NHL Adjusts Ottawa Senators' Penalty, Draft Pick & Fine

The National Hockey League just modified the penalty on the Ottawa Senators for their

part in the messy Evgenii.inoff trade back in July 20th, 21.

Originally, the team had to give up a first round draft pick in either the 2024, 2025,

or 2026 draft.

Now after review, they'll pick 32nd overall in the 2026 draft.

The last spot in the first round, and they can't trade that, pick.

They also have to pay a $1 million Canadian fine.

The Senators asked the league to reconsider because of a change in ownership and better

oversight.

League officials agreed it made sense to adjust the punishment.

This stems from a trade scheme where the Senators send data off to Vegas, then Vegas

try to flip him to Anaheim in a way that broke rules, leading to the whole deal getting

avoided.

Fans and teens have mixed feelings, but it shows the league cracking down on circumvention

tactics.

To make room, Ottawa's normal first round spot will shift to 32nd, no matter their standings

or lottery luck.

Other teens behind them move up one spot.

In the draft lottery, if the Senators miss playoffs, they keep their odds but can't

actually win.

If their number hits, it's a redraw, boosting.

Chances for everyone else.
