I can't believe we've already gotten here this season, but it's another Groundhog Day

of Misery for the New York Metz.

Now, the New York Metz have lost nine games in a row.

They were one, seven, and four.

They had one, two of their first three series, and they took the final three games of that

set in San Francisco for returning home for their second home stand of the season, and

they walked off that game with a win.

Since then, nothing but losses.

You go from seven and four to seven and thirteen.

Now through twenty games this season, the New York Metz had the worst record in baseball.

It's the Metz, it's the Rockies, it's the Royals, it's the White Socks.

I don't know if it would have expected the Royals to be in that grouping, but it wouldn't

have been completely shocking.

The Rockies and the White Socks, yeah, you expect them to be there.

The Metz, this bad to start the year, not what everyone was anticipating coming into

the season.

Now, there's other teams who are disappointed right now, the Blue Jays, the Phillies, the

Mariners.

They're all off to slow or start some expected.

But the losing for the Metz right now, it is just, I don't even know a word to describe

it.

But it feels like the microscope is on this team and they're becoming the bad news

bears.

And that's what this game was.

First game at Ragley.

And the Metz are booting the ball around the infield, Brett Bay just as a disaster right

now, certainly in the box, but now in the field had an awful game where he's not feels

in the ball cleanly, he's clearly in his head.

And the crazy thing is this Metz team over this losing streak.

This scored two or less runs in seven of the nine losses and been shut out three times.

The two games were this scored more than two runs.

This scored six games, six runs, one game, four runs this game.

Both of them were the games started by Koda and he blew the game before the second inning

was over in both games.

It's just awful.

And bottom of the first inning, saying he gets to pop up, then he issues a walk, then he

gets up a base hit nearly gets out of it strikes out me in half.

He gets ahead of say is Suzuki one and two throws a pitch in the dirt and then he throws

a fast pull up.

And I will say it wasn't a terrible pitch, 97 miles per hour up in the zone.

He did get it there.

Maybe you want to get a little bit higher up, but not a bad pitch, but say is Suzuki good

piece of hitting gets enough of it.

Carson Bans tries to make a sliding catch drops in a run scores and then here comes one

of the best rookie hitters in baseball, Moises, Bellis, Deiros, first pitch swinging on

a cutter, three run home or four nothing cups.

And just like that, it filled with the games over.

Now the next half inning, the match actually rally back from Cisco Alvarez, MJ Melendez,

they both get base hits.

Marcus Simi comes through with an RBI double.

Brett Beatty has a miserable a batty strikes out, but then Tyrone Taylor gets a base hit

the scores too.

He gets thrown out a second, tries stretching into a double, whether he would have been

saved for the match challenge, it doesn't really matter, but you still made it a four

to three game.

You're back in it.

What is saying to do the next inning?

That's the first out issues a walk, Nico Horner, two run homer, six three cups.

And again, it felt like it was over.

And then the cherry on top of the, I want to say a bleep Sunday, but I'll spare our younger

audience by using a bad word there for a thinning.

I think the exits have to give him a base hit.

That base hit was a ground ball, the boba shirt makes a sliding stop on just barely, you

know, is late on the throw, nothing he could do there.

Well, Oscar bronze, the bottom comes on.

First single he gives up is a chopper.

And there was just no play by the time it came down and Bichet caught it.

He didn't have a play at first or second.

Then the ground ball that Brett Beatty probably should have made the play on, so he deflected

to Marcus Simi.

If Marcus Simi and makes a good throw a second, they probably have an out, but he makes

a bad throw.

So now all of a sudden, that ends up being a hit, but you have a chance.

You have a chance because from Cisco Indoor catches the line drive.

There's two out the base that are loaded and Brett Beatty gets as routine of ground balls

you're ever going to see.

All he's got to do with his first baseman is just get in front of the baseball, two hands,

hit the ball in the glove, jog over to first, you're out of the inning.

He can't feel it cleanly.

And another run scores.

Now it was just one run, but it was a play that is emblematic of everything wrong with

the New York Mets right now.

And it's these guys pressing on yesterday's show, I said the five things that needed to

happen for the New York Mets to snap the losing streak and to win a series.

Number one, stop pressing and Brett Beatty, I felt like he was pressing.

Code Isenga was nibbling, was not attacking the zone, falling behind, issuing walks.

You're not going to be successful if you don't trust your stuff.

And it seems like Sanga has lost that confidence that he had in spring training and that he

had in his first two starts.

I saw some people pointing out to the velocities down.

Yeah, sure.

Down from averaging 97 in the first start of the season, but he still is averaging 95.7,

which was a mile per hour faster than last year.

It's not that the stuff is bad.

It said his confidence isn't there.

It said he's not trusting his stuff.

It's that he's putting himself in bad counts.

That's why code Isenga is not pitching well.

It's not because of a mile or two on the radar gun.

It's because it doesn't have conviction on the mound.

And so Sanga puts you in a hole and then Sean and I have buried you late.

Not that it would have mattered, but he got rocked.

You know, I threw runs in the seventh, two and the eighth.

He finished the game.

He's got a great job in mop up duty.

What the thing is, if you want to say, all right, bump code Isenga from the rotation.

Who's going to take a spot?

Sean Maniah, bump David Peterson, the rotation, who's going to take a spot?

Sean Maniah.

And we'll talk more about what the meds can do because I mean, you can make a case that

Christian Scott would be fun to see right now in that rotation.

But what do you do with Peterson?

What do you do with Sanga?

Guys that I mean, technically saying he has an option to see really going to accept

the emotion again, David Peterson does not have an option.

You're damned.

If you do, you're damned.

If you don't, you can't do anything with those guys, you're going to cut them.

After a couple bad starts, probably now you get the right idea to see if they can figure

it out.

These guys have been good pitchers in the past.

But not going to make it feel any better if the next time I'm out, code Isenga gives

it four runs in the first inning and is putting you in a meeting holes.

Well, it was another one of the things that I said the mats need to do to break this streak

and win some games.

I said that the starting pitching could not put them in early holes.

A game where the mats did get 14 hits and there could have been some positive drawn from

the way that the line was on the mat.

And Jim Melinda's looking like a guy for this team, multi-hit game, Francisco Lendor, multi-hit

game.

All right.

Cool.

Carson Benjamin lead off spot.

I have a huge game, but I still like to change in this lineup.

I like having Lendor down in the lineup a little bit more.

There was things that you could look at offensively for almost everybody not named Brett Baby

that were solid in this one.

But it doesn't matter because the game was over in the second inning.

We're going to talk about next is what do the meds do with some of these players that

aren't performing.

So I'm going to go through that and then we're going to close out the show on some of

David Stern's comments today.

So a lot to cover here is just a minute.

What are the New York meds do with some of their struggling players?

Code eyes saying that David Peterson, they are both once again right where they were at

the end of last season, where it seems like they're unpitchable.

How many guys can pitch out of the bullpen though?

At a certain point, if there's not injuries, your hands are tied a little bit.

David Peterson will be a phrase in after this year, theoretically sure, you could cut

David Peterson.

Do you know how many teams would pick him up off waivers in an instant?

Because at the end of the day, this guy still wasn't all star last year and had four and

a half, almost five months of really good baseball last season.

And if you want to stretch it back to the previous year, he finished off that year from June

on, looking great at the rotation.

I'm not as concerned about David Peterson and that might seem a little bit surprising.

But for me, I can see Peterson making some adjustments and figuring this thing out.

Code eyes saying, I don't know where the confidence is.

I don't know where that conviction is.

I don't know where the guy was that was attacking restart to go.

What happened to that guy?

If he can get back to that guy, he could be a successful pitcher.

If not, who knows?

And it just puts you in a bad spot.

It shows you why they try to train him.

It's funny, though, because again, two starts ago, I was saying, look, GMs that were

all the phone with David Sterns that points this off season were probably kicking themselves.

When code eyes saying it came out of the gates, averaging 97 on its basketball, looking

great.

Now, last two starts, pretty brutal, all of a sudden, his ERA is over eight and looks

like a guy that teams are probably smart to stay away from.

Last his four starts this year is given up 23 hits and 17 and a third innings pitched.

10 walks, 22 strikeouts.

That's not good enough by any stretch of the imagination.

And so now you're in this tough point where I do think you got to stick with these guys.

But it's tough to, and I will say, Christian Scott, I think he should be an option sooner

than later, because I don't know how many innings Christian Scott has in the tank this

year.

I don't know how far they're going to push him.

So I feel like your best chance to squeeze value at if Christian Scott this season is to

use him early.

Second half, I wouldn't even forecast where he's going to be because you got to be careful

because you know what, Christian Scott very well could be a huge part of the rotation

in 2027.

But right now, when these guys are struggling, he's the name that comes to top my mind.

Jonah Tongue is not pitching great.

Jack Weninger, that's a big jump.

He had a good start and Syracuse today.

Really good start.

He said three good starts to open up the year.

Weninger could be an option at some point, but he needs to develop.

Jonah Tongue still needs to develop.

Christian Scott, his stuff is going to play.

I really would consider at a certain point going to him.

I just don't know if that is the next turn through the rotation.

It would almost be helpful if code I sang.

I got a blister on his finger today.

And you could put him away for 10 days or 15 days because the pitcher is 15.

So put him away for two weeks and give Christian Scott some starts and see what it looks like.

I think for now, they'll ride it out.

And hopefully these guys have better starts the next time.

How much else you can do that hope that they do because you're in a tough spot.

You really don't have when it comes to roster flexibility.

You don't have much you can do other than just cutting them.

And if Christian Scott's not good in the second half, not good to go, that I mean.

And Jonah Tongue and Jack Weninger are on ready.

You might be kicking yourself for getting rid of starting to pitch and depth.

So you're kind of in a tough spot.

Now bread, baby, you do have an option.

Now this team is so completely, you know,

riddled with injuries right now that I don't know how you could actually justify sending

baby down. I mean, actually, I do know how you could justify his play is how you would justify it.

But it's a tough spot.

You're an MJ Melendez come off to a great start.

He's your D H right now.

And you could also stick him out there in the outfield.

You can play him in left, play him in right, play him opposite of Brett, baby in the quarters.

That is an option to match up.

Tommy fam does not have to play in my opinion, but he's there.

Tyrone Taylor.

I don't know, maybe they might start him and lean into the defense and he's had some decent at bats this year.

He's looked better than Brett, baby, not saying too much, but he has.

I look at Tyrone Taylor.

I look at this match roster.

And I just, I don't know.

I don't know.

You're kind of grasping for straws at this point.

And the other thing, too, to mention,

Jorge Polanco, now as a risted injury too.

I mean, what a disaster this signing looks like right now.

A guy that throughout his career has struggled to stay healthy had a great season last year.

But it felt like a little bit of panic signing when the meds made it after Peter Lanzo walked.

And now all of a sudden, who knows what's going to happen?

What I will say is the fact that all of a sudden after, you know, they got an MRI and the kill is going to look good.

It's like, oh, actually, we got to check out the wrist now.

Just I L the guy.

I L the guy.

I would love it.

If for a little bit, just for a little bit.

You let Ronnie Mauricio play some baseball.

Why not?

D H Mauricio stick Melendez and left.

Pace Brett, baby, the bench for all I care.

I'm playing Viantos.

And see if you can change something up.

I did like the move.

I really did of putting Carson Benjamin lead off spot.

Just because I was trying to find some answers on yesterday's show on how the meds could adjust things.

And I don't know who to put in the lead off spot.

I was just thinking Lendor should be batten third.

Or second.

Well, they got him in the three hole.

And you know what?

If this works for Lendor and he's hitting well.

And Juan Soto comes back and slides back into the tool and you put the check cleanup.

Keep Carson bench lead off for all I care.

I mean, he hasn't had great a pass this year.

But he started to turn the corner because a three or four game hitting street.

I do like that.

I will say I'm looking out.

I was checking real quick to see if Mauricio played today.

If they maybe we're going to get into Chicago.

He did play in Syracuse.

He went three for four.

Did he Homer?

He did Homer.

Second of the year.

So that's just I don't.

I don't know what is going on where the meds feel like they can't.

But they went there and written a manifesto in Chicago.

What's in place?

They just put pelaco on the I L.

There were so quick to throw Soto on the I L.

Why is polonco just day today, but not available?

Not available, not available.

Just put the guy on the I L and get some fresh blood up and play Ronnie Mauricio.

Look at me.

That would be a move to change things up.

And yes, cred beat he's still going to get some time.

You play 80 and a Valentals, you will tune them at first fine, due that whole thing again.

But I just feel like it's crazy that where it Polonco is not on the edge of list

We'll see we'll see where the meds go from here. We'll see if after Ryan Mauricio at three for four with the Homer if they decided I get

this lives in a tough spot and

All right, so let's talk about David Stern's comments

He talked about

Urgency or actually they asked him about urgency and he said there's nothing about this team that is not urgent

These are not guys who aren't working to show them to the ballpark

They're doing everything they can to win. They want to win right now

It's just not happening

But he said that urgency can lead to chase rate urgency can lead depressing

So he's just kind of dismissing that notion that this team doesn't want it and they're not trying and they're not making moves

And they're not you know if anything they're trying too hard

But he said that can all end with one base is clearing double

And he believes in the roster that he built

That these are good players that will play better

He believes the match are putting them in good positions

To play well is he's

Brushing off any notion across Mendoza's at fault here for the seasons that saying that Mendy is doing a great job

Putting this team in the positions to succeed

So it's not happening

He talked about the comparison from last year he was asked about last year's team of this year's team

And he said that the roster that is present should not be burdened by last year

He said he's burdened by last year

He said it was the fan base is burdened by last year

But it's very difficult to draw a line last year when it's new coaches new players

Now some people draw lines to the manager, but I agree that this is not on Carlos Mendoza

And I know that at times like this, it's so much easier to say fire the manager, fire the GM

Because you can't say fire Francisco Lendor

You can't say fire Boba Shit

I mean theoretically you could fire David Peterson

But when he pops up on the Rangers as a teammate with Brandon Nemo and Jacob DeGrom and all of a sudden

He looks like Jordan Montgomery in 2023

You're probably going to be thinking that was a dumb move to DFA David Peterson

Just like it was a dumb move to not keep Rico Garcia last year

Let him go to the Orals when I just got 10 no hit innings to start this season, but that's neither here nor there

The match made a bold move this off season they said they're they're not going to just run it back

They're not going to ignore what happened and you know what?

There was a big portion of the fan base that was on board with those decisions

Now there was still a lot of us myself included

They wanted to see Peter Lonzo come back

That wanted Edwin Diaz to come back

That for me, I was even campaigned for the match to hang on to Jeff McNeil

Now the Brandon Nemo train is one that I think a lot of us maybe talk to ourselves into or maybe we didn't

And go back and listen I could be remembering my take wrong

I said that for the upcoming season you shouldn't expect Marcus in me into out hit Brandon Nemo

But it was opening up playing time in the outfield for someone like Carson Bench

We're saying that bench needs time to acclimate to the big leagues. I'm not selling my stock just yet

And I thought Marcus say we would improve the team defensively but I was curious how you would hit

And I thought that he might struggle it's happened but as we plan on this show every single year of his career

He gets off to a slow start

So for all we know

After this month Marcus in me could run a 760 OPS for the rest of the season

Bring up his numbers and with the defense it can still be a two and a half three win player

And it might not be that bad

But here's what I would say

For those of you all of a sudden are Brandon Nemo's biggest fans

And you're looking at Brandon Nemo getting on base to the 396 clip on top of that Rangers lineup

With the 934 OPS and 4 homeruns to start the season

And you're saying what an idiot Davis starting days for trading Brandon Nemo

What an idiot I can't believe he did that I can't believe he did that to our guy

For one I don't remember the outrage being that immense when Nemo got traded

When a lot of it didn't sign yeah there was a lot of outrage and rightfully so when I was with you

I don't feel like Brandon Nemo has many fans when the trade happened as all of a sudden he has now

It has gotten off to a good start but a couple things I want to say

When it comes to Brandon Nemo's good starting all the people who are 20 games into the season

Saying that that trade was the biggest mistake ever and Davis turns some more on

Here's what I want to say for one when Brandon Nemo be playing this one in Metz uniform

Think about that seriously really give it some critical thought because I don't think so

I really don't if Brandon Nemo was around the level of suck in the Metz clubhouse right now

Would he not get swept up in it?

Would he not be pressing to we've seen Brandon Nemo go through some really bad stretches

And you know what if Brandon Nemo wanted to still be in New York Met and obviously he did at the end of the season

I don't want to just rag on the guy but you know if it with the Metz are being unfair to Brandon Nemo

And he did not deserve to be playing at all for what happened on the stretch

Let's look at a 621 OPS in September last year

Was he great when the Metz were falling apart?

Was he the guy that was trying to keep the team afloat?

No Jeff McNeil last September everyone is now Jeff McNeil fan

OPS 514

These guys were culpable in the Metz claps the one guy who wasn't his pylons

Opylons on a 929 OPS in September and he was the only dude that showed up in Miami

When the Metz season was on the line he had a great series

He every a bat was giving them a chance he won a game single handily

He almost was able to get them into that final game of the season

Pitalonzo was the guy that was trying to keep the team afloat and had a great season

And he's the guy who's struggling right now

So people are looking at Pitalonzo with his OPS in the low 700s right now

And saying oh they should have brought Pete back

Well maybe some are when Brett Baby boots a ground ball and first base production has been low this year

But my point is that team was dismantled for a reason

And so I get the frustration trust me trust me the last thing I want is for this team to be a disaster

You know my livelihood is tied to the New York Metz in some ways

If the Metz are a complete bleep show all year

And they're out of it and there are 75 win team

Are you all going to be tuning in the whole ride or are you going to give up around July

Because I've seen that happen in 2023 and it's not fun

Doing August and September shows when this teams out of it

So trust me I share the same frustration as the rest of this fan base I do

I am not trying to absolve David Sterns and Carlos Mendoza of everything

I'm not

If this goes sideways again yeah trust me if the messed up with the playoffs

Carlos Mendoza is not coming back and David Sterns will enter next year on the hot seat

If not Steve Coleman just getting pissed and cleaning house

But I don't know where you would turn next I really don't

And I still look at David Sterns with a smile on his face to talk to the media

Which is pissing off fans and say this guy

He's not the problem I really don't think he is

And a lot of you are saying I'm flatly wrong and that's fine

Let's see how the rest of this season plays out

He believes in his roster

And you know what?

Guys got to play better

Guys have to play better

Brett Beatty if the Metz wanted to

They could have turned a Brandon Sprout and Brett Beatty for Friday, Peralta

I almost guarantee that the Brewers would have taken Beatty over Jet Williams

I really think that they would have

And there's a lot of teams that would have been lined up to take Brett Beatty this off season

And the Metz were committed to Beatty being an impact player for them this year

They signed Boba Shit they said look Beatty we believe in you

You're going to play utility role you're going to our new Jeff McNeil

He's got to hit he's got to hit he's got to get out of his own way

Stop with the pressing stop getting in his head he said it after the game

He's got to get back to his old approach you know he's got to just stop being timid

Okay we'll do it do it play better baseball

Boba Sheth's getting paid $42 million this year

He's got to hit about 226

He's barely hitting above his weight right now he's got to do better

Francisco Lindo I got to give him credit

At least with the bad he's starting to turn the corner a little bit

So let's see where that goes

Luis Robert Jr

First week of the season everyone's proclaiming him to be an All-Star

He's got a 720 OPS right now

Now looking that good

Is he an All-Star? Is he the type of guy that can get a huge contract again?

Go out and prove it

Francisco offers have been awesome only guy that you can just say yeah he's been good

And Jim Lindo just came up he's been good

But Marcus Simeon or a Polanco veterans that were brought in to help get this team on track

They got to play better

They got to play better

Cody Senga came out of the gates hot

Now he's timid now he's nibbling around the strike zone

He's got to pitch better or you got to do something

I just it's interesting how when things go bad

We point the finger any and everybody but the players

And the players and the ones on the field

Do I think that Carl Smondos and Davis turns a perfect of course not?

Do I think that a new manager and a new GM

Would make this team better right now?

No the players had to make this team better

And hopefully the Freddie Peralta playing stopper

Then that's can win a game

They can shake off this losing streak

Maybe win a series on Sunday

And try to get back into their season

The one thing I'll say

Davis serves a mention today that Juan Soto is expected to join the team on the homestand

And by God, please have him back for the first game of that homestand

Even if Juan Soto doesn't play left field for the rest of the year which he will

But if you had a DHM and he has to walk to each base

He would help the team more than what they got going right now

Stick Melendez and left put Soto at DH and just go

Because they need him, they need him, they need him

But the good news is he's going to be back real soon

And as much as everything feels like it's dire and the season's over

It's delayed bro

It's 20 games into the season

The Mets reel off a five game winning streak

All of a sudden they'll be completely different vibes, completely different narratives

They're seeing you really get caught

For now, yes, it's ugly

But it's also ugly for the Mariners, it's also ugly for the Phillies, it's also ugly for the Blue Jays

Who were nearly World Series champions last year, it's ugly for a lot of teams right now

And the current standings are not going to hold all season

I don't know if the race are going to win the A L East

I doubt the twins are going to win the Central

I don't know if the Rangers are going to win the West

On the national side are the Reds and Pirates going to be four games over all year

Are they going to be really in the mix maybe

Or maybe a team like the Brewers, there's only a game back

We'll get right back to the Redful place and top the division

Maybe the Cubs who on paper had the best roster in that division will find the way at the top

You know, you look at what's going on in the A L East

The Brazers off to a great start

They're going to be tough to beat this year

Are the Phillies and the Mets both going to be under 500 this year?

My guess is at least one of those teams is going to turn around

Hopefully it's the Mets, probably it's both

But you never know

For now, it's just one one game

Win one game and move on from there

It's ugly, it's not fun

I don't expect you all to be enjoying this

But I also will say as much as it's hard

Try to take a deep breath

Try to get through these games

Try to have a little bit of hope still

Because it's early and the Mets might still surprise you this year

So I'm surprised us a couple of years ago

So we can't write off a team this early
