The Unseen Work Behind “Overnight” Success: Patience and Skill
In this Growth Notes episode, Frazier says success is often judged by lagging indicators like rising attention, content plans working, attracting business, and overall growth, which can look fast from the outside, but the more important story is the unglamorous process: bad videos, terrible marketing, ignored outreach, flawed conversations, and repeated changes to messaging, approach, and sales mechanics. He argues that real progress requires combining patience with skill—patience alone becomes waiting without action, while skill alone can lead to constantly starting over, especially with ADHD. Frazier notes many people quit too early, such as abandoning content after a few weeks without instant results, and emphasizes staying in the game long enough to see growth and results.

Growth Notes — Everybody Loves the Idea of Overnight Success | Ep. 629. Machine-transcribed; use the interactive transcript above to jump the player to any line.
You know, when it comes to success, there's a lot of different variables. There's one story we love hearing about, and then the other one, we don't really focus on it. And it's that one that is the most important. And honestly, if you're asking me, it's the most fun. But we're going to get into that today. First, good morning, happy Saturday. And just a reminder that different membership is open only through the end of Monday. So on the seventh, it closes again. If some people sign up, so that's great. Got a lot of awesome things that we're doing. But if you want to join us, the link is in the show notes. So everybody loves the idea of overnight success. But nobody gets really excited about the work, the work that came before the overnight part. I personally do. And I think it's more of when you've built something and you've put in that work. And don't be wrong. It's not like it's glamorous or anything.
But when you look back, it's fun. Right? It's fun. And that's how it usually works. So when you're looking at success, you look at more of the lagging indicators, which is the attention, their production is taking off. They're content plans working. They're attracting business. And overall, their business is growing. And sometimes from the outside, that looks fast. But what you don't see, and again, what isn't glamorized enough, and I'm saying glamorized, but at least enough attention on it, is the bad stuff, right? The work, how many bad videos were there? How much marketing was terrible? Bad conversations. And just being ignored in general, right? How many times did you have to change your messaging, improve your approach, work on your
cells, mechanics and techniques, strategies, all of those things? It really comes down to patience, right? But patience isn't sexy. It's patience, and then you match that with skill, and then you got something. And it has to be that combination, because patience, in and in itself, will turn in the waiting if there's no action. So don't get me wrong, just having patience isn't enough, right? And having skill, right, can turn into, especially if you add ADHD, right? It could turn into constantly starting a new thing and starting over, right? So that's why you need both. And most people, they quit, right? Way too early on both those things. And just an example, right? How many times, because I'll use this one, because it's like the easiest one, videos, right?
How many times, or just marketing content in general, but how many times did you do that for, I don't know, two weeks, three weeks, maybe 30 days? And then you didn't see like instant results. So you just assume that the content doesn't work, right? They're doing something different, or it's the equipment, or it's everything, right? It's the patience. It's the patience that pays off. And I would love to tell you that the stuff that we talk about happens quick, and it doesn't. Now sometimes quick results do happen, right? I don't always want to say like it never happens. It's just very rare that it does. And there's also a lot of variables of why that happens, right? And so, but when you go in, or listening to people and the story, and they talk about kind of like the end result, the more important conversation to me is the process and how they got there, right? The failures, the, you know, missteps, all of those things. To me, that's vastly more important.
And personally, I think it's more fun, right? Because that's the growth. And then you get to see the end result of your hard work. But my friends, you have to, you have to stay in the game long enough to see it through and exercise both patience and skill. I hope you guys have an amazing Saturday, and I'll see you all tomorrow. Take care.
