EVB, first off, I suppose tell us a little bit about you.
0:02
I am originally from Dublin, living in Wicklow now.
0:06
I'm a singer-songwriter.
0:07
Yeah, I've just been doing a few gigs, trying to,
0:10
you know, make a start music.
0:11
And how did you get into music growing up?
0:14
Was there someone, was there an artist that inspired you
0:16
or was it somebody within your family?
0:18
I grew up in a family of musicians.
0:20
A lot of family on my dad's side are musicians.
0:23
Pretty much sucks from players.
0:25
And then my other grandad as well was also a piano player.
0:28
So I definitely grew up on the side of the stage
0:30
watching them play, which definitely inspired me.
0:32
And, you know, them playing with other artists as well.
0:35
Like singers, definitely, I wanted to be on the stage
0:37
as well as soon as I saw them.
0:39
And who do you look up to now when writing
0:43
and performing your own music?
0:44
I would very much listen to a lot of Joni Mitchell
0:48
I love their lyric writing.
0:50
I think it's incredible.
0:51
And the melodies as well, it's so personal.
0:53
And a lot of Van Morrison as well, I would have grown up with them.
0:56
And how would you describe your style of music now?
0:59
My style of music would definitely be contemporary ballad.
1:04
I take a lot of time in the melody writing as well.
1:08
And I think both melody and lyrics are very important to me.
1:11
And they kind of have to coincide with each other.
1:14
And your track, Living in a Stansel,
1:16
is the reason we're chatting.
1:17
I suppose tell us a little bit about it.
1:19
And is there a personal story behind it for you?
1:21
Yeah, so I wrote this song in 2024.
1:25
And I was definitely in a rush with songwriting
1:29
and definitely creativity as well.
1:31
And I was thinking how much pressure
1:35
as creatives we put on ourselves
1:36
and to kind of keep the creative flow going
1:39
and always having something.
1:41
And I just find the pressure can be quite overwhelming
1:44
and you can get really burnt out.
1:47
I definitely think that a lot of people
1:48
in general resonate with that as well.
1:51
It doesn't have to be in the creative world.
1:53
And I just thought it's a song worth writing about.
1:56
You've formed with and supported the likes of Monde
1:59
and Mary Black and huge names in the Irish scene.
2:04
But what has been a career highlight for you so far?
2:09
I've been so lucky to support them.
2:10
And they're amazing artists to look up to as well.
2:13
And to ask for advice, like they're very open
2:16
with their careers as well.
2:17
So I would say maybe performing at the Olympia with Mary Black.
2:23
Yeah, that was amazing.
2:24
I just sang, I got up and sang on Katie with her
2:28
and that was really, it was so special.
2:30
And the audience were so nice as well.
2:32
Yeah, and maybe like singing my original songs
2:35
for the first time, that was supporting Mary Black
2:37
as well in the Pavilion in Donnery.
2:40
I was so, I remember being so nervous
2:42
because I'd never played my own music really before.
2:45
That was really, really special.
2:47
And it was so nice and you know,
2:48
my family were there as well.
2:49
And it was a really special moment for me.
2:51
And the Olympia, going back to some of my other Irish editors,
2:54
like that's kind of like a key place
2:56
that a lot of people want to play.
2:58
How was that experience for you?
3:01
You know, I grew up going there to like see other artists as well.
3:04
And I just think it's such a beautiful venue as well.
3:07
Like the whole structure is just absolutely stunning.
3:10
Someone else on the stage, I was like,
3:11
Oh, this is the setting place.
3:13
And I'd prefer to be on the stage.
3:15
You're planning your debut album for release later on this year.
3:20
Tell us a little bit about it.
3:22
And why was this year the year for you
3:24
to release your debut album?
3:26
We spent the bulk of 2025 recording it.
3:29
I recorded it with producer called John Reynolds.
3:31
And I'd kind of written a few of the songs.
3:33
There's 11 songs on the album.
3:35
I'd written kind of a quarter of them
3:37
and then written the rest to write 2025.
3:40
Just thought this year would be a good year.
3:42
You know, the year of the horse, you know?
3:44
Yeah, so I think, yeah, it'll be release later this year.
3:47
And I'm just really excited about it.
3:49
And the songs are really personal.
3:50
And hopefully they'll resonate with other people as well.
3:53
That's kind of what I want to do.
3:55
Other than the album coming out,
3:57
have you got anything else exciting coming up
4:00
over the next couple of months
4:01
that we can look forward to any gigs?
4:03
Actually, I'm supporting Mary Black, again,
4:05
in Portlish as a part of a Sloan tour,
4:08
which is really, really special.
4:10
And I was really honored to be asked to do that gig.
4:13
And then hopefully, yeah, little pop up here in there.
4:17
But yeah, that's kind of my next one.
4:19
And I suppose finally, where can people find you
4:21
on social media if they're looking to stay up to date,
4:24
maybe with the album release
4:25
or some other gigs that are on the way?
4:27
Yeah, I'm on Instagram under EVB
4:30
and then Spotify as well and TikTok.
4:33
That's Instagram and Spotify would kind of be my main ones.
