It's Wednesday, it's 4 p.m. where I am and it's time to talk about movies and answer your questions. Welcome to Dance World. Hello everybody and welcome to another edition of Dance World.

1:00Can you see me? Can you hear me? Always relevant questions. More relevant with every passing week. Hopefully the streaming software works today. Hopefully the internet doesn't go out. Hopefully we can just have a fun stream because it's been a while since we had one of those. I am Dan Merle of course and I'm fresh from Los Angeles. I was in LA for several days. I saw some buddies of mine, had dinner with Spencer and Joe. Did my fantasy football draft, met up with some schmodeown friends, all kinds of stuff. I'm already asking people saying can I turn up my microphone a bit? I have turned it up as much as I can turn it up. I understand that the mic is a little bit softer. I have done everything on my end that I can do. So apologies there but it's corrected for people that watch it later on my podcast feed. But I can do the most I can do for my microphone I've done already. So hopefully you can still turn it up a bit and hear me. We should not have a sponsor this week so this should be the consistent level till we get to the end of the show.

2:00But speaking of today's show, I was on the road yesterday. I was actually going to put charts with Dan up this morning and I prepped it while I was traveling. I prepped it while when I got home and about four o'clock in the morning yesterday or I should say today I ran out of gas. And so charts with Dan did not go up earlier today. It's going to go up tomorrow. It is it's not just a regular episode. We're going to talk about the box office, which is literally yesterday's news at this point. But we're going to do a comprehensive rundown of the summer, the biggest hits, the biggest flops, the movies with the best legs, the movies with the worst legs. Was it the highest grossing summer of all time? So there were a lot of numbers that we that I had to crunch and make charts and graphics for. And it just wasn't able to finish it today despite my best intentions. So you can look for that tomorrow, but we're still here today. The tradeoff for going live today is didn't have a lot of time to prep this show, but that's okay because it's been a while since we did an all viewer question show. And that's what today is going to be. I don't have any news stories prepped unless something breaks while we're on the air here.

3:03But I want to hear what what do you want to know? What do you want to talk about? So we're going to work it the way that it always does, which is if you send in a super chat, I will definitely get to your question. But the good news is I'll have a little bit more time to go through and search through people that aren't able to send a super chat and are just supporting me by viewing the show, which by the way, thank you very much. If that's what you're doing, any kind of support I appreciate today is your day. So if you've got that burning question, if something you want to know about something you've been wondering about, I'm going to do the best that I can to answer your question today and answer everybody's question today. And we already have questions that are coming in. One of the first questions I got was from a cool aid, cool aid kid 69 16. He said, why haven't you not uploaded charts yet? Well, I answered your question already. See, we're already hitting our goals today. This is my first super chat question today from a Kaden P 98 Mike Norvel keeper fire. Now that is a very intriguing question.

4:06If you don't know, Mike Norvel is the head coach of the Florida State Seminoles. I went to Florida State. They lost their game on Monday night. And I have the long win of the of the opinion that Florida State would have gotten rid of him already if his buyout wasn't so much because what happened was Florida State went undefeated. And we got left out of the playoff, which I'm still angry about. And I think if you can look at it objectively, it's pretty easy to say that that was not fair. But the team kind of gave up and I think that he is the head coach, bears some responsibility for that. And since then, we've been pretty dreadful. And I think that he would have been fired at the latest last year. But what happened was after we did so well for a couple years. And particularly well one year, there was some big college football coaching opportunities that were opening up. I think the Alabama job opened up in Florida State signed our head football coach to this huge contract for many, many years. And so to fire him, you'd have to pay out the remainder of that contract. And it's like 50 plus million dollars.

5:10So the only reason Mike Norvel is there is because he did have a couple of good years as the head coach, but any other coach would have been fired by now. Florida State, I don't think can afford to fire him. But I also don't think they can afford to keep him that long either. And I was looking at our schedule coming up. We're one in one right now. If we're like two and four or two and five, if we forget how many games we play, but when we play Miami in a little over a month, there's an off week between when we play Miami and when the next game is if Florida State is, you know, has only one, maybe one more game. I think that they are going to have no choice but to fire. You can only keep him around for so long. You're just going to have to figure out how to do the payout and fire him. So I think that he should have gone already. I just don't think that he has the ability to inspire the team. But I understand that there's a financial element, but my prediction is that if we've only one, like let's say one game or even maybe just two more games by the time we play Miami and we lose to Miami, especially if Miami just blows us out, I think he's gone. Those are my thoughts. All right. Well, we're on ESPN radio.

6:15This is your favorite sports chat show. But hey, I like talking sports to Owl 109 says, have you ever been to Halloween Horror Nights? I have been to Halloween Horror Nights. I've been to a few different ones. My first ever Halloween Horror Nights was actually on camera. We went one year with screen junkies. I want to say that was like 2015, maybe. We went to Halloween Horror Nights and I went to several after that the last Halloween Horror Nights I went to was 2023 and I haven't been back since. But I always enjoyed it. I just love the craft of it. You know, I'm a techie guy. I'm a stage craft guy from back in high school. So I just love the setups and the mazes themselves and the technical elements of it. So yeah, I've been several times and I've always enjoyed myself. Justful says, are you planning on seeing or viewing hope? I just got out and it was pretty great. If you're okay with some funky CGI. I'd love to hear your thoughts. That's pretty much what I've heard about hope. Yes, I very much want to see hope. And I also want to kind of hear because that's when it came out of can. That's what I heard. It's like it's an amazing film with some of the worst effects I've ever seen. And maybe they've improved some of that since can. But yes, I'm definitely planning on seeing hope when it comes out. And if it's something that I'm.

7:30Passion about that I'm definitely going to review it as well because that's been kind of circled on my list since earlier this year. Christopher Brickner 5181 says when you mentioned in cities, the red doors worldwide gross box office mojo was off by about $100 million. It's actual gross was $189 million. Yeah, I yeah, Christopher. I know trust me anytime a mistake like that gets through on charts. I hear about it. And I heard about it several times last week. I guess or whenever I talked about the the gross of that of the the red door. Yeah, I mean it's frustrating because charts with Dan requires a lot of prep every single week. And. To have to double check every single fact against multiple sources because the box office sites are so unreliable. There's some movies some weekends where the weekend number is three different things in three different places. That was yes, apparently an error on box office mojo's part and it's on me. I should have cross checked it with the numbers or another different site, but I was in the middle of prepping a huge show and I took it at face value and I shouldn't have.

8:36But it just sort of. I think it just kind of underscores why so many people are so. Frustrated with these sites because they're supposed to be valued resources reliable resources and yet they're becoming more and more unreliable. So yes, I'm well aware my insidious number was wrong. And I don't know if I'll do it on this week show because I have a lot to get to, but I will correct that in the future. Ag. 444 says feelings and Daniel, Danny Boyle saying his new movie ink will feature AI generated animals. Yeah, I saw that that Danny Boyle said that there's going to be AI usage in this movie. I mean, it's a slippery slope is what I'll say, you know, if you if you watch the channel you've heard me talk about AI, I am not a complete AI opponent. I do think that there are some use cases in which I don't think that it threatens the artistic integrity of a film. I'll be curious to check out ink and see what this AI usage is for myself. But I think it's a very slippery slope.

9:39So I'm going to actually reserve judgment until I see the film, but you have to know at this point if you're a filmmaker and you use AI in any capacity that it's going to start some controversy because there are some people that are just unhappy with AI use in any forms. And I think a lot of those forms are questionable and dubious and problematic, but I want to see the use in the film itself before I make a final judgment on my own. FilmTrip 42 says what made you fall in love with movies? That's a great that's a great question. And thank you for the super chat. I don't know really. I just always have been. I just watched a bunch of movies when I was a kid and I wanted to know more about them and how they worked and why they made me feel the way they feel and how they were made and the stories of the people that made them. So it's tough for me to say to pinpoint one thing that actually said, made me go, oh, I love movies now. This is my thing. It's just, you know, I guess it's the same reason that some people fall in love with music and some people fall in love with visual arts and some people fall in love with, you know, basket weaving or jogging or whatever else.

10:40There's just something about them that have always that's always fascinated me. FilmTrip 42, thank you. Get for the super chat says, how did you get into this profession? Well, I don't want to bore anybody that may have already heard me tell this story, but it was a very kind of circuitous route for me. I was doing movie reviews in college. I was the critic for the college newspaper at Florida State for I was a critic for one year, like the junior critic. And then I was the senior critic of the college newspaper. But that was just for fun. I've said before I got paid $6 an article and it cost me $7 to go see the movie. So I'd lose a dollar every time I do review. I just did it for a good time. I knew I wanted to work in the entertainment industry at some point. I came out to LA in 2005. I did a bunch of different jobs. Eventually I wasn't really feeling satisfied with the kind of jobs I was doing. So I decided to become a freelance editor again with no expectation that I would ever be doing this. One of the jobs I got as a freelance editor was at screen junkies because I knew Brett Winer who co-created on his trailers. He knew me from doing channel 101 stuff.

11:41So I took a job just editing the first episode of the screen junkies show. Then I kept coming back and eventually took over on his trailers. And then over time I helped start writing and producing. And then when we all made our transition to being on screen. I made the leap with everybody else. I mean, we all just kind of jumped in front of the camera and people liked what I did. And so eventually I started reviewing movies and that eventually led me here. So it was a very circuitous thing. And it was not part of my career play. And then I'm delighted with how it turned out. Freaks.95. Thank you. By the way, yeah, I was on the KTLA local news in Los Angeles while I was there. And I I always I do virtual stuff from right here a lot of times. 12:48I've actually looked at that before as maybe like a ranking video like the you know 20 plus year later sequel video. And there's more than you think. So it would require a lot of time and commitment. But I have actually considered doing that. And maybe one day I'll commit the time to doing it. It's just that you know I always get sidetracked with other stuff and all that stuff. So yeah, it's it's it's tough. It's tough. But yes, the answer is yes that I I did or I have thought of that. I'm going to try to talk while I also and looking through your questions here. Let's see why though 100 says what's the over under on tech problems I find it more endearing is tech and I have a hate hate relationship. Yeah, sometimes I feel like Alan Grant and Jurassic Park, Reston peace Samuel. Sometimes I feel like all I need to do is touch something, especially when it comes to live streaming. And I can just break it immediately. I'm getting through everybody's comments when I went on saying they can hear me and they can see me, which is great. I sound decent. From a star star Stephen. So thank you. Hey, I'll take decent. Honestly, your intro is loud and then you're quiet. Well, you know, I do what I can. That's all I'll say. I do what I can. Let's see here. I actually know what I can pop out these comments. And that's going to be great.

14:03I'm going to make it easier to read. I'm discovering new thing. I'm I'm still working on this new software. So I'm figuring out new ways to do things. So we're going to scroll back down to where we were. Here we go. This is from a Svinnis 97 says, Hey, Dan, what's your favorite car? Well, I mean, my car is my favorite because it gets me around everywhere. But generally, when I was growing up, I remember when Pierce Braznan's golden I came out, I was in love with the BMW Z3 Roadster. Like that was my dream car because I just thought it looks so cool. Now I don't know if a person my size at that time or ever could easily have fit into a BMW Z3 roadster for a long time. That was my dream car. I don't know if I have a car that I would say is my favorite. I've always thought if you can make it mechanically reliable that it would be a lot of fun to have a delorean just because I'm a back to the future fan. So I don't know if I want to own a delorean, but it would be a lot of fun to drive a delorean.

15:03I'm going to go to the goal wing doors and sit in the, you know, in the driver's seat with that steering wheel. I actually know somebody who restored a delorean did a back to the full back to the future restoration, which is pretty amazing. I'm going to have to hit them up sometime to see if I can actually drive that car because that'd be amazing. This is one that came in Eric Damian Alex Alexis Toronto says, hi, Dan, what you're taking on fan films using AI to replicate real actors again. That is a slippery slope because I think that actors need to be very aggressive about protecting their own likenesses and when you open it up to anybody doing anything with their image or their likeness, then you get into some territory real quick. So I understand that a lot of people are not doing it to try to trick anybody or fool anybody they're doing it because they love an actor or actress.

16:03But I think that when we get to the point of AI, this isn't just kind of supercuts or creative editing. I mean, this is using software that can make pretty photo real versions of actors. I, you know, I say that I'm not an AI hardliner, but when it does come to kind of co-opting personal likenesses, I think that you have to be more careful than not in that case. And so while I know that most people are not acting out of malice when it comes to that sort of thing, I generally am not on board with those because I think that it's not a good thing. It just gets a little too dicey. So yeah, Robert Wilson 8776 says, Kylie versus Acne, we beat the Odyssey to second on Monday box office. Apparently, that's pretty cool. That is pretty cool. I've been very happy with how Kylie versus Acne has been doing it the box office. And it's the start. This is from Robert Wilson 8776. And I also am hopeful that it keeps doing well. And I just saw the initial estimates. Now there's already been an estimate once and went back the other day, but the initial estimate for yesterday is that the Odyssey may have retaken number one.

17:13And this came before. So we'll see. Gouldish animal says, how much of a chance does Indy never had he have in an Oscar nomination? I think she's got a real good chance. Now, we haven't seen the fall movies yet. So we don't know we have we don't know what the competition is going to be, but focus in universal are going to run a full throated Oscar campaign for her. And a given that Amy Madigan won last year. And the fact that obsession was a big hit. And I know that that shouldn't play into it. But you know, if hereditary in May 300 million dollars, I think Tony Collette would have had a better shot. I think that she has a good chance at getting it. I would say better than 50%. Personally, I got wheels 18. Thank you for the super chat says, hi, Dan. I know it's been a bit since your Godzilla ranking. But if you heard of the Gamerah movies, the show ones are a bit corny. The he's he said, sorry, I'm going to say that wrong. The high say trilogy is one of the best some of the best in the genre, in my opinion, I have heard of them when I was doing the my Godzilla ranking.

18:14I had to sort of delineate which movies I was going to do is just going to be strictly the Godzilla movies. Or am I going to expand to the spin-offs and the mothra and all of those movies. And there were already so many Godzilla movies. I had to draw kind of a hard line at just movies featuring Godzilla and King Kong was in there as well. Keep in mind. And so I did not expand into any of those other sort of affiliated movies just because I had to keep it manageable. So I have heard of them. But I also have not seen them. But maybe someday, maybe someday speaking of Godzilla, Josiah Muncie says thoughts on the new Godzilla minus zero trailer. Well, I like that they're still withholding quite a bit about the movie. I mean, I think you only see Godzilla in one or two shots in that trailer. There were some, I think I said in my fall preview and my it did my fall preview before this newest trailer came out. I said that there were some rumors that maybe it was going to bring in some of the other famous monsters and it seems like maybe that's actually going to happen.

19:18But we'll see. I mean, I don't know why they would they would kind of bait bait you or tease that if that wasn't going to happen. But I'm just super excited for this movie. I love Godzilla minus one. I think it might be my favorite Godzilla movie. If not, it's up there easily in the top two. And I'm excited for this one just because I just love the direction that the story is taking. Sorry, I forget to send my speakers down here. I just love the direction that the story is taking and and if you throw in a little bit more of kind of the old school Godzilla stuff at this point, then yeah, oh, look at this. This one's my high school yearbook, 2000, 2001. I've got previously on X-Men, which is from the Lee Wolds, which is a great document document document. I guess you can call it of the making of the X-Men animated series was written before X-Men 97 was announced. And then I got a bunch of star Trek books back here. Some comic books, Star Wars X-Men books, some laser discs. So yeah, just some stuff I pulled off the shelf stuff I have in my library was honestly sitting on my shelf anyway. So it's like, no, let's start on the set. I'm actually due to I got to refresh the background. It's been a while since I did that. Farman, Siddique 92, 79 says, no charts this week. I talked about that at the top of the show. It's going to be up tomorrow. It just was a lot of a lot of prep and a lot of travel and I didn't have time to finish it before it would have been laid anyway. So tomorrow, look for it tomorrow. RS Rokin 1984. 21:31But I knew that this is going to come up. What does your take on the Jeff Snyder situation with ending never ready? I know that a lot of people have been talking about this over the last several days. And I mean, first of all, I saw today that he put another post on social media apologizing. So that's number one, number two, you know, you have to recognize that it's a bit of an awkward situation for me because I know Jeff from the Shmo down. I met him several times. I used to see him quite a bit, especially when we were both still in the kind of movie talk industry with collider and screen junkies and all the crossover we did. So it's a bit awkward for me because this is somebody who I've I've known on a on a friendly basis for many, many years. But there's a wide gulf between the Jeff that I know and I've interacted with and the Jeff that was saying all that stuff on social media. And I don't want to go into the whole thing. Trust me, you can find plenty of recaps out there about it. My general take on it is it's completely unacceptable. I mean, you just that's just not how business needs to be conducted.

22:39I was talking with a friend of mine about this when I was in when L.A. over the weekend and they said, you know, the thing is in this industry and people that are in the scoop business and work with PR reps. Those kinds of emails are sent privately, probably every day from people that are journalists to PR reps, et cetera. But the problem was that it was this was done publicly. Now that's not me saying that that is an acceptable way to conduct yourself privately. I think there are lots of things about the way that the business of Hollywood was run in the olden days or even five or 10 years ago that are just unacceptable. And Hollywood is still doing business some those ways in some ways and in some ways they're not, which is, which is I think a step forward. But it's it's not acceptable. And if Jeff were to ask me my opinion, which he hasn't any won't, I would tell him that it's not acceptable. It comes off as entitled it came off as just kind of frankly unhinged. And I you know, as somebody who tries to conduct myself professionally.

23:46It would both be something that I would not do personally and it's something that would make me question my relationship with that person. Were they to were to be someone that that you know, I had a professional relationship with. And and I saw that online. I just I just don't I just I think it's it's unacceptable. Like I said, I think I saw earlier today that he posted another apology on social media. I don't think that there's a redemption is impossible for anybody. So hopefully some lessons were learned and it won't happen again. But yeah, I think it was just not an acceptable situation. And I think an apology was warranted. It seems like there's one has been issued. But I think that action speak louder than words. And so the apology is a good start. But I think that you now have to conduct yourself in a way that says I have actually learned something from my actions. And I'm not going to do this anymore because I don't think that there should be a place for you in the Hollywood wheel of whatever.

24:52I don't know. It just wasn't it really hit me wrong and and and I think it was unacceptable. David B. DeBom says, what's up, David? Thank you for the super chat. Will you do a profit breakdown for Kaya versus Acme closer to the end of a trend to see catch up entertainment's profit or what would have been a WB's profit. Yeah, I've actually David started doing that a little bit and I have to it's it's a little tough because there's the budget that WB put into it, which is one number. And then there's the cost to catch up entertainment, which is another number. So for example, if WB had done it, we know it had a $70 million budget, whatever money they put into marketing would have been more than ketchup because ketchup reportedly only put about $15 million into the marketing of the movie. So I think that there are two different calculations to do catch up the cost to catch up entertainment was $50 million. It's widely reported that they bought it for 50. They put about $15 million into marketing and then something to keep in mind also is that they reportedly got $20 million pre release from selling the international rights. Now that would not go into my profitability estimate because that number specifically never does.

26:06The point being that they are two different calculations between Warner Brothers and catch up. So it's a little bit more complicated than your normal or your average movie would be. But yes, I have started that process and as we go and we see how it does in the next several weeks. And also as it rolls out to more markets, I do plan on doing some more kind of a breakdown. But from where it is, if you include that $20 million based on my latest calculation from where it is, including that $20 million they already got, they're doing pretty well after a couple weeks. We'll just have to see how it goes from here. Henry Rob in 625 says what first got you into video editing any style or genre that you gravitated towards when doing freelance editing. I was always interested in video editing. It initially was editing movie clips together, kind of like you just saw that countdown. I just like the idea of taking a scene from a movie and combining it with another scene from a movie. And then it became making my own little VHS movies with my friends. I made a Jurassic Park sequel before there was one. I remember we did a volcano video when I was in eighth grade for our science class. And I like, you know, the volcano blew up and I would cut in clips from

27:13Independence Day and all these different movies. Just to like kind of make it seem like, you know, the town was being destroyed by a volcano. So I just was always really interested in that in that combination of things. And then even, you know, as I got older, one of the first things I did when I got a Mac with Final Cut Pro, my own Mac with Final Cut Pro is I got all my VHS tapes that I had made of SNL over the years. And I made like a best of SNL, my own personal best of SNL with my favorite sketches. So and then from there, it became more narrative stuff and figuring that out. And I did stuff with Channel 101. And I always liked editing stuff. I edited a few other people's things. I didn't really have a style of genre that I gravitated towards when I was freelance editing because when you're freelance, especially when you're just starting out, which I was, you take anything. So I edited, I think the first thing I edited was a was a kind of low budget music video. I edited a lot of industrial videos for Jen air kitchen appliances. I would get footage from trade shows and, you know, showcases and stuff. And I would edit those to music and do all that. The only time I've been to Portland was as part of the crew for a Jen air trade show. And then I would work nights processing all the footage and stuff.

28:26But you know, honest trailers was was sort of a, a dream job for me and screen junkies because it was about movies and getting to edit stuff for movies. And then once I was established as an editor, like a lot of those supercuts that you would see back in the old days at screen junkies would be me just kind of going in and saying like, hey, we got a hole in the schedule. I got an idea for the for supercut and they go like, yeah, okay. So it really was a dream job for me. I'm a very, I'm very lucky. I really am very lucky. Alex Scooby-Doo says, rumor has it you're turning the movie fights soon. Any words for your opponents? Well, I cannot confirm or deny any rumors about movie fights and a potential return soon. But my, my, my words to my opponent to the same as they've always been be ready. Be prepared. Any time I'm doing a movie fight, whether that's next week or next month or next year. Be ready. Because you know that I'm always going to be bringing my best. Let's see. Ninoana, a candle quince said, hey, buddy, Spider-Man brand new days at 923 million domestic while the Odyssey is reaching 600 million. Yeah, I know. I was, I was putting on putting that in my charts yesterday.

29:34It's pretty crazy. By the time I do charts next week, we should have a new all-time domestic champion, which is, which is nutty. Because at first I was, I was, I doubted that it was going to be able to have the closing speed to do it. But I was wrong, wrong, wrong. Napl pine. Thank you for the super chat. Or do you feel now that Wonder Woman was made a bit of a one hit wonder for her?

30:41Well, yeah, I mean, she's had kind of a rough go of it. I, I mean, there's any number of actors who you could look at and say they made all the right choices. And none of the projects panned out Taylor, click, catch, I think is an example of that where he did the big John Carter Disney movie. He did the X-Men movie. It's just that none of them worked out. I think that not all of Gal Gadot choices have been the best. I don't know what all has been offered to her. I don't know what she's turned down or what she said yes to. But, you know, this was doing snow white on its surface, a bad career move. Not necessarily. You're doing a big Disney live action remakes. They tend to do very well. But I think that it's looking more and more likely that Wonder Woman is going to be her signature role. I have not seen any breakout potential beyond that. She reminds me a little bit of how Hayden Christensen was around the time of the prequels, which is, I think that Hayden Christensen actually in the right project is a very good actor.

31:52Shattered glass. I talk about all the time. He's phenomenal in that movie. But his speech patterns and everything. I think are only suitable to certain kinds of roles. And if you put him in a role that's not suited to him as an actor as evidence, I'm sorry. I know that the generation below me loves them, but as evidence to me by the prequels, then I think he can come off looking kind of bad. Now, I love that he has been embraced so much by fans now because fans at the time. Including myself here gave him way too much grief for the prequels when he was really, you know, there are moments where I think he's great. I just don't think that George Lucas wrote a script that played to his strengths. I don't think a lot of what I've seen Gal Gadot do plays to her strengths. I actually have never thought that she was bad and as Wonder Woman. Especially in that first movie, I thought that she was actually pretty good. I just don't think that she's taken very many projects that played her strengths. And when you don't take any projects that played your strengths, then I think things dwindle. And I think that's part of it. I don't know if she's not being offered them or if she's not choosing them.

32:57But I don't think that she's picking projects that played her strengths. That's just me. Strowman, Strowman, says, you think brand new day is hitting $1 billion domestic now. Well, you know, I was wrong on the all time domestic record because it's going to get there. I also, I doubt it. Honestly, I think it's going to come up short. But I was wrong about the other one. So yeah. My answer would be no. I don't think that it's going to do it. But that's what the caveat that I've already underestimated at once and underestimated it and picking it at the summer box office. So maybe me saying no means that it's going to be yes, because I've underestimated Spider-Man brand new day at every turn. CJ K. I said Star Wars. Star Wars made me fall in love with movies. Do you ever see yourself participating? I don't know which ones you're talking about specifically. I mean, it seems like everybody's always boycotting against one IP or another.

35:15I mean, I guess Harry Potter maybe comes to mind. I know some people are boycotting Harry Potter because of JK Rowling and everything that she says outside of the Potter universe. Do I ever see myself boycotting an entire IP? It would take a lot. It would have to be somebody who, you know, first of all, you know, it's not just something that I disagree with, but something that I also don't want to, like they would have to have a direct involvement meaning like authorship. And I don't mean authorship in the way that JK Rowling has. I mean authorship is in they are the sole creative force behind a movie or an IP because there are so many other people involved. And I always say this about boycotts is like I'm not judging anybody who does choose to boycott anything. But there are so many people involved with the making of a movie or a show that would be hurt if it does not receive, you know, that kind of support.

36:18If there's, if the series is canceled or whatever, it would be tough for me to say that I'm writing something off completely unless it's just inextricable unless it's so bad and that person is so inextricable to it that I say I can't in good conscience support that. That would have to be a, you know, that's not the case right now with anything I can think of now. And that's no, there are some IP where, you know, for example, I was in a film critic what I would I have gone to see transformers four or five. No, it's not that I'm boycotting the IP. I just didn't like the previous films and I'm choosing not to see the other ones. I don't see that as a boycott. A boycott for me is somebody saying this is something that I would participate in that I am actively choosing not to participate in because of a reason that maybe has to do with something that's not the writing or the directing or the quality of the past moments. But I don't judge people and I always say it, if it feels like the right choice for you, I support that.

37:18I understand people that don't want to watch the new Harry Potter show, for example, because of JK Rowling, you know, my ask would just be like don't judge people that acknowledge that it's a situation that is worth acknowledging. But also say, but I also want to, you know, see what the other creatives involved they're doing. It's tricky. It's a minefield and I know that this answer probably won't wouldn't please everybody. But I think that there is some gray area and some room for personal decision making person. That's just me. CJ K. Austin's Ghostbusters Afterlife is up there with the better legacy sequels. I agree personally. I think I like Ghostbusters Afterlife. It's not a perfect movie, but I like it a lot. So yeah, if I were doing one of those lists, then Ghostbusters Afterlife would be up there. And I would count Ghostbusters Afterlife, by the way, because I know that Ghostbusters 2016 was about five years before Ghostbusters Afterlife. But Afterlife was a direct sequel to the, you know, original Ivan rightman Ghostbusters movies. So I would count it as a legacy sequel personally.

38:26Bill now, thank you for the superchets says glad to see you on KTLA again. It sounds like the points you talk about largely follow your own show here. Did the hosts or producers present topics they wanted to talk to talk about to. Well, if the answer is was there a pre interview? Yes, they're absolutely isn't. And just about any interview that you see on a news station or that you see on anywhere a talk show, especially there is a pre interview. So yeah, generally the producer will call me the day of or the day before and say, okay, I want to talk about the summer box office season, which we did. What do you think and or he'll ask questions like, you know, what are three movies that you think would be hits and what are three movies that you think would be misses and what do you think about this. And then we'll talk for about 15 minutes. He'll condense that to the questions that I'm asked on the air. And it also helps me because I know what they're going to ask about I can have what I want to say kind of a little bit prepared in my head. So I'm not trying to think of things on the spot. So yeah, there are pre interviews. We talk about it before. Because the goal is and the other thing is it's a very tight time limit.

39:26You know, I get three minutes. Sometimes this last one was seven minutes, which I think is the longest I've ever had. But it's a very tight thing. So if you want to get through everything, you kind of have to know what you're going to say because you've got to you've got to stay on the clock and stay on time. So yes, there is some discussion about what to do, but they don't tell me what the questions are. It comes out of a conversation I have with the producers at a time. Cartoon 49 says thoughts on the recent Supreme Court decision on the anti-trust suit on the paramount WB merger. Well, as I as I understand it and I was reading a little bit about it today, it's not that the Supreme Court made a decision. It's that there were some other states. Iowa, I believe, is one of them that are trying to block the anti-trust suit because they say it's politically motivated and the Supreme Court asked the states that are suing paramount and Warner Brothers to reply to that lawsuit by I think it was the 20th or the 25th of September. So as I understand it, the Supreme Court hasn't really decided on that. They've asked for a response from the states so they can decide whether they are going to take that case up.

40:35And that's legal procedure. So I think it's a little preemptive right now to start reacting to anything the Supreme Court does with that necessarily. If they decide to take up the case, obviously that's another big escalation and then we'll see what they had to say about it, but asking the other side to file a response. I mean, I guess they could have refused and just said we're not going to listen to it, but asking the other side to submit a response. I think it's pretty standard legal procedure. So I wouldn't I wouldn't read too much into that. LV HC5RX, thank you for the super chat says, hi, Dan, what are your quick fall box office top? Oh, man. I mean, no offense, but I could not do a quick fall box office top 10 because I think it's even more complicated than doing it on the summer. I mean, there would be some no brainers like Avengers, doomsday, obviously, would be in my top 10.

So there are, I mean, there are some things that kind of help me get things done quicker. I have templates for charts that I have that I can plug things into, but it's still all manual. I don't automate any of that.

42:40It may be why I don't do outputs as much as I often want to do or do as many videos because it all bottlenecks in me. And the reason why is that I think that people should be paid the proper amount of money for what they do. And so if I hire somebody to help me, I want to make sure that they're getting paid a fair price for what they do. And I don't think I'm at the scale right now to be able to consistently hire somebody to do, let's say graphic data. I'm not going to be able to do a design or to edit for me because I want to pay them what they're worth. And I'm just not there yet. But yeah, so I would really say I have any systems in place other than my own workflow, which I manage 100% myself. 46:03I have perfect recall on names and titles. I mean, honestly, obviously you took a The Drolls is the one that a lot of people always site and it is one of the best episodes of television ever. I've also really liked the one they always did great Christmas episodes. So the one where Toby arranges the funeral for the veteran who died and had gotten one of his coach from Goodwill and had his business card in this pocket. And Mrs. Laningham goes with them because her son also died in Vietnam. And I mean, that's just such a powerful episode. And then I think the one the next Christmas was the one where Josh was overcoming his kind of PTSD from from getting shot at the end of the first season. And I thought that that was a really good episode. They always did Christmas episodes very well. And then I like the big block of cheese episode of the where they bring in all the people who were, you know, the crack pots. That one's kind of been coming up in the last week or so because the they the UN I think has adopted the different projection of the world map that resizes the continents from the from the standard map. And that was part of that episode where they have somebody coming and saying I think it was the Mercator projection.

47:11Because it, you know, this is what the continent actually look like. And now 25 years later, 20 years later, that's actually become a real thing. So I, I'm a big fan of West Wing social reckoning. I'm looking forward to a sort of directing. I mean, he's not David venture. But I liked the child of Chicago seven. So we'll see. It's tough to follow up social network because, you know, Drew Skizzy says WOR says Kendrick and the South Park guys slave musical has ballooned from 70 million. And then I think I'm going to do 150 and still isn't finished. I forgot about this movie. Remember it. Oh, yeah, I remember it. Some of the movies aren't so good. But Roger Deacons is one that I'm always like, yeah, I got I got to see what he's doing on the big screen. Actors and actresses. I mean, every single movie. I've said before I'm a big fan of Paul Giamatti. So if Paul Giamatti's in a movie, I'm probably going to try to go see it. He's in the debut, which is Jesse Eisenberg's new movie with Julian Moore later this year. And I'm looking forward to that. I just I'm just a fan of his as an actor.

49:11But I mean, every single time that's really tough. Yeah, that's the one that comes to mind. I'm sure there's probably one or two others. Robert Pattinson's getting there for me. But a well regarded performance in a horror movie that never had a shot at Oscars because, well, it did what a horror movie should do. And I think her editary is the same. I think that Indy never Eddie has a shot. Our number one. The movie was hugely successful. And number two, she was great. Do I think that she was better necessarily than Tony Collette and her editary? No, but it's a movie that was a cultural phenomenon. It's why Amy Madigan ended up getting nominated for weapons because the movie did very well. And I think the Academy is softening a little bit towards horror.

52:36So I think she has a better shot because she's and it's a great story. She's a young actress. She's new. She's a new face. She came out of nowhere and blew everybody away with her first major performance in a Hollywood film. And so it's a really good story. The Oscars generally like new actresses younger actresses. And they take notice of them. And you can say that's ages around fair. And I've listened to that argument. But it's also because the movie did so well. Darth Homer Cleese said, are you seeing any of the Star Trek 60 movies and theaters? I don't know if I will. It's just like seeing a movie in theaters is such a commitment. And I've already seen so many of them so many times. I doubt it. But I wouldn't mind going to see two four or six or maybe even three in a theater again. I mean, I think Matt Damon would be pretty good on the Muppet Show. I think Zendaya would be pretty good on the Muppet Show. Pretty much the whole cast of the Odyssey. Oh, man, this is we're getting into more sports. So in case you didn't know Michigan and Western Michigan played a football game on Saturday, I think, or Friday. And it would have been a massive upset because Michigan is Michigan and Western Michigan was like a four three four touchdown underdog. And there was a Hail Mary play at the end of the game Michigan threw up a pass. It got caught in the end zone and Michigan won the game on the last play of the game.

54:50It appeared, according to replay, that there was no there should not have been any time left on the clock for them to run that last play and Western Michigan should have run should have won the game. And Michigan dropped out of the top 25. So I think they were penalized as if they had lost the game. But that's been the talk of it because it's gotten so complicated because now it's like, well, this clock said zero seconds, but that but the broadcast clock isn't the real clock. Another officiating clock that's different from the broadcast clock and the broadcast clock was was running faster. So, but then by the bylaws of the replay, you have to go by what the broadcast clock says, it's a mess. I don't know. I think they should investigate thoroughly and I think that's what they're doing. Western Michigan to their credit is kind of taking it and stride and saying like, you know, it sucks. We hate it, but we're not going to stop and scream like honestly like Florida state did about not getting into the playoff. So I admire their sort of resilience there, but I think the thing need to investigate thoroughly and if I mean, I don't know.

56:02I don't know if you can overturn the result of a game at this point. I think that that you just have to make sure that nothing like this ever happens again. So yeah, I feel bad for Western Michigan, especially if it turns out after investigation that they should have won the game because let's be honest, they should have won the game. I think that if somebody is putting up like a James Gandalfini, a Tony soprano like run, they should be eligible to be rewarded multiple times for that role. What I don't like is when it seems like the academy is not paying attention or has no interest in voting for anybody else. It's like, oh, he's great. I'm just going to vote for him because, you know, John Hamm and Brian Cranston, for example, were constantly being nominated the same year for Breaking Bad and Mad Men and it seemed to me like John Hamm always got the shaft because Brian Cranston was so good.

57:05Steve Carell never won for the office because he was up against, I think, modern family and all these other shows that would just kind of win year after year after year after year. If anything, I would say maybe if you want to make a rule like that, maybe make it that you can't win it two years in a row, but I don't know if I would even strongly support that rule. I think you just have to kind of trust the academy to give an objective look at the awards every year and decide who actually put in the best performance, but that's not what happens. You've already got two Super Mario movies, want a couple of other animated franchises, cross them over. I think a video game cinematic universe is far more likely than an anime cinematic universe just because anime a lot of times seems to be more creator driven and less kind of studio driven. And they're telling so many of their own intimate stories and also stories that are based on manga and that have pre existing story lines.

59:13I think that a video game universe is much more likely and I would say I would say likely in general shadows on the wall. If you know you know says do you use gold Derby when considering Oscar knobs. I yeah, I take a look at gold Derby and see what the experts think. I don't always side with those experts. I will often make my own picks, you know, based on my own hunches or stuff. But yeah, I mean, there's so many people that do actual awards stuff for a living. Then I'm always curious to see what they think. So yeah, especially around this time of year, I start to look and see, oh, you know, what are the experts say and then sometimes I match and sometimes I don't. The magician. Super chat. I feel like there were Oscar or the performances both on screen and behind the camera. I did. It was part of my end of the year kind of rush to see all of the award potential films. And it was a movie that I respected. But I didn't love, you know, like Amanda Cipherd wasn't necessarily in my personal top five, but I was surprised it didn't get more love than it did because the craft of the film was very, very well done. And the performances were good too. It's just not it was one of those movies that was like, okay, that was well done, but it's it's not exactly for me.

1:03:30He plays the general at the beginning of the movie when they're freezing him with the mustache, I believe. And I knew that he was in that movie when I moved out there and we got to LA 2005. So I watched it to see Mike. And then since then it's it's the legacy of that movie's been pretty crazy. What's up 102 says in honor of Tim Curry might you finally watch Oscar to see a hidden gem of performance from him. I swear it's a better movie than you might think I haven't seen it. But I've you know you're the second or third person I've seen talk about Tim Curry's performance and Oscar. So maybe I should clear some room on my schedule. 1:04:36So it'd be between Grand Theft Auto 6 and Godzilla minus zero. I mean, it really comes down to what would I be more upset about having to wait three months to do what I be more upset about waiting to having to wait three months to play Grand Theft Auto 6 or waiting three months to see Godzilla minus zero. And honestly, I would rather have to wait three months from to play Grand Theft Auto 6 then have to wait to see Godzilla minus zero. So I guess by default, I would have to say Godzilla minus zero is the one I'm most excited about. Although I will also be playing Grand Theft Auto 6 Rochester producers 88 47 send in a super chat saying thoughts on Netflix changing course and reporting box office for six upcoming films. Well, that certainly a step in the right direction. And I thought that they were shooting themselves in the foot by not doing it. I think that they are putting enough high profile projects and theaters like Narnia and like Cliff Booth coming up that it's not like, you know, not reporting the numbers for Frankenstein or a movie like that. It would become conspicuous. And they made a big show when they wanting to buy Warner Brothers of playing nice with the industry.

1:05:41And I think that they also are conscious that they may want to do that again at some point in the future. So it's definitely a good sign for them to start actually doing industry friendly things because if you need to convince people that you're not an enemy of the industry, then you need to stop doing things that are combative to it. So I'm excited as a box office analyst because I want to know what the numbers actually are. And I think it's actually going to help them too. I'm glad that they're supporting theatrical. I've been saying for years. They should have been doing it a lot earlier. I think they've been leaving money on the table. Kyle Harlow 3961 your thoughts on coyote versus Zach meets performance. 1:06:41I'm delighted that audiences seem to really be to enjoy it that it's not just a critical favorite, but that audiences are liking the movie as well. 1:07:52yes, it does bother me. What I am excited about. I don't know if anybody else saw this is that the Star Wars 1977 is getting released next year. And reportedly, and I think they may have also officially confirmed this. It's the original cut. It's the it's the first time in like 40 plus years, I think, that the original cut of Star Wars, meaning the not the special edition, no CGI, no redone effects will be shown in theaters. I am super excited about that. Darth Muffet says, do you think Audrey Arhona is Wonder Woman or Maxima also thoughts on Star Wars? What I feel bad about is that she's getting asked about being Wonder Woman in every single interview.

1:09:05And they all know she can't say that she's playing Wonder Woman and yet they all ask her anyway or try to be sneaky about it whether or not she's Wonder Woman, leave her alone. Like I get it, it gets you noticed, it gets hits and clicks and whatever else you get put on Reddit, it gets clipped out and put on Twitter, which is what I'll always call it. But it's like Andrew Garfield and Spider-Man, like she can't say, yeah, I'm playing Wonder Woman, so stop asking her because it's it's a hundred percent self serving at that point. You know as an interviewer that she can't say she's playing Wonder Woman. So the only reason you're asking her if she's playing Wonder Woman is to put the spotlight on yourself and to get your clip featured on social media, etc. And all it does is make that actress uncomfortable and probably start resenting interviews because she keeps getting asked a question that she knows and they know that she can't answer. So that's my big annoyance is I understand why they're putting up the smoke screen. I think at this point it may they may just as well put out a picture and confirm it.

1:10:08But it annoys me that everybody who doesn't interview with her tries to get her to trick her into saying she's Wonder Woman because it's like, it's just annoying. It bothers me. I think it's in a dull dream right now, but star trek was never a real mainstream franchise. It kind of got there a little bit, but it was never like on the level of star wars. I think it will rebound from where it is eventually. I don't know if that's going to be in five years or 10 or 25 years, but I think it's going to get better. How much money will do and three make.

1:15:01That's a big question for me. Number one, you have the doomsday factor to what degree will having doomsday also in the market affected, but it's a Christmas and that's basically a two week window of uninterrupted movie going. So it's not like a summer movie for me where I think that doomsday could totally wipe it out, but there is some question there, although it also has the iMac's exclusivity, which helps to raise the gross. I would I'm not going to say it's going to be a billion dollar movie. And my biggest question really isn't the release date. It's doomsday having red doomsday. I just don't know what that movie would be. So if the movie is similar in you know in most ways to do messiah, then I think it could be a very polarizing film. If it only incorporates elements and I'm curious what is going to be added to the movie. So my biggest question mark is actually the content of the movie itself and how people are going to react to it.

1:16:01I you know I'm hesitant to put a number on it. I would say it's likely to outgrow the second dune. And if it's an Odyssey level film, if Denead Villeneuve goes in and just works wonders with it and it's kind of an un-missable epic, then I think the sky is the limit. But I would say sub billion, but more than dune part two would be what I would guess. What's the future of Game of Thrones in your opinion? I mean, not a seven kingdoms has been well, there's been a good reaction to it. And House of the Dragon has got, but I think what a couple more seasons left. It's just really hard to watch the taste of that last season of Game of Thrones out of people's mouths. And the longer there's no conclusion to the books. And at this point I think it's looking more and more likely. There never will be. Then I think it's a legacy will kind of be as a property, not just as a television property, as something that started strong and then just kind of didn't really know what to do at the end. So I think that I see it being a franchise that spawns little pockets of good things every now and again, kind of like what we've seen from Star Wars lately.

1:17:09Rather than being a juggernaut franchise of its own, where everything Game of Thrones does well because the show not sticking the landing, I think, really hurt the potential for that property going forward. Will video game movie properties be on the MCU level of popularity? Call of duty movie, Warhammer, God of War shows. I don't know if I put them on the MCU level of proper popularity. I think that there are definitely some potentials. I mean, you know, like a call of duty movie, I think would do pretty good, but like a consistent MCU level of popularity. I don't see that happening. I think that there are a few adaptations that could pop up and do MCU like numbers, but I don't see video game movies kind of replacing the MCU as that, as that sort of consistent money maker for years and years and years. Yeah. Yes, cartographers for social equality going all the way back to the West Wing. Yes, that was the big block of cheese day. Cartographers for social equality.

He came back and he did supporting roles on TV and he did indie films and even Iron Man, you know, it was a risk from Marvel and you know getting cast as Iron Man when he got cast wasn't exactly like getting cast as Batman. So I and I like the way that he's used his voice since he's come back. He's largely a voice for positivity and he doesn't hide from his mistakes. He doesn't wallow in them, but he doesn't hide from them. So I mean, if you can talk about a comeback story, I'm with you. I don't know if you can get much better than Robert Danny Jr. because it's not just that he came back, but it's what he's done with that opportunity. And I think how he conducted himself on the road back that shows that, you know, you can be contrite and realistic and also find your way back.

Love to hear your thoughts on your favorites and how their films have changed over the years. Hmm, I mean, I did the live action Disney ranking. Would I ever do one of all the animated movies? I rewatched all of them for schmodeown purposes several years ago. Maybe, but so many of them are good. Yeah, it's tough when I think about ranking videos because when most of the movies are good, then it just becomes a video about like how good are these good movies? I like like the thing I'm doing right now. I like a property that has a wide swath of varying quality because then that's an interesting conversation because you've got movies that are up here and you've got movies that are all the way down here. And there's very few Disney movies I would say are all the way down here. If any. So, you know, I like to have that kind of up and down. It's why I do a lot of horror movie type things around Halloween that Valentine's Day around Halloween. It's why I've done Friday the 13th and Nightmare at Olm Street.

1:20:21And those kind of properties because the quality is so variant and there's so many different things to talk about. So I don't know if I do an animated ranking just for that reason. Tyler Anderson, 6641 says, if you ever seen the original Avatar, the last airbender. It's my favorite show to this day, but I'd be curious to hear your opinion having not grown up with it like much of its fan base. I have started watching the original Avatar, the last airbender a couple of times, but I've never stuck with it. And this is literally in the last five years or so. And that's not to write it off as kid stuff. It's just that it's never been something that I was just like, I've got to watch the next one. I've got to watch the next one. I'm going to clear my schedule and finish watching this. So you're right. I didn't grow up with it. I think it's for what I've seen, I think if I had if I had gotten to it younger, I would probably love it as much as everybody else did. I don't know if you're jumping into it as a full grown man in his late 30s, early 40s.

1:21:21If it holds that appeal of wanting to keep watching, keep watching, keep watching. But that's not me saying it's kid stuff. It's just I haven't cleared off the schedule for it. But I didn't dislike what I saw. It was good storytelling. It's just that it's a little tougher of a thing to jump into when you're that when you're that much older. I'm definitely excited to see it. Somebody I think in my on my fall preview video, which came out last week said, you didn't talk about that movie. Why not? I'm like, because nobody knew it existed when I did this video. It was a completely unknown quantity. Let's see. We'll grab one that's not a super chat. This is from a Gouldy as Shondamall says Chris Hansen's crusade against prime time definitely makes me interesting. Also makes me wonder if he's in cahoots with a 24. I am pretty confident he's not in cahoots with a 24. He said that he went to go see a 24 and they tried to make him sign some like labyrinthine legal thing that would sign away his rights in the 24 was like, no, it was an NDA, which is what we ask anybody to sign who sees the movie early. So who do you believe there?

1:24:43And now he's saying, you know, it's all made up. It's all fiction. And he was saying that, you know, Hollywood is Hollywood is the industry that covered for all of these predators for so long and now they're making this movie, which is not entirely untrue. But like he seems very. I think him being so skeptical of the movie in a way says to me that maybe there's a little bit more in there that's true than he would care to comment on. I don't think he's in cahoots with a 24, but it does make the situation a lot more interesting that that is that is on the top of my must see list for fall. I can't wait to see that and that has sleeper box office potential as well. So he's seeing 98 97. Well, I as I mentioned earlier, I thought about doing one for the fall holiday box office and may still on charts. I think the most I would do is three per year. I'd break it up into three four month chunks. So may through Labor Day would be the summer box office Labor Day through the end of the year would be holiday. Then January up until Memorial Day would be the winter spring box office.

1:25:51Any more than that, I think is just too much and that may even be too much. So I would say I mean summer obviously I already do fall holiday would be the next most likely and then I'd say it's a much longer shot for me to do the first four months of the year just because it's like, you know, it's the slowest part of the year, I think. Phil Smith says hi, Dan, thoughts on the new digger trailer and how do you think it'll do critically or at the box office. I didn't actually didn't watch the new digger trailer because I have saw enough to make me interested in the movie now I may see it in front of another movie that I go see, especially if I go see practical magic later this week. But I didn't want to go out of my way to watch it. How do I think it'll do critically. I think that it's got it's one of the in yari to and I've been corrected. I'm trying to say it right in yari to. 1:26:53Um, he's divisive and that's not a bad thing necessarily. And I think that this to me feels like something that might be divisive even with critics, but also interesting, which I'm totally fine with box office wise, I am not, I mean, it's got Tom Cruise, which is great, but I'm not convinced of, um, it's wide, wide ranging profitability potential at the box office. We'll see. I don't know. We'll see. Uh, Guldi Shunnamal says get out was the busiest movie of the year and still struggled with the old guard academy voters. I mean, maybe we don't know. I don't know what the what the voting breakdowns were. Um, I, uh, it's still one best original screenplay. So and it got some nominations. I don't I'm not saying the ending of right is going to win best actors, but I think she's got a good shot of being nominated. And I think I think Daniel Kulu, he was nominated for get out. 1:29:08I mean, growing up and I think it's still on every year, but like it was an event every year when the Charlie Brown Christmas specials on usually ABC, if I recall correctly. So that's the one I've watched the most, the great pumpkin I've watched a lot. I don't know if I've really watched any of the other, um, end of the other Charlie Brown specials. I think that it's mostly been the Christmas one for me, but I think that's a classic. So he's seeing 98 97 says thoughts on Snyder and Campy. Um, I talked about Snyder earlier in the show. Uh, Campy, I kind of cut a brief idea. I guess there's something about what he said, but I, you know, I don't want to get too deep in the weeds on my thoughts on other YouTubers and there's, it's just not, I just don't like doing that. And I think that was kind of part of John's thing, I guess, and then he, people didn't like that he said that. You know, everybody should do what they feel comfortable with doing. Um, you know, I feel like I was with Snyder, I kind of gave a pretty detailed summary of what I thought.

1:30:08And with Campy, I mean, it's his channel. He can do what he wants to do. Uh, I don't, I don't really have any thoughts on any choice that he might make. And again, I don't really know that much. I've heard some things in passing. I don't even know if there's any updates to that. So no thoughts other than what I've already said. There at 2995, thanks for the Super Chat says with the success of the Odyssey, do you think Nolan should tackle another epic? Maybe we can finally get an amazing video game adaptation, Awa uncharted. I mean, Nolan has kind of made it so that any movie he makes is an epic. I think what, what we've really seen is that he should tackle something that he is personally very passionate about because, you know, Oppenheimer was certainly not a home run. The Odyssey was a home run, either. I mean, three hour home adaptation is not a, is not an absolute knock out of the park home run thing. So I'm kind of reticent to say what Christopher Nolan should do next because I think that he and what I like about him is he kind of waits to see what captures his imagination.

1:31:11What I love to see him take on another story of that caliber. Sure. There's not many of them out there. But I would love, I'd love to see that. But I think he's gotten to a point now where he makes any movie he makes epic. I mean, tenant, I think was epic in its own right. And I'd love to see him just like, wait and, you know, what does he want to do? But if you were to come out and say like, I'm, you know, taking not that he should do this. If, if you were to come out and say I'm doing a story like Lawrence of Arabia, not remaking Lawrence of Arabia, because it doesn't need to be remade. But an epic story like Lawrence of Arabia, I'd be delighted or something like Dindy, they'll know of taking on Dune or property like that. I'd be absolutely delighted. But I would be more delighted with whatever it is he feels like he just wants to say as a storyteller. 1:32:14I think, I mean, the calling Hooper of it all, I think it's got a great potential to be a box office hit. I don't know much about the book or the story, but the calling Hooper adaptations have done pretty well. Will I review the fix and Charlie Harper? Those movies don't immediately jump to mind, but it's very possible. It's very possible I could review any movie. It's just about, did I like it? Do I have time to do the review? Do I feel strongly enough to make a review? So as we get into the fall, more and more movies kind of fall into that thing of just like, wait, which one is that? And I have to go back. But yeah, if I love the movie enough and want to talk about it, sure. Brent and C says, have you ever fallen asleep in a movie theater? If so, do you remember which movie? Thanks. The internet needs more rational unbiased voices like you. I appreciate that. And thank you for the super chat. Have I ever fallen, yeah, especially as I've gotten older, I have fallen asleep in a movie theater. I have fallen asleep during movies that I reviewed. Not for long, for like maybe five minutes before and and it didn't affect my review, because as you can imagine, me falling asleep in a movie is not a great indication of how well that movie is doing.

1:33:21I think those five minutes that I missed would have been very consequential to my thoughts on the movie. The one that jumps to mine and it's because I drove to I think St. Louis to see it, if not Kansas City. And I was very tired was I did fall asleep for five minutes or so in the middle of the Super Mario Galaxy movie. I'll admit it. I did it. If I felt like it had affected my opinion of the movie in any way, I would have just not done the review and taken the hit, but I felt like I didn't miss anything that was critical to the overall opinion, but I did fall asleep for a few minutes in the middle of the last one. And what can you do? Just I'm on see says, when do you see resident evil? How will it do? Well, I have to decide that I have a chance to see resident evil on next week before release. And get my review out at the embargo time, but it's a five hour drive one way to see it. And with all the traveling I've been doing and I'm in the middle of like two big projects.

1:34:21I just don't know if a it would be financially worth me going to see it that early or B if I just have time in my schedule to do that because it's five hours one way a movie and when it's a five hour drive, it's also usually stopping and spending the night somewhere on the way back. And getting the review out that night and I basically lose two days to that kind of movie because I'm going to be up late doing a review, which means that I'm going to get a late start the next day. So I haven't made up my mind yet, but I think that it's likely I will go see it when it opens and then I'll have my review out on on that Friday. How do I think it'll do? I mean, I think it's got a lot of potential. I kind of feel bad for how much flack apparently that craggers been taking from video game fans who have yet to see the movie. So I think it's a really, really good movie attached to that name. It's got great potential to do well. Saheep Singh 9897 says thoughts on 70 millimeter I'm actually for the OG Star Wars and starfighter. I talked about that a little bit.

1:35:23I mean, the thing with 70 millimeter I max on with star wars is you don't have the master. I mean, I know they're probably doing a remaster of it, but it's going to look cool, but I don't know if it's it's going to look amazing in 70 millimeter because you're going to be blowing up a pretty old master. Even if you do a full restoration starfighter, I think could look great. I just think you have to be careful not to overuse the 70 millimeter thing because at a certain point if everything's in 70 millimeter, then you lose out on the. You lose out on the potential of movies like the Odyssey, which I think are really made for 70 millimeter to then be able to break through that noise. And it's kind of what happened with 3D. So I think that studios have to be careful about 70 millimeter. It's not an infinite money glitch perpetually and it could hurt filmmakers that are that are specifically making their movies for that format. But if if Disney thinks that's going to help their releases, then yeah, sure, why not. Would I go see Star Wars and 70 millimeter I max. Maybe.

1:36:25But it would it would just be big like I don't think it would take full advantage of that format because it's it's kind of constrained by the era in which it was shot. It can only look so good, so big. Alright, man, I'm catching up slowly, but surely we're already at over an hour and a half. So if you don't mind. Well, I'll tell you calm down rich. It was a little bit cooler when I was in LA was warming up as I left, but I we have the same weather here in Arkansas, except there's no rain like we got in California on Sunday. And we have crazy humidity. So for example, last night, I landed at about I think nine o'clock or nine thirty. And it was 80 degrees and or 84 degrees and it felt like 90 at nine o'clock at night.

1:37:35So I am missing that 104 degree weather in Los Angeles, but the problem is the weather is worse here and will be for a while we've had a miserable, miserable summer here in Arkansas with no rain, which is, which is unheard of for the summer, not even not even summer thunderstorms like that I've never remember being in Arkansas in the summer where we've had as little rain as we've had this year. Goldish animal, Dan lives in flavor town. Yeah, well, you know, I do part of the time. I do part of the time living in flavor town. I don't mind. I'll admit to it. It's funny. I worked at a company that I may or may not have worked at right before I started this channel where they were putting in or we were there was a new facility and they went came to us at screen junkies and said, hey, you guys get to name one of the conference rooms. So you know, name it something fun name it something, you know, kind of cool and zany and we were like, okay, and so Spencer Joe and I and I think Daniel and one all of us put our heads together and we said, okay, we got the name for the conference room and they're like, what is it? We're like flavor town.

1:38:42I think Spencer suggested it like it's called flavor town, which we thought was hilarious. And they're like, oh, well, we were thinking something like the Millennium Falcon or the Enterprise. And we're like, no, like you said we can name anything we wanted. Like we want to name it flavor town. They're like, yeah, and I think they went with something that was kind of more pop culture, but we were very upset that we didn't get the name of the conference room flavor town. Drew Skizzy says we watch NFL tonight. Go Jags this season. I may as I mentioned, I've got charts to do and I've got I've got like about let's see how many movies do I have left to watch for this project that I stupidly 28 movies left to watch for this project. Then I'm trying to get together for Halloween and that's going to be more than one movie a day. But I may I try to make room for football because I love watching football. I'm a big football fan. Most people don't know that about me, but I am actually a huge American football fan and I enjoyed our international version of football with the World Cup this year. So maybe it's a qualified maybe if I'm prepping and stuff, I may have it on the background.

My thoughts go weird again the quick and the evil dead well that was kind of my thought with evil dead burn rise to me had that sort of very dark sense of humor to it that I think the best evil dead movies do.

1:40:46And burn felt a little bit to self serious in my opinion and like it lost that little bit of fun so I would agree I think that if you start making the evil dead just a generic horror franchise it's going to lose that novelty very quickly you need that sort of chaos. And that dark sense of right rainy asks sense of humor to kind of have evil dead set itself apart and I'm hoping with the new with wrath that they return some of that because I agree with you a little bit I liked evil dead burn. But I didn't like it as much as I liked evil dead rise and I felt it's because it lost some of that kind of manic weird energy and felt a lot more like a. Like a kind of generic I guess if you were horror movie but it's still had enough of those those elements that I was like it doesn't feel like every horror movie but it is starting to feel a little bit same. It's just the puppet so I wouldn't want you know just the voice over from John Kramer like it would have to be like there's a crime scene and there's cops going around and then the little puppet comes in on the tricycle it's just like what's the problem here officers and actually does jigsaw solves a crime thing but I don't know if that would be like bumbling that would be kind of effective. Chuckie I can see Chuckie and a little and a little detectives hat and a little no pad doing a doing a crime scene but he's an agent of chaos so how how would he really be committed to solving a crime art the clown.

1:44:07He could maybe solve the crime as a bit may you know so yeah maybe art the clown but like your Jason's your Michael Myers is. There's not much to work with there there's not much bumbling going on there so you know I would throw that kind of element out completely pinhead I don't think he sees a little too serious so I say it's probably between jigs in my mind I'd say it's between jigsaw art the clown and Chuckie. Give me a pilot for each one of those Christopher Brickner thank you again says do you think the standard length and pacing of many older films like Dr. Javago makes it harder for modern audiences to get. Into them well I don't know if it makes it harder for any modern audiences to get into them I think it makes it harder for modern audiences to start watching them all together I will stand by the fact that if you if you can get someone to sit down and start watching Lawrence of Arabia that they'll enjoy it the problem is it's a hard sell hey do you want to watch this 60 plus year old four hour movie about a guy in the desert that's a hard sell.

1:45:14So I don't think necessarily that the that the long run time it keeps people from getting into them I think it's a barrier to entry although there are some older movies that are dated I mean that I like the 10 commandments because I grew up with the 10 commandments but it does feel dated it's not timeless like Lawrence of Arabia it is a very long movie and it feels melodramatic and a bit you know kind of from another era of Hollywood is not a bad movie but I could see somebody saying like what I'm going to say. I can see somebody saying like what is this it feels too old but I'd say it's a bigger barrier to entry than someone not getting into it. Jason Webster 9300 thank you says it's a great year internationally for horror and sci-fi films with colony obsession project Hail Mary and Hope how close will the Oscar tech categories be next year in determining winners well it just kind of depends on you know I mean doon is obviously the 800 pound gorilla in that category we've got Godzilla coming back I think Godzilla was the beneficiary of the strikes and not having to compete with doon let's be honest of Godzilla minus one and doon part two had competed at the Oscars Godzilla minus one would not have won the Oscar it's just because it was moved out of that year because of the strikes.

1:46:26So I think that I think it's very likely it's going to be very close competition I mean we'll see what I mean project Hail Mary I think has a lot to bring to the table do Messiah we'll see what it brings to the table the Odyssey is going to be a huge factor in all of the technical categories this year I think it's going to be a bit of a knockdown dragout. Christopher Brickner says what if what if the 2027 re-release of Star Wars a new hope out grosses Star Wars Starfighter it could happen look how good revenge of the Sith re-released it I mean revenge of the Sith re-released it well but it didn't like that would require I think Star Wars Starfighter to make less than a hundred million dollars and I even with the Mandalorian and Grogu I just have to say I'm going to be a little bit more of a hard time believing that's going to happen I don't I would be more than shocked if the re-release of Star Wars made more than Star Wars Starfighter and maybe I'll be eating crow and eating my words but I think that would have to be an exceptional over performance from Star Wars 77 and an exceptional under performance from Starfighter.

I don't know what the criteria is for a quote unquote real critic and somebody who is not a real critic I would not certainly put myself on that sort of kind of stratified level of like I'm a real critic and these people aren't real critics I think that I don't know I think that's kind of a nebulous definition but that's very nice of him to say are there any critics that I'm a fan of I mean Roger Ebert is always the one I talk about he was and continues to be a huge influence on me in my critical perspective I still go back to the

1:49:49director's reviews because I admire his writing on film or if I'm stuck on something I like well how did Ebert describe this similar movie and how did he write about it or or what tone did he strike I don't think that he was perfect by any means I thought he was totally wrong on a lot of things did agree with him at all but I still admired the way he talked about it. I don't really take in a lot of film criticism now because I am a critic and by the time I have my review out, most of the critics have already spoken and I don't want to take in what other critics say before I see a film because I don't want their thoughts floating around in my head. So there aren't a whole lot of critics now that I take in. There are critics who I kind of admire their perspective. David Erlich is one of them. He is a critic who I very often vehemently disagree with. But I respect the fact that he puts both feet down and says what he thinks and he doesn't

1:50:49care what anybody else says. And maybe even a little over the top sometimes. But I love someone who's just unapologetic about their viewpoint on a film and then don't care whether it's going to be popular or not or well received or not. This is just what they think. So that mentality is something that I think is admirable even if I don't always agree with his thoughts on a movie and sometimes I'm like, oh wow man, come on. But it doesn't read a cynical to me. It's just like this is just what he thinks even if it's extreme and way out there. But there's not a whole lot of ones that I like and I've said this before. If I'm going to watch people sit and talk about movies, it's probably going to be red letter media. I've been a fan of them for years and years and years. And by the time they get around talking about most movies, it's sometimes a week or weeks or months after movies come out. And I just love Jay and Mike particularly. I mean, Rich will jump in from time to time or if you do best of the worst, obviously, but Jay and Mike on half in the bag, I just love their dynamic with each other, their personal dynamic.

1:51:50And again, I don't always agree with them. But I think that they actually do analyze film in a respectable, critical way. I would say they're just as much of a critic as I am. And anybody who can really analyze film and is able to share those thoughts in an engaging manner or in a direct, clear manner is as much a critic as I am. So that's pretty much the extent of my film criticism just because I try not to take too much in before I'm doing what I do. 1:52:52I thought about that. So if you didn't know on Monday night, Florida State was playing their, not their first home game, but it was the only game on on Labor Day Night. And a transformer blew up outside the stadium and the stadium lost power. Which when you're playing a night game, playing without power is not something you can do. And so I think there was like an hour, 45 minute delay in the game kicking off. They got some of the power back on, but I think that there were like the PA system didn't work. Some of the lights didn't work. The headsets didn't work. So you saw like our coaches on walkie talkies. I don't think the in-ear helmet things worked for the quarterback. So they were really like a half percent. And I did think like, is this a Florida State thing? Is this like a, like an FSU curse? Yeah. That's a, yeah. Goldish animal, it's not out of the realm of possibility. Goldish animal says at the movies, just, Iberian Siskel is great.

1:53:54There are a lot of episodes up on YouTube. There are. There are some, if I have a free afternoon sometimes, I'll sit and watch old episodes of Siskel and Iber. Just because I think that it's just so great to watch them. Fixing clips. Thank you for the super chat. It says, can you talk about your time at Channel 101 more? How you got started there, et cetera. Me and my friends submitted a video way back when and it was terrible. Well, I don't really know where to start. If you don't know what Channel 101 is, briefly, and they're still, it's still going on in Los Angeles. It was started in 2003, I believe, by Dan Harmon, who went on to do community and Rick and Morty, and Rob Schrob, who is a great director and has done, he, I worked for him actually on Sarah Silverman, the Sarah Silverman program on Comedy Central when he was directing it. I was his assistant for a season. He's done these directed, a lot of TV shows. I think you're directing some of community, a lot of episodes. He does some of the craziest visual stuff you've ever seen. One of the most creative people I've ever met, they created this thing called Channel 101

1:54:55where every month, at the end of the month, people get together at a bar. At that time, it was at a bar and people would submit five minute TV shows and it was like it was supposed to be not like a, not like a skit. It was like an episode of a TV show so that if you got picked up, then you would make the second episode of that show. And then so five new shows would come in every month. And then the five shows that got the most votes at the last month's screening would come back with their next episode. So at the end of every screening, you vote for your five favorite and the top five vote getters would come back. And so you would have a screening that was like five new shows and then like episode two of this five minute show, episode seven of this five minute show. And then you'd vote at the end and some shows we get canceled and some shows we get picked up and brought back for another month. And it was so much fun. The only rule was that it had to be five minutes or less. If you went one second over five minutes, then you were disqualified and you could submit a show and then the people who were the creators of the current shows would watch everything that was submitted and they'd pick the five that would compete at that month's screening.

1:56:00And when I moved to channel one or sorry, when I moved to Los Angeles in 2005, I knew one person in Los Angeles as a friend of my name, Rod, who I went to college with. He was roommates with one of his friends from college whose name was Drew Hancock, who was already doing channel 101 stuff. Drew Hancock directed a companion. He's directed some great stuff now written and directed some stuff, really, really interesting stuff. And I'm happy to see that he's getting movies made now. So he was like, well, come to channel 101 with me this month. So I went and most of my friends in Los Angeles, especially my first couple of years were people from channel 101 and the number like the Lonely Island got their start. You know, they were making their own stuff, but they made stuff for channel 101 up until the time they went to SNL. Randall Park did stuff for channel 101. Yacht Rock as a concept started out as a channel 101 show. It was a channel 101 show called Yacht Rock. Yacht Rock, the music genre did not exist before that show.

1:57:03And it now is like a cultural thing. Just the number of people when you see who made stuff at channel 101 over the years is absolutely insane. And so I went for years and years and years and just because eventually those are my friends. I made a few shows myself. Some of them didn't get in. Some of them did get in. I had one show that got into prime time, I think for one month or maybe two months. There was one show that didn't get voted back, but the people really liked that we want to, they call them the Channy Awards, which we give out at the end of every year. It was just an excuse to get together and kind of what I was saying before, just making something and putting it in front of people and then you get a real time reaction to it. People laugh or they don't laugh, you get voted back or you don't get voted back. But it was really just this expression of true creativity and being on the clock. If you got your show voted back at the end of that month, you had to have another episode ready. So you had to write it, you had to get it made. And it was a reason for people to be creative. And there was some incredible stuff that came out of Channel 101. And there was some stuff that's not great.

1:58:04And there was some stuff that I'm sure if you go back and look at it, it's like, oh, because I mean, we know this is, we're talking mid-2000s on. So, you know, sensibilities have changed, obviously. But it was so much fun. And I eventually, I think, sometime around, I don't know, around 2010, I had a friend of mine who was putting the screening together every month who wanted to move on and do other things because it was very time consuming to do that kind of stuff. So I kind of took over putting the screenings together. So for a few years, I would collect all of the shows. So when the people that were making their shows finished, I would get the shows from them and the people, the new shows that got in, I would get the tapes or the drives eventually. And I would put the screening together. So I would assemble everything in a timeline. Eventually, I would also make little interstitial bits for the screening that kind of fill in between shows. And sort of be the person that kind of made sure that the timeline was right. It got delivered to the theater. I would count the votes at the end of the night.

1:59:06So, you know, whereas I didn't really, it was filled with people that were more talented and funnier than I was. So my contribution was to sort of help with the logistics side of things. And so I did that for several years. And then kind of transitioned as I got busier at screen junkies that job transitioned to somebody else. And I just remained as a fan. Channel 101 was one of the best things that ever happened to me and the people I met through it. I just, one of the things I did in Los Angeles when I was back was my fantasy football draft. I've been in the same fantasy football league for 20 years. All of the people in that league, I know it from Channel 101. And they've been friends of mine for 20 plus years now. It really was something amazing. And it still is. Like I said, they still do it every month. And I admire the people that keep it going. But it changed my life in a lot of different ways, including, again, as I think I mentioned earlier, I was a freelance editor. And my network of people, when I went freelance, a lot of them were Channel 101 people.

2:00:06When I put stuff out on social media or texting and calling people, they were friends that I knew from Channel 101. And one of those friends was Brett Weiner, who made stuff for Channel 101 as well. He had a few shows in prime time. And he was working at what was then a break media. And he was working on screen junkies. And he knew I was a freelance editor and brought me into the screen junkie show. And I started doing that two days a week. And then for the for the Channel 101 awards ceremony one year, I edited a fake trailer for Channel 101, the movie. And Brett saw that. And he was like, you edited that trailer? I'm like, yeah, he's like, oh, if you know trailer editing, do you want to try editing on his trailers too? And I was like, yeah, sure. And so that got me at Screen Junkies full time. And we went from there. So I literally owe my career to the people in the contacts that I met at Channel 101 because they gave me both the networking ability and a lot of the skills. I wouldn't have made that trailer if it wasn't for the Channel 101 award show to transition into what I'm doing.

2:01:08So it's why I always say, find your people, find a group of people, find a social network because especially if you're a creative, it's so important to find people that you can create with and compare notes with and fail with and succeed with because it's always an up and down thing. Somebody's up, someone's down, somebody's down, somebody's up. And you need that network of people. So I can't talk about Channel 101 enough. I probably have talked about it too much already. But yeah, it was one of the most substantial things that I've ever done in my life. And I loved it every second of it, even though it was sometimes hard work and stressful, getting the screenies together and stuff. I was happy to do it because I played a, you know, you know, this particular role in getting that stuff in front of people and seeing people laugh and, and yeah, I was just, I loved it. It was so much fun. It was a highlight of my month every month. Primal Plasma says, have you seen Neil Brains dire duplicity yet? I'm not. I actually have never seen a Neil Brain film. 2:04:11I've always wanted to see him in concert. So we may have the same bucket list thing because I also finally saw Weird Al in concert and it was a great time. Try to think the, I mean, well, okay, Sundance. I would say probably the most recent thing is going to cover Sundance in Park City, particularly in Park City. I've always wanted to go to Sundance when I talked about going to a festival. Sundance was the one I talked about doing and getting to actually go and cover it in person in Park City was 100% a bucket list moment. So that would be the most recent. And I have a lot of you to thank for that because without all of you supporting the channel, like you do and watching and asking questions and sharing the videos and everything else, I wouldn't be able to go cover things like Sundance because I wouldn't have a platform.
