About this episode
As it's Easter Sunday, Earwash is going a bit more respectable this week with an intellectually improving selection of interesting words and their definitions from Douglas's notebooks. But this being Earwash, there's also a disturbingly named cactus. Happy Easter

earwash, the pallet cleansing podcast. Welcome to earwash, the podcast that, like my washing machine right now, rotates at a high speed in order to clean things, in this case your ears. As today is Easter Sunday, I thought it would be best to do something a little more wholesome than usual to provide some very educational Easter eggs from the Easter bunny of my mouth. And so I'm providing you with a bounteous harvest of words from my notebooks. So if you go and hunt for them, see if you can find them. Have fun. From the notebook of Douglas Brook, volume 156, 23rd of August 2025 to 21st of November 2025. Wonderful words. Thana-Topsis, a word which means a view of death. Apparently it comes from a poem, schnocked means drunk.
Rotogreviewer, r-o-t-o-g-r-a-v-u-r-e, a word which he means, a type of intaglio printing process, also known as Gravio for short. On a related note, intaglio is a word which he means, the family of printing and printmaking techniques in which the image is incised into a surface and the incised line or sunken area holds the ink. Diesel, B-E-A-Z-E-L, it's an obscure word used by PG Woodhouse, as indeed are most of his words. And as far as I can tell, it means a young woman, with overturns of sexual precocity. Bezel, B-E-Z-E-L, a word which he means, a grooved ring or frame holding the cover of a watch-faced, mobile phone, etc. in position. Cushonari, C-O-C-H-O-N-N-E-R-I-E. A word which he means, a dirty thing, worthless thing, junk or rubbish. Miswaj, M-E-S-S-U-A-G-E. A word which he means, a dwelling house without buildings and land assigned to its use.
Approbrius, a word which he means, expressing scorn or criticism. A Pothagym, a word which he means, a concise saying or maxim, an aphorism. In the notebook of Douglas Brook, volume 160, 26th November 2025 to 23rd December 2025. Crambo, a word which he means, a game in which a player gives a word or a line of verse which each of the other players must find a rhyme to. Calabash, a word which he means either, an evergreen tropical American tree which bears fruit in the form of large woody gourds, or a gourd from the Calabash tree, or a water container tobacco pipe or other objects made from the dried shell of a Calabash or similar gourd. Elimus, a-l-l-u-m-e-u-s-e, a word which he means, tees its fringe. Heliograph, a word which he means, a signalling device by which sunlight is reflected in flashes
from a movable mirror, or a telescoping apparatus for photographing the sun. That said, it is a noun. If used as a verb, it means either to send a message by Heliograph or to take it Heliographic photo of the sun. Dildo cactus. According to Wikipedia, Dildo cactus is a common name for several species of long, narrow cactus. I did do some etymological research on this, and it seems likely it was named such because it looked a bit phallic. But don't go sticking one of them up yourself. Ouch. Very prickly. Hoiden, h-o-y-d-e-n, a word which he means, a boisterous girl. Well, that's all from me for this week. Ewosh would back on Wednesday with a value pack, and with a fresh episode on Sunday. So until then, goodbye. Ewosh was created, performed, produced by Douglas Brook. I'm not sure to rest him in the podcast, everyone you know.
And like Douglas Brook on Facebook, and if you ever get around to his Instagram, now if you'd excuse me, I need to go and murder Douglas as a neighbor who's decided to start using his repussing about while we're recording, I shall repass-snip him. This has been a message from the earring.
