1:01Sydney's best breakfast. 2GB We're learning more about the never-ending pile of Aboriginal land claims in New South Wales. 2GB breakfast can this morning reveal two more popular locations that are subject to land claims. The first is the Tathra Beach Country Club on the South Coast. It's been referred to as the Gem of the Sapphire Coast. It's got an 18-hole golf course, tennis courts, and a restaurant. So the Tathra Beach Country Club is now subject to a land claim. The other venues about five minutes away, the Tathra Beach Bowling Club. It's also subject to an Aboriginal land claim. The club has been open for decades. It's a vital part of the local community. And 2GB breakfast is also confirmed. St Michael's Golf Club, Mattraville, RSL and Club Rose Bayer on the list. Those names were mentioned yesterday for the first time. And we can now reveal the dates that those claims were recorded in December 2024.

2:03The Laperoo's Aboriginal Land Council lodged claims on St Michael's Golf Course and Mattraville, RSL. The New South Wales Aboriginal Land Council is responsible for the claim on Justin Hemie's venue called Club Rose Bay. That claim was made in February this year. So that's around two months after Justin Hemie's took over. And as we put more of a spotlight on the Sydney locations, subject to land claims, we have more venues to add to the list. It's been confirmed Aboriginal Land Councils have lodged claims on the following locations, Ashfield Bowling Club, Toronto Country Club, Newcastle Post Office, North Sydney Courthouse, Malibar Police Station and the Leighton Courthouse Car Park. Well, I can add another one, the Bondi Bowl, that's had a recent land claim as well. That's the,

3:09you know, really well used Bowling Club in North Bondi that I had a big campaign to sort of fight against Crown Land Renting Crees. They are under a cloud now too because of purported technical breaches of their lease. This is what is happening to clubs everywhere. And look, I commend the Minister for trying to fix it up. And I've said that we will stand with them and try to sort it out. Okay, you are in the eastern suburbs of Sydney, the member for Vaughl Clues. We've revealed on our program on Friday every surf club on the eastern beaches of Sydney is now subject to a land claim. What's going on here, Kelly? It's an absurd situation and the uncertainty it's creating is profound. It's destabilising for small community clubs. It's putting every other club on watch that if they try to sell a few coffees out of a coffee cart, they could be in a technical breach of their lease and subject to land claim. I mean, 44,000 land claims in New South Wales is not the intent of the original legislation. The original

4:12legislation, which has been around for a long time, was designed to free up land that wasn't being used or had special spiritual significance to Aboriginal land councils as a form of payment back for their land loss. And that is a fair and reasonable thing to do. What is happening now is not fair and reasonable. And it's unfortunately creating uncertainty, it's creating division. Even the respected Indigenous Elder Roy RC was on our show yesterday, he says land claims legislations now being weaponised and that's why Steve Kampon needs to step in and fix it quick smart. Why has that not happened already? Is it because the land councils out there are angry about what's about to happen? They're angry that they were not consulted, according to them. I understand a lot of consultation has happened after the bill was introduced, but we have an extended a hand of bipartisanship to the government. We'll work with them to get through sensible legislation that sorts this out once and for all. The land councils, what they're doing is not against the

5:13law. It is within their rights to do this. But I'm concerned about when matters like this raised to the surface, when people are alarmed about their local clubs and worried about the loss of that, potentially for housing being built. That is the fear in the bond I community around the below that if that leaves public hands, it could be open to a big building development. I don't know whether that's their plan or not, but that's the uncertainty it creates in communities. And what about club rose by? We've just confirmed that the claim was made on club rose by February 18, 2026. So Justin Hemmys comes in and opens it up and it's the hottest place to go in Sydney and what happens? Automatically land claim. Well, I'm concerned about that not just for Justin Hemmys, is a business man, but for the RSL that operates out of that club and the diggers that have been going there for years. There's no suggestion that the Aboriginal lands councils by the way would do anything with that block, that they wouldn't just continue to be a good land lord. But the fact is that we don't know, we don't have certainty. And if a government that owns Crown Land decides to

6:16sell it off for public housing, they have to face me in the chamber, they have to face their constituents and the community. We lose that, we lose that check in balance. And can you imagine how much money is being spent of taxpayers money on lawyers at the moment dealing with 44,000 unresolved land claims?
