Jes Staley And The Transcripts From His Epstein Related Trip To Congress (Part 11) (9/5/26)

About this episode

The transcripts from Jes Staley’s July 24, 2026 interview with the House Oversight Committee revealed just how deep and personal his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein became, while also exposing contradictions in the way Staley had described that relationship publicly. Staley acknowledged visiting Epstein’s Manhattan townhouse dozens of times, traveling to Little St. James on multiple occasions and exchanging roughly 1,200 communications with Epstein between 2008 and 2012. He admitted that he had shared confidential and potentially market-sensitive JPMorgan information with Epstein, including details about the bank’s business, client relationships, pending transactions and even communications involving the Federal Reserve during the 2008 financial crisis. Staley also told investigators that he had discussed his own compensation with Epstein and sought his advice, despite previously portraying Epstein as having little or no connection to his professional life after the 2008 conviction. He further acknowledged having a sexual encounter with one of Epstein’s assistants after meeting her through Epstein, while insisting that Epstein did not arrange it and that he had no knowledge that the woman had later accused Epstein of abuse.

The committee also pressed Staley on some of the strangest and most troubling material in his correspondence with Epstein, including the notorious “Snow White” emails and other references to Disney characters. Staley denied having sex with a woman dressed as Snow White and said he could not explain the meaning of some of the messages, even when investigators confronted him with contemporaneous emails and photographs. He maintained that he did not know Epstein was continuing to abuse girls after his 2008 conviction, calling that revelation “incredible,” yet the transcripts also showed that Staley personally argued for JPMorgan to keep Epstein as a client even as internal concerns about Epstein’s cash withdrawals and potential trafficking activity were mounting. Staley also said he had spoken with Jamie Dimon about Epstein, something Dimon and JPMorgan have disputed. Taken together, the testimony painted a picture of a relationship that was far closer, more intertwined with Staley’s professional life and more difficult to reconcile with his earlier descriptions than he had previously acknowledged.

What's up everyone and welcome to another episode of the Epstein Chronicles. In this episode we're going to pick up where we left off, with Jess Staley and the transcript from his trip to Congress. Question, could I just follow up really quickly? You said he deserved it. But then in a previous email we have looked at you also said, from what I see, it's so unfair. Do you know what you were referring to there? Sullivan jumps in. Look at the email please. In page 8 of the first exhibit I introduced the packet, the last page. Answer so this is not 2011. We're talking about 2008 now. Question yes. Answer so three years before. Question two years before I believe we were talking 2010. Answer okay sorry two years before. This is one I guess he was going to jail right? Question he had already been there for about three months I believe at the time. Answer thank you. Yeah. I don't know what happened on that day why that day was particularly tough.

Question do you believe you were saying it's unfair that he was serving time? Answer I don't recall if I was referring to that. Question Mr. Staley do you believe Mr. Epstein's guilty plea is supported by the merits by the facts? Answer he pleaded guilty. Question that's not my question sir. Do you believe that it's supported by the facts? Answer I have no reason to say it wouldn't be. Question okay. Mr. Staley. I'd like to ask you some questions about your time at JP Morgan. Before I do a quick point of clarification you just heard at me when you said that I read a list of names of referrals that was not me. That was my colleague on the majority who was also a woman with brown hair. Answer sorry. Question you were ahead of JP Morgan's private bank from 1999 to 2001 correct answer correct. Answer I and when you were promoted to CEO of JP Morgan's asset management division in 2001 correct answer correct. Question and you ran JP Morgan's asset management division until 2009 at which point you were

appointed as CEO of the investment banking division correct answer correct. Question and you left JP Morgan in early 2013 correct answer correct. Question is it accurate to say during the time that you were at the company that in addition to banking services JP Morgan private bank offered clients customized lending services investment advice portfolio management and wealth planning answer yes question are there other services that the private bank offered that I've left out answer can you read that again question other than banking services customized lending services investment advice portfolio management and wealth planning answer that and I would add things like custody was brokerage in there question brokerage was not in there answer so I would include brokerage. So those are the two that I would add question thank you. Is it also accurate to say that JP Morgan's private bank would have worked in conjunction

with the asset management division and offering some of those services answer yes question when you were head of the private bank who did your report to answer I think it changed over time but ultimately I reported to Jamie Diamond question so when you were the head of the private bank you reported to the CEO directly there wasn't someone in between you answer yeah I think it was initially Sandy Warner then I believe it was Bill Harrison and then I believe it was Jamie Diamond question and when you became CEO of asset management did the head of the private bank then report to you answer yes question and when you were CEO of asset management you continued to report to the CEO answer yes question and when you were CEO of investment banking the same was true you reported directly to the CEO answer yes question I'd like to ask you a few high level questions about JP Morgan's due diligence reports first what is the due diligence report answer it's a report the bank has studied

a certain topic and has done its due diligence whether it's no your client whether it's AML anti money laundering there are activities that do diligence report might be part of question what action would trigger the creation of a due diligence report answer I don't know specifically question do you know what action would trigger an update answer I mean opening an account extending alone I think those activities would trigger a due diligence report question okay so opening an account triggers a due diligence report in the context of the accounts excuse me in the context of an an account what would trigger an update to a due diligence report answer change in assets change in direction of the account any concern that the bank might have about the account or the holder of the account that sort of thing question who would typically create an update or due diligence report answer again I would think someone in risk someone in compliance someone in legal that type of thing question would do diligence

reports be shared with individuals in the private bank or the asset management division answer sure question would anyone at JP Morgan need to sign off on a due diligence report answer I imagine someone in risk or credit or compliance yeah we need to sign off on a due diligence report question could it be someone in the private bank or the asset management division answer well there were people in asset management and the private bank that were part of compliance part of legal part of risk so in that sense yes question got it okay I'd like to get a better sense of mr. Epstein's relationship with JP Morgan mr. Epstein became a JP Morgan client in 1998 correct answer that's my understanding question and he was still a JP Morgan client until 2013 correct answer that's my understanding yes question we understand that mr. Epstein had personal accounts and business accounts at JP Morgan is that correct answer I believe so question we also understand that mr. Epstein

set up JP Morgan accounts for his staff is that correct answer I was not aware of that but very possible I was not involved in his account so question we also understand that mr. Epstein set up a JP Morgan account for women that he was connected to are you aware of that answer no question who at JP Morgan was responsible for servicing mr. Epstein's accounts answer he had a banking team that I think was led by a gentleman by the name of Paul Morris question do you remember who else was on the team answer no question what about Justin Nelson who you referred to earlier answer yeah I think he was earlier then I think it was Paul Morris that's my recollection question anyone else answer that's all I recall question what would Paul Barrett's role have been in servicing mr. Epstein's accounts answer I don't know who Paul Barrett is mr. Sullivan do you mean Morris are you thinking Morris question that's my mistake thank you what was Paul Morris's role in servicing mr. Epstein's

accounts answer I think he was lead banker for Jeffrey Epstein's accounts question and you said Justin Nelson came before Paul Morris is that right answer yeah again I'm not sure question was he also lead banker in servicing mr. Epstein's accounts answer I believe at one point he was yes question and you said you don't know who Paul Barrett is is that correct answer that's correct question what about Marcus Sheridan answer Mark Sheridan I recognize the name question but would you know you don't know what the role would have been answer it was a long time ago question what about Mary Casey answer I think Mary Casey ran one of the banking groups for which Paul Morris was one of the bankers we were divided by geography so I wonder I think Mary Casey ran one of the geographic groups that included Epstein's account question what about Lisa Waters answer my recollection is that Lisa was in compliance but I'm not sure question when did you first learn that J.P. Morgan had

concerned with mr. Epstein's accounts answer I think there were concerns in 2008 2006 2008 question 2006 or 2008 is when you first learn that J.P. Morgan had concerns with Epstein's accounts answer well there was a rapid response meeting and there was you can line it up with the date and I think it was 2006 question do you remember who's concerned that was answer he was he was indicted question in 2003 vanity fair published an article on mr. Epstein titled the talent in Mr. Epstein it included the following lines quote one young woman recalls being summoned the bike lane Maxwell to a concert at Epstein's house where the woman seemed to add number of the men by far these were not women you'd see at Upper East Side dinners the woman recalls many seem foreign and dressed a little bizarrely the same guest also attended a cocktail party thrown by Maxwell that Prince Andrew attended which was filled she says with young Russian models some of the

guests were horrified the woman says do you remember this article being published answer no question I would think that vanity fair piece on a client and a friend would be memorable no answer I mean you're asking whether I remember the article now I may have recognized the article then question do you know if any one at J.P. Morgan was aware of that article answer I don't know mr. Sullivan excuse me is this oh three you said predicted I'm sorry mr. Sullivan Sullivan 2003 answer correct question I would like to introduce as minority exhibit M an email between two J.P. Morgan employees Mary wreath whose later Mary Casey and Paul Leihiff dated May 21 2003 the bait's number is EFTA 02 810792 question in the email Ms. Raith tells mr. Leheath that she just got the due diligence report on one of mr. Epstein's companies and notes that she quote was waiting to pull everything together before

sending down the vanity fair article why do you think that these J.P. Morgan employees were tracking the vanity fair article in the context of a due diligence report answer well I'd like to read the vanity fair article this was 23 years ago no 24 years ago if there was something negative in that article then you know the bank would want to review it and review the account to make sure that they're comfortable with the client question to J.P. Morgan suspect mr. Epstein was engaging in sex trafficking as early as 2003 answer I don't know I would doubt it but I don't know question you would doubt it answer I'm not going to speculate question I would like to introduce as minority exhibit N a due diligence report for checking account that mr. Epstein asked J.P. Morgan to set up for an unknown woman in 2004 question the due diligence report does not list the data birth for this woman and notes that no government documentation has been provided the report also states that

the social security given could not be confirmed as belonging to the woman the report acknowledges that no one at J.P. Morgan actually met with this woman and that all the information about her provided by one of mr. Epstein's advisors a man named Eric Ganey finally the report notes that the woman is in the US for a modeling work and states quote Jeffrey Epstein knows the model personally Epstein's a long-standing client of J.P.M. PB the report also quotes Jeffrey Epstein often provides support to emerging models in this case redacted has arrived from the Slovak Republic and Epstein asks us the favor of opening a checking account for would you agree that there are a number of indicators of sex trafficking here answer I think the bank should not be opening an account without doing proper due due diligence question what would proper due diligence have looked like here answer knowing who the client is KYC AML anti-money laundering knowing where the client's origination of wealth comes from all sorts of issues but if you have an invalid social

security number that would be a red flag question would you agree would you agree that opening this account strike that did you ever see this due diligence report answer no question where its contents communicated to you answer no question would you agree that opening this account without the information we discussed was a significant failure on J.P. Morgan's part answer it seems non-compliant yes all right folks we're gonna wrap up right here and in the next episode dealing with the topic we're gonna pick up with that same year 2004 all the information that goes with this episode can be found in the description box
