FULL REVIEW: Fremantle are through to the PRELIM after beating the Cats! (September 11, 2026)

0:00Free battle by 25 at quarter time. 21 at the half, Jolong hit the front in the third quarter by eight points. Free battle moved back out to a 16 point lead. They finish winners tonight by 14 points. For the first time since 2015, the free battle talkers are through to a preliminary final. They will play Sydney next week. And we suspect that will be a Friday night in counter. And what a semi final. The preliminary final. I should say that is going to be the top two teams all year. They will meet in a pre-limb. Of course, Hawthorne will host the other preliminary final next weekend. They will play the winner of tomorrow's semi between Brisbane and the Adelaide Crores Jimmy Bartel Matthew Lloyd. You catch your breath. Jolong had a couple of late chances. But I think we probably saw the right result in the end.

1:00Yeah, absolutely. Shane, it was a cracking game of football. Stoppage goals everywhere. Kat's got the game on their terms in the third quarter. You know, that transition, that turn over. But Frio, yeah, they got jittery. And the best thing I saw was, you know, when they're under the pump, I've still brave with the ball. You sometimes a little bit too brave, a little bit too risky, but the fact that you know, Bartons kick up through the middle of the ground. And it's almost like that imprinted in their head all week. Lloyd, either, hey, you've got to go, you've got to go harder. You've got to be more aggressive with ball at hand. That's how we look. Submitted to the rest of the decisions throughout the game. But Frio, we're the deserving winner and a belter of a final, an absolute cracker. Yeah, that'd be wrapped with their response. Yes, they couldn't do it for four quarters. And you've got to do that more so to win a premiership over the next couple of weeks. Otherwise, they lost their way in that third quarter. Would be a real concern to them. They've got 10 points down.

2:01Jolong kicked five goals six from 11, from 12 entries. They scored 11 times and it took Luke Jackson against an inexperienced Ruckman who he won't have that luxury in the next few works against an inexperienced Ruckman to get them out of it the way he did. But full credit to them. I thought their midfield win Bolton, Jackson, Brasior, Reed, Sarong and Young with a difference in this game of football. And they got four goals out of Vos, which is a massive bonus. Do you change the way that you think about three-metal on the back of tonight's performance coming up against a Sydney Cydon? We know where they, the swans have been through and the five names that they're missing at the SCG next week. Maybe the weight of, you know, final's pressure not winning one for this group. That might just lift that burden. And as much as you go, no, no, it's just like any other game. But we saw last week, they were under the pump. They played it in stages like that.

3:04So maybe Shane, this might just lift a little bit of a weight off their shoulders and they might play a lot freer and easier against the swans. Can't help but look at that Caleb Sarong interview on the Currency Channel 7. He looks at not quite as, but you know how emotional Nils was after the Sydney issues that they confronted and they won against North Melbourne. Have look Caleb Sarong, which I know is not great for radio, but he looks genuinely emotional about what's happened this evening. It was more of a stress, sir. I can, the stress on Frio, we kept touching on it. They were carrying over last year. Gold Coast went over there and rolled them in a final. They're pretty poor to be honest against the Hawks. And I'm not taking any time away from Hawthorne, but they had half a dozen players who played in their worst games of their career. So they guys who just didn't live up to the moment. And Jolong tested them, Jolong refused the lay down.

Stewart didn't have much of an influence on this game, a football and Voskick four goals. So one vote for Patrick Voss, two votes, Murphy Reed, he had a stellar season. And I thought he had a great night tonight. 11 score in boldness, 23 disposals.

5:07I just thought he was everywhere and played a really important role for the dockers. Three votes have given a Shay Bolton. 26 positions, 10 score in boldness, eight tackles, seven inside 50s and two goals. Thought his game was massive and he set them a light at the start of the game. Four votes have given Oli Henry of Jolong, 20 positions. He had five marks and kicked five goals. One, he was outstanding. They couldn't stop him and five votes. He's the most dominant player on the ground. Luke Jackson, he's destroyed Jolong twice this year. In the last two games, they do not have an answer. It's the reason they must get Rowan Marshall. I don't know why they haven't got a Ruckman into their club because it continually costs them at the business end of the year and they've needed a Ruckman for years and years and they just haven't got one. So if they missed out on Marshall last year, they should have had a plan B to get another one in. Is there any love for Jimmy? My favorite player today, he's Chapman. The ball just followed him around, but he broke tackles, didn't give it away.

6:10He broke a lot of tackles late and I know we're sort of having a joke, but when they do have their final end of year break up and the defenders get together, I think quite a few of them who have a lot more of the long lot and get celebrated. Probably need to go over the heath and just say, look, hey, thanks mate for sortness out the last couple of weeks because you know the jobs are the hardest ones in the game. They seem to put he Chapman on them and the all the others peel off it and get a much easier role. Thanks to the he Chapman. But we're going to have to say one of the talking points will still be Ollie Gefciz, non-gold that was called it behind and how the arcman came to the conclusion that an arm behind the boot was actually in front of the boot. That is just an incredible error, Jim. I'm not saying that that costs Joe the game, but it is an error that shouldn't have happened. Yeah, it was when they so proud with their arc and their replays and getting the right result with every boundary throwing and lasso

7:11they had to get the right result on that in a final and they didn't. And that's the point I'm making. This is not the result I'm talking about. It didn't, it doesn't mean Freo, the absolute deserving winner. They played Magnus and Puddy. But we're talking about biggest games at the biggest moment and it's either the technology or the decision making is still horrendous. And I think in that one I was probably the latter, the decision making. Can I table it again? It Freo are the deserving winners, but I'm just talking about how the way we do goal-unport our goal-line technology, it's pretty pox. We know you're not a good at July Prevision. No, no, no, no. 11:21looking ahead to that preliminary final, Sydney obviously get the week off, but are they the front runner for you? No. No. I still think the weight off RIO shoulders, and I think the big question mark is how emotional the win was for the swans then backing up off that, not saying, Sydney don't like the talent, the ability and the game style, but I'm just going with Freya. Let's get down to the free-mouther rooms because what I'm when it was, they're first preliminary final since 2015. 12:23Yeah, I guess so. There's plenty of thoughts that go through your head during the week after loss like last weekend, and we feel like we're a good enough team to be here and to make a preliminary win. Throughout the week it was all about reconnecting to what makes us, what makes us a really good team and not looking like we need to try too hard or find anything new. It's about reconnecting to the footy that we played. I think we, yeah, that first quarter we came out and we were really tough and handled the pressure, which we didn't quite do the weekend before. So, yeah, it was a gutsy win. Especially in that sort of third quarter when we were challenged and we're under pressure to just stick to our footy and get the basics done and just keep our heads. It's, yeah, just super proud of all the boys. Alex, do you mean Bartel here? Well, down on a magnificent win. That's what I was going to ask you next. Is it sometimes just being reminded by the coaches and even using video

13:24and just talk that, yeah, we're a very, very good side. We know how to play good footy and connect as you say with each other. That's the clear theme of the week that, no, no, we've got the ability to be better than anybody else. Yeah, a little bit. I guess the final footy throws up. Throws up a lot for different individuals and you can really build it up in your own head and it just, well, you know, better than anyone else. It requires playing your brand of footy under the fiercest pressure and just sticking to what you know and handling pressure. And, yeah, we, I think we tried it just sort of went away from that a little bit last week and, as I said, didn't handle the contest. And today, I just thought the way we were able to take tackles, drive with the ball, we use our numbers, yeah, it really stood out. And especially in parts of the game, we really needed it. Like I said, that third quarter went things started to get a bit tired

14:25and they were on top, our ability to focus on the contest and stick to roll and not trying to do anything outside of that. It requires everyone out there committing and connecting to, yeah, to what how we're trying to play and, yeah, it was just good to be a part of. You mentioned taking tackles. No one could put heat chap in doubt. And I always plays the unsung role. It gets the biggest of jobs and he doesn't seem to be too fazed by it and he just keeps running out contest to contest. Yeah, it's a type of personality. It is a pretty laid back character. So you sort of get that with him on the field when he's under real pressure, he's able to stand up and stay calm and just do what's required in the moment. And, yeah, there was a few guys like that. I thought Maddie Johnson early in the game was able to stand up in some tackles and really do some great stuff for us. But it was a really team effort and I'm just so proud of reaching everyone of us. The big guy in the centre-bouts, Luke Jackson was exceptional again.

15:28He was when you're needing him the most that he came to the fore. Absolutely. Some clutch goals as well. He's very reliable in front of go. Again, another bloke of if he's any more laid back, you'd be asleep during the day. And he goes back and just slots him when we need him. He's been a great player for us and he's had a great season and he stood up for us tonight when we need him the most. And one last one before we let you go and celebrate with your teammates. It's not quite laid back with describing Pat Voss. Do you give him a wide berth at training first and foremost? No, of course not. I guess not. You know, he's a competitor and that's what we love about him. He's a part of preparing for this week. It's about trying to connect to what makes each individual a good player and bringing that out. Everyone's different, has different strengths and I thought Vossy and the tall forwards today really stood up and they were aggressive.

16:29They laid pressure. They brought the ball to the ground which is something you need to do against this alongside. So all throughout the park each line, I think stood up and was able to do what was needed. Alex, congratulations on the win.
