Hutson Breaks Defenseman Assist Record

118th career assist during a 4-3 loss to the Anaheim Ducks on Sunday. That mark set a new record

for defensemen through their first 150 games, topping Hall of Famer Sergei Zubov's 115.

Hudson reached 116 assists in his 147 game last week against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

He added number 117 the next night, versus the Ottawa Senators, then went pointless against the

San Jose Sharks on Saturday before, breaking the record against Anaheim. The assist came early

in the second period when Hudson set up Alex Newhook for a one-timer that cut Anaheim's lead to

2-1 and sparked a brief. Canadian's rally. Fans saw it as bittersweet though, with Hudson later

losing coverage on the game-winning goal by Cutter Gauthier and mishandling the puck late in

a chance to tie. The Canadians have now lost two straight, sitting at 36 wins, 20 losses,

and 10 overtime losses. Hudson earned praise for the milestone, but Jews'

and criticism for defensive lapses in the defeat. This season, the rookie has 11 goals,

and 56 assists for 67 points in 66 games, tying him for third among defensemen behind.
