What's up everyone and welcome back to the program. In our last episode, we were talking about the four hour gap that the police were trying to piece together. Well, we have another episode, another article that adds a little more context to that and goes a little bit deeper. So let's dive into this article from the daily mail and let's see what they came up with. Headline Idaho cop zero in on movements of the murdered student couple who attended in the warehouse hours before there and their two roommates were stabbed to death in their beds. This article was authored by Keith Griffith. Police in Idaho say they are now seeking more information on the earlier movements of two of the college students killed in a quadruple homicide last month as they deny telling

3:06the family of victim Kayleigh Gonsolviz that her injuries were more brutal than those of the other victims. And that was part of the statement that the Moscow police released yesterday that I read earlier today. And it was basically them refuting what we had heard from Steve Gonsolviz. So you can take from that what you will. I want to provide both sides of the story here, both sides of the coin and like usual, let you folks decide what you believe and what you think happened and feel free to shoot me some emails and tell me what you think. In its latest statement on the November 13th murders, the Moscow police department said on Monday it is probing the movements of victims Ethan Chapin and Zana Kernotal who visited Ethan's fraternity house hours before the murders. Police believe Ethan and Zana visited the Sigma Kai house on the University of Idaho's campus from about 9 p.m. on November 12 until around 145 a.m. when they returned to

4:10Zana's off campus home, just a brief walk away. So if they think they were there, right, and they were there for that whole entire time period, shouldn't they be able to put together this timeline relatively easily by piecing together stories from people who are at this party as well. Unless of course everybody is clamped up and nobody wants to talk to the investigators. I guess that's a possibility. I haven't heard that that happened yet. So that's not me saying that's what occurred, but it's certainly a possibility. That actually seems to be one of the larger areas that we don't have a lot of information in Idaho State Police Communications Director Aaron Snell told Good Morning America. So Aaron Snell did another interview with Good Morning America and I'll post that link in the description box as well so you can keep up to date. So being able to locate what they did last night to maybe who they contacted, maybe any routes they took home, that would be important to the investigation he added and it sucks

5:13that there's not more cameras surveillance cameras in the area because that would help them establish at the very least which route they took home. But it doesn't seem that they have access to a large variety of the surveillance cameras like I know here in my neighborhood just about all of my neighbors have them, but I guess that's not the case in Moscow. Ethan and Zana 20 who were dating were stabbed to death along with Zana's roommates Kaylee Gon-Solves and Madison Mogen in the home they shared likely while they were sleeping. Police still have no suspects and no murder weapon. Earlier appeals to the public had focused on Kaylee and Madison's activities on the night of the murders which involved stops at a sports bar and the food truck. So we have went over those movements with a fine tooth comb at this point. I mean if you even lived out a house that they walked by somebody has accused you of being the killer at this point. So everybody's looked and delved into what Madison and Kaylee were doing, but at the same

6:18time we have this huge gap in the timeline for Ethan and Zana so that has to be filled in. Meanwhile tensions grew further between investigators and the families of the victims who have spoken out in frustration about the failure to identify a suspect. Kaylee's father, Stephen, previously told news nations Brian Enten that police had told him her injuries were worse than the other victims, but he didn't go into detail. That remark in their new statement saying with the active criminal investigation law enforcement has not released additional facts to the family or the public and again I don't think that they will at this point. We considering how vocal Mr. Gon Salva says been with the whole entire investigation. The police obviously do not want to divulge too much of their information if they believe that it's going to get to the media because according to them and their narrative that's what they're trying to avoid. There have been statements and speculation about this case, victim injuries, cause of death,

7:23evidence collection and processing and investigative techniques. The statement added. However, we firmly believe speculation and unveted information is a disservice to the victims, their families and our community. It continued. Echoing a refrain from prior statements as a small town department leading the investigation has come under increasing criticism. The Moscow Police Department is committed to providing information whenever possible, but not at the expense of compromising the investigation and prosecution. The department said. Police also said they looked into the theory that Kayleigh had a stalker as they continued to search for answers three weeks after four University of Idaho students were murdered at their off-campus house on November 13. Police said that in mid-October two males appeared to follow Kayleigh inside, the local Moscow business and then followed her out to her car but made no contact. After speaking with the two males, police determined it to be an isolated incident and said

8:27there was no evidence to suggest they were involved in the murders. And I said earlier, I'm not going to digress and go into it again, but it seems to me that we just got two college aged dudes here that are out trolling looking for some girls. I mean, what else are you going to do in this small ass town? Go to the bar, look for women, have some drinks and what? Go to school. Not really much else to do. I'm guessing. Police contacted both males and learned that the two were attempting to meet women at the business which was corroborated through additional investigation. Police also revealed on Monday that there was no evidence found on Goncalbus dog Murphy who was found at the scene. It has not yet been determined what room the dog was in when the murders took place. During the search of the home, a dog was found in a room where the crimes had not been committed according to the release. Officers did not find any evidence on the dog and knowing the occasion the animal had entered the crime scene.

9:28The dog was taken to animal services and released to a responsible person. Three weeks after the grizzly murders, few answers have come out and authorities have yet to name a suspect or even a person of interest in the case. Kaley and Madison were sleeping on the third floor and Zana and Ethan were on the second floor. The cops said the killer entered the house through a sliding glass door on the second floor which was level with the backyard. Now I haven't heard the authorities say that yet. That's what we're all guessing and that's what the likeliest entry point was but I haven't heard the actual investigators come out and say that. Two other roommates were in the house but were unharmed and unaware of the attack occurred. They were sleeping on the first floor. Officers have sifted through more than 2,645 email tips, 2,770 phone tips and 1,084 digital media submissions according to the most recent update and I'm going to continue

10:28to post those updates, those press releases as they come out word for word so that there's no confusion about where things stand, right? That's the official narrative. That's the official storyline of what's going on and everything else besides that can be considered speculation. We believe someone has information that will add context to the picture investigators are creating of what occurred that evening. Moscow police said in a statement on Monday and to me it seems like they think that somebody somewhere, mainly at this Sigma Chihouse, might have some information for them that hasn't come forward yet and they're slightly inferring that that might be the case because people might be scared that they'll get busted for drugs or they'll get busted for alcohol, you know, being in possession of or doing drugs or being drunk, whatever it is, when you're in college, that's how your brain works. You don't want to get in trouble. So you're saying to yourself, or these kids are, man, if I have some information, I might get in trouble for it. Well the police are saying, look, we don't care what you were doing.

11:31If you were doing some drugs, you were drunk in your underage, that's not what we're doing here. We're homicide police. We're looking for a murderer. Our focus is the investigation, not the activities. Your information, whether you believe it is significant or not, might be one of the puzzle pieces that help solve these murders. Last week Idaho State Police spokesman, Aaron Snell told DailyMail.com that it's possible all four victims could have been intended targets of the gruesome November 13 stabings. Yeah, anything's possible at this point. In a good investigation, it won't rule anything out until it's been ruled out. So they could, they could all be targets. Only one of them could be a target. Two of them could have been targets. Who knows? All topsy's determined the four students were stabbed to death, likely with a fixed blade knife and investigators checked with local stores to see if any had sold military style knives recently.

12:31Well, I always thought that that wouldn't yield any results. I mean, this person who had the knife, I doubt they bought it the day before they had this knife previously. And I'm guessing bought it somewhere else or bought it online. We live in a time and place where you can buy anything online, basically. So the likelihood that this person purchased the knife locally or at a shop that could trace it back are slim to none in my opinion. However, you still have to explore that possibility as an investigator and it really shines a light on how much of an uphill climb this really is. So they got a piece this all together. They're trying to find out what went on at the Sigma Chi Party, you know, around the Sigma Chi Party and afterwards. And they don't have a full timeline bill yet for Zanna and for Ethan. And until they do that, it's going to be very difficult to determine what went on in the overall here. So we'll continue to see what we see and we'll continue to follow this as it evolves.

Ever since the arrest of Brian co burger, there has been a lot of talk about what the punishment might be if and when he is convicted and found guilty. And we have heard from Kayleeg on solace's family that they most certainly are going to push for the death penalty. And honestly, if it was my kid, I'd be pushing for the death penalty too. As I'd offer to take the burden away from the state by enacting that death penalty with my own two hands. Obviously, that would never be allowed by the state. So I take the next best thing, which is the state put in this son of a bitch to death. However, Zana's mom, Cara Northington, she has a different opinion about Brian co burger and what his punishment should be if he's convicted.

17:42And I understand this line of thinking as well. When you put somebody to death, their suffering is over. That's it. The party's done and they can move on with whatever transition happens after death. If you keep them boxed in a cell, however, they have to go through every day of their life thinking about and remembering their freedom and what it was like to be a free person. I would say think about their victims and the damage that they caused, but the vast majority of the sociopaths, these narcissists, they don't believe they did anything wrong. And if Brian co burger is convicted of these crimes, he certainly fits into that category. And sometimes people are just so evil that the last thing that you want to do is leave them alive. And whoever is responsible for these murders, the government says it's Brian co burger, the strong evidence certainly points to him. But whoever is responsible for these murders after the trial, I would think that as a family

18:45member, you would want them to face the hangman's news. But I can see somebody thinking that sitting in prison and rotting away for the next 65 or 70 years, he's a relatively young guy is pretty torturous as well. And frankly, I'm usually against the death penalty in most circumstances. I am not a big fan of it. I don't like the state having that kind of power and control over citizens. And I think it can lead to some bad things. However, I do believe that if a state has it on the books and something like this does occur, the prosecutor is almost obliged to go after the death penalty in my opinion. Never forget that these prosecutors are elected. So they have to look to the people who elected them and wonder what those people want. They're constituents. And my guess is most people in Idaho are going to want the death penalty here. Today's article is from Newsweek headline. Caracornotal reveals death penalty stands for daughter Zana's killer.

19:48This article was authored by Alex Phillips. The mother of one of the University of Idaho murder victims has said she does not support the death penalty, but she wants the accused Brian Colbergor to spend the rest of his days in prison and start contrast to the parents of Kaylegan solvus who said that they support the notion of him being put to death if found guilty. Now I wonder how Ethan's parents fall here from just the limited amount of knowledge that we have of them from what they've set out in public and stuff like that. I'm inclined to believe that Ethan's parents are not going to push for the death penalty. Now I have nothing to back that up. No evidence to back up that assertion, but from what we have seen of Ethan's parents, they just don't seem like the type that are going to want Old Testament style justice. Speaking to news nation on Thursday, Caracornotal was asked about the death penalty by presenter Ashley Banfield, the mother of Zana Kernotal, one of the victims responded.

20:52I want to see him pay for what he's done. I'm not interested in the death penalty. That's not who I am. I don't believe in that, but I do believe he should spend the rest of his days in prison. Well, I think we can all agree on that at the very least. If he's found guilty here, this dude should spend every last minute in prison. If he doesn't get the death penalty and I mean restrictive prison like BTK only out for an hour a day, only a few showers a week. No association with other prisoners. None of that stuff because you don't deserve it. Co burger, a 28 year old PhD student in criminal justice and criminology at Washington State University has been charged with four counts of first degree murder and burglary in connection with the slangs of students gone solvice, Caranotal, Madison Mogen and Ethan Chapan in Moscow, Idaho. All four were found dead on November 13th, 2022 in an off campus residence, the three women

21:53shared. Well burger has maintained his innocence, but as yet to officially enter a plea and we're all under the suspicion that he's going to enter a not guilty plea. That was the talk of his lawyer from Pennsylvania. You know, the guy that has been quiet since the gag order came out. Remember we were talking about that. There was a lot of focus on that gag order being expanded and covering not only prosecutors and defense attorneys working the case, but the lawyers of the families. And I said at the time that La Bar was also a target of that expanded gag order. And considering his silence as of late, my guess is that the gag order did restrict him as well. After his initial appearance in an Idaho court on January 5th, co burger was next seen in the courtroom on January 12th. He consented to wave his right to a speedy trial and his preliminary hearing date was set

22:54for June 26th. Court documents previously made public show police link co burger to the stabbing using DNA evidence on a knife sheath found in one of the bedrooms of the shared property and GPS signals from his cell phone. Almost like the way BTK got caught. Remember he was driving around at the home depot and he went and put the cereal box in the back of the car and the the person who won the car ended up throwing it out. And then when BTK cried about it saying, Oh, where you didn't get my last message and all of that jazz, they were able to track them using surveillance video that picked up the morons vehicle. Sounds a bit familiar. No. Caracorn Oodle who also goes by the surname Northington said in her first public interview since the murders that she had yet to decide whether she would attend the trial. It has to be hard to sit around and think about going to that trial and hearing about the way your daughter was murdered.

23:55I mean, that's the last thing anybody wants to sit through and hear, but I would have to force myself. I think to do that to get that closure and to be done with it and to not have all of the questions of the what happened, the what ifs, all of that stuff that runs through your head. I would have to go to the trial and as painful as it would be, I'd have to get that first hand knowledge to get closure. Now Cara Northington, she can be completely different, right? Her personality, the way she deals with trauma or different situations that pop up might be different. And everybody's going to be different with the way they deal with this stuff. We all know earlier in January, Christian Steve Gonsalvis told news nation in an interview that they were glad that we live in Idaho. One of 27 states where the death penalty stands, prosecutors have yet to state whether they intend to pursue a life sentence or capital punishment. And for me, at least it's pretty much a foregone conclusion that they're going to look

24:58for the death penalty. I don't see them going any other way here unless there's some kind of plea deal where a co burger admits that he did this and gives them some more information or whatever. But besides that, I don't even know why the state would even enter into a plea agreement with this guy at this point, considering the evidence that they have and what we think they have behind the scenes, it would seem like a stupid idea for the state to even entertain that idea at this point. And they should push all the way through and go for the death penalty in my opinion, referencing the former option. Steve Gonsalvis commented at the time, that's not a punishment equivalent to being killed. That's God's role. And if you want to play God's role, then you're going to have to go and answer to him. Recent reports suggest that an Instagram account belonging to co burger followed the three female victims of the attack and that he dined at the restaurant where a cur notal and mogen worked at servers. However, it remains unclear whether he had any contact with them.

26:01Look, we just don't know all of the details. And I won't sit here and tell you, oh, yeah, he had contact with them and they rejected him because I don't know that. But it seems likely that he was at that mad Greek seems likely that he was there to get a vegan pizza or whatever else he was getting to eat and came across these girls. And until somebody else can put together a scenario that fits better, my working theory is going to remain that he ran into them at the mad Greek and things progress from there. Next if she had a message for co burger, Caracurne Oatall said, I just want to know why. Why did he do this? Why did he take these kids? Why? What did they do to him? Because I can't imagine them doing anything that deserved for him to murder them. And I think that sums it up for all of us. All of us want to know why. Why would you do something like this? What would motivate you? What could these kids have possibly done to you to make you want to murder them?

27:02And folks, sometimes there's no rhyme or reason for any of it. And unfortunately, it seems to me that that's the road that this whole entire thing is on. So I don't expect any kind of groundbreaking statements from Brian co burger to give us any insight into why these murders were committed. Maybe later on down the road, someone like his old professor, Catherine Ramzland, will be able to talk to him or something like that. But I don't expect him to show any empathy, sympathy or any kind of help for the police or the prosecutors at this trial. I don't think his narcissism would allow it. So moving forward, the prosecutor is going to take all of this stuff into account, what the families want, what's best for the state. And ultimately, I believe that'll end up with this being a death penalty case. That's going to do it for this one. Well, over the weekend, in the CBS 48 hours special, the colonnotals broke their silence

31:13and talked about their loved one. And I can totally understand why they'd want to keep their privacy and not discuss what they're going through in public. Imagine this happening to you. And then in the aftermath of it, all of the media and everybody else trying to get an interview with you, trying to talk to you, beaten down your door, calling you all of it, it has to be overwhelming and it has to take a lot out of you. So I understand when family members don't want to deal with it. And then add it on top of that, the lunatic brigade that you find on the internet and you all know who I'm talking about when I say that. I'm talking about the tarot card readers, the spirit box people, the psychics, all the grifters who will do anything to make a buck. Those people have no shame and to the vast majority of people like that, this is nothing more than entertainment. That's all this is to them. They don't care about justice really. They don't care about the families getting the justice they deserve and having a little

And the Kernotel family is certainly aware of it. So instead of dealing with all that nonsense, they've just avoided it overall for the most part up until now. I've had listeners email me from places like Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Japan, South Africa, all email with questions about the murders in Moscow. So there's certainly an international flair here as well. They chose to take different paths when it came to that type of publicity. Madison Mogen 21, Kaylegan Salvis 21, Zanakernotel 20, and Ethan Chapin 20 were stabbed to death

34:22at a house near the University of Idaho campus in Moscow in the early morning hours of November 13th. Ryan Co. Burger 28, a Pennsylvania native, studying criminal justice and criminology at Washington State University, was arrested in December and has been charged with four counts of first degree murder and one count of burglary by the way. The Gon Salvis family has given dozens of interviews and said it conducted its own investigation into the killings and at higher an attorney Shannon Gray who has been active in a gag order fight. Chapin's mother has written a children's book about him and won on NBC's Today Show last year. Mogen's family got matching tattoos in her honor and joined with the Gon Salvis family and filing a precursor to a lawsuit against police, the university, and others. So you can see that there's a stark difference in how the families have reacted to this. And the Chapin family for the most part has completely withdrawn from the process and

35:26they've said they're going to let justice play out. They have faith in the justice system and they have faith that the killer of their son will be held accountable. So they're going to focus on Ethan's memory. They're going to focus on the foundation that was set up in Ethan's memory and they're going to keep it moving that way. The colonnotals however remain mostly out of the public eye asking for privacy when approached by media outlets. It changed over the weekend when Jasmine Kernodal and Jeff Kernodal, sister and father of the victim sat down for an interview for his CBS 48 hours episode that aired Saturday. She cared about people. Jeff Kernodal said she was a people person. She cared about her friends just as much as her family. And every time we hear about these kids and their lives and all the lives they touched, it launches me in the orbit just a little bit more. And I want the person responsible to be held accountable and I don't mean by being thrown

36:28in a jail cell for the rest of their lives. I'm talking helicopter trip volcano. Now obviously we're not going to get that. But if Brian Colberger is found guilty here, I don't know how anyone could argue with the death penalty. Jasmine 22 describes Zanna as fun and the blifting. Someone who took any bad situation and turned it into a good one. My sister Zanna Kernodal was one of the happiest, funniest people I've ever met, Jasmine said. I had the awesome privilege of growing up with her. Now for all of you out there who have siblings, think about waking up one day to the news that your brother or your sister has been brutally murdered while they're away at college and really think about that for a minute and think about how you would feel or how you would think you would feel and think about the whole that would be left in your life if that occurred. Well, that's the reality for all of these people here who lost loved ones and who will lost friends. So while this might be entertainment to people like the tarot card reader or people like

37:32the spirit box person or the other clowns who have made stuff up to the people who are actually living this, this is their reality. This is their new life. And they have to go on now without Ethan, Madison, Kaylee and Zanna ever being there ever again. No more holidays, no more phone calls, no more hugs, no more kisses, all of it gone in the blink of an eye. The two sisters were often mistaken as twins and remained best friends until her death according to CBS. The two had planned to launch a marketing business together. She would have been my maid of honor and I probably would have been hers, Jasmine said. It's sad to have to go through those moments without her. Father and sister remember the worst day. Jasmine was a senior at Washington State University in Pullman, the same school where a co-verger was a graduate student and lived just 15 minutes away from her sister. The CBS report pointed out.

38:32Have you been visiting Jasmine for college's Dad's Day weekend on November 12th and 13th? After he left on that Sunday, Jasmine began getting phone calls from Zanna's friends saying something bad had happened at the house on King Road. And I remember when we were covering this as it was happening and the absolute panic that we heard from the families. Remember they didn't know what happened, it wasn't the police who contacted them, it was friends who contacted them. So there was Bedlam in the wake of these murders. There's no doubt there was a lot of confusion and the Moscow Police Department were understandably caught on their back foot. We're talking about a place who hadn't had a murder since 2015. Then all of a sudden you have four college kids murdered in their home right next to campus. So yeah, the Moscow Police Department was up against it. But they did something that was very, very smart. And that is they buried their pride and they called in for some help. So they got the state police involved, they got the feds involved and from there the

39:36investigation was often running. But there is zero doubt that in the initial stages of this investigation things weren't locked and loaded. There was a lot of miscommunication. The investigators had to walk things back. So there was a ton of confusion in the initial stages of all of this happening. Jasmine said she quickly got in her car and called both her sister and Chapin who is dating her nodal over and over as she drove the Moscow. She also called her father. I hear crying, crying and just telling me to get back to Moscow and meet at Zanna's house. Jeff said, my heart drops instantly and I race back down there. Can you imagine what this poor man was going through as he drove back to Moscow? Can you imagine what Jasmine was going through? After they arrived, law enforcement quickly took them to a police station. Worse day of your life, your worst nightmare just happened, Jeff said, what do you do? You can't do a damn thing. Jasmine said she is still coming to terms with the death of her sister.

40:39I've had some dreams of her, Jasmine said. There's times where I prayed and I ask God to see her another time and I did. It just gives me peace knowing that she's okay. Some families fight to get cameras in the courtroom for the trial. Defense attorneys for Coburger have requested that the judge ban cameras from the courtroom saying news coverage could threaten his right to a fair trial. Laytah County prosecutor Bill Thompson also has asked the judge to remove cameras during the testimony of a number of young and vulnerable witnesses according to court documents. The Gonzalova family and members of the Kernotal family have gone against those wishes stating that they do not want camera restrictions, including a trial. Several media outlets including the Idaho Statesman, the East Idaho News.com and others have filed suit to maintain cameras inside of the courtroom. This case is surrounded by secrecy, set a statement issued by the Idaho Statesman by

41:42the Gonzalova family attorney on behalf of his clients and unnamed members of the Kernotal family. Everything is either sealed or redacted, no one knows anything about the case, which leads to speculation. The speculation is fueled by the secrecy surrounding everything that is filed and every hearing that is closed off to the media and the public. So it is vitally important that the trial be viewed publicly. It is important to the victim's family, relatives, community members and the public that this veil of secrecy be lifted at the trial. This not only ensures accountability for all the parties involved, but also helps the public maintain its faith in the justice system. And I do not disagree with any of that. And unless we're talking about national security, I think that just about every single trial should be open to the public like this and there should be some cameras in the courtroom. Now of course, there is going to be instances where that's just not feasible and that's

42:43completely understandable. But there should be a camera in every single courtroom, maybe just a wide shot so that the public can always go back and take a look at what went down. How many of these judges treat their own courtrooms like their own fiefdoms and with all the power that the state has at their hands, we have to make sure that we're keeping them accountable. So I think that in this instance, especially when there's so much secrecy and the families themselves are asking for cameras to be in the courtroom, I think that a wide shot at the very least should be something that judge judge. Okay. And I think we're going to have an answer on that relatively soon. So we'll see what happens tomorrow at the hearing and we'll see what judge judge decides. Now the Chapin family hasn't really been out front as far as speaking to the media or giving interviews or anything like that. So it certainly came as a shock to many people to see that Stacy Chapin was here at CrimeCon and not only that, but getting up and speaking during this session. So today that's what we're going to talk about in this article from the Daily Mail. Headline mom of Idaho murders victim Ethan Chapin shocks CrimeCon audience by making an emotional appearance during questions and answers after experts talk on the killings. Can you imagine how surreal that must be for Ethan Chapin's mother? To go and talk about her son who is 20 years old in the past tense, it has to be as if she's

47:55living somebody else's nightmare. It's hard to even imagine what these people are going through. This article was authored by James Gordon. The mother of Idaho murders victim Ethan Chapin has made an unexpected and emotional appearance at a packed auditorium at a true crime conference in Orlando. Stacy Chapin went up to an open mic where she introduced herself as Ethan's mother before sharing emotional and heartfelt sentiments about the four slaying students including her son. Ethan 20 was killed alongside his girlfriend Zana Kernotol 20, her housemates Kayley Gon Elvis 21 and her best friend Madison Mogan 21 on the 13th of November of 2022. Brian Coburger 28 has been charged with the murders with his trial currently set for October although it has since been postponed and that's something that we expected from the very beginning.

48:56There was no way that this trial was going to kick off on October 2nd. There's just way too much discovery to go through way too much evidence to go through and way too much contention between all sides involved for there to be a trial starting in October. They have to work out all of the details and there's still much to iron out as far as the court documents go and that's not even to mention all of these other little hearings that they have to have as this whole process works its way through the court. Chapin told the 3200 strong crowd that she did not see the presentation about the murders because it was too hard to watch but through tears expressed her gratitude to Joseph Scott Morgan, a forensic expert and host of the body bags podcast for his respectful remarks about the four students and I think that's very important for people to understand and remember. We're dealing with real people here and there are not just some names that are on the pages of some news story. These are people who have families who love them, mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers,

50:00friends, all of it and all of their lives have been absolutely upended by these murders. So as a journalist or a content creator it's always a good idea to be mindful of that while you're producing content and while you're talking about these stories. Chapin's surprise appearance occurred during a question and answer session following Morgan's presentation. I'm Stacy Chapin and I'm Ethan's mom she began. I want all of you to know that these were four of the greatest kids and all of the great things that you read about them are legitimately true. It's always been a challenge for me to hear people talk about Ethan who don't know him Chapin said. I can speak on behalf of my own son who was an incredible human and we miss them all terribly she said as her voice broke in front of a stunned audience. I can't tell you the respect I have for people that go through what miss Chapin is going through. No parent should ever lose a child, especially to a homicide. They were amazing, amazing kids in the prime of their life.

51:03Chapin said to applause who later explained how she felt compelled to speak up and make it known that Ethan's story was real and deeply personal to her. And when I rant about you know, tarot card readers and spirit box people and psychics and all the rest of it. This is why because we're talking about real people here. This isn't some kind of entertainment for people to make stuff up. Oh, yeah, I consulted my Ouija board. Give me a break already. How do you think the families feel when people are making light of it or when people are talking that bullshit like their nostradamus or something? Here's an idea. Sit down and shut up. The surprise appearance by Chapin left host Morgan moved. Yeah, I can see that. I've been left moved after some conversations I've had with Epstein survivors. Tell you what, what they went through and what they continue to go through is absolutely horrible. And I know for a fact firsthand from some of them how impactful some of these hit pieces

52:03have been in the media. So imagine if your child was murdered and then a bunch of stew nods on the internet, try to make it out like it was a cartel hit or like it was a murder suicide or insert stupid conspiracy theory here. My guess is none of us would appreciate that. But that's what people go through who are dealing with tragedy and unfortunately that's being driven by social media these days. I knew immediately that I needed to keep my mouth shut at this point because this woman more so than anybody at this conference relative to these Idaho cases she deserved to have a platform. Morgan said the Fox news and Mr. Morgan's not wrong about that. It's important for people who have suffered tragedy to have that platform available to them if they decide they want to get their message out. So I think that anytime that somebody who has suffered tragedy and you're covering their story if they're looking for a platform to talk about their story or about what happened to them.

53:03I think that it's a no brainer for you to open up whatever platform you have and give them the time and room to tell their story. Ethan Chapen was studying recreation, sport and tourism management at the University of Idaho when he was killed. He lived in the Sigma Chi fraternity house about 200 yards away from the home where he was stabbed to death. He had been visiting his girlfriends and a car nodal on the night of the murders. The man accused of carrying out the quadruple murder Brian Colbergor was a 28 year old criminology student at Washington State University. He has been charged in the home invasion attack that led to the deaths of the four students. And in the direct aftermath, it was crazy as they were looking for a suspect. There was all kinds of speculation about who it could have been and me personally. I was going with the statistics. I thought it would be somebody that was in their life previously. An ex boyfriend, a jilted lover, something like that.

54:05But once those people were all ruled out, it got to a point where we really didn't have any idea which way it was going to go. But behind the scenes, the investigators had all sorts of shit cook it. It's coalition. There was talk that this case was going cold. There was a lot of criticism of the Moscow police department, me included by the way, but my criticism was about the way they packaged their message. It wasn't so much the work they were doing because I wasn't privy to what was going on behind the scenes. But as far as their messaging, it was atrocious in the beginning. And at first they were doing these press conferences where they were shooting themselves in the foot on a regular basis, it seemed like. Then they started doing something a little bit more intelligent. And that's releasing these police reports, these updates on their website. So they had a time to curate those answers, curate those statements and get the messaging right. So once they started doing that, they really got things going in the right direction

55:08as far as communication with the public. But there has been a lot of contention between the prosecution, the investigators and the Gansalves family. And that's something that has been present since the early stages of not only this investigation, but all the way through the arrest of Brian Coburger. Coburger pleaded not guilty during his arrangement. His trial was initially scheduled for October, but has since been postponed as he waived his right to a speedy trial, pushing back the court case until at least next year. Actually he didn't plead guilty, just a quick adjustment here, the judge pled guilty for him while Brian Coburger stood in silence. Coburger was arrested at his parents' Pennsylvania home in late December, almost two months after the killings. Prosecutors arrested him after finding his DNA on the button of a knife sheath which was discovered under the body of Maddie Mogan. His team has claimed that the DNA was planted by law enforcement and has claimed illegal

56:09filings that is alibi is that he was driving around at the time of the killings. If convicted, he could face the death penalty. And you know when you're relying on saying that evidence was planted and that you were out driving around by yourself, that's your alibi? If you're going to be in big trouble when that jury takes a look at all the evidence and they take a look at you as the suspect, we'll see how far that I was out driving around by myself and the evidence was planted nonsense goes because I'm guessing that a jury is going to buy that nonsense even less than I am.
