All right, all right fish tank live Wednesday April of 15th. I am not Seth love it I am Michael Liva driving the ship tonight because Seth can't be here And I just want to remind Seth there was once a man named Wally Pip He took one day off. He never got his job back. We'll see how this goes after tonight You see how it goes after tonight. You might get Wally Pip, I don't know But Jed Van Horn is also with Seth as well, so he will be unable to join But we got a star-studded crew, OJ McDuffee, Chris Perkins, the legendary Savak Talking to you about all the happenings in the world that often says we inch closer to the NFL draft. OJ How you doing? I'm good. I'm good. Mike man. Appreciate you you coming in man You know you hanging the background a lot of times too for the show, man But it's good to have you in the forefront, bro And I know Seth and Chad are doing some big things tonight. They're doing it the L tabs out Florida on the on behalf of the Jason Taylor Foundation's judge and some young poets and and Perk had an opportunity to judge these pose

He talked about them last week and tonight is the singles final So Perk we had a tough deal when it came to Judson L tab But Chad's got all the finalists that are going to be there's 11 finalists that are obviously outstanding poets So man, oh man, he's got a lot tough for job than we did because you know all these kids are great But some of you know were a little different. No, just like an NFL, you know some guy A lot of guys can play but some guys are like up here when it comes to their level of of being able to play the game, man So yeah, so I don't you know Seth's got the easier job tonight and what Chad has because not only doesn't he have to judge that they're going to introduce him And you know so his name will be broadcast for all these people. So if he messes it up They'll know the hell he is too, man. So yeah And juice, you know, I know there's some transcendent poets there tonight. I'm telling y'all I was like I was moved last week They're gonna a couple of times some tears came to my eyes my eyes Well, these kids are thoughtful. They're expressive. They're good. They can rhyme. I mean, it's a great event

So I know Chad and seven living it up tonight. Yeah, Chad was nervous the day by the way, y'all he was he's like Oh, yeah, give me some advice, you know, what should I do? I said man, just listen to the poem. Just listen to the poem Listen to the poem and I said, you know Use the you know the sacrificial poet the one they bring out first use your massive barometer go from there But all of you so good, man. It's all them so good. So yeah, so that that was our little plug, man You know behalf of blue apple poetry, you know, Mario Hardwick and Seth Levin and Jason Taylor foundation man doing what they do in the community all the time and big time stuff Yeah, absolutely great stuff there and that's why he's not with us here tonight So we will try to hold the fort down all joking aside Let's start with this Jenna herself and spoke with the media today is pre draft press conference You know I'll set it up this white perk and then you were there and I think you might have got in the first question if I remember Yeah, look we've got the first question How about that Mike don't walk over that Mike because you know, I mean last week was the last week perk where you know

Have had the you know was out of order and y'all say yo, yo, Mary gets the first how do you get the freaking first question perk That's the student first and you just jump in baby. You just jump in we look we have a limited time With with the coach and with the gym. I'm about being polite, but but bump all the Don't stop I'm good Stand would be in your ass. Go ahead. That's it. Yeah, yeah, bump all the dumb shit. Let's let's yeah, we ask questions Yeah Chef Hathley saw had a mantra Alex pose is like hey, you're an exposed guy But I was the very first everyone got all those shapes. It was crazy, but He spoke to the press again today John Eric Sullivan pre draft I want to save some of my thoughts because I have it and I tried to tell y'all at the end of the show about some of the things He said and about what he's kind of walking into but He's sort of standing by as he's not gonna trade a Chan and sort of his Philosophy of this draft perk. What did you take away from some of the things he said today?

I You know the big thing with a chance to me was I thought he hardened his stance before it was you know I'm not looking to trade a Chan, but I'm always gonna pick up the phone today It was like a chance not available like he is not available So don't even call with these deals You know the the other takeaway from it was you know, he is a he's kind of a uptight draft guy This is his first draft, but somebody asked him about Taking phone calls right now about moving up and moving down and he was like look I don't like playing on the phone the week before the draft Yeah, you know you want to call me on draft night. That's cool But we're not gonna have all these conversations about hypotheticals So I thought that was good about just being being down to business. I like that That he said that and then him saying the best player available approach You know the only time I think that that would be a factor would be of Monroe Freelin the big left tackle from Georgia

Was there at 11 and maybe Maui Noah was gone and Rubin bang was gone and more man Sir Delaim was gone Would you take another left tackle knowing that you have a left tackle or would you go position of need and go Corner back or something like that But I like what Sully had to say today. I like being around Sully and half I think it's it's it's you just feel like the the foundation is being laid in Concrete and not in sand. This is more firm. It's more believable. It's more tangible and that continued today I thought yeah, Perk you it feels like it's more business man. Yeah, this is what they strictly about business man And I like that about them You know to give you guys as many answers they can give you what I'm beating around the bush You seem like man, and I think you obviously guys, you know your question you're all your questions day I listen to the press conference man. We're spot on man and all really really good stuff But I think that they're really give you More information and let's be asked and what we've heard from from in the past man

And I like that about them as well, and I also heard I heard a little bit There's a little bit of tackle talk that I I heard in there Perk that I don't know if it kind of like resonate with you Like he kind of hinted at something towards like tackle, you know, and I know that you know We're we're solid with Patrick Paul, and I know that you know Austin Jackson redo what he did But I know we had trouble keeping him on the field, but I mean, I think that you know protecting the quarterback Especially at the tackle position. I think where it's exact words. Yeah, where it's like something I've got to think about you know consider now with what all right handed quarterbacks how hell we they're blindside guys now You know compared to last year where you know the right tackle is blindside guy, but he kind of hit it at tackle a little bit Didn't he to me? Yeah It's at one point he said it starts with quarterback and protecting the quarterback and so yeah, that's you know You know and Mike I don't know what you feel about best player available and and you know dolphins needs I know we're gonna talk about that later, but I Did like to hear him talk about best player available?

I think that I think that that's one of those overused phrases in the draft because I think you do draft by need a lot But this is a year where you really could go BTA and not be wrong at an almost any position Yeah, cuz if you look at the raster Miami right now outside of running back Yeah, I mean they got needs everywhere. Let's be honest. I mean they have needs on the offensive line secondary edge russia tight-end wide receiver. I mean they can't go wrong and I think when he think about offensive tackle I mean if we're gonna be honest for a second is Austin Jackson. Will he be here past this year? Probably not so if you can get someone for one year can play Right guard and then you know next year he's your right tackle kind of what they did with Jeremy Tunsell The other two can play in one year left guard then they moved on from Brandon Albert. He's your left tackle this year If you can get a Spencer Fano who I think that might be a guy they fall in love with he's he's a type of guy like a

Packers guy. I think they might actually like someone like him who can play right guard or right tackle You'll play him at right guard and then after this year the long-term plan has moved about to right tackle I could see them doing that. I think that's why they're talking offensive lineman so much because they need someone now this year Obviously, but long-term Right tackle is probably gonna be something they need to address cuz Patrick Pauling going nowhere right now Monroe Freelings the interesting one. I think I can't call it up because looks like pff is down I don't know if he if he played any right tackle there. I don't think he did I think he was left tackle So I don't know if he fits but you know If you're if you're going to do that BPA you got to stick true to it though So I don't need you with him if they might and a certain love you might just say not really a fit or he's so good We will coach him up to play right tackle because he's our long-term answer there. I don't know, but yeah, I think They can't go wrong and pick 11 just I

Mean they can't afford it Mike They can't afford it Mike. You're gonna get a really good player fall in your lap And it'd be oh, I don't want to see impossible to screw because we've seen people screw it up It'd be kind of tough this year to screw it up because we have needs literally everywhere Yeah, yeah, and you know and moving forward I mean, this is the most important draft for their lives right now, you know new guys in At GM and at head coach this and then maybe next year becomes the most important draft that their lives again You know, you just never know but this one right here with all these picks and all these options to make moves It's just really really important man and we're not we all know this we're not one player away from being Of a really good team right now So yeah, and they they've heart on being a team that builds through the draft builds and drafts and develops That's that's their motto and I like that a lot. I really do man So there's a thing though like he talked about present players that can play, you know that are Multi-faceted basically whether you're saying you know guards that can play centers that can play guard But if I'm thinking of tackle I know you used to have me right hand the dirt now you have to you left hand a dirt or vice versa

I'm looking at tackles like I you should be able to play both if in my opinion and I know it's not that easy But if you have enough time and enough you know enough knowledge and enough coaching I think if you can play tackle Which is a hard position because a lot of times out there you're on your one-on-one I think you you get a left guy and make him a right guy and figure it out And then if you have to you know moving in to do it whatever you have to do if you have to move inside do whatever you have to do But if you got a badass tackle out there It's hard to find two badass tackles And we've seen that in a lot of teams that we play against we think all right, you know We've got our guys going against this this tackles their third string or second string or not a very good Tackle you got two great tackles that can handle one-on-ones and you can go three on two on the inside with garden and Guards and center that's a great situation out there for an offensive line So if you can find yourself a badass tackle. I don't care if you play left right if you play in the backfield as it's as a tackle Whatever it was man put that mug in the lineup and let's go for it, man

Yeah, and you know what's you know what's interesting juice is I think that's more common with your veteran tackles being the swing tackle Larry Bournem and Kindle Lamb like you know Patrick Paul They did not want to move Patrick Paul to write tackle. They wanted him to stay at left tackle So you bring up an interesting phenomenon, but I think Austin Jackson played both didn't he? I think he started a left tackles. I believe so. Yeah as youngsters, but it it seems like kind of You know that they they've Maybe they steered away from that Recently after I can burg and Austin Jackson, but that's the old administration also, you know But I just brought up on role-freeing because you're right Mike to my knowledge He never played guard. He never played right tackle. He's a left tackle Yeah, if he is the next available player on your chart the BPA I wouldn't take I would take a corner A.B. on tarot from Clemson or or whoever Jamal McCoy I would fill a need I really would and and so it would you know

The number 11 pick is gonna tell us a lot about the the new administration and what they think Number 30 maybe they traded. I would like to see them keep it, but number 11 There's no way I move up or down and I take an impactful player I'm not taking a guard my man from Penn State. I'm not taking him They got a young yeah, I Take it I would take yeah, man sort of lane if look if Carnail take the wide receiver from Ohio state is there I think about him a kind lemon probably not he's a slot Jordan Tyson from Arizona state lot injuries there a lot of hamstring injuries right you're exactly right Mike So I mocked him to the dolphins after the waddle trade and my mock after the waddle trade But there's a lot of possum just don't pick the wrong guy right exactly human might be the wrong guy Jordan Tyson might be the wrong guy Don't pick the wrong guy. I think there's a lot of guys that you could you know

I even if he's not a pro-bowl talent He could be a good solid player at whatever position Yeah, just don't pick the injury guy or whatever Yeah, I'm not in perk and Mike in it's a rock. I'm not picking any guard in 11 anyways I'm not I'm not doing that. I promise you I'd rather go get some grown-ass man somewhere that's played in the league at least It's you know filled into his body, you know that knows it came a little bit I'm not you know look look. I mean Jonah survived. I you know I hope he's gonna be a lot better this year, but it's hard to get a young guy to come in and play guard That's what the really grown-ass men play, you know, that's why my ass. I play running back all my life So I got the Penn State and I see you know what I'm not grown enough in here. Let me take my ass outside That's it. Stay away from all these big dudes, you know, and so yeah, I'm with you man And I think what what you know, what Sully was saying to do today, too was as well as you know at 11 Somebody you got to have an impactful player at that position Somebody's gonna be a difference maker guard is not gonna be a difference maker

You know for your team unless it's the other way around it's gonna be a bad difference He's gonna make by giving up sack by giving up pressures by not being able to you know You know affect the run for us positively. So I'm with you man. I mean, I know you talked shit about Penn State But it's okay though, man You got chop props in a couple years ago. Come on, man. Can't be that bad. I know I know it's chop. I need chop to come through for me, man It's been tough my Penn State boy here. I need chop to come through for me to save face for that, you know that that blue and white You know me, but that's a whole different story, Mack. I don't know why you brought that up today Hey, no, I want 11 receivers and then five of them with the Penn State. That's what I want His top 20 picks for all-wide receivers, you know Yeah, I think it's I really I really do feel like you know I think another thing that I really like that Sully said today Perk is that they're more apt to move down

Then the move up in the draft they need all 11 picks and if they can accumulate more It would do so. What do you think about that comment? I like that. I think that was in the context of when he said Be careful about trying to hit home run and take that double off the wall, you know Yeah, I think that that's that's kind of you know don't get greedy, you know, and I think that's kind of What he's thinking everything that Sully says sounds right and you know, it's he again He talks about draft and develop and he talks about, you know, making making these picks count He's not about the the social media likes and and the glam and the high profile stuff He's about to hand him the dirt playing actual football and that's what he talks and I think it's gonna come through on his draft Philosophy everything that he talks about I will say this now To kind of change subjects. I I did ask Sully about Troy Ackman because I

Love that Troy Ackman conversation. We heard that conversation. How can that love it? Yeah, yeah So he was I you know and I because Troy has been on podcast and he has said that he's gonna be in the facility He didn't say he was gonna be in the draft room And I was wondering if Ackman was gonna be consulted on picks and Sully said no He won't be consulted on picks, but he will be in the facility But you know, it just seems to me that Ackman's fingerprints as he said are on this rebuild So I was I was wondering you know how what his role might be in the draft And I thought I was interesting that Sully made it a point to say I've taken some advice from from him As well as Dan merino and we consulted Dan and quarterbacks and receivers and I like talking to Dan and Dan Dan Dan Dan Dan and then then he was like, but Troy has also been instrumental But he was very careful to mention Dan in there and I thought that was interesting

Everyone happy Yeah, right you know it man he goes yeah, he goes right there with Troy big bronze bus and can go Yeah, you know, you got to make so you don't miss over Dan man Don't get the golden jacket's upset. They carry some weight with them. I was here to think about Troy too Which I learned yesterday or two days ago and I didn't know this and I put out a tweet Which of course got taken out of context, but whatever This is his final year with ESPN his contracts up after this year now He makes a lot of money with ESPN. He didn't make 25 million like someone said, but he makes a lot Of course if they pay him the same he ain't going nowhere. He'll stay with ESPN duh, but ESPN just took over the NFL network They got a lot of new workers under that big umbrella and if ESPN I'm probably gonna have to pay more to keep money and I football and pay more for these right steals if they lowball Troy I'm not saying Troy's gonna work with all the full time and just be the guy there But he might say if you're not gonna pay me what I'm worth I'm gonna keep this job because don't lowball him

Is my point so well that's gonna be interesting on this place out because ESPN now have all those people from the NFL network under their umbrella And Troy's contracts up after this year, which they call this Super Bowl and ESPN actually If they try to lowball him, I could see you try going I don't need this and maybe Not a full-time rolleroff is maybe even more involved than he is now as you said last week perk gaining influence gaining power He might really like this job and say if ESPN is gonna lowball. I mean, I don't need to do this. I just don't Mike I just don't see I don't see ESPN lowball Yeah, who else with the he's a he's a top dog man. I know he makes a lot of money. He is a top dog dog Man, I mean, I know they got some guys underneath them, but Troy is like when you listen to him when you listen to Troy talk On TV man. He's the best. He's the best He's way better than normal. Yeah, Ramos. Really good. Yeah. Let's not let's not come on Mike

He's better than those two Troy is the best because here's the thing Troy don't give no laughs He'll say was a first on his mind Pittsburgh game last year where he's like what the hell they doing? Yeah, yeah, I love that man. I was spot on because we were all thinking the same damn thing Yeah, and so yeah, I like that, but you know, I I really do enjoy the fact that you know, they've welcomed Troy They've welcomed Troy into the building. They've been a lot of there's been head coach Don't welcome former players in there at all as coaches as analysts. I mean as a you know consultants as anything Really for some reason there's like, you know, anybody nobody. I'm trust me this Nobody wants to be a hit coach That pretty much played the game that you know, that's that's got that type of stature. They don't want that They don't want that they want to be a part of an organization Dan loves being a part of the organization, but all the damn headaches man. Who wants all those headaches? You know, so I work Troy loves that damn loads where he's at and Troy wants to be a bigger part like Perk is talked about

It's seemed like it's coming in fruition. I love that part of two man any part Troy Acme wants to be a part of this organization because what I read to is that the Dallas Cowboys didn't want to offer him any of this Yeah, you know amazing to me, you know, you think Troy wouldn't want to go there first You know, you think he wouldn't want to be a part of what we're doing with him in Dallas first But you know, which is it's great. And that's probably you know an ego issue for Jerry Jerry Jones like nah, this is my me and Stephen this we running the show over here We don't need a you know, the our greatest quarterback ever other than Roger Stahlback was one of my favorite quarterbacks growing up We don't need any of this stuff, you know, and I like Danny white too, man I like even more as a punner than a quarterback, but that's a little bit of story You could tell the Cowboys fan a little bit growing up right? That's the Billy Joe to free Tony Dorsett

Billy face baby come on now. Come on stop playing with me I'm with you man. So any I do love the Troy aspect of what's going on with this team All that helps man as long as Eagles don't get in the way all that helps now Perky also said Troy will be in the room, but he won't have any impact on the draft selection correct Right, he did say that he did say that and and I asked Sully who has final say on the draft picks and he said he did You hear all the stuff about well, you know Steven Steven the Steve Ross one at Lamar Jackson and blah blah blah Who has final say on the draft pick let's let's know let's get this up front before the draft starts because there could be situations and look Steve Ross is the owner and so if he loves final say He gets final say right he writes the checks, but I do like that Steve Ross Let's the football people make the football decisions and and and I've always liked that about Steve Ross

I like that they've kind of changed their way of doing things with Troy Aitman and gone out of the building right with Troy Aitman and Daniel Ross is son-in-law who is in his relevant company a CEO in the relevant company They kind of gone outside the building and what I like is they understood that what they were doing was not working So let's do something different and and so I think that's what Troy Aitman and and Silman represent is doing something different and so I do like that from from the golf and standpoint and but as far as you know Troy being in the draft room and being in the facility that's good, but you know for Sully to say the buck stops with me I think that's good and I think that's another example of Being accountable which Hathley has talked about and Sully has talked about with the players all throughout the organization It's accountability. You don't hear a whole lot of well Wishy washy stuff. It's firm answers and I'd like that about this new regime

Now Mike and and Chris and and Savak you think it's weird that half has no input on the draft pick I think he's got input. He's talking to have the final say right right and the GM should have the final say But you know, everybody's supposed to be in unison in coordination with each other like I mean But somebody's still in charge though I know it's it's still Sully final the final call right and I like he said that he wasn't going to force any player on any coach So right I guess that means the head coach as well, right? Right. That's it. That's it. And and that's kind of that's kind of the opposite Chris Greer approach where Chris Greer was going to Give the head coach whoever he wanted. Yeah, and and so this was this I think that this was kind of Sully's way of saying it is a collaborative Effect right that I'm not just going to force somebody on a coach that and I think he said there are times where you know He might insist he might say that, you know, this is the guy, but um I thought that that was that kind of hinted at collaboration there

Another thing that I thought was was important was when they were talking about character and and Sully was saying that you know I want to talk to four or five different guys at the same school You know the cafeteria worker the medical people the assistant coach because look We know about Jonathan Martin and we know about Deon Jordan and and so you've got to do kind of that medical We know about the fountain parker if you want to go physical stuff, right? I can't miss it. You know I can't miss it. Yeah, right, right? So so I you know again You've got to put this stuff into practice, but I like hearing this kind of stuff again It makes it gives me more assurance or reassurance that these guys are about business It's not this is not entertainment. Let's get on TV. Let's get so for media likes This is about draft and develop and they're grown men and they're serious about their craft Yeah, I also like when he said two certain names. He will turn name upside down Yeah, someone asked him you maybe I'm not sure who asked him have you ever picked someone whose name was upside down

He was like oh, yeah Point is just value Yeah That's all great points man. I think his number one criteria was can they play ball right? No, and that's what we always talk about, you know, there's a bunch of different things and you know Let me look take take for example myself You know, I had a this only conduct at Penn State and Stu Weinstein who I love the best my guy right now It's one of my best friends like down here and he said he had to investigate that and see what that was all about And he did this investigation and really was me trying to get all the rest of the guys out of there You know, but of course some dumbass out there's like oh, Jay, we gotta get out of here like now they know it's me Bro, you know what I mean like I don't mean don't be snitching on man. I'm trying to get everybody else up out of here You know, but that's the due diligence that you're talking about perk with all the different things You know, you got to do the background checks. You got to talk to the maintenance you I want to know how people handle everybody in the building man, you know me because my hope for life

Throughout my life throughout my career was the people that are in the building don't work for me They work with me they work with us. They're part of the team Everybody's doing their job to make a successful in that building and we need to have a bunch of people in that building That feel the same way because sometimes athletes a little jerky jerks. We know this man They think that they're better than everybody else man. They're no better than everybody else Especially the ones that like that that working that building there They're way before they get there and they're after they leave man, you know So I think that that character part that character issue means a lot, man I'm still cool with everybody that ever worked with the dolphins, you know I can go to equipment room and Joey and Charlie and sweet. They're so cool with me now that I just like Yo, I need can I get a hat can I get a football can I get a t-shirt and Sure as hell might go to front desk, you know what I mean? And and and Valerie's got it for me who I know from the front desk when I was going there, you know You know big James they they they they they they look out for us man because of the way our relationship has been all those years

I like guys like that that coming there and they treat everybody as equals and they can go out there and play ball Metal character when that matches your also your ability to play football Those are the kind of guys you want your building man, and I want and I also like this one of my other criteria Perk and Mike and Savak is Captains where you a captain on your football team If you were elected captain on your football team not either point it not appointed captain So sometimes captains are appointed by coaches if you were elected captain on your football team I want to bunch of those in my locker room as well Yeah, yeah, I agree I agree and and to your to your point juice about character I you know people say how do you treat people who can't do anything for you? You know, that's that's kind of one of the measuring sticks right that that you know How do you treat them? And I think that's one of the things that the dolphins and and Sully you're talking about Another thing that I asked Sully about that I liked his answer was in the pre-draft process you have all these ways

To scout players you have the film you have a combine where the doctors can put their hands on them You have the pro day where you can see him you have the senior bowl where you see actual football What do you value most and he say at the film he said the film the film don't lie the film tells you who that player is And that was another answer from Sully that I that I really like because that was a real Hand in the dirt football guy answer that People can fool you in interviews right doctors can miss stuff when they put their hands on the player You turn on that film and and and that's that that's that was that I liked hearing that from Sully You know perk and you you brought that out of him perk you asked all those you you you laid all that out He's like, man You you covered everything right there you you covered all those all those criteria and he said yeah Absolutely, but it boils down to film you know And also always say this all the time too is the best abilities availability right film might be good But you got to make sure that I can I can have you out there for right 16 17 games every season as well

In this time of year we hear a lot of this too where someone like right after the season You know, he's like a third-round prospect, but he was great at the senior bowl week So now he's up to round what well he had a good week in practice in the senior bowl How about what did he do from August to January when he had games that's cute He did the senior bowl or the shrine bowl or a pro day or the combine like that's okay That's not matters to a certain extent, but it like what did he do over the course of a season Lying up one the games were real and sometimes when I just rolled my eyes when he was great the senior bowl It's like okay, it's important, but isn't I mean that shouldn't outway Kind of what he said and what you're saying. What do you do over the course of the season? What do you do over the course of multiple years at Arizona state Arizona? I whatever you know, what do you know? What you know though, Mike where I differ there in your opinion on some of that is that Yeah, I get you know a lot of times you're playing in some place where you don't have the greatest competition You know everybody knows big 10 is the best football conference and football we get all that you know the last three national championships

That speaks for itself after arguing yeah, but when you go to senior bowl That's different than anything else. I think senior bowl. You're going again Lot of the best of the best you know all week long and I think practice way more important than that game is for a lot of These evaluators and how you go out to compete are you a leader out there? Are you as tough as we thought you were or not, you know You got some guys that are from like Arizona state that didn't get much recognition that are in the senior bowl that are out there trying to knock your head off because you went to Miami you went to any any with the Michigan Ohio State. So I mean, I think the senior bowls one of those ones where you know That's where you get some real good evaluation against some of the best first of the best obviously there are all seniors But same time though you get a chance to see these guys go out there and compete against some really really good town Whereas I went to Japan bowl Really? We practiced 30 minutes a day You know what I mean? It was He's burning with our coach Anyone sightseeing right? We went sightseeing. We got massages. We you know

We went through all the sushi out in front of us. You know what I mean? No cell phones back then you were good It was super simple. We had like a 15-page handwritten playbook. It was super simple You know, so I mean, there was no evaluate talent in Japan compared to what was like Immobile you know that so yeah, I'm sure That's a that's a whole different time a whole different era, which we're gonna talk about here shortly one thing when we were talking about the character stuff It's kind of what happened over the weekend I think with Ruben Bain what came out about him It seemed like all the teams knew about it was kind in the past everyone knew what they knew But uh people like us who maybe weren't in the no one that's like oh look what happened blah blah blah um He's he's probably the one person this draft who probably can't wait till it's over with that story and everyone talking about his arm Lakes short arm this day. He's probably can't wait for this draft to be over just like stop talking about every little What are your thoughts on him and just sort of like the short arm thing. Let's just talk about that um

Look, I'm not an expert. I don't know. I think some of that stuff's kind of overblown But in some ways, it's also kind of not because it's like you look for traits And I think what will be interesting is John Eric Sullivan from the Packers They have this process. They look for certain types of thing If Ruben Bain's there pick 11 because like we don't take guys with those With that type of arm like the passes item. I think dolphins fans. It's how Florida will be like your pass that Ruben Bain It'll be kind of interesting to see how they have plays out if he's actually there pick 11. What are your thoughts perk? Uh, it's it's very interesting because uh Soley today he did talk about their certain traits. Yeah You know, you yeah that that it's a it's a game that's played by big men That's played by fast men and you have to have some of those traits. You know, I love Ruben Bain He's a high motor guy. He's he's a skill pass rusher. He's got a great bull rush He's decent against the run from what I've seen Uh, I think that he's a he's a definite top 15 pick if he's there for the dolphins versus saying now we know up

I I guess I take Maui Noah for versatility because he can start off at guard and then kick out to To tackle like you were saying the dolphins deal with his uncle, which is probably the plan for a lot of team with Maui Noah Um, but I like Bain and I think that that he's a he's an impactful player. I you know, I did my um my draft preview Cashus how the edge rusher from Texas A&M actually has shorter arms He's got short arms Ruben Bain is 30 and seven eighths inches and and Cashus how was 30 and one quarter inches, but I just didn't hear that cashus out I didn't hear that his arms are short. Right. At a certain point you're so high up that people just want to knock you down And and so I think that's the interesting thing about Ruben Bain, but boy, if Bain is there Uh, he'd be hard for me to pass up. I think he's gonna be a A solid pro. I can't say he's gonna be a four-time pro bowler But I think he's gonna be a a year-blown starter and a solid pro

Yeah, I mean if you get to what year one starter you got a chance I mean you you got a chance because that Honestly extends your career and I think that Ruben Bain was I mean those two on a defensive line They were the heartbeat of that the UM team they they're the reason that team got so they're my Marikai You know who has who has two more years, man's in that perk Magic ball out if you're rookie your freshman year in college. You still got to stay in college for two more years No, they're not tuneless ridiculous, but that's another story, but yeah You make millions through so yeah It's a different story. You're right. You're not you're not locked up like you used to be right back in the day That's a great point, man, and sometimes this we got dudes fighting to stay in college Right Well, there were a lot of guys in the SEC. They're already taking pickups when they came to league now Now it's just legal I told Richard Webb that I said Richard Webb you took a big pick up and you can and Richard Webb's the top 10 pick He said nah, he tried to deny I said man. Don't give me that

And then of course, I mean sure Richson comes out about Nick Saving at Alabama You know when Nick saw a word about the NIL and then he said what He gave me I got 75 grand to come there. We got what like 10,000 Come on man, it's been going on for a long time And I know for fact, you know you guys are all about Penn State Penn State I promise you I was broke as a joke at Penn State Broke as a joke had zero money had a nice apartment But had zero zero dollars in my pocket as a matter of fact Now I gotta tell you all my business Well, you told a story on my podcast a few years ago when you first got to Penn State You were so homesick that your family sent you a TV VCR combo so you could record if the folks I am not lying his favorite soap operas So we could watch him every day you feel more like home otherwise he was getting ready to leave Penn State His freshman year You couldn't you couldn't let him go research that Mike you

My soap operas when I got home from work every day and after doing that for like a few months I started watching them myself. I'm like, can't you think you're bad? Yeah, you know what? Where you watching Luke and Laura CBS guy CBS guy. I'm a CBS guy. You know me Older beautiful young and a restless as the world turns part. Don't get on. Don't play with me, man I just got to my classes around young and a restless don't play with me part. I ain't playing Have to watch your stories. They're right. I did They're right. I'm addicted, ma'am's of the dick. It's like my mom see See now Mike you want to tell the stories tell the whole story Mike look at tell story living in a one TV home In a one TV household. Yeah Where we had a VCR one VCR And it was the second VCR we had the first VCR we bought was a box of bricks on the street my we got got We got got this story too And I can't believe they got my mom like that my mom did her best to get me a VCR We have one VCR and back then you had to have the TV on

On the channel to record it you can't just do DVR like you're all this other crazy stuff you can do now So if I wanted to watch TV on our one TV and I had to record my mom's soap so get my ass whoop That's what I had to watch man. So yeah, you know Captain Chancellor and you know, I mean They they man they were big time for the same childhood summer. That's right Until I got a then I got a summer job net health out a little bit Anyhow man Mike. Thanks Mike. Appreciate that, bro. No problem. Hey, June told me the first time The judge of run boys a couple of my boys went to SMU. That's where you should have gone. You wouldn't have been broke Oh, man I Erick Dickerson was driving like a gold corvette or something. It was crazy. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, and Ohio State man Ohio State wanted me They got in a lot of trouble when they were doing I didn't realize they were doing it like that They didn't offer me anything no to go there. They just you know thought I was a hometown boy. It was gonna go to Ohio State

Obviously they're named an offering nothing either. I know that except to play for Lou Holts and touchdown Jesus You know, that's how he offered you know, no, the name was yeah, they were on the hearts of sophomore season in high school They were on me hard man Ohio State Notre Dame Michigan. They were on me hard my for my sophomore year on and In Penn State kind of in middle of my sophomore junior year But yeah, man, it was like, but there was no money offered my and we were broke Yes, why not you know what he offers the hell was going on So I went to a private school. They thought I had some money and I did not that was a fake. That was a joke Oh, just talk about this little bit when you were drafted 93 The night of the like it's night in day now those years like what the draft it was like all like one or two days They would spend you know each pick was like 15 minutes and went forever you going round one Where were you? Were you surprised it was Miami? What was the next step after you get the call where you you know Hand down there the next day was at the next week What was your whole experience like?

Yeah, it was um, yeah, it was uh my experience is way different than how they have today So when I got drafted there was still 12 round draft And um, the draft started on Sunday afternoon So yeah, Sunday afternoon is when the draft started and um I was at Penn State actually the night before Kicking it like oh, we like held haves in the barn at that point You know, they gonna take me or they ain't gonna take me long time to get in trouble with the night You know, I mean, it's too wise. They didn't got to come get me out of jail with that I'm gonna be I'm gonna be in trouble. I'm gonna be alright, man So the hay was already in the barn at that point man, so I was at Penn State for blue white weekend that weekend I got up Sunday morning, and I drove back to Cleveland, Ohio where I um actually I you kicked it so hard man that I was tired as hell so I took a nap on the couch man Lay down the couch. I knew I wasn't going in the first 15 picks I mean, it was already said I wasn't going in first 15 picks and so I just laid on the couch man took a nap

And then I thought I was going around 20 21. I was I was rumored to go 22 to San Diego You know, so I woke up my mom woke me up my mom was worried. I was gonna sleep through the draft But I woke up around pick 20 um You know, I don't know where who was picking at that point But I was waiting really to get to 22 and see if I get a call from the chargers and that call never happened You know and then 23 happened no call there 24 obviously no call there My first and only call was 25 when Don Schuller called me from the dolphins And said they were going to take me at the neck actually if I actually asked me like would you you want to be a Miami dolphin I'm like, hell yeah, I want to be a Miami dolphin. That's not a fucking question to say. I didn't say that I didn't say that but kind of question And so you know, I heard after that mic that that 26 Buffalo was considering was going to take me at 26 So I got lucky that you know dolphin was sitting at 25. They had just lost the ASC championship game the year before

So that means Buffalo was picking one pick behind them. So that worked out absolutely perfect for me I'll come down to Miami, but I was uptell you man. I was like I only went back to Penn State another year to solidify my position in the first round You know, if I was thinking about coming out my junior year after the festival and when we were doing all that All the research they were talking about be late first early second round pick And so I'm like, you know what let me come back one more year Schedule my classes around the young and the rest. Let's take two classes on Tuesday and Thursday That was it and then I just major in football and that's what I did and I was able to get that opportunity Japan bowl going back to that almost messed my draft status up because I hurt my knee in Japan I was headed back to go playing the senior bowl hurt my knee in Japan And so I went straight back to Penn State and started rehab my knee before my pro day in April And so that pro day in April was huge because I missed I went to combine the interviews But I wasn't able to work out, you know, did all my measurable stuff and everything like that But my first workout was at my pro day in April

I mean right before the draft and then that was that was critical for me to be able to go out there and run and run routes and You know, my quarterback was pertin and Savakan Mike for my pro day Talk Kerry Collins Look at that Two years later. He was a fifth overall picking the dress. I had a great quarterback throwing my routes and god That was doing, you know what I mean? And so I had top black as I ain't that damn old person Ten years before 83 I think you guys remember you said that you said top black ladies. That was crazy I thought he might come back He's like really 80s man that stop with that perk. Yeah, so that's so yeah So the fact that I got in the first round Mike to bring it all back man is the fact that I ended up in the first round and definitely coming to Miami That was that was truly a blessing and let me let me let me piggyback that by saying We're talking about that 11 pick for the Miami dolphins There's a lot of pressure on that 11 pick me at 25. There wasn't as much pressure for me at 25

You know, if you think about it. We were already coming off the AFC championship game and we had just lost We just revamped our defense with you know Troy Vincent and Marco Coleman and we have Brian Cox and all those Jeff Cross and all those really the white hall You we had so many really good to Lewis Oliver and Yeah, I mean the defense was stacked so they were just trying to ask some really some firepower to the offense as well as a return guy So when I got there, you know, they just trade traded uh Mark Clayton Duke was still with us. We traded Mark Clayton for a second round pick in New England and we got over fire with that pick You know, so we picked up over fire. We picked up. Then we had Dupor there Tony Martin Myself Mark Ingram So we were getting Keith Jackson Keith buyers Terry Kirby of course Damirino web sims are all our team was stacked You know, and I was a guy really that was there to return kicks that first year So I was I had a lot less pressure than this number 11 is going to have coming into this team

If they stay in that pick because as we know this team needs to be revamped It needs to add some players and they got some players now that have to play like right now I wasn't forced in that situation where I was picked Jews two wide receivers were picked in front of you Yeah, I would bet my life you know their names What are they? I do Kerr's Conway. Yeah, Sean Dawkins. Yeah Curtis Conway went 7th Yeah, you want 7th and Sean dark Sean darkens went 16th 16th Indianapolis Yeah, and you went 25th San Francisco had picked 2627 then the bills they had 28 But um, yeah, and you were pretty much The only offensive player picked between pick 22 To The end around one everyone else's defense. Yeah, I think George T was the last pick in first round, right? Last pick around one George T went to the packers. Yep before him time is Smith

Todd Kelly I'm gonna see the bus flow. All right. I'm a field one after you Smith want the ball flow Dana Stubba field will We had a good draft. Tell wait, please run now. I know we got draft talk next week too But talk about how many Hall of Famers are my draft class a nice draft Hall of Famers you got Willie Roof. Yep, you got your own baddest. Yep You got Michael Strayhan. Yep, Will Shields. Yep, John Lynch Damn, this was a load of draft See if you got anyone else after John Lynch a lot of pro bowlers, but okay, so yeah, we had to get a hell of a draft class Yeah, round seven Wow, you hear round seven Brock Marion went to the Cowboys. He ended up with Miami. Obviously. Yeah You see, I just recently watched that first round too just because it was Something completely unrelated in the broadcast team. They were a little bit caught off guard with the pick They thought uh Miami was gonna take Glenn Millburn. He is

I'm on here's the funny part we tell you about that's the box. It's so funny because I'm listening to Burman who I really don't like I miss those guys on the on the broadcast and they're talking about what this pick, you know, they've got to take, you know Glenn Millburn out of Stanford, you know, and I'm on the phone with Don Sula Damn, please, right? Go ahead. He's talking that dumb sum now on the phone with Sula right now He could say what you want on td, but I'm on the phone with Sula right now That's the funniest part. They had him up too. They all they were announcing the pick They had to win when yo burn up and then they announced the pick and it's like, uh-oh You you could see that in the production room. They have realized I read the commissioners lips too when he was like reading it like, oh, yeah, uh, they're It's official. It's official Glenn Millburn went pick 43 you and 20 picks after you Well, if you talk about that defense of run that lot of teams might have had and you know He was a running backs last kind of return guy My my thing was returning kicks and points and playing wide receivers

So all those things worked out in my favor where he was a running back that pretty much just returned kicks So I work, you know, what they were thinking was a ass and I in my thing And it definitely was ass and juice juice with an SAT word I think we're like mayonnaise All right, we're at the 50 minute mark. I think we should probably assess what do start winding it up with I tried to tell y'all's oh Jay you always go first. So I will give you the honors for and I tried to tell y'all All right, you got it guys. I tried to tell y'all that I believe in this new regime I am all in on coach Hathley and and I love what Sully has been saying I believe them and what they have been saying so far so Really, you know, you're looking at good stuff like toughness and the trenches and smart guys physical guys to film We talked about a little bit, you know It sounds like the NFC North to me a little bit and I like that about what this team needs to be because we got to get tougher You know also believe them when they're talking about

Taking a quarterback every year or two. So There will be you know some solid quarterbacks coming out, you know next year or now on or whatever But and who knows when it's going to be a good hit on a guy like a Brock Purdy or God willing a Tom Brady So I'm putting my hat in the ring for one drew Out there You know, it's from Penn State, you know, Drew came to Penn State as a top quarterback in the country Uh, he might have been one of the top players in the country and since he's a fellow Ohioan as well You know, I have to go all in on him Drew has some phenomenal years at the beginning of his time at Penn State It was really really good But shame on us shame on Penn State Super shame on us for not developing him the way, you know, he deserved Drew was all of six five two hundred and thirty pounds. It's armed talent is ridiculous He's smart as hell and even you know, show me more athletic ability than I thought he had last year But his footwork was a mess. They had his mind condition completely wrong and both of those things are not a fault of his own

But a fault of Penn State football program to correct it and if it can be corrected at this level because he's a hard worker And you know and and he'll get it right That's what I love about what Drew can do for us right now Now I know we have Malik Willis who I know is going to be an outstanding quarterback for us And I know we drafted Quinn viewers last year, you know, his last you gave his last few games showed us a lot about What it can be a little bit of promise from Quinn just like Malik's last few games did But that's why we went and got him now. I'm going to you know Well, I'm sorry now. I'm not saying to draft Drew in the 11th to 30th pick But I am going to say this Draft him him with our second round pick might not be the opposite either, but we have three Third round we have four third round picks now there might be an option right there to go out there and snatching if he's available Now this Green Bay group has always done an amazing job of of stocking quarterbacks up, right? I mean and having one before you need one is always important having one before you need one

It's always important Farve with Rogers waiting Rogers with love waiting love with Malik waiting So now we have Malik and maybe we can have out of their waiting or Quinn doesn't matter me But he both of those guys can battle it out to see who wants to be that guy But we also have the very cognizant of keeping one to pipeline always having a quarterback in the pipeline Just in case because it's absolutely the most important position not just in football But in sports. So bring Drew in letting battle Quinn for the backup and let's get this quarterback trained rolling because we are and I tried to tell you There you go juice for the Penn State tie and shot of course Chris Perkins you're up next All right I tried to tell your late last season that divine HN is a central personnel And now you're here in Sully walk the walk on that after he talked the talk now look

Here's not big thing with H&O. He deserves a contract extension I think James Cook from Buffalo is a good kind of model three years 48 million 30 million guarantee But I think the dolphins need to be smart with H& at his route. He's a 191 pound running back. I like what H& does But his shelf life is very short in this league if you give him high usage You've got to reduce his usage you've got to be smart with the Von H& now look I love the running game that the dolphins had last season I think it was better than the 2023 running game and here's why most of football is situational And I thought with the running game of 2025 it was good in two-minute offense It was good in four-minute offense. It was good in red zone You could give your bond H& the ball on first and ten and you could have second and six You could give him the ball again and have third and one and you could give him a ball the third time

And you could convert now you don't want to do that But that's the difference between this run game in 2023 and 2023 I thought you could give the ball on first down and you were going to have second and 12 And then maybe you would get a 14-yard game But you give him the ball again on first down and you were going to have second and 12 You give him the ball in the red zone. They weren't going to do it H& is a very valuable running bag whether you're running outside zone or between the tackles whether you want to throw it to them But again He's a hundred and ninety-one pounds. So through smart offense on the part of Bobby slow it and through good coaching to the Bell up Jalen right and Ali Gordon the second you got to find ways to preserve Devon H& he's one of your best players He is essential personnel But you want to have him for the length of this rebuild. He's that good. He's that important The dolphins value him, but they've got to do things to preserve him

I'm trying to tell y'all. Yeah, yeah So Valkyrie got something I do as a matter of fact So I tried to tell y'all that the dolphins current leadership is in fact looking to go that classic by the book Best player available in the draft now one of the perks of cleaning house the way that they did is that now when it comes to Selecting or what positions are going to draft. There's almost no wrong answer Now speaking of perks our very own here publish an article today on this particular topic In it he compares Miami's first through third round selections from 2019 to 2023 to the same range is picked by the Detroit lines And man that man is not bad in our favor I'll spare you all the dirty details because Perk took the time to write that up So you can go over there and read that on the Sun Sentinel But the skinny is Miami did not do particularly well drafting during that stretch now out of 16 dolphin picks

There were no superstar selections for successful picks five solid selections and seven disappointing picks Now you contrast that to the to the lions who had 18 selections during that same stretch turned one into a superstar Uh, nine other successful selections two solid picks and six disappointments And the lions made one playoff appearance between 19 and 23 which resulted in an NFC championship birth They uh, they have seven all pro selections among five players 15 proble selections among eight of them Out of those draftees now we have to keep in mind of course who it was that was making those decisions As we all know the folks that were in Miami are no longer in the building While Detroit keeps on trucking and their brain trust features none other than and I can't believe Perk pointed at the lion specifically for this because it gives me yet another reason to highlight There's senior personnel executive that joined the D right in the middle of all that say it with me now

John freaking dorsi the green bay product So let's rewind If Miami hopes to build a contender that lasts They're gonna have to follow the playbook laid out by the teams that still operate on that old school mindset Because these days old schools now considered kind of fresh or retro. I don't know Whatever either way it works and I tried to tell you Nice nice nice Brought it there. All right I tried to tell y'all I mean he's having a good day first he got first he got in the first question now this he gets Oh That's it He got two packs. All right, bye bye. All right It's kind in the same vein and it's let me start with this here's what I tried to tell you I don't know John Eric Sullivan will turn out to be a great GM or even a good GM But I tried to tell you all from the time he was hired and when he first spoke to the media It's a refreshing change of pace from what we were used to with Chris Greer every time this guy talks to the media

He doesn't dodge any questions. I think today there was one question He didn't want to answer and he politely said I'm gonna keep that to myself right now I don't want to tip my hand, but that was it Everything else this guy is open and honest about his draft plan more likely to trade down Then up we have eleven picks and we need them all one with Chris Greer. Was there ever a plan? Ever one year he's trading away picks for Tyree can shove the next year He's trading valuable picks move up and around to some years. He's trading picks out of that year One of his rosters thanks to trade picks in the future years This guy was like Stevie Wonder had a salad bar He was gonna add some do's He was gonna add some do his plate, but you Who did? Oh idea if there was any rhyme or reason behind He could be me laugh Maybe stuff all over it. Okay, not solving though when he was asked about Troy Akman's involvement He said he'll be at the facility welcoming the war room But he's not gonna be consulted on picks because unlike the last guy Who would ten minutes after he picked the guy said well this had coach and served his name

These two scouts and this position coach loved them So I gave him what he wanted which is code four if this goes bad don't blame me I just gave him what they wanted Sullivan is taking ownership of Every picks and these are my decisions no committee it ain't up for a vote Everyone can have their opinion, but I'm the final call and I'm taking responsibility For this and we're getting close to the anniversaries of these famous clips Clip number one. Well, I think you guys are probably more worried than we are You know in terms of you know At the position depth that at those spots you talked about but And then a year later because that you're and it's so well. He doubled down. We're confident in the offensive line So again, you know, it's just one of those. It's you know, Mike and I just we always kind of chuckle, you know I know you guys made a joke about me saying that I don't know what you guys are more worried about it than we are but Internally, that's how we feel about our group here as a as a team

now Okay Well, John Eric Sullivan ever given answer like that. I've only seen this guy talk for about what three months He will never give an answer like that. That's not a prediction. That's a spoiler Again, I don't know if he's gonna work out and put a winning product on the field But our last three GMs were Jeff fireland mr. Hickey and Chris Greer He's already ahead of Jeff fireland because he hasn't asked a prospect yet if his mother was a prostitute Hickey ran two drafts and outside of Landry missed that literally everything else And I was taken over for Greer who let's just go through a couple the highlights trade up for Liam Mike and Berk took Cam Smith and around to Noah I've been arguing around one Charles Harris over T.J. Watt to over Herbert trade up for Jonah So Vianneja just saying after one years not looking too promising there either and the fuel pixie did hit on like Robert hunting Brandon Jones He let walk out the door. Well, they gave extensions to Austin Jackson and to the key thing John Eric Sullivan said today was this Which we've already said in the show I worked in Green Bay with a guy that used to say be careful about trying hit the home run

Just make sure you hit a double off the wall with seven picks in the top hundred hit four or five Hit four or five of those doubles maybe get one home run And if he does the dolphins will be on the right track moving forward And I try to tell y'all this is the right man for this job right now And we'll see a long term. He's if he's a right man for the job But you just get the ship on track We need a guy with this mindset of draft Develop and let's just fix this thing and try to fix it as best we can because he the last three gms have screwed this up Yeah far beyond recognition Yes, sir, right. Yo, I love that. That's okay. Yeah, I mean if you hit enough Did we hear enough doubles off the wall? Chris you put up crooked numbers Mike you do me a favor can you put that that first Put that first clip up again real quick for me because Wow Chris is talking. I don't see Mike McDaniel and agreement with what he's saying

That's like a hostage video. It's nine seconds here we go But then you guys are probably more worried than we are Yeah, in terms of you know At the position death that those spots you talked about but Yeah, see that face screams. He was a little worried If you see her off into lunch, I was in high-dive In comparison, this is just from a couple months ago when he first got the job This is four seconds. Oh, I need to know about John Eric Sullivan When Yeah, we got it. I'm here to win. I'm not gonna laugh at you guys you guys are more worried than oh Double down. Oh my god Double down was nasty work We chuckle behind the scenes. What you laughing at right? Too good, bro. Great stuff though. Let's great stuff there. Yeah, you already get up out of here. Yeah

We're going to rip it off. Oh, Jay. All right, y'all everybody. Thank you. Thank you, Mike. Thank you, Savak Thanks, Chris and thank everybody else for diving in
