Dave Roberts here. There you are surrounded by fans, sharing wings, sharing drinks, high-fiving random strangers. Everybody remembers the game. Nobody remembers the guy coughing behind you until a few days later. At 2 a.m., you wake up with a fever and your throats on fire. Now what? Urgent care? Close. ER? Slam. Telehealth? Maybe. But the pharmacy's close. You needed a medical emergency kit. These aren't first aid kits. They contain essential prescriptions used for over 30 common conditions. Sinus and ear infection, UTIs, stomach bug, travelers diarrhea, and more. On hand before you need them. Use your doctor-developed guidebook to select the right prescription or call their telemedicine doctor standing by. It's like an urgent care and drug store at home. When you're sick, traveling, or stranded, you'll wish you ordered a medical emergency kit. Order online in minutes and it's shipped to your door and say $45 with my promo code blue at urgentcarekit.com slash blue. That's promo code blue at urgentcarekit.com slash blue.

In years and into the fourth preliminary final in their history, three of them against the Sydney swans. It's the swans at the SCG. They will face next weekend. We believe Friday night and the free metal coach Justin Lomia has been good enough to join us on 3 8 W 40 on this Saturday afternoon. Justin, welcome to 3 8 W 40 and congratulations. Thanks for having me on. I'm going to go as you know, obviously a really good performance last night and we are really proud of the way the club and the players get bounced back from a disappointing result the week before. On a lighthearted note, the last 70 seconds of football at Optostadium for the season, Walfey time finally reappeared. Hasn't been there since early May. Were you as surprised as anyone? Yeah, it was a little bit, and it's a bit like big for it, really, and sometimes like we talk about it a lot, but we don't see it much in, yes, been a while, but yeah, where there was a right time to do it or not, I think it was a great moment in the game. I was actually hoping it wasn't going to take away from our boys concentration,

that's had a bad, but clearly didn't. They got their job done in the last 50 seconds and were able to work their way through what was a little tricky little period of the game. Well, interesting. It's a marketing issue. Obviously a bit like the long, not this, and this monster we didn't know existed, but if anyone should be out of call for it, you will see your coach should be out of call for it. Yeah, it's thought it was a bit late in the game. Leo was hoping to come out about halfway through the third quarter. When we probably needed a lift, we went along well on top and coming, so yeah, it's a great fan engagement piece. Our crowd really loved it and it's clearly captured the footy nation in some sense. Well, if we're speaking of drama, the real drama for me was not the war fee time, but going back to the third quarter, Justin, I mean, it's pretty invasive, I know, but that's some the nature of footy these days and the broadcasters. The shots of you, when Jolong got up by more

than a goal, sitting in the box, I think you were biting your nails. And then again, in the fourth quarter, when they came again, what was going through your mind? Because it was pretty excruciating to watch to be frank. Yeah, yeah, it was, it was important in the first half, we're really strong in the contest. And yeah, we clearly can come out after half time the way we wanted it and got put on the back foot and let Jolong to own territory and you allowed Jolong to own territory, they're going to punish you at some stage and we're pretty fortunate there for a while. They missed them, missed some goals, obviously the goal review in our way and Mr Colosset shots they would have, they would have liked to have kicked with dodged a few bullets, but yeah, eventually the damn ball was going to break if you keep playing like that. And yeah, it was really basic messaging through that third quarter. Did you get the contest right? And then to see we can get a cover of deep entries to try and put a bit of pressure on them. It felt like every drama would turn the ball over, it would turn over across half back and they were, you, I would use those numbers and

go back at us and really proud of the way the players got their hands dirty, latent, latent that third quarter and didn't think it was endings, overly special and look Jackson obviously got to work, but yeah, it just his contest work and his ability to put himself in the contest and get the game played in their front half and you do that, you put the opposition under under pressure and yeah, we were able to, we're able to, yeah, write that momentum before three quarter time, which is really important. Well, you did withstand the pressure, but there was a lot of talk both after the game and before the game about not handling the pressure the previous week. Not only from your captain that we've just heard, but also Caleb Sarong, who I think addressed the group and was pretty passionate during the week. Did you as a group of coaches question yourselves and whether you had played a role in that in not handling the pressure against tall thorn? Of course, yeah, yeah, we're never going to throw the players under the bus, we're all in together. So yeah, of course, the first place I look is, is my own job and my own messaging.

Yeah, there's a number of factors, what went into the Hawthorne game and yeah, we're pretty quick to move on from that caro like it. We tried to treat it like a normal game, as it was around five. We did try not to catastrophize it. We tried to make sure the messaging was really clear moving into this week. I think it was here. Her DC say in the intro that we just tried to get back to our footy and I think we saw that from the first two, three center dancers, we, we trusted ourselves, we drove it gaps. Yeah, we won our contest and anticipated those contests ahead of the play and you know, when bolts gets into the game and starts exploring your space and taking the tackler on, it sets a really good tone for the rest of the group. So he was awesome early. So is it right that you felt that again, we heard from some of your leaders, they felt less pressure this week than in fact, they did last week, which is extraordinary given given the stakes.

Yeah, that's a difference to everyone. Like we put libels across the whole group, but really like different individuals are going to feel the situation differently. Some Hi, this is Dave Roberts heading into summer without a medical emergency kit. That's a risk. Summer colds can linger and getting sick on vacation can derail everything. That's why everyone needs a medical emergency kit. It includes doctor prescribed medications to treat common and serious illnesses. So if you wake up sick at home or on the road, you already have what you need. It's like having an urgent care and pharmacy at home, say $45 with code blue at urgentcare kit.com slash blue urgent care kit.com slash blue. Some want to tell that pressure last week, I think is the pressure, the pressure of expectation, hope to bring, bring really good physical pressure, the conditions were slippery. Then you'd fall behind the school board, you'd go to the school board pressure. So all those factors fell into it last week and their overriding sense was that our

contest last week was good enough. The contest numbers were even, but what we did off the contest was was nowhere near what our best looks like. I mean, I thought that contest was strong last night, but what we did off the contest to go inside the out and go back out the opposition was a mile different to what it was a week before. And I saw that and have much more dangerous. We looked ahead of the ball and obviously, he's in school board the way we did as well. And you used the term, I think in the post game press conference, Justin, I mean, we obviously who's on top in the game fluctuating over the couple of hours, didn't, but when you use the the collective team mindset, which we know is frustratingly fluctuating because it's changing all the time, like to emphasize a discipline to stick to your game plan no matter what your mindset is, the challenge of imposing that. Yeah, absolutely. Yeah, you know, better than anyone, there's a lot of factors come into changing players, mindsets, whether it's a mistake they've made

that's cost the team or they're not pushing the ball as much as they would have liked or all the school board pressure or the grimes in the crowd, all those other things that affect mindset. And as a coach, you're after, yeah, you're really after trying to produce a bunch of robots so they don't get affected by those sorts of things, but we all know humans are very affected by the changing environments within a game. So I thought our leaders really stood up last night. I thought they were calm amongst the chaos. I thought they stuck their guns really well. Yeah, and they eventually, we came out on top and we knew that we could play with the right there and the right player win mindset that they'd long would give us a look and they had to kick at 120 points. It was a great effort. We got some work to do behind the ball to tidy up scores against, but I thought we looked a lot more dangerous than what we did to work before or even the week before against Carlton as well. And it's specifically part of the game.

It seems like the center bounce wins are going to be increasingly important. We seem to see more teams that are last night. It was just whoever won the center bounce looked like kicking a goal, but actually in terms of running into that space forward of the center center, not center bounce anymore, the center throw up, but forward of the contest and running into towards center forward. That seems to be happening. It happened for you guys and against you guys when the game was in the balance, that seemed to be a critical factor. Yeah, yeah, it was and we, when you've long are really aggressive with this center bounce structures and they like to come out the front and in turn that gives you a look back the other way. So we wanted to expose that, but you're up mid connection becomes so important at times in there and when Mason, Mason Cox went in there and he's on blue service, so you're clearly going to get your hands to it and sometimes he can get overly aggressive and then missed out on the hit and you open yourself up back the other way. There is a lot of space in there and when you've got dynamic players like both teams had last night, doesn't take much to get go side and yeah, yeah, those go side looks are either you're running into

space or you're forcing the defenders to press which gives you overlap and get both teams go to decent look last night and add a center bounce. So I don't think of everything seven goals to six out of center bounce before. And the defensive sweeper concept seems to have disappeared, really. I mean, there seems to be pairs of players in and around that center throw up. I mean, why is that why and how was that involved in over? What happens is teams are exploring that by using the back of the circle and then therefore you cough up a clear and we're always trying to replace in that sense that defensive cover, the thing is with a with a 4v4 and maybe a couple guys go to ground, it's a 3v3, what can happen is you're very best intent to pressure and two can go to one which leads a lot of space for them to get the ball to the outside and yeah, we saw that happen to fear the last night and you know, Manitama the front of a few center bounces for them which look dangerous and they're clearly youngy and bolts and those types, yeah, got those looks for us and

yeah, it's kicks seven goals is a great effort. I feel like clearly we don't want to cough up six and thought we left a fair few out there. Fair few opportunities out there as well with some of the looks we got from what was a pretty dominant rough performance. Justin, we understand this is not about you and you've got a pre-limp to play next week but it has been an intriguing topic that of your rolling contract. Are you in negotiations with the club at the moment to extend that contract and have a longer term deal? No, no, no, no, no, I've clearly engaged a new manager, we haven't got to that yet, who said you manager? Partly in pickering is managing me now. I'm just not getting necessarily based around getting me in your contract. There's a number of things that as I've seen you coach, your higher manager for, don't really want to go into all those things now but yeah, I've said many times, Carol, I'm happy with the deal I'm on, not everyone understands that and that's okay but the club and the club and me have satisfied with it and that's really all

that matters. Justin, thanks for your time this afternoon for that extended chat. Unfortunately, this is Dave Roberts.
