You're tuned to the drive on your 24-7 home of the Black & Gold Steelers Nation Radio.
Good afternoon, Steelers Nation.
It's the drive on the Steelers Audio Network six days away from the NFL draft.
Fired up and ready to go to close down this week.
Wes Euler and Matt Williamson with you as always.
But Matt, we're going to start things off a little different today.
A little bit.
As our listeners know, we can no longer play licensed music, right?
We have to come in with these generic sound beds due to some NFL licensing issues.
But we have a very special guest on the line now.
And Matt, if we were allowed to play whatever music we want,
it would be a good time for a poison song because joining us on the phone lines.
Steelers, superfan, butlers finest, Brett Michaels, legendary rock and roll frontman.
Brett, how are you doing?
Thank you so much for taking the time today.
I, first of all, I am so fired up right now to talk with you guys.
I thank you for having me on.
And I just want to say this, we need some music.
I'm going to come down here.
We're going to, I'm going to cut something just for your love.
I'm going to give you a non generic cut of something insane.
And we'll just call it get your game on.
And we're going to write you up something amazing.
It's that's a done deal.
Dude, that's awesome.
Brett, I grew up on the house.
On the house.
That's awesome.
I'm about 10 years younger than you, Brett.
And I grew up a huge fan all through high school.
And especially beyond and MTV and all that great stuff that you guys did.
And everything since.
But as I mentioned, 10 years younger than you.
And the first real game I remember as a kid was the Steelers 4th Super Bowl against the Rams.
Were you kind of in your prime like right when Chuck Noel was like taking over in your formative years?
Yeah, so this here it is.
First of all, thank you.
And again, for me, I remember that vividly.
Here's one of my, still one of my best friends, right?
Now, we're back in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania.
My dad's a veteran and we moved around a bit but came from the Butler area.
Mostly grew up in Butler.
Then Mechanicsburg long story shorty ended up at the inland naval depot, right?
So we're at my friend Dave Bressler's house and my friend Slick and Ted,
all of them.
If anyone ever goes on my socials, we get together,
play football, baseball, still out there.
We're weekend warriors, right?
I vividly remember, vividly remember, L.A., the game, Rams.
If I'm not mistaken, it was freaky because it rained.
Do you remember when it was, I remember the feel being muddy.
I'm like, yeah, yeah, I hope, I hope I'm not having an 80's party too hard flat.
I just want to say, I remember it, I remember that game vividly and you know,
during that, the Chuck no air, right?
I would say that.
And I remember, do you remember the catch stalwart made?
Sure.
I mean, he literally his neck was bent backwards and that second half,
we just came out on fire because it was a little rough in the beginning.
I don't know if you remember that but we were all on the same things at Dave's house
and we were, we kept the spirit high.
You know, I'm a bet on, you know, bet on the Steelers guy, stillers guy.
But we, we were getting a little beat up and then we did what we always do as they say.
Great teams aren't always great.
They're just really great when they have to be and and and we did it.
We did it. It was amazing.
You must have been born at the absolute right time, though,
to just like when you were old enough to understand what football was all about,
the Steelers were starting to get really good.
One million percent.
So here, and I go back to the, you know, I'm talking back before 74, right?
And building, you know, even leading into the immaculate reception, you know,
building up to what became our great teams.
But I'll never forget as a kid, waking up Christmas and going downstairs and Butler
and seeing a Steelers uniform in these old octagon cardboard boxes,
with it, we thought was protective gear, technically off the record may not have been as
protective as we thought, which may have led to a few of my emotional issues.
But, you know, a couple, a couple of fingers, but we, that was one of the best days.
And then when 74 hit and all the summer playing the Vikings and and just from then on out and
then to come against Cowboys twice, then the next thing you know, we're playing the game
against the Rams and just, it's just, it was a good, a good part of my life.
But Jack Lambert changed my life.
This is no lie.
When, and this is a great story.
When he, you remember in the Super Bowl, again, we were having a rough go at the beginning
and Roy Jurella missed the kick, right?
I don't want to bring up a bad moment.
Great kicker missed the kick and Harris from the Cowboys got all over him.
He's pounding his head and Jack Lambert came back and threw him to the ground.
And that willpower and determination from there on out.
Again, I go back to this chemistry and willpower make all the difference.
It gives you that extra 1% you need to, to win.
You only got to be 1% better than the other team.
You want to be a million percent better, but you only need to beat him by 1%.
And, and that, that moment with Jack Lambert as a young diabetic changed my life.
It made me fired up.
It made me realize just go out there, be victorious and don't be a victim.
I love it. Love it.
We're fired up to be chatting a little Steelers football and draft here with Brett Michaels.
Brett, you know, we're all three of us Western Pennsylvania guys.
I'm from Butler County as well.
Matt's a, Matt's a South Hills guy.
So we all grew up in the Pittsburgh region.
And you have obviously had a, had a insanely successful career.
Millions of albums sold, millions of tickets sold.
But I got to imagine the relationship that you have with the Steelers organization,
the things that you're able to do around the team,
things like training camp and performances at Acresure Stadium during games and,
of course, being a part of the NFL draft this week.
I got to imagine that means probably just about as much to you as,
as selling all those albums and all those tickets.
It is, so you just summed it up.
It is, I just want to put this up.
There's my alarm to call you 20 minutes late.
That is perfect.
Brett Michaels.
That is rock star stuff.
I met well with the wrong time on my, I go,
why is the alarm going off now?
So honestly, it is bucket list dream come true.
You have no idea.
I'm going to be in Pittsburgh all this week.
You know, all this week through the draft to be there and work with the runies,
right?
The best there is the runies and to work with my friend Thomas told John Waterick.
We called John Waterick at Steelers.
Because me and him would go to Kaniyat Lake and get some stitches
when we ride the blue streak.
I'm like, did anyone ever get stitches on that old roller coaster?
He's like, oh my god, I did.
I go, John, come on.
I had to use the mechanic chrome.
I don't even know what that stuff was.
But it was orange and fixed everything, right?
But true story, this is, this is like bucket list.
I know I'm fired up talking to you guys because this is an honor.
But it's bucket list to me.
This is, I played football.
I'm going to make sure you guys have some great photos.
The shoulder pads were bigger than I was.
That's all I'm going to say.
Nice.
But, but playing football, living from music and sports,
family and friends, that's my life.
So this is like just everything coming together and get to Pittsburgh early.
I get to do the Pittsburgh parogi toss with Big Joe.
And all you guys were going to do the first ever Pittsburgh parogi toss
cornhole style.
The light.
Oh, that's great.
We don't know exactly what we're doing it doing yet.
But someone's going to get a parogi in the pile.
That's all we know.
So, Brett, you might, you mentioned Lambert.
That's fantastic.
You mentioned Lambert.
Is he your all-time favorite stealer or is there somebody else?
So, all right.
I'm going to go really unlike what I'm going to say this.
I don't want to go generic.
I love all the stealers for different reasons.
They play different parts in my life like music.
You can have nothing but a good time or a talk during me catch right
getting rocking.
And then you turn around and something to believe in.
Every rose or unbroken.
Each of them play different parts.
Terry Bradshaw came over, signed an autograph for me.
It was totally great when I was a kid.
And then, you know, but then you look at guy like Jack Lambert
that just, you know, he played angry and it was great.
He played with a passion.
He played angry.
Jack Ham, obviously Franco.
Rocky Blier, I consider a friend now.
But he's a veteran like my father.
We had a, everyone in my family or veterans
including my sisters.
And then to take my daughters, you know,
I want to say this, my daughters to the games, my wife.
We would, we go there and we wave the terrible towel on the field.
Mike Tomlin, I'm saying this as he's a family friend,
his son Mason comes out to star Lake and opens his shows for me.
And just so many different stealers then and now Jerome Betis.
One of the most fired up conversations I ever had.
He just had this willpower to win.
And Friar Mooth just, you know, what?
All of them.
Just Harrison.
I could go, I mean, this may just have an hour in your view.
I could name a ball.
I understand.
Current, past and current.
But I'm just a believer that they, there's such a,
Pittsburgh is unique.
There is a Pittsburgh ease and it travels and, you know,
I go to Steelers bars in Arizona and it's, it's the only bar that's packed and everyone
having the time of their life and it's just, we have a certain language.
My dad would go down to three rivers and he's like,
Hey, we're going down stillers.
Is everyone got stuff?
And that's all we needed to know.
We knew what time to show up.
When to be there, when to tailgate.
Who brought this?
Who brought that?
It was, it was good.
That's, that's so cool.
It's fantastic.
Brett and I know, obviously, you know,
kind of, you speak to the, the uniqueness of Pittsburgh and being from this region and
being a Steelers fan.
I think a big part of that, big part of that, right?
I don't know about many places where you could find yourself and Wiz Khalifa on a stage
together other than Pittsburgh this week.
What are you and another famous artist from this region have planned coming up here for the draft?
Oh, I've got so much.
So, first of all, Wiz, let me tell you, we called this the black and yellow.
We decided together.
This is the black and yellow.
Nothing but a good time and nothing but a good draft.
That's what we're calling it.
We're going to pick well.
We're picking well.
And we, and so we decided we're going to mash it up.
We, we talked through it.
If you, I'm going to make sure you guys see the funniest picture.
I draw stuff out still.
I'm not making this up with a pencil and a piece of paper,
how the stage could look.
When I send you this drawing from how it started to where it became,
it looks like I have crayons and build out the stage and then we make it happen.
And everyone at the NFL has been incredible to work with.
Tim and again, John and John Waterick.
And all of them at stillers have been great.
Thomas Tall has been great and everybody.
But Wiz Khalifa, myself playing nut, we call it all killer hits.
No filler and free, feel free to use that when we make some bad hits,
some really bad ass hits.
Like call it all killer hits, no filler, right?
I love it.
But we're going to bring that.
We're going to bring those, nothing but hit songs.
The whole NFL draft music series kicks off with the song,
nothing but a good time.
Awesome.
And, and it's not going to slow down from there.
So Brad, last thing I got for you, let you, let you roll out of here.
Please don't give any details.
And I probably know the answer.
But have you ever partied with Motley crew or Aussie?
The answer is yes, yes, and yes.
And then there's even some I remember.
Is it everything is cracked up?
I'm telling you one time when we're talking on or off the record,
I can't ever, you know, I'm going to take it to the grave guy.
You can count on me.
I got your back.
But there's some stories I got to tell that will,
you'll think I'm making it up.
You're making that up.
I'm like, I'm not making it up.
And I would believe that he's all of it.
I lived to talk about it.
Good thing.
And by the way, a big shout out came brown going to be their Saturday.
We got Kells singing the national anthem.
And I don't want to forget, you know, I'm going to try to,
I, it may not be, I'm going to try my best.
Maybe Donny Iris.
We got to get Donny up there.
Love it.
I heard absolutely.
That would be, we got to get Donny down, down by the moon.
For a draft.
A brand made by day.
Say that one more time.
Hey, come on, Brett.
You go get Donny.
Down him on for a draft.
Come on.
You coach.
Oh my god.
Are you kidding?
Nothing but a good time.
Getting to chat with Brett Michaels here.
Brett, we know you're on tour all summer after this.
So have a blast.
Have a lot of fun.
Tickets available at Brett Michaels.com.
And thank you so much for taking the time for us today.
Hey, we love you.
My brothers.
Thank you.
And here we go.
We're stillers.
Here we go.
We're going to rock.
I'll leave you with one last thing.
We, we're going to do some major parogi toss.
And so get ready.
Get Big Joe ready.
Because he, he's going to be on the cutoff lawn chair.
All right.
We're going to, we're all going to get the plow.
Let me read more debt.
Let me read more debt.
We're all going to get the throw.
Some parogi.
That big Joe.
Well, we will go tell Big Joe to make sure he shows up hungry
for the, for the parogi toss.
Brett, thank you so much for the time, man.
Have a blast next week.
You could.
Thank you, guys.
There he is.
Legendary front man, rock and roll star, Brett Michaels.
That's the way we start shows around here, right?
Tens of millions of records sold.
Tens of millions of tickets sold.
But nothing, nothing, you know, gets him, gets him fired up
like his picksparks dollars.
Got to love it, man.
Absolutely.
Little surprise, fantastic way to start the show here on a Friday.
And yeah, I got to imagine some of those stories from, from,
from back in the 70s and 80s and, whoo.
Oh, baby.
Those are, those are probably even better than maybe then some
of the, uh, the stories that we used to hear from Tunch and Wolf
and some of those guys about, about the Steelers at that time, period.
I wonder, I wonder who was wilder.
Hmm, that's an interesting one.
Uh, great stuff there, uh, from Brett Michaels to start off
this Friday show to really kind of kick off.
We are now under a week away from the first round of the draft
on the North Shore of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
With that being said, you know what it is.
It's a mock draft Friday here on the drive
we'll get into that, get rolling when we return
as we roll along Steelers Nation Radio on the Steelers Audio Network.
And now a word from our sponsor, Bud Light.
There's nothing better than the clean crisp.
There's nothing better than the clean crisp.
Uh, what if we just got out of here and grab some Bud Lights?
The man, we're on air for four more hours.
I'll figure it out.
Sounds good to me.
Anything for the clean, crisp taste of Bud Light.
Stock up now.
Bud Light.
Easy to drink, easy to enjoy.
Enjoy responsibly, copyright 2026,
and has a bush Bud Light beer St. Louis, Missouri.
I'm a 100% kind of guy.
So I got Verizon Fios.
It's 100% fiber internet because I do everything at 100%.
What game should we watch?
100% of them.
She hits a...
Emily kicked out of the park!
From clay town town for a...
Beautiful shot onto the green.
You either have 100% fiber internet or you don't.
Get Verizon Fios.
It's super fast and reliable with ultra low lag.
It's 100% or nothing.
Call 1-833 Verizon to switch today.
Go Teams!
You're tuned to the drive on your 24-7 home of the Black & Gold.
Steelers Nation Radio.
Music
Well, that's going to be a tough opening segment to beat in the...
I think I get a different mind frame.
In the history here, the...
Looks like with a left-guard situation.
You know, all right.
A little different.
In the anals right of the history of the drive.
Long after we're gone, Matt.
That's going to be a tough one for people to top.
Pretty cool.
Start to the show there with Brett Michael.
Man, he was fired up too.
And happy to be there.
And a huge steeler fan obviously.
A lot going on.
That was super cool.
That was awesome.
Thanks to Brian and Reagan and all the powers that help us set that one up.
And yeah, fun little treat there to start the show.
Pretty cool.
I mean, a rock and roll legend.
That's not an understatement or an overstatement.
Or anything like that.
That's a that's a factual statement.
And a fun way to start the show is now we transition back into like Matt said
talking about some left-guard here.
Something like that, right.
That's good value in the fourth round.
You know, but that's what we're here to do.
You know what?
Flip of switch.
I think Brett Michaels would enjoy the switch being flipped into some stiller conversation.
Yeah, it's talked draft.
So let's do it like we've been doing.
Let's mock it up here on this Friday.
And this might be the...
How many rounds?
I did seven just to have it as an option.
I'm not saying we have to go the distance.
Everyone do.
Let's see what we can get accomplished here in the rest of the hour maybe and go from there.
Yeah, let's just roll and see how it goes.
Fernando Mendoza first off the board to the Raiders.
No shocker there.
Sonny Styles goes second to the Jets in this mock.
David Bailey, third to the Cardinals.
I don't know if that would happen.
But again, he's going to...
They're not going to be there for it.
They're going to be going to talk to one either way.
You know, right?
And if that happens, I think Tennessee would be, you know, doing jumping jacks
and he'll kicks up to the podium to draft the R-Vell Reese,
which they do here at Pick 4.
The Giants take Jeremiah Love.
Interesting.
I don't know about that.
I mean, I know it's a new regime.
They did just do the high running back thing.
Pick thing not too long ago with Sequon.
Right.
But new regime, different decision makers and all that.
The Browns.
I think Dart would appreciate it though.
That's...
I mean, if you're making Dart's life easier.
I mean, it's not like it's a bad player.
It might be the best player in this draft.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Certainly.
But for our purposes, these top five or six
don't really matter.
We know who's going to go.
And yeah, pick six.
The Browns take Spencer Fanu.
First offense alignment off the board.
Wow.
I mean, I see the appeal.
Realistic, yeah.
Yeah, I see the appeal.
I mean, because they're lines...
I think we brought this up yesterday.
I mean, there's a chance he could start at five spots.
And that in itself is just an interchangeable chess piece.
It makes, it gives him a lot of value, not the mention
what he does on the field.
I think I said this to you last week or something.
I am not sure if Spencer Fanu is going to be great,
but he's he's going to be a good NFL player for a long time.
I bet he's going to ask that he's going to start a lot of wars.
And yeah, seven Caleb Downs goes to our nation's capital
and becomes a Washington commander.
I think they would really like a defensive playmaker like that.
Back to back.
Buck, I see her as Cardinal Tate goes pick eight to the Saints.
That leaves me.
I think they jump on that.
I think so.
Yeah, that's what I was good to get for them.
I think Kansas City might jump on this too.
Francis Maui-Noah at pick nine.
Yeah, exactly.
Offensive lineman out of the U at pick 10.
The Bengals for the second straight year.
Take an edge rusher in the first round.
They go Ruben Bain Jr.
Okay.
Eleven super quick.
I'm not saying Bain's a bad guy,
but there were stuff that came out recently
about his driving situation that we know.
And I find it interesting.
And I'm not saying these are bad teams either.
But chiefs it what nine.
Bengals at 10.
Yes.
Cowboys at 12.
Yes.
All could use Ruben Bain.
And all let's just say have a habit of overlooking things off the field.
Might might be happy that some of those reports came out
in the past week and maybe he evolved over these spots.
Interesting.
Interesting.
That's a fair point to make.
Yeah.
Some teams just abuse these things differently.
Number 11.
And I hate it.
But I actually kind of like it for this exercise.
Vengeu on a goes off the board.
Pick 11 to the dolphins.
Makes it more fun because we got to talk through.
Because now we've got to talk to something different.
He certainly seems
so slightly less than a week before the draft.
That's the guy that if he's there, we just take him no matter what.
You know, now we've never had to pick between like him and Fanu.
Right.
You know, that'd be an interesting conversation.
Maybe we'll have that conversation next week.
We'll do some would you rather's next week.
12.
The Cowboys take Mansour Delaigne corner out of LSU.
Okay.
13.
The Rams take McCuylem and wide receiver at a USC.
That's become pretty chalky and I totally understand.
Yeah.
14.
Jordan Tyson goes to Baltimore in this exercise.
Today's his workout.
Today is his workout.
So Adam Schefter put out.
I think his 14 or 16 teams are planning on attending.
Okay.
I had heard yesterday.
He's not going to run or jump though.
He's just going to run routes and do drills.
Interesting.
So no 40, no, no.
But maybe while we're on or certainly next week,
we'll get at least some feedback from it.
But I don't think we're going to get times.
Interesting.
Interesting.
That to me, that's a bit of a red flag.
But all these people that are in the nose
seem to think he's going higher and higher and higher now.
Maybe he will be on the board at pick 21.
I don't know.
15.
Auburn edd rusher goes to the bucks.
That's starting to become pretty chalky too.
That's what we want him to go.
Absolutely.
16.
Man, if I was a Jets fan, I'd sign in blood for this right now.
You get sunny styles.
It picked two and you take your mod.
McCoy.
I take McCoy right now.
Oh my goodness.
He's a little banged up.
You're in a prank.
You win it.
He's kind of red shirtish him.
Right, right.
And you know, have him on a snap count for him for this year
while he's recovering.
So again, we just kind of talked about the Tyson workout.
And again, I'm not a doctor.
But the fact that McCoy worked out once for half an hour or whatever
doesn't mean he's 100% out of the out of the woods
from a red flag medical distinction.
917 part of me.
Monroe Freeling goes to the Lions.
18 Kading Proctor goes to the Vikings.
19 Dylan Thenderman.
The safety from Oregon to the Carolina Panthers.
And pick 20.
The Cowboys take a keen messador edd rusher out of the U.
We want him to go too.
I don't care if you're like homeruns when they absolutely.
I feel like if messador is going to go in the first round,
that pick 20 to the Cowboys might be the landing spot.
Yeah, I see Tampa a lot as well.
I think they're seats a little warm.
That's a good call.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
That's a good call.
So pick 21.
The Steelers on the clock.
Ken Yon Sedeek still on the board.
Omar Cooper Jr.
Still on the board.
KC Conception on the board.
Denzel Boston on the board.
Kayla Blomu, a manual McNeil Warren.
Max E and H or
at this point.
I will listen to like Matt's is going to push for Max blah, blah, blah, blah.
Let's do something different though and take the receiver.
I think so.
Yeah, just for fun.
And to me, it comes down to Omar Cooper Jr.
or KC Conception.
Yeah.
And I feel like we don't use a case for both for the Steelers.
Same.
Yeah, yeah.
And I feel like we go Cooper Jr.
for two reasons.
One, because I feel like most of the time in these mocks,
we've taken Venga or KC in the sunshine band.
Everyone knows they're my crushes, you know, right?
And also reminder, we got to take a guy from Indiana at some point.
Oh, right, right, right.
Because Omar Khan three years every year is made.
Check that box right off the bat and be done, okay?
You good with going Omar Cooper Jr.
I am fine.
I'm people won't believe me.
But if the pick at 21s ends up being Cooper, I totally understand it.
I've given my seal approval on it.
Everyone knows I would take Max.
But I want to do something different here.
I would I could be easily convinced to take Max or KC here.
But I'm saying let's do something different.
Yeah, he's a big body good.
And another one who is certainly fit to build it.
It's a pretty strong wide receiver room.
Oh, absolutely.
Absolutely.
He also has played a meter fits in around here.
He blocks.
He plays hard, physical.
22, Emmanuel McNeil Warren goes off the board of the chargers.
23, Caleb Lomo to the Eagles.
The chiefs make a trade up a few picks with the browns.
They take Avion Terrell out of Clemson the corner.
Peer Woods goes 25 to Dub Bears.
Denzel Boston 26th to Buffalo.
Okay.
KC conception 27 to the Niners.
Well, now we want those guys to go, you know?
Yeah, true.
Kaden McDonald, 28th to the Houston Texans.
He's another one that I feel like might go in the first round.
Especially to Houston that to me, that's the landing spot
because he's not for everyone in terms of what teams value.
Everybody would love to have him run stuff.
I mean, like of course that has value.
But the way Houston's designed with their run and hit linebackers
and playing so much nickel, they need a space eater in the middle.
And frankly, that team, I don't know what to think about Stroud,
but I was so high on them when they came to Pittsburgh
in the playoffs that and they really don't have that many needs.
Yeah, I mean, the old line could use some work, but they've done,
they've revamped it.
They need Stroud to rediscover his form.
That's what they need.
I mean, they need a big guy on defense, a big guy on offense,
and they need Stroud to get back to where he could be.
But they could win the soup all next year.
Absolutely.
They have all the boxes checked in that regard.
29 because the Browns traded back a few picks with that chiefs trade.
They nab Chase Besontis at pick 29.
Get Browns.
A lot of heat that they could, he could be in the first round.
That's crazy.
Spongebob Besontis, man, wouldn't be the sexiest of picks for the Browns,
but it'd be two very effective, two very effective ones.
I was listening to a day and yesterday, and he was saying,
maybe as soon as like 22 to the chargers for Besontis.
I mean, they have a big guard need too.
Can you unsedeak 30 to the dolphins?
That's the, uh, the Broncos trade there.
I think he's a smidge overrated trade.
But man, you're thrilled to get that guy at 30.
If you're, yeah, yes, if 30, that's a great landing spot.
Zion Young 31 to the Patriots, the edge from Mizzou
and Brandon C. Say closes down the first round, the corner out of South Carolina.
I've done a lot of corner work the last two or three days.
Falling out with him a little bit.
I don't see it with that guy.
I mean, he's an athlete, but football wise.
Whoa, he scares me.
I don't like hearing that, but I do like seeing there's a lot more day two
corners that I like now, the more homework I've done.
But I've been a little late to that party.
Some of them are starting to come off the board here in round two.
Pick 33, the Falcons trade up here to Nab Colton hood corner out of Tennessee.
34, the Cardinals take Blake Miller at a Clemson.
I think no way he lasts up.
No way he lasts that long.
I think if this was C-N-R card's nation radio,
I think we'd say I would trade my second round pick for Blake Miller right now.
Oh, yeah, or trade up six spots and get up or whatever, right?
CJ Allen goes 35th to Georgia.
Okay, I guess his workout, his private workout went well.
Or to Georgia, part of me.
He's out of Georgia.
He goes to the Titans.
36, the dolphins on the clock here after trading up to Nab.
Chris Johnson, the corner out of San Diego State.
Another guy thinks we're going to go in the first round.
Check, I mentioned corners because I turned my corners and safeties in.
Yeah, yesterday.
He was my corner three.
I was looking over your email.
Yeah, okay.
Johnson three.
Yeah.
I mean, I think Delane and McCoy are way above everybody else.
Do you have Delane one?
I had Delane one.
If they were really tied, one played footballs, you're Neil and didn't.
That's right.
To me, that was my say.
Yeah, I'm with you on that.
Jacob Rodriguez goes 37 to the Giants.
Texans take Jadarian Price, the other Notre Dame running back at 38.
So he becomes second off the board.
I know they traded for Montgomery, but I would draft the running back high if I were them too.
They're running game.
I mean, you want to get shrouded back.
It's always they don't have many needs.
Second and eight for them.
Yeah, they don't have many needs.
Right, go get like not necessarily to the extent of a team like the Rams,
but it's like you should not be drafting for the nest.
You know, no, no, right.
You should be drafting for that cherry and whip cream that puts you over the top.
Yeah.
I mean, they they resigned will or extended will Anderson today,
who was drafted a spot behind Stroud.
And they have a huge decision what to do is strow.
They're going to pick up a fifth of your option,
but are you going to give them the bag or not?
Well, you want to give them the bag.
Let's give them a running game for once.
And if he bounces back in a big way this year,
giving them the bag now would pay off.
Yeah.
If not, and he bounces back, then you're going to end up
going a little yesterday's price is not today's price.
Exactly.
So I like drafting running back high for them.
Browns take Chris Bell, a wide receiver at a Louisville at 39.
I don't like how well this exercise is ended up for Cleveland.
I know.
That's a perfect spot, too, because if he's not ready,
he's not ready to find who cares.
We're not winning anything this year anyway.
He's really talented.
Gabe Acus.
Like I think I give you a 53 for Chris Bell right now.
I mean, not if they took Cooper one.
Not if we took it.
Yes.
And another exercise where you get Venga or somebody there.
I mean, on April 16th, you know,
Jeannie comes out of the bottle.
Will you give me bell for 53?
Especially if the Jeannie tells you you get an offensive line
and you like it picked 21.
Right.
But then you may have to draft another receiver too,
because I'm not sure week one.
He's ready to line up next.
The true true.
But boy, he could hit big.
Gabe Acus at 40 to the chiefs Christian Miller at 41 to the Bengals.
Malachai Lawrence.
By the way, it's Kristen.
The H is silent.
No, it's not Christian.
It's it's like the female name Kristen.
And that's how it's spelled.
But no one says it right.
Because you just buzz right over it.
That's good enough.
I'm not like correcting you because I've been doing that forever to
vernacular math.
I tell you right.
You can tell we're getting close to the date here.
We're finally learning all these guys.
I said I'm starting to get some names right.
Yeah.
42 Malachai Lawrence, who's rapidly.
I almost know how to say max's last name.
You know,
you're just one Lawrence.
Yenikur.
Yenikur.
Yeah, Malachai Lawrence at 42,
who's rapidly becoming not for the Steelers,
because they don't need any information.
But I think that this dude is going to be,
when we do the redrafts of this class,
four or five years from now,
he's going to go much higher than he'll end up going.
I agree.
Mad Max goes 43 to the Raiders.
Oh, I'd have been on the phone like crazy.
Yeah.
Get to 40 or whatever.
44 Ty Simpson goes to the Jets.
Would you have even entertained that?
If you were to tell me right now that we get into the 40s in
Mad Max and Ty Simpson or both on the board,
I would be I'd be in to trying to trade up a little bit to,
to Nab one of them.
I think I'd lean towards Mad Max,
but I would hate it.
I would have given up a lot to go get Matt.
Yeah.
If the Steelers move up six or seven spots to go get Ty Simpson
and it doesn't cost you much, sure.
Yeah.
I'd think about it.
Yeah.
I would definitely think about it.
I'm not saying I'd definitely do it.
Right.
Remember, like I said yesterday,
I have I have 10 quarterbacks already listed in my notes
for next year that I think could be legit possibilities
in the first or second round.
I need to say that because Dane was on Nate Tyson's podcast
and they finished it by,
well, we're both going to do a way too early mock draft like,
and they were going through quarterbacks.
The dude that transferred to the you this year
was somebody they were talking about.
Oh, yeah.
He was not in your team.
He was not on my 10.
So they're not like saying he's definitely a first rounder,
but he's in that mix too.
And then an Auburn guy, I think.
Auburn guy.
Yeah.
He was like a lot of ability,
but he's all over the place.
Georgia's quarterback should maybe be mentioned
and he wasn't in there.
So that gets like 13 or 12 or 13.
Yeah, that's nuts.
It is crazy.
Let's see here.
TJ Parker, 45th.
Ed Drescher had a Clemson to the Ravens.
Jennings Dunker, 46th to the box.
Let's stop with him for a quick second.
I did my guard rankings and I put him fifth.
And Dane and all these people I've been listening to are like,
man, people are falling in love with Dunker.
And I don't see it.
He's on the ground a lot.
He is heavy-footed and he's got some nastiest to him.
I get it and he's a tackle turn guard.
And some people have been like,
McCarty will probably love him because he's a tackle turn guard.
And like, I didn't.
If he doesn't have crazy red hair and doesn't look wild,
do we talking about him much differently?
You know what I mean?
Matt, you know how when I was a guy's hit,
I know that.
Sure, you know.
You know how when like music festival lineups come out,
there's like the big headliner, right?
Poison.
Poison.
And then there's and then there's a couple other names that are bigger.
Not as big as that, but bigger kind of like the second tier that's like
Donnie Iris, you know, Casey in the sunshine band.
And then there's the third tier that's like the finer print warm up acts that go on at like
one o'clock in the afternoon.
Yeah.
Venga is poison.
Venga is the headliner.
And then Rutledge and Pregnant and Besontis are the pretty good real strong tier two.
And then Dunker's the smaller print to make like I had a first name on the smaller print,
but he's a smaller print.
Like I didn't love putting him.
If you do the way it looks,
as there's a top five list, one's not like the other for me.
You know, he was my fifth, but agreed.
I'd like to see him go elsewhere.
Josiah Trotter, 47 to the Colts.
Jeremy Bernard, 48 to the Jets after that was the trade where the Falcons moved up
to the start of the second round.
I mean, if we were to take in Max in the first round,
I'd gladly to move up five spots to get Bernard.
Absolutely.
Yeah.
49 trade-and-stukes.
Oh, now would have been appealing.
If you'll notice though, we get to pick fifth, we get two pick 50 and Pregnant goes here.
Okay.
But Besontis was a first rounder.
So it was Venga, but at pick 49,
you know, until you got to pick 50, both Pregnant and Rutledge were both still on the board.
Yeah, I was kind of paying attention to that too.
Like I know trading up.
So if I'm looking at it and I'm like, I got my wide receiver,
there's still a lot of good guards I like on the board here.
I'm not trading up.
One of these guys is going to fall to me.
I just, you know.
Yeah, yeah.
Now, again, I'll, I'm, people we stick here and it,
but 10 picks ago, I'd have given you anything you wanted to go get Max.
That's fine.
I'll give you 53 and a third and a fourth, you know, whatever.
I'm good.
I'm good with that too.
But I'm assuming he's gone.
I don't think he'll last that long anyway.
I think that's kind of hypothetical.
But with those two guards on the board,
it's kind of like when Zach Frazier was on the board.
You just kind of hold your water.
Hold your water, you know,
don't blink.
Yeah, keep your fingers crossed.
Don't blink, baby.
So Pregnant goes 50 to the lion.
So the lions get freeing and Pregnant.
Wow.
To rebuild that happens to move, yeah.
Cashiest how the edge out of A&M goes 51 to Carolina.
And 52, a guy that I really like
and would have maybe brought to the forefront here
if he was still available.
The Jags actually trade up to 52
to take Lee Hunter, the defensive lineman at a Texas tech.
Okay.
So that means Rutledge is still there.
That means Rutledge is still there.
That means Caleb Banks is still there.
Kionte Scott, Anthony Hill Jr.
Chris Brasel is still there.
So there's some Ted Hurst is still there.
I like all those dudes.
I like all those dudes.
We took a receiver.
We took a receiver.
We go.
I think we held our water.
We waited it out.
We got someone that we were very happy to get a 53.
Agreed.
Agreed.
So the big nasty Keeling Rutledge out of Georgia tech
is our second round pick.
First round, Omar Cooper Jr.
our national champion wide receiver
out of Indiana.
Second round, Rutledge, the bad ass from Georgia Tech
who Steelers fans would love watching him run block.
That is for sure.
Really popular.
Him and Mason McCormick might be able to run for office
and Pittsburgh eventually.
Part of me says to do this and part of me says not to.
But listeners, if you go highlight or just go watch his highlights,
you're going to fall in love with him.
And you're going to want to be a Steeler.
And I tell you not to do it because if he's not a Steeler,
you're going to be back.
Oh, man.
But like is is even if you're not into O-line play,
which can be a little nerdy.
Don't give me wrong.
That's about as fun of a college guard tape as you will watch.
I love it.
Yeah.
I love it.
So I liked how this is played out.
We held our water.
I think we got two good players at two position of needs.
Didn't give anything extra up.
You know, we're still sitting with a lot of resources.
Let's get into the third round when we return
to close down the first hour of today's program.
What's Mueller, Matt Williamson?
It is the drive Steelers Nation radio
on the Steelers Audio Network.
And now a word from our sponsor, Bud Light.
There's nothing better than the clean crisp.
There's nothing better than the clean crisp.
What if we just got out of here and grab some Bud Lights?
The man, we're on air for four more hours.
I'll figure it out.
Sounds good to me.
Anything for the clean crisp taste of Bud Light.
Stock up now.
Bud Light.
Easy to drink.
Easy to enjoy.
Enjoy responsibly.

And has a bush Bud Light beer St. Louis, Missouri.
I'm a 100% kind of guy.
So I got Verizon Fios.
It's 100% fiber internet.
Because I do everything at 100%.
What game should we watch?
100% of them.
She hits a...
Emily kick out of the park!
From clay downtown for eight.
Beautiful shot under the green.
You either have 100% fiber internet or you don't.
Get Verizon Fios.
It's super fast and reliable with ultra low lag.
It's 100% or nothing.
Call 1-833 Verizon to switch today.
Go, teams!
You're tuned to the drive on your 24-7 home of the Black & Gold.
Steelers Nation Radio.
Closing down the first hour of the program here.
Having some fun on a Friday.
Kicked things off with legendary front man, Brett Michaels.
That was really fun.
That was a lot of fun.
And I meant to tell you this when we went to break.
You and TV kind of ahead of time
where TV had mentioned how he grew up in the perfect time.
He's a teenager right?
The Steelers are winning four Super Bowls.
And then you, I thought for you and I who both
tend to admit we don't think we're the best interviewers.
We're not great question-askers.
Dude, that was a perfect question.
You asked him right off the jump.
Just about his childhood in the Steelers.
And I thought about like if I was born 10 years earlier.
That was a perfect question by you to start.
My formative years would have been like
when they were starting to get good.
Like Brett Michaels is...
He's a personality.
He's a front man.
He...
I don't think was going to be shy during our conversation.
Regardless.
I'm really shy with anybody.
But that first question that you asked him
definitely set the tone and set up perfectly.
So that was well done by you.
So at 53 we left you with the Steelers
taking Keel and Rotlidge the guard out of Georgia Tech
after nabbing national champion wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr.
at 21.
Speaking of national champions,
DeAngelo Ponds goes off the board 54 to the Eagles.
Kayla Banks finally goes off the board 55 to the Chargers.
This is an interesting one.
The Packers move up a few spots in the draft
who take Max Claire, the tight end out of Ohio State.
Wow.
Some of these Claire's are some of these tight ends
are starting to get a lot of attention.
And they already have one of the best
in the NFL in Green Bay.
But he is coming off of a major,
major leg injury and hey,
you can never have too much talent.
Derek Moore at 57 to the Bears.
Caleb Tiernan at 58 to the Niners.
Chris Brazel goes off the board 59 to Houston.
Antonio Williams, the wider receiver from Clemson
to Chicago. Kyle Lewis, the pit guy goes at pick 61 to the Rams.
Another tight end Eli Stowers to the Broncos at 62.
Ted Hurst does get into the second round.
Pick 63 to the Patriots.
I would hate that.
Yeah.
And the Seattle Seahawks identify there running back
in Mike Washington Jr.
at Arkansas to close down the second round.
That's the right place to take him.
We don't have tons of time.
Should we just make the three-stealer third round?
Yeah, absolutely.
I'm just going to rattle the names.
All right, I won't respond.
Kionte Scott, Zachariah Branch, Eliza Syrat, Joshua Joseph,
Jake Golliday, AJ Howesley, Sam Hecht,
Will Lee III, Malik Muhammad, Dejonce Rebling,
and our Mason Thomas all go before the Steelers are on the board at pick 76.
Best available, Anthony Hill Jr.
Keith Abney, the second.
I'm intrigued by him.
Big citrus Dominique Orange, Skyler Bell,
the wide receiver out of Yukon.
Bryce Lance, wide receiver out of North Dakota state.
Genesis Smith is still on the board.
Kamari Ramsey is still on the board.
Jalen Kilgore and Zaki Wheatley
all still on the board.
Bud Clark, still on the board.
And every quarterback, obviously,
Joe Dosa and Simpson.
So I like Matt.
I thought three names were interesting to me.
I was going to say I like taking a safety here in the third round,
but I think we can wait.
There's a lot of really good words.
If you get Bud Clark and a couple picks, I would just do that.
So I'm with you.
First couple of names, Anthony Hill Jr.
Keith Abney, the second and big citrus Dominique Orange.
I'd probably go citrus or hill.
That's what I'm thinking too.
As much as I like Abney,
I like Abney, but he's not a need.
That's a thing.
I'm not sure it'll allow for him to really make an impact.
And so then I'm thinking Hill or citrus.
And I'm like, which one is going to help me the most day one?
And I think it's probably Dominique Orange,
because Anthony Hill Jr.
is with Peyton Wilson and Patrick Queen in front of him.
I'm going to take him a little time to carve out a role,
where I think big citrus could earn a few snaps pretty quickly.
I would probably counter that though and say,
I bet I would have a higher grade on Hill than Orange.
I would. That's the only thing.
And so maybe I'm kind of doing the thing that I always say not to do.
Just take the best player here.
I think that's Hill.
I think it is. Maybe he's convinced me.
And you know what, I like both.
We'll play some of this audio next week
because it happened right before we went on air today.
But Brian Angelico and Patrick Graham both spoke.
I heard that. Okay. No, no.
New coordinators spoke this afternoon.
And one of the things that Patrick Graham said
that we'll talk about next week is that he wants to,
like they're going to play a lot of 2 4 5.
So to down defensive lineman 4 linebackers and 5 defensive back.
That means he's counting Watten Highs.
He's counting Watten Highs with his linebackers.
That doesn't mean 4 off ball linebackers right, right.
But in that, in that saying that that would include two offball linebackers on the field,
the most of the time in his vision.
So you are going to need a quality third option there.
Certainly.
We need to groom somebody.
Let's take Anthony Hill.
I'm fine with that.
I'm good.
I think we'll have an opportunity still to add to the defensive line and to the safety
room.
And we will.
Skyler Bell goes off the board right after us.
Kamari Ramsey, David Engbenosson, the corner from Ohio State and Keith Abney go back
to back.
He turns up in Baltimore at pick 80, Genesis Smith at 81, Connor Lou, Bryce Lance, Logan
Jones, the center out of Iowa goes to the Cardinals at 84 back on the clock at 85, Big
Citrus still there.
I think you take him.
Right.
Same because I'm going to say let's take Big Citrus here and then let's get our safety
at 99.
Hopefully.
I think there's a couple of names still out there.
Yes.
Yes.
But I think there's probably a drop off afterwards.
I am with you on that.
So let's nab him.
That's a perfect scenario.
Both of the guys that we considered good.
And then 86 Danny Dennis Sutton, the edge from Penn State goes to the chargers Malachi
Fields to the dolphins, Jacobi Lane to the Jags.
Jalen Kilgore goes off the board.
Oh no.
But Clark goes off the board.
Wow.
Zaki Wheatley goes off the board.
Wow.
Okay.
Man, I run on safety's right before we get to pick at 99.
So who are some best available regardless?
It's just all in general.
Because yeah, the safety's man.
This was almost falling perfectly for us.
It was going a little too well.
Grayson Houghton, Ramello Height, Q Ron Cofford.
You know what?
Garrett Nussmeyer is still there.
Darryl Jackson Jr.
Deon Berks, Chandler Rivers, Chandler Rivers a good slot, but what Johnson, what's pure
safeties?
Not a lot of options here.
Michael Taff, Fiatta, Texas, VJ Payne out of Kansas State, Jaden Canadae out of Oregon,
Lewis Moore out of Indiana, but we can probably wait on it.
Yeah.
VJ Payne's really interesting.
I mean, he's six, three ridiculous tester.
I actually did a blurb on him on my safety right up that really adapt at taking away tight
ends.
He's one of those razz guys.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Some people think he could even be an outside corner.
Some people even think you put 20 pounds on him and he's your nickel linebacker.
And I think this coaching staff, I don't know what Patrick Graham said today other than
what you said, is going to look for more matchup pieces.
And I think week to week, he might be a matchup piece for you while he learns deep safety
stuff.
Sure.
I wouldn't have a problem with him and it had been to be awesome on special teams.
Many interest in Deon Burke's Brennan Thompson, we're going to draft another wide receiver
at some point.
Kevin Coleman, Kendrick Law, any of those guys do it for you right now.
Cyrus Allen.
Still too early.
Not after going to first round pick there.
Okay.
I don't know.
I mean, that's not a bad group.
So I feel like we take a, I mean, we could make the argument for a quarterback right here
certainly.
Is there any tackles offensive or defensive offensive?
Is there bell or Mark Calbell is still on the board?
Oh, I think I'd go that the right.
Oh, man.
I missed him.
Yeah.
Burke is gone.
The bell is still there.
We took your guard.
You want to do that?
I think that's the move.
I think there's a last chance to get one chance of VJ last until our next pack.
Yeah.
Or some other defensive back or, you know, I mean, you're not going to get a tackle on day
three.
I love it.
Let's do it.
Lock it in to close down our third round and to close down the first hour of this show
will take Mark Calbell, the tackle out of Miami.
So I like how this is played out for us, Matt.
Maybe we do one more segment here on the other side kind of round this out.
And then we will get to your YouTube and your ex Twitter questions, comments, concerns
and reactions.
Halfway home on the drive, Steelers Nation Radio on the Steelers Audio Network.
How hard could it be?
My wife wants one of those resort showers.
You won't believe what they want to charge just for tile.
And you're doing it all by yourself.
It can't be that hard.
Did you mean to install that waterfall shower in your living room?
Technically, it's an open concept.
Yep.
You might want to rethink that.

DIY major renovations.
Not so much.
