On March 20th, the Cleveland Browns have proposed a big change to NFL rules, asking to let teams
trade future first round draft picks up to five years, in advance, instead of the current
limit of three years.
This idea comes ahead of the league's annual meetings in Arizona next week, where only
two rule-changed proposals were submitted.
If it passes, it needs approval from at least 24 of the 32 teams to take effect.
The move aims to give clubs more flexibility in building rosters through trades.
The Browns, who once gave up three straight first round picks for a quarterback, stands
to benefit, and the Los Angeles Rams' president has voiced.
Support.
Meanwhile, Seattle Seahawks' General Manager John Schneider expressed caution, calling
the idea a bit too far out and risky for teams.
We'll hear the final word soon from the meetings, opening up even more strategic
wheeling and dealing across the league.
