Jes Staley And The Transcripts From His Epstein Related Trip To Congress (Part 13) (9/7/26)

About this episode

The transcripts from Jes Staley’s July 24, 2026 interview with the House Oversight Committee revealed just how deep and personal his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein became, while also exposing contradictions in the way Staley had described that relationship publicly. Staley acknowledged visiting Epstein’s Manhattan townhouse dozens of times, traveling to Little St. James on multiple occasions and exchanging roughly 1,200 communications with Epstein between 2008 and 2012. He admitted that he had shared confidential and potentially market-sensitive JPMorgan information with Epstein, including details about the bank’s business, client relationships, pending transactions and even communications involving the Federal Reserve during the 2008 financial crisis. Staley also told investigators that he had discussed his own compensation with Epstein and sought his advice, despite previously portraying Epstein as having little or no connection to his professional life after the 2008 conviction. He further acknowledged having a sexual encounter with one of Epstein’s assistants after meeting her through Epstein, while insisting that Epstein did not arrange it and that he had no knowledge that the woman had later accused Epstein of abuse.

The committee also pressed Staley on some of the strangest and most troubling material in his correspondence with Epstein, including the notorious “Snow White” emails and other references to Disney characters. Staley denied having sex with a woman dressed as Snow White and said he could not explain the meaning of some of the messages, even when investigators confronted him with contemporaneous emails and photographs. He maintained that he did not know Epstein was continuing to abuse girls after his 2008 conviction, calling that revelation “incredible,” yet the transcripts also showed that Staley personally argued for JPMorgan to keep Epstein as a client even as internal concerns about Epstein’s cash withdrawals and potential trafficking activity were mounting. Staley also said he had spoken with Jamie Dimon about Epstein, something Dimon and JPMorgan have disputed. Taken together, the testimony painted a picture of a relationship that was far closer, more intertwined with Staley’s professional life and more difficult to reconcile with his earlier descriptions than he had previously acknowledged.

What's up everyone and welcome to another episode of the Epstein Chronicles. In this episode we're picking up, where he left off with Jess Staley and his conversation with Congress. Question sure, but here you're saying, or rather, here to employees who are talking about how you want JP Morgan to keep Jeffrey Epstein's accounts in July of 2008. So shortly after he started serving as sentence. And those cash accounts are the things that are allowing him to facilitate this extravoking. Answer yeah, I was saying allowed to keep well because you're making the implication that I knew the continuum. All I was suggesting was that to keep his checking account, I was not aware of the cash payments and what he was doing with that amount of cash. Question so to be clear, your testimony is

that you had no awareness of the cash payments in July of 2008. Answer again. I don't know the exact timing when I learned about the cash. Question right, but the timing is relevant because you were advocating for JP Morgan to keep his cash accounts. Answer to keep his checking account. Question correct, thank you. So you were aware of the significant cash withdrawals in July of 2008. Answer, I'm saying I don't know exactly what the date I became aware of it was. Questions so you may have been aware of them. Then and still may have been advocating for JP Morgan to keep his accounts. Answer I may or may not have. Now we have Ms. Stansbury asking the questions. Hello, Staley, hello, question has been a long day. My questions are a little more narrative and broadened scope than the specificity of interactions trying to really piece together some of the stories in timeline. But my opening question is really, I'm curious about your relationship with Epstein's trust.

Staley, his trust, Stanberry, his trust. Are you affiliated with any trust currently or have you been over the past 10 years? Staley currently know and at the time of Stan's Berry or I'm sorry since 2019 since he died. Staley, I believe that there was a time when I was a signator where I signed as either an executor or a trustee to his trust. Stan's Berry and is that his personal estate trust? Answer I believe it was, question okay. And so you were one of the three executors of that trust. Staley at one point in time, question okay. Answer but then I declined it. So I declined it and ultimately was not and I'm not an executor or trustee nor have I ever received compensation as such. Questions so that's my next question. Have you ever received compensation from his estate since 2019? Answer no. Question okay. Going back to questions about JP Morgan and just to reiterate so JP Morgan began

into relationship with Mr. Epstein several years before you took over that account correct? Answer yes, question okay. And just trying to understand your management of Mr. Epstein's account. I understand that you were an executive as opposed to kind of a day-to-day account manager. So what was the nature of your management of that relationship or what did it until? Answer I was introduced to JP Morgan by or to Jeffrey Epstein by then CEO of JP Morgan with the idea that Jeffrey had a network of ultra high net worth individuals, particularly in New York that might benefit the private bank. So it was around those contacts and we went through a list of wealthy influential people that he introduced us to. Question do you not oversee or manage in any way the transactions of Epstein's personal business accounts? Answer no. Question did you ever have any knowledge of how those accounts were being financially managed? The source of the wealth, how the wealth was being moved? Answer no. I always had a question about how his wealth came from.

The only thing I was aware of was that he had a close relationship with less Wexner. Question and so your management of the relationship with Epstein was more of a kind of glad handling business management, client management, kind of relationship, is that what you would say? Or how would you describe it? Answer just knowing or having a relationship with a client of the private bank who had an incredible network and was willing to share that network with the bank. And then as I said earlier, he was instrumental in a very important transaction for JP Morgan and for my career in about 2004. Question what transaction was that? Answer which is the acquisition of hybrid capital corporation. Question okay, answer so Morgan was a traditional asset management firm back then tradition asset managers like Fidelity and Capital would not mix with alternative asset managers. And this was really the first time in the industry that that happened and it changed dramatically the trajectory of Morgan's asset management business. Stan's Berry okay and in terms of your relationship,

I mean whether it was personal or not personal, whether it was a business, you did travel to Mr. Epstein's island on several occasions correct? Staley, I went there once with my family, I stopped there once for a couple of hours for a lunch and then I translated from I used his island as a transit to St Thomas on a helicopter. Stan's Berry and was Mr. Epstein present during any of these visits? Staley so in terms of the visit per se, I would say only once. Stan's Berry okay, sorry, was Mr. Epstein present during those visits? Staley during the visit with my family, yes, he was there. And when we stopped by for lunch, he was there. Question and you visited Mr. Epstein's townhouse a number of times correct answer correct. Question did you ever attend any social functions at his house that might be characterized as parties or dinners or anything like that? Staley, lunches or dinners, yes, parties? I wouldn't characterize them as parties. Question did you ever witness any women? They're in a social capacity during your time at the island or at the townhouse in New York?

Staley know some of his guests like a lunch would be women from academia or the media, I can give you names. Question and then I just wanna get back to the peculiar exchange via email in 2010. Why were you emailing Epstein about women and referring to these women by Disney characters? Staley by what? Question by Disney character names like Snow White, just why? I mean, just to help us understand why. Staley, yeah, again, I don't recall Snow White. It's over a 15 year period of thousands of emails. There's one email I don't recall. Question just give us a little insight. Why would you have been emailing Mr. Epstein about women and calling them these kinds of nicknames? Staley again, I may have happened on one or two occasions. I don't think I made a practice of doing that. Question, I'm sorry, say that again. Staley, I don't think I made that a practice. Stan's Berry, well, we have the emails that we just presented to you. You're not going to answer the question. Staley, I think I did answer the question.

Stan's Berry, what's your answer? Staley and again, I think it happened. I don't remember Snow White. I don't remember the email. And over the span of my relationship with them, 2000 emails and whatnot, I don't think so. That's my answer. This is Matt Rogers from Los Cultures. This is with Matt Rogers and Bowen Yang. This is Bowen Yang from Los Cultures. This is Matt Rogers and Bowen Yang. You know when people try a new food and suddenly it's like, wait, that's the reaction. A lot of people are having when they first try QB mayo. It's the one with the red cap and the little baby on the bottle. You've probably seen it in the grocery store before. And if you've ever just walked past it, some people would say that's a huge mistake because this mayo is different. Most mayonnaise uses whole eggs. QB only uses egg yolks, which gives it this rich umami flavor. It's smoother, deeper, and almost buttery. Once people try it, they start putting it on everything. Egg sandwiches, fries, burgers, some fans even swear by dipping pizza crust in it. And once you notice it, you start seeing it everywhere. Chefs use it, restaurants use it.

People who really care about flavor use it. Never try it, grab the bottle with the red cap next time you're at the store. Put it on just about anything, then you'll understand. QB, the original Japanese mayonnaise. This is Ashley Akinetti from the almost famous podcast. That concludes the second round of the Minorities Question. We'll go off the record. Now they come back on and it's mistollined doing the questioning. Question, just a few follow-up questions on something we were discussing earlier. Were you not aware that redacted was a victim of Jeffrey Epstein's answer? I know I was not. Question, did you ever become aware? Answer no. Question, the committee has reviewed documents that she'll redacted was emotionally and physically abused by Jeffrey Epstein for many years. Did she ever mention anything to you that caused you concern about her working for Mr. Epstein? Answer no she did not. Question, did she ever mention to you that Mr. Epstein would instruct her on how to dress and where she could go or other restrictions? Answer no she did not. Question, were there any other red flags that she might have mentioned to you or that you might have saw?

Answer no. Question, do you know if Jeffrey Epstein was involved in securing her apartment lease at each 30166 street? Answer, I was aware that the apartment was owned by his or the apartment building was owned by his brother. And so there was that connection. Question, but do you know if Mr. Epstein was directly involved and redacted's lease at that building? Answer, I don't know. Question, do you know if he paid her rent? Answer, I don't know. Question, did he direct her to live there? Answer, I don't know. Question, that's all. Now it's Ms. Briniac again doing the questioning. Question, Mr. Staley, bear with me. If I ask any repetitive questions to make sure the record is clear. You mentioned that Mr. Epstein explained he would use cash withdrawals for a flight fuel. Did you ever alert him that his cash withdrawals were flagged by the bank as suspicious? Answer, I think Paul Morris did. Question, did you? Answer, I don't know if I had a conversation with Jeffrey about cash withdrawals. I think that they were a red flag and the bank should notice it. So I probably did.

Question, did you ever alert Mr. Epstein that it was categorized as high-risk client? Answer, I believe so, yes. Question, when would that have been? Answer, after 2006, I think, question, what was his response? Answer, I don't recall. Question, did he ask you to give any input with the bank in their consideration of his categorization? Answer, no. Question, did you ever advise Mr. Epstein on how to structure cash withdrawals? Answer, never. Question, did you ever advise Mr. Epstein on how to avoid flags by JP Morgan? Answer, never. Question, did you ever advise Mr. Epstein on how to change his categorization as a high-risk client? Answer, never. Question, is there any appeal process that JP Morgan for a client who's flagged as high risk? Answer, an appeal process? Question, aha. Answer, I imagine someone can go to a compliance department or legal department and ask for it to be reviewed, but I don't know that there's a formal appeal process. Question, have you ever asked Mr. Cutler to hear out any other client who was at risk

of losing their membership at JP Morgan? Answer, not that I recall. Question, why'd you do this from Mr. Epstein? Answer, I knew him. You know, again, he made important referrals to the bank. And so I asked Steve Cutler to get involved. And also Epstein, I think, hired some very high-profile lawyers, and I thought they could connect with Steve Cutler and get to the right conclusion. Question, do you think the fact that Mr. Cutler met with Mr. Epstein on this wade, the bank's decision to retain Mr. Epstein as a client? Answer, I think, Steve Cutler would have the authority to change the bank's position. If he felt that was necessary. Question, did you ever hear about the conversation between Epstein and Cutler? Answer, not that I recall. Question, did you ever hear about the meeting? Answer, I believe they met, yes. Question, was Mr. Epstein always with private bank of JP Morgan? Answer, as opposed to? Question, any other division at JP Morgan? Answer, yes, it was always the private bank. Question, have you ever interacted with Mr. Indyke? Richard Indyke? Answer, I think I met him. But I wouldn't say interacted with him.

Question, I apologize. Have you ever interacted with Darren Indyke? Answer, oh, I wouldn't say interacted with him. I crossed him at Mr. Epstein's office once or twice, but didn't interact with him. Question, have you ever interacted with Richard Khan? Answer, no. Question, did you ever work with Darren Indyke on a transaction from Mr. Epstein? Answer, no. Question, were you ever trained on suspicious activity report requirements? Answer, you know, I had to pass things like series seven exams and other exams and whatnot, but I don't know if I had a specific course. Question, did you ever discuss requirements with Mr. Epstein? Answer, no. Question, do you still do bank with JP Morgan? Answer, no. Question, why did you change banks? Answer, I was asked to withdraw my accounts. Question, by who? Answer, by JP Morgan. Question, by who a JP Morgan? Answer, I don't recall. Question, why they ask you to withdraw your accounts? Answer, I think, because of the issues around Epstein. Question, does JP Morgan blame you for the reputational damage caused by Mr. Epstein?

Answer, I believe they have. Yes. Question, do you agree with them on that? Answer, no. Question, what do you think JP Morgan could have done differently? Answer, I think, as I said, everything from rapid response teams to compliance, to legal, to credit, to have this enormous infrastructure in the bank. The banking team itself, they were responsible for his accounts, knowing what's going on in accounts, monitoring his accounts. I was a senior executive for most of the time running the investment bank. And yet the bank places responsibility on my shoulders as opposed to what clearly was the responsibility of the bank. Question, did you ever tell anyone at the bank that they should react differently? Answer, again, I was running the investment bank, but clearly encouraged the bank to do its investigation, to manage the account properly, to file the proper reports with authorities, and to do the right thing. Question, who did you make those requests to? Answer, I think it would have been in the conversations with people like Steve Culler, like Langford, like Mary, and others. All right, folks, we're going to wrap up right here.

And in the next episode, dealing with the topic, we're going to pick up with question, why then ask Steve Culler to hear Mr. Epstein out? If you think they should have acted differently in retaining him as a client. All the information that goes with this episode can be found in the description box.
