Welcome to the last hope of a dying republic. I am your host, Reverend Bill Cook. I'm the founder and CEO of America's Black Road Regiment. My awesome white duties here with me. If you're wondering what the Black Road Regiment is, briefly it was one of the terms that British used to describe the pastors who fought in the Revolutionary War, who is a British playing for what they call the Rebellion. Today's Black Road Regiment is raising up courageous pastors' desecure liberty for our own in the next generation. They are the last hope or now dying republic. But we are not just raising up pastors, we're raising up patriots. And you maybe just the one needed to save this republic. I believe all of us have a role to play. For more information on America's Black Road Regiment, go to our website, brrusa.org. Today we are going to be talking about the Constitution because Constitution Day is going to be less than a week. We've been encouraging our Black Road Regiment pastors to get together with other pastors and watch a video that we recommended by David Barton about the Christian foundations of the Constitution.
Today we wanted to share before we introduce our guest. We want to share some quotes from this brochure called Christian quotes from the Founding Fathers. And it's published by Christian Heritage Fellowship. And if you're interested in getting a copy, you can go to our website and email us. And we will send you information on how to get. So we wanted to start the show with reading some quotes from some of the founders that indicate that they had a Christian faith. So our first one is President George Washington, father of the nation he was called and one of the three of the most important founding fathers. He commended Christ to Delaware Indian Chiefs in his speech on May 12 in 1779. He said, quote, you do well to wish to learn our arts and ways of life and above all the religion of Jesus Christ. Congress will do everything they can to assist you in this wise intention.
There are many quotes that can be found of George Washington indicating that he was a strong Christian. Secondly, I'm going to quote Ben Franklin, who many people say was not a Christian that he was a deist, but again, according to Dr Joseph Flick who wrote this brochure, there are many quotes that indicate that Ben Franklin knew the Lord. And here's one of them. History will also afford frequent opportunities of showing the necessity of a public religion and the excellency of the Christian religion above all others, Asian and modern. And let's see, I also want to quote Thomas Jefferson, who was a sign of the Declaration of Independence, wrote that Declaration of Independence and of course was our third president. He said, I too have made a wee little book from the same materials which I call the philosophy of Jesus. It is a paradigm of his doctrines made by cutting the text out of the book and arranging them on the pages of a blank book in a certain order or subject.
A more beautiful, or precious, more syllabetics, I have never seen. It is a document and proof that I am a real Christian. That is to say, a disciple of the doctrines of Jesus, very different from the play-knots who call me infidel and themselves Christian and preachers of the gospel. And now I am going to read you a quote by Roger Sherman, he is the only signer of all four of America's founding documents, who has said deeply committed Christian and openly confessed his faith, saying, I believe that there is only one living and true God existing in three persons, the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost, the same substance, equal in power and glory. Samuel Adams said, principally, and first of all, I resign my soul to the Almighty being who gave it and my body, I commit to the dust relying on the merits of Jesus Christ for the pardon of my sins. And finally, John Adams, the signer of the Declaration of Independence, Judge Diplomat, one of the two signers of the Bill of Rights and second president of the United States.
And he remembered the impact Christianity had upon the founding of America. The general principles on which the founding fathers cheap independence were the only principles in which a beautiful assembly of young gentlemen could unite. And what were these general principles? I answered the general principles of Christianity in which all these sex Christian denominations were united and the general principles of English and American liberty in which all those young men united. And which had united all parties in America in majorities sufficient to assert and maintain her independence. And one more John Quincy Adams was the son of John Adams who was the sixth president of the United States and also Secretary of State, US Senator, US Representative. And he said, quote, the hope of a Christian is inseparable from his faith whoever believes in the divine inspirational Holy Spirit must hope that the religion of Jesus shall prevail throughout the earth.
Never since the foundation of the world have the prospects of mankind been more encouraging to that hope than they appear to be at the present time and made the associated distribution of the Bible proceed and prosper till the Lord shall have made quote bear his holy arm in the eyes of all the nations and all of the ends of the earth. She'll see the salvation of our God. And that is a quote from Isaiah 52 10. So if you're interested in receiving this Christian quotes and the founding fathers, please contact us at BRR USA dot org. Today we are honored to have with us Dr. Michael Ferris. As many of you know, Constitution Day is Thursday September 17th and we've been the 237th anniversary, not the 250th because the Constitution was written at the end of the war for independence. And we have invited Dr. Michael Ferris was the constitutional lawyer and expert on the Constitution to join us today.
But first I'm just going to briefly read his very lengthy biography. We're going to keep it short or we won't have time to do the show. Dr. Michael Ferris is an American constitutional lawyer educator and conservative activist. He was born in the state of Washington and tended to Western Washington State College and earned a jurist doctor from Gonzaga University. In 1983, he founded the Home School Legal Defense Association to provide legal protection and advocacy for homeschool families. He founded Patrick Henry College Christian Liberal Arts College in 2000 and later served as chancellor. He served as a president CEO and general counsel for the prominent religious liberty legal group alliance, deepened freedom and currently serves as a general counsel for the natural religious broadcasters.
And one of his great claims to fame is that he and his wife Vicki have been married for how many years? 55 years. 55 years when an accomplishment and they have 10 children and there's the big question how many grandchildren? Just 32 today. Just 32 today. We also had had the honor 14 years ago of having Dr. Ferris give his beautiful and amazing six daughter to our third son to be his lawfully wedding wife. And we now share four beautiful and very gifted grandchildren with Dr. Mike and Vicki, which has been such a blessing. Hey man, they are great little kids. They are. They really are. Dr. Ferris is shooting mentioned with Constitution Day being September 17th. We knew that you would be a reliable source of information on that and explaining the biblical foundations of the US Constitution. Well, sure, I'd be glad to do that.
The Constitution, first of all, just the neat, what is a Constitution? What is it? It's a document that governs the government. It does not govern private action in grants power to government. It limits the power of government and it was created in 1787. And ratified shortly thereafter and got into effect shortly after that. But the there are key factors in the Constitution that come from the Christian worldview. The biggest is this is that men are sinners and you can't trust sinners with too much power. The enlightenment, which was the foundation of the French Revolution, holds the position of the perfectibility of man. And that worldview leads to growth of government power because they believe the government ultimately is the savior of mankind.
We have a Constitution that's limited power because we know that man is sinful so we didn't want to give too much power to anyone group of centers. And we want to have one group of centers watching another group of centers so that they would check each other off. That is the number one Christian worldview principle that's embedded in the Constitution is the spiritual necessity of limited government power. So we have enumerated powers. The federal government is only supposed to have the authority to act in the areas specifically authorized. They don't have plenary power. The states actually have a broader range of authority, which is more undefined than the federal Constitution. It's supposed to work at least. There's the way it's supposed to work the way it's written and the way it's operating today. So I'm talking for now at least about the way it is written and is written to give specific enumerated powers to the federal government.
And that power is divided up. The president has the power to execute the law. The Supreme Court has the power to in particular cases apply the law that the Congress wrote to the facts of the case and make a judgment to apply the Constitution to cases and make a judgment. But neither of those branches are supposed to be able to make the law and Article 1, Section 1 of the Constitution gives all legislative authority to Congress. And so we see that dividing the power so that the people that make the law don't get enforced the law. The people that enforce the law don't get to decide disputes. That's the judiciary because we want one group of centers having a little bit of power. And another group of centers having a little bit of power. And then you have federalism on top of that. So the states have other powers and they're supposed to check each other off. And so that is the absolute key limitation on federal power and it comes from the Christian worldview.
It also comes from the Christian worldview that government is not our savior. The purpose of government that's found in the Declaration, but that purpose is carrying forward in the Constitution. And it says that we are created equal. We're in doubt, bear created a certain inalienable rights. And among these are life liberty and pursuit of happiness. And this says for these reasons, for the protection of these rights, governments are a student among men. And so what's the purpose of government? It's not to supply all of our needs. That's a non Christian view of the role of government. And so when you have the purpose of government being godly, the limitations on government being godly, those are the big structural framework, if you will, of how the Christian worldview accounts for that. Now, no other country has ever started on this basis. We've been entertainers of the United States since then.
But no other country started on this basis. And you can't. There's no basis for believing in rights that are really rights, unless you have god. I have an album from the University of London and he went rights law on the first assignment. And that coursework was to answer the question that was a reading to answer the question, why are human rights universal. And the guy went through all the modern theories and said, these don't work because they depend on people giving us our rights. They depend on people giving us our rights. Then they're not universal. They're not because they give them to you. They can take them away. But then he said, the only thing that is internally consistent is the original view of human rights. And that is the Christian view because we're creating an image of god. We have an A-Level rights. He said, however, that's just a fairy story. So that can't be true either. So the bottom line of that article was we have human rights. They're universal, but we don't know why.
And I love the article because it actually pointed to the truth while demeaning it. Nothing else makes sense. And that's the reality. There's no other way to have a view of human rights, God given rights, Constitution rights, that are truly universal, that are truly beyond the power of government to invade, absent creator god. That's the only way you get there. And that's that's the foundation of our country. Wow. We're found. What about the signers of the Constitution and the delegates of the Constitutional Convention, were they all Christians or most of them Christians? Well, of course, when you and I use the term Christian, we mean born again that they're actually saved. And so the answer to that is, I'm pretty sure most of them were because knowing somebody's actual heart is, you know, through history is a little bit difficult.
You can look at a life like Patrick Henry. And there's no doubt that Patrick Henry was saved. You know, as best you can judge those kind of things by reading everything about their life. And I'm almost as confident that George Washington was saved. I don't think Thomas Jefferson was saved. I don't think Benjamin Franklin was saved. But they all had the elements of certain components of a Christian worldview. And that is they believe that there were eternal rewards and punishments. And that if you violate sacred duties here in this life, you'll answer for it in the next life. 100% of Americans believe that. I mean of the founders and virtually 100% of all Americans believe that as well. And so and the and the principles that I've just previously outlined about centers needing to check centers, they believe that too. And so there was a dominant Christian worldview in our culture. It was beyond question. It was a dominant view. And it and the shape that now, were they all saved?
No. But were they all influenced by the Christian world? Absolutely. Well, at the time, they would have been considered Christians in society. I mean, they probably all attended church. They did the things that were expected at the time. In terms of what you would expect a Christian to be at the time. I mean, Jefferson and Franklin in particular, of course, Jefferson wasn't at the constitutional convention. So, you know, we're talking about him as a founder, even though he wasn't one of the signers in Philadelphia. They were they attended church, but I don't I don't know that either one of the call themselves. I don't think it matters. Exactly what label they put on because what we're really trying to get out by that question is, were they thinking Christian, Biblical, in the way that they were creating the governor.
And so, that's without question. And judging their actual spirituality is a more difficult thing. And so the, you know, the best evidence of this. If somebody doesn't want to listen to a Christian advocate saying these things, there was a book written 30, 35 years ago by the Library of Congress. And so, there was a book about the Library of Congress. And so, it was a book about the Library of Congress. And so, it was a book about the Library of Congress. So, he was the chief historian on the early presidents for the Library of Congress. And he had this traveling exhibit on the religion of the founding of America. And his own words were evangelicalism dominated the culture. I mean, that's that's the reality. It dominated the culture. And so, the view point of that era was dominated by evangelicals. Christian, there's no other way to get around it.
You know, I, you know, don't think that there's any legitimate doubt about that. Now, the one thing that's important to talk about is what earlier society thought was a Christian nation, England, Belgium, France, Germany, for example, called the South Christian nations. In those places, you were forced to be a Christian by the power of the sword. And they had, they put a, you know, they would burn you at the stake if you didn't join up the right church, if you didn't sign the correct statement of faith. And they all had provisions in their laws for a very long time after the founding of America requiring you to be of the official faith, you know, the sect to hold office in that country. Now, the United States Constitution has a prohibition against a religious test for public office in the text of the Constitution. They did not want a coercive kind of approach that England had. And so some people, when they think Christian nation, they're thinking the England way of doing it.
Well, we came out of the great awakening and we're thinking it entirely differently. We're thinking that the culture is Christian and the culture gives us a free government. And but for that Christian culture, we don't have a free government. And so, you know, we had a Christian culture to be sure we didn't have religious test for public office at the federal level. It's a level we did for a while. We got rid of those early in the 1800s. But, you know, the founders thought that those things produced hypocrites. People would, you know, sign whatever they wanted to sign. And, you know, they wanted real Christians, not people who simply signed a piece of paper. And they thought that the people were judging. You know, they said, real clearly, we think the people should in their voting judge people's character judge people's faith. But we think, you know, the mere signing of a piece of paper creates frauds and hypocrites. And so, they achieved it differently. But their result was the result of Christian, biblical thing.

Now is our time for my fellow Americans, AmericaOutloud.News, Liberty and Justice for All. Welcome back to the laptop of a signed Republic. We are speaking with Dr. Michael Ferris, Constitutional lawyer and currently with National Religious broadcasters. He is educating us today about the Biblical foundations of the Constitution and also we're going to be talking about the state of the Constitution even now as we speak. But also just want to remind you to please go to BRRUSA.org to learn more about the Black Robe Regiment at the end of the show. The Black Robe Regiment played a major role in the period of history that gave us the war for independence and the Constitution and the New Black Robe Regiment is bringing Raid Stuff to Day to defend Liberty. Before the resurrection of Jesus Christ, America would have been impossible.
That's true because America is not based on geography alone or national heritage alone. It was created with a cluster of ideas. And so the cluster of ideas are dependent upon the New Birth in Jesus. And so the great awakening was essential to the founding of the country. And so the thing is it taught that you must be born again. And that was the essential thing. The Massachusetts religious hierarchy of that era experienced a problem with.
They had this idea of covenant and they thought they're children automatically in the covenant, but they realized they had raised a generation that didn't really believe in God. And so they came up with this thing called a halfway covenant. They could get certain rights and it's because they never tell you you must be born again. And so it was the great awakening that taught you must be born again. And that was the spark of freedom. It came from that. It's the belief that the government can't tell you what to do. I mean, for example, in Britain in the 1550s, there were people being put to death on a regular basis. And actually about 50, 60 years later when they first baptized really became visible with that name in England, they said, if the bishops will serve our penalty and hell for us, if they get the theology wrong, then let them dictate to us what we believe.
But until such time, if we're going to have to serve our own penalty and hell, then we can decide what we believe. And that impetus was in the great awakening. And that impetus was in the founding of America. And without that, you don't have America. You do not have America without the idea of that government has no legitimate basis over the hearts on my demand. That belongs to God. Now, the church has something to do that within your own congregation. But the church can't order you executed like the Anglican Church could or the Puritan Church could in Massachusetts. And they actually executed people for being baptized in Massachusetts. And here in Loudoun County, Virginia, the Anglican sheriff went and beat pastors on standing in a pulpit with their whip. And so, you know, these people did not believe in liberty. And liberty combined with the protection of God, the other rights, was what made America.
And that impetus for liberty came from the preaching. You must be warned again. And you don't get, you must be warned again without the resurrection of Jesus. Right. I've often said, because I teach about the, the public or the revolution and the role that pastors played. And I've often said that America was really reached into existence by the pastor of the founding era. There is substantial truth in that. So speaking about needing to have liberty in order to have this constitution, we have people who don't believe in liberty. As we believe in liberty, the newly formed DSA. And of course, they're talking about pretty much dismantling the concerts or many parts of this constitution. Do you away with the electoral college, which I believe our governor here in Virginia has already signed on to something regard to that with other governors can do any way the electoral college.
And so, as increasing the number of Supreme Court justices. So what are your thoughts on on that? DSA is our own midst of the Denver Democratic Socialist America. Virginia's governor, Abigail Spamberger and. AOC and Bernie Sanders and the mayor of New York, all cut from the same cloth. So the particular thing about the electoral college. Virginia is trying to join a compact, a state kind of back to hand our electoral votes over to whoever wins the popular vote. So it's a way, it's, it's a non constitutional way to basically make the electoral college be meaningless. And, and turn it into a popular vote contest, which is a way of turning our governance over to the big cities of the country, which is what what they're trying to try to do.
And the reason they want to do that is because the central core belief of the democratic socialists. And by the way, I would always say socialists is the keyword democratic barely modify socialism. You know, you just call it what it is is socialism. And, and so what they believe is that the purpose of government is to provide for the needs of the people. That is by definition atheistic because Christianity teaches that God provides for the needs, but he delegates that to parents, particularly fathers, fathers are to provide them for the needs of their families. So, so we move away from human responsibility and from God's providing hand into government being the provider for all of our needs. And so the reality is is that socialism is, you know, they will, they will keep a shell of the constitution in place, but they will rip out the inside and make it meaning.
And so it's a great danger. I don't believe that currently they have the ability to destroy the country. I believe that they're like in cultures waiting for the country to crash and that they intend to swoop in and try to take over when the crash comes. And the problem is we've got this big conglomeration in Washington, DC running the country. And there's a red squad of that clon immigration. There's a blue squad. The blue squad says elect us and we'll run on the country off the cliff 180 miles an hour. And the red squad says no, no, no, elect us and we'll run the nation off the cliff at 155 miles an hour. And the reality is whichever way we go, we're going off the cliff. And the national debt is a sufficient basis for saying we're going over the cliff at $40 trillion. I mean, we are incredibly close to hitting a no return point where we can't borrow enough money to keep the thing going. That's that's the point when we hit.
And I believe that we will hit that when we have to operate someplace between 25% and 33% of all of our tax revenue has to be dedicated to paying the interest on the debt for a very long time. It was between 6 and 10% of the federal tax revenues were required to pay the interest. Now as of today is 19.1%. That was actually last week. So it could be 19.2 by now. Right. Because the debt keeps going up so fast. But it's incredibly close to the point where we can't borrow enough money. And if that point comes, the wheels come off and then the socialists will take over. And so we're in a very precarious situation. And the only thing that has any semblance of chance to turn this country around is to get back to the Declaration of Independence to say, what's the purpose of government?
The purpose of government is to provide protection for our God-given liberties, not to provide for the needs of all people around the federal government spending over 60% of its money on social welfare programs. 60%. Right. That's a lot. We pay more interest on the debt than we do for national defense. It's incredible how badly out of whack we are. We are functionally as a socialist country. And the socialists are saying the solution to the financial crisis that's looming in this country is more socialism. That right. No. And so we have to have a more modest view of government. You want to have a profoundly robust country. You have a modest government. And for a modest government, you have to have modest expectation from the government. We're not going to get our college paid for by the government. We're not going to get our prescription drugs for paid by the government. Anyway, we haven't been out of debt since as the country since 1835. That means we are paying interest on the debt for the Mexican-American War and the Civil War and the Spanish-American War and World War I and World War II and Vietnam and Iraq War and all of, we're paying interest on all that stuff that's happened for the last 190 years.
It's not. We haven't been paying the principal down to zero since 1835. And so we're continuing just to refinance and refinance and refinance. We're refinancing all those old wars off Franklin Roosevelt, Comrade Roosevelt's programs. We're refinancing all of that. It is. We are not living under the Constitution in a practical sense. And the democratic socialists want to tear down the semblance of any restraints that we have and go to full blown socialism. We're practically there, but we still have some restraints. And we still have good strong protections for freedom of speech, pretty good protection for religious liberty. But it's really, really a very dangerous situation that we're living in. And the presence of these rising numbers of vultures that are out there weighing to pounds when the government collapses is very alarming.
We were on a prayer call last night, praying actually for a speaker and his wife and the upcoming conference in Dallas. And someone said they think it's very likely we could see at least 12 GSA candidates be elected. Do you think it's that high? Do you think people are that well? Yeah, I do think it's that high. I don't know. I hope it's not that high, but I would tell you there's not a lot of functional difference between them and the other Democrats. Yeah, that's what I think. So one group is the little more forthright. And, you know, okay, or let's do it this way. One of them is 80 miles an hour socialist. There's 150 miles an hour socialist. Yeah, there's a difference, but 15 votes can't do anything.
However, 15 votes can go the Democrats, if the Democrats get the majority, the 15 votes will go that majority into into complying with their wishes because what they'll say is if you don't do what we want, we're going to primary you. And the person the primary is actually the more alarming of the thing because that means anybody pretends to be anything like a normal old fashioned Democrat is going to be gone. And so, so what will that mean? That mean they'll all start acting like progressives and like, you know, the DSA socialist, you know, 150 mile an hour socialist, less they be thrown out on their rear. So that's that's what will happen if we have a Democrat takeover and you know, it's even five or 10 and then it'll end at the 15 fiber 10 of them will be sufficient to scare the daylights out of the Democrats and they will move in a very radical direction.
And do you think there are enough people who would go for the idea of no police or fewer police and no prisons, I mean, that's just an extreme statement they're making or do they really are there really people that think that we should have no police and no prisons. I mean, I can see that but. Well, there are people who believe that are they a majority of the Democrat voters now. But but 62% of Americans have a favorable review, excuse me, of young Americans have a favorable view view of socialism. And so and a third of young Americans, meaning 18 to 29 years old have a favorable view of communism. And so when you when you start off with a generally favorable view, then it's it's very, very concerning because.
Why do they have this view? They went to public schools, they went to colleges that teach us that that's why they're going TV TV and I watch the news and watch MSNBC and other interviews reinforced. That that's their continuing education. You wouldn't go a day without brushing your teeth or washing your hands. What about washing your nose? Welcome back to the last of the diner republic we are speaking with doctor Michael Ferris. You founded the homeschool legal defense and we're so glad you did because we homeschooled our children and now channel our 12 grandchildren are being homeschooled and but we are kind of concerned about the future of homeschooling. So especially with what we've been talking about regard to the country leaning to the left with the national education association certainly not being in favor homeschooling we're concerned about the future of homeschooling which you're a few point on the future of homeschooling at this point well. When I started homeschooling the defense association in 1983 if you asked all 50 state attorney generals is it legal the homeschool all 50 would have said no from the relative to their state now even as a matter of basic statutory law about three or four of them would be the wrong it was my position at the time as civil is that all 50 were wrong because the Constitution the United States protects the right appearance to direct the upbringing of the country.
So I'm not going to direct the upbringing of their children including the direction of their education which includes the right to homeschool and so what about 25 years after I founded HSLBA if you asked all 50 state attorney generals isn't legal the homeschool your children. So she would have said yes it is legal now a bunch of women like that but they would have meant that it was legal now if you ask them today then you know about 25 or 30 of what's eight yes legal and we love it and then another group would say it's legal for now but just watch because that's what's coming that's the mood of the leads in the education industry. Is they are coming after homeschooling not because our academics are top of the line because they are not because of any other factor but they don't like the philosophical content that kids are learning in homeschooling they you know what one of the law professors have written about this says that we teach against the enlightenment and that somehow from her perspective is illegal or at least should be illegal.
And and she's absolutely right we do teach against the enlightenment why because we teach it kismet must be born again and that truth comes from God that you know so you know we teach about the enlightenment but you know our kids probably know more about the history of that era than the typical public school kid does but we don't teach them to believe the principles of the enlightenment. Now last night I finished watching with Vity a new movie about President Reagan's face off with Corbetschoff in Reykjavik, Iceland it's called the Brink of War it was it was a very good movie and I would encourage people to watch I watch it on angel and and so but the there was one interchange between President Reagan and Gorbachev that I was really telling and he said you know he was he was talking about President Reagan was talking about the failures of communism and Gorbachev replied with in your country there are homelessness the homeless people we don't have any homeless people in our country and there are other other components my focus on that one because what what they're saying but I just a clicked with me.
This is basically saying we don't allow people to have on that needs at a very basic level he said they have the right to a place to live and I am I was in the Soviet Union when Gorbachev was still in control and I was in some of those apartment buildings and you might as well have been homeless but what they what they it's basically the economic equivalent of participation trophies is that nobody can fail in a social system and and what they do is what would would made the Soviet people that I visited when I was there in 1988 I was shocked to find that they really believed that their vision was right for people and it was because this this baseline that everybody has a basic need and we're going to meet that basic need now we don't mind taking away their freedom we don't mind let making them live in terror to
do that because at the bottom at the end of the day it'd be better to live in fear in your in your little Hubble that we give you than and and to stand in bread lines than it is to you know this bear minimum for existence so we're barely scraping together that's better for you than living in freedom because in freedom you might fail and and so it was a very interesting insight we have been focusing on just like Gorbachev speech American public education for at least 25 years or a little longer has been focusing on the faults of America you know under the guise of telling no more comprehensive version of the truth well there's something to be said for a little bit of that but if you would teach it in accurate balance you know America's about 98% great and 2% we've messed up badly or maybe it's 9010 I don't know what I'm saying 9010 I don't know but it's it's it's dominantly a great story and just like any human institution there's going to be mistakes along the way but if you don't if you if you so emphasize the flaws what you're doing is you're conditioning people to say we've got this fault and this fault and this
fault and we need a socialist government so nobody fails everybody gets a participation trophy and everybody gets this and as the what would be the incredible said if everybody special then nobody special you do you know you don't want to live in a country where you live in fear of your government I don't care what basic level of goods and services they give you that fear isn't worth it and and so so we're teaching away from that all schoolers are teaching that it's good it's a good thing America is good that God is great that there's truth that you can learn to read by this really clever thing in English letters make sounds if you're going to teach people to read Chinese or you know Mandarin or Cantonese yeah they're they're symbols don't make sounds they're a little picture you know and so it looks same makes sense if you're reading one of the two Chinese languages but you know we teach differently we teach different content and the bottom line we teach a different philosophy and and they're coming after us and so there's been bad bills in Virginia in Illinois there's a really bad bill that just got passed in Connecticut if somebody's ever called the child abuse hotline against you even if it's proven to be false you can't hope school
on the list and so the the it's it's there is a new movement of foot to rain at home schooling and there have been voices that have called from the banning of all private education so that we they the left gains philosophic control over all children and so you know what the Albert Finneman from Emory Law School will an article advocating that Kimberly Euraco at Northwestern University the law deep Dean there is said very similar things not the total banning but the philosophical control Catherine Ross at George Washington University same kind of thing they're all coming for philosophical control of homeschooling and a Elizabeth Barclay at Harvard held a conference to advocate that these are trained the future leaders the future leaders are coming after our rights and our freedoms and homeschoolers who don't know that this is on the way are blind we need to do the things that we did to win our freedoms in the first place that is we fought with the legal system and you know people need to keep being members of homeschool legal defense association they need to subactively support their state organizations those are the people that's how we want in the first place God's blessing and the active work of HSL DA and the state organizations work together thousands and thousands of homeschool people and we want by the blessing of people.
By the blessing of God and so that's that's what's going on and we we've got to read up our commitment to fight for freedom and then so are you seeing more court of seeing court cases on the rise then there are court cases on the rise the last major skirmishes have all been in legislatures the court cases are yet follow the legislation a little bit so I'm expecting a lot of litigation and Connecticut it's really bad bill has been passed there and so you know it's kind of the one to punch right now you to be sure there's still court cases but the upswing is really bad legislation. What percentage of homeschoolers are not Christian is there an increase say amongst Muslim homeschooling or Asian I would think it might be increasing amongst. Muslim well to some degree i'm sure there are right it's not particularly noticeable there's a you know I get calls to reporters and I see articles all the time that we here's this new discovery here's this growing number of it's usually secular homeschoolers.
And I'm sure that there has to be some place some mussels but I i'm not ever encountered any organized effort in that way and so well yeah I know there are some in northern Virginia there are many matter fact I saw them on like we were looking for. With my own children looking for like a drama class or sports or something like that or Muslim organizations and that's 20 years ago that's okay as far as I'm concerned I rather than. Sure you have just curious on the rise but but every all forms of homeschooling around the rise you know I from my perspective evangelical homeschooling. Plus serious Catholic. Like those two together it's about two thirds of homeschoolers there's Catholics that are you know in name only. Most you know Joe Biden Catholic in name only yeah okay there are serious Catholics there are maybe 10% of homeschoolers but but evangelicals and serious Catholics about two thirds and has been sincerely at ease.
So that ratio and are there more secular homeschoolers yet because there's more homeschoolers told it's not a third and and they don't believe all the principles that I've been talking about here the secular group but they do believe this they believe that they have the right as parents to direct the education of their children and they're right. Christians have proven that they stand for that I I want a case for Christian homeschoolers in Michigan. And on a five to four or four to three vote of the Michigan Supreme Court and on a four to three vote the other way lost a case for a secular family basically the Michigan Supreme Court said. And the Christian leaders of Michigan homeschooling pass a statute right after that that made it clear that all homeschoolers could homeschool not just Christians and so.
And I can give you other example but that's the cleanest easiest example to say because we believe that God gave kids to their parents not to the government and we believe that for Christian parents we believe that for Muslim parents we believe that for. We believe that for secular parents and we hope that while they hang around homeschooling with what they're going to get saved right. That's why we have possibility yeah. Well it's good to know it's on the rise and I would imagine I know it was on the rise after COVID once parents saw what was actually going on through their computer screens and then I believe it probably has gone up because of transgender ideology some Christian families maybe concerned about that. You're right on both counts are in coven it was a really big growth homeschooling went from about almost doubled it went from about five to six percent of the school age population to 10 10 and a half percent of the school age population is it's gone back down but not down to five it's down to about eight.
So there was a COVID you know blip but it did not we did we kept about half the growth that happened so that it's still much bigger than it was and and so it's it's growing and the reason it's growing is very simple. People look at other people's kids that have been homeschooled they go. Those are good kids those are great kids I like like my kids and turn out that and then look at the parents they go they're just average parents. So and so that that secret of homeschooling right there is look at the kids you know as everybody perfect no but is the dominant storyline the absolute dominant storyline and the average I mean they're very perfect in the public schools. No there's lots and tons of failure there's kids graduating from high school that can't read first grade books and so it's it's it's horrible what's going on there and so free country there's going to be failure but but people that love their kids don't put their kids in a failing system they get them in a place that they can succeed.
