Matthews Out 12 Weeks, Leafs Miss Playoffs

0:00With the NHL today, March 19th, the Toronto Maple Leafs just shared a big update on their star center and captain, Austin Matthews. He had surgery in New York City for a grade 3 MCL tear, and doctors expect him to need about 12 weeks to recover. The injury happened during a game against the Anaheim Ducks on March 12th. Matthews took a hit from Ducks' defenseman, Radkogutis, who got a major penalty for Neem right on the spot. Meanwhile, the NHL stepped in and suspended Gutis for five games. He's still serving that time out as the league wraps up its review. For the Leafs, this means Matthews misses the rest of the regular season. The team is set to skip the playoffs for the first time since the 2015-6 season.
