Gunsmoke, “Joe Phy,” first broadcast August 9, 1954, is episode 121 of the classic CBS radio western. William Conrad stars as U.S. Marshal Matt Dillon, with Parley Baer as Chester. The episode was written by John Meston and directed by Norman Macdonnell.

While tracking a wanted man, Dillon and Chester reach the frontier town of Elkader, where Joe Phy has established himself as a feared U.S. marshal. Dillon recognizes trouble in Phy’s claim to authority, but revealing his own identity could complicate the search.
