0:36
Demonstrators hit the streets in LA with some denouncing,
0:39
and others celebrating the strikes in Iran.
0:42
We've been waiting for this moment for 47 years.
0:48
But California lawmakers say the president needs to be reigned in.
0:52
He has not made the case to Congress.
0:54
He's sought no authorization.
0:55
And the LA Unified School Board returns to closed door meetings over the fate of superintendent Alberto Carvalo.
1:07
It's Monday, March 2nd.
1:08
I'm Adolfo Luis Manlópez, I'm Boston Cross.
1:11
And this is the LA Report from LA News.
1:16
Nationwide demonstrations are scheduled today against the U.S. led attacks on Iran.
1:21
In Southern California, they're set to take place at LA City Hall, the Cesar Chavez Memorial
1:27
in Riverside, the Reagan Federal Building in Santa Ana and the Ventura Government Center.
1:32
But yesterday, in Westwood, thousands of LA area Iranians hit the streets
1:36
to show support for the strikes and celebrate the death of Iran's Theocratic leader.
1:41
Our media partner CBS LA spoke to one of the unnamed demonstrators.
1:45
We've been waiting for this moment for 47 years.
1:50
And finally, there is a president in the office to actually listen and did something about it.
1:57
Despite their joys, some acknowledge there's still uncertainty as to who will assume leadership in Iran.
2:03
Meanwhile, California elected leaders are reacting to the strikes.
2:06
LA Representative Jimmy Gomez says Congress must assert its authority and bring the war power's
2:12
resolution to the House floor. U.S. Senator Adam Schiff tells CNN that President Trump made the
2:17
wrong decision. He has not made the case to the American people. He has not made the case to
2:22
Congress. He sought no authorization. And he hasn't made the case because there was no
2:27
imminent threat from Iran. They were not in the process of rebuilding their nuclear program or
2:32
building a bomb. Congressmember Darrell Issa supports the strikes as does inland empire Congress
2:38
member Ken Calvert, who says they're necessary to count Iran's nuclear ambitions.
2:44
The LA unified school board returns to closed-door meetings this morning over superintendent Alberto
2:49
Carvalo's employment. He's currently on paid leave following FBI raids on his home and office.
2:55
Carvalo just handed new for your contract. Because of that, Loyola laws Jessica Levinson
3:01
tells our media partner CBSLA that it would be a challenge to fire him right now.
3:05
At this point, prior to any sort of case being filed, obviously,
3:11
prior to any guilty plea or conviction, then you're in a place where you're trying to show that
3:17
there's malfeasance, but you don't have the criminal justice system to essentially back you up.
3:22
If Carvalo is fired without cause, he'd still be owed his full $440,000 annual salary.
3:29
Coming up, why nurses in Burbank are hitting the picket lines. Plus,
3:33
and the actor goes to
3:37
The big upset win at last night's actor awards stick around.
3:43

3:46
Californians are in an insurance affordability crisis. More than one in five California
3:51
homeowners are uninsured because of canceled policies and unaffordable premiums.
3:56
Enviro Voters believes that Californians deserve accessible home insurance with affordable rates.

4:47
Nurses at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank are set to hit the picket lines this
4:52
morning for a five day strike union leaders. Say the nurses have been bargaining for a new
4:56
contract in September. They say they're negotiating for increased levels of staffing
5:01
and to protect their health benefits. Providence, as it has bargained in good faith,
5:06
it's bringing in nurses from an outside agency to make sure operations are not interrupted.
5:12
And the actor goes to...
5:20
Sinners took home the top prize at the actor awards last night, formerly known as a SAG awards.
5:26
It won Best Ensemble and Best Actor for Michael B. Jordan, Hamnet, Actress, Jesse Buckley,
5:31

5:37
