Welcome in the case it online Mason both drew Galway here on a Thursday ready to rock and roll and get week number two of college football started there is actually one game tonight. I know most people are probably going to be locked into the NFL game that's taking place. There's a lot of time travel talk this week with the Australia game happening Thursday night already got one NFL game in the books but we're focused on college football especially this guy who's got Darian Minson on his fantasy college football team and we are going to beat Drew's team this week. It is me and Drew and Miami plays Florida and him tonight which is a ridiculous game to have play going up against the NFL but you know good for them good for the college football fans out there like us that we can take that in but we are obviously more focused on case day in Washington state this weekend the cats in the coup set for an 11 a.m. kickoff first 11 a.m. kick of the season depending on who you ask that's either a good thing or a bad thing for me I've come to really like 11 a.m. kickoff.
You know you get there early game gets underway you get home at a decent time if you're you know you come from the school advance both which is yeah we only live two hours away we are driving home so you know it's much better to do that after an 11 a.m. game in a 6 p.m. game like last week I did go stay at my grandma's though shout out to her. But when we look at case day in Washington state this week obviously case day got off to an incredible start last weekend with the 71 to 3 win over Nichols we thought that would be a blowout we thought the case date would play well I don't think we anticipated. To that extent case a days up with one of the top five scoring games and program history the defense you know Nichols isn't anything special but in Roger he's got a little bit of something to him and we thought that there might be at least a touchdown scored by the kernels and that really. It wasn't the case they only really had one drive where they moved the ball and that was about it and they were they clearly were worried about what case days defense might do to them last week without quickly they were getting the ball out and not wanting to take any chances it was really a self preservation performance and to get them into what will be their chance to compete in the South land this year so now case day gets a team that is going to be far more up to the challenge of this game and trying to actually compete for a win because.
Washington state already has a loss under their belt against the power conference team they lost last Sunday to their rival Washington in the apple cup on the road so couple of things going against them there. Washington state I don't know about the team and I would imagine to some extent that they're like this but their fans have certainly come out of the 24 10 loss to Washington with a little bit of I don't know pep in their step thinking that oh hey that's pretty nice performance there defense of line look good Washington do a ton. Never mind the fact that Washington made quite a few mistakes in the game that I don't necessarily know were inflicted by Washington state but Washington state was scrappy they fought I think Washington state is going to be a really good comp to what I kind of envision Colorado being this year in the big 12 and it's the same thing I told you last week I did not come away from what Colorado Georgia tech thinking wow Colorado is going to be really good this year I came away going I think Georgia tech might kind of suck. And I don't I'm like I said Washington state sucks but.
I'm not of the belief that last week means that they are going to be anything that should really threaten case state based off of what case it has in the stable to try and beat in this week because I know there's a lot made about the transition the players left and having to start over the first year at coach. A lot of pieces that are in place for case state though have been in the program for a while and like this is the only difference is now calling Klein is running things it's not going to be all that different from Chris climate and the few minor tweaks the offense is certainly going to flow a lot better than it did under Matt Wells so I think that the tone of this week is interesting because. You're going to get some better resistance than you did last week you and I are both under the impression drew that Washington state is better than to lane who case state will face next weekend so this is this is the important one before case it has a road game in two weeks since an ad and then a by week before Houston comes to town is the first true test of the year but what is your your general thought on Washington state entering this game.
Yeah I think that even before we really saw Washington state play on Sunday that I thought that to lane was probably going to be a little bit worse in Washington state after watching their you know bismal opening weekend performance so this is kind of the test of the noncon it is interesting the amount of confidence that Washington state fans have coming into this game. Especially because you kind of look at a lot of their reasoning is all the new players that case state has while also ignoring all the new players that Washington state brought in an interesting game because they are on one day less of rest and coming across the country to play it again that is at 9 a.m. Pacific so I'm really interested to see how they kind of respond and in a week with no player availability reports. I'm kind of interested in how beat up Washington state maybe is after a very physical game on a Sunday afternoon and turning around and playing now on a Saturday morning.
They are very physical their defensive line cause Washington some problems this will not be a game I think where you know a re Johnson barely gets hit but even for as good as their defensive line was against Washington Washington state only had two tackles for a loss still. And didn't have any and didn't have any sacks and Washington was able to run well at times it was almost the extreme of what we saw. Nichols due to case state a little bit but Washington was able to even provide even more explosives than Nichols was able to provide so it will be a bit of a test. I think that offensively though Washington state might be in for a little bit of a trouble because if they are really without Freeman who is there probably I would say their best player overall. They struggled to move the ball for a lot of the game on Sunday and I would anticipate some of that is because he went out really early.
But I don't know how they'll be able to move the ball very well against case state unless they are just running caden panic to the ground which is entirely possible because we pointed out earlier this week. That panic had only had four games or he had ran more in his career to this point that he did last weekend against Washington so like it is entirely possible that they're offense now is just hey let's just run panic and see what where he can take us. Yeah if you go and look at Washington state last week and the yards that they accumulated on their drives they first drive was easily there like the one that was the most successful in terms of the situation of the game I would say they went 41 yards to start they try to feel gold they missed it and that was. Pinnock's best run of the day came on that drive where you thought okay here you go watch out here comes Washington state then they followed it up three plays and a punt negative one yards four plays and a punt 11 yards three plays and a pick only green gain three yards prior to the pick then they fumbled on the first play that they had on the following drive then seven plays 25 yards and a punt 12 for 70 missed and a field goal attempt that they missed and then three for six.
And then three for seven punt and then they finally had their first touchdown of the game come late in the early in the fourth quarters start to late in the third quarter and they go nine for 62 get a touchdown and then they follow it up with a field goal and so it was close there for a second but then when Washington needed to get the separation they kind of put it put it down we're able to get up by two scores and then it was a pick on their final drive of the game with time left which you don't hold the game. And then they had to throw the ball and Washington was able to just kind of run things out from there so yeah it wasn't like an overwhelmingly successful offensive performance now 10 points would certainly indicate that and this is where like if you're on the Washington state side you would argue well you know there was some ball movement there and they there are a couple of missed field goal attempts okay you could also probably argue that Washington's defense is better than case states it's certainly more proven I would say at this point in time but I think that's the best way to do it.
But I also think that we need to account for the fact that rivalry games are kind of weird first games of the season are kind of strange and so like I have a hard time really taking much away from Washington state Washington other than just going okay there's a little bit of interest in how pinnacle is going to run the ball for Washington state against case state so that's something to keep an eye on and then maybe you start to plan a little bit for a tougher day running the football because that's what I'm going to do. That's the one thing that did stand out from the game defensively for Washington state was they did get a little bit of a good push there and Washington wasn't overly committed to trying to run the football against them. Demon Williams ran for 61 yards on seven carries and he was the most successful rusher Washington's quarterback who you know I would say that there are some similarities there to Avery Johnson Demon Williams is probably a little bit more of an instinctual runner at this point in time so he's a little bit deadly or there probably more willing to let the ball fly.
But then running back wise 47 on 12 on 12 carries was what Washington's top running back accomplished on Saturday that was 3.9 yards so as a team they ran for under five yards so if there's something that you want to be weary of I do think it's seeing okay was this you know poor offensive line play by Washington which we know case state will be susceptible to given what they're working with or was this Washington state. So this defense of front is the real deal. I think that's kind of the match up to watch in this game is case it's offensive line versus Washington state's defensive line because I still think that case it will be able to hold Washington state down a little bit from moving the ball. You know the defense is definitely what carried Washington state for a majority of the game on Sunday until ironically the offense figured it out and then Washington decided that they could score now.
That will be interesting because you're going to have to have some sort of balance but Washington state secondary looked a little leaky at times against Washington through for over 250 yards on the coupers. And for I would say one and a half quarters kind of got whatever they wanted throwing the ball and it was just coming down to making mistakes once they got into Washington state territory. Yeah the interesting note that I have here I'm not going to go as bold as we did last week saying that there's going to be a special team score against Nichols and there was. But there was a lot of space on the few times the Washington a few times that Washington state punnid Washington at a 27 yard punt return during the game and had a good kick return as well like there there could be some space again for a not offensive score or a big return that maybe flips the field a little bit in case it's favor if they can't move the ball.
Yeah just looking at it for Washington we know that they struggled at times with their efficiency on Saturday they had to kick a few goal on their second drive of the game which they only gain 26 yards over the course of a low in place there were some penalties on both sides it kind of made the ball movement kind of interesting in this game between Washington Washington state Washington had 130 yards at pedal yeah. Then but if you look Washington they had to turn over on downs the most notable being when they were on the doorstep of scoring and making this you know a pretty tough margin at halftime you know instead they're up up only to nothing they could have been up 17 nothing and that came off the heels of a miss fjol and then they had another turn over on downs later on in the game. So that's one of those things to watch for and we know case date was pretty good in their conversion situations last week and I know that was nipples but again how did it and how he thought the offense function for case date I think that you you get a little bit of a boost in thinking that they'll be able to accomplish that against some of these teams so we'll see how it goes an update of the line right now courtesy our friends over at Paul and market case date mountain around between 18 and a half 19.
Half point favorites in this one trading right at 90% to win the game and then the total at 49 and a half so it's it's been pretty heavy on thinking that case dates going to get this job done we will have our picks later so we'll see I imagine both drew and I think the case state are winning but is it going to be by that number that you see down there we will discuss that in a little bit but before we do it. Drew can you tell us what you think case date should be able to do well against Washington state. I think there's a little thought pretty well I mean I talked about it a little bit ago Washington State secondary was a little bit leaky at times allowing 268 yards to the Huskies and then if you kind of go on that I think that this could be a game that case date maybe throws to set up the run because Washington state did kind of load the box a little bit and dare Williams to beat them on Sunday so I think that that could be something to watch I think that case date should be able to hold the coup or offense and check I wasn't super impressed with a lot of the offense that Washington state ran on Sunday Kirby Voorhees the running back for Washington state only ran for 17 yards on seven carries.
And throwing the ball for Kaden Pinnock he was fine but did have the two turnovers who was 16 to 25 for 142 and no touchdowns and two picks like that that is a little bit scary I think if you're a Cougar fan coming into this game because you're already probably without your best receiver and if you can't throw the ball again I don't think that case it makes the same mistakes at Washington state because it's not going to be a good match. And because they certainly will have less penalties than Washington dead. Real quick on the the passing that Kaden Pinnock did in the game against Washington very few throws down the field. He had one throw that went for more than 20 yards and that was for they ended up being 32 yards but he was he only threw one ball 20 yards or more. He was three for four on yard on balls 10 or more yards down the field 10 to 20 at least three four but the rest of his attempts he had 11 that came and that zero to 10 yard range and then he ended up with seven that were thrown at or
behind the line of scrimmage so like it wasn't an offense that was really wanting to push the ball down the field or had trust to do that and as you said they lost their best receiver and possibly best player really early in the game so that certainly impacts it but also when you watch a quarterback that is used as much running the football like that you do assume OK he may not be that big of a threat to beat us through the air so that that's something to keep in mind and but you know what I'm saying is that he's not going to be a good match. And but you know that here's thing that's something that could challenge a defense like K states that we're unsure of because I think sometimes it's easier to defend a team with you know average talent that's trying to to go down the field as opposed to having to be pretty locked on and know what you're doing when they're throwing it short and their screens and a lot of confusion and the kind of the crowded areas of the field. No, and I think that that is going to be something to really watch is does Washington say throw it down the field a little bit more do they keep with the screen game so that will be something to watch but K states defensive line should have a pretty good day again at least the run defense department Washington's defensive line and especially defensive tackles were in the back field all day when Washington state tried to run the ball up the middle and
and to really highlight this point I think that you look at their just raw numbers. If you take away Cadin Pinnick's stats which I mean obviously can't do but he had 14 carries for 61 yards. The other carrier the other ball carriers for Washington state had 17 carries for 39 yards that is not very good. So this should be another big day for cases defensive line at least stopping the run for everybody else it will be it will be very heavy quarterback on ask and that's kind of where I kind of lean towards you know if there's such a heavy emphasis on Pinnick does that open up an avenue for like a curve before he's to pop a run or do they say discipline and take both because a lot of Pinnick's runs were kind of the zone read types. And especially the big one that they popped for 25 yards on the first play the game was a zone read so it will be interested in to see how case that goes about this and how they want to handle this because this is the first true test for the case eight defense and you know mobile quarterbacks have been a little bit of a bug a boo for case eight defense the last two seasons.
It's a brand new staff obviously but it is something to if you want to be worried I think that's what you'd be worried about. Yeah well we'll keep an eye on it in terms of what might not work case it we talked about the run game being the question mark because of Washington state and what their defensive line look like is that something that you think is like the number one and maybe the only thing that you're you're worried about right now or is there anything. Anything else you've keyed in on the Washington state kind of gives you some pause on what case they might be able to do Saturday. I'm worried a little bit about the run game offensively we're just with how Washington state looked I mean they they dominated the line of scrimmage on defense for a majority of the game and then like I said it was kind of weird because as soon as the offense could score for Washington state the defense couldn't stop Washington. Which I don't know if you know this but when you're trying to come back that's not how you do it.
So I'm really worried about that and then this isn't necessarily a worry because of what Washington state can do but it's a worry because we didn't really get to see any of this on Saturday because of how Nichols played but I am interested to see other secondary plays against a legitimate team that is going to play. And not just get the ball and throw it up and hope that somebody's over there. Like this is going to be a legitimate test. This is not a great wide receiving core for Washington state without Freeman but it's going to be more of a challenge and I think that their inability to run the ball without. Running panic will make them maybe throw the ball because then you get scramble and scramble drill does scare you if you're going to allow a big play against the quarterback like this because there could be something where he's rolling to the right and maybe one of the guys in secondary comes up thinking they could make the tackle they don't get there and then it's a big play because they threw it over his head.
Well, we'll see how it goes and we'll get into more of our preview and predictions for K state in Washington state and just a moment but first it's time for I think drew an I say segment of the show because we get to compete with each other year long and see who's going to finish at the top of the standings because it is time for game day trading with lines from our partners at Paulie market. Football season is finally arrived which means most are about to leave money on the table by using a traditional sports book but that can change right now if you just make the move to Paulie market. The best thing about Paulie market is that it's legal and running all 50 states making it easy to join the revolution. I think back to 2024 if you were like me I'd pick K state to win the big 12. After sitting pretty at 7 and 1 before the season crashed and burned in Houston I couldn't cash out on a traditional sports book your money's held hostage in the hope that something like ill time turnovers and a Texas monsoon tank your pick season you can even fade your rivals and sell at the right time to with Paulie market because Paulie market gives you the freedom to cash out instantly ride the swings of momentum and trade your selections in real time you have full control at every moment you won't be locked out which means you can also buy in it.
Traditional sports books are stealing from you with fees they take nearly $9 on a $100 win Paulie market charges one single cent with Paulie market you're playing against other users not the house trying to bleed you dry and you can even use the live chat with other users to discuss trades and markets you like or maybe talk a little smack through the college football season. Paulie market is so confident you'll never go back to the old way they are challenging you Paulie market is giving you a $50 bonus if you use the code on three trading not available in all jurisdictions check local regulations before trading restrictions and eligibility requirements apply trading is risky 100% loss can occur. All right game day trading time we look last week two and one for Drew and I the loss for me ended up being Auburn I have them at seven and a half they win by one so tough tough blow there I felt like that's the right thing to do Baylor I think is still terrible but I had maybe a little too much faith that.
Byron Brown and Alex go less would translate to being able to you know play like an SEC team or at least handle a lowly big 12 team and I guess I try to have it to them to yeah let's let's be honest here if. Alex go less can't get that us f squad to beat Baylor then it shouldn't have been a surprise that north north Texas wasn't going to be God's gift to the big 12 football this year at Oklahoma State and now here's the deal they should not have lost the Tulsa still that's who they ate up last year so it makes really no sense. Since what happened last week but I'm a little surprised neither of us took Oregon this week they are 22 and a half point favorites on the road in still water but I guess maybe there's some thought that there's a little bit of a bounce back for OS should they can put up a fight at home but Oregon's going to be pretty ticked off. I was an overly impressed with the Oregon and that's kind of what gave me a little applause and that's a lot of points going on the road it's the same thing that it's across country road trip that's going to start at nine a.m. Pacific.
I don't think that we're Oklahoma State wins but like I think that they. Maybe come close to covering yeah because I mean because Oklahoma State's going to be just as ticked off you would imagine but Drew must make or sell you remember it's going to be okay yeah yeah on ticked off specifically not talking to the media on ticked off specifically selling everybody it's going to be okay thank goodness okay well I'll give mine this week is drew was quick to point out oh you're you were on Kentucky last week I was they were winners also just remember everybody drew try talking down on my Georgia pick because all. They never cover in September or all this other crazy stuff about against these bad teams and they were just dominant from the jump I had to hear it from him and then I walk in the stadium in the first person that talks to me about it is D.Y. And he's also like oh what did you know that they don't ever I said yeah Drew already told me you're both going to be wrong they were so that was one of my wins and then the Kentucky one but this week no I'm out on the wild cats they get Alabama at home even though Kentucky covered last week.
Like I thought they would they made it tougher than I anticipated and it was it got a little sweaty there at times so I think Alabama is going to come in and kind of put him in their place because I don't think Kentucky's quite ready for it yet so I'm not a big believer in in willstein year one especially in that league with the schedule they'll face and then hey let's talk about Kentucky's rival Louisville they impressed a lot of people with the loss last weekend because they took Ole Miss to the wire. Sunday night and they got to say the top 25 despite the loss they come home now and they open their season against Villanova which some of you are going Villanova has a football team yeah Georgetown does to IFCS for these guys the deal is Villanova for a stretch there they were one of like the better teams in FCS they fall lot a little bit and they have fallen on hard times now this season I think most people are probably aware of what happened to Villanova. happened to Villanova in week one week zero for college football, but week one for FCS.
They had the heartbreaking and surprising loss to William and Mary at home. William and Mary not typically very good at football. Can't be losing to the tribe. Yeah, you're also thinking they have a football team. Yeah, well, you know, who else has a football team, Drew? The Bucknell Bison who almost pulled off another upset this past weekend as Villanova only beat Bucknell 17 to 16. So with all that considered, Louisville, as long as they're not feeling good about the loss and they're using it still to be like, we were right there. We're ticked. Like we're going to go pummel somebody. We want to get that first win. I'm taking Louisville for a big victory this week and against Villanova because I think they suck right now. And then speaking of a team that I think always sucks mainly because of their head coach. You know, it's not pit, even though I did dress up as Pat Norduzzi on the game one year for Halloween. And John said it was the lamest cost you me'd ever seen. But UCF is the opponent in Pittsburgh this weekend, Acro sure stadium, seven and a half
point favorites are the pit panthers. I am taking them over UCF. I think it could get out of hand. Now, I like all those. The Villanova one like fading them, I think is a good call. I think that 10 is not a high number like Alabama doesn't look overly impressive and could cover that. Hit I like, but two touchdowns does skip a little bit. Hit did score a million Saturday. So maybe I did it. Going into mine, I got minus five and a half. We Michigan actually lost to Western Michigan. The big 10 can say that they won and Michigan can say that they won. They lost. I don't think that Michigan's game will move the ball on Oklahoma like that. This could be a disgusting game because of these two defenses and what these two offenses are. But this could be like a 21, three Oklahoma win where they just look down at because Michigan
can't move the ball. And Michigan will get one Michigan will get one touchdown. They can just throw a Hail Mary and see what happens. Might be their best off. Well, I think that they might only get to play 60 minutes and not 60 minutes and one second against Oklahoma. True. Memphis plus eight and a half. Listen, Boise State is really good. Yes, Memphis going to Boise, but I don't think that they're a full touchdown and essentially two scores better than Memphis. I want to all stuff believer. He is a good coach. I don't know. I do get a little bit of a pause that he keeps just moving jobs, but you know, you do because he's so good. And he has like decimated the two schools that he's left previously. So watch out Memphis. Iowa State, Iowa, I went under 40 and a half. Listen, Iowa scored for the first time.
Against Northern Illinois, but they actually might just be terrible because they are in underdog against FCS school this week. And Iowa State, it's not like they looked overly impressive moving the ball. And you know, our friend, Alex Busley, he has said Iowa State is going to be really, really good defensively this year. It's going to come down to can they actually score. I think that the way that I would exist a close game is if it's disgusting. Like this could be like a 17, three type game where you know, maybe Iowa scores late to go up the two touchdowns. Like I think of this game will be extremely gross. And two teams are kind of like to take the air out of the ball a little bit. And I think that I would look impressive, but they played a game that might really look like a good one. And Iowa State didn't look too impressive against Seemo who does suck. Also, real quick, do you know how many touchdown drives of more than 60 yards Iowa State had
and their win over Seemo? Zero. Just one. Their last touchdown of the day, they went seven for seven, seven plays for 75 yards. But prior to that, their touchdowns had come on 56 yards, 24 yards, 40 yards, 55 yards, and then they kicked a field goal on a 30 yard drive. So they had prime starting field position all day against Seemo. Like I mean, Seemo took themselves out of the game. Seemo missed the field goal. They turned the ball over on down. They threw a pick. They fumbled and they had another fumble. So like they Iowa State was gifted some good field position. A lot of what they had to do through the course of the game was big plays. Jalen Ranner threw for 184 yards on only eight completions. He attempted 16 passes. And early on, really the only way that they were making some plays was with him running the ball. Yeah, I think Iowa State could be in for a rude awakening in this game with their offense. Again, I don't know that that means that Iowa pulls away and Iowa State doesn't have
a chance to win this because I actually might feel better about Iowa State's offense because they at least have one quarterback that they believe in. Whereas Iowa is like, yeah, what's the problem with going into our rivalry game running a two quarterback system and not naming a starter now molten. They're running back as probably better than than Aiden Flora and Iowa State. But we'll see. I'm going to say something kind of bold here. Do you think that the team that loses Sihock scores double digits? Because I don't know if I do. Oh, man. No, no, I don't think so. Because like this could be even like 24 to three. I have a win. I'm going 12. I'm going 12, 12, 9. I hope it's not that disgusting. But like this feels like a game where you know, Iowa maybe wins a little bit comfortably, but it's like 20 to three or 20 to six. Yeah. We'll see those are our picks for this week with the game day trading.
Now time to get back to talking K state and Washington state. We like to give you the top seven players in the game and the order has changed a little bit this week. Some new cats in the mix for K state, given injuries and standout performances last week. And then also one extra just Washington state clearly better than Nichols. How what do you think the score would be if Washington state played Nichols? Not as bad as what K state did to Nichols, but like maybe 45 to three. Maybe 45, seven. Yeah. Well, here's socks. You said they were mad until we learned last week. Yeah, I don't know that their head coach is going to be there too long. Here are the standout seven for this Saturday, K state, Avery Johnson, Rodney Fields, Gabe Powers, Jordan Allen, and then for Washington state, Kaden Pinnick, Matthias McLean, and Daniel Blood. Blood kind of gets the bump up now because Washington state is without their number one receiver
or likely to be without him. And then notable there that Rodney Fields, I mean, we were we were biting the apple that Colin Klein tried to feed us and everybody that, you know, John Judge, Jackson, J. Harris, and Rodney Fields wasn't getting a ton of mentions. Now, Rodney Fields, like like we all thought since last November, was going to be K state's best running back in 2026. And then Gabe Powers and Jordan Allen also two guys that based off their performance in week one, get the nod here. I can understand certainly while in Gabe Powers, my assumption on Jordan Allen is true is that you looked at what he was able to do as both a threat on the outside and inside of K state defense of line and think that he's going to be able to kind of be active all throughout the game. Yeah, I that is kind of my thought on Jordan Allen. He was really impressed the rewatch. He was making plays on the interior and on the outside. And, you know, he was one of the guys that along with window of Gregory, they didn't get to be in
Rodrig, but he was winning his one on one battles consistently. And that's why Nichols was just throwing the ball up and praying. Somebody was there Gabe power hits an odd here because we don't know if McIe Mason's going to play for K state this week. And I think that this would be a big McIe Mason game. So now I'm kind of shifting it to it could be a big Gabe Powers game. Gabe Powers looked like an entirely new player on Saturday for K state. And I'm interested to see if that was just Nichols being terrible. Or if Gabe Powers really has kind of turned the corner and because I thought that he was like 10 times more athletic on Saturday than we had seen at all last year. Like going back to like thinking about the North Dakota and the Army him last season. It wasn't powers best, but he he looked awesome Saturday night. Rodney fields gets the nod here because I think that he's going to be the number one running back for a majority of the game.
I think that case it gets Rodney fields involved in the passing game this week because he wasn't able to catch a pass this past Saturday. Avery Johnson's going to be on here. I think every week unless for whatever reason he is not available to play. Or if the haters get to us and they they convinced that he's actually bad like they're trying to do. Like this this needs to be a game. I think where he plays really well because I think at Washington state will be able to play a little bit more have a little bit more resistance to flee in the run game. If Washington state makes this a game, it's because of Peyton Pinnock and that's why he's on my my standout seven. We've already talked about that link at this point. He's a really good runner. He's capable throwing the ball. But that maybe not isn't his strong suit. Matthias McLean played really well against Washington. He's somebody that does scare you that it's on Ryan Howard and Gus Hawkins isn't super proven at this point.
Like he's somebody that could really cause problems for K state and the run game and the throw game. By the time he played it and Daniel blood gets this nod because I think that this is only a game if Washington state can actually score the ball. And Daniel blood was the most productive receiver for the Cougars on Sunday afternoon. Did you realize he transferred in from Missouri following Kirby or did you realize that he only had eight less catches last week than he had in the three years and Columbia? No, wow. He only had team career catches from Missouri had five in the apple cup. Without Freeman, he's going to be the number one target for Washington state. I don't think they'll be able to run the ball much if it's not kiddin' panic and I don't think they'll be able to throw much if they're not for Daniel blood. So like it might come down to if this is a game.
He didn't want bricks one off because he is the player that actually had the longest catch of the day for the Cougars against Washington. Yeah, you know, Washington states kind of in an interesting spot where their roster is comprised of a lot of like bounce back candidates. Tank Hawkins is going to be another receiver that they use pretty heavily and he's a former four star guy went to Florida out of high school spent two years there. Didn't really do a whole lot. Now he's there at Washington states like they they have the pedigree with some of their guys to do it. And you know, we talked about Kaden Pinnock going back to last week and kind of being interested in watching what he did because he had in awesome season last year at UC Davis. But how is it going to translate to what Washington states going to do? So there's there's the chance that it could kind of pop up and do stuff. All right, time to pick our game MVP's 4K state in this one of the cats or to win these with a guy's name step up. And because if I just keep letting Drew pick his unfiltered, then I'm going to have to be taking the second team every single time this year because he came in last week.
He was like, ah, yeah, you know, every Johnson and window Gregory. I think they're going to be I think they're going to be good. And I was like, okay, well, who's that leave me? And I thought, you know, I did a decent job. I took Draw and Tib's and Logan Bartley. I thought if not for Gabe Powers and Logan Bartley also up there and you could have made the case that he was maybe the most pronounced defensive player on Saturday against Nichols. But now we are going to draft these guys. So I don't know how we're going to determine the order here today. I will all allow Drew to go first still. But then we'll all first. Oh, well, that's very kind of you. Okay. All right. Well, then, uh, if you're having technical, I did go first last week. That is true. That is true. Yeah. Well, you went first and second last week, technically. So, uh, I guess, uh, yes, I will start with a Regenston. We know, hey, he's, yes, he's a quarterback. That is the simple take here. But last week felt really good seeing him go out and and play comfortably and get everything under control with the offense and not seem to have too many worries.
And he put a lot of balls right where they needed to be. I mean, again, his worst throw of the day was the one to Lincoln Cure in the end zone. But even that, like, still kind of gave him a chance. It was an early down thing. They were taking a shot. And then some of the others like Josh Manning should have caught that first ball that was throwing his way that he dropped. There are a few others that were kind of right on the money. Manning had another one where he probably should have gotten a hold or passing her parents called on the Nichols defender. Uh, there's one to Brandon White. It was also just kind of right there and then a few more that they, they came really close to connecting on. So I think that he's going to come out and we saw him be a little bit more of a decisive runner. I think he realized that, hey, there's still some more room there. And against Washington state, the opportunity might present itself a little bit more because you're playing a better opponent. You're not going to be up 29 to three in the, in the second quarter and being able to just kind of sidestep out of bounds and stuff like that. So I think we'll see an up a better performance there. And I do think we probably see some more connections on the deep pass attempts this weekend.
I'm not saying it's going to go crazy and it's, you know, like West Virginia in 2024. But I do think we see one or two big ones from Avery Johnson and these receivers. So he's going to be the catalyst a lot of these games. And so I'll take him against Washington state, especially because, you know, if you're worried about the offense not doing much, I think you look at it and say, maybe the running backs will have a successful day. Yeah, I'm going to say what the standout seven and go to the defensive side of the ball because I've got to protect myself. And I'm going to go gain powers. I think that he is somebody that really popped on Saturday. And I think that this is another game where, you know, you had a nice first game. Now can you go prove it against a better team? If he's still living in the back, killing his Washington state, I think that you could say he's probably really turned a corner. Like I said, he's a lot more athletic looking now than he was at any point last season. And I think that with that, it's exciting because you got a little nervous when you saw, you know, Macai Mason and then who else steps up out linebacker, but
it gave powers that are really good job this past Saturday. And I think that he will do a fine job this Saturday because I think that this is kind of the game for him. You can stop the run and, you know, depending on Macai Mason's health or not, he might be the person that's tasked with, hey, go get Kaden Pinnock and make sure that he doesn't do anything and put a little little spy on Pinnock. I like it. Well, I have to go defense now, you know, since since you already did, although, maybe you couldn't just do too often. And maybe that's how we have to do it now. We add that new wrinkle in there where you don't have to take an offense or a defense. It's just, you know, you have to have too often some two defense has to be taken so I could force your hand to make you pick another defensive guy. But what's the fun in that? I will take a defensive player. I'll save that little wrinkle for later on. You know, I'm going to go with Camarri Burns because I he had a good week last week for what we were expecting. We know there's a lot on his plate because there aren't many defensive tackles on this team where there's a lot of love and thinking that they're going to be able to step up.
But I'll do him to be different because you know, I could say window Gregory. That would be great. You know, but that feels like a pretty easy answer. And then I don't want to be the guy that seconds straight week, you know, one set of guys go, though, you know, I think you were Johnson window Gregory should be good. Well, no crap. There were the two highest paid players on the team. But, you know, I think that and I considered like Darian Whitaker because I think at some point this season, the ability that he's going to have is obviously we saw what he could be as an edge rusher last weekend. He got the strip sack when they were finally given a chance to do something. And his experience as a linebacker is probably going to pay dividends occasionally when case a is trying to stop a team that is running the football. But I think Camarri Burns can kind of cause some havoc in the middle and we saw that against Nichols. It'll be tougher against Washington state. But I don't want him to be a lost member of this defense. And I think that I liked a lot of what he did last week. And so I think that that could continue. And I really just don't want to go out and once again go. Yeah, only I think, you know, one of the great defense of ends will be good. Oh, I think well, I think Logan Bartley is going to be really fun to watch again. Yeah, we know that stuff's going to happen. So be a little different. I'll pick Camarri Burns.
But that's why I'm going to go different than the standout seven less than I did. And I'm going to pick Gerdochley. I think that this is a potential for a big weekend for him, because I think that passing games, you're going to be where Casey really goes. And, you know, if we're being totally honest, Gerdochley should already have a touchdown catch, but it got snagged by Geron tips. So, and yes, haters, it would have been caught by Gerdochley after on tips and run and bring his guy over there. So I think that this is a potential for you, you know, catch or you know, you could get spicy and say Gerdochley gets two against the coogers. Because I think that the tight ends were open every time that case they tried to throw the ball to accept the one time that they threw the Lincoln gear. Yeah, yeah, we'll see what it looks like for the tight ends this week. I think I think we are, we saw enough in that first game where they're, you're pretty comfortable with what they're going to be able to do. They're going to have a big year.
We'll, we'll see you. I've never seen that man drop a football. I might I may have just drinks it, but that catch that he had Saturday. And then if you go back to last year that catch later against Baylor. Yeah, he has a soft as hands on the team, I think. We'll see if it continues this weekend prediction time for us. This is this is hard to make predictions in the game like this because I think like there's a world where Washington state keeps it close. But and it's hard to know because what's Washington going to be what's Washington state like last weekend, how much of that was all these, you know, outside factors that can impact a week one game. And it wasn't overly impressed by Washington state. I think that their defense could provide a little bit of resistance. But the offense, that's something that you would like to see something happened early and now you're down one of your best options there. And so the only thing that you're going to kind of have to hang your hat on, which last week it was really the quarterback run for Washington state.
That eventually will become pretty easy for a team to handle like when even if Washington state moves the ball, I wrote about this. I said that I think that there's a world where Washington state moves the ball some against case state. But once the field starts to shrink, like it's going to get a lot harder for them to do that because case state can focus in a little bit more. You know, you're going to have guys more tightly compact. So you're not going to get spread out as much. And again, I liked what case state did if gay powers had a nice week. If McCuy Mason can play in this game, then certainly that makes you feel really good. So I and I think case states offense is pretty close to being the real deal. So I'm taking case state 38 Washington state 17. I think this is above the over under two. It's very you went. Yeah, yeah, the over under sitting at 49 and a half. I just I don't think case states defense is fully ready to be locked down and like there's Washington state is going to find the end zone in this game.
I think I just it would be wrong to put that much belief in the defense yet the offense is clearly proven it. I mean the starters went out there and scored what 43 points last week in two and a half quarters. And it looked good. It looked efficient. I believe in the weapons and I believe in a Regencin. And again, if if they don't have if they can't run the ball. This team can throw the ball. And I believe that. So I think case state can score and eventually they'll be able to get enough stops on Washington state costs and problems for them and be able to pull away. But I think this is probably a you know, this is not a stay out at your tailgate at halftime game this week. This is one that you'll you'll be in there until the very end. Yeah, I think that's going to be a nerve again for a half. And that's why I have this a little bit lower lower scoring the need. I still have it as a larger margin of victory than you do. But I think that this is maybe a nerve again for a half. That's like 17 three or maybe even 10 three at halftime and case it ends up pulling away.
The boards would not like it if it's 10 to 3 and half time. It will be a nasty place. And case it ends up pulling away near the end and winning 34 to 10 and it looks a little bit more comfortable than it actually feels like this feels like they could be just to kind of like a workman like performance for case state where nothing really blows you away. But they handle their business and win by three scores against a team that is at least capable. All right, so we we like to paint the dream of the nightmare scenario. Give me the dream scenario. How what houses play out if case date, you know, gets to to put in this this thing away quickly or you feel. You know, to what we talk about in KSO classic that feeling of oh, this is happening and like it's case dates winning. We're not worried about losing. Dream scenario, I think is case it gets the ball and goes down in scores early and makes it seven nothing and maybe you get a caden panic turnover because he is very young. He's only a soft more.
But the two games that caden panic is played against power competition is career have ironically both spending its Washington and he was terrible in both games throwing the ball with a lot of turnovers and running the ball was a little bit more of a success. You know, that kind of goes away for throwing turnovers especially in your own half of the field which you didn't get Washington on Sunday. So maybe it's case it goes goes down scores or on the flip side maybe Washington say gets the ball first and you know, panic throws it throws a pick and case eight scores and as immediately up seven nothing and then gets another stop and then other score. I think that's kind of the dream scenario of like because I think of this game where if you do get up early it's going to be really hard for Washington say to come back. And a lot of that is due to maybe not being able to throw the ball as well this week nightmarish scenario I think is this game feels very nervy throughout.
And that kind of comes down to the end because maybe you're not able to run the ball as effectively as he did last week against Nichols and you know maybe Washington states giving you some issues because you can't stop the quarterback run game. And it kind of. I hate to say this because this game was gross and case eight lost but maybe it looks a little bit like the two lane game in 2022. Where you're really struggling to to move the ball but so is Washington state and you maybe you maybe flirt with that a little bit I think that's the nightmare scenario is neither team can move the ball. But it like I said if you get up early and you get up to scores early I think case eight maybe was a game even comfortably like even more than the 24. Yeah no I think I think there's a chance of that like what we're going to find out just how good. Case date is I think in how they're able to put this game away or if they do put it away at all so what we'll see how it ends up playing out are you worried at all about the weather and how that's going to shape up and look this weekend.
Not necessarily because the rain looks like it's still might hold off and be like a pre game thing. If it rains during the game you get a little bit nervous because you got to run the ball and you know we've just talked about how good Washington state is and run defense but. It says right now rain supposed to stop like 9 a.m. So what you're saying is that Washington state once a wet track but case date once the football. I think that's probably what you're trying to say so yes I'm it like the weather can be the great equalizer as we saw in 2024 down in Houston for case eight and Houston that was also a Cougar team wearing a shade of red. We'll see how it goes against this Washington state Cougar squad this weekend but yeah hopefully no rain especially because I do think case dates passing and really can be a weapon form this year and so you don't want that little wrinkle thrown into it and hampering their abilities.
It is kind of a wild forecast for Saturday because it looks like it's going to be rain up until like two hours before the game and then rain like lead a night Saturday you do kind of worry about maybe some rain during the game but. Everybody will be thankful that it's going to be a lot cooler Saturday that was this past week. Yeah well we'll see how it plays out and before we get out of here let's take a look at the rest of the big 12 with our look around this is the first wave of games that will come your way this weekend one Friday night game for the big 12 it's a big one. I don't know what we're allowed to call it anymore I think it will always be I do now get why it's a little tougher to call the border war that has a totally different connotation than Kansas Missouri. But it's still the border war we can call it the border war will always be that just like it will always be the red river shoot out like we don't need to try to find all these different things I get it we're trying to be respectful but.
A sane person can realize we're talking about Kansas Missouri we can call Oregon Oregon state the Civil War we know it's not the actual civil war that's taking place out there but KU and Missouri Friday I think that's the most anticipated game in the big 12. Going on this weekend. Yeah do you still want me to pick one game that I'm watching from this window. Yeah give me give me the ones if I'm just forced to watch one and you kind of loaded up this window I know that it's because this is where the TV coverage is. But I think that I will go KU Missouri. Well also shame on me I forgot to include I forgot to include Arizona State Texas saying him on here so well. And 11 a.m. happened but. KU Missouri we we learn a lot about what KU can be this season and to be honest kind of same with Missouri because I didn't I don't know if you know this but in Tepika you get to listen to all the Missouri games and last Thursday went out and.
I got some food on the way and when I was picking up the food I listened to Missouri pregame did you realize that those tigers played eight home games last season. That doesn't surprise me I guess I know the schedule was kind of friendly who who's airing Missouri games in Tepika. So I listened to all of Missouri pregame on my way to go get dinner and come back and they talked about how they they played eight home games and still only one eight regular season games that does that mean that they're a fraud probably. Yeah be be all you Arizona is obviously into the number two game because I think that Oregon wins comfortably and remember you get to include Arizona State Texas saying him in here but you're putting that over as you and him. Yes because I think that even though a and M looked horrible for about two and a half quarters against Missouri state I don't think that's going to be a very close game.
Colorado they're playing Weaver State this weekend I think they're like a it's like a 35 30 somewhere in that range point favorite it's the largest that they've been favorited in a game since like four or five years ago against Northern Colorado so you know just like they're coming off that big went how they perform against the Weaver States of the world can they put them away that I'll kind of be telling because Colorado struggled last year with Delaware when they came to the bulls. I know that Delaware is now technically an FBS opponent but really it's Delaware they're still not that special and then they also had a tough time last season with somebody else that went up there I thought. I assume that that's actually an ESPN plus game. Yeah does it say yeah does ESPN plus I must not have gotten the. Damien Lillard ain't walking through that door yeah no name is not walking through that door and then the second wave of games or a few I left off because you know space and who cares I've already done a bad job is this today.
Pit and UCF we know that I like the Panthers and I like seeing Scott Frost have a tough time great I mean great finish to the night though in the big 12 a lot of prime TV opportunities you get the CBS and NBC prime time games for tech and Iowa state and then Utah Arkansas late night everybody will be watching on ESPN. I mean all those are fascinating in some way tech a little bit less than Oregon state because tech and then Iowa and Iowa state because tech will win but I guess it's a question of after not really putting away Abel in Christian in a significant way last week or they able to go and put the hammer down on Oregon state who hung in there for you know three and a half quarters with Houston but they weren't ever actually really in that game. It also a massive game for the beef getting a host 12 school. Texas Tech has already lost one year under Joey McWire in the the prime time CBS one day when I ran the road game that they probably shouldn't have scheduled to do it again.
The game that I'd be watching this window if I could only watch one is Utah and Arkansas. I think that side hoc maybe gets ugly but like ugly because the score sucks because it's like 26 like I talked about and Oregon state I think maybe hangs with tech a little bit but that ends up running a gas a little bit. I don't think Arkansas is going to be very good but I really want to watch Utah again and get the team that has actual pulse and sentimental reasons do you know who is calling Utah Arkansas. Oh Utah Arkansas sentimental reasons yeah. We've got a broad we've directed this guy not actually he wasn't actually dead. Oh man so like what he's been a KSO classic guy yeah. But ESPN who's calling games now for boy oh oh oh oh is this Clay Matt Vic no this is a Justin cut your game oh my on ESPN yeah oh man yeah sign me up holy cow wow I really did bring him back.
Yeah so Justin cut your body Jones Quint Kessnatch calling the game for Arkansas Utah I'll be tuned in just to hear Justin cut your again man that is I mean just seriously just take a minute to think about this Drew. If you like you think for us like growing up it's Joel Myers is the voice that you go oh yeah that is K state big 12 football that I associate with during that time period. There is a string of people that you know okay so what in 2007 through 2010 I would have been like that nine to 12 years old and that stretch. So there are kids that you go basically the people that are in college right now at K state that time period for them Justin Cutcher is one of those guys calling. Oh I'm gonna stay Iowa state or you know K state TCU games like that so wow yes I know I'm I'm pumped for that I hope K state is Justin Cutcher for a game.
Shout out to five of six sports who always posts where everybody is or who everybody is like calling the games because I was like look at that not only because it's easy to see who like is calling K state games but then you get to see like I'm just in Cutcher doing a late night the big 12 game like that that is awesome. Who I am fired up now for that one I mean I was gonna watch anyways because it's the only game on but now it's just in Cutcher time and that that's that's good news.
