Man Convicted for Banned Dog's Fatal Attack

On March 31st, a 31-year-old man named Sean Garner just got convicted in Liverpool Crown Court for owning an Excel bully dog that fatally attacked an 84-year-old pensioner named John McColle.

The attack happened on February 24th last year in Warrington, Cheshire, when McColle wandered on to Garner's driveway.

The dog, named Toretto, mauled him badly, and McColle died from his injuries about a month later.

Garner had already admitted to possessing the ban male Excel bully and another female of the same breed without the required exemption certificate.

He denied the main charge of the dog being dangerously out of control, but the jury didn't buy it after hearing how the animal savaged McColle like.

Prey and had to be shot 10 times by police to stop the attack.

Neighbors tried everything from spirit levels to walking sticks to pull the dog off, showing the chaos that unfolded.

Garner claimed he took steps to keep the dog secure and even accused the victim of letting the dog out, but prosecutors called that nonsense and painted him as a reckless liar.

In court, they revealed Garner from Bellevale in Liverpool had advertised another Excel bully for breeding on Instagram despite the breed being banned.

Since 2024, he also has prior convictions for driving offenses and drug possession with intent to supply.

Sentencing comes up on April 17th, so we'll see what Judge lays down next in this tragic case that highlights the dangers of these powerful.
