We'll see. Seahawks got good news on quarterback Sam Darnold regarding the hip injury per coach Mike McDonald. He told Seattle Sports 710 in Seattle, the hips intact, injury appears to be more muscular. Darnold though is expected to miss the week two game at Arizona. The expectation is Drew Lock starts in his place. This is Matt and Marin on ESPN radio. And that darn six four from Kentucky. Matt Jones. I don't like coaches that sprint onto the field. That's a lot of unnecessary. If you were to ask Matt Jones, who are his two least favorite coaches at college football? James Fraco the dabbo sweetie. The one thing they have in common is they both sprint onto the field as if they are playing.

2:02I'm going to build a fence with Carson Wins. Like something like that. That's what you want to do. Why do you always when you do rap? It's like 1985. Like the first time people ever wrapped in the history of rap. Like you rap like the day people discovered rap. Like you're like everybody jump pop up. Like that's how you rap. That's not that wasn't one of the nice ones though. There are nice ones. And I'm a read them to you. But first we're going to bring in Ryan.

3:02McGee, ESPN anchor Marty and McGee. He is going to be in Lexington, Kentucky, which is my home. You actually are going to beat me there because you're going to get there before I do. How are you doing? I'm good. Yeah, it's always an interesting time. It's the first the first real southeastern conference game. And so we'll go out for that and we'll do a SEC nation and Marty McGee. Yeah, I love going there. The first time I went there, I was a student at Tennessee and I was on the video crew, like the film crew. And this was Commonwealth Stadium and it was open on one end and reminded me so much of where I grew up at NC State, old Carter Finley. I remember I had a video camera tripod. This is the 90s, right? So everything weighs a thousand pounds. They put us on a platform behind the scoreboard in the open end zone. And it was me and it was a camera guy from Kentucky and it was a damn, it was a camera guy from TBS that weighed about 900 pounds. And they literally lifted us and everybody's got

4:04integrated array bottles, but me because I'm the rookie. I don't know, right? They lift us up and they chain us off. And to the top of the scoreboard and we're just swaying every time I would move that camera, we would swear and it was a damn snow storm coming. I was like, but I say all that to say I love a Lexington, although my first ship up there was. Sounds like it. Well, let me, I did we played in the last segment. Kentucky coach Will Stein said, everybody get in your seats early. If you need to bring a flask, sneak in a flask and you can yell obscenities. Do you love that energy? Well, that sounds like a guy who hasn't actually attended a college football game in a while like every game he's been to. He ain't going through security, right? He didn't realize there's a clear bag policy. But no, so, you know, I won't go to the game. I'm thinking, all right, I have a flask, but it has a big orange Tennessee tea on it. No, no, I can't bring, you can pray. Can't bring that. Yeah, they won't let me bring that in. But no, it's, but you know, I love the energy. I like him.

5:04You know, it's funny because I don't know him very well. I certainly know him from when he was a quarterback up the road at Louisville. And you know, he, by the way, they, they, they, Teddy Bridgewater played behind Will Stein. Yes. Will's very quick to tell you. He laughs when he says it. But, um, but it was the coolest thing last week, Marty and I were doing their show at Noon now. So we leading the 1245 game on SEC Network and we're watching Will Stein on a live feed. And that dude was so fired up. And it's cool watching guys dreams come true. Yeah. And for him, that's it. Yeah. Well, I guess for him, just to look on his face was just pure like, I can't believe I'm Getting to do this. And so for him to say that, you know, that's what it's going to take if Kentucky is going to win the game. But you know this. You guys know this better. Anybody eats a sneaky. Great college football environment. And it was not that when I used to go there in the 90s. And now it is. And so that's, that's going to be their chance. Ryan Haap. Is Kaelin DeBourre's seat going into this season to Alabama? It's hot. I mean, it is.

6:04And it's, I hate it because I like him. And I think that what he's done has been, you know, it's been pretty good. I mean, nearly one of the conference championships. And he was always going to be the guy that followed the guy. So it always felt to me like, you know, he's only going to be there so long. No matter what he does is never going to be good enough. But what he's done is pretty solid. But when you talk to the people down there, you would think that they've gone three and nine the last three years. And they have not. And, you know, now he has a freshman quarterback behind center, but it's also a quarterback that he wants. You know, the old rule used to be, right? You got to wait till the guy get his, coach gets his guys in there. It's not that way anymore because of transfer for all of a sudden. But it kind of feels that way in Tuscaloosa like I felt kind of like he's gotten his guys in there now. Jalen Milro just didn't fit what those guys wanted to do. Now they have a quarterback, even though he's barely out of high school. Who knows what he's doing. But I say all that to say, yes, the seat is very hot. But he knows that. And I think he's handled all that much better than most would have. But how hot is it if it loses in Lexington?

7:05Oh, it's on fire torched. I mean, whatever it's the, what was the, the album cover with the seat of pink Floyd. Here it is. The guys on fire. That's what it's going to be. But he knows that. And again, it always kind of felt like he's a short timer. Yeah. You got to be, and I give him credit for you have to take the job of Alabama calls. But, um, but unless he just won, you know, he has to win an astro championship. He's going to conference championship or otherwise those, they're just spoiled rotten people down there when they show football. Yes, they are. And the following the legend is always impossible pretty much anywhere. Let me ask you about a guy who didn't fall in legend, but at least in his own mind, consider himself a legend. And that's Lane Kiffin. Uh, I am entertained by Lane. I like that he's a villain. I think it's good for the sport. We know all the histrionics that happened in the weeks leading up to it. But let me ask, I mean, they also won the game 51 to 10. Are they like national championship good? No, I think they are. And the reason that I think that they are is because I mean, you guys both know the deal when we go talk to these coaches and we sit in our office.

8:09And not just a head coach, but the whole staff. We can tell when they're trying to say every, every coach says we're going to be great. And we can win this and we can win that. And you know, I think we're really good or whatever. And you can tell when they're trying to convince themselves of that little on us. And then you can also tell when they believe it. And I'm Marty and I sat in Ed O'Dron's office who's on the staff. And he believes it. And I saw T Martin speaking to Tennessee. I saw T in the hallway and he believes it. I mean, these are guys they had those coach step has that look like we're really good. And I don't think I don't think Clemson is great. There weren't even in the top 25 going to that game. But despite Davos when you run it out on the field, which I hear you love that. I can hate it. But I just but I think they have a chance. I think they're better than I thought they were going to be. And so we'll see. But yeah, but man, what a what a bizarre deal that was. Marty and I were sitting in Kiffin's office on Friday because we were going to interview him. But everything was still so up in the air. We're like, well, could we just have you on our show live, noon Eastern on on Saturday?

9:13And so we did our show live from his office. And in the difference in the building Friday, everybody had that LSU circle the wagons us versus the world screw them kind of thing. Well, we came in on Saturday morning to look on everybody's faces was, you know, I don't think we're going to win this. And I think that's what happened. And of course, by that morning, we knew that those two guys were going to be on the roster. Now they aren't going to be on the roster. And I just I think they thought after the courthouse on Thursday and you know, it's on the general and the governor and everybody running their mouth. I think they thought we could actually win this thing. And then by Friday night, they were like, uh, this is going to suck if we keep pushing this. And that's why I went away. Right. I thought the face of the SEC this year wouldn't be laying Kiffin, but Archman who's going into this big time matchup against a high state. What would he prove if he had a big game and let Texas to win over the buck ice? He proved that he's as good as we all were hoping that he's going to be. You know, the reality is is that you go back and watch that game a year ago. Um, you know, he played didn't play great, but still had him and had a chance to win the game.

10:15And so I think that I like him a lot. Um, I think that we all are tired of hearing about it. I remember this happened to paint. I remember the weekend that paid them. It was they were playing Vanderbilted and in a Knoxville. And that was the weekend of the of the Charles Woodson interception, you know, in the game. Yeah. And but I remember everybody was just sick of hearing about Peyton Manningtep. It happened with T-Bo. Everybody got sick of hearing about T-Bo. So I think that T-Bo's why he didn't win two hyzms. And so I think everybody's just kind of sick of hearing about arch. That's not fair to arch. I think that light came into board. I think arch has handled all this way better than anyone realizes. Um, and so I'm kind of rooting for that. I don't care who wins the games. I really don't, but I like him. And I would love to see him go win a big game like that. Uh, right here off the bat and kind of, uh, kind of respond to everyone who rips him all the time. And some of the reasons I think he gets ripped is because you have these moments, Ryan and college football in sports in general, where the whole country is watching something for whatever reason. And that Texas Ohio State game last year, everybody was watching it because it was the first big game of the year, right?

11:19And everybody's got it turned on. It was first game of the day. That's kind of what this is going to be because the whole country will be watching that game. He's got a chance to almost flip that narrative. Don't you think before the season gets crowded and there's a lot of games going on every week? Yeah, when I saw the schedule and I realized, I mean, first of all, these home and homes like that, I mean, Texas Ohio State, you gotta be kidding me. It's just, that's just too big. It's awesome, especially this early in the year. And so, yes, that showcase was always going to always going to be there for him, but he needs to have a huge day on a huge stage. And that's what this opportunity is because guess what? That's what his uncle did. What his uncle did. You can say what you want to say about Eli, but the biggest stage that there is, he's pretty good in that game. Every time he showed up and so, as Tom Brady. And so, I think that I think that it's a chance for him to make a statement. But it's also a chance for Ohio State, who, in my opinion, has the best roster in the country. It's a chance for them to make a statement too. So, it's, no, it's going to be a fantastic night. But I just, I root for Archmaning just because I like him.

12:22And I don't like it when a teenager becomes, you know, everybody's target. And that's the life that he's been living. Ryan, this is going to go ahead, Mike. Well, Ryan, this is the first preseason or early season where I haven't heard Georgia as a storyline. Like you just don't hear anything about Georgia. Why do you think that is? I think they dig it. Number one, I think it's because, and again, Tom, I'm being spoiled rotten. You know, it's kind of like this narrative that the SEC is completely falling apart because they haven't won a national championship or played for a national championship in three years. Oh, boohoo. You know, they're 114 out of 17. And so with Georgia, they went back to back championships and it was like, here comes the dynasty. And then the disappointment is they keep winning the conference and they keep making the playoff, but they exit at the sugar ball. And so I think everybody just because of that, but no, no, no, they totally dig it. And there's this is kind of a new Kirby smart. Like he's a looser kind of trying to enjoy himself. Kirby smart is opposed to the guy that won a national title and like threw his headset at the headset guy because the, you know,

13:26George or Crankold or whatever. And so I think that they kind of dig that, but it's um, you know, no one's really talking about them because people kind of went into it thinking the SEC has to prove something that kept talking about Texas and archmaning. And like I say, the bulldogs, I think are totally digging that lack of attention because they will get everyone's attention. We'll say start one of those big. I like Ryan McGee saying digging like that. Yeah, that's your word today. Like everything you dig it. Like that's right. That's like groovy right? I dig stuff, man. I'm at that age now. You know, I last night I was grilling chicken wings and playing Miss Pac-Man and playing van Halen. I'm like, you know what? I'm the dad. That's just how it is. The two on him. And so, so digging. Let's talk about it. Let's, you know, we'll take it all by today. He's all day. I like playing Miss Pac-Man. Let's say we were talking about where everybody's watching. The whole country was watching the end of the Michigan Western Michigan game. Had you ever heard this rule about two clocks? And I think it's complete nonsense. The explanation. What about you?

14:26I was just, I just spent the afternoon with my father. Yeah. What you guys know was it was a college football official for decades, Rose Bulls, National Title Games, whatever else. My dad was a field judge. And part of the field judge's job is the field judge in the back judge. One keeps the game clock on their watch and the other keeps the play clock on their watch. And the reason they do that is because of scoreboard failures and whatever else. My dad was officiating when Insta Replay came along. My dad was officiating when the HQs, you know, when the command center's all started popping up. I mean, he'd seen some stuff. He'd never heard of that. Okay. And the rule has always been when they, and Mike Pereira from Fox was talking about this other day and he was spot on, which is the rule has always been, you know, when everything started going to the command centers. When it came to the clock, if there was any discrepancy, then the rule was, if there's a discrepancy on the clock at HQ, forget it. The clock at the stadium rules because the clock at the stadium is what all the people watching on television see.

15:27And it's what the 110,000 people in the big house saw. And so you can't, if your clock's the only one that's a second off, it's wrong. Everybody else is what's right. And so there's a whole synchronization that happens like, like the back judge that keeps the game clock on his watch. He goes to the TV compound hours before the game and syncs up his watch with the television truck. I mean, there are so many layers and steps to this. And everybody was on the same page except for the handful of guys in Chicago who were watching the television monitor. And if you're the only people on earth that are a second off, then you're a second off. Maybe it's your fault. Everybody breaks up with you. Maybe it's on you. Everyone's on time except for you, then you probably just roll with everyone else. So that was the mistake. And I give Western Michigan credit because in the beginning, I was like, y'all can't be this like gracious about this. And now that they've had some time to think about it, they realize that this wasn't their fault. And it isn't cool to be gracious to Magnanimus. They sound to be gracious. It's time to dig in. That's right.

16:29We either guess we lost Meyer in there. Let me ask you, going to a couple other games from the weekend, I look around the country and I see games that people don't really pay attention to that could end up being big when it comes to playoff. For instance, Utah playing Arkansas and a game that most people wouldn't care about, but Utah's a team that might end up in the playoff. But they need to win this one, right? Yeah, there's no question about it. And you know this, Arkansas has made a living out of ruined and stuff for everyone else. Yes, yes. Yeah, yes. Yeah, it's Texas about it. And to me, it's one of the most underrated environments, you know, on planet earth. But you know, Michigan, Oklahoma, you know, everyone's talking about the clock, but the reality is this is a game that has, I mean, certainly has playoff implications and might have national championship in case. Because I'm not sure who Oklahoma is, you know, they're their team that rallied and got their way into the playoff last year by one of who they are. Yeah, I'm with you. But Arkansas is so, you know, in SEC media days, we had five new head coaches, six if you include Kiffins move.

17:30And it was interesting because we all, we all know Will, because he played quarterback Louisville and he did such a great job organ. We all knew these, these coaches and everybody's like, who is the Arkansas coach? And I think even the Arkansas people like who is our coach? Yeah. And so I feel like they still feel that way 100%. And so, so that to me, that makes them a very, very dangerous wild card. And so yes, I think that that is an off the radar game that everybody needs to be at least looking in on. Ryan, we talked about Alabama and some of these other teams that were once powerhouses. How is NIL and revshare made it harder for those teams to kind of stack talent the way they once did? Well, to me, it started with the transfer portal that, you know, Alabama and Georgia and those guys, you know, you knew that if you just held tight, right? If you just, if you, if you were willing to be able to scout team to run out of the plays, just be second, third on the death chart for a couple of years by the time your junior year got there. And you could be a starter at Georgia, Alabama or Texas or wherever you're going to go to the NFL.

18:34And at the very least you're going to win some sort of ring, bowl ring, you know, conference championship ring, you know, national championship ring. And the reality is guys don't want to sit there. You know, you only have so much time and you're only only believe it or not kids. You don't, you can't really stay in college for seven or eight years, right? I mean, my daughter is going to probably argue about the athleticist. She probably want to do it. But, but, you know, now and now once the five year rule takes hold, you got five years. And so guys don't want to sit there. And so that it, you know, it's Diego Pavia and it's these guys that will transfer somewhere else. Yes, for money. But for me, it's more about the guys who want to go somewhere and play. And so now, you know, suddenly you'll get some wide receiver at UNLV or whatever. They're just wearing everybody out. You're like, who the hell is this guy? Well, that guy was, it was third on the death chart at Georgia last year. And now he's playing. And so to me, that's the great, that's the great leveler is when guy, even before the NFL got there, it was when your ability to transfer out and to go play immediately.

19:34I mean, why wouldn't you? And I have no problem with that. You know, if I told my daughter when she went to college, and if you go to this school and you don't like it, then guess what? There's 2,000 other schools and we can find one for you. And so if she has that opportunity or every college student does, then why not do it with football players at least give her one free pass. I'm with you. Listen, I'm in section seven Saturday in Commonwealth Stadium. Okay. If we win, I'm storming the field, Ryan, I hope you'll be there with me. I know you're not supposed to pick, but it would be a lot of fun if they won. Oh, no, no, I'm all about the fun. So I don't, like I say, I don't always say I don't care who wins the games. What I want is I want to see something fun. And that would definitely be fun, especially be fun watching you run out onto the field with your flask and running out there looking like James Franklin, that was. That's what I want to say. Let me tell you something. If we win, I will put on my khakis and I'll sprint from one end of one end of Commonwealth Stadium to the other. Ryan McGee host of Marty McGee. It's noon. Am I the only one that I can't take Mike Vrable seriously? Like I just see him laying by a pool in Sedonia every time I see him. I got just can't like every time I see him like he tries to talk seriously and I just see him at that pool. On the little lounger. Is that wrong of me?

25:47I mean, I'm sure a lot of people have the same thought at this stage. Well, I mean, then we can verbalize it, right? Like it's hard to like he said like he gets up there and he's like talking about stuff. It's hard for me not to just see him and go look at it. Man, I saw you at the pool and it's got to be an issue for some people, right? Yeah, I mean, losing brings up a lot of that. Like you saw a lot of the comments were about that. It's going to be like that all year though. If he loses, yes. Yeah. All right. He wins no one will care. Probably, but I think at least through halfway through the year, that's going to be on my mind. Now, earlier in the show, Miron was complaining because he said everybody that writes in or calls in. Says something not nice about, right? A lot of this, a lot of that. So I'm opening up the phones as well. 888 say his opinion. If you have something nice to say about Miron, he doesn't want anything bad. He wants something nice. I'm going to read you. I opened up the text machine, which was 772745254. Here's some of the comments that came in. One person writes, Matt Miron is my favorite show on the radio.

26:49That's good. Right? That's good. Yeah, that wasn't about me specifically though. Okay. I'm going to keep going. Okay. Miron's hairline is better than Marcus Freemont. I'll take that because his is a lie. So yeah, Miron is natural. I'll take that. How about this one? Miron has the best laugh on ESPN. I think that's actually not even in dispute. You have an A plus quality laugh. It doesn't affect it might be my favorite thing about you. Kind of Stanley from the office ask. That's that's how you see me. You see me as Stanley. But Stanley from the house. He doesn't do anything. But he has a great laugh though. You know when he gets tickled and he starts to yeah, we also have to do any work. Well, I mean there are other similarities. One person writes Miron may be a corporate butt kisser, but he still is the mate. the main. So that's the backhand that compliments them. I don't like you start low and then

27:51you try to raise it, but that's not, that's not how it works. Uh, another person writes, my favorite baseball player was Tony Gwen. I consider my, and the Tony Gwen of ESPN radio. Well, Tony Gwen was great. You know, you know, Tony Gwen was an incredible point guard, right? I think I did know that for when he was at San Diego State, right? One of the greatest point guards in college basketball history. Yes. And then how about this one? Myron was once a co-host of the best Sunday morning show of all time. Okay. Yeah, that's, that's better than what people were saying before. I just like it's been five weeks of, uh, you know, negativity sometimes. We got a spring. I say ESPN people can give what we got moose in Montana. He has something nice and barely go ahead moose. How's it going guys? I got to give you your flowers. I've called into a few radio stations and after I got off with you guys last week, my phone blew up. My boss even

28:52heard me on the radio. He now calls me moose in Montana. That's all I gotta say. You guys are the best radio ever. I heard I'm getting a promo. So I'm stoked. Keep it up, boys. There you go. I like it. Now that was a common more for the show. That was more for the show. Let's admire and specifically. Selfish compliments are kind of more general than Myron specific. 33:01not good enough to get a great pick. So you're not going to get one of these top young guys. Who do you get on the free agent? Yes, I know. I better than Baker Mayfield. Here's what we're is me about Baker. He's only he's going to be just good enough for them to not get one of the quarterbacks in this year's draft. But he's not good enough to win you a title. So you're just going to kind of be he's going to make you competitive. He's going to keep you from being bad. But does anyone believe Tampa Bay has a chance to win the Super Bowl this year next year or the next year? Yeah, but how many teams do you think can actually win a Super Bowl right now? But they, but you either need to be on the path to win the Super Bowl or you need to be rebuilding towards winning a Super Bowl. And Baker puts you right in the path of being pretty good, not good enough to win a Super Bowl, but also not able to go get your quarterback that could build you to win a Super Bowl. So you're kind of just writing this no man's land. That's the problem. Yeah, we've been waiting though for this generation of quarterbacks who are going to suddenly carry a team like Josh Allen and Joe Burrow and Lamar those guys were unique, man. They were. They know that this next class will be very good.

34:02We don't know that degree, but we I think we do know they're not going to win a Super Bowl with Baker. May fit, right? We know that. So Tua also went out today of practice with an injury.
