Goodbye Gabi + Timber training & Saliba squad hint

Thank you very much for joining me here on the channel, the home of course of the Premier League champions who are back in action in two days time. Arsenal vs Chelsea at the Emirates on Sunday afternoon. Big, big game at the Emirates. Michaela Teta is going to be talking a little bit later on today in his pre-match press conference at London Colney. I will try and pop back on after that at some point later on this afternoon just to go over the big headlines for him. I'll probably get the latest on obviously team news, his reaction to the transfer window closing and the lack of income in France. And we'll see what you have to say about that. Obviously, Gabra and Marceli who are going to talk about in a minute that move was confirmed yesterday. So I'm sure also some nice stuff about Gabby as well. So plenty, plenty for us to get stuck into today.

1:04We'll go ahead of the latest team news. Look at lots of you have been sending interviews and comments as well. So I'll go through some of those. There is only one place to start and that is obviously the news. The K at 5 pm last night, 5 30 pm. Sorry. Last night, the Gabra, Marceli's move has now been confirmed. He is no longer an Arsenal player after seven years. There is, if you're watching on YouTube holding up his new shirt at our allow number seven. Marceli is going to wear 60 million fixed fee for Martin, Ellie Arsenal do have a cell on included as well should he return to Europe or go elsewhere at some point further down the line. So I am just going to talk a little bit first of all about Gabriol Martin, Ellie and kind of how I feel about him and how this move has, how this transfer has kind of maybe feel. Pretty upset. I have to say and look, I think this was the right time. So Gabriol Martin, I do, I don't criticize the transfer to other people. I'd have liked Arsenal to have replaced him.

2:05Definitely like Arsenal to have replaced him. They didn't do that. But I do feel like this was probably the right summer to do it in terms of obviously only other year left on his contract with an option. But still had a year left on his contracts. Progressive kind of flatlined a little bit. Certainly Premier League wasn't up to sort of Premier League output wasn't up to what would have come to expect last season from him. So I don't criticize the transfer. I think it was probably the right time to sell and I always knew and I spoke about it at the end of last season. This summer was going to be a summer where we were going to have to accept some pretty uncomfortable algorithms to be fair. I thought there might even be more than we've had to kind of accept so far this summer. I think it's a real sort of big one. So obviously I'm a Martin Elliott Trossard who are just such in such integral players over the last few years. But I think we might know why it just feels a little bit different even to Trossard is the kind of story and the journey that he's been on since he arrived at a club in a seven years, he made 278 appearances in all competitions for Arsenal. That is a big, big number of appearances.

3:0662 goals. He's got another 30 odd assists and is giving us some really, really big moments and it's not just and I'll talk about those moments in a minute, but it's not just about that it's the way he played the incredible desire to do right by Arsenal. So you know the work ethic, which was just on another level, you could genuinely, genuinely feel the love that he had for the club, the fact that they'd taken this chance on him when other clubs had rejected him and brought him over to Europe for trials and said no, and sent it back to Brazil, then Arsenal brought him over, did make that deal happen, brought him to England, then gave him this sort of platform to go on and become the player that he's become a Premier League winner, a World Cup performer for Brazil. You know, it's made close to 30 appearances for his country now and that's all down to the platform that Arsenal gave him and you could just tell when you spoke to Martinelli, the love that he felt for Arsenal because of that and the appreciation that he had for Arsenal because of that, it just it just spilled out of him whenever you talk, I remember his last contract negotiation, he had with Arsenal, we were all down at London Colony doing a sort of roundtable with him before Champions League game and James Ben jost him about the contracts and he was just like, just give me the pen, just give me the pen and I'll sign it.

4:17And you know, a lot of players kind of say that just for the sake of it, for the sound by, but you can tell him, it wasn't that, it was a genuine truth, he would just sign for Arsenal, he wanted to say Arsenal, I absolutely believe he wanted to say Arsenal, this summer we'll get to his Instagram post in a minute, you know, he's ambition at the start, this summer wouldn't have been to leave, it would have been to stay and you know, to try and go again with Arsenal next season when it comes to defending the Premier League, obviously Arsenal had other ideas, they felt this was the right time to move. And the decision was taken to try and get him out of the club, however you feel about that, that is kind of how it all panned out, could it have been handled better, I think it absolutely could have been handled better. But I also think football is a bit of a sort of doggy dog world, we know that and maybe, maybe Arsenal do need to start getting tougher with some of these things we know the struggles they've had with setting players, maybe, maybe if they're going to get better sellers they do just kind of have to take the emotion out of it a little bit more and get a little bit tougher.

5:17And I do ultimately think this is a pretty good deal for them for the club and it's a record breaking deal, of course, absolutely smashes the previous record with Alex Oxlach, Chamberlain was just stood for far too long and hopefully this kind of sets a bit of a tone for future sales for Arsenal that they can start generating this sort of fee for players, but it is a sad day, it is a sad day to see him go, you know, he's been so integral to rebuild under Michaela Teta, the, you know, he was here and when he arrived, he was just kind of ray of light, might not have been able to do that. And when he first burst onto the scene as a teenager, you know, straight and came in that summer to be an academy player. And I remember running the stories about Arsenal going out to sign in as Francis Caggial played such a huge part in that deal. Brian McDermott as well for the ready manager was Narsal Scout and the Francis at that time. I remember speaking to him, I've done interviews of Brian since that and you know, he was having involved in that process as well with Scout and him and they knew he was raw, but they decide they could see something in this kid that they wanted to take a chance in where I was. Had a board over to be an academy player, but within a few months, we're even shorter than that he'd already forced his way into the first team, picture Arsenal, just because of the way train, the way he worked and the training pitches the London Coling.

6:28So he forces way into the team and and just immediately, you know, hit the ground running and again, he was just that, as I said, sort of ray of light at a time when we were really in the doldrums, to be honest, and you needed something to hang on to and he provided something for us to hang on to in those early times when he came on, he was scoring goals left right and center. And he just look like he had the world at his feet at that point, you're a club, obviously calling him like a talent at the century, all that sort of stuff. Did he go on and live up to that sort of hype, did he fulfill the the early promise I'm not sure he did. I mean, you can point the finger of blame, or pretend we're not blame because he still had a brilliant career at Arsenal, fantastic career, but I'm not quite sure he ever hit the heights that maybe we were hoping he was going to when he first arrived. When he first broke onto the scene, but he still had an unbelievably good career at the club. And yeah, you just I think you can tell by the reaction to the transfer that it's a tough one for a lot of people to take because Martin, he meant a lot to them, you meant a lot to me and yeah, I really wish him well, I'll go for some of my big sort of moments of art and he's provided us with some big big moments across his time at the club.

7:33I think back to the ones that really sort of stand out for me, the winner against Manchester City in 2023, I think was when we hadn't beaten them for ages, it was nil nil, obviously about sort of five minutes to go and he had that I think it deflected enough, I come in with who it was it deflected it off the North bank and my dad still talks about that as one of the loudest years he's ever heard at the Emirates and just the celebrations of follows absolutely bedroom in the ground when that went in. Now finally get one over Manchester City starting to believe we can actually beat them and they're not on this sort of pedestal anymore we would we'd found a way to beat them and just the noise and the celebrations when that go and it was just an incredible credible moment one that I'll always remember. The goal of Stanford bridge, obviously in the apps, I mean I wasn't in the way and at that point I was in the press I was in the press box on the halfway line. But when he scored just the bedroom in the in the away end behind the goal you know Arsenal down to 10 minutes at that point and then you got this. Martin early running the 11th pitch to equalize just a real special moment equalized last season what an important goal that was last season who knows how the season would have turned out if man City got an early win against Arsenal.

8:36But it was Martin that he's finished with proof to his last primary goal for the club. You know what a moment that was and then the one that really stands out that I'll never forget was the burn about one of my favorite ever nights watching and covering and working. Doing this job that I do and being being at the burn about my first ever time at the burn about and my nearly just racing clear in the last minute to give us all the win we already knew they're going through anyway but to give us all the win on the night to win at the burn about to score that type of goal that he did. Yes, just such number leave all night and. Not just in the stadium but outside the stadium afterwards he sort of came out came out the press box came down you could just hear the way fans still outside the way entrance the Martin Ellie song the drums were playing the whole way through the night. You know I was out in the town in the city center after that celebrating like four in the morning and you could just you could hear wherever you were sort of whistling down the streets Madrid. The Martin Ellie song. It was just an unbelievable night that I'll always have with me that night at the burn about and Martin Ellie so it's a shame it's a shame ultimately again I do think it was the right it's the right move and I hope he does well but it is a shame when you see someone who you really really like.

9:53Leave the club. So yeah it is a shame he did do it is an Instagram post yesterday was a long one part of it on the screen there if you're watching on YouTube is interesting there is no mention of the killer Teta in that I don't know if you read a lot of people are reading a lot into that I don't know if that's. I don't know if it is worth reading the line to but it is the you know there was no mention of in there's no photo of the killer Teta at the time you know we've got photos that you posted. I am absolutely sure that Martin Ellie has gone with a tinge of disappointment of how it's all been handled you know absolutely he didn't want to leave that wasn't the idea. As I said he's plan was to stay but I think it became very clear is the summer progress that Arsenal did not want him to stay and there was some uncomfortable conversations had Michaela spoken about how difficult those were. And I do think might really probably feels a little bit let down in the way it was handled the gallotaster I think which clearly wasn't a popular. Wasn't a popular thing for him that that emerged again he wasn't interested but then the other stuff came and I think he knew at that point that he was either not going to play or he had to make this movie decided to make it and I do feel like he's probably going to feel there's going to be a tinge of disappointment in how.

11:02How it ended for him at Arsenal so i'm not sure if the the Instagram post and the lack of the lack of mention of Michaela was thanks to Michaela the coaching staff I don't know how much there is to read into it but it is obviously. Quite an interesting thing and i'm not surprised that a lot of people have picked up on it and if he has gone with that sort of sense of I don't know betrayals the wrong word but. Just a disappointment in how is handled that will be that will be upsetting really because it would have been nice if if he could have gone. You know we've gone good terms with everyone but I think football a lot of time and transfers happen it's very rare that everyone leaves on. On good terms certainly for a fans point if you such a popular player and if he ever does come back to the Emirates and I really hope that does happen it would be great to give them a proper send off and proper good by elsewhere williams the lever has been named in Arsenal champions league league phase squad. Which is a positive sign I suppose because it means that Arsenal believe there's a good chance that he might well be back playing before the league phase finishes I remember not too long ago when Gabriel jesus was due back in like November.

12:06And they left him out of the squad so he couldn't play in the league phase i remember at the time question and Michaela tetra about that at a press conference and asking him and he was like well you know we don't know if he's going to be back and if he is how long it's going to take to get up to speed so the fact that they've actually included Celebra in this one. Positive sign you think in terms of how long it's going to be until he comes back if they think there's a chance of him playing in a least sort of two or three of the games towards the end of the league phase that that is a positive we haven't really you know Michaela doesn't really update us when we are asking about Celebra just says look it's a longer term one will have to wait and see how it all. How it all progresses but he has been named in that Champions League squad the Premier League squad was also announced yesterday the 25 man squad that was submitted to the Premier League after the transfer window closed you can see it there on the screen if you're watching on. YouTube the homegrown players who were in there the eight of them as a cons a matter of a Kriya sack of Celebra rice and white restaurant Kepper Calafuri Gabrielle Bruno Victor Kai have a and capy a burino Melier or scarato de God timber solace mendi you won't see like Mars do a scale your.

13:07There's a lot of things that you can't see on there that doesn't mean he's been left out squad is just he's on because he's under 21 he can go on the other list they don't need to include him in that 25 man squad but he can still obviously play the same with max down when as well and Marley salmon no sort of players so just because you don't see them on the squad doesn't mean they can't play and they haven't been included they're just on the the under 21's list. Right team news wise if you're watching YouTube you can see pictures there you're in timber out training which is a real real positive lovely to see that even doing some work with the rest of the squad as well that was just a kind of warm up stuff at the start the session like rondo's and keep you up some of that sort of stuff I don't think he would have been involved in any of the full contact training that followed he was working on his own yesterday by all accounts after the sort of initial early warm up of the training session but that's really positive news to see him out there. He's working with the group at times you know using the ball properly doing his own individual work you know really positive to see a real big step up in terms of timber and his potential return because his return can't come soon enough so simple as that that Ben White's done great and it's great to see what I plan and looking fit and looking sharp but kind of you don't want to have to be planned at Ben White every single week because you just know what's going to happen is eventually is what he's going to say that this isn't this isn't doing it for me and all breakdown so we need timber back as soon as possible so you can start to share those minutes.

14:27We've done white and also just because during Tim was a fantastic player so you need him back so that's a real positive training there was no Bruno Gimmar Rice at training yesterday no mascara as well they were both they were both there at the training ground but neither of them were involved in the session we know mascara had that hamstring issue slight hamstring issue against asked and villa that forced him off in the second half comes the coming on for him. He's got him. Michele saying after the villa game that was just precaution only but not involved in training which suggests potentially is a very very much a big doubt for this weekend's game. Bruno I think could be slightly different I mean I'm sure Michele will sort of do his usual usual update when he when he's asked about Bruno later on today but he did obviously was injured came back for the villa game there was a suggestion at the end of the villa game when he did that sort of that bit of play where he eats chef. He did the ball out for a goal kick and sort of celebrated I think about sort of 93 minute you sort of celebrate with Gabrielle when he when he kept the ball out for a goal kick.

15:29He looked like he was limping and grimacing a bit after that but then after that he did do that mad run into the penalty area where you should have got penalty when he was brought down so he looked fine to be able to do that run so I think we've. With give our eyes as well because he's coming back from this injury issue that he had there probably there's sort of load management going on there as well so I think just because he wasn't involved yesterday I don't necessarily mean that's think that sort of. You know broken down again or anything like that or it's a relapse of the original injury hopefully hopefully it's just load management for him because he certainly want Bruno involved against Chelsea this weekend of really good news really good news about your in timber. Okay a few comments and questions now before we wrap this one up for today Sam first of all says I would go with the following start and 11 against Chelsea assuming there are no new injuries we are unaware of. Raya white concert Gabrielle Calafuri rice Bruno Oda guard Saka have a solid sets exactly but I would go with as well Sam I have to say for this game if they are all fit.

16:30Sam continues saying this is a real opportunity to make a statement at home against a potential title challenger this season let's go have our strongest available 11 despite solace is uncharacteristic 45 minutes against Villa on Monday I would start against Chelsea has been unbelievable since I'm for us I would leave as an event to make an impact from left wing or the number 10 position if needed thank you very much for your views on that one Sam appreciate it Jason as well as going touch in terms of the Chelsea games is regarding the big goals for Chelsea I back proven experience across the world. Bruno comes a is a while the solid signing is exciting as a easily has a high ceiling on that left flank over the next couple of seasons and inform as a elevates our attack more than any other setup but he only reaches that gear with an extended run out wide Alexis solace is a fantastic rotation option but I'm looking peak as a is our best past to making up for not landing a marquee attack. I do see me kill you know I'm going to have to I still will actually play solace in this game I'll start solace and have as a on the bench is an option in the second half to come on.

17:34But look if I get to the game on Sunday and he's fine is there won't be any I won't have any concerns about that and I do think we're going to see a lot this season as well and I get exactly what you mean I think we can get the very best job as we can find the kind of the crystal palace as a and allow him to express himself like that for us know then we're going to be. And then we're going to be a much better team for it because that version of as a that we saw for crystal palace was so exciting and it would be great to see him doing that on a consistent basis for us know certainly a little bit more consistent we saw from him last season thank you very much Jason for that one. Tim now says for years we lost our best players for next to nothing as a round because all a wheelchair we complained about everyone now a player we have spent two seasons criticizing has gone for our record fee and we are wailing as if the club has committed a crime are we becoming Chelsea selling home grown heroes without a second thought or are we simply a cup playing paying the bills for years buying without selling. I think it's definitely the latter on that regard you know this summer was definitely a summer as I said for a while but not too we were going to have to have some uncomfortable sales this summer because of the situation asked or in because of the summer that asked without the previous 12 months earlier when they spent so much money without bringing in that was never going to be able to happen this time sales were going to be linked with with sorry incoming work and a link with sales there was a lot of pressure on Andrea Bertha for America to make some sales.

19:01And so yeah I think it's more the latter than the we're going to just be selling our home grown heroes without a second thought you know we saw the reaction when the miles with skellies stuff broke early on in the summer I don't think we're ever going to be that sort of club who are just certainly from a fan base anyway who are just willing to accept that sort of thing happening as a as a reaction to the mile stuff show. Super dude says hey Charles two things do you see any free agents we should get for cover also if you join in haters we'd be posting daily still yes I will yeah the the HATES thing is sort of co lab thing is definitely not going to impact in any way what do you hear on the channel exact the channel doesn't change still do it record exactly the same things on the main channel on patron the shows that the HATES the HATES thing is sort of co lab thing between me and them just sort of join in the team team team. So I don't know how will their coverage throughout the season be sort of arsenal voice for them at times when they when they need me and stuff so yeah absolutely does not impact in any way the inside arsenal channel in any way do I see any free agents so we should get for cover and not particularly I have to say no I sort of looked at some of that listen like nah.

20:12For me at no point going in and and spending the wages on any of those finally one from Carmel there says didn't know I did not really push for the door move what was it asked was idea having counted numbers in attack I feel like he could have played a big role at some point this season I think it was very much. Ethan and Ethan's people's idea to get him out and play some minutes this season I think mckel would have preferred him to stay but I think he's also was aware of the need for Ethan to play and to play record he said it himself in a press conference a few weeks ago didn't he when he was talking about Ethan you know I when he was asked do you want to keep him as well yes but if you're not going to play the point doesn't matter if I want to keep him if you're not going to play at his age it's not going to do him any good so I think he then and his people well not I think I know that he's people wanted him to get out and to get some minutes I felt it was best for him. And I think low is maybe a bit of a reluctant acceptance from from our teta he he sort of agreed it would be a good thing for them so the club sanctioned it so that's as far as I'm aware on the easy one area.
