The title of this mini podcast is, Heading for Home. I was a big baseball fan when I was a kid. One of my favorite phrases on the broadcast was, He's rounding third and heading for home. I don't know exactly why, but that line always touched something in me. It seems home is one of those comfort words, at least it is for me, and I suspect it might be for you too. But a lot of us wander away from home, chasing something bigger or something better. And the home I'm talking about isn't a house or an address. It's that internal place of peace, where everything feels taken care of. There's an old Japanese proverb that says, if you get on the wrong train, get off at the next station. The modern day version of it goes like this. The longer you stay on the wrong train, the more expensive it is to get back home. Either way, the message is the same. Your travel plans are flawed.
You're trying to get to the horizon, and the horizon is always elusive. The closer it seems, the farther it gets away. The grass is always greener. It's out there somewhere. Those ideas keep us chasing something that never quite arrives. Like the old song says, you're looking for love in all the wrong places. You're searching for something you already have. You just got to get off the train and find your way back home. If the constant search is leaving you feeling empty, round third, and head for home. And if you're tired of the chase, come to the place where you don't have to keep pace. Home. Take a little time to reflect on that inner peace, and bathe yourself in it from time to time. Do that, and you won't continue to ride that ridiculous train to nowhere. We'll just enjoy home, where everything is totally sublime. All the best, John.
