So good morning Britain was halted for an update on Scott Mel's BBC Xing.
Writing for the daily record, Jess Phillips and Georgia Burns.
Have been talking about this.
They say on a tense morning broadcast, good morning Britain hosts Kate Garroway and Paul Brand.
Joined a reporter as they broadcast live from outside the BBC studios following the sudden dismissal of the presenter, Scott Mel's.
The update came less than 24 hours.
After news broke that Mel's had been removed from his role on BBC Radio 2,
reportedly due to a complaint concerning his personal conduct.
The segment quickly set a serious tone with Paul and Kate pausing their usual programming to get the latest developments.
They turned to correspondent Nick Dixon, who outlined the rapidly unfolding situation live from outside the BBC studios.
He said this has all happened very quickly and as much as the BBC has appeared to act quite decisively here,
without giving any detail of what exactly has happened.
It is yet another very high profile presenter leaving in really quite a challenging situation with many difficult headlines for the BBC this morning.
Nick emphasized the significance of Mel's long standing career, reminding viewers that he had been a familiar voice across multiple platforms,
including BBC Radio 1 and 2.
So he goes on, Scott Mel's was a very popular presenter on the network, network over a long period of time.
He had a career in television and in radio.
He started on Radio 1, moved to 5 live of course, and ended up presenting the flagship Radio 2 Breakfast Show.
The daily record goes on, his track record with the company working his way through the ranks on Radio for the BBC
made the abrupt nature of his departure, a complete shock to viewers and his BBC colleagues alike.
Perhaps most surprising, as Nick pointed out, was how unaware Mel's appeared to be of the impending decision.
He signed off on Tuesday of last week.
From his programme seemingly unaware that anything was about to take place.
Good morning Britain, then aired clips of Mel's cheerfully telling listeners, see you tomorrow.
While signing off, what would become his final broadcast after the clip, Nick continued,
Scott Mel's sacked from the BBC over allegations surrounding his personal conduct,
the way in which the BBC has responded so quickly, does suggest a real shift within the organisation.
Reports this morning that the sacking of Scott Mel's are being linked to a 2016 police investigation into serious sexual offences against a teenager.
The Mirror have published a statement from the police, saying the case was ultimately dropped
due to a lack of evidence.
He said, we haven't been able to verify that statement from the met police.
The BBC, however, will be focusing now on Scott Mel's replacement for their flagship Radio 2 breakfast show.
The front runner at the moment appears to be Vernon K.
And that is the latest there.
On Scott Mel's, meanwhile we hear at NewsK365, we move on to some weird facts.
Did you know the honey never spoils?
Archaeologists found 3,000-year-old honey in Egyptian tombs that were still perfectly edible.
Did you know a group of flaming... oh, we did this one.
Yeah, we've done this one. Flamboyance. A group of flamingos is called a flamboyance. I did not know.
I'm getting a... what?
Temu keeps on sending me messages saying I won something free.
I just ignore them, but it's a pain because I keep on getting the buzzing sound.
Anyway, let's move on. This shortest war in history was between Britain and Zanzibar in 1896.
It lasted 38 minutes, almost the opposite of Trump's war in Iran, really, when you think about it.
Did you know bananas are technically berries, but strawberries aren't. Isn't botany wild?
Did you know the Eiffel Tower grows six inches taller in the summer because metal expands when it's hot?
The world is so gloriously strange. Have you got a weird one?
Fun fact, I mean. Send it in. The best ones will get featured, even the worst ones, quite frankly.
We're not picky here. We'll take anything. Weird facts are done for now. Your brain is now slightly more chaotic.
Coming up throughout the day, we have more on Scot Mills, and we do have our rapid fire tips coming up a little later on.
