So today we're going to talk about scotus slapping down Trump again in Missouri. Okay, so we've been following this as it develops, but it's worth a real quick recap. Trump knew his policies were going to cause losses in the House of Representatives. So he wanted to change the maps to protect people the voters wanted out. He asked the states to redistrict.

2:01Missouri was one of the states that played ball. However, there was a petition that gathered the necessary number of signatures to get a vote on the new map. The Secretary of State said it wasn't valid. The State Supreme Court ruled that it was valid and therefore the new map couldn't be used because voters didn't approve it. The primaries had already taken place under the now invalid map. Meanwhile, a separate legal battle was playing out in federal court and that judged blocked use of the old map. Conflicting orders. The Republicans tried to take the State Supreme Court case to the U.S. Supreme Court and got slapped down. So that finishes off the recap. Now the federal case has made it to the Supreme Court and the Supreme Court stayed the order that demanded the new map be used. That means the old less jerrymandered map gets used.

3:03Trump is going to be furious because this is yet another loss. The order didn't explain the court's reasoning but basically put the new Trump-backed map on hold until the entire appeals process plays out in the federal courts. That effectively kills the map because there is no realistic way for those wanting to jerrymander to get the map through the appeals court and back to the Supreme Court before it needs to be used. There are long shots but they are really long shots. Meanwhile, back in Missouri, the State Supreme Court is still holding contempt proceedings against the Republican Missouri Secretary of State. It seems like he was told to not, straight too far from Jefferson, the Capitol. That doesn't sound good. So at this point, there's still some long shot legal maneuvering Republicans could try. But it's unlikely to get anywhere in the limited time remaining before the midterms.
