You're listening to Bill Handel, on demand from KFI AM640.
And now, Handel on the news.
Ladies and gentlemen, here's Bill Handel.
All right, good morning, everybody.
It is a Wednesday morning, Hooked Day, Wednesday March 18th.
And we're in the middle of this hot, hot, hot spell.
I think we broke every record out there for the month of March, if I'm not mistaken.
In the meantime, on East Coast, of course, they were going into storm after storm after storm after storm.
So Amy, good morning.
And what tell me a little bit about how long this hot spell is going to be hot?
Through Friday, we are under an extreme heat warning until Friday at 8 p.m.
Temperatures expected 20 to 35 degrees above normals.
And you mentioned some heat break, heat records falling.
Yesterday in downtown LA, it was 97 degrees, breaking a record set in 1914.
And so, come Saturday, it's going to be what temperature?
About 10 degrees cooler.
Okay.
Yeah, so it'll be in the 80s and 90s on Saturday.
Not going to be hot, but not hot.
Yeah, not hot.
You know, we haven't done the sounder.
Kona, we've got to come up with that sounder that we have in the archives.
Because I've got a bunch of them, you know, talking about the heat.
It's hot, but it's not as fits.
Because the point is that it's not as fits, it is hot.
It's hot aroma.
It's very, it's heat again.
What is very like a Schwitz calculator or there is a Schwitz calculator?
Yes.
What point does it become not just hot, but a Schwitz?
Well, you see, you're now conflating Schwitz and heat.
No, Schwitz is like humidity, right?
That's right.
Schwitz is hot plus humidity Schwitz.
It's a barometer.
Schwitz, and if it's hot and not as fits, then it's just hot.
The barometer, it depends on what segment of the Jewish religion you are for reform people,
for all to orthodox people.
It's all different.
One, it's the undercarriage.
Yes.
The other way.
My pay is sweating.
Yeah.
Okay.
So anyway, it's hot, but it's not as fits.
We rarely have Schwitzie hot here in Southern California.
Okay.
Neil, good morning to you.
Good morning.
Good morning.
And there is our taktami, Konoz there.
And there you are.
Good morning.
And before I forget, which I will almost instantaneously, will good morning.
You know, I was driving the other day at nine o'clock when you were like, he was well
here today.
Thank you so much.
Really?
Yeah.
Love that.
If I'm not looking at you, you are not there.
Well, where have you been the last two days?
Well, I took castor day off, but the day before I did some work in San Diego, so I've been
around.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
All right.
Nice and fair enough.
All right.
Let me see what's going on.
Saturday, we have our broadcast, the Neil Savagre Fork report show.
And it's going to be broadcast at my house.
There were some very generous people who donated to a Katarina's club.
So they are joining us and we're doing basically, we auctioned off this broadcast.
So never been, never been done before.
The barbecue at my house and boy, everybody's going balls to the wall on this.
I mean, we've got Anaheim White House.
We've got wild forks that are going to be there with the food.
We've got a chef there.
We're going to be willing like crazy.
Well, no toes going to be out there.
I mean, just in, yeah, and your wife Lindsey has gone nuts with all kinds of great stuff.
I want to tip any information on case reporting.
And suggested that we put the menu up on Instagram, you know, without the home address,
because the last thing I want to do is have anybody show up just to let you know, even
the people who have donated the money and the barbecue, they are guests of honor, they
will be cavity searched as they walk in the door.
So also that invite, I don't know if it's an invite, but it has him over a barbecue.
Yeah, I think that's, I mean, it's Neil's graphic.
That's my old.
Yeah.
That's my old.
I did that when we roasted Bill for one of his anniversaries.
Oh, that's very funny.
Yeah.
That's what I think.
So we're going to put that up on Instagram.
And so you really want to, yeah, please tune in on Saturday on Neil so because it's a
different.
It's going to be fun.
And all I think the entire morning crew will be there will, did I invite you?
You did.
Thank you.
Yeah, that's unfortunate.
Okay.
And the only person not showing up is Kono.
Wait a go Kono.
Yeah.
Wait a go Kono.
Some of us have other jobs.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Okay.
All right.
I just want to say, I thought you'd normally free after St.
Katty's day.
All right.
Let's wait.
Why don't we just start the news at this point fair enough.
It's time for handle on the news.
So with Amy, Neil and me lead story.
Well, down goes another top Iranian official.
The Iran minister of intelligence, East smile, Katib is now completely dead in an Israeli
attack.
I can tell you, it's not, you do not want to be a senior member of this regime because
you're not going to last very long.
And so there was another one and the attacks are continuing like crazy.
I think the United States, primarily that's the attacks remain in the United States.
And maybe even Israel underestimated Iran's response.
How long it's going to last the kind of retaliation that they were, they've been able to
produce.
All right.
So it's, and then there's all kinds of politics involved, Donald Trump, President Trump
asking for European allies to help keep the straight of our moves open.
All of them universally telling him to go to pound, co pound sand.
And of course, what a fight we have with that situation.
But we'll be talking more about that coming up in the meantime, let's continue.
All in Trump circle are all in on Iran yesterday, the intelligence communities, top counter-terrorism
official resigned because of the war on Iran, Joe Kent said, I cannot in good conscience
support the ongoing war in Iran and said Iran did not pose an imminent threat to our nation.
And it's clear we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American
lobby.
Yeah.
First of all, he's in a vowed anti-Semite.
He has posted Nazi tropes like crazy.
That's for starters.
And the guy is a conspiracy theorist at the first water.
And of course, as he resigned, this is the top intelligence counter-terrorism guy in
the country.
And after he resigns, Trump says, he's a nice guy, but I knew he was weak.
I know he was weak.
Of course, of course, he had to say that.
I'm surprised he didn't say more.
I was surprised.
He said, well, he was a nice guy.
Yeah.
And then on top of that, and this is where, you know, I don't care what you say, whether
you like him, don't like him, pull up politics or not, we're hearing a lot of Iran was
not an imminent threat to the United States.
Therefore, the attack should not have happened.
When does it become an imminent threat to where an attack is justified?
Is it, is it happened when Iran has the bomb?
That's when it becomes an imminent threat.
So Steve Wyckoff was saying they were literally weeks away from having a plutonium to make
like 10 bombs.
But even, but I don't care.
Even if they're six months away, even if there's years away, again, do you wait while
they're building, while they're constructing all those ballistic missiles and shoring
up not this is not off the fences that they're building up.
We're not talking about missiles and drones for defensive purposes.
This is to attack.
So we're going to wait until it's an imminent threat.
Sure.
Why not?
Chavez?
No.
What is described as profoundly shocking.
There are some allegations against Cesar Chavez, a lot of, you know, a lot of the celebrations
that would be coming up for Caesar Chavez Day are being canceled and not just here in
Los Angeles, but all over the place in Antonio, you know, Texas, you've got Houston, Tucson,
Corpus Christi, just all these events that would normally be honoring Chavez are being canceled
right now with allegations.
So we don't know a whole lot about there are allegations, family issues in there, but
also allegations of following abuse of young women or minors.
Yeah, I'm going to be doing this story at seven o'clock because this is one interesting
story.
And a couple of spins I want to put on it and a little bit of history and some analogies
I want to make.
This is a pretty important story and it's just fascinating, especially since these are
Chavez was a California resident and all happened here actually in the central valley with the
grape strike and he did some incredible things and also he did some incredible things.
So we'll talk about that coming up.
Mama bear has been put down.
The city of Manrovia says a female bear that took a swipe at a woman who was out walking
her dog over the weekend had to be euthanized.
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife determined that the same bear had been involved
in another incident last June where another resident of Manrovia, Manrovia was swiped
at by the bear and was injured.
They said that that caused them sufficient justification to euthanize the bear and
the bear had two cubs and the cubs have been relocated to a facility where they will
eventually be reintroduced into the wild.
Sad.
It sucks.
Okay.
How long do cubs stay with their mom?
I think it's a couple of years, but I'm not, I'm not sure that's too bad already.
So Supreme Court Justice John Roberts says hang on a second, I'm, I'm hearing some
static.
Are you hearing static?
Oh no.
Where's that just me?
Is that me?
Yeah.
It's you.
Why?
Okay.
So Cesar Chavez and now me.
Yeah.
No, no, no, no.
You're very funny.
It's static coming in.
It's Frank.
I don't even know why I'm interrupting because when a static interrupts, your segment of
the show is far better, but is, all right, let's just keep on going because it's a very
disconcerting.
I just want to point that out so people really pay attention to it.
Moving on.
Neil.
Well, that's better.
Okay.
All right.
So you've got John Roberts saying stop with the hostility, Mr. President.
We've got Trump saying that the completely inept and embarrassing court was not what
the Supreme Court of the United States was set up to be by our wonderful founders.
And then Roberts is saying, you know what?
You've got all these negative remarks.
They got to stop.
I like it.
I like it.
I like it.
If you, if Trump is right, if you read the original Federalist papers, the founding fathers
wrote specifically writing that, you know what?
We intend on the court upholding everything that President Trump says and does.
And that is our intent.
Yeah.
So if the court rules against them, it's not just, I disagree with the court, but of
course, this court interprets the law of the land.
It's this completely inept and embarrassing court.
I mean, that's, well, what if they agree with you?
Are they still inept?
No, no, no, if they agree with you, it's, they are a court that we should admire and
respect.
Yeah.
That's forever.
Yeah.
Exactly.
Did you hear that?
An asteroid weighing about seven tons going 45,000 miles per hour zoomed over several
states on Tuesday morning late, lighting up the sky and causing a loud boom that some
residents thought was an explosion.
The bright fireball could be seen moments before 9 a.m. Eastern time.
NASA says the sound happened because the asteroid fragmented, resulting in a pressure
wave that reached the ground like a sonic boom.
Yeah, where people were reporting that the ground, I mean, it shook like a bomb had exploded
next door.
Did you see the video of this thing?
No.
It is one.
You want to take a look at that.
You can YouTube it.
I'm sure it is just spectacular as it breaks up.
And I'm assuming parts of it were, they're going to find parts and pieces of it because
that's a, you know, it's, that's a lot of asteroid.
That's one big ass.
Yeah.
It's a right.
Okay.
So after the wild failures that took place and Edison was looked at, Edison International
was looked at for the concerns, some of their senior executives had cash bonuses cut.
And they cited the wildfires, of course.
But now looking and doing an investigation LA Times have found that Edison International
boosted the pay of its top executive last year.
But despite the responsibility for the safety of the company's power lines and all that,
the devastation that took place in the eaten fires, I was kind of stunned at this because
I was in the impression that so Cal Edison was a quasi nonprofit or a municipality in terms
of it's, it's, it's makeup obviously not a man.
Yeah.
Obviously not 16 and a half million dollars in compensation for the CEO.
Yeah.
20% from 2024, by the way, crazy.
And then you have the president of, right, Pedro Pizarro chief executive, the parent company
of so Cal Edison and then Steve Powell, who is president of so Cal Edison, he got a raise
of more than 65% and he only gets six and a half million dollars last year.
Boy, that's a good job.
Only.
Yeah.
It looks like Bondy's going to get grilled.
The attorney general has been subpoenaed to answer questions from Congress about the
Justice Department's sex trafficking investigation into Jeffrey Epstein and how the agency held and
handled millions of files related to him.
Bondy was ordered to appear for deposition April 14th by the committee on oversight and
government reform after a vote was held earlier this month with that was supported by five
Republicans as well.
Yeah.
Be prepared for lots of fireworks.
It used to be where everybody was, if not cowed, very respectful of congressional hearings
front of senators and front of Congress people and, you know, they, they, they bowed a lot
and treated them with a great respect.
Pam Bondy, the last time she was in front of, I think it was a congressional hearing
just a few weeks ago, just laid into the committee when they asked questions.
You shouldn't be asking me that.
You have no business asking me that.
You should be talking about how great the economy is under our great president.
This is the attorney general.
What the hell does the attorney general know anything about the economy?
So you're going to see some real fireworks going on.
I love what I love when you do Trump cabinet voice.
It's the same for all of them.
I don't do.
Yeah.
That's all the people that work for Trump.
The voices to say, how dare you talk to me that what I work for Trump.
No, that wasn't an impression.
That is just by making you know, I'm Trump's friend.
Oh, anyway, Pam Bondy, she is among the most contentious cabinet members I have ever
seen in front of in front of Congress and these hearings.
To an extent, it's, you know, I'm sort of kind of marginally on her side because it
used to be that the committee members would scream and rail into witnesses.
And now the witnesses, particularly Pam Bondy, aren't taking it.
They're throwing it right back.
I like it because it's damn entertaining.
His cabinet does or anybody who works for him does kind of respond like how dare you
ask me.
Yes.
All right, Trump administration.
We originally thought he was going to pull all the monies out of California, but it looks
like he's putting some monies into California, $540 million to be exact for a California
water project.
The largest share, $235 million is going to be used to rehabilitate the Delta Mendoza
canal.
Is that right?
That carries water to farmlands and he's, that's been a big deal for him.
An additional $200 million will help continue repairs for the friant current canal.
That's another big conduit of water to the valley.
Yeah, it's all because of the aquifer groundwater is being pumped out.
I mean, we're going to have a sinkhole in the middle of California that's going to go
hundreds of miles across.
I mean, it's pretty crazy.
Here's my question.
Amy, you may know it is the amount of money that's being spent.
How much was asked for and how much was cut overall because the story doesn't tell us
because this could be virtually all the money asked for or it could be a fraction of what
was asked for in normally California would get.
I do not have that information on hand.
Yeah, I didn't either.
So I went to use to embarrass you.
Thank you.
Oh, you're welcome.
By the way, I knew you didn't know.
That's why I asked.
All right.
Rally today could be a prelude to a strike leaders of the LA teachers union expected on
Wednesday.
That's today to announce a date of a strike that if carried out would interrupt the education
of 390,000 students, there's a massive rally planned for later this afternoon in Gloria
Melina Grand Park across from city hall downtown.
Once a strike data set, it doesn't mean that a walk out is inevitable, but they say they
would threaten to strike if they don't get a deal.
They want like 70% pay raises.
Yeah, over the next two years.
Also raising pay for what early career teachers, $80,000 and the top rate is $133,000, $34,000
seems like teachers can make a pretty good buck.
They work what?
Nine months a year and three months are off.
Now it could be very brutal to be a teacher.
I mean, depends on what subject.
English teachers is insane because you're grading papers, you're going crazy.
Shop teachers, that's easy to say, or wood shop teacher, or all you have to do is count
the fingers on your hands and you never reach 10.
Okay.
Moving on.
That was a wood shop teacher joke.
No.
I heard it.
I understood.
I had a wood shop teacher with missing fingers.
I had a, I had a principle with three missing fingers.
Oh, came up through the ranks as a shop teacher.
They went, when you got in a fight, they didn't stop it.
They moved you into the auditorium, put gloves on and you had to finish.
I went to a very strange school.
That seems very strange.
Alrighty.
So, you're going to look back on the airports and go, man, I missed those really long lines
because it looks like there's at least a possibility because of the partial federal shutdown.
The TSA officer is being unpaid.
Some of them calling out that they might shut, start shutting down airports, probably
the smaller ones.
First, I would imagine, but if they don't get some funding, they may be closing some
area.
Yeah.
It's not get some, well, yeah, allow TSA workers agents to get paid and a lot of them
are quitting.
I'm saying, we need work.
We can't, you know, we still have to pay the landlord, you know, go, go to the grocery
stores.
They still want money.
What do you think they make?
Not very much.
Just like an hourly rate.
Yeah.
I would guess in the range of $25, $27 an hour relative to government employees.
I don't know the answer and 25 or $27 an hour, very difficult to live on in here in Southern
California, right?
Conno.
Make less than that.
Yeah.
Very, very impressive.
Welcome, diehard.
Okay.
You weren't the only one not watching the 98th Oscars average, 17.9 million viewers.
That's nine percent down from last year's telecast ratings for the Oscars cratered to
an all time low of 10 and a half million in 2021.
It had been rebounding after that, but on its way back down, are you surprised?
You watched it, right Amy?
I did.
Are you surprised that their politics were not a big deal this year.
I was fully expecting Trump issues to be exploding and because, you know, Hollywood's
liberal, I was I surprised.
I was not surprised.
I thought that maybe they were told to tone it down.
Oh, I'm sure, but that's not really Conan O'Brien's M.O., but I think you're talking about
the presenters and the presenters, I'm talking about, yeah, I'm talking about the award
winners who they just a time element.
That's it.
That's all.
Right.
I hate the Jews, free Palestine type stuff.
Yeah.
That was just how they are.
Oh, damn.
Okay.
It's just a solid one right there.
Yeah.
I think he was the only one who did a free Palestine thing.
And then Jimmy Kimmel, of course, made a couple of swipes, but on the way out, it was
a shot at by a couple of Israelis.
No, probably not.
Okay.
We got a couple more stories.
So we've been hearing about people getting tied up and twisted into the Epstein private
island interest in case now a pastor in Missouri was suspended last week.
Effort was discovered.
Not only did she had been to the island, but she worked for and managed the private island
of the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein for nearly a year and the timeline is strange
because she worked there from August, 2018 to May, 2019.
Epstein was arrested just two months later July, 19 for sex trafficking crimes.
And she said she never saw anything, but she, she knew something because she knew he
was a sex offender when she went and worked.
Yeah.
That alone, I think, would be a little problematic.
And if you believe her, which I do, that she never saw Epstein commit abuse because
I think he did it publicly.
I think he did it reasonably privately.
The fact that she knew he was a set register sex offender and still took the job.
That's problematic.
And by the way, her suspension is temporary.
It's only 90 days.
Did she become, did she become a pastor after she worked for Epstein?
I don't know.
I don't know.
I don't know that timeline, but it is interesting.
Hmm.
All right.
We're done, guys.
Well, go ahead.
Oh, I just thought this was a good one, making good on an old promise.
Uh, yeah.
And Indians have been screwed traditionally and now the government is going to give native
Americans.
Yeah.
California is unveiled a plan to bring at least seven and a half million acres of land
in coastal waters under the care of an indigenous tribes tribes.
This is why it's interesting.
Seven percent of the state's land, um, it was promised to them by the federal government.
They said, we'll hold this for reservations and indigenous tribes after California joined
the union in 1850 was part of the deal.
And then Congress rejected the treaties in a secret meeting after pressure from the state
of California and didn't bother to tell the tribes.
Yeah.
Do you know how many treaties, uh, have actually been upheld by the US government with
Native American tribes?
Do you know the number?
Is it zero?
Is it really?
Wow.
Yep.
It's just crazy how this government treated Native Americans, which is why whenever they
want a license for bingo or gambling, I'm always in favor of it because it was just crazy
stuff.
All right.
We're done now.
Coming up, that's Cesar Chavez story.
That is really interesting.
And I'm going to make an analogy to something that happened in the UK that I was looking
at a little bit of history.
We'll be back with that KFI AM 640.
