More bad injury news for 49ers ahead of SF/LA in Australia; John Shea on the SF Giants ownership group

All right, the bad news is that Kyle Shanahan announced the following yesterday in regards to second year defensive tackle and former second round pick, Alfred Collins. This news is not good. All I have to talk about is what happened yesterday with injuries with all the guys that are limited. The worst one was Alfred Collins. Alfred Torres Patelotin yesterday. So that was a big loss. You know, the last two deliming pretty much for the year after cuts before the first game, which has been a huge challenge. You know, herding for Alfred. Happened yesterday during a

3:09period right before we started going against each other and I was real real unfortunate for him. Yeah, he'll be off for the year. All right, so for a thin defensive line for mostly a young defensive line, except for OSA and on the edges as well, the the other person he mentioned, Sam Okawano, who looks like he's going to miss as well. And they need a lot of guys to step up. And I told you this yesterday, everybody talks about the Rams. Now they're going to throw it all over the place. And they got Puka and Devonte Adams and all this stuff. If you weren't paying attention at the end of last year, they ran a ton of three tight end sets. They've got two really good running backs. They're just going to run it right at the 49ers. And that was the plan anyway. And now without big Alfred Collins in there, say what you want about his progression, his injuries. He was going to fill a hole for a while. And the 49ers are in really, really tough shape. As far as their defensive line is concerned, here's Nick Bosa, who's had to come back from some injuries. He talked to Alfred Collins. And this is what he told him. Yeah, it was a weird thing. I didn't really know what happened to him, but terrible, really unfortunate for him and Sam,

4:13campaigns and those two guys get those unlucky breaks, which stinks. But we've used in meetings this morning. So we talked to him a little bit, but I texted him last night and just kind of let him know that there's really nothing anybody could say to you in that moment. Or throughout the entire process, honestly, like you could have guys tell you, keep your head up as much as you want, but they're not going to be there when you go under and get your surgery done or the nine months to a year where you're grinding away from the team by yourself to get back. So it's all great to have the support, but he has to do it for himself. He just has to know that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. And I told him I've been through it a few times. So he just needs to take it one day at a time.

5:16Good stuff from Nick Bosa. I wonder how he would be as a speaker in front of the team because he does that and you see stuff like that. It's not yelling, screaming, emotional, anything like that. But that's what's happening with Alfred Collins. And first and foremost, you feel for the kids. Second of all, you feel for the team because they were thin. Along the defensive line, we'll talk to Larry Krueger about it a little bit before we go to Giants baseball about 1145. But there's no getting around it. This is a terrible injury. It was already a thin area. John Lynch, I'll play a little John Lynch for you yesterday. He addressed it and how the 49ers may address it. So we'll do that in just a few minutes. But the big news of the day, Alfred Collins out for a unit that's already thin up front. And I had expected the Rams to ram it right now in the 49ers throat. And now they're even going to do it more so. Speaking of the Rams, here's Sean Vail. At least there is some good news. We got the announcement of Alfred Collins injury. Here's the announcement that Aaron Donald isn't traveling to Australia. Have you guys made a decision on a VR and we'll play? And yep, he won't play in this game. So he's doing a great job. You know, I think he'll be ready to go sooner rather than later. But we're making a decision that we think is best for him and for

And I think what's cool is is you have such confidence in the group that we do have with Kobe with this with Kuna Ford with Kyler Davis, you know, Kai Hamilton has done a really good job. And so, you know, he's going to be a big part. You know, Aaron will be, you know, will add value when he's ready to go. But, you know, being two years off retirement, he's attacked this the right way. There is Sean McBae. The embarrassment of riches that they have and he called he called it kind of an addition. It's kind of like frosting on the cake. Like that's crazy to say about Aaron Donald, but they have a lot of good defensive linemen. I mentioned Puna Ford used to be in Seattle. Who's really, really good was with the chargers for a minute. Fisk is a guy who was a second round pick. He's really, really good. Miles Garrett can play inside outside. Like they've got plenty of guys who mentioned young. They're defensive line. And this is the difference right now to me between Seattle, the Rams and the 49ers. The Seahawks have a bunch of guys at high quality that they can rotate in and out along their defensive line inside and out. The Rams have a bunch of guys as you just heard Sean McBae even without Aaron Donald. They should be fine for a minute. If whatever

7:24how long it takes a 35 year old like Aaron Donald can get ready for things, then I just don't have that luxury. And that's why they're not on that level. It has nothing to do with skill position players. Some youth on defense I'm concerned about. But to me, it's now the real concern is defensive line inside and out. And I was thinking to myself and John Lynch is going to address this, like I said, in just a few minutes. But that basically what happens is, and I don't care what sport you're and you have to earn the trade deadline. If that makes sense, whether it's basketball, baseball, football, you have to play to a certain level. And then you're it's up to your management to say, okay, we just need a guy to get us over the top. Well, who would be that guy? Because I thought it was going to be an edge russier. And there's a lot of them out there now. They probably need a defensive tackle and not just some guy from practice squad. No offense to Kevin Gibbons or the little baby Hulk or whatever we're going to call anybody. And everybody can be positive and spin it how they want. But the loss of Sam Okwano, the loss of Alfred Collins, the fact that you have a bunch of young guys, it's an if if if the Holden's got to come through CJ West has got to be really good. Not for just a handful of plays, which a lot of guys can do, but for a lot of plays, not just

8:29a handful of plays. So it's going to be tough for the 49ers, especially with this first game. And knowing that that was the Rams game plan anyway. And finally, number three, number three, the Giants are officially eliminated from the playoffs. That is not news, although it was all over social media. But Bryce Eldridge is still good. And at this point of the season, that's what you're looking for. Here he is with an op otaco swing. And there's a high drive into deep left field. Way back goes Torres at the warning track at the wall. Hurry up. Left field toward left setter and well back into the majors. That's an impressive opposite field home run by Bryce Eldridge to give the Giants a one nothing lead. That's an op otaco. That is the great John Miller, of course. And that's what you're looking for. We've talked about this a lot, you and I, where just just give me something. Okay, Rafael Devers is looking great. Great. But at young players, give me the young players. Bryce Eldridge right now, he's for real. He looks for real. And all of a sudden you start thinking

9:33yourself, okay, and I said this couple of weeks ago, like you can envision the offense being good. You're going to vision Bryce Eldridge with Rafael Devers with the healthy Casey Schmidt. Get on Willie Adonis about his defense, all you want. But he's an upper level offensive shortstop. Now he's got to get with Ron Washington and be better defensively. But I just mentioned four guys. And there's a couple of more coming. So all of a sudden you can see five or six bats in that lineup, where you went, okay, now there's a lot of work to do when it comes to pitching. A lot of work to do and we'll get into it in award winning diamond notes. You know, Blaytid well goes to the mountain night. Can he be something certainly land in roop over his last three starts as a one 13 year A. I realize that's an incredibly small sample size. But it okay, that's an arm. I don't know if he's a two or a five. He's probably a five. But okay, you got your one. You got your five now filling in between. They've talked to maybe a Japanese pitcher that they've talked to. There's a couple of guys on the on the market. Go out there and spend. Although John, John Chase is going to join us at 1050. Don't miss that conversation. They've got to get it to in the rotation and they've got to get some bullpen help. And they probably need an innings and eat or kind of an arm. They need at least two starting rotation arms, I think. And they need to resurrect the bullpen to a certain extent. So what is that going to cost? And will they pay that? It's a really good piece. I'm going to talk to John at it or about it at 1050. 13:40have to now. Alfred Collins injury and concerns about the defense now. So you got Nick Boease, you got OSA. And then you got a bunch of question marks. Keon White, CJ West, Grayson, Alton, Romello, Hight, James Thompson, somebody name, Khalid, Karim. That'd be sweet if it was basketball, but it doesn't seem like it is. So bottom line to the whole thing is and then practice squad guys we've seen Kevin Gibbons for years. I wouldn't be surprised if he was moved up Sebastian Valdez has been a great preseason player. So it's not exactly what the Rams are toting around. It's not exactly what the Seahawks are toting around. And we know and you know that when the 49ers have been at their best, we can talk about skill position players and that's lovely and that's nice. And that gets the headlines. But when the 49ers won at a really head level, it was because their defense was that great and especially their defensive line got pressure on quarterbacks and that is going to be a major, major question mark. And when everybody says, well, OSA is going to get a bunch of pressure from the inside. That's fine. And I really like that pickup from the Cowboys and I think it was great value. His career high in sacks is 4.5. Nick Boease hasn't had a double digit sacks season

14:41since 2023. I realized he was out last year, but that counts to me because the best ability is availability. So he hasn't been and he's got major injuries. And until I see Nick Boease, just be Nick Boease. I've got question marks about it. People are written about it, talked about it. Nick has been out for the majority training camp. Maybe Nick and just Nick is that good. And he might be. He's a former defensive player of the year. He's been awesome as a 49er, but kind of a little bit like his brother, who's out of league at what 31, Nick is 28. I get nervous. And that's just I think that's how most 49ers fans are. And I did tell you that eight, we're going to minimize the injury talk on this show. It is what it is. We can talk about it till we're in the face and there's nothing we can do about it. So I just thought, you know what, let's just not talk about it until we have to. Well, today we have to unfortunately because I think Alfred Collins is great. No, but he's a former second round pick that has shown flashes. Remember the fumble that he knocked out near the goal line? I mean, he's shown flashes. He's a big body. He's a warm body. They needed him and did not have him in there. Just invites other teams to not even alter their game plan because

15:43they're told to this yesterday. I know some friends with the Rams and I was talking to him and they go, Hey, man, and this is before that injury. He said, Look, everybody can talk about Sean McVey and Matthew Stafford and Pukinakoo and Devonte Adams in the way that they're going to throw the ball. They're going to run it. They're going to 13 personnel, three tight ends like they did a lot of last year when they were successful. And they're going to run the ball. And now they see a dude as big as Alfred Collins out and they're going to run the ball even more. So here is John Lynch. He was asked yesterday about Alfred Collins and what they would do about his absence. Here's John. I think it does, but you know, lots of times I think you got to be careful. We look at things in two and three year windows and that sometimes gives the fans. I believe like a false sense of, man, we've got all this room. A lot of that is constructed because next year is going to be a very tight cap. So, you know, you can roll that over if you don't spend it this year. And we're going to have to have a lot of that money to be able to retain our own players. But we have some flexibility

16:44in there. We've always shown that we will be aggressive. You know, I spoke, I think last week, about, you know, as a team, I think it's coming on the entire team to go out and perform well. And then you're much more apt to do something like that because it makes sense. Let's go for it. So, I believe strongly our team will put us in position and then we'll scour the league to look for opportunities to make us a better football team. And if we find that fit, we've never hesitated in the past. And I think this year will be no different. All right. So, what John is essentially saying there? And this is what every team does. They see what they have. And maybe I'm wrong. Maybe Grayson Houghton is great. The Rookie at Oklahoma. Maybe CJ West takes a big step forward. Maybe James Thompson, the free agent is that big of a fine, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. Maybe Osa doubles his sack total from four and a half to nine. Even though I'm more concerned really about the run defense than getting to the quarterback. And I am concerned about getting to the quarterback. But what concerns me just overall is if you can't

17:44get to the quarterback, it hurts your past defense. And they've got issues in the secondary already. I love the second level with Fred and Dre and whomever else, Dugger is a really nice pickup. I think they're going to be fine at the second level. But can they stop the run, especially now without Collins? Can they get to the quarterback? And those questions right now, I mean, I'm not going to say no because we haven't played a game yet. So I'm not going to panic over that. But yeah, I'm really concerned about it. So we'll talk to Larry Krueger at about 1115. So we'll talk to Krueger about an hour and we shall discuss. But right now, yeah, I'm more than concerned about that. And I was more than concerned about that when they had Alfred Collins. So there's there's that part of it. And then the thing that starts to get a little bit scary about this whole thing is all the injuries now with their recent picks. I'm not going to call Ricky Pierce all a bust, but it's, you know, injury prone, whatever the case may be. But that's their first pick in 24. Their first pick in 25 is Michele Williams. Their second pick in 25 is Alfred Collins. Their third pick is Nick Martin.

18:46Nick Martin's out. Now he's not out for the season, but still he's out. So 24, you got Perseult out, you got Green banged up, you got Grendo out. 25, I just told you about 23 is just bad other than Jair Brown. You're talking about Moody and Camletoo and and Biel and Dora Luder Jr who was picked up by the Raiders. So essentially your last three drafts, Jair Brown, Upton Stout, Mustafa, Ronaldo Green, and then even in 2022, the first pick Drake Jackson, I don't think he was very good, but he couldn't say healthy either. So out of that whole whole thing, you got Brock Perty in 22. But after that, the only contributions you're getting right now, guys who were not injured or ineffective are Jair Brown, Upton Stout, Mustafa and Green. And so you've got to you've got to realize so much on 30 plus year old guys in the offensive side and then you got to cross your fingers on the defensive side because nobody can stay healthy over there. And my question is, is that a recipe for success? Like I want to be optimistic. They went 12 and five last year. I have a ton of respect. And I know that if you just because we were talking yesterday, I think

19:49we were talking Mike Sando from the athletic. And I was saying to Mike, I think that 12 and five is a miracle last year. The way things are starting out, I'm getting a little nervous about this year. And like I said, I don't want to over talk the injuries, but it's getting to the point where you start thinking we did this a couple of years ago with the Brennan Aukse situation before he was signed when you start the talk of the substation, Bryce Huffertires and Brennan Aukse Drummond, Kyle's car crash and Ricky Peersaws out and Chad York has an issue and who the hell's days on love and Ocoa Wano's hurt now and Collins is hurt now and you start thinking yourself as a fan. Are we cursed somehow? Is this not what did someone sell their soul to the devil to get to those two super balls that we lost and now we're I don't know, it's just in your mind you start playing with things that aren't logical, you know, like it's been proven a time and time again, there is nothing as electrical substation, but every time there's an injury and they're nowhere near it, but my point is is that it's like it's going on here, you know, extra terrestrial, like just

20:50you start thinking weird things in your mind that don't make any sense whatsoever, like what could this be? Like this morning, I saw tons and tons of stuff that we're talking about, you know, the training staff and this and that. This is a high level NFL training staff. Did the training staff have something to do with a patellite air for for Alfred Collins? That's his bad luck. But in your head, you're thinking, well, other teams don't have luck like this. Like at one point, I was on a national radio show a couple of days ago and at one point, we were talking about how the Niners had like 20 players injured in an camp during the process and like there wasn't any other team that had more than like eight in this process and it's frustrating as a fan because you're thinking, if we could just stay healthy, what could we be? And they can still do it. Don't get me wrong. Alfred Collins is, I don't think going to change the trajectory of the season. Like Vegas didn't just say, oh Alfred Collins is out. Your odds went from and I'm just taking this off top of my head because as a non-Jenerate, I don't know the exact odds of the 49ers right now,

21:50not to say that you are the general. If you do know the odds off the top of your head, but you might want to seek help. But they didn't change because Alfred Collins went down. It's just as a fan, you're like, okay, that was already a weak spot. We couldn't afford that. And then you start thinking about all the things that have happened. Then you start thinking about drafts, where it's like, can anybody stay healthy on this team? Anybody whatsoever? So anyway, we'll do the poll question and unfortunately it has to do with this kind of a thing and it's going to be a really simple one today. We're not going to make an overly complicated one like I did yesterday. Day John Loveber James to be a 49er. Right before the trip Sam Okwano breaks his foot and now Alfred Collins tears his petella attended nowhere near by the way the electrical substation. So injury cursed or cursed in general. Yay, nay or nay, but I'm calling my voodoo doctor. Is that the third one? Yeah, I was trying to put in a voodoo woman named Phyllis, but I ran out of space. So you get voodoo doctor. All right, voodoo doctor is good enough because after a while, you know, you start saying bad luck,

27:11bad luck, bad luck, bad luck. And everyone's like, uh, anything else? You got anything smarter than that? And I really don't because for those who say it's the, the medical group, I just in the NFL, they're high level medical group. It guys and injuries just happened. But the general way I think about it and there is no logic or analytics to this. But this is usually how it works. Like you have an injury year and then you kind of have a year where it might be average. The NFL is very different than the other sports. I mean, you have Tommy John surge. You have injuries and baseball no doubt. You have injuries and basketball. You've injuries and hockey. There's no question. But in football, it's not your that you're going to have an injury. It's to who? How long at what point of the season will that person come back? You know, you're going to have injuries. Many guys miss games and the NBA, it's different guys miss games because there's 82 games. They want to, you know, load management, all that kind of stuff. Everybody's playing if they can play in the NFL. You know, there's no other sport like hockey is kind of close. You have a lot of injuries there, but nothing's like the NFL. So you just have to brace every single week for there to be an injury.

28:15But it's not just man this feels, you know, because at first I thought to myself, self, other teams have injuries too. And then you start looking at the 90s and you're like, not like this. You know, they know they just like if you're going to have an injury, not that you'd want an injury anywhere, but you're you're going to bed at night as a 49ers fan. This is how I envision it. Maybe I'm 100% wrong, but this is how I envision it where you're going. Lord, please don't let the defensive line. And I really, Lord, I don't really want the offensive line to get hit. And I certainly don't want McCaffer to get hurt. Uh, party wouldn't be great, but we have Mac Jones. Like, you know, you're thinking, please, just the defensive line is really thin. Months and months of work and it is a great piece. But that's what you expect. That was a great John Shay. And he joins us now courtesy of the, and we guess like, how are you? Hey, great John. Hey, thanks for the plug, man. Man, I loved it. I was like, you know, you think you know, and then you don't know. And I mean, I had a general idea. But then like you said, there's there's so many layers to this whole thing. I don't know if you can explain the piece in unwen fell swoop. But maybe what did you learn about ownership that maybe you didn't know before? Well, no, thanks. I mean, we went in to kind of tackle the evolution of the Giants ownership group, which is 34 years in the making from the gathering that got together to keep the team in San Francisco after the league president Phil Whited and all

37:48the national league owners, including the O'Malley's in LA said, no, we ain't allowing this team to move to Florida for the 93 season. So this new group of San Francisco based investors came in. And next thing, you know, very bond showed up and Dusty is the manager and they they go from a horrible team bound for Florida to a team that 103 1.6 million to 2.6 million in attendance overnight. And from that group of 18 initial investors, 10 still remain. In other words, either the original folks or the air slash families of those folks. So 10 still remain, but that 18 member partnership is now 36 and includes private equity. It includes Buster Posey. It includes another fellow Richard Chavitch, who I did a Q&A with. That's now online. He's he's one of the newer investors, though he's not

38:51private equity as much as just kind of family money. So back then to be short here and explain, the investors invested to save the team. And now investors are investing not to save the team because the team was saved many decades ago, but to make money. That's what private equity is about. They have no power in the structure of ownership, but they do supply capital to allow them to upgrade the ballpark or whatever. And it's it's we did kind of a family tree as well with within the story that kind of explained who was there originally, who remains and who is no and the percentage of the shares. And it was wonderful project to be involved with at the standard because I did interview quite a few of the investors, which you don't normally see. And whether it's the Suckelaw family or the Nibb family or the buyer family or David Jenkins and also

39:54Buster Posey, who kind of explained how this board of directors works and his part in it, the business side, the baseball side and how many times a year they need and what they talk about. And the big deal there for him is he says he spends 99% of his time as president of baseball operation and 1% on the board because that's kind of where his focus is, especially during the season and and kind of how perspective players are brought up and addressed and suggested to the board and whose chairman is Greg Johnson. So we go through the history of the board, the history of the frontman, the history of the ownership overall to the point now where okay, here's a season and it's not good and there have been issues including with ownership where the fans have kind of pushback and complained and you know what's next. So we try to address everything and tackle it all.

40:57It's great. It's just a great piece and I encourage all Giants fans to read it. And you kind of started to take us down the road that I think most fans are interested in where you point out at the top. Obviously it's official now. The Giants will miss the playoffs on the 9th time in 10 years and everybody wants to blame Buster or Greg Johnson or whatever and you talk about this board. So what is the protocol in terms of and money doesn't buy everything but what's the protocol. So Buster wants to get you know a free age at this offseason or whatever the case may be and you talk about this in the piece. He's got a number that's set. So does he have to address the board? How exactly does it work in terms of how Buster has to get things done when you have this many people involved in the decision making? Yeah as Buster shared obviously he and Zach Nageem the GM and the rest of the baseball operations department including the analytics folks will get together to the vice plan or suggested plan or proposal and for the big money guys as opposed to the

41:59back end of the rotation and you see daily transactions people waived people brought up from AAA people put on the injured list the board isn't involved with that at all. I mean that's Buster and company doing all that stuff. I mean you could call it Mnushi you know these are people's lives but there are daily transactions that you see with the pitching staff and the line up and everything else because there are injuries and there are collabs and there are waivers and everything like that but for the big decisions they go through Greg Johnson Buster and Zach present a plan they suggested and there's seven people on the board and five of those people by the way stem from the initial ownership and so there only two including Buster who were not in that first ownership group back in 92 93 so there there is you know some and you know this ownership group by the way is like top five and longest tenured in the majors you know you have

43:04the Steinbredders and the Reimstorfs and you know Detroit Colorado and the giants are right up there in terms of the longest ten years so people have been around people know the history and legacy of the team but they you know do have limits restrictions I mean they're not going to have a payroll like the Dodgers nobody does and nor the deferred money because it's never been offered that way I mean if Otani came here he would have had the exact same salary and structure with his contract but but obviously he took the Dodgers and many other Japanese players followed so we're at a point now where okay this is one of the worst seasons in San Francisco history now what but the minor league system is the best it has been since a young Buster and Madison Bum Gardner showed up with short hair playing for single A and and wondering what was next in their lives and and so all these years

44:11later suddenly the farm system is fourth or fifth best in in in the industry so what do you do you go to the board and say I want big name for agents like like Devers and Adams well no you're probably not going to see that but you might see some more mid-level spending I mean if you look at the free agent market it is not extremely deep and I'm talking you know beyond the big names like Tara Scubal who actually was raised and haybird and then then moved to Arizona with this family of the kid but that would be a nice story but I mean there are some some names that could help but you got to ask the question and I'm sure they're having these conversations you kind of punt on next season and develop or do you try to win next season and then you kind of think well is next season even going to happen with the collective bargaining agreement and the expected lockout

45:12on December 1st and the labor strife to come will there be a spring training will this season start on time probably not I don't know I can't say for sure but if there's if there's any hesitation it's like hey man the major leagues won't be happening but the minor leagues will so let's not call up all these young dudes and put them on the 40 man because like the parks harbors of the world because now you're you're going to kind of burn their their their time and they won't be able to develop on the 40 man roster next summer keep them in the minors and let them keep playing triple A or whatever so there are a lot of conversations behind the scenes but to to answer your question yeah the big money stuff the big name stuff that goes through Greg Johnson and the board that's interesting John shea is joining us at john shea hey we'll get to some giant stuff in just a second but it's got a really fascinating article right now who owns the San Francisco giants the year answer is more complicated than you think I think if you're a giant fan you really got to read it to understand the one thing the one thing and then we'll get off of this and we'll get

46:12into some some actual giants talk but the private equity firms and you know like you said they're not they don't want to be involved in the baseball thing and they're not making decisions it's financial for them so how has because all the all the ownership groups are doing this how has private equity changed ownership because they're they're bottom line people they don't like winning losing now what where's my money I want my money out I want to make money how do how do the how does private equity change things as far as ownership is concerned right because in recent years six street arctose and thriving turnover they all bought into the giants and it's like they buy in this is private equity so it's nothing they don't care about the team they don't care about the the future they don't care about anything except making money and providing capital to the teams that they imagine will invest well to to to make the organization more profitable in a long run so it's funny because those three private equity firms best in multiple teams like arctose has invested in six different clubs they have money in both

47:18the giants and Dodgers so imagine Walter O'Malley investing in the giants or forestonum buying into the Dodgers I mean that just was never a thing until now in 2018 MLB came up with a new rule and the other leagues followed that hey you private equity could be part of multiple franchises it just can't be more than 15% within with any firm and can't be more than 30% with combined firms and also they have zero say on anything that has to do with the team including on the field and they can't be on the board of directors it's just passive money it's just money here you go we're part of the team six street bought 10% of the club so that's a lot of money when you think this club has worked four billion dollars so what what they do they provide capital and as Larry Berra explained you know this this ballpark it while you know I still think it's new but it's what 26 27 years old and there are improvements needed and what this private equity does is

48:25provide capital so that could happen and it also helps across the way with with the mission rock complex you know so that they're also involved in in the real estate side of the of the team but but it's like that's kind of typical with a lot of these clubs now look at the NBA the NFL or Major League Baseball you see a lot of private equity firms buying in so it's not uncommon but it's just another layer like you said of this whole story and how this ownership evolved yeah I think it's it's amazingly because like you said I mean it makes a heck of a lot of sense you're gonna invest in teams everybody sees how how much teams are going up we're seeing the Padres get sold and you know and obviously the Lakers and the NBA we're seeing teams get sold and it's always up up up up up so all of a sudden you're like oh okay and you know the Angels just get sold they made a ton of money so all of a sudden you know I imagine that we're gonna see more private equity firms and that's a great piece I'd really enjoyed it as far as on the field

49:28is concerned what obviously Giants fans are looking for right now it's just kind of a array of sunshine and really Bryce Eldridge has been doing it all season long but all of a sudden last night he hits the opposite field home run I mean he really looks legit my question is would they ever approach him like a lot of these teams speaking of you know money would they ever approach him and try to get something done and buy out his arbears well it's probably the last thing on their mind right now with the CB. I mean up but in a normal year of course I mean that's you know I don't I don't want to make this sound goofy or or tainted or anything but in a lot of ways the the giants are becoming like the Billy Dean A's in other words a very good farm system a lot of young players and yeah extend them through the arbears but never arbitration through the arbears but never for the agency that that's what Billy Dean always did and he talked about oh yeah we could give chat men

50:28are often you know extensions through that never happened that was never gonna happen and now with the new A's under Fisher who who play and God knows where the only reason they're paying top dollar for guys is to get to a certain amount with payroll so they could get revenue sharing that's all it's about it's not about getting the team any better because the teams no better they just have they haven't figured out pitching blah blah blah but with with the giants it just seems like for the first time and ever you know Buster Paid Posey made all these moves at the last two trade deadlines to bring in a bunch of prospects they had the number four pit they're doing great internationally with with the top signy in consecutive years Joshua Gonzales and Luis Hernandez both middle infielders with San Jose opening the playoffs this week so the farm system is so much better so the future is more upbeat it's more encouraging and so some serious conversations need

51:29to be had on you know what do we do with the CBA what do we do with next year and do we look to 28 rather than 27 so it's pretty fascinating because they still have you know they have they have devers they have a domus they have Lee they have Chapman still under contract through all those years but they have a lot of youth coming up I mean I you know both Davidson hopefully will be the left fielder next year you know that that's something and whether they go with Jonah Cox and Drew Gilbert is a center field platoon that's looked pretty good recently Casey Schmidt will be healthy will he be the second base and you stick with John who Lee and right field I don't think he's really tradable I don't think the teams are lining up for a bad like him but with the free agency the way it is and the industry being shut down December 1st given you only a couple of weeks a few yeah from from the five days after the final world series game till December 1st

52:32is the only time you can sign free agents until it's all resolved who knows next next spring or whenever so it's like okay what what do you do do you do you actually think about signing these guys you know maybe they get a guy like Kevin Gossman who's who's mid 30s maybe not a great year this year but he's one of Logan Webb's allies he really looked up to him and Gossman was here and you know he would be a good maybe role model for some of these young guys I mean the Casey Mise Michael King they're all out there for Eddie Pearl to think clay homes maybe but mostly they need not to worry about the everyday lineup as much as the rotation and especially that both and I think David Bednar the older brother the Giants prospect the Yankee Closer is a free agent the blessiest the guy the guy in that land the braves have a left-hander who's who's a free agent Adrian more home and and you know he could be a good close so and I just think that they need a whole bunch of warm

54:38to reflect itself right now it's going to take a few years to you know grow up a bunch more giants fans but the reality is if you're a giant fan you don't want to hear it like in John Che's right you know but because he's plugged into all this kind of stuff you don't want to hear like really we're going to take 2027 off we're going to wait for all these guys I've heard this but when you see a Bryce Eldridge to me and he brings up a good point probably not next year but look I think he's proven we've seen all these guys get signed and they've bought out the arb years and that's what teams do now other than say the Dodgers and teams like that but a lot of teams cooperate like the giants they buy out the years of these guys and Bryce Eldridge has proved it to me I mean a lot more than a lot of these guys who didn't even have minor league or major league experience that they're giving money to that's happened a bunch this year I mean I think he's legit he's really playing well and to think he endeavors the way Devers is hitting right now and I know you don't like the dominance of defense but he's one of the top offensive short stops get all those things together and you can see an offense it's just defensively and pitching wise especially just basic baseball too many times you get frustrated over that anyway great stuff from John
