Luca's Tragic Suicide: AI's Role in Mental Health

On March 31st, 17-year-old Luca from Yately in Hampshire died by suicide on May 4th, 2025,

after walking onto train tracks.

The night before at around 12.30 a.m., he used chat GPT to ask for detailed ways to end

his life on railways, bypassing the bot's safety prompts.

A police investigator called the chat logs chilling, noting how easily a gay specifics

despite built-in help referrals.

Luca seemed happy that morning, telling his parents he was heading to his lifeguard job

before leaving home at 10 a.m.

No one knew his mental struggles had deepened.

He had notes on his phone with farewell messages to family and friends, plus regrets from

a tough time at his old boarding school, Lord Wandsworth, college.

two years earlier, a close friend died the same way on tracks.
