know, one of them is and I don't even want to throw out a name because we have no idea who it could be. But let's just say one is sitting in the chair against somebody else. Two part question number one, do you think the other house despises the other house, the other side of the house. And we have heard it a lot on the live feeds and I don't know if it's just emotion. People getting caught up in the moment, but we have heard plenty of people in the yash melody Taylor camp.
Just talk about the fact that they don't like the icons and I would never vote for them. So if an icon is sitting there at the end, we can't, I'm not going to predict who they're sitting against, but any icon sitting there against somebody. Do you think the other side of the house would carry through with that and just not vote for an icon because they don't want an icon win. I don't think it's a hard and fast rule for them in the way that maybe it was on like a big brother 14 where they all made like a pact like we're never going to let a vet win this. Never going to let a returning winner, especially when this they have talked about it, but they haven't like been like we vow they will never win. In fact, there has been some conversation from players like Taylor like listen if they play the better game, gotta give it to them. Not to mention the fact that they will have at least two votes from the other two icons in the jury, who will also likely be campaigning for them on the jury. They could theoretically get somebody like Taylor who was very open to voting for an icon.
It easily gets somebody like Drew who has been as Josh likes to say baby boy Drew could easily vote for his dad devins or something along those lines. So I would not say it's impossible by any means, though it is maybe a slight uphill battle here for them. Yeah, with that said, the second part of the question was let's just say no icon wins this game. So that means you have a five person five people that could win it. Josh Melody Drew Barrett or Taylor. My gosh, there's no chance in the world that Melody wins this game. I don't think I just she has and it's not about just because she's the only person in the house that hasn't won anything all season long. Only person has a one in outside of somebody who was obviously eliminated early, but that is still in the game that has yet to win anything. I don't see a scenario where Drew wins it. I guess unless he's sitting next to Melody in the final two, I don't know if he's played a good enough game.
You know, again, Taylor's edit on CBS has been way different than what it has been on the live feeds because people have basically other house guests have complained all season that she doesn't do anything that she just lays around all day and it's not shown on the live feed. So that really leaves only yosh and Barrett as possible winner. So if an icon doesn't win this game, is this literally yosh or Barrett? Is there any other scenario where you can make a case for Taylor Drew or Melody to win this game? Well, speaking of sort of like gaming the jury, the vets have been talking a lot about who they wouldn't wouldn't vote for and they likely would vote as a block of three. There's seven jury votes. So three is incredibly powerful. And they really don't want to vote for Barrett if they can help it. They'd actually much prefer to vote for Drew, at least so far. Because it was funny thing is, yeah, it was loyal them all game and Barrett just turned on them. I get it. Well, well, this is the funny part because all season long, they've not trusted Drew despite the fact that Drew has been their biggest lap dog for really the most part of the season.
And so even though Drew is still trying and was still trying to keep them safe this week, they think he's behind Barrett's move. They think that Drew is the one holding the puppet strings. And so they're actually falsely giving Drew credit for the move. So they're mad at him, but also think that he's the bigger player and more like more mastermindy player than Barrett. And so they'd prefer to give it to Drew, the guy that's behind the move, than Barrett, the guy that's the face of the move. Well, I guess it would come true at all. Yeah, I guess it would come down to let's just say Drew and Barrett end up being the final two, a final two that they made early on. But then again, everyone makes alliances early on. Who knows how true it was, but they could say like we made an alliance early on for us to go to the final two. I guess it would come down to the speech. Barrett would have to convince the Vets. You think he did this? He was behind me putting you guys up. No, I mean, Barrett, we've seen in the confessionals, but we haven't seen the Vets see what he's saying, which is, yeah, I fanboyed for eight weeks.
I just sat here and did whatever they said. And now it's time to play my game. I thought it was a genius move. I thought he had to do it. And I have no problem. It was the best game move of the season, at least so far for me was Barrett putting up the icons. I get it. He should have done it. He followed through with it. He admitted his game play for first eight weeks was, yeah, I'm just being their lapdog is doing what they say. But now it's time to play my game. I think you made the move, the right move at the perfect time. So yeah, I guess it all comes down to who's sitting next to who at the end. But I just think there's so many people that you can't outside of the icons and even Angela. I don't think there's any place in the world where if Angela sat in the final two, she gets even one vote. She's done nothing. This whole game to me at least. I just last to be a part of that threesome. I think that the thing to always make sure to remember is just how long big brother is. And even though we are approaching the end game, there's basically there's close to an entire survivor season left of gameplay left. Right. And that's what I think the survivors aren't really paying attention to.
I think the thing is that like, yeah, you're going to head to the jury house. One of you tonight. And you're going to be there for like 20 plus days. And there's that a lot can change in that time, not only in your own mind, but also like it was just around this time that Morgan started winning competitions in last season. Somebody could just start winning competitions. And it's probably yosh. Let's be real. But like, let's say all of a sudden, melody starts winning competition after competition. Is that likely now. But if it happened, the whole game changes. And all of a sudden, melody looks like a much bigger player than she had been before. So there's still, there's still room here to maneuver. Though I do think the reason a lot of that possibility gets sucked up is that yosh is still there. And I think yosh is so much more likely to win so many of these competitions in the end game. That's it's going to be hard to accumulate any kind of win equity as long as he's there beating you. Of the people remaining, you know, we don't know who's going out tonight. We assume it's going to be whoever doesn't win blockbuster between D and Devons.
We don't think Angela is going to win blockbuster. But let's let's just take the scenarios. Okay. Let's just say Angela wins blockbuster tonight. I think based on what I'm hearing or what I'm seeing online, they'll vote Devons out and keep D. That's what the plan had been. It has been. So, you know, it's, it's what particular like melody had been pushing for. There's relative consensus that Devons has been a bit better. At competitions, though there's certainly a chance that, you know, that minds could change as they are want to do in the big brother house. But as of where we're talking it's looking more like Devons than D for sure. Yeah. And if Devons or D wins blockbuster, certainly the other one is going home. There's no reason to keep them when you have Angela there, who nobody looks at as a threat to this. I think thinking would be why don't we give somebody who's an actual player in this game a chance versus somebody. I just don't see the mindset being that.
But we've seen it on survivor happen where I want to keep somebody who's a good player in this game and not just drag some dead carcass to the end, which essentially Angela would be at this point. But yes, we if D or Devons, the one that doesn't win blockbuster, I'm assuming is going home tonight. They all mostly seem to recognize because they're all in big enough fans of the game that like we've reached the point where it's just about how can I make my chances of winning a competition better. And so the end devins are just even though Angela certainly is capable of winning competitions. There are going to be some competitions like this week's veto where Angela went into the be comics saying, I knew I was never going to win this. And when you have a player who is going to go into who could walk into a competition and go, well, I can't win this. That's more valuable for you to have around than somebody who's going to be competitive in every single one. So this season I have come to two hot big brother takes that I want to run by you. I don't know if you'll agree with that. Maybe you won't. I'm still going to present my case.
Number one is I don't think that they should read the vote counts early on in the season, at least through. I don't know maybe up to jury. I think Julie should just say so and so has been eliminated. Don't give the jury counts because for the most part we know this outside of last season and you're better at this than I am because you have way better memory retention of these seasons. It just seems like from the beginning of the game for the first five or six jury votes, it's usually a landside. It's either a donut or somebody gets one vote. And that's the way it was. I believe the first six votes of this season. It was something to one or it was a complete shut out. And I think that you will get more blind sides if you don't have Julie announced the vote count because everybody knows like, oh, well, I was I want to go this way, but I decided not to because that wasn't the house vote. So I just voted with the house. If they know that the vote count isn't being told publicly, you might be able to pull off a blind side. So what do you think about no vote counts being.
I think it's a very good idea. It's something that has been floating around for a while. I think that years ago when it was talked about one of my potential counterpoints was that the way that the show had been going at that point is that big majority alliances were controlling these votes anyway. And if you didn't know the vote kind of ahead of time, those alliances, even more incentivize to be like really iron fist ruling like you are not allowed to vote any other way. And then people might play scared to vote another way, like a rogue way here or there. But I think that's that's not, you know, enough of a point against it with the potential that it brings not to mention the fact that now that we're in the blockbuster era. And the votes are much less certain to begin with because there are three different possibilities. It's way harder to lock down all of your votes exactly the way that you want them to be. And there's a lot more room to be like, you know what? I'm down for you in this scenario. But in this scenario, I really disagree. For instance, Lala versus Taylor on the block last week.
There were four people who all wanted Lala to stay in for Taylor to go. And the only reason those four people out of the six voters didn't vote that way is because they didn't have a chance to talk and realize that the numbers were there and they were all too scared to stand out as one of those votes. If the vote count hadn't been read, those four votes might have all just been like, well, this is my preference. And I'll see how it goes. And Taylor might have gone in Lala might have stayed. And maybe that's not like the specific results you're hoping for. But the point is that yes, especially with the blockbuster, I think not reading the the vote count can be really effective in getting a lot more interesting votes. Not to mention the discourse that's going to happen in the house afterwards. If there is a quote unquote blindside. First off, you're going to get more blindsides by doing this. There's just no way around it because so many more people would be willing to not go with the house vote knowing that hey, all it's all Julie's going to say is so and so you've been eliminated. And then it's just a giant scramble of who's going to lie and who isn't about what I voted for her. I voted for him this day. And there'd be no way to find out nobody will ever be proven right or be proven wrong. And it'll be some giant chaos and blindsides.
And I guess that's what I want out of my reality dating competition reality competition shows. Sometimes it's dating. Yeah, you're 100% 100% second by the way. It's like there are it's it's almost a meme at this point that I often say that when people are campaigning for votes, they count votes. And it's and it's ridiculous. It's stupid to count votes because it doesn't actually matter. You're like, okay, I need five votes of nine. How can I get to five? I can grab this person, this person, this person. That's not how votes work on Big Brother. You're either getting the house and the majority, like the big the the Alliance that already knew that they were going to vote together. Or you're getting nobody like that's generally how it works. You're not going to be able to like peel one person from this group, one person from this group. And then this person here that I have a relationship with because nobody wants to stand out and vote against their group. But if the vote count is never revealed, all of a sudden that style of campaigning can work. I have a relationship with this person here who's willing to throw me a vote. I have a relationship with this person over here's willing to throw me a vote.
And they're free to do that without ever getting caught. And if it works, great. Big chaos. How did it happen? Sure. But there are a lot more incentivized to take that risk. So in the beginning of the game, I was all about, I never, I don't think I watched the live feeds. I watched the walk on. That's the only thing I've watched on the live feeds, but I've seen so many clips and following the Instagram accounts. Just to recap, okay, what did I miss? And I followed it along. And then as this has happened like three seasons in a row now. As we get deeper into the season and less and less players, I guess I follow it less. And I don't know if it's just because. Well, there's less people in there and there's less chaos going on. All of them, you pretty much know what they're talking about. So I guess in recent weeks, last probably a couple of weeks, I've not been not as active on reading about what has been happening on the live feeds, but I did want to talk about this Drew and Melody situation because I'm confused on these two.
And I know there's a lot going on like I read something last night where they they're talking about acting or trying to pretend that they are a showman or aren't I'm so confused and I know that you know the answer to this. So that's what I want to let you in on this. Number one, have they really not kissed all season long. And number two is Melody playing him or does she actually like him, but she likes him, but she doesn't want to act on it on TV for friends and friends. And family sake, but after the game, she absolutely will be attracted to him and want to date him, post shot like I'm so confused. Anything's on the table for me. So I'm going to just bow down to you on this and whatever you tell me, I'll be like, OK, because I know you know more about this and I do what is this status between these two, because I'm so confused. I can give you my best interpretation of it. So, so first of all, Melody had what she called, I believe like a situation ship before coming.
She's shouted him out a couple of times while voting. I think that's been a huge part of the reluctance, not to mention the fact that she's just generally reluctant to do go too far in any direction on camera. Has it he from what I read early on? Has it he unfollowed her on social media since he's been watching this? Is that been the story? I've heard that I don't know if it's confirmed, but I've have heard that. Of course, she wouldn't know that in the house. Drew also was like pretty recently out of a relationship. So I think that's another thing that like that had been I think like a pretty long term relationship. So that also I think contributes towards some of the reluctance. He also has expressed that he's very reluctant to do anything on camera. So that alone has been like a barrier between them. But on top of that, like, Drew's like just a sketchy player in first play like nobody trusts him ever because he's too sarcastic all the time. And he's been working on opposite sides of the house as melody for almost the entire game. He calls it Romeo and Juliet. I think in this on the episode.
And she found out that he'd been lying to her the whole time. And so she's pretty pissed off about it. She still thinks that he's like just a simp for devins and the vets. And so that pisses her off and turns her off, I think. And he gets frustrated with her because she doesn't trust him, even though he thinks that she sometimes should and sometimes shouldn't. And so they have this interesting dynamic where they have opposite game interests. And but, but they do come together and they very clearly do like each other. There's a lot of chemistry there. They've they've spent like almost every single night for the last like two weeks up until three in the morning, just the two of them talking, gazing into each other's eyes. As far as we're aware, they have not kissed. There's no been no actual move made. He loves to pick her up and put her down way more than it's almost to a point where I'm like, if we get out of the house and melody starts doing her post show interviews, I want someone to ask her, are you fine with this guy constantly picking you up because it doesn't seem like, you know, and when women get put in uncomfortable positions situation sometimes they just laugh it off.
And she's not going to want to make a big scene out of it. But in a lot of the clips that I've seen of him picking her up, it's not like she's inviting him. He just does it. And she kind of goes along with it, maybe not to ruffle any feathers. My I cannot speak for melody, of course, my my interpretation of it is this is like, it's kind of an unspoken thing that like it's a way for them to be close without doing something actionably intimate. If that makes sense. And so it's something that they are both mostly okay with. There was one time when he was tried to like hug her. It was right after Mal or he left and she was like, no. But but aside from that, I think it's I think it's generally something that's invited. But again, I can't I can't speak for melody. But yeah, I like there's there's there was an instance the other day where you know she was like, I think pretty clearly trying to, you know, entice him to come into it. And he did.
And you know, they they have their own kind of language. It seems, but it's again, it's none of that's concrete. And what is weird is something that you brought up earlier is the fact that all the laying in the beds close to each other, whether it was a knee touch or hand holding or arm around each other. For a lot of the season for two people that were literally on completely opposite ends of the house. It was kind of amazing because usually when two people are like that in the house and you can probably go through the history of quote unquote showman's is those people were voting together all the time. And we're literally talking over where we going, where are we leaning and these two couldn't have been more opposite because Drew was on the cross over side or the red corner side. And melody never was yet he was with this curl all the time. I don't have we seen anything like this two people opposite sex close to each other all game. But not in the game sense where they were voting together and constantly running stuff back to each other about the game because Drew clearly has been lying to her.
The whole game, which she now knows, but have we seen anything like this before. There have been a couple of times where it's been a little bit like this ironically Drew and Diane in season five were at opposite sides of the house for much of the season, but they eventually came together and then kind of ran the end game together. Kyle and Alyssa in season 24. They were in a group together, but he peeled off of it because of information that she gave him. He forms the leftovers with Joseph and the rest of them. And then they're working at sort of opposite ends for a little while. But again, he ends up betraying the leftovers for Alyssa and they came back together briefly. And so usually how this works is like even if you are working at opposite ends, you eventually betray one of the ends in order to work with your even Cory and America even who are sometimes involved in the similar things, but but Cory eventually betrays Cere in order to save America.
So it happens, but it doesn't usually last this long. And at some point you expect they will come together and actually work together. And maybe that is still coming. But right now it is, it's probably one of the longest I've seen what seems like a showman's work against each other for such a long time. You know, the second hot take that I had that I got sidetracked on and this is something that when I put it out there on social media, most people said, yeah, I don't know if I agree with that Steve or I don't think I would go along with that. And that is this. But at least up until jury. I think you should be able to compete in the H oh, every week, everybody competes every week. And here's my thinking and you're going to know this better than I am so I want your input. Obviously now we know you win H oh, you can't compete the following week as far as I know, at least from season 21 on that I've been watching. It's not like you've had somebody that won week one.
Week two wins week three, six weeks four wins week five, six weeks six wins weeks. Like it's not like even in the current iteration of what the H oh, H comp is allowing you to do somebody just doesn't win every other H oh, if I'm mistaken in 11 weeks this season, we only had one person who's won two H oh, and that was D and let's be honest, we have no idea if D would have won the first H oh, if she actually had to compete against 16 other people, she only had a compete against two. So why not and I only say this because I watch the challenge, I watch survivor. If you win something in the challenge, you're able to compete in the following week. If you win immunity and survivor, it's not like you have to sit out the following week. The argument that I have gotten online from people is, well, if everyone can compete in the H oh, H every week, it has the ability for someone to just steamroll and dominate the house. Yeah, I guess if it happened, but I just don't think that would happen because of the randomness of these challenges and these comps.
So just mathematically to win the first comp of the season, you got to be at least this season, you would have had to beat 16 people, if you were allowed to compete in two, you would have had to beat 15 people, then you would have to beat in 14 people. I just don't think it's possible. But then we have the randomness of the comps, which is you got something like the wall comp where yes, strength plays a role, you know, you got your arms are shaking your legs are shaking. And then another comp is can you run across a balance beam in under a minute or hey, slide this disk across the table and landed on a number like I don't think somebody would win four or five in a row. If you were able to compete in every H oh, what are your thoughts? I don't think you're necessarily wrong that it would be unlikely, especially in the pre jury phase for somebody to win four or five in a row. But I guess my pushback would be why even give them the chance because that would be terrible television. And if it happened, we'd be like, what in the world, why did you change this rule to let this happen? And we're all so bored by one person ruling the house. I think that, you know, in my mind, if I'm running a show, I want to make sure that situations like that aren't even possible because what nightmare that would be right.
Yeah, I guess I guess I didn't take that consideration of because my thinking is I don't think anybody will win three, four or five in a row. But you're saying, well, what if somebody does then there have been there have been times like heist and for instance, I believe one four competitions in a row in the early portion of big brother 25. And that's because he won like H oh, H Vito then skipped an H oh, H then Vito then H oh, H or something along those lines. And so it's like sometimes those streaks do just happen just, you know, you play enough competitions. You are going to have those kinds of anomalies. And unlike shows like survivor in the challenge, the H oh, H is such an incredibly powerful position. And it completely dictates the outcome of the entire week of show is three whole episodes are dictated by that one H oh, H. So one person being in charge even for two weeks in a row can feel like such a slog on big brother that six whole episodes of the same person in charge, no power shift, no nothing. So I do think you have to be pretty cautious about it.
Yeah, and that was my thing was it would have to be in the early going when there's a lot of people competing. I wouldn't do I would stop it at jury. And just because when you're only competing against six other people, yeah, you've win if you win it at if you win it at when they're seven left and then you're able to compete at it when they're six left. Yeah, you're having to beat fewer people. My thing was it was more about the numbers and you know, a lot of people have said, I don't want to win that first H oh, H some people who even said like, so it's almost like, why would anybody want to win for a row? Because the second they don't win, they know they're the biggest target and they're going to go up, but we have this to go out of veto and blockbuster. So, okay, we can throw that one out the window. That's not going to happen. And I never thought CBS would ever do it. I was just kind of thinking out loud of why not let these people do it. Anyway, all right, one thing I want to end with and this is something that maybe it has happened more often than not. But the online discourse this season and I don't know if it's been different from the past seasons.
Stay in age of social media, the fan base just seems to get more toxic and toxic, I deal with it in the bachelor world, the survivor people deal with it and survivor world. Big brother people are dealing with it. And again, I'm online, I see a lot of things, but man, this season seems like a lot of negativity towards the fan from the fan base, you know, just very vocal about this, you know, going after devins wife going after devins kids saying things. About them bringing family members into it. I mean, you cover it way more extensively than I do has this season been worse than past seasons or has it been part for the course for you. I mean, I would say it's mostly part for the course. Obviously, like anybody going after family members is just is just disgusting behavior. And unfortunately is relatively common in in the fan base, even going back 20 years, like sending emails, sending letters, calling jobs has always been a huge part of just like the toxic fervor that the show can sometimes inside.
What I will say is I think that one aspect of this season that's been that maybe causes a little bit of it to seemingly boil up a little more than it normally does is, I think ironically that, you know, in the past couple of seasons for the most part, the fan base has been generally on the same page or at least there's been a large majority that thinks one way. And so it's like there's a little bit of a war between the minority opinion and the majority opinion, but that's and that's toxic and whatever, but that's mostly it this season. It's kind of all over the place. There's not really one significant rooting interest. There are the survivor icon fans who love the icons and hate anybody that doesn't like the icons. There are the people who hate how the icons steamrolled the whole time and they really want the icons to go down that the people that love yash and are like the yash cans and there are people that love drew and the showman's the melody the melody drew.
There are people that love bear it. And on one hand, this is kind of cool like fan bases all over the place. But on the other hand, it's like an all out war out there. It's it's a brawl and there are so many different factions that it's causing all kinds of stuff to get thrown everywhere. And it's always, you know, I just like for somebody like me who commentates, especially when there's so many different like strategic things to analyze what is the bear its best move, what is these best move. And there are so many different ways to look at it. And I try to look at as many of them as possible that then also tends to piss off everybody when there's so many different warring factions, whereas if there's like, well, obviously the move here is this. Then it's like you either agree or disagree, but if it's like, well, there's this way you could look at it for D and there's this way that you could look at it for bear it. Then it becomes also you hate D and you hate bear it and you but you love bear it and you hate D and you love D and you hate bear it.
And it's like, you know, you kind of want everyone to get on the same page about like, who are we all hating and not hating at this point. But, but I think that's part of it. I think it's like it's just such a brawl out there because there's no one big narrative that's happening this season. So one thing that when you were saying that I was kind of looking online and I've I've dabbled in in Calhsi before when it comes to reality shows and you know it's different. You know, I got spoiled on Calhsi before last Survivor season even started with the brother you can't do that because it's still, you know, it's a live show. You don't know you can only guess, but in past weeks when I looked D was the front runner on Calhsi to win this thing. Now I don't know the last time you looked, but right now it's Yash and bear it number two right now on Calhsi makes sense, which again, I said this when common was still in the house and they, I'm not that they could listen to me, but they played it like they needed to play it.
I need to give him it was kind of like the Tucker situation. You needed to give him the fewest amount of chances to save himself, meaning you can't if you want them gone, you have to back door him and you have to give him just that one blockbuster chance. And that was the way and they, you know, we're able to do it with the diamond power of veto. But now, you know, with only what seven eight people left, I just don't think there's any way that Yash goes over three. Blockbuster's going away pretty soon. We know that. But again, I don't see a way a week and where Yash doesn't win H oh H or the power of veto. He's too dominant, especially against the people that are going to be left assuming D or Devon's leaves tonight. I just, you know, Melody and Angela, basically are not a competition. Taylor hasn't shown. I think she's won one all season long. So it's like he's only competing against Barrett and Drew and whoever stays tonight between D and Devons. Like, I just don't think he's going over to and that would be the only way to get him out is he's up there and doesn't win veto one week and doesn't win H oh H and I just don't see that happening.
So yeah, it does seem like Yash is the guy to beat at this point, which is funny because for the longest time, D was at the top of the list on Calci and she was absolutely the favorite. She might be gone tonight. She might be. Yeah, I mean, again, think about it. When Yash won his H oh H, he won H oh H and veto that week. The following week D won H oh H and she offered him the bribe and he didn't compete in a single competition that week. He didn't compete in H oh H because he's outgoing. He didn't he wasn't on the block didn't compete in veto or blockbuster. The following H oh H or sorry, then they got to the. The whole of the legal contest thing. He did lose to D, but he was second to D in that stacking competition. And then they got to the Kaley and Lala in the final contest, then the following H oh H, he could have won, but he intentionally threw. Then he won that veto and then this week's H oh H, we don't know if he could have won, but almost certainly he threw this one too.
So he's basically either one or come in a close second in that one competition every competition. He's tried to win since winning both H oh H and veto. Now the the only thing is that I think in particular that double eviction that might be coming up next Thursday. If he's still throwing H oh H is because he's afraid of what he'll have to do if he wins, then that takes away one of the two right and now of a sudden he only has one. And if it's double eviction and it's quick one small mistake that could be it for him, but that's only if people are actually willing to vote him out because the icons don't want him out because they he know they know he can't target them. So he might actually even survive a vote, even if he does manage to get stuck on the block at the end of a week. So I do think he's really looking pretty good here for the most part. He said a crazy 180 this season because he was just not on my radar for the first couple weeks. I'm like, this guy is a clown.
I can't I can't with his dialect and his bro, let's go bro. It was just too much for me. And now I'm like, he's the front runner and I would not be shocked in the least bit if he wins this thing. But it's crazy to think that because I never would have thought that in the first couple weeks of this season at all. Anyway, Terran, thank you so much for coming on man. I appreciate it. Love having you on. Once a year to break all this stuff down again, you wrote your book came out end of last year. Behind the mirror inside the world of big brother and get it where ever you get your books. I know it's doing well. It has been the response to it been for you and how rewarding was it for you for all the work you put in over the years to put it into a book and and have people buy it react to it all that stuff. I mean, it was incredible. It was a national bestseller, which was amazing. I mean, I think the reviews have all been so, so good and glowing, which like, you know, you hope for, but like you don't really know.
I was like, I think it's good, but hopefully other people do. And it's also like obviously, or maybe not obviously, but you would hope that especially fans of mine who already listened to me would enjoy the book. But what's really especially gratifying is seeing a bunch of people who don't know who I am who just picked up the book who maybe didn't even know big brother that well, who all also picked it up and also really enjoyed it. And so that was really, really cool for me. And yeah, it was super gratifying. It's really like genuinely a bucket list item for me that I'm just I'm so happy and proud that I was able to do it. It's been it's been a remarkable privilege to to have been able to in the first place. So it's really well congrats on that. And I think I think another cool thing is getting the shout out on BB unlocked this season. I mean, that was pretty cool because it's almost like everybody knows who you are in this franchise and knows the work that you do. But as far as I know, you're never been acknowledged by CBS. Have you before BB unlocked?
No, no, you know, they talk about me on the feeds a decent amount. Though they sometimes try to cut that. I was told by by Taylor and Derek, they said it a few times trying to make sure that they wasn't cut out. But yeah, it was very cool. And listen, I also like I just commentate about the show. I don't deserve a spot on the show. And I'm also pretty critical of it at times. So I would not false the producers for like not wanting me to be acknowledged. But I don't think that's really the case. They did they did include the shout out. And I know that you know, this is some of them like me over there. So that was very, very cool. And I think that's the way I think about the work that you do. I mean, the amount of time you put into this during these three months every summer is unbelievable. It gives you nine months to recharge every year. I know you do other stuff during those nine months, but nobody puts in the work that you do during the show. We all, we all appreciate it. So Terran again, thanks for coming on man. Appreciate it.
I love being touched and talk to you again next summer. For sure. Sounds good. You got to man. See it. Thank you so much to Terran for coming on. Really appreciate it. The best in the business. I don't know how this guy does it. I know he basically takes, I mean, I'm sure he does other things, but he doesn't do him as extensively in the nine months that big brother isn't on the air when this guy is basically recapping the live feeds every day for three months. That is a chore that I have to give him credit for. It's why he's the best. It's why this book behind the mirror inside the world. The big brother is doing as well as it did and people inside the reality TV world, especially the big brother world, all absolutely love it. So thank you to Terran for coming on. Thank you for listening everybody. I really appreciate it. Following an Apple podcast also rate interview, but you got hit play. It's the only way it counts as a download.
